Yes | 2024-03-28 11:46 | active | 365 | 0 | 1508249993367036 | đ„đ„ Click to Read đđ»đđ» | I stormed into his bar and told this arrogant prick to keep his children away from mine.
My daughter Maria means more to me than anything in this world. I knew he was the leader of a notorious motorcycle gang before I walked in, but I didn't care.
I realized too late that entering his bar was a huge mistake. He's been everywhere since then.
ââââââââ

ANNA
Itâs a warm, sunny day. I tip my head back to feel the rays on my face. I love my little gardenâ itâs a sun trap. âMommy,â whispers Malia in my ear.
I smile but keep my eyes closed. âYes, sweetie?â
âWhen I was at nursery today, Ziggy asked me to peck him.â My eyes shoot open and fall on the innocent face of my five-year-old daughter. âHe wants me to be his . . . â She taps her pink, heart-shaped lips that are the exact replica of my own. âOld lady. What does that mean?â
âYou are far too young to be pecking anyone, little miss,â I say, and she giggles. âI hope you told him that.â She shrugs her shoulders and the pink strap of her dungarees slips down. âSweetie, I really wish youâd make some new friends. You and Ziggy spend an awful lot of time together and itâs important that you make other friends.â
âBut I only like Ziggy and he only likes me,â she says innocently.
I hear the front door open and close. âI brought cakes for little miss trouble and beverage for us to get started,â yells Eva from inside the house.
âYou better have your hip in that shower,â she adds. I check my watch.
Christ, is it that time already? I push myself to stand and brush the grhip from my hip as I sweep Malia into my arms and take her inside.
âSorry, I lost track of time,â I explain. âIâm going right now. You look amazing, by the way.â
I shower quickly and dress in a thigh-length summer dress. Itâs flowy from the waist down and looks perfect with my heeled boots. I apply minimal make-up and get downstairs just as Evaâs mom arrives. âThanks for watching Malia, Esther. Sheâs been excited since she came home from nursery today,â I say with a smile. As if to prove my point, Malia races into the hallway and throws herself into Estherâs arms.
âItâs not a problem. You know I love to spend time with her. Now, come and tell me what things you and Ziggy have been up to this week,â says Esther fondly as she carries Malia into the living room.
As it happens, most of the bars along Queenâs Road are busy, and by the time we stumble into The Copper Trap, weâre both feeling the beverage buzz.
âThatâs nonsense. His dad is a biker. He wears the leather jacket with the thingy on the back,â I say.
âThe club badge?â asks Eva.
âWhatever it is,â I dismiss. âOne of the other moms at school told me itâs a gang. Heâs basically in a biker gang and his kid is out of control.â
âYou know you shouldnât believe everything you hear. Do you think the same mom said nice things about you when she found out who Maliaâs dad really was?â she asks, raising a perfectly plucked brow at me. I scowl, but she continues regardless. âYou know more than anyone not to listen to gossip because itâs usually wrong.â
I scoff. âThe gossip doesnât do Reggie justice. Heâs way worse than any story. Besides, Iâm pretty sure none of the parents at Maliaâs school know
about Reggie being her dad.â
Eva smirks. âYeah right. Sounds like they love to gossip, if you ask me.â She sighs. âIf youâre really worried, then speak to the teacher. Maybe she can try and encourage Malia to play with different kids, but I really think sheâll be heartbroken without Ziggy. Sheâs really taken with him.â I roll my eyes. Eva is a hopeless romantic.
âIf we have to move again, theyâll be two very sad kids. They shouldnât get so attached. Donât you think itâs weird to be this attached at their age?
Maybe I should go straight to his dad and tell him what his kidâs been saying?â I suggest. âAsk him to speak to Ziggy about making new friends?â
Eva shakes her head. âOh, I donât think thatâs a good idea.â But my mind is made up and the spirits makes me slightly braver than Iâd normally feel. I drain my drink and stand. Eva looks panicked. âYou mean now?â she whisper-hisses and I nod.
âHis gang drinks at The Windsor.â
âPlease stop calling it a gang. Itâs not how they like to be seen. Itâs a club, and if you call it a gang, he might get mad,â says Eva with a hint of hysteria in her voice.
We walk to The Windsor pub and stand outside. It doesnât look anything special, just like a regular bar. Nobody ever goes in there unless they are part of the bike gang. Itâs a fact everyone just seems to know without anyone having to say it.
A few men are standing around outside chatting and smoking cigarettes.
âChrist, letâs hurry up and get out of here.â I take her arm and pull her through the bar. Iâve never seen so many men wearing the same leather jacket before. It makes it harder to spot the man I want, but when I do, he takes my breath away. Itâs not the first time thatâs happened. When I first saw him at the school gates, I thought my panties would melt off and jump in his pocket. They were desperate to come off. He doesnât come to the school often, so I donât get to appreciate his hotness on a daily basis.
He throws his head back and a deep, rumbling laugh escapes his gorgeous mouth. His tall, six-foot something frame is well-hidden with him sitting on a barstool, but Iâve got that silhouette burned into my brain. His
broad shoulders and bulging arms are covered in tattoos and thereâs something about his light blue eyes that gives him a permanently smouldering look. Eva nudges me forward and I realize Iâm standing still, just staring at him.
âYou know heâs staring right back at you wondering what youâre gawking at, right?â she whispers into my ear. I swallow the dry lump in my throat and move closer to him. The guys heâs with also turn to stare at us, and Iâm pretty sure the conversation in this place just dropped down to almost whispering.
âHi,â I croak, and he stares at me blankly. I didnât expect him to remember me. Heâs probably never paid any attention to us mere mortals who lust after him at the playground. In fact, I think in the whole three months Maliaâs been going to that nursery, Iâve seen him three times max.
âIâm Maliaâs mom.â
âPres, she ainât about to drop a kid on you, is she?â asks one of the men, laughing.
âShut up, Tiny,â mutters Ziggyâs dad. âLady, what do you want?â
My mouth opens and closes a few times. What did I want again?
âMalia,â Eva whispers into my ear to give me the reminder I was silently begging for.
âMalia,â I blurt out. He begins to look annoyed. âShe plays with Ziggy.â
A look of realization phipes over his face and he stands up. I hear Eva gasp at his sheer size.
âWhat did he do?â he asks.
âNothing,â I say, shaking my head back and forth. âI think they should have other friends,â I blurt out. Iâm getting this all wrong, and he studies me silently for a few seconds. Heâs understandably confused by my ramblings.
âCome,â he says and sighs. He takes me by the hand, and I stare down in awe at how his giant paw covers mine completely. He pulls me through the bar to a quiet table away from the crowd of bikers. I look back at Eva.
One of the other men is talking to her as she looks over at me helplessly.
Ziggyâs dad practically shoves me to sit down at the table and then lowers himself opposite me. âStart talking.â
âZiggy and Malia always play together. Today, he asked her to peck him,â I blurt out. âHe wants her to be his old lady?â I say it as a question
because Iâm not quite sure what that part means but Iâm guessing marriage.
He laughsâ really laughs, throwing his head back again. If it wasnât at my childâs expense, Iâd be mesmerized by the way his throat bobs up and down or the way his tattoos cover up under his chin and are partially hidden by his well-groomed beard.
âOh legend.â He chuckles, but when he sees Iâm not laughing, he coughs to clear his throat and straightens up in his chair. âSo, now you donât want them to play together?â
âNo,â I say firmly. âI think they should make other friends.â
He nods his head slowly. âBecause my kidâs not good enough for yours?â
âI didnât mean . . . itâs just that . . . â Iâm stuttering helplessly.
âOh, I know what you meant. My kidâs not good enough to play with Reggie Millerâs daughter,â he sneers. At the mention of Reggieâs name, I begin to breathe faster, the colour draining from my cheeks. I grip the edge of my chair to stop me from running out of here. âYou thought I didnât know who my kid was hanging out with? Oh, I know. I know everything.
So, while you stand in that playground with your head up your hip, I know all about you and Reggie and the things heâs done.â He leans back and folds his arms over his chest. âNow, you listen to me, lady. Iâm not overjoyed by my kidâs choice in friends either, but for some reason, he worships your daughter, and unlike you, I trust him to make his own decisions. You want to break your kidâs heart, then be my guest. Now, get outta my bar.â
I stand on wobbly legs, hardly believing that heâs speaking to me like this when he doesnât even know me. I turn to walk away but then something takes over me.
I vowed never to be walked all over again, so I find myself turning to face him. âI wanted them to make other friends because I have to move a lot thanks to Reggie. But Iâm sure you knew that already. I thought it wouldnât be very good for your son to be so invested in my daughter because when we have to leave again, heâll be heartbroken. Iâm glad your son doesnât have your poor manners.â
I turn on my heel and march over to Eva. She smiles, looking relaxed, and hands me a drink. âWe have to leave,â I say.
âNo, come and meet Rock.â She smiles. The man who stopped us earlier at the door offers a goofy grin. âAnd Lake,â she adds, pointing to the
man at Rockâs side. âWeâve put some money in the jukebox. Rock loveâs rock music,â she states proudly and then falls into a fit of giggles brought on by the spirits.
âEva, we really need to leave.â
I feel him approaching. Itâs like a sensation washes over me and I have to fight the urge to shudder. I feel the heat of his body against my back, and when he leans closer to my ear, I gasp.
âYouâre a feisty little thing,â he whispers.
âIâm leaving. Iâm just trying to get my friend to say goodbye to these gentlemen and then weâll be off,â I explain.
âNo rush,â he mutters. âStick around. Maybe I was a little harsh back there.â
âSee, he said we can stay.â Eva smiles and holds out her hand for him to shake. âIâm Eva, Annaâs best friend.â
âRiggs,â he answers. I realise this is the first time Iâve heard his name.
He didnât bother to introduce himself back there. Even the moms at the playground refer to him as âZiggyâs dadâ.
âZiggyâs cute,â she compliments, and this seems to ease the annoyance that surrounds Riggsâ eyes. âI only met him a couple of times. Malia adores him.â
âRock, this oneâs Reggie Millerâs woman,â says Riggs. My face instantly goes a deep shade of red with embarrhipment. Eva feels the anxiety radiating from me at the mere mention of my ex.
âIâm not his woman,â I utter.
âOh yeah,â Rock says with a grin. âAnd he knows youâre drinking in these parts, does he?â
âIâm not his woman,â I repeat.
âMaybe we should go,â says Eva, grabbing hold of my hand.
âBetter still, let me call him. Iâm sure heâd love to hear from me,â says Rock, pulling out his cell. My hand dashes towards it, snatching it away from him. Iâm shaking from fear and panic. Rockâs mouth falls open, not quite believing what I just did, which makes two of us.
âHe doesnât know Iâm here,â I mutter. âYou canât tell him that you saw me.â
Rock moves closer and my fear deepens. âIâll tell him whatever I like.
He ainât around here.â
I glance at Riggs, whoâs smirking at the interactions unfolding before him. âDo you let all your gang members talk to women?â I snap.
âItâs not a gang, sweetheart. What your boyfriend has is a gang. What I have is a club,â says Riggs with ease.
âThe only difference I see is this gang wears leather jackets and his gang wears suits,â I say boldly.
âIt was a bad idea to come here,â mutters Eva. âLetâs get out of here.â
RIGGS
I donât know what just came over me. Something about Maliaâs mom riles every cell in my body. Who does she think she is turning up in my bar and lecturing me about my kid? Looking down her nose at us? I shake my head and take a long drag on my smoking.
âDo you peck Reggie with that mouth?â Lake smirks.
âLetâs just go,â says her friend on a sigh. âTheyâd never understand.â
âUnderstand that a mob princess had the nerve to come here? I understand perfectly.â I move towards them, and if Iâm not mistaken, Anna has a heated look in her eyes. âMaybe Iâll rock up to your place, see what youâre like without that beverage running through your blood.â I run my
finger down her arm. Goosebumps break out on her skin and she sucks in a breath. I smirk.
âIâm not telling you where I live,â she mutters.
âI donât need you to. See ya around, sweetheart.â I turn back to the guys, grinning with satisfaction. This woman will regret putting herself on my radar.
I take Ziggyâs backpack from the kitchen counter. âYouâre taking him to school?â asks my mom. I note the shock in her voice.
âYep,â I say, not wanting to get into it.
âYay!â Ziggy grins. âCan we go on the bike?â he asks. I nod and he fist pumps the air.
âNo,â says my mom firmly. âFinn, you know the school will call and question whether the bike is safe. It isnât worth the bother. Just take my car.â She throws the keys and I catch them.
We get into the car and I fasten Ziggy in. âDaddy, why does Granny call you Finn?â
âBecause thatâs my real name,â I say. âAnd because sheâs my mommy, sheâs allowed to use that name.â
âI like Riggs better,â he says.
âYouâre lucky because you get to call me by a name that nobody else can call me,â I say. âDaddy.â This satisfies him and he smiles. âNow letâs get you to school.â
I stand uncomfortably in the playground. I hate the school run because I stand out. All the other adults here are mainly moms and they stare at me cautiously. They pull their kids closer to their sides like they donât quite trust me.
I check my watch again and sigh. Thereâs still five minutes to go. Ziggy suddenly screeches and takes off towards the gates. He crashes into a little blonde and wraps her into a hug. Her little curls bounce from the impact and she giggles. âMalia, my daddyâs real name is Finn,â he announces, taking her hand and pulling her towards me. âHe brought me to school today.â
Malia stops in front of me. She tips her head back and stares right at me.
She has her momâs light green eyes, which reminds me . . . I glance towards the gate as a harhiped-looking Anna bustles in. She has shades covering he
r eyes and I suspect sheâs feeling hungover. âMalia,â she bristles, and the little girl turns towards her. âI told you not to run ahead,â she adds.
The little girl pouts. âBut I saw Ziggy,â she says in a little voice. âAnd look! His daddy brought him to school today. Heâs so big!â I smile down at the little version of Anna.
Anna stands a few feet away and stares at the closed clhiproom door.
She glances at me and lifts her shades slightly to meet my eyes. I like that sheâs showing me no fear. âAre you talking to me?â she asks coolly.
I make a show of looking around at the space around us. The other moms are giving me a wide berth. âLooks that way.â
âMy head is just fine, thank you.â Her tone is cold and impatient.
âI thought we could grab a coffee and discuss last night?â I ask.
âI donât think so,â she mutters.
âYou not so brave now that youâre sober?â I ask.
The doors open, and Ziggyâs teacher smiles warmly at me. Sheâs had a thing for me for the last year, since Ziggy first started in her clhip. âOh, how lovely to see you, Finn.â She smiles. âWould you like to stay and look through some of Ziggyâs work? Heâs been doing so well.â
âI have a coffee date with Anna,â I say, tipping my head in Annaâs direction. The teacher straightens slightly and looks Anna up and down.
âHe doesnât have a coffee date with me,â mutters Anna. Her face flushes red with embarrhipment.
âI do,â I correct. I hand Ziggy his backpack and he runs inside, pulling Malia with him. I turn to Anna and smile. âYou can either walk outta here with me or I can embarrhip you in front of all these judgy bitches.â
âYou wouldnât dare,â she growls.
âOh baby.â I smirk. âPlease donât wave the red rag. You donât know me well enough to challenge me.â
Anna squares her shoulders and glances around at some of the other moms who are pecking their kids goodbye at the door. âFine,â she mutters.
I follow her out of the gates and point her in the direction of a nearby café. | LEARN_MORE | https://b.ficsworld.com/ad/Zmljd29ybGQvMTMzNjE2LzI | 178740541994567 | Fics101 | https://facebook.com/61554382746013 | 113 | 1 | 808,973,914,600,555 | 2024-03-26 02:00 | person_profile | eligible | 0 | 0 | NONE | 0 | 0 | 1 | 1 | Learn more | 0 | Fics101 | 120210129950060460 | b.ficsworld.com | NONE | video | https://b.ficsworld.com/ad/Zmljd29ybGQvMTMzNjE2LzIwMjQwMzI2MTYyMzIwL3BhZ2U=?adid={{ad.id}} | 2024-03-26 03:30 | https://scontent-iad3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/431614116_1141694543669205_5292443574526417776_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_s60x60&_nc_cat=105&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=c1F-nl6-2swAX9RcLs6&_nc_ht=scontent-iad3-2.xx&oh=00_AfBORhGLLhXhroFmEWGr7ooSGA4PhMDD5Rqipcf27P4ciQ&oe=660A8A86 | person_profile | 0 | Fics101 | https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/433897910_1133784151371761_8398827398613803537_n.jpg?_nc_cat=107&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=4mUTwr2Uc3cAX-ibX1s&_nc_ht=scontent-iad3-1.xx&oh=00_AfBEHbxGYkchW3NzoLd_co4KOi0-o9sCdyEht6MtPLVmHQ&oe=6609A0EB | 0 | 3 | Fics101 | 0 | 0 | 2024-03-26 02:00 | View Edit Delete

HOW COULD YOU?â
âBrooke...hush. Not so loud. My folks are sitting out there. Not to mention the entire town. Iâve got a reputation to maintain.â
âYour reputation? YOUR REPUTATION? You asshole, you cheated on me and youâre giving me lessons on reputation?â
This time Ariana interrupted, âBrooke, come on. It was just a fun goodbye. One last time before you get married, you know.â
âONE LAST TIME? How many times was it, huh? Tell me how long this has been going on!â
âUmm...let me thinkâŠâ Ariana answered smugly.
Brooke moved so fast, she herself didnât know when she charged at Ariana, punching her in the face.
âShut the hell up. You...you are the culprit.â
ââââââââ

Brooke stood in front of the mirror as she looked at herself in her wedding gown. It was a silk gown, with an open boatneck and short sleeves. The gown was embroidered with small beautiful flowers studded with stones. Complementing the gown, she wore her motherâs diamond necklace with long earrings. Her tiara was a traditional one, gifted to her by her mother-in-law. Brooke admired herself in the mirror for a while. She couldn't believe that she was about to get married to the man of her dreams. Greg Wilson, the owner of Baxter Auto Pvt. Ltd., the biggest factory in her town.
âYou look great, sister mine,â Meredith Johnson ,her sister, gushed from behind her. âGreg is the luckiest man alive to have landed you as his partner.â
âShut it, Maddy,â Brooke muttered, fixing her hair once again.
âOh please, you know Greg worships the very land you walk on. Heâs a goner.â
âUgh...youâre exaggerating. Besides, we havenât evenâŠâ Brooke blushed as she thought about it.
âOh sweet lord, please tell me youâve had sx,â Meredith exclaimed, and Brooke blushed a deep shade of red. She never knew what to say to her sisterâs very outward observations. Maddy never knew when to shut up.
âOf course Iâve had sxâŠâ Brooke glared at her sister, offended at the accusation, even though she had never gone for full-on penetrative sx, yet. Well, donât blame her, she was waiting for her one and only; her special someone. And apparently, that one and only was Greg Wilson. Tonight, the dry spell was going to end.
âButâŠâ Meredith prompted, waving her hand in a gesture so as to encourage Brooke to continue.
âIâve never ⊠you know,â Brooke replied, making an awkward gesture by hand to imply she was still untouched in many ways.
âHoly !â Meredith exclaimed.
âHey, I was waiting forâŠâ
âYour True Mate.â Meredith completed his sentence, still pretty much stunned by her sisterâs revelation. She knew her sister was a hopeless romantic and a stubborn bimbo, but she didnât know she held the idea of âMates for lifeâ so seriously. It was kind of cute though. âMan...I have to commend Gregâs patience.â
âMaddy..â Brooke gritted out, questioning her sanity as to why she was having this conversation with her sister.
âThree years, Brooke. For three years youâve held back and the man never complained. To top it off, he asked you to marry him. Wow. â
âHey, itâs not like Iâve never done anything. We have been...intimate.â
âIntimate...wow, you really sound like a fourteen-year-old teenage girl. â
âUgh...why do you always harass me? Why canât it be Neil helping me?â Brooke whined.
âOh, cool it with the whining. Donât worry. When he gets a serious girlfriend Iâll have the same talk with him, too,â Meredith answered gleefully and headed off towards the hall.
Brooke was pacing the small room, killing time before she had to show up at the altar.
âHey, Brooke, let's get going,â Neil, her big brother, said, as he dragged Brooke by her arm. He wasn't quite the patient one.
âWait...I gottaâŠâ
âBrooke, itâs okay to be nervous. Remember, the guy loves you. You love him. Heâs not going anywhere.â Neil reminded her.
âI know, but,â Brooke looked thoughtful as she chewed on his lower lip. âI gotta fix my gown..â She dashed from there towards the private restroom that was to the left of the hall. All day she had felt restless like something was missing or something was falling apart. She couldnât exactly explain what was going on in her mind but she was uneasy. She didnât know why but there was a twisted feeling in her gut that something was going to go wrong. She couldn't put a finger on it. Just as she was about to open the door, she heard voices from inside. Brooke leaned in and carefully listened.
Someone was grunting and...shouting?
Brooke was confused. Why would someone while they were in restroom? She was about to knock on the door when she heard someone yelling from inside. Afraid that something might have happened, she hastily opened the door and was shocked to her core. One of Gregâs assistants, Ariana Hawkins, was undressed and was kis sing her fiance, while the said fiance was buried deep inside the woman. Greg had Ariana perched atop the counter in between the basin and the wall. Brooke couldnât believe her eyes. She stood frozen on the spot. She blinked and shook her head trying to deny whatever was happening in front of her. But no matter how much she tried, the scene remained the same. She wasnât dreaming then, it dawned on her, no matter how much she wanted. Her heart stuttered and her breathing was erratic. This was reality. Her boyfriend of three years, Greg Wilson, to whom she was about to get married, was having sx with his assistant, Ariana Hawkins!
âHOW DARE YOU, YOU ?â Brooke shouted, knowing people in the hall could very well hear her.
Greg and Ariana looked at her like deer caught in the headlights.
âBrookeâŠâ Greg scrambled to get away from Ariana, pulling his pants back up.
âI trusted you. HOW COULD YOU?â Brooke stepped inside, yelling at the top of her voice, unable to take in the betrayal.
âBrooke...hush. Not so loud. My folks are sitting out there. Not to mention the entire town. Iâve got a reputation to maintain.â Greg gritted his teeth as she talked to her in a hushed tone.
Brooke couldnât believe the nerve of this man. âYour reputation? YOUR REPUTATION? You prick, you cheated on me and youâre giving me lessons on reputation?â
âBrookeâŠâ
âDonât Brooke me you liar. Youâre just another scum who canât keep his shaft in his pants, instead of parading it all over town.â
This time Ariana interrupted, âBrooke, come on. It was just a fun goodbye. One last time before you get married, you know.â She smirked, not giving a second thought to the fact that she was standing undressed in the restroom with her boss and his soon to be wife.
Brookeâs eyebrows hit her hairline, she couldnât believe this. Her mouth went dry. âONE LAST TIME? How many times was it, huh? Tell me how long this has been going on!â
âUmm...let me thinkâŠâ Ariana answered smugly. She never liked Brooke and she always wondered what Greg found in this woman.
Brooke moved so fast, she herself didnât know when she charged at Ariana, punching her in the face. âShut the up. You...you are the culprit.â Ariana was knocked down on the floor, shouting in pain, hands covering her nose. Brooke was about to punch the woman again when Greg held her by her arm.
âThatâs enough Brooke,â Greg yelled, trying to keep Brooke from attacking again.
âDonât you touch me, you piece of .â Brooke pulled her arm back. âYou prick, how could you?â She demanded. She had trusted this man with her great. To see him betrayed that trust was like a punch to the gut.
âItâs all your fault, Brooke. A man can only wait for so long. I had enough patience all these years. ButâŠâ
âOh, so youâre saying you went behind my back and cheated on me just because I didnât put out for you?â Brooke questioned, unable to fathom the faulty logic.
âBrookeâŠâ Greg spoke, quite exasperated, but wasnât able to complete his sentence as Brooke interrupted him.
âShut the up. I canât believe I was going to marry you,â Brooke said, her voice breaking a bit. She couldnât even look at the man. Just the thought of standing near the man made her nauseous. She was disgusted with him. She walked out of the bathroom and straight into the hall when she heard Greg yelling after her.
âThatâs just it, isnât it? Throw a fit like the bimbo that you are and walk out. Thatâs exactly your style.â Greg rushed after her.
âHow dare you?â Brooke yelled back. She could feel everyone looking at them.
âHow dare me? How dare you? How dare you deny me? Me? Iâm Greg Wilson and I always get what I want.â Greg shouted and for the first time in their relationship, Brooke saw the arrogance and sense of entitlement oozing out of the man. She questioned herself as to how she never saw this.
âYou know what, pretty boy? You are right. You always get what you want. Just like you got to sleep with that secretary of yours because you could no longer keep it in your pants. Which means you got a booty at your beck and call and you once again are going to be the talk of the town. You got what you wanted. And guess what else? The wedding is off. Donât you dare show me your face ever again, you lying, cheating .â Saying this, Brooke walked out of the hall. There were people around whispering. She could see her family and friends gathering around her. Her brother Neil was angry, she could tell. There was sadness in her motherâs eyes and her sister looked furious. She wanted to run to them and cry her heart out in the safety of their arms. But at the moment, she couldnât. She felt humiliated in front of everyone. She couldnât stop here for another second and listen to anyone trying to give her false assurances. She rushed to her car and drove away towards her apartment, trying to keep the tears at bay. She couldnât believe this was her fate. She had loved the man with everything she had and lost him just because Greg would rather sleep with his bimbo of a secretary than getting married to Brooke.
All Greg had to do was ask him, explain his needs, and Brooke would have given him what he desired. Instead, her fiance, well ex-fiance, thought it appropriate to have sx with someone else. A single tear rolled down her cheek. Until today Brooke was at her happiest. She had her own firm, she earned well and had a great family. She was in love. She had a loving fiance and she was about to get married to the love of her life. She was going to finally settle down, have a great married life, have kids, maybe adopt a dog and live happily ever after. It was everything she ever wanted for herself.
And now she had lost everything. Brooke angrily wiped at her eyes and decided that right now she didnât want to think about anything. She didnât want to meet anyone, didnât want to hear the pity in her friendâs or her familyâs voice when they consoled her. Her only plans for the moment were getting hammered, eating junk food, and passing out.
That was exactly what she did once she reached her apartment, in that exact order.

The next week Brooke got up early and went about her morning routine. She went for a jog, which was a bit awkward as everyone at the park seemed to be giving her looks and talking about her in hushed tones. She gathered it was bound to happen after the whole 'wedding gone wrong' debacle. She didnât pay too much attention to the gossip-mongering and focused on herself. When she came back home, she headed for a shower. She had eggs, toast, and fruit for breakfast. The first thing she decided to do was call her friends and family. She called Beth and Steve first, starting with an apology for not opening up the door that day and for being rude. They both forgave him quickly, but Beth threatened him that if Brooke ever did that again, sheâd barge in by breaking down the door and kicking her hip. They talked for a while and made a plan to meet up at the cafe sometime soon. Next up, she called his family, assuring her mother that everything was okay and that she was getting better. She promised her father heâd see them soon. Brooke truly felt lucky to have such a loving and caring family and friends around him.
Initially, Brooke didnât want to go out of the house. But she was renewed with hope that maybe things would be better one day and sheâd stop hurting. So, she got dressed and headed for her office. Donald, her secretary, was sitting at his desk when she entered. The moment she entered, Donald went into panic mode.
âMaâam...I...I didnât know you were coming in today,â Donald said, coming around his desk, clearly taken aback by Brookeâs presence.
âWhy? You didnât think I had retired, did you?â Brooke teased him, trying to ease the tension.
Brooke had hired Donald when she'd met the man at Wilsonâs office as he was trying to get a job. Brooke had been there to meet Greg and had seen Donald hurriedly exiting the office where the interviews were being held. Intrigued, she had followed him and found him desperately fighting his tears. She had calmed him down and asked her what the problem was. Turned out, he was a PA at the firm, and then eventually the firm had closed down. Faced with sudden unemployment, his parents had asked her to come back and seek a job here in Twin Peaks. Unfortunately, it had been six months and she had yet to get a job. His father was suffering from heart issues and because they were tight on money, they couldnât afford the medication. He badly needed a job and heâd had no luck so far. Looking at his portfolio, Brooke was impressed, and her previous secretary, Stacy had just gotten married and left the job. Brooke took the opportunity to give him a chance. The next day she called him for an interview and ever since heâd been managing Brookeâs contacts.
âN-no, nothing of that sort.â Donald hurried to explain. âItâs justâŠIâve been trying to get hold of youâŠâ He trailed off, not knowing how he should let Brookeknow just how much trouble they were in.
âDonny, calm down. What happened?â
âUmm...two days after the wedding, I got a call from Morris. They have hired an Austin-based firm and have dropped us as their architects. Then a day later, the Ultra Machineâs executive, Ms. Kennedy called and they canceled their contract with us. Even Carl Gregson called and they said theyâre forced to drop us. Madam, weâre only left with two clients now, and Iâm really worried they might turn us down, too,â Donald said, her voice trembling.
Brooke was beyond shocked. Her mouth was dry. She was out of the office just a little over a week and most of his contracts were gone. âWhy...why didnât you say something sooner? Why didnât you call me?â
âI tried, but your phone was switched off. I even came to your house but no one opened the door. I didnât know what to do. Iâm so sorry.â Donald explain, looking sad as if it was all her fault.
âHey...itâs alright.â Now more than ever, he was regretting staying at home. âDi...did any of them give us a reason for suddenly terminating their contracts?â
Donald looked up at him. There was something akin to pity in her expression which Brooke couldnât understand the reason behind, âThey said they cannot work with you because...becauseâŠ.â
âBecause?â
âBecause you canceled the wedding with Mr. Wilson,â Donald whispered, afraid of her reaction. He felt bad for her. She was a good person and a great boss. To see this happening to her was really sad.
âWhat?â
âThereâs talk in town that Mr. Wilson has asked everyone to cut off any kind of relationship they had with youâŠâ Donald trailed off.
âSay no more.â It dawned on Brooke what was going on. âThank you, Donald.â She said and headed straight into her office. She was enraged. How dare Greg do that to her? But more than that she was furious with her clients. Theyâd known her for a long time. Some of them had known him since she was a child. And yet they had bowed down to the pressure. The first thing she did was call Morris.
âHey, Charles, this is Brooke. What the ? How can you terminate the contract with my firm without proper intimation?â Brooke
âBrooke, Iâm sorry son. I didnât want to pull out, but you know Greg. The Wilsonâs lent me money so I could afford my sonâs higher education. I owe them. They forced me to cancel the deal with you or else face the consequences.â
Brooke gasped at the information. Never in her life would he have thought Greg would be so cruel as to threaten people. But it seemed Brooke never knew the evil Greg that was hidden behind the mask of a supposedly decent, charming, young man.
âYou canât give in. You know he cheated on me.â
âI know, Brooke. I know. But he says heâs going to make sure you come back to him crying and begging. Iâm so sorry, my dear.â
Not in the mood to hear anything else, Brooke hung up. She felt betrayed and enraged. Sheâd worked so hard to establish this firm and it was going to be over just because she declined to marry Greg! She called Greg, furious with white-hot rage. âYou idiot,â Brooke yelled when the call was picked up.
âHello to you too, honey.â Gregâs voice penetrated his ears and Brooke could tell he was mocking her.
âHow dare you? You cheated on me and now you think youâll turn my clients away with threats? â
âI donât think, sugar. I did.â
âYou smug , what do you want? Why donât you leave me alone?â
âOh sweetie, after the stunt you pulled in front of everyone in town that day, I think you deserve this. And youâll slowly come to understand that your place is with me, by my side and youâll come back running to me.â
âOh my God, how did I ever think that you were a good man? I cannot believe I couldnât see beyond that mask and found out just how cruel and evil you are.â
âOh sweetheart, come on. It was just a fling. You forget you are mine. And Iâll see to it that I get you back.â
âIn your dreams. You think if you shut down my business Iâll come crawling back to you? Youâre wrong. I will close down my firm or sell my business before I would ever come back to you. You think youâre so awesome. Wait till karma catches up with you.â | LEARN_MORE | https://a.read4funs.com/ad/ZmFuY3lOb3ZlbC8xMzMyNTM | 123823310705302 | ForFun-100 | https://facebook.com/100094441775812 | 84 | 1 | 1,363,465,167,689,671 | 2024-03-26 02:00 | person_profile | eligible | 0 | 0 | NONE | 0 | 0 | 1 | 1 | Learn more | 0 | ForFun-100 | 120209018560720361 | a.read4funs.com | NONE | video | https://a.read4funs.com/ad/ZmFuY3lOb3ZlbC8xMzMyNTMvMjAyNDAzMjYxNTQ0MDEvcGFnZQ==?adid={{ad.id}} | 2024-03-26 04:00 | https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/434258594_1476066662944337_651307900821898583_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_s60x60&_nc_cat=108&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=0GllZ1jbDy4AX96BPJa&_nc_ht=scontent-lax3-1.xx&oh=00_AfCpK-pY4IUfELGiNiWhuWMAPxbC1gM1Ck58q_qvDJrBuw&oe=660ACFEF | person_profile | 0 | ForFun-100 | https://scontent-lax3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/434254199_779028330853463_2569686110930033435_n.jpg?_nc_cat=107&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=zsToFbxDbvAAX93Xqkd&_nc_ht=scontent-lax3-2.xx&oh=00_AfDNbYu22BN1KipvuoNsu0K7ycLNCwQ-It0jap651YuZWg&oe=660B42C3 | 0 | 3 | ForFun-100 | 0 | 0 | 2024-03-26 02:00 | View Edit Delete

As he rejected me, I retaliated by cutting off all contact with the pack⊠

Chapter 1: Ayla
âAyla, is dinner ready? No more delay. Kylee and Theo will be soon here!â
âYes, mom.â I sighed hearing my mother's impatient urging.
Kylee is my little sister, and Theo is her mate as well as our future Alpha. It is said that they had been together for over a year, and today is the first Kylee has brought her mate home. I was so happy for her.
Our current Alpha, Alpha Torin, was a good leader, a fair leader, and a good man. I knew he had a son, but I had never met him before.
But I had heard that his son, Theo, was promising to be just as good an Alpha as his father. So I really couldnât have been more relieved that he was my sisterâs mate. She would be properly looked after and taken care of, and she would be happy.
I was pulling the chicken out of the oven when I saw my mother rushing past me, excitedly shouting towards the door, âThey're here.â
After my father passed away, my mother had become an alcoholic. But she always managed to look presentable in front of Kylee. For example, today, she was not only dressed neatly, but even used mouthwash.

I was still transferring the food when I heard the front door open and the squeals of my mother and sister as they embraced. I finished my task and moved the dishes to the dining room table that was already set neatly. I smiled at my presentation and excitedly hurried to the living room.

I froze at the threshold. A scent overwhelmed my senses, causing my stomach to knot and my heart to race.

The tall, broad man standing next to my sister turned toward me and we locked eyes.

Mate.

I practically gagged trying to stifle the word from slipping from my mouth.

What was happening?

This was my sisterâs mate.

Not mine.

This man was fated to Kylee.

So why was I having this reaction?

Better questionâŠ

Why did HE seem to be having the same reaction?

His eyes were wide, pupils dilated, and they held my gaze with a vice-like grip as he, too, seemed frozen to where he stood.

Dasha, my wolf, bounced excitedly in my head, recognizing him and his wolf just as I was. It took a minute for her to understand the situation, but once she did, she started whimpering in the back of my mind.

This couldnât be happening.

What was happening?

I forced myself to address the situation as a whole. Fine, this was happening. Now, what is the best way to handle the situation? I wasnât going to break my sisterâs heart. Absolutely not. I wouldnât let him either. Not right now. Weâll just get through dinner, and Iâll find a way to speak with him in private later.

I cleared my throat and plastered a smile on my face.

âKylee, Iâm so excited youâre home,â I said, opening my arms so she could jump into them like she had since she was little.

âIâve missed you, sis,â she said.

âIâve missed you, too,â I said quietly.

We separated, and she turned to the male behind her. âTheo, this is my sister, Ayla. Ayla, this is my mate, Theo.â

Theoâs hands were clenched into fists, and he forced a tight-jawed smile toward me. At least I was better at faking it them him. Geesh.

I nodded to him with a broad smile. I knew it didnât reach my eyes, but at least Ma and Kylee wouldnât notice.

âItâs lovely to meet you, Theo,â I said. âDinner is ready in the dining room. Why donât you guys go take a seat, and Iâll be right there. I need to tend to dessert first.â

âDonât take too long,â Kylee said brightly. âWe have some big news, and I donât think I can wait much longer.â

âI promise Iâll be right there,â I assured her as I rubbed her shoulder.

Kylee grabbed Ma by the arm and led her to the dining room. Theo followed a few steps behind. He had to pass me to get through. Right as he approached, I turned my body to ensure we didnât touch. He paused in front of me for a moment. I looked up to meet his eyes.

There was anger, confusion, desire, and possibly even hurt reflecting in his eyes that I couldnât help but notice were the color of honey. He had questions. I subtly shook my head at him. Hoping and silently begging that he knew we couldnât do this here.

The sound of Kyleeâs laugh from the other room made me jump and then quickly retreat to the kitchen. I grabbed the homemade cheesecake from the fridge and set it on the counter for later.

I listened to the others conversing in the next room and took several deep breaths. I felt a lump start to form in my throat and quickly pushed it down. This wasnât the time to cry.

I was almost to the dining room when I heard the last part of what Kylee was saying, and again, I was left frozen at the threshold.

â⊠our mating ceremony is in three months.â Kylee looked up at me. âOh, Ayla, Iâm sorry. I just couldnât hold back any longer. Arenât you happy for us?â

I put the same fake smile back on. âOf course Iâm happy for you,â I said. âYou deserve the best.â

I took my seat at the table, ignoring the fact that I was left sitting directly across from Theo. His eyes were boring into me, and my face felt like it was on fire. I started dishing out food and passing plates. I didnât say much over dinner. Instead, I just listened to Kylee and Ma talk about all the ideas they had for the mating ceremony. Theo didnât say much either but slowly started to do a better job hiding his discomfort with the situation.

It took everything to ignore the touches they shared, pushing down the jealousy that kept surging through me.
After dinner, while they were still talking, I made an excuse to slip out through the back door.

I stood on the porch and took several deep breaths. I released a string of curses.
âWhat is happening? Why is this happening? This ISNâT happening,â I whispered with the force of a yell.

âOur mate.â Dasha insisted.

âNo, heâs not,â I said back to her. âHeâs Kyleeâs. There must be some kind of mistake.â

All of a sudden, I stiffened as a mouthwatering scent hit my nose. I knew who was standing behind me.

Chapter 2: Theo
I fought against the urges her scent was influencing as I stalked up to her. But more importantly, the urge to grab her and take her against the nearest tree. My wolf was going crazy about the idea, but he would learn fast that that was never going to happen.

I wouldnât accept her.

Knowing what I knew about her, that would never happen.

She turned to face me.

âThis wonât happen,â I spat out before she had a chance to speak.
Her jaw clenched, and her silvery-gray eyes stared into mine for a few short moments. But I couldnât read a thing behind them.

âI absolutely agree,â she stated evenly.

My wolf growled and snarled inside me, demanding to know what I was doing. I pushed down the hurt that hit me when she didnât fight me. Her reaction just proved why this needed to be done. I could never be with someone so cold and self-absorbed as her. There was no way someone like her could ever be my Luna.

âDonât know her.â Kieran yelled in my head.

I knew enough.

âKylee is my mate. Not you. I, Theo Arden, future Alpha of the Greytooth Pack, reject you, Ayla Garner, as my mate and Luna.â Kieran was snapping his teeth, pushing to take control to stop this.

âI, Ayla Garner, accept your rejection and relinquish my claim as your mate and Luna.â

My wolf howled in pain. A pain that was mirrored within me as it felt like my heart was being ripped apart. It was the bond breaking. Releasing me from the tie that bound us together.
She stood there like nothing happened.

How could she stand there like nothing had happened?

She really didnât feel anything, did she? It was so easy for her to let us go.

âMate wants me.â

I grimaced. He meant her wolf. Her wolf wanted mine. He could sense her. She was even denying her wolf. I couldnât stand it anymore. I needed to get away from her.

I stormed back into the house, returning to the woman the goddess should have made my mate. I returned to the dining room to find her mother and her still deep in conversation. I was grateful she hadnât seemed to notice my absence or the change in my mood. It wasnât surprising. She was excited about seeing her family and sharing the news with them.

I had been, too, until her sister walked into the room. The scent had engulfed me, driving me to seek out the source like a lifeline. When I saw her, her beauty took my breath away. She was petit but strong, with long legs and perfect curves. She had a mass of caramel-blonde hair that cascaded over her shoulders, framing a face with plump lips and intense gray eyes that shined green in the light. I couldnât help but want her. I recognized who she was to me immediately.

But then I noticed her narrow nose and soft jawline were familiar. Her fair skin had a sun-kissed glow that I had always found attractive. Once I realized she had similar features to Kylee, I knew this was her sister, Ayla.

Kylee had told me on many occasions how her sister had changed after the death of their father. She was there for Kylee at first, but in less than a year, she started spending all her time away from home. She ended up dropping out of the private school her parents had worked so hard to send her to. Eventually, Kylee lost track of what she was doing with her life.

Kylee was there for her when she was around, trying to be supportive. But she wasnât the sister she used to love. What bothered her most was Aylaâs treatment of their mother. Ayla still lived in the house with her, but Kylee always got the impression that helping their mother was just a burden. She worried their mother would be left with no one to take care of her, and she wasnât in the best of health anymore.

âI have an idea,â I interrupted. They both looked up at me expectantly. âWhy doesnât your mother come to stay with us for a while? At least until the ceremony? We have the room in the packhouse, and Iâm sure you and my mother would appreciate the extra input.â

Both their faces lit up.

âReally? We can do that?â Kylee said happily.

âOf course,â I said with a smile.

âThank you.â

Kylee jumped up from the table and threw her arms around me, kissing me sweetly. I ignored the growls coming from Kieran. Seeing their reaction told me I had made the exact right decision. Despite what the burning in my chest told me.

This was who I was supposed to be with. Not Ayla.

âKeep saying. Maybe believe.â

I told him to shut up, and he retreated into the back of my mind, cutting himself off from me.

He would get over it. Once the bond was completely severed, he would understand this was the right thing for us and the pack.

Chapter 3: Ayla
I had managed to get myself together enough to rejoin my family. The pain that seared through me from Theoâs rejection and my subsequent acceptance almost brought me to my knees. It took all of my strength to keep my body from shaking, praying he didnât notice the blood coming from my palms. I had clenched my fists so hard trying to stay on my feet that I broke the skin.

When he finally left, I released the sob that was the only thing capable of coming out of my mouth. But I didnât let the tears fall. Not yet. They couldnât know.

So, I steadied my breathing and went back into my house. I was surprised to find that Kylee and Ma werenât in the dining room anymore. They werenât in the living room either. But Theo was.

âTheyâre in your motherâs room packing,â he said coldly.

âPacking?â What was he talking about?

He stepped closer to me, lowering his voice. âI think itâs best that you keep your distance from Kylee for a while. We donât want her finding out about this. But I know sheâll want her mother to be a part of the ceremony planning. So sheâs coming back with us.â

I felt like he just slapped me in the face. As if I would ever tell her. Thatâs why I was doing this. So that I wouldnât break my baby sisterâs heart. I gave him what he wanted, and now he was going to keep me from my family?

Dasha was confused and in pain, whimpering in my head because she didnât understand how he could be so cruel to us.

âIf thatâs what you think is best,â I said to Theo through gritted teeth.

âKylee,â he called out, not breaking eye contact. âLetâs get going.â

My sister came prancing into the room. âAlready?â

âItâs getting late. Letâs head to the hotel for the night. Weâll swing by in the morning to pick up your mother.â

âOkay,â she said brightly before turning to me. âWhat about you, Ayla? Youâre coming with, too, right?â

I opened my mouth to speak, but Theo decided to answer for me.

âWe were just talking about that. Ayla has some things going on with work and canât get away.â

I gave her a tight smile. âYes, Iâm sorry. But I will try to come out there as soon as I can.â

âOh, okay, I understand. But Iâll make sure we have a room ready for you whenever you can come.â

âOf course. I canât wait,â I said, my heart breaking again, knowing Theo wouldnât allow me to be there with her.

We all said our goodbyes, and they left. Ma was still standing at the window watching them drive off when I went to clean up the dishes in the kitchen. She finally came in behind me and started opening another bottle of wine. We had gone through four during dinner already. And I barely touched my glass.

âMa, youâve had enough for the night,â I said calmly.

âOh, come on. Itâs a celebration,â Ma said. âItâs not every day you find out your baby is going to be a Luna.â

âMa, you can celebrate more tomorrow. You need to finish packing,â I said, gently taking the bottle from her hand. âIâm sure Kylee and Theo will be here first thing in the morning.â

âWe can celebrate together while you help me pack,â she said, grabbing the bottle back from me. âThen Iâll help you pack.â

I winced. This wasnât going to end well. âIâm not coming, Ma.â

She stopped with the glass halfway to her lips. âWhat do you mean youâre not coming?â she asked with a pout. âYou have to be there. Kylee is going to be mated. I told her we would help pay for the ceremony.â

I winced again. She meant me. I would be helping pay for the ceremony. Ma didnât have a penny to her name.

âThis is a big deal. Donât be so selfish, Ayla.â

Her words stung, but they werenât unexpected. This was kind of the norm when she got like this. I know she didnât really mean it. At least, she wouldnât mean it when she was sober. I got her into her bedroom and set her on the bed. I changed her into her nightgown and tucked her in.

She was asleep in seconds. I hurried through the rest of her packing. Stuffing two large suitcases as full as I could before carrying them out to the living room. Then I locked the front door, finished the last of the dishes, and slipped out into the backyard.

I stripped off my clothes as I headed for the forest, desperate to get under its protective shadows. As soon as I passed the treeline, I shifted, taking off at full speed. I let Dasha feel all the pain. I didnât try to hold her back anymore.

We would mourn the loss of our fated mate. The loss of the one person who was supposed to see us for who we were. The one person who was supposed to always put us first, without demands or expectations. We would mourn the loss of never getting to experience that.
But we wouldnât mourn him.

We ran until we could barely breathe. Until Dasha stopped at the edge of our pond â our place of solace â and let out a heartwrenching howl into the night air. Shifting at the end as she retreated back into my mind, out of reach to heal her broken heart, while I let the torrent of tears finally fall.

I walked into the water, curling into myself as the sobs wracked my body, intensifying the burn that was still there from our bond being ripped from my heart.

I submerged myself completely, washing my body clean of Theo, the mate bond, and every dream of finding my soulmate.

In the midst of this pain I drifted off to sleep.
The next morning.
When I made it back to the house, there was no one there. My mother had been taken away by them.
I was standing in an empty room in an empty house. The silence was deafening. And it all came crashing down. I sank to my knees, begging the goddess to just let it all go away, just for a little while. I just wanted to feel numb.

I lost track of how long I sat in that spot, staring without seeing. I didnât even know Zeff was there until I felt him grip my arms.

âAyls, what happened? Whatâs wrong?â he asked, brushing hair out of my face, forcing me to look at him. âAyla, what is going on?â

âI found my mate,â I said, the corner of my mouth tipping up mockingly. âHeâs scheduled to be mated to my sister.â

âWhat?â Zeff exclaimed, anger and concern twisting his handsome features.

Zeff was a good man. He had been there for me when no one else was. He was the only person who knew everything I went through. And here he was, listening to me tell him about meeting Theo, the mating ceremony, and my rejection. Why couldnât he have been my mate? He should have been.

âCome on,â he said, lifting me up. âYouâre coming to stay with me.â

I didnât protest. The goddess had given me this one little blessing. I was numb. Zeff held me up by my waist and led me out to his car. He tucked me into the passenger seat and disappeared into the house again, only to emerge a few minutes later with a duffel bag in hand.

He pulled out and drove us the twenty minutes to his house. Just like before, he helped me inside, this time sitting me on the big, comfy leather couch in his living room.

He came and sat next to me, putting an arm over my shoulder and pulling me into him. I let myself relax some. This was the first thing since Theo walked into my life that felt normal, felt comfortable. He leaned his head on mine, rubbing his fingers along my arm.

âAyla. Youâre going to deal with this â weâre going to deal with this together. Screw him, okay. Heâs a dirtbag. You deserve so much better than some fool who doesnât see how incredible you are.â

I wanted to roll my eyes, but it wasnât just about him.

âHe took my family, Zeff. I would have gotten over him just rejecting me because of Kylee. At least she would be safe and happy.â

âNo. They either treat you like a servant or a bank. They donât care what their actions do to you as long as they keep getting what they want."

âZeff...But they were my familyâ I wanted to contradict him, but I knew he was right.

âGet over him.â He took a step toward me, reaching up to hold my chin. âHeâs not the only one who can take care of you, Ayla. He may be foolish enough not to want you, but Iâm not.â

My breath caught in my throat. He had told me about his feelings before, but we both avoided going down that road with each other. We knew we could find our fated mates at any time, and we didnât want to deny each other that.

âMove in here with me, Ayls,â Zeff said. âThereâs nothing stopping us now.â

âZeff, you still have a mate out there somewhere.â

âAyla, stop. Iâm thirty-four and well-traveled. If I was going to find her, I would have long before now. We both know that.â

Suddenly his lips were on mine. I was shocked, but mostly because it felt good. I felt wanted. I kissed him back, not wanting to give that feeling up. I leaned into him â until Dasha came charging to the forefront, growling and snarling that someone who wasnât our mate was touching us.

I ripped myself from Zeffâs embrace. Breathing heavily, the pain of the severed bond renewed. I clutched my chest.

âAyla.â

âI canât. The bond. Itâs still there. It hasnât faded yet.â

Zeff pulled me into his arms. âOkay. Itâs okay. We can wait. Weâll take it slow.â

I rested my head on his chest. âOkay.â

He squeezed me tighter. I still didnât know if we could make this work, but I wanted to try.

I stayed with the Zeff, and it was quiet. Until a week later, when Theo burst in.

Chapter 4: Theo
It had been a week since I had gone home with Kylee. Seven days and a hundred miles away, and the bond was still there. The burning in my chest wouldnât go away. I didnât understand and it was annoying.

More important is Kieran. He had spent the whole week giving me the silent treatment, except when Kylee was around. Then all he did was growl and snarl. It was getting exhausting.

I had taken to holing up in my office most of the time. I didnât want to snap at Kylee, or her mother, which had become hard to avoid by the third day. I was glad I had a good reason for me being so busy all of a sudden.

Alpha was sick. He was diagnosed with a progressive disease almost a year ago. So, he decided it was time to hand the title down to me. It wasnât official yet. We were planning on making the change at the same time as Kyleeâs and my mating ceremony. Actually, thatâs why I decided to make Kylee my official mate. Alphaâs were always stronger with a strong Luna by their side. With the circumstances of my fatherâs abdication, our pack needed to be as strong as possible.

But there was still a lot to take care of and a lot I had to learn about being an Alpha before that time. So it wasnât hard to convince her that it was the stress that was causing me to be distant.

But this morning, I'm driving myself to Kylee's house. I promised to help her retrieve her mother's necklace, which she wanted to wear during our mating ceremony.

In addition, if I couldnât completely sever the bond between me and Ayla, Kieran could end up taking control and stop me from marking Kylee.
So, once I got the necklace, Iâd reject Ayla again, making sure it stuck this time, and Iâd go back home.

When I pulled up to the house, something twisted in my gut. When I step into the house, her invigorating scent of oranges and cloves invaded my nostrils, but it wasnât nearly as strong as it should have been.
I realize Ayla wasn't home.
Instead, there was another smell in Ayla's room.
The scent was male. It was faint, he wasnât here long, but mixed in with the distinctive scent of my mate, I could pick it out anywhere. From the trail, it seemed as if he was the one who packed up her things.

I stormed out of the house. Tossing the jewelry box in the passenger seat, I took my phone out and searched for the number for the publishing house Kylee said Ayla worked for.
I got another address that Ayla had added to her personal profile from the receptionist.

I followed the GPS to the address, pulling into the drive of a large, two-story house in a nice neighborhood. Parking half on the lawn, I didnât even close the car door before taking the front steps two at a time.

I banged on the door until I heard movement inside. A man opened it. It was the male I smelled in Aylaâs room. Before he could say anything, I lunged at him, my hands grabbing the front of his shirt and practically lifting him off the ground.

âWhat have you done with her? I smell her all over you. Where is she?â

He pushed me off him, his eyes glaring at me with recognition and disdain.

âYou must be Theo.â

âWhat is going on?â Aylaâs voice floated down to me as she ran down the stairs. She froze halfway down the moment she laid eyes on me. âWhat are you doing here?â

A silk robe hung open, revealing the shorts and cut-off tank top she wore underneath, her caramel-colored hair flowing loosely around her shoulders. She was gorgeous. And clearly not in distress. I took a step toward her as my rage grew.

âWhat are you doing here?â I spat back.

âThatâs none of your concern,â the male interjected.

I turned on him again, a rumbling growl emanating from my chest, my claws extending. I was ready to rip his throat out.

âStop,â Ayla yelled, coming the rest of the way down the stairs and stepping between the two of us. âZeff, go to work.â

âAbsolutely not. Iâm not leaving you here with him. Not in the state heâs in.â

âI would never hurt her.â Kieran was ready to burst from my skin. How dare this dirtbag think we would ever lay a hand on her.

âWe both know thatâs crap.â

âZeff, I said go.â Her expression softened a little. âIâll call you later.â

She would.

The Zeff guy shot me another hate-filled look before exiting out the open front door. We stood in silence until the sound of his engine faded.

âAre you dating him?â

Her eyes went wide, then narrowed as she took a step forward. âWhat I do with a male â or anyone for that matter â is none of your business.â

âIt isnât.â Electricity passed through the air between us. âHe has no right to put his hands on you.â

âHe does if I want him to,â she yelled, not only holding her ground against the alpha energy I was exuding but taking another step toward me. âI donât belong to anyone, remember? I have no mate.â

I lost it. My hand was around her neck and my mouth was on hers before I even knew what I had done. But I didnât stop. I couldnât stop. Sparks of intense electricity shot through me, invigorating all my senses. I pushed her to open for me, my tongue seeking hers. Goddess, she tasted so good. She returned the kiss, her arousal mingling in the air.

âMINE.â

She pushed me off her with force.

I took a step toward her again but she backed away.

âDonât you hurt Kylee like this.â

âLike you care about your sister getting hurt,â I spat, but for some reason, I instantly regretted it. But I couldnât take it back. I wouldnât take it back.

âExcuse me?â Pure rage radiated off of her, her eyes turning an icy blue.

âYou abandoned Kylee a long time ago. You disappeared all the time, leaving her alone with a mother who was struggling to keep everything together.â

Aylaâs face paled. Every ounce of anger seemed to drain from her instantly, that blue fire fading from her eyes.

She almost went completely limp in front of me, stumbling until her back hit the wall. Her façade cracked.

âThatâs what she told you? She said that?â her voice was almost a whisper.

Kieran was going insane in my head, telling me to shut up, to just stop talking. Urging me to stop hurting her. Because I was hurting her. I had struck a nerve, a very deep one, and I wouldnât stop. She had to break the bond. Once and for all. If it meant I had to break her to do it, I would.

âShe told me everything. She told me how you would keep things from her and your mother. That you would be out at all hours of the night when you were a teenager. How you dropped out of high school, waisting the tuition your parents worked so hard for.â

âWhat?â

âI could never be with someone as cold and heartless as you.â

Aylaâs head snapped up. Her eyes a steely gray as she resolved herself to something I couldnât figure out but would soon find out.

âI, Ayla Garner, reject you, Theo Arden, as my mate. I relinquish my claim as your mate and Luna.â

I gritted my teeth as Kieran howled in my head, screaming for me not to accept it.

âI, Theo Arden, accept your rejection.â The pain in my chest amplified, but I could still feel the bond. âWeâve done this before. Itâs not working.â

âTell your wolf to accept it,â Ayla said with a crack in her voice.

The muscles in my jaw tightened to a point I thought my teeth would shatter. The noise in my head from Kieran becoming almost unbearable.

âHe wonât.â

âMake him,â she forced out.

âI canât.â

âHe doesnât have a choice. Iâll never be with him, and neither will she,â Ayla said, tears threatening to fall from her eyes.

I could feel the pain he felt. It was excruciating. I told him it would end if he just accepted, but he wouldnât give in. He was an Alpha. He was as strong as me. Iâd never overpower him on this. Ayla must have sensed my stalemate. Or her wolf did and told her because she pulled herself from against the wall, standing up straight again.

âI, Ayla Garner, cut my ties to Alpha TorinâŠâ

âWhat are you doing?â There was desperation in my voice. She couldnât do this. I moved to stop her.

âAnd the Greytooth Pack.â

âNo.â I fell to a knee, feeling the invisible tether that united pack members with their Alpha splinter. Kieran was pounding against the barriers of my control, putting all his might into taking over the shift. I knew I was on the verge.

âFrom this day forth, I am a rogue.â She took an unsteady step toward me, silent tears rolling freely down her face. âNow get out.â

She had used my fatherâs name. Either of our names would have worked in the limbo state we were currently in. But she used my fatherâs. There was nothing I could do to stop her. Nothing I could do to fight the separation. She knew exactly what she was doing.

If my wolf wouldnât sever the mate bond, she would remove herself from any control I had over her.

With one final, agonizing look, she walked away, disappearing upstairs.

I took in a ragged breath of air. Ayla now had until midnight to be out of our territory. If I caught her on our land after that, I would have to murder her. Mate bond or not. She was a rogue now. It was our laws.

Kieran had finally gone still in my mind.

âMateâs gone.â

Did he mean Ayla or her wolf?

âDasha. Mateâs name is Dasha. Dashaâs gone.â

Realization hit me and panic set in. Her wolf was gone. The pain was too much. She had retreated deep into the recesses of Aylaâs subconscious. Ayla wouldnât be able to call on her. She wouldnât be able to shift. She wouldnât be able to heal.

She was a rogue without a wolf. She couldnât protect herself.

I had to get as far away from her as possible.

I dragged myself back to my feet, forcing them to walk out the door.

Chapter 5: Ayla
The moment the door was closed, I sank to the floor. It was no longer sobs that escaped my body but soul-shattering screams.

She said I abandoned her.

Theo made it sound like I spent my teen years partying and getting into trouble. She said I dropped out of high school.

She said I wasnât a sister to her.

The betrayal was soul-crushing.

I had given up everything for them.

I screamed and let the tears flow freely until my body ached. As soon as it felt like I could breathe without being stabbed by a red-hot dagger, I pulled myself up and started moving. I only had a few hours to get my things and get out of Greytooth territory.

I had made myself a rogue. I didnât have a pack anymore. And I had no idea where I was going to go. All the borders on this side of the territory sat right against other pack lands. To get out of one, Iâd have to enter another. But it was my only option. Trying to get to unclaimed territory was too risky. I would have better luck on foreign pack land than on the land I just severed ties to.

After leaving a note for Zeff, I packed up and drove away.

The Greytooth Pack may not be the largest in population, but they had one of the biggest territories. The closest border crossing was nearly two hours away. And I needed to be far away before Zeff got home. I couldnât have him tracking me down.

Especially since I didnât give him much of an explanation.

But it was better this way. I wasnât going to risk him cutting ties and going rogue as well. Because he would. He would hold Theo responsible, and he would never stay in a pack with an alpha he didnât respect, let alone hate. This way, the note I left would have just made it seem like I got cold feet about us being together.

I drove to the outskirts of town and got on the highway. From there, it was practically a straight shot to the border. I was grateful at first, but after about an hour, I realized the monotonous ride only left my mind wondering and worrying and thinking about things I didnât need to think about.

When Theo found me in the yard that first day, I had no idea what he would say. His initial reaction to our meeting had me thinking he would pursue the pairing. But then his increasingly icy demeanor throughout the evening made it seem like he was thinking along the same lines I was. He wasnât going to hurt Kylee for someone he didnât know.

He loved her. She loved him. I had no idea who he was, nor he I. We could reject each other and just go on our way. Neither one of us would have to break Kyleeâs heart. I thought he was keeping me from my family to be cruel. Or maybe to make things easier for both of us.

But today, his words revealed a different motive. He didnât reject me for Kylee. He rejected me because of her. Because he believed what she said and painted me as some coldhearted delinquent. But why? I just couldnât figure that out.

Dad died in a gas explosion along with my aunt and uncle ten years ago. I was fourteen, and Kylee was nine. Our thirteen-year-old cousin, Mina, came to live with us for a while after their deaths. Ma was hit pretty hard by the loss, so the three of us quickly started taking care of each other. We spent every spare minute with each other. Then our financial situation changed. Kylee was entirely too young, and Mina had been through enough losing both her parents for me to put that on her. So, it was up to me to keep food on the table and a roof over our heads.

But I was still fourteen. Finding jobs that paid enough to support a family of four at the age of fourteen was non-existent. I would need to work multiple jobs, and there just wasnât enough time in the day. So, I approached the headmaster at my private high school and confided my situation with him. I was desperate not to drop out or risk my grades dropping and losing my scholarship. My parents didnât pay a dime of my tuition.

Headmaster Fordham was a miracle worker. He helped me test out of over eighty percent of my academic requirements by the end of my freshman year. I only had to take four summer classes to graduate a week after my fifteenth birthday. I was even able to broker a deal with him that would set the remaining three years of my scholarship fund aside for Kylee when it came time for her to attend high school.

I still ended up working multiple jobs for several years. But no matter what, I always tried to be there for Kylee as much as possible.

Everything I did was for her.

I completely lost touch with all of my school friends. I never partied. I barely socialized. The jobs I held were really the only place that happened. But I was home to take her to school every morning, and I ensured I had at least an hour to help her with her homework almost every day.

I didnât discuss the lengths I went to with Kylee. I didnât want her to feel bad or that it was her fault. And I didnât want her to see what Ma was going through. She was struggling to keep any job. She was drinking daily. There were even a couple of times she racked up gambling debts that put us in some scary situations.

But I never let Kylee see any of that. It was my job to protect them.

There was so much more that didnât add up with what Theo had said. But I didnât get to think about it further.

A searing pain shot through my chest, making my vision go white at the edges, blinding me to a point I almost missed the figure standing in the road before me.

My heart jumped into my chest. I turned the wheel as sharp as I could, slamming on the brakes to avoid hitting them head-on. The moment I did it, I felt foolish. Within seconds, I was spinning through the air and sliding down an embankment.

When the vehicle came to a stop, I was upside down. I registered the smell of blood, but everything was blurry. I didnât feel significant pain, so I didnât think the blood was coming from me.

The person on the road!

I scrambled out of the car and up the incline. Without Dasha, I couldnât see well in the dark, but I could see a blurry figure moving toward me.

âAre you okay?â I called.

I didnât catch what they were saying because I suddenly felt the world falling out from beneath my feet, and everything went dark.

Chapter 6: Theo
I said I would break her if that was what it took.

And I certainly followed through with that.

Aylaâs hard exterior had cracked and shattered before me.

I had driven over an hour, and my stomach was still in knots. So much so that I had to stop to throw up at one point. Guilt tore at me.

I really had been cruel to her.

Especially since it turned out it wasnât even her fault the bond hadnât broken. She and Dasha had accepted my rejection. They had done what I needed them to do. Ayla had stayed away from Kylee and me. She hadnât tried to be around them. From what I could tell, she hadnât even called Kylee like she used to. And how did I repay her? By ripping her apart with every intention of doing as much damage as possible.

It was my wolf that was still hanging on. It was Kieran who kept us in a constant state of heartache. Kept Ayla in a constant state of pain.

And then she had to go and do something foolish and cut herself out of the pack. She was completely lost to us now. The only thing I could do was tell myself it was what I wanted. It was the only way to get rid of the temptation and put enough distance between us until Kylee and I were marked and mated and leading our pack.

Every time I said it, Kieran was there to argue.

By the time I pulled up to the packhouse, I was so pissed that anyone around instantly took a wide birth. My aura was probably so intense that I was making everyone physically uncomfortable, but I really didnât care.

I was going to head to my office but decided against it. Too many people had access to me there, and I really didnât need anyone coming around.

What I needed was to work off some of this rage and pent-up energy.

I made a beeline for the private training room in the wing of the packhouse reserved for ranking members of the pack. I was relieved to find it empty, tugging my shirt over my head and immediately heading to the punching bag in the corner.

I had worked up a sweat when Briggs entered the room. Walking over to me with his usual swagger, his arms crossed over his chest as he leaned against the wall close by. He knew something was up. He had been hounding me about it since we got back from Kyleeâs house. So had my mother, but I sure wasnât going down that road.

Briggs was my Beta. We had been friends since we were eight and had been through everything together since then. I didnât think there was anything we could hide from each other. But I surely wanted to hide this from him. So I just ignored his presence.

âYou ready to tell me what is going on with you? Or at least, where you were today?â he said loud enough to be heard over the sound of my fists hitting the bag.

âNo.â

âIf you donât, weâll sedate you. Your aura is out of control right now, bro. This isnât about you just being in a pissy mood anymore,â Briggs said with an edge to his voice that meant he was serious.
I yelled as I hit the bag hard one more time. I winced as I forced my fingers through my hair. I hadnât realized I had been breaking the skin on my knuckles. I fell back against the wall, sliding down to the floor.

âYou know Iâm here for you, bro,â my Beta said calmly. âWhatever it is, you can talk to me.â
I nodded.

âTell him.â

I winced at Keiranâs demand. But I couldnât really disagree anymore.

âI found my mate,â I admitted. I could feel Briggsâ eyes go wide in his head.

âWhat do you mean you found your mate?â he took a step closer. âPlease tell me youâre talking about Kylee.â

I shook my head. âNo. I found my fated mate.â

âWhat. The. Fu-â He had warned me about this when I first got involved with Kylee and again when we announced our mating ceremony. âWhere is she? Who is she?â

âI rejected her. Sheâs gone.â

âTheo, man, youâre really scaring me now. Why would you do that? What were you thinking?â Briggs demanded.

âSheâs Kyleeâs sister,â I snapped. Briggs tensed up.

âAyla? As in the sister that allegedly abandoned Kylee?â

His use of the word âallegedlyâ pissed me off and confused me a little. He really liked Kylee. Theyâve always gotten along. Even when he was cautioning me about finding my mate, he told me he was happy for me.

âAre you trying to say Kylee is lying?â I snapped.

He made a face. âNo, but I do think itâs foolish to reject your mate without all the information.â

âI have all the information I need.â

âNo, you have Kyleeâs side of the story,â Briggs said with a worried look.

âAnd their motherâs,â I added.

Briggs scoffed. âLook, Marie Garner is a nice enough lady, but I wouldnât exactly trust her judgment.â

âWhat are you talking about?â I asked, my own concern growing.

âBro, sheâs a lush,â Briggs said with a shrug. âNot that youâve been around enough to notice since sheâs been here. I canât tell how bad, and she seems pretty harmless. But these things often have a dark side that no one sees.â

I couldnât believe we were having this conversation. The last thing I needed was any kind of doubt in my decision.

âWhatever. It doesnât matter. Whatâs done is done. And Aylaâs reactions to all of this told me all I needed to know from her.â I pushed myself to my feet.

âWhat were her reactions?â Briggs asked cautiously, and I realized my choice of words may have given away more than I intended. I knew he wouldnât let it go unless he was sure I told him everything.

âWhich time?â I said quietly.

âExcuse me?â He heard exactly what I said. âWhat happened, Theo?â

âShe never argued or fought the rejection. She agreed and accepted it the first day we met like it was nothing. She had no response, no rebuttal, no explanation,â I told him. âYou have to be coldhearted to feel nothing after breaking a mate bond.â

âOr extremely strong,â Briggs stated. âYou said she didnât argue or fight. Did you even give her a chance to speak or even get to know anything about her before you threw her to the curb? Or did you just walk up to her and say tough words?â

I grimaced. Thatâs exactly what happened. âThere wasnât exactly an opportunity for that. Neither one of us wanted Kylee to find out.â

The muscles in his neck flexed as he tensed. âYou said âwhich time.â When did you see her again?â

âThis morning.â

âWhy?â

I could tell he was choosing his words carefully.

âKylee wanted a necklace of her motherâs that was left at their house for some appointment this week. I went back to get it.â

âOkay, someone else could have done that. Why did you go?â Briggs pushed, but the words stuck in my throat. âTheo, youâre hurting. Thereâs no way this is as cut and dry as youâre trying to say it is.â

âThe bond didnât break. Not completely.â

âGoddess, Theo. So you both have been walking around with your hearts ripped open for the past week?â Briggs said. âSo, what happened today? Why are you still on the edge of ripping half the packâs throats out?â

Images of that morning flashed through my head. The fear that something had happened to her when she hadnât been home. The jealousy and rage at finding her at another maleâs house. The way it felt when I kissed her. And sheer pain and anguish of everything that followed.

âTheo?â Briggs pressed.

âShe cut her ties to the pack,â I said solemnly. âShe turned herself rogue.â

âTheo,â Briggs bellowed, âhow could you let that happen? Why didnât you stop her?â

âShe cut herself from Dad. She used his name. There was nothing I could do. I had no way of fighting it.â I was done with this conversation. âSo none of this matters. Itâs done. Sheâs gone. Sheâs never coming back. Doing so would be a death sentence, and she knew that.â

âWhat have you done, Theo?â

âIt doesnât matter,â I yelled. âWhatever I did or didnât do, she never wanted me anyway. Sheâs not my problem anymore. So right now, Iâm going to worry about cleaning up the mess she made and figure out how to tell Kylee and Marie that theyâll never see her again. And donât you dare breathe a word about any of this to them, do you understand me?â

âOkay. Okay,â Briggs said, raising his hands in the air, trying to calm me down. âYouâre right. Thereâs nothing we can do about her now. If itâs done and over with, then itâs done and over with. Weâll move on.â

I wasnât sure he believed it, but I didnât care. Like I said, she wasnât my problem anymore.

I went back to my room. There was a knock on my room door, and Kylee poked her head in before I had a chance to answer.
âThere you are, mate,â she cooed, sitting in my lap.
She ran a hand up my chest, leaning in to kiss me. Kieranâs growl started immediately.
I still needed to let off some steam. Anything to get some relief.
I was about to respond to her when blinding pain erupted through my body. | LEARN_MORE | https://storyaholic.readlife.mobi/6p33cmijs00.html | 100972718815811 | Holic of novels | https://facebook.com/100071831618482 | 1,866 | 0 | 672,200,984,956,138 | 2024-03-26 02:00 | person_profile | eligible | 0 | 0 | NONE | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | Learn more | 0 | Holic of novels | 120207573337560731 | storyaholic.readlife.mobi | NONE | video | https://storyaholic.readlife.mobi/6p33cmijs00.html | 2024-03-26 03:25 | https://scontent-dfw5-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/434384060_796245505885178_1170066802094093497_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_s60x60&_nc_cat=110&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=x-6Vjfu-LhAAX_Vvk1A&_nc_ht=scontent-dfw5-1.xx&oh=00_AfDN5OdzyceM9DhGd_jDIVJpTaA1p4OwVWxeXv9IApJVsQ&oe=660A3AEE | person_profile | 0 | Holic of novels | https://scontent-dfw5-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/434136964_386659084233452_182183115824538931_n.jpg?_nc_cat=100&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=vkCirFglzIkAX9OkZxz&_nc_ht=scontent-dfw5-2.xx&oh=00_AfDE-NTQcoU5VuxLNGiWWtAeWzyo_E1SP4iwEt3bAzdz7Q&oe=660A2730 | 0 | 3 | Holic of novels | 0 | 0 | 2024-03-26 02:00 | View Edit Delete

And Iâll see to it that I get you back.â
âIn your dreams. You think if you shut down my business Iâll come crawling back to you? Youâre wrong. I will close down my firm or sell my business before I would ever come back to you. You think youâre so awesome. Wait till karma catches up with you.â | LEARN_MORE | https://a.read4funs.com/ad/ZmFuY3lOb3ZlbC8xMzMyNTM | 123823310705302 | ForFun-100 | https://facebook.com/100094441775812 | 84 | 1 | 785,862,302,961,531 | 2024-03-26 02:00 | person_profile | eligible | 0 | 0 | NONE | 0 | 0 | 1 | 1 | Learn more | 0 | ForFun-100 | 120209018580310361 | a.read4funs.com | NONE | video | https://a.read4funs.com/ad/ZmFuY3lOb3ZlbC8xMzMyNTMvMjAyNDAzMjYxNTQ0MDEvcGFnZQ==?adid={{ad.id}} | 2024-03-26 04:03 | https://scontent-lax3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/432046042_1146271120023551_430463604061439557_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_s60x60&_nc_cat=100&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=6SFw8ZhVcuYAX-n2vJ4&_nc_ht=scontent-lax3-2.xx&oh=00_AfBIqXnhF8UqdfS8pyhRJsG1r1dMeoTaCRFZANxFQPVeMg&oe=660A6A61 | person_profile | 0 | ForFun-100 | https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/432136425_747572347463164_3927962928606665549_n.jpg?_nc_cat=104&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=nv9Lv9IDjjUAX-aWhNP&_nc_oc=AdgvrIjdIg9bVR3Hg63SBQFbSPfogNnnfCJhQUbxiv0sNXyiQt6kHPiYj7hEU3Cymk4&_nc_ht=scontent-lax3-1.xx&oh=00_AfAlXoMb8n1tm4QQwlOcq4q38SddeIXjK0oy47LzaTmQ2g&oe=660A7F55 | 0 | 3 | ForFun-100 | 0 | 0 | 2024-03-26 02:00 | View Edit Delete

Free reading with Title "Boundless Loveâ | Sasha emerged from the law firm feeling like her legs were about to buckle.
"I'm sorry, Ms. Popperling, there's nothing we can do about your case against your fiancĂ©. It's the Cardwell family we're talking about. No one in Willemere will even touch this case with a ten-foot poleâŠ"

They reimbursed her in full. Sasha's heart sank when she saw them practically trembling in their boots.

Luther Maude, her fiancé, and Sasha had been together since their university days. She had supported him while he tried to make a name for himself as an entrepreneur. The company had finally established itself, and their wedding was just around the corner.

But now, their auditors found some irregularities with their accounts, and the prosecutor's office had arrested Luther. The company they had worked so hard for had been deregistered.

Their hard-earned happiness vanished, and the people behind it were none other than the Cardwell family.

The most powerful and influential family in Willemere, the Cardwells, could close down the entire city on a whim!

Sasha arrived at the detention center. She could finally see Luther.

Luther looked like he hadn't slept at all. He was unshaven and had lost all his former confidence and swagger.

Luther's eyes lit up when he saw Sasha, "How did it go, Sasha? What did the lawyers say?"

Sasha's smile was strained. "Don't worry. They said they would do their best to defend us."

"You're lying!" Luther screamed. "We're going against the Cardwells! No one in Willemere would dare to defend us against them!"

He had guessed it right. Sasha had no choice but to admit the truth, "⊠The lawyers gave back the money. They said we were going up against the CardwellsâŠ"

Luther cut her off, "The Cardwells are the ones trying to frame me and take over our company. You have to believe me, Sasha. I didn't commit any of the crimes they're accusing me of. Don't you know me well enough by now? How could they accuse me of money laundering?!"

Without waiting for Sasha to respond, Luther anxiously asked, "There is something I can do, but I'll need your help."

"What is it?" Asked Sasha quickly.

Luther looked Sasha in the eyes and said, "Beg Ian Cardwell. You need to beg Ian Cardwell to let me go."

Ian Cardwell. The head of the Cardwell family and the chairman and CEO of the Cardwell Group.

So what if everyone said Ian wasn't interested in women? Luther didn't believe Ian could stay unmoved when faced with someone as beautiful as Sasha.

"Will it work?" Sasha asked with confusion.

Luther was convinced it would work. He tried to convince her. "It will work. It will only work if you beg him. As long as he stops investigating, I'll get out of this place in no time, and our wedding can go ahead as planned. Sasha, my only wish in life is to give you an amazing wedding and make you the happiest woman in the world."

Sasha rubbed the engagement ring on her finger and nodded. "Okay. I'll try."

It was at Aprilâthe largest country club in Willemere.

Sasha fixed the collar of her dress. Taking a deep breath, she checked herself in the mirror to make sure she looked perfect before leaving the ladies' room.

"Why is she here? She's out here having fun while her husband is in jail."

"What do you know? She's obviously on the hunt for another man now that she knows her fiancé is not as dependable as she once thought. Look where we're at. This is a Cardwell party. And what man can compare to a Cardwell, right?"

Sasha walked past the group of gossiping women, completely ignoring them.

The party was at its peak. It took Sasha a while to find the man she had been looking for, Ian Cardwell.

Every single man at the party had at least one beautiful woman on his arm, except for Ian. He occupied an entire couch on his own.

His looks were just as she had seen in financial magazinesâbreathtaking.

Sasha took a deep breath and approached him.

"Mr. CardwellâŠ"

"Get lost."

Ian growled without even sparing a glance.

The women watching them sniggered.

"She's got some nerve trying her luck with Mr. Cardwell. Does she think she's worthy of him?"

"Mr. Cardwell is a thousand times better than her fiancĂ©. HahahaâŠ"

Sasha knew they were all laughing at her.

But she didn't care. She grabbed a bottle and downed it.

The onlookers all froze in shock.

The liquor burned her throat and made her eyes tear up.

Sasha plonked the empty bottle back onto the table. She looked at the unaffected man, "Mr. Cardwell, I'm begging you. Please spare my fiancé."

Finally, she had his attention. He looked her up and down, eventually landing on Sasha's exquisite face.

Chapter 2 I'm Not Going Anywhere

Everyone was waiting to see how Ian would react.

"Your fiancé?" Ian thought for a second but couldn't remember who she was talking about. "Who?"

He looked her right in the eyes. Sasha could feel her hair stand on end.

"Luther Maude."

"Ah⊠That guyâŠ" Ian recalled.

He uncrossed his legs. Even though he was looking up at her, Sasha felt smaller than ever before, and her knees started to buckle.

"Why should I?"

Ian remained cold and indifferent. He showed no signs of letting Luther go just because she had asked him.

Gathering her courage, Sasha met his stare and said, "I'll do anything you want as long as you let him go."

People were laughing at her.

"Do you think this is a TV show? What makes you think Ian would want whatever you offer?"

"Yeah, get lost! Stop ruining Mr. Cardwell's mood. Haven't you heard how much he hates women clinging onto him?"

Ian suddenly spoke up.

"I don't feel like drinking anymore." His emotionless eyes bore down on her. "Finish these drinks for me."

Everyone was taken aback. Mr. Cardwell was acting different from usual.

In the past, troublemakers like Sasha would have been tossed out without a second thought.

Sasha glanced down at the table where several unopened bottles of imported liquor sat.

She would end up with alcohol poisoning or gastrointestinal bleeding if she drank all of them.

Sasha thought about her fiancé, whom she had been with for seven years. She took a deep breath.

She stared at Ian defiantly, "You promise you'd let me fiancé go if I drink all these?"

"I promise." Replied Ian.

Under the shocked gaze of everyone watching, Sasha lifted a bottle and started to down them one after another.

There was a strange glint in Ian's eyes. It was as if he didn't expect her actually to do it.

Was she going to throw her life away for that man?

Ian smirked as she chugged bottle after bottle.

Sasha could handle her liquor, but this was too much for her.

Alcohol streamed down her throat, leaving shimmering trails on her fair skin.

Ian's eyes fixated on the graceful arch of her neck.

Sasha lost count of how many bottles she had drank.

People were hollering and cheering her on. Her vision started to blur.

She slumped over the table, and her hand found another bottle of liquor.

In a drunken daze, Sasha thought she saw the man stand up from the couch. Thinking he was about to leave, she lunged for his legs.

Suddenly, she was lifted off the ground.

Sasha found herself in Ian's arms. She wrapped her arms around his neck tightly, pleading:

"No! You can't go! Don't⊠Don't goâŠ" She hadn't finished all the bottles yet.

"I'm not going anywhere." His lips brushed against her ear.

The crowd stared in shock. Ian Cardwell, one of the most influential and wealthiest men in Willemere, famous for being practically allergic to women, was leaving with a drunk woman in his arms.

And that woman was betrothed to someone else.

Sasha was utterly oblivious to her surroundings, and that word of what happened had started to spread among upper society.

She was completely drunk.

Chapter 3 Break Off The Engagement

Sasha was so sore when she woke up.

She rubbed her throbbing temples and suddenly froze.

Ian Cardwell!

How did this happen?

Taking in the disbelief written all over Sasha's face, Ian nonchalantly threw off the blanket.

She watched as he wrapped a towel around his waist and pulled open the curtains.

Light flooded the room, and Sasha's disheveled appearance had nowhere to hide.

"Why?" Sasha couldn't believe what had happened. "Why did you do that to me?"

They had only agreed to her drinking!

Ian smirked. "Luther should have reached home by now."

Sasha froze. She seemed unaware of the tears streaming down her face.

Ian gripped her chin, "I did as promised, so why are you crying?"

"I didn't⊠I didn't mean to⊠YouâŠ"

Ian frowned at her. He quickly left after changing into some clothes.

Ash Fulton was waiting for him outside. He gave Ian a suggestive look, "Tsk tsk. So that's how you like your woman, huh? Out of all of them, you went from someone's wife?"

Ian snorted. "Someone's wife?"

"Of course!" Ash scoffed. "Luther must have heard of your night with Sasha by now. Their wedding was just around the corner, but it looks like it's not going to happen."

"But you know what?" Ash continued before Ian could say a word. "Luther deserves to be humiliated. He tried to get one of those model wannabees for me once, but it didn't work. You know my mom would kill me if she ever found out. I didn't think he would even use his fiancé to save himself! Hah! I can't believe anyone could love someone like him!"

After what felt like an eternity, Sasha dragged her tired body out of bed. She ran into the bathroom and stood under the scalding hot shower. She didn't come out until her fingers and toes were all wrinkled.

She couldn't wear the dress from last night. A white dress and a new set of underwear had appeared on the bed.

She knew who had left them there.

She headed straight to Luther's home after changing.

The Maude's household staff greeted her happily, "You're finally here, Ms. Popperling. Mr. Maude is finally home. Everything's alright now!"

Sasha's smile was strained. A wave of relief washed over her.

Luther was alright⊠That man had kept his promise after all.

Just then, she heard Mrs. Maude in the living room, "My son is finally home after such an ordeal. But some people seem not to care at all. She took her sweet time to get here."

A gentle voice tried to console her, "Don't be upset, Mrs. Maude. We should celebrate now that Luth is finally home."

There was a sour taste in Sasha's mouth. Dragging her feet, she made her way into the living room.

"You're here." Luther was there as well.

He sat on the couch, scanning her from head to toe.

Luther's mother never liked Sasha. She believed them sleeping together before marriage would bring misfortune.

Luther had kept his hands to himself for years, but Ian took it from him.

The guilt Sasha felt made the words catch in her throat. "I'm just glad you're okay, Luth. I⊠IâŠ" stammered Sasha.

Before she could finish her sentence, Mrs. Maude flung a cup at her. "You've ruined our reputation!"

Sasha's forehead throbbed with pain. The warmth from her blood flowed from the wound.

But she felt cold.

What did she mean? Did⊠Did they find out?

Without an ounce of emotion, Luther said, "Sasha, let's call off the engagement."

Click to READ moređđTitleïŒđ„đ„đ„Boundless Loveđ„đ„đ„ | LEARN_MORE | https://page.joyreadings.com/h5-book-share-custom4 | 102114825976458 | The novels | https://facebook.com/100085012467697 | 29,845 | 1 | 1,174,720,183,693,551 | 2024-03-26 02:00 | person_profile | eligible | 0 | 0 | NONE | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | Learn more | 0 | The novels | 120207179352830429 | page.joyreadings.com | NONE | image | https://page.joyreadings.com/h5-book-share-custom4.html?lang=en&id=6365&brand=2&app=0&ppid=2640&pid=FBW2A&campaign={{campaign.id}}&adset_id={{adset.id}}&ad_id={{ad.id}}&utm_source=FBW2A&utm_medium={{placement}}&utm_campaign={{campaign.id}}&utm_term={{adset.id}}&utm_content={{ad.id}}&ori_campaign_id=120207179331130429&ori_adset_id=120207179333140429&ori_ad_id=120207179350030429 | 2024-03-26 05:50 | https://scontent-lga3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/433009666_7913063522038294_5904654016730920571_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_s60x60&_nc_cat=111&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=WlGmABeEyOMAX8rIV3k&_nc_ht=scontent-lga3-1.xx&oh=00_AfCGDydxjpfwGcLlABo-iGmW7EOv2zZvEb6GtWOQ9-yyzA&oe=660B6D9E | person_profile | 0 | The novels | https://scontent-lga3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/433131700_404982028900442_865215467963905691_n.jpg?_nc_cat=101&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=3lZevd8GWRAAX8QEUp-&_nc_ht=scontent-lga3-2.xx&oh=00_AfDN1qiW0e0DGek7OpKSmUxvns5dk1V0quramU6wtgmm4Q&oe=660B88AC | 0 | 3 | The novels | 0 | 0 | 2024-03-26 02:00 | View Edit Delete
