Since you're no help to her in her career, all you would do is tie her down, and it's therefore ideal for you to divorce her sooner."

Frank smiled bitterly. "Is this what Helen thinks, or is that what you think?"

Gina glowered. "This is what every member of my family thinks. Henry may have arranged this marriage between you and Helen, but we've been kind to you as you freeloaded from us over the last three years. Sign this if you know what's good for you."

Frank inhaled deeply.

For three years, he utilized every connection and resources he had, helping Lane Holdings develop from a small business to a public company.

And yet, the Lanes only considered him a freeloading husband… how ironic!

Nonetheless, he said, "I can agree to the divorce, but let me see Helen first."

"My daughter doesn't have time for you," Gina snapped coolly.

"Really?" Frank chuckled. "She asked for a divorce but has no time for me?"

"Hmph." Gina snorted. "So you're still in denial about the gap between you and my daughter. You'd never understand her burden when you don't even have a proper job."

"No, I don't." Frank nodded in agreement. "But I won't sign this if I don't see her today."

Bang!

Gina slammed her hand on the table and glared at him savagely. "Know your place, Mr. Lawrence! I'm here talking to you to spare your dignity, so sign it already!"

"Haha! Spare my dignity?" Frank reared his head in laughter before suddenly narrowing his eyes at Gina. "Lane Holdings hadn't grown all that much in three years, but you've already learned how to strut."

"What—" Gina was left stumped.

"That's enough," a voice spoke from upstairs, stopping Gina before she went on another rant.

Frank turned to find Helen dressed in a black business suit as she strode down stairs toward them. With her devilish figure, fair skin, and ravishing beauty, she was a rare marvel of a woman.

"You wanted to see me?" she said as she walked up to Frank. "Now, say what you want to say."

The coldness in Frank's eyes faded as he looked at his wife. "Tell me why you want a divorce."

When they walked down the aisle three years ago, the Lanes had nothing, but he and Helen had each other's backs and were sweet on each other. Frank in turn swore he would make her family the greatest dynasty in Riverton.

However, as Lane Holdings grew their business with each passing day, Helen spent more time at the office, leading to their marriage cooling off. Even so, Frank felt both pleased and sympathetic that the young, naive maiden grew to become a strong, independent woman.

Back at the present, Helen simply avoided the question and slid a debit card toward Frank. "I understand that you have your grievance, Frank, and I've done you wrong in this matter. There's ten million in here, and you can have the downtown villa—consider it your alimony."

Frank sighed. "Even now, you're still convinced money solves everything?"

"Of course." Helen nodded. "If it's not solved, that just means you haven't thrown enough money at it."

Frank shook his head in disappointment. "Lane Holdings is worth 200 million, and that's not enough for you?"

Helen spread her arms and looked pointedly around them. "You've gotten too comfortable for too long, Frank—you're shallow and content with pocket change, which is why this manor will be where it ends. But for me, this is just the start."

"Indeed… I am shallow, but who is insightful, then?"

Frank asked, shrugging. "Is it you, or perhaps it's Sean Wesley?"

Helen was taken aback, surprised that Frank knew about Sean despite being a shut-in.

While she had grown close with Sean as of late, she only wanted to build a connection with him to further develop Lane Holdings.

She was just about to explain that to Frank, but she stopped herself and sighed instead. "Yes, he is the heir to an elite family here in Riverton, and he has great foresight. With their wealth and influence, there is no harm in an alliance with them—only profit."

Frank nodded in agreement, knowing that nothing he could say would change her mind.

His wife has changed, and there was no going back for them.

"In that case, I wish you the best of luck," Frank said.

Helen had already signed the divorce agreement, and Frank put his signature to it as well.

Then, his gaze cooled as he pushed the debit card back toward the mother and daughter duo. "You can keep this. From now on, all ties between us are cut."

"You're just putting on airs." Gina snorted and rolled her eyes, but she quickly retrieved the debit card.

On the other hand, Helen felt her eyes welling up with tears as she watched Frank leave. There was no sense of relief—only one of hollowness, as if she had lost something important.

"Mom…" Helen murmured. "I think I'm regretting this a little."

"What's there to regret? Just remember to hang out with Mr. King more," Gina rebuked her sternly. "Just you wait—our family will squeeze our way into the ranks of Riverton's elite soon enough!"

Chapter 2

As Frank strode out of Lane Manor, he turned to look at the place he lived at for three years.

He had come here all alone and now left empty-handed.

Just then, a Rolls-Royce sped toward him from a distance, stopping just beside him.

The door opened, and a middle-aged man dressed sharply in a suit alighted, grinning broadly as he jogged up to Frank. "Mr. Lawrence…"

"What are you doing here?" Frank asked as he stared at the man—he was Trevor Zurich, the CEO of Trevor International.

"I've recently partnered with your wife for a development project in West City, and I've come to discuss the details with her," Trevor admitted.

Frank nodded but said, "There's no need for a discussion—Helen now has the Wesley family's backing and doesn't need ours, and she's no longer my wife."

"What?!" Trevor exclaimed, flabbergasted. "What's going on?"

"Helen and I got divorced," Frank admitted. "From now on, there's no connection between myself and the Lanes."

Then, turning toward Trevor and gently clapping him on the shoulder, Frank said, "Thanks for your help over the last three years, brother."

While Trevor's business was mostly based abroad, he was asked to return to support the Lanes and basically earned zero profit over that period of time.

Even so, Trevor promptly bowed his head and said, "No, Mr. Lawrence—it's my honor to work in your service… that said, why would Ms. Lane suddenly divorce you? Is the Wesley boy responsible for this?"

Frowning, Trevor clapped himself on the chest and declared, "In that case, I'll personally visit Ms. Lane and talk things out with her."

Over the last three years, the only reason he partnered with Lane Holdings was because Frank asked. The Lanes were so far beneath him that they did not even deserve to lick his boots, let alone his partnership!

How shortsighted Helen was, divorcing Lawrence just because her company went public!

Nonetheless, Frank shook his head. "Forget it. Helen and I are divorced—we have nothing to do with each other now. You can go if there's nothing else."

Trevor smacked himself on the forehead as he remembered. "Actually, there's something I need to tell you. Remember the wonderroot you asked me to find? Well, I've found it, but…"

Frank wheeled on him right then, asking, "But what?"

"But it's a family heirloom of the Turnbulls. There's no way they're selling it," Trevor replied, though his tone soon changed sharply. "However, I've also caught wind that Walter Turnbull's only daughter was afflicted with a terrible illness five years ago, and she doesn't have long to live. The good news is that she's here in Riverton, and if you help her, Mr. Lawrence, the wonderroot would definitely be yours."

Frank narrowed his eyes—he really needed the wonderroot, especially after that fight at South Sea three years ago.

With his strength greatly diminished, the only way to restore himself to peak condition was through Mother Nature's greatest treasures.

As such, there was no way he could miss out on the wonderroot!

His gaze flashing sharply, Frank asked, "I take it that you've discussed the matter with the Turnbulls?

Trevor gulped, sweat appearing over his forehead as he said, "Of course—I'd never try to deceive you. Walter Turnbull himself promised the wonderroot should his daughter be treated, along with any other condition you care to state."

Frank clasped his hands behind his back and did not press the issue. "In that case, let's pay the Turnbulls a visit."

Delighted, Trevor opened the door for Frank and was just about to get in himself when a BMW sped toward them and parked in front of Lane Manor.

Peter Lane—Helen's younger brother—promptly alighted and hurried toward Trevor.

"Have you finished your discussion with my sister, Mr. Zurich?" Peter asked. "Why don't you stay a while longer?"

"Hmph." Trevor shot him a look and snorted in disdain.

He quickly got in his Rolls-Royce and left—there was no need to play nice with the Lanes now that Frank and Helen were divorced.

Naturally, his reaction left Peter, who was left wondering how he had upset Trevor, dumbfounded. He had not done a thing!

Then, he was left gaping as Trevor's Rolls-Royce sped past him, unable to believe what he had just seen.

What was Frank doing in Trevor's car?! What the hell was going on?!

-

Meanwhile, Helen was sitting in her study, glancing at her watch from time to time.

Trevor said he would be visiting just this morning, but it was already past noon!

Gina was worried too and urged her, "Maybe you should call Mr. Zurich and ask."

"No," Helen replied. "He never specified a time, so we should wait."

"But the West City project is so important," Gina complained. "You need to be more proactive here—just call him!"

While Helen frowned in thought, Gina was losing her mind. "I'll call him if you won't."

"Fine, I'll do it." Helen sighed, worried that her mother would make a mess of things.

Though she was hesitant, she made the call, and Trevor soon answered.

Even though she was talking on the phone, her expression was mild and her tone polite. "Hello, Mr. Zurich. I was just wondering what time you are coming by? I would like to be on hand to receive you."

"Actually, Ms. Lane, I'm afraid that I'm withdrawing from our partnership," Trevor replied coolly.

"Huh? What… Why?" The sudden bombshell left Helen in a daze.

"You see, I believed you to be loyal, but it seems that I've misjudged you." Trevor scoffed. "I really wouldn't dare keep characters like you around myself, so consider our partnership annulled."

And with that, he hung up, leaving Helen dumbfounded and utterly confused.

What was going on?! She had always shown Trevor due respect and never offended him. What on earth was wrong with her character?

"So? What did Mr. Zurich say?" Gina quickly asked just then.

"He's calling off our partnership," Helen murmured.

"What?!" Gina exclaimed. "Why?"

"I don't know!" Helen retorted, rubbing between her brows.

Peter rushed into the room just then, and seeing both his mother and sister, he asked, "Helen, did you finish your discussion with Mr. Zurich?"

"Discussion?! He never came at all!" Gina snapped angrily. "And he just annulled our partnership!"

Peter was left gaping. "What?! But I just saw him outside!"

"What did you say?!" Helen exclaimed in disbelief—if Trevor actually came, did that not mean that he left without coming inside the manor?! Why?!

Peter suddenly gasped as he smacked himself on the thigh. "It was Frank. That b*st*rd must have been talking to Mr. Zurich… I mean, I just saw him get into Mr. Zurich's car myself!"

"Urgh, that must be it," Gina groaned as she realized with a start. "That good-for-nothing usually looks down-to-earth, but he turns out to be so vile, messing with us before he left!"

Helen frowned but waved them off. "No. He's not the type who runs his mouth."

She more or less knew Frank after being married to him for three years, and she never once found him badmouthing anyone.

"Come on, Helen. You can never tell what lurks beneath a friendly face!" Peter exclaimed indignantly. "He's been staying under our roof for three years and knows everything about us. He would have no trouble slandering us!"

"Peter's right," Gina agreed adamantly. "Why would Mr. Zurich suddenly leave when he's already at our doorstep?"

"Yeah. He must have talked."

Helen, who had been pacing around, found that her mother's words made sense—there was no explaining Trevor's strange behavior otherwise!

Her knuckles clenched right then.

How could Frank do this?! She never mistreated him!

Chapter 3

Frank was napping in Trevor's car when his phone rang, waking him up.

Seeing that it was Helen, he answered and promptly heard her asking coldly, "Frank, are you with Mr. Zurich right now?"

Frank glanced at Trevor, who was sitting beside him. "Yeah."

Helen took a deep breath to calm her rising blood pressure—it seemed that Peter was not lying!

"You disappoint me, Frank," she growled. "If you're upset, you can tell it to my face—why backstab my family?"

Frank rubbed his temple as he replied, "Would you believe it if I told you that I didn't?"

"Then why would Mr. Zurich leave right after arriving at my doorstep?!" Helen demanded. "He also annulled our partnership!"

"Trevor's decision is his own and has nothing to do with me."

Convinced that Frank was a coward and would not admit to it, Helen was left seething and growling at every word. "You really disappoint me."

Frank's voice suddenly turned cool as well. "It seems all you care about is what you want to believe and not the actual truth. I have no idea what Peter told you nor am I willing to explain myself—just don't bother me with stuff like this ever again."

And with those words, he hung up, the veins on the back of his hand throbbing as his eyes flashed coolly.

To think that Helen never trusted him even after three years of marriage, pinning the blame on him just over mere speculation.

Perhaps she really believed that he was a freeloading shut-in too!

Beside him, Trevor could certainly tell the call was from the Lanes. He asked tentatively, "Shall I straighten them out, Mr. Lawrence?"

Frank sighed and waved him off. "Forget it. Let's just distance ourselves from them from now on."

He could not bring himself to destroy them just yet, so they could rot for all he cared.

-

Soon, Trevor's Rolls-Royce slowly entered the Turnbulls' hilltop villa.

Seemingly having been informed of their arrival, a servant was on hand to receive them, leading them to the drawing room.

After bringing them tea, he said, "Please rest your legs for a moment, gentlemen. I shall inform Mr. Turnbull of your arrival."

After the servant turned and headed upstairs, Frank looked around and muttered quietly, "There really aren't many servants around here, are there?"

"You shouldn't underestimate them, Mr. Lawrence," Trevor told him. "Walter is merely the Turnbulls' figurehead in Riverton, while the majority of their influence remains in Morhen."

"Their heiress Vicky is herself extraordinary, establishing a transnational trading conglomerate single-handedly five years ago and accumulating billions in wealth. She's also an apprentice to Riverton's governor and a prodigy of martial arts—she would be an elite among Riverton's youth if not for her illness."

Frank took a sip of his tea and chuckled. "You really think highly of her! How does she compare to Helen?"

"Haha!" Trevor laughed, not holding back since Frank and Helen were divorced anyway. "That's like comparing a wolf to a mere sheep."

Inspiration struck just then, and Trevor grinned. "By the way, Mr. Lawrence, you're a gentleman with dignity, wisdom, and compassion, while Ms. Turnbull is a ravishing beauty with wit to boot. Should you two tie the knot, it shall certainly be a profound marriage—and I, Trevor Zurich, am all too willing to be your guarantor."

"Bleurgh!" Frank almost choked on his tea and shot Trevor a glare. "Worry about yourself, not me."

Trevor scratched his head awkwardly, surprised that Frank was completely uninterested.

Just then, he heard rushed footsteps and promptly got up to greet the man approaching them. "Mr. Turnbull."

Walter held his hand in turn and asked excitedly, "Trevor, old friend… Where's this miracle healer you've spoken of?"

Trevor promptly made the introduction. "This is him—Frank Lawrence. He has been training in seclusion at the south pole, and his abilities as a healer are extraordinary."

Walter's smile stiffened when he saw how young Frank looked. "Are you joking, Trevor? He's so young!"

"I'd never lie to you, Mr. Turnbull," Trevor told him solemnly. "If Frank fails to heal your daughter too, then no one can."

While Walter was absolutely skeptical about Frank, he had no choice but to try, especially when Trevor was vouching for him.

"In that case, please come with me, Mr. Lawrence."

"Lead the way, sir," Frank said flatly, and he and Trevor followed Walter to a room on the second floor.

Inside, Frank found a young woman lying in bed.

She was exactly the ravishing beauty Trevor had described, with flawless fair skin, a clear dewy gaze, and a captivating face.

Even if she appeared sickly skinny, there was no hiding her haughty presence—it actually added to her beauty.

A woman in a black suit stood beside her bed, appearing to be her bodyguard.

Walter hurried to his daughter just then, assuring her, "Vicky, Trevor just got you a healer. He'll definitely help you this time."

"Thank you so much, Mr. Zurich." Vicky forced a smile, but she knew her condition best.

After all, she had countless consultations with other healers over the last five years… and none of them helped.

Naturally, she did not pin her hopes on Frank either. If anything, her gratitude was merely a formality.

"You're exaggerating, Ms. Turnbull." Trevor smiled and turned toward Frank. "She's in your hands now, Mr. Lawrence."

Frank nodded, perfectly comfortable as he walked up to hold Vicky's wrist.

Vicky did a double take, surprised that he was so young, and watched as Frank's brow wrinkled and eased intermittently.

After a while, he asked, "Do you frequently engage in martial arts, Ms. Turnbull?"

"I've trained a little with my mentor, mostly for my health," Vicky replied softly.

"To what extent?"

Vicky frowned slightly. "Initiate—why are you asking about that instead of my condition?"

Frank smiled conditionally in turn. "Because your martial arts training caused your condition."

"What?!" Everyone exclaimed in shock—martial arts could lead to such an illness?!

"Bullshit!" Yara Quill—the black-clad bodyguard standing beside Vicky's bed—snapped right then. "Vicky was learning the Boltsmacker, a technique passed down in my clan for generations! If that caused her illness, why would my father be fine?"

"Not everyone is attuned to martial arts," Frank said flatly. "The technique you speak of is conditioned for men and incompatible for women. Vicky's Ki would stagnate, causing vein and nerve blockage—moreover, she has already reached Initiate. While it is an accomplishment, she is lucky to only be bedridden. In serious cases, her physique would crumble as she loses all her Ki, while her veins would rupture and potentially kill her."

Turning around to look at Yara just then, he added, "You should stop too. You'd be paralyzed in three years, give or take, if you continue."

"Shut up!" Yara swung a palm at Frank's face right then!

Vicky was like a sister to her—they trained under her father together, and she was constantly by Vicky's side ever since Vicky got sick.

Yara was certainly convinced that Frank was driving a wedge between them and obviously telling her that her clan's technique was a sham.

She must straighten him out to quell the spite she felt!

"Stop!" Trevor exclaimed as he paled in shock—he had never expected Vicky's bodyguard to actually attack Frank!

However, it was not as if he was worried about Frank. Instead, he was just concerned for the ignorant brat!

Chapter 4

Pow! Pow! Pow!

The air in the room cracked.

Yara struck with power and determination, exchanging over a dozen blows with Frank in no time at all.

The latter had no intention to hurt, however, merely doing enough to defend himself.

Even if he was not in peak condition, Yara was never going to best him.

"Stop it, Yara," Vicky snapped from the bed just then.

Yara did as she was told, though she was also giving Vicky a wounded look. "That brat…"

"That's enough," Vicky said flatly. "Show some manners—Mr. Lawrence is here to help me."

In reality, Vicky was upset with Frank as well, since Yara's father was her mentor.

However, as the heiress to her family legacy and herself a martial arts prodigy, she should stay calm at all times.

Moreover, she could immediately tell that Frank's abilities were outstanding when he exchanged blows with Yara, and that he was clearly holding back.

That was why she told Yara to stop—Yara would definitely lose if he went all out.

Naturally, Yara would not disobey Vicky, and she quietly backed away.

Vicky then turned toward Frank and asked, "Since you've stated the cause of my condition, Mr. Lawrence, what treatment are you suggesting?"

Walter and Trevor turned as well, only to find Frank lowering his head, stroking his chin in thought and frowning.

"Mr. Lawrence, could there be some difficulty?" Trevor asked gingerly.

"No, it's a minor condition that can be treated quickly," Franks replied as he slowly looked up and turned to Vicky. "I didn't expect the technique you learned to be so rubbish. You can walk again, but all your progress would be lost… That said, I've already perfected that technique, so just train in the way I instruct you to and you'll be in peak form within the year."

Yara's knuckles clenched as she glared at Frank. "Even if it's rubbish, you were powerless against my clan's technique."

Even Trevor was left feeling awkward—Frank was being too frank! He could at least spare the heiress of Boltsmacker some dignity because she was standing right there!

Nonetheless, Frank turned toward Yara and said bluntly, "I'm only showing this once. Watch closely."

As he directed his Ki with both hands, his clothes began to flap loudly.

Boom.

Frank took a step forward and suddenly shot toward Yara like a bullet!

Yara smiled—he was the one attacking. She never forced him!

She charged her palm with Bolstmacker, meeting Frank's attack instantly!

"Don't hurt him, Yara!" Walter cried.

"Please hold back, Mr. Lawrence!" Trevor exclaimed at the same time.

At the same time, Vicky was staring fixedly at Frank, her mouth hanging wide open. "I-Is that Boltsmacker?!"

There was no mistaking it when she practiced it for over a decade. Frank actually used a secret technique of the Quills—but when did he learn it?!

And as she observed him, she could see that he was clearly wielding it over a thousand times more effectively than Yara!

Pow.

On the other hand, Yara's face fell as she felt the agony in her arm when she caught Frank's palm.

It was like a tidal wave with the crushing force of a mountain, and it seemed endless—Yara was sent flying and crashing into the wall behind!

Bang!

Her cheeks left flushed as her Ki flared, while she almost vomited her guts out.

Walter was left turning slowly toward Trevor with a look that seemed to ask what on earth Frank was.

Trevor certainly noted Walter's confusion, but he had no idea what to say in reply either.

Still, he wiped the sweat from his brow and heaved a long sigh of relief, thankful that Frank held back. If he actually hurt Yara, there was definitely going to be a serious grudge after!

As Yara leaned against the wall with a look of shock and confusion, she snapped, "W-When did you steal my clan's technique?"

"When you used it just now," Frank replied nonchalantly.

Vicky was left gasping—all it took was one look?

And he improved it in no time at all!

That acumen for martial arts was exponentially above hers!

On the other hand, Yara could almost black out.

It took Vicky a year, and herself five years to learn the Boltsmacker, only for this brat to learn it in an instant?!

Talk about frustrating!

"Hahaha!" Walter suddenly laughed.

He was no martial artist, but even he could see how easily Frank bested Yara.

And seeing that Frank was no average Joe, he was no longer holding contempt like he did when Frank first arrived.

"You're as amazing a healer as you are a martial artist, Mr. Lawrence! See, Yara? You never know a man until you've exchanged blows, but that can wait for now… Is Vicky's condition treatable right now, Mr. Lawrence?"

"I would need acupuncture needles to clear Ms. Turnbull's veins," Frank replied.

"Not a problem—we have every medical equipment possibly needed." Walter smiled and promptly told a servant to fetch it.

After Frank got the box, he said, "Now please undress, Ms. Turnbull."

"What?" Vicky's expression stiffened in shock.

"H-Hold on," Walter quickly butted in as well. "Why? Is this necessary?"

"I need to reanimate Ms. Turnbull's Ki with at least forty-nine needles," Frank explained. "That can't be done with her clothes on."

Walter frowned. "Is there no other way?"

"I can extract her stagnated Ki, but it won't disperse with her clothes on," Frank replied, shaking his head. "It might ultimately flow back into her body, making the entire treatment pointless."

"Walter, Mr. Lawrence is helping Ms. Turnbull here," Trevor reasoned. "As a healer, he won't do anything out of line."

"Yes." Walter agreed but remained hesitant nonetheless. "But Vicky's engaged…"

"That's enough," Vicky snapped, frowning. "Treatment has nothing to do with engagements."

She especially hated it when her father mentioned the engagement, and she had been working hard to free herself from that. If anything, her family and her father's attempts to indoctrinate her about the boons of a strategic marriage only made her even more resistant.

And right now, she wanted to recover as soon as possible instead of staying bedridden or allowing someone else to dictate her life.

"I'm counting on you, Mr. Lawrence," she said and turned to Yara. "Help me get changed."

Walter did not press the issue, knowing that she was upset. Sighing, he quietly led Trevor out of the room.

Yara walked up to Vicky in turn, slowly lifting her blanket—Vicky's thin white silk pajamas barely hid her perfect figure.

After Yara undressed her and Vicky lay naked before Frank, his pupils dilated.

He could not help being impressed by her perfect body, and even if he had seen plenty himself, he could not help ogling…

Chapter 5

"Are you done staring?" Yara could not help snapping at Frank, certainly able to see that he was staring fixedly at Vicky.

Even if Frank proved his martial arts prowess, she suspected that he was taking advantage of Vicky, claiming that undressing her was for treatment.

Frank smiled, showing no sign of embarrassment as he said earnestly, "I couldn't help staring just then. Ms. Turnbull is just that mesmerizing."

"Haha." Vicky laughed. "Honest, aren't you?"

She was actually surprised that Frank would admit to it so boldly, unlike self-proclaimed gentlemen who would never admit to their actions.

Suddenly flashing a vague smile at Frank, she added, "You can look as much as you want if you heal me."

"You don't have to. Beautiful things are unforgettable from the very first gaze," Frank said, shaking his head.

Taking out a needle, his fingers brushed over the smooth skin on her chest, feeling a cool sensation just then.

Vicky gasped and shuddered as he inserted the needle just above her nape.

Then, he took out another needle, brushing past her belly and inserting it beneath her navel.

This continued over the next thirty or so needles, each leaving Vicky reeling with agony.

Her fingers clenched on the sheets as she sweated bullets over her forehead, her chest heaving as her breathing turned ragged.

Frank certainly noticed that through the corner of his eye.

Even though he was married to Helen for three years and lived together, they never consummated.

Moreover, he was in his prime, so he could not help being restless seeing such a ravishing beauty lying naked before him.

Biting his tongue, he dispelled those thoughts with the pain and kept working.

Beside them, Yara kept wiping Vicky's sweat with a towel.

After a long while, Vicky finally asked through gritted teeth, "How much longer?"

"This is the last one."

Vicky breathed a sigh of relief—the pain was finally going to be over. "In that case, please hurry."

Frank nodded and used his fingers to measure the distance to a spot beneath her navel…

Noticing that something was out of place, Vicky quickly asked, "Where will the last needle be inserted?"

"Five inches beneath the navel."

Vicky froze, her fair cheeks flushing just then. Five inches beneath the navel, was that not…?!

Though she had been educated with the teachings of multiple cultures, she was conservative in nature—if anything, she was at her limit when Frank asked her to undress to be treated.

She was certainly embarrassed that a needle would be inserted on her crotch!

On the other hand, Frank did not care—he had seen everything, so there was nothing out of line now.

In fact, he inserted the needle before Vicky realized it, and she felt a burst of agony extending across her body. She clenched her teeth and closed her eyes, stiffening like a bowstring as all her internal energies faded right then.

She withstood the pain using her embarrassment and stopped herself from making a sound.

Frank was actually surprised to find her showing such incredible endurance—it would hurt when one's Ki was broken up. She was definitely a martial arts prodigy, able to stop herself from making a sound.

Nearby, Yara was beside herself with worry, seeing her face contorting. "Are you alright, Vicky?"

"Urgh… I'm fine," Vicky breathed vapors as the pain faded.

Even if the physique she honed over a decade had been lost, she felt like all her veins were cleared and finally felt her limbs again.

And with Frank's improved version of the Boltsmacker, she would have no trouble regaining her peak form in a year!

Yara looked on as Vicky raised her hands, exclaiming excitedly, "Do you feel better, Ms. Turnbull?"

"Yeah," Vicky replied, her eyes warm with excitement.

It felt amazing to take back control over her own body!

She slowly turned toward Frank. "Your abilities as a healer are extraordinary, Mr. Lawrence."

"I too marvel at your endurance," Frank replied.

Vicky smiled but asked hesitantly, "Actually… Do you mind leaving the room?"

Frank finally remembered that Vicky was still naked, and he had no reason to stay now that she was better.

He turned and left, heading to the drawing room.

Walter and Trevor, who were waiting for a while, were delighted to see him.

"How's Ms. Turnbull?" Trevor quickly asked.

"She's fine now," Frank replied.

"Really?" Walter asked in disbelief.

That was when Vicky arrived downstairs after changing into fresh clothes.

Seeing that she was no longer bedridden, Walter's eyes went red, and he promptly gathered her in his arms.

"You've really recovered, Vicky… Thank goodness!" he cried. "This is wonderful!"

"Dad, I'm fine—don't worry." Vicky smiled. "All thanks to Mr. Lawrence."

"Haha!" Walter laughed heartily as he turned toward Frank. "Don't worry, Mr. Lawrence—Trevor told me about the wonderroot. I've already asked for it to be delivered from the capital, and you'll have it in three days."

Frank frowned, but before he could say anything, Trevor walked up to him and whispered under his breath, "Don't worry, Mr. Lawrence. I promise with my life that the Turnbulls would not renege on their promise."

Noting his confidence, Frank's frown ease. "Since Trevor here vouches for you, I shall take your word for it. Since your daughter has made a full recovery, we shan't impose."

With that, he turned to leave, leaving Vicky surprised.

An accomplished martial artist and an outstanding healer?! They should definitely be keeping him!

"Please wait, Mr. Lawrence. Allow me to walk with you and thank you properly," she said and promptly gave chase with Yara in tow.

Beside them, Trevor was grinning—she certainly had a keen eye as one would expect of the heiress apparent of the Turnbulls.

"So, Walter. What do you think of Mr. Lawrence?" he asked.

Walter nodded and exclaimed in awe, "He's gifted in both martial arts and medicine… Those two talents alone would set him apart even from the many bigwigs in the capital."

Trevor chuckled. "I won't lie to you—that's not all of his talents. There won't be a handful who would compare to him even across the country, just as there are hardly any ladies who deserve him. Still, I'm sure your daughter would be one of them."

Walter smiled as he realized what Trevor was saying. "You flatter me, but my daughter is engaged."

"Haha!" Trevor simply laughed. "But she still isn't wed yet. You still have time to reconsider, and do keep Mr. Lawrence in mind when you do."

Walter suddenly frowned and turned toward Trevor. "I'm actually curious… you used to work abroad. Why have you been lingering in Riverton for years now? And you seemed to defer to Mr. Lawrence a whole lot…"

In the end, any strategic marriage ought to be set between two important families.

Even if Frank was an extraordinary individual, he has no clans backing him and therefore would not mean much to the Turnbulls.

Trevor should know as he was the heir of the Zurichs, and it was actually weird that he would vouch for Frank so enthusiastically.

"Haha. I'm afraid I can't comment on that, Walter." Trevor shrugged. "But you should really think about what I said. Also, I shall get going now that our business here is done. Please hurry and bring Mr. Lawrence the wonderroot."

Walter was left mulling Trevor's words after he left, and he promptly called in his secretary to do a background check on Frank.

Chapter 6

A Rolls-Royce stopped beside Frank just as he stepped outside the Turnbulls' villa.

Vicky alighted, asking, "Where are you staying, Mr. Lawrence? May I offer you a ride?"

Frank thought about it and sighed. "I was just planning to stay at a hotel."

He did not own any house in Riverton, and he could not return to Lane Manor after his divorce with Helen.

"Oh…" Vicky did a double take but did not press the issue. "Then you're in luck—we have over fifty hotels in Riverton. Allow me to arrange for a suite, so I can deliver you the wonderroot when it arrives."

Frank thought about it and nodded. "Sure."

He got into the backseat with Vicky while Yara drove, though she stopped at the gates.

"What's wrong?" Vicky asked.

"There's a car stopped ahead, and I don't know what for," Yara complained.

Frank peered out of the car window and noticed a man weaning a suit standing by the security booth.

"Please inform Mr. Turnbull of my arrival. Tell him that it's Sean Wesley—my family owns a major business in Riverton."

With those words, he whipped out a stack of hundred dollar bills and handed it to the security guard.

The security guard promptly nodded gratefully. "Yes, please wait a moment. I'll inform Mr. Turnbull right away."

Frank narrowed his eyes when he heard Sean's name and studied the man just as Yara said, "It seems he's here to see Mr. Turnbull."

"Ignore them," Vicky said flatly.

Outside, Sean was soon back in his car—the security guard allowed him to drive inside, as Walter clearly gave his permission.

There was a pretty face riding shotgun in his car—it was Helen.

"Don't worry," Sean assured her confidently. "I heard that Walter Turnbull's daughter is bedridden, and I brought along a 100 year-old panacea cap for her. With something so divine, he'll definitely help you secure that development project at the west side of the city."

Helen breathed a sigh of relief, overwhelmed with gratitude toward Sean. "Thank you so much for this, Mr. Wesley."

She had been depressed after Trevor called off their partnership and was naturally surprised that Sean was willing to help her build another with the Turnbulls.

He even bought a panacea cap along, so she could present it as her gift—he was certainly a great help!

"Oh, it's nothing, Helen," Sean said smugly. "We're friends, aren't we? We have each other's backs."

Helen was tearing up from emotion—Sean was certainly proving himself to be a real friend with all his prowess, especially with the way he always came to her aid whenever she needed help.

In contrast, her ex-husband certainly dulled in comparison. Perhaps letting her mother force Frank to divorce her was a smart choice.

Meanwhile, Sean did not waste time hurrying inside the villa, though Helen glanced outside just as their car passed another.

She did a double take, since the man sitting at the backseat looked so much like Frank!

"What?" Sean promptly asked.

"I think that was Frank in that car just now," Helen said quietly.

"Hahaha!" Sean guffawed. "This is Balmung Hill's mansion zone, and everyone living here is either rich or powerful. What would your useless ex-husband be doing here?"

Helen peered outside the car again, but she totally agreed with Sean.

Moreover, she only looked outside and did not see the man's face clearly. Maybe it was just a slight resemblance…

-

Meanwhile, Yara drove straight toward Verdant Hotel, which was the grandest hotel in Riverton.

There were eighteen floors spanning over 2,000 square meters, and two lion statues grandly adorned the front entrance.

Vicky personally opened the door for Frank and led him to the front desk, booking the penthouse suite for him for a year.

"That's too much," Frank exclaimed in surprise. "I'll just be staying a few days."

Vicky waved him off nonchalantly. "No worries, Mr. Lawrence. It's exclusively for friends, and you can drop by whenever you like even if you find other places to stay. The hotel can cater to your needs as well—food, entertainment, even sports."

Frank nodded. He could see that he could have anything he wanted here the instant he stepped inside, what with the spacious lobby decorated with such stateliness.

After Vicky got him a room, she handed him the room card along with a gold card.

"This is a gold card, applicable to all Turnbull businesses. You can make any purchases you desire with this."

"Is that exclusively for friends too?" Frank smiled as he stared at it.

Vicky smiled as well. "No, it's for important associates of my family."

"You really give me too much credit." Frank chuckled self-deprecatingly.

Oh, the irony…

Helen never gave him a thing in their three-year marriage.

On the other hand, it had barely been a day since he met Vicky, but she had already given him a gold card.

"Not really. I simply consider you a friend." Vicky grinned. "And I hope you'd consider me a friend in turn."

Her eyes narrowed as she smiled, and certainly no one could read the thoughts behind it.

Frank slipped the card into his pocket in turn, wordlessly approving her request.

Before he could speak, however, someone yelled at him, "Frank Lawrence! You b*st*rd!"

Frank turned to find Peter Lane standing there with a woman wearing thick makeup.

Peter was planning to 'take a break' with his new girlfriend at the hotel, but he was furious to see Frank the instant he stepped inside.

Ignoring the stares from the others around them, he strode up to Frank, pointing his finger at Frank's nose as he snapped, "You were badmouthing my sister, weren't you?! You told Mr. Zurich to call off her partnership with my sister!"

Frank shot him a cool look. "Trevor simply saw your family's true nature."

"Shut up! I'm beating you to a pulp right now!" Peter screamed.

Before he could move, however, Vicky moved to stand between them, her brow furrowed as she said sternly, "You are in the Verdant Hotel, sir. Please be mindful of your behavior."

She had no idea what the grudge between the two men were, but she was staunchly on Frank's side.

As for Peter, he appeared taken aback as he studied Vicky, completely bewitched by her beauty.

He had been philandering a lot ever since his family struck it rich.

Even so, this was the first time he saw a woman as beautiful as her!

Still, just because Vicky came in a hurry and was dressed in a business suit, he presumed her to be the lobby manager and possibly a woman who slept her way to the top.

He promptly whipped out a few hundred dollar bills and stuffed them into Vicky's hand, whispering, "This has nothing to do with you. Also, I'll talk to you later."

Vicky pursed his lips—that was totally disrespectful of him!

She flung the money back at his face and snapped, "Mr. Lawrence is my friend, so take your money and leave right now. We don't accept boneheads like you."

However, her outburst only left Peter further convinced that she was the lobby manager.

His gaze darting between Vicky and Peter, he then realized something with a start!

"Well done, Frank! So you got yourself a b*tch on the side already," he snapped, his eyes flashing viciously as he pointed between the both of them. "That's why you agreed to divorcing my sister so easily!"

Frank's eyes narrowed as he growled coolly, "Watch your words, Peter. I won't hold this against you, seeing that you're Helen's brother. Now, leave."

Chapter 7

Peter was not afraid at all and poised a fist as he snapped, "A good-for-nothing like you talking back to me?! I'll straighten you out for my sister's sake right now!"

That was when Frank suddenly kicked him in the gut, sending him flying like a bullet.

"Argh!" Peter's girlfriend turned pale in panic and scrambled to his side. "Are you alright, darling?!"

Nearby, Vicky was smiling coolly.

Trying to lay a finger on Frank? The brat certainly was brave.

That being said, she was more curious about the 'Helen' Frank mentioned.

"Damn you…" Peter's face contorted from the agony in his stomach—it felt like his guts would spill out!

Glaring darkly at Frank, he growled, "H-How dare you hit me!"

Frank remained calm and composed. "I won't press the issue for your sister's sake. But now that I've cut ties with your family, I'll kill you the next time you mess with me."

Peter actually flinched from the murderous intent in Frank's eyes and swallowed all the obscenities at the tip of his tongue.

Instead, he wheeled on Vicky and snapped, "What are you doing?! I'm a guest here, and that man hit me! Aren't you the lobby manager?! Do something!"

Vicky did a double take and soon shook her head exasperatedly.

So she looked like a lobby manager to him?

In that case, she could play that game one time.

Beckoning at the security guards, she said, "Get him out of here."

"What are you doing?! Let me go! I'm from the Lane family!" Peter screamed hysterically. "This isn't over yet! Just you wait!"

"The Lane family? Hadn't heard. Even your grandpa would have to be watching his manners around my presence," Vicky scoffed in disdain. "And you're certainly nothing to me. Throw him out."

With that, the two security guards promptly threw Peter out of the entrance like he was a bag of rubbish, leaving him falling flat on his face.

"If he comes to cause trouble again, you have my permission to get physical," Vicky told the staff before turning to Frank. "Apologies, Mr. Lawrence. You have my word that this will never happen again."

Frank shook his head. "No, this wasn't your fault."

Vicky smiled and nodded. "Shall we go to your room?"

She led him to the elevator and escorted him to his penthouse suite, and she left with Yara after getting his contact details.

Frank went to stand before the glass wall overlooking Riverton.

While he did not expect to divorce Helen after three years, he had accomplished his mentor's bidding.

And now, it was time to fulfill his own plans.

Just then, Frank's phone started ringing, and he whipped it out to see that it was a call from Henry Lane, the head of the Lane family.

He hesitated to answer, unsure if Henry was aware of his divorce with Helen.

He eventually answered, however—regardless of how the other Lanes would belittle him, Henry still considered him his grandson-in-law.

"Hello, Gramps. How's it going?" Frank asked.

"Hey, Frankie!" Henry exclaimed cheerfully from the other end. "Where are you right now?"

"Me…? I'm out running an errand at the moment. Is something the matter?" Frank asked in return.

He could tell from Henry's tone that he did not know about the divorce, so he did not mention it.

"I see… You and Helen should come by my place this evening. I have good news!" Henry said excitedly.

Frank's heart skipped a beat. "Actually, Helen's really busy lately," he said gingerly. "How about another day?"

"Oh, she's never busy," Henry laughed. "I'll call her myself later. I doubt she'd say no—just come by when you're done with your errand."

Frank took a deep breath and nodded. "Yeah. I'll be there when I'm done."

He would tell Henry tonight when Helen arrived!

-

Meanwhile, Helen and Sean finally got to meet Walter, with Sean promptly fawning all over the man in the drawing room.

As soon as he thought he set the right mood, he explained the purpose of his visit, "Mr. Turnbull… You see, a friend of mine has told me that your daughter had been stricken with a terrible condition, and I therefore spent a fortune to buy a 100-year old panacea cap to treat her."

Catching her cue, Helen promptly took out the velvet box and placed it solemnly before Walter.

She slowly opened it, and the fragrant aroma from the panacea cap promptly spilled out.

Even the luster and texture made it clear that it was not your average herb.

Be that as it may, Walter merely nodded calmly.

He would have been beside himself with joy before, but now that his daughter had recovered, the panacea cap was inconsequential.

Moreover, it was clear that Sean had a reason to visit him and bring that woman with him.

Naturally, Sean stiffened from his reaction as he noticed that Walter was not particularly interested in the panacea cap!

On the other hand, Helen was too nervous to talk at all—she was just too scared to mess up in the presence of one of Riverton's bigwigs.

Still, Walter refused to keep wasting his time with them and asked bluntly, "Thank you for your concern, Ms. Lane. How shall I repay you, I wonder?"

Helen promptly threw up her hands. "I only wish to help. I'd never ask for anything in return."

Walter smiled. "Please, don't be shy. You may speak freely."

Sean chuckled heartily right then. "Thank you for your understanding, Mr. Turnbull. You see, Helen learned that your family will be leading a development project west of the city, and Lane Holdings is just hoping to secure a partnership."

Walter was inwardly disdainful—he had not even heard of Lane Holdings!

Did they even have what it took to take up that project?

Still, he remained neutral as he said, "Does Lane Holdings have the experience for the project?'

Helen appeared delighted at the question. "Of course. Our company has been working with Zurich International for three years now."

Walter was actually astounded—the woman's company had a partnership with Trevor's?

Who on earth was she? One of Trevor's people, perhaps?!

It was only natural for Walter to show some respect at this point—his daughter would still be bedridden if not for Trevor.

After some thought, he said, "Why don't we discuss this further tomorrow? There will be a banquet at Verdant Hotel and I'd be happy if you could attend as well, Ms. Lane."

"Thank you, Mr. Turnbull." Helen was beside herself with joy—Walter was clearly approving of her!

With that, the three made some small talk, and it was evening by the time Helen and Sean left Turnbull Villa.

Helen could hardly hide her excitement, however, and was thanking Sean profusely. "Thank you so much, Mr. Wesley. I don't think Mr. Turnbull would have been interested in Lane Holdings at all if you hadn't bought that panacea cap."

"You're exaggerating, Helen. Mr. Turnbull appreciates you because you showed grit," Sean replied humbly without really meaning it. "It's late now, and I've booked a place for us at Riverton Tower. How does dinner and a movie sound?"

Helen was immediately hesitant.

Dinner and a movie? And just the two of them?

That was pretty much a date!

She had just divorced Frank and was not planning to start a relationship just yet…

That was when her phone started ringing, and Helen promptly answered.

"Hello, Grandpa… Oh? Sure, okay."

Helen was a little happy even as she hung up. "I'm sorry, Mr. Wesley, but my grandfather is asking for me tonight—he said it's important, so I should go. I'll take a rain check on that dinner."

Chapter 8

Frank took a taxi to Laneville in the evening and was surprised to find Gina waiting for a while at the door.

Seeing him arrive, she promptly strode up to him and warned, "I take it you know what to say and what not to when you see the old man later."

Frank chuckled. "You really should chase me away instead if you're that worried."

"What?!" Gina glared at him, shocked that he would speak in that tone with her.

Nonetheless, Frank ignored her and strode inside.

After all, he had no reason to play nice with the rest of the Lane family now that he and Helen were divorced!

As soon as he entered, he found Henry standing there with an apron, having cooked up a storm.

"What's the occasion, sir? That's a lot of food," he said.

Henry was smiling when he saw Frank and walked up to grasp his hand. "Oh, you're here, Frankie—you'll find out soon enough."

As the pair sat down and made pleasant small talk, Gina stared fixedly at Frank, fearful that he would say what he should not.

Helen arrived soon enough and saw Frank as she had expected.

Henry was the one who arranged her marriage with Frank, so he naturally valued it greatly.

It was precisely why Helen did not tell him about her divorce.

Walking right up to Frank, she asked, "Where have you been this afternoon?"

Frank shrugged. "I have no reason to tell you, do I?"

Helen snorted, greatly upset by his attitude. "Fine, keep your secrets. I'm not bothered."

Turning toward Henry, he asked, "What's so important, Grandpa?"

Seeing that everyone was there, Henry chuckled heartily. "I just met an old comrade, and he told me that his granddaughter is working at Flora Hall. I thought it's the perfect timing to arrange for a job for Frank, and she agreed to it!"

"No," Gina snapped as soon as Henry was finished.

Frank was no longer family—why should they get him a job?

That good-for-nothing could die for all she cared!

"What?" Henry was left perplexed. "But Frank's jobless. He can't just stick to cooking and doing the laundry for Helen, can he?"

"Actually, Grandpa," Helen said just then, "I can just arrange a job for Frank at the company. You don't have to worry."

Still, Gina frowned as she pointed out, "Peter doesn't have a job either. You should worry about him more."

"Hah! I would if he doesn't goof off every other day." Henry snorted. "All he does is embarrass me… And where is he now? Why isn't he back yet?"

"Oh, he'll be here soon," Gina shrugged noncommittally. "What's the hurry?"

Bang!

The front door slammed open loudly, and they all saw Peter storming in furiously.

Seeing that Frank was there as well, he bellowed, "You b*st*rd! How dare you show your face here?! I'll kill you!"

Peter picked up a chair, ready to swing it at Frank's head!

Helen was left utterly bewildered—what had gotten into him?!

"Stop!" Henry bellowed at Peter as he promptly sprang to his feet, "You wretch! How dare you try to hit your brother-in-law?! Show some respect!"

"Brother-in-law?! Him?!" Peter snapped in disdain. "I saw him at Verdant Hotel, about to check in with some whore. I tried to stop him and he kicked me! My stomach still hurts even now!"

"What?!"

Everyone was stunned, with Gina promptly leaping up to snap at Frank, "Amazing! And here I thought you had it together, but you actually had a woman on the side!"

"I-Is that even possible?" Henry was left staring at Frank in disbelief—he knew Frank well enough to know that he was not the type who messed around!

"Why not? I saw that myself," Peter bellowed, his veins bulging over his neck.

Helen frowned and turned to level a cool glare at Frank. "Is that true?"

Frank simply smiled. "So you'd rather believe him than find out for yourself?"

He was certainly disappointed—she could deny his loyalty to her over the last three years just because of what Peter said.

He would not have felt that hurt if she had gone to the hotel to ask who that woman was or at least doubted Peter!

"I'm asking you a question," Helen coolly replied.

"Fine," Frank replied calmly. "I kicked your brother, and I was with a woman at the time."

Helen inhaled sharply—she never thought that Frank would be with another woman!

Even if they were divorced, she did not expect him to get on the rebound so soon.

He must have had an affair for a while now.

"Frank, you really disappoint me."

"Really? I do?" Frank smiled bitterly. "Then what about you and Sean Wesley? At least I'm innocent compared to you two."

When he was her husband, she kept going out with Sean frequently—had she ever considered his feelings?

"I never did anything with Sean!" Helen screamed on top of her lungs. "You're the one who went to a hotel with another woman!"

"Enough!" Henry suddenly bellowed, and everyone quieted down.

He certainly understood that there was now a rift between Helen and Frank, and he had to do something or their marriage would be ruined.

Looking between them, he said, "If you still consider me your grandfather, both of you must stop getting involved with such affairs and move in here with me."

Helen simply shrugged. "That's unnecessary, Grandfather. We're already divorced."

"What?!"

Henry froze as if thunderstruck before turning toward Frank. "Is that true?"

Frank nodded quietly—he did not want Henry to find out, but it was clearly pointless hiding it now.

"Oh…" Henry groaned and shook his head in clear disappointment.

"Please take care of yourself, Gramps. I'll visit when I can," Frank said and turned to leave—there was no point in pretending now that the truth was out.

"Did I say you can leave?!" Peter yelled—he had yet to settle the grudge of being kicked!

Smack!

Henry suddenly slapped Peter across the face and snapped, "Just leave already."

"Why did you hit me, Grandpa?!" Peter cried unhappily.

However, Henry completely ignored him and ran up to Frank, holding his arm and pleading, "Please, Frank. Give Helen another chance—give my family another chance!"

"What are you doing, Grandpa?" Helen was certainly puzzled.

Beside her, Gina folded his arms and snorted. "Gotten senile already?"

Without Frank, their family would only rise to new heights! Developed in the lab of a leading longevity researcher at the Buck Aging Research Institute in California, GLYLO is the first of its kind. It helps you reduce insulin resistance and fatigue along with reversing the effects of menopause and aging, improving glucose metabolism, lower blood sugar, & your appetite, and also increase your physical endurance. But what exactly is glycation, and why is it important? Simply put, glycation is a process that occurs when sugar molecules bind to proteins or fats in our body, leading to the formation of Advanced Glycation Endproducts (AGES). These AGES are toxic byproducts that contribute to a range of age-related diseases, as well as increased blood sugar and body weight along with reduced energy. You may have noticed glycation in action when you cook - think of the browning of bread or caramelization of milk. Unfortunately, this same process takes place in our bodies as we age and when we have high blood sugar. Glylo helps combat that. Don't miss out on the chance to take control of your health and wellness. Head over to the link below or go to https://juvifyhealth.com/pages/glylo today to learn more about Glylo and how it can help you! #glylo #juvify #supplements #fasting #glycation #sugar #intermittent fasting #fasting https://juvifyhealth.com/pages/glylo 2024-03-25 01:09 https://scontent-dfw5-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/434423377_7243356202436081_7527512240947746775_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_s60x60&_nc_cat=103&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=J7fY4a_rYQ4AX_Lxr8Z&_nc_ht=scontent-dfw5-1.xx&oh=00_AfCgaPAXI4UR0FBWIAX8Hv1rPdZ6QfMB0YsHc1u6hVw-_Q&oe=66095EB5 person_profile 0 0 3 Juvify 0 0 2024-03-25 02:00 View Edit

He fouled off a hard-hit ball on his right chin. The seams of the ball were still embedded in his skin! We came to the office and Dr. Shores injected ozone in three places on the much tender spot. The next morning was incredible. The swelling and pain and marks were completely gone! My son he wants this every time he abstains an injury. My husband, who played minor league baseball and had permanent damage to his chin, said he wished that was around when he played ball. We are sold on the ozone for both total body as well as specific placing in the body. It truly was amazing." - Shannon M.

+ 20 5 Star Reviews ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"I’ve known Dr. Shores since 2013. Yes 2024-03-27 22:52 active 362 0 861446445739793 🔥🔥 Click to Read 👉🏻👉🏻 【He won't be coming home tonight, he's too busy sleeping with me. A full year of passion, something you and him will never have.】
A picture of some random bimbo with blonde hair and a stupid smirk was cuddling up next to my boyfriend who was half undressed and sleeping.
Long forgetting his girlfriend who was at home like a fool, waiting for her boyfriend to show up so they could celebrate their four years together.
And that was the day I found out my boyfriend of four years was cheating on me for the last year of our relationship.
————————
With every picture I burned, memories of him were vanishing along with my love for him. Everything was finally coming to pieces. All the trips he took, all those long nights at work, all those rejections were part of his lies. Just a cover up for where he truly was, sleeping around with some cheap woman. All while I was at home waiting for him and giving him my love. As the pictures burned my hatred for him grew.
"Babe I'm home."
My head snaps up at the sound of his voice. A voice that once gave me comfort, but now disgusted me.
"In the living room."
I quickly hide the pictures under the couch, and put on a fake smile.
He comes in with his black suit all wrinkled, his shirt un tucked, his tie loose around his neck. His blue eyes held a hint of guilt. A look I knew was fake just like the excuse he was about to give me. He was holding a bear that held a little black box, and a bouquet of red roses. Usually I would accept the gifts and forgive him, but that was before I knew his little cheating adventures. I hold my fake smile as I looked over the gifts in his hands.
"So am I forgiven?"
He says breaking the silence, and all I do is smile.
"Oh babe it's fine, let me guess work was piling up today?"
Let's see what you say you lying scumbag.
I notice his eyes flicker with relief and he lets out a breath.
"You know me so well babe, happy four years Nikky."
He sets the bear, roses and small box on the couch. He comes closer and wraps his arms around me. All I wanted to do at that moment was push him off of me. But trying my best I hug him back. Huh he smells of cheap perfume.
"I'll be back, I'm going to change and then we could have dinner."
I just nod and watch him walk off to my room. I wait until he realizes that his clothes are nowhere to be found. Well at least he hasn't checked the garbage.
"Nikky?"
"Yea?"
I respond looking at his confused face.
"Why aren't any of my clothes in there?"
Tell him now.
"They're in the garbage."
I respond.
"Why?"
"Well I thought since you probably have clothes at her house I could just throw away all the clothes you have here. And plus I need more space for the shoes and more clothes I want to buy."
"What are you talking about?"
He says confused.
"Well I'm talking about the girl's house where you stay I'm pretty sure every night for a little sleepover."
"So you assume I cheated on you?"
"Oh no I'm not assuming anything, I have proof that you cheated on me."
I push past him and grab my phone, opening the message and making him look at the picture. As he does his eyes go wide. He opens his mouth to say something but I cut him off.
"Don't you dare say that this isn't you."
I snap and he looks up at me with guilt in his blue eyes.
"Don't do this."
He pleads.
"Leave."
"Nikky come on please let me explain."
"Explain what Luke?! How you cheated on me for who knows how long and yet you have the nerve to come home knowing well what you have done!"
"Nikky it was a mistake!"
"A mistake! No what you did was not a mistake but a choice."
He doesn't say anything.
"Leave! And take this because I don't want anything to do with you!"
I throw the roses and bear at him, along with the little box. And the necklace I was currently wearing.
"Ple-
"Leave now before I call the police."
He stands there looking at me.
"Leave!"
I bang on his chest and push him out the door. Once he is out the door I slam it shut and that's when I feel it. My heart clenches and a sob escapes my throat, tears following right after. And that's when I break, I fall to the ground and let out sobs as I realize that the guy I had loved had broken my heart and didn't think twice when he cheated on me. The guy I was having a baby with had broken me. Grabbing my stomach I let out another sob.
I'm so sorry baby.
The seconds turned to hours which turned to days. I had moved out from the apartment into a smaller one closer to the city. My once flat belly was now a small round bump, being 1 month pregnant and alone brought a lot of complications for me, emotionally wise. I had yet to tell my parents, for all they knew Luke and I were still a thing. I had told no one about the break up except for my best friend Charlie, who I called up the next day to help me find a new place. A place were I could start fresh, with new memories. Just my baby and I.
I was meeting my mom and dad for brunch today so to make sure my bump wasn't noticeable I decided to wear a large black shirt and black leggings and a pair of vans. My hair which was once long was now above my shoulders.
Mom: Sweetie why don't you invite Luke over to eat with us? Your father and I haven't seen or heard from him in a while
I sigh as I look at the text.
Well of course you haven't heard from the scumbag, we broke up because he cheated. And now I'm having his baby.
That's what I wanted to text her, but of course I didn't. But instead replied with the same excuse. Luke was at work and couldn't make it.
"Come on little bean, we have to go meet grandma and grandpa."
I rub my belly and smile. Yea I was already talking to the baby, who was probably the size of a bean if not a bit larger.
Walking out of the apartment I head over to my car and drive off to the cafe that was twenty minutes away.
Driving was always something that I dreaded, because my mind tends to wander to questions I would rather most likely avoid. And the biggest one of course was, When are you going to tell Luke that you're pregnant? Or are you not going to? Personally I would rather keep my baby away from him and not let him know, but he is the father and legally has the right to know.
Before I could get anymore into the subject, I turn the radio on, raising the volume up to drown my thoughts.
By the time I get there parking was already full, so I'm forced to park a block away.
"Great, that means more walking little bean. Which isn't a bad thing. But mommy gets tired."
Dad: Kiddo are you almost here?
I look at the text and chuckle, my dad was always impatient when it came to food.
Me: Yes dad, had to park a block away but I should be there in three minutes.
I turn the engine off and walk out to the crisp air. It was mid-September and the weather in Chicago was getting a bit cooler as fall approached.
I start walking and as I do I start to feel nervous, the fact that my parents will finally know that Luke and I broke up and that I was pregnant and was going to be a single mom was quite the thing to get me all nervous.
It'll be fine, no need to get all worked up about it. You are an adult and they can't tell you what to do anymore.
I kept telling myself as I opened the door and was welcomed with the scent of coffee and warmth. I search the whole place and spot my parents all the way in the back, my dad waving his hands and my mom laughing as she brought the mug to her lips.
Smiling at them I walk towards their table causing them both to get up and greet me with a hug.
"Kiddo Long time no see! How's Luke?"
Just the mention of that name made my stomach churn.
"Yea dad it has been a long time."
I reply ignoring the last part.
"Mom."
I say giving her a hug.
"Darling, how I've missed you. Woah looks like someone is gaining a bit of weight."
Come on Nikky it's now or never. You have to tell them.
"Well, that's what I wanted to talk to you guys about."
I explain, biting on the inside of my cheek.
"Of you gaining weight?"
My dad asks as he sits back down.
And before I can answer a waitress comes by.
"Can I get you anything to drink?"
"Yea she'll have an espresso."
My mom answers.
I shake my head.
"Actually I'll just have a hot chocolate with whipped cream on top and a chocolate chip muffin please."
"Alrighty, then I'll be right out with that."
"Hot chocolate?"
"Yea I just wanted to try something different."
I say playing around with the hem of my shirt.
"So what did you want to talk about Nikky?"
My mom says sitting back down and I follow sitting across from her and my dad.
"Well, um okay, how do I tell you guys."
Quit stalling and just tell them Nikky!
"Nikky just spit it out. You know you can tell us anything."
I nod, reassuring my mom that I knew that.
"Okay, well I'm uh pregnant."
There I said it.
I looked at both my parents who had a blank stare. That is until my mother broke into a smile and stood up, making me stand up as well.
"Sweetie congratulations! Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
She wraps her arms around me and sways us side to side.
"Come on let me get a hug."
My dad says and my mom lets go letting my dad congratulate me by giving me one of his famous bear hugs.
"Can't believe we're going to be grandparents."
I look over at my mom who was on the verge of crying.
"Mom please don't cry."
I plead knowing that I had yet to tell them the other part of the news and not know how they would react with the second part once I had told them.
"So how did Luke react?"
They both look at me with the biggest smiles on their faces.
"He doesn't know."
I say and my mom blinks and my dad just smiles.
"Of course! you want to make it a surprise!"
I shake my head no.
"We broke up, have been for a while now. I left the apartment and got a smaller one closer to the city. Charlie helped me pick it out."
"You're not going to keep it am I right?"
My mother asks looking rather angry.
I was taken aback from her remark, does she mean an abortion?
"No, I plan on keeping my baby."
"Nikky do you know what our friends will say when they find out about this?"
I don't answer her but just continue staring at both my parents, letting her comment process.
Why would I want to have an abortion? This baby was a blessing for me and there was no way that I was going to end my little bean's life. Sure being a single mom would be a bit more challenging but I had my friends, and I thought I had my family but apparently they don't approve.
"Or if you don't want an abortion, we can have it be adopted."
I look at my mother with a look of disgust.
"It's a baby, not it. And I will not have an abortion nor will I have the baby be adopted."
I speak low as to not cause a scene, not that it mattered.
"Nikky listen to your mother, this won't be good for your reputation. Think about it, you'll be a single mom living on your own and not even married with a baby on the way."
I scoff.
"Are you listening to yourself, dad?! Not married and with a baby? This is the twenty-first century, things change and not being married and with a kid is one of them."
Before my mom could reply the waitress comes with our stuff.
"Actually I'll like to have my things to go please."
I say giving her a small smile.
She looks between my mom and I and nods, maybe she could sense the tension going on.
"Of course."
"Thank you."
I turn back to my parents.
"Don't worry, we won't be causing you or your reputation any more trouble."
With that said I walk to the cash register grabbing my hot chocolate and muffin and leaving the coffee shop.
I was preoccupied with my thoughts but the chime of my phone quickly pulled me back to reality.
"So let me get this straight your mother wants you to have an abortion or have the baby be adopted?"
Charlie looks over at me as he flips over the omelet, he looked a bit shocked that my mother would think such thing.
"Yup, my dad even said that it was bad for my reputation being a single mother and all. That it was immoral for me to have the baby and not have the father here with me."
I move around to the cupboard to get the plates along with the cups.
"Well, why would you want a douchebag to me near your baby, especially a cheating one."
"Well he is the father, I have to tell him. But no way will I get back with him."
"So are you for sure ready to tell him? The real question I'm asking is if you're ready to face him again."
He places the omelet on the plate and sets the pan down before looking at me.
"I have no clue, whenever I think about him I feel like throwing up, and I just get nervous. But he has to know, doesn't he?"
I ask looking as Charlie starts preparing his omelet. He shrugs his shoulders before cracking an egg followed by another.
"That's up to you. Do you want him to be part of the baby's life?"
I let out a sigh and run my hands through my face, feeling exhausted from the whole situation.
"I don't know what I want anymore, I just want to live a happy life with my baby."
"Here eat already."
He nudges the plate towards me and I grab it sitting down, waiting for Charlie to finish making his.
"I don't have his number anymore so that means I'm going to have to talk with his parents and get his number from them."
I take my fork and cut a piece of the omelet bringing it to my mouth.
"This is so good."
I exclaim with a full mouth. Charlie chuckles and turns his head to look at me.
"Glad you two like it."
"Like it? We love it."
I take another bite letting my mouth savor the flavors that the sausage, bacon, and ham brought to my taste buds. Charlie joins me finally with his omelet my hot chocolate and his coffee mug, taking a seat across from me.
"Veggie omelet?"
I ask looking at his omelet which contained mushrooms, avocado, spinach, and tomatoes.
"Yea it's good."
He says taking a bite and looking at me with his blue eyes.
I shake my head.
"Maybe, but little bean and I prefer the meat omelet."
The rest of our breakfast time we spent time talking about random stuff, school, and a new project he had. We talked about almost everything except my parents, luke, and the problems I soon had to face.
"Okay so let me get this, you have a date tomorrow and you're barely telling me today?! Why didn't you tell me sooner jerk?"
I smack his arm playfully.
"Becuase I'm not for sure if it will turn out into more dates."
"I don't care, you should have told me. It's about time you got a date."
He rolls his eyes, he opens his mouth to say something smart but he was cut off by a sudden knock at the door.
"Are you expecting someone?"
"Not that I'm aware of."
I get up from my seat and make my way towards the door, before opening it I look through the peephole and feel my heart start beating faster, and not in a good way. Yes 2024-03-27 22:52 active 362 0 1432226800833964 🔞Click to Read more about📜Rejecting My Alpha Mate📜 Finding your mate is everything.

At least, that is what we are taught from a young age. When every wolf turns eighteen, they go through every trial they think of to find their destined soulmate. It's something that every wolf looks forward to. It's the next chapter in our lives.

I knew that with my eighteenth birthday coming quickly, I was going to be taking that next step. To be honest, I wasn't sure if I was ready. I wasn't like the other she-wolves.

I didn't dream about being a mate and a stay-at-home mother to my future children. I dreamed of being the best warrior in history, and I had been training for it since I was a small child.

My mother was a rejected mate. My father, Patrick, was a cruel man. When he met my mother, he made her believe that mates were everything. That he was going to spend his life with her. However, once he slept with her, he rejected her. All because her family didn't come from money, and he had better benefits marrying my stepmother - Monica.

Little did he know he got my mother pregnant before he rejected her. I was what kept her alive. I was what kept her going and kept her from depression and insanity. It was what happened to her that made me hesitant on believing in mates. It was also what drove me to be the best warrior there ever was.

You can't depend on a man to be there for you. You can't depend on a man to protect you if you don't take the initiative to protect yourself out there in the world. Then you're going to end up dead.

"Jesse, breakfast is ready!" My mother called from downstairs.

"Coming, mom!" I yelled back as I looked at myself in the mirror one last time.

I was an independent woman, and there was no man alive that could change my mind about who I wanted to be.

As I came down the stairs, my eyes caught the pictures on the wall. Leading downwards or upwards depending on which way you went. I couldn't help but smile to myself at all the pictures of my mom, and then me and my friends and me. I slid down the banister the rest of the way and made the skip into the kitchen.

"Good morning, mom," I said as I side-stepped and grabbed my plate from her.

She turned and kissed my cheek, "Good morning, my starlight." I smiled and sat down at the kitchen table, eating away at my breakfast.

"Jess."

I looked up when my mom called on me. "Hmm?"

"You haven't told me what you want for your birthday yet."

I chuckled softly. "I told you I don't need anything, Mom," I answered her as I shoved eggs into my mouth.

She was about to say something when one of my good friends, Adam, came barging in like he owned the place.

"Jess! Hurry up; we're late!" He whined at me. I rolled my eyes, knowing full well we were not late.

"Can't a girl eat in peace?" I whined back at Adam, who shrugged.

"I guess," he came over and plopped himself on the couch.

"Good morning, Ms. Spencer!" My mom smiled and looked over at Adam. "Good morning, Adam."

I finished my food and plopped my dish in the sink before kissing my mom's cheek and saying goodbye to her. I grabbed Adam by the ear and dragged him out the door. He whined the whole way till we got to our other friends at the front of the Pack House.

"You're mean," Adam whined as he rubbed his ear. Sasha chuckled at his misery. "Shut up, McCarthy!" Adam gave a playful glare toward the only other main male of our friend group.

There was Adam, Sasha and my main best friend, Amy. Amy and I have known each other the longest through our moms being friends.

Adam refused to leave us alone until we became friends with him. We enjoyed his company regardless. Poor Sasha was dragged into our group through Adam's antics. We kept them around when Amy and I noticed how Sasha was able to calm Adam down in the best of times.

My stepbrother Noah joined in our little group on occasion, but it was an uncommon occurrence.

Amy rolled her eyes at the pair. "Come on, love birds, let's get going before the Alpha barks at us for being late." She teased Sasha and Adam as she linked arms with me, and we made our way to the training fields in the back.

As we made our way through the house, Sasha and Adam started talking my ear off about my birthday and what type of birthday party I should have. It took every bit of my strength not to throw them across the fields.

"How about this," I said finally, annoyed at their whimpers, "If I let you two plan out a good 18th birthday, will you two drop the topic?" When I tell you, I had never seen their heads nod so fast. I chuckled.

"Good," I sighed, "Now can we get to training? I need some sparing work."

The pair nodded, and we were able to make it out to the fields in time.

***

The training lasted a good few hours before Beta Caleb let us go for lunch. I looked over towards where some of the pups were playing, under the watch of a few she-wolves.

I made a small headcount of the pups and noticed one was missing. 'Where could-,' my thoughts were cut off when I heard a yell. I turned and noticed a rouge horse from out of nowhere speeding down the back road towards a lone pup who was trying to catch a bug.

Without hesitation, I sped off and grabbed the pup before the horse could squash them. I held them in my arms as they shook from slight shock.

"It's okay," I said to them softly, "You're safe now, pup." The pup looked up at me and nodded, nuzzling my cheek as a thank you.

"Kaden!" I heard to the left of me. The pup in my arms looked, and their eyes lit up. "Momma!" I smiled and gently put them down, going with them as they ran into their mother's arms.

"Oh! Are you okay? When I heard the ruckus, I-!"

"It's okay, momma," the little pup cut her off, "She helps me!"

I looked at the mother as the pup pointed at me. His mother smiled thankfully at me as she picked him up. "Thank you, Jesse," She thanked me.

I brushed her off. "It's no problem." She nodded and turned to take the little pup inside. I followed a few feet behind them as the other pups rushed to get inside.

I looked up and saw Alpha Jaxson sucking face with Celeste Daniels. The two had been dating for a little over two years, and it was annoying to no end since they were constantly 'on-and-off.

I got the attention of a few of the pups before pointing at Alpha Jaxson and Celeste, making a gagging noise. I smirked as the pups giggled, making Celeste mad. It was fun ticking her off.

"Something funny, Spencer?" She gave me a growl.

"No more than that clown paint you call makeup, Daniels," I retaliated. I watched as she scoffed at me and put on her usual 'crocodile tears' for the Alpha.

I rolled my eyes at her. I was about to walk past them when Jaxson grabbed my wrist. "Jess-!" He was about to say something when his eyes widened as if I gave him electric shock from touching a doorknob. He suddenly dropped my hand. "Don't touch me," I glared at him before walking off.

I wasn't but a few paces before he grabbed me by the shoulder and turned me around to face him. "Don't tell me what to do, little wolf," he growled, standing over me, "Or I'll show you the true big bad wolf you want,"

I tell you, if the situation couldn't get any more awkward, it just did. I figured that Alpha Jaxson's attention to detail was a front for his playboy ways, but this was ridiculous. Another awkward moment passed between us before I pulled myself away.

"Get off me." I turned away and hurried away from him, holding my arms around me in a protective manner. As I walked away, I couldn't get the thought out of my head: 'What the h*ll is his problem?'

..............................................................................
When I was young, my parents told me a secret. They told me of the way an Alpha was to find his Luna.

It all starts with a simple touch or even a quick brush of the hand. Then comes the feeling of sparks being sent through your entire body, ending with a fire in your chest.

As I got older, I made myself believe that it was all just a story. That belief only solidified when my father passed, and mom was left with a broken heart. My wolf was awakened at the feeling of sparks sent through my body whenever I grabbed Jesse's hand. Her stubborn nature and independent aura intrigued my wolf, and to an extent, it intrigued me as well.

The feeling of the sparks ultimately left me confused. There was no way my wolf would awaken just now after one touch. He was most likely restless because we were going to be twenty soon and had yet to find our mate.

It couldn't possibly mean anything. This was nothing more than a sick joke, a weird coincidence. There was no possible way that Jesse was my mate. We know nothing about each other. We're rarely ever in the same area as one another.

I knew Celeste was trying to get my attention as she grabbed my face to force me to look at her.

"Jaxson, what's wrong? You look sick."

I felt myself and my wolf cringe at how ridiculous she sounded. My mind was filled with thoughts of Jesse as my wolf yearned to get her attention.

I grabbed Celeste's hands and took them off my face. "Don't you have Pups to be watching?" I asked her. She scoffed at me before shoving me away and walking off. I had to restrain myself from going to bite her head off for such disrespect.

I watched her walk away before my gaze turned back to Jesse. My wolf ached to get closer to her, but I refrained. I leaned myself against the wall, watching her as she went about conversing with her friends. They seemed to be excitedly planning something while asking others to join them.

I looked over my shoulder and saw my Beta Caleb clasping his hand onto me. "What's that girl's problem?" I asked him as my focus turned from him to her. I pointed her out amongst her friends. "Who her?" Caleb asked as he looked in the direction I was looking.

"Yes, her," I said as I shoved him. Caleb shrugged and looked to his left. I followed his gaze and saw Gray coming over to us.

"What are you two looking at?"

I gestured towards Jesse. Gray looked over and started laughing.

"What?"

"Dude, are you scooping out Jesse Spencer?"

I glared at him, crossing my arms. "And what if I am?"

Caleb threw an arm around me. "You don't even know an ounce about her. Or if she even likes you."

Gray nodded as he leaned against the wall next to me. "Besides," he said, "She's still looking to be about seventeen." I hummed and bit my lip.

"However," Gray continued, "A little birdie told me that her birthday's Friday. That's why her friends are so excited to plan her a party."

I looked back and noticed Jesse had walked off with her friends. I saw Noah James walking by and whistled at him to get him to come over.

"Did you need something, Alpha?" He asked as he came over.

"You and Jesse are close, right?"

Noah nodded, "We're step-siblings."

I nodded, biting my lip. "Do you know if she's ever shown interest in me?" Noah snorted, trying to hold back a laugh.

"No offense, Alpha," he answered, "But besides her training, Jesse hasn't shown any interest in anyone."

"Well," Gray starts, "What is she like? Do you think Jaxson can swoon her over?"

I raised an eyebrow at him. I watched Noah grow nervous. He seemed hesitant to answer. I could tell he was anxious about getting in trouble if he spoke freely.

"Noah, it's okay," I tried to assure him, "You can speak freely."

Noah still seemed hesitant to speak. I waited patiently for him to say what he had to say. I didn't expect the answer I got from him after about another moment of silence.

"Honestly, you don't stand a chance," he answered, "She thinks you to be presumptuous, and—what was the word she used before?— a playboy who thinks he deserves whatever he wants."

I was left speechless as my 'friends' laughed at my reaction. Noah gave a nervous smile.

"But hey, who knows," he said as he shrugged his shoulders, "Her birthday's Friday so, maybe you could sweep her off her feet. Assuming she doesn't find her mate at the beginning of the party."

Oh, if only they knew.

***

Over the next couple of days, I threw myself into work. I focused on errands around the Packhouse while also listening in on any update on Jesse's party. Call it stalking if you want, but I couldn't trust Caleb and Gray to find out if they had their own things to deal with.

Through my work around the house, I learned that the party was going to be at Amy and Adam Knight's house. Almost half of the pack was going to be there. That made things a bit difficult, knowing that it would be somewhat of a challenge finding Jesse in such a crowd of others.

The more time I spent away from Jessie, the more my wolf wanted to be nearer to her. Quite honestly, it was all rather distracting. I would be In my office trying to get work done, when all of a sudden, I'd hear whimpering and whining within my head.

I had to remind my wolf that Jesse was only seventeen, and we weren't certain that she was our mate. Regardless, my wolf kept pursuing Jesse. What made it even more difficult was during the couple of days before the party, it seemed that Jesse and I would somehow be in the same area at the same time.

I knew that the more I neglected my wolf, the harder it would be to control him. However, my goal wasn't to scare Jesse away.

Thursday before the party, all the warrior wolves were out training. I wanted to see the progress myself, so I watched over them all with Caleb. Most of them were sparing, either in human or wolf form.

I noticed Jesse sparing off with one of her friends near the back middle of the field. My wolf was howling at me to get over there and spar with Jesse, but I refrained. Fortunately, Caleb was a welcomed distraction as he started talking to me about neighboring packs.

"Remember you have meetings all morning tomorrow," he reminded me. I nodded and rubbed the back of my neck.

"I know; I also have papers to go through before the party."

Caleb nodded before returning his focus back to the field. "So, have you found her yet?" I raised an eyebrow at him.

"What?"

"Your Luna," Caleb rephrased, "Have you found her yet? Or is Celeste trying to pull your d*ck?"

I bit back a laugh. "No, I haven't found her yet," I answered him. There was a pause between us.

"What about you?" I nudged him with my elbow. "Have you found your special someone yet?" Caleb blushed and looked away. I smirked. "You have, haven't you~," I teased.

"N-Not exactly," he mumbled. I leaned off a little.

"What? What do you mean?"

Caleb rubbed the back of his neck. "I did find them, but I'm not sure if they like me." I was taken aback.

"What? You're kidding me, right?" I clapped him on the back. "Any girl would be lucky to have you!"

He chuckled and gave me a thankful smile.

"Thanks, man, but enough about me. What's your game plan for tomorrow?"

I paused, having it dawn on me that I had no idea how I was going to get Jesse's attention tomorrow.

"A~nd, he's got nothing~!" Caleb teased me back. I shoved him.

"Well, what do you suggest I go?" I glared at him playfully. Caleb shrugged.

"Offer her a drink? Try and get her alone to talk? ACTUALLY, talk to her?" He listed off, "you got quite a few options."

"And what if her friends try and steal her away?" I countered. Caleb rolled his eyes.

"You're the Alpha, dumb*ss," he said, "You can just steal her away for a quick chat."

I sighed and nodded, signaling that he was right. I looked out towards the training warriors; my eyes locked on Jesse. Tomorrow night was the night. I was going to make sure Jesse was my mate and wasn't planning on ever letting her go.

Now all I needed was the perfect way to get to talk to her. I wonder if Noah would be able to help me out.

..............................................................................
The day of the party came quicker than I could’ve imagined. I woke up to the smell of pancakes and sausages.

I sat up in bed and smiled as I saw a present on my desk. I figured mom must’ve gone out of her way to get me something. I got up and went to get ready for the day before my attention turned to the present on the desk.

I opened the present slowly and smiled when I saw that it was a new outfit. I kept it folded before setting it out for later. I would wear it to the party.

I straightened myself out before going downstairs. I smiled as I saw mom sitting at the table, sipping her usual coffee.

“Good morning, mom,” I said as I came into the kitchen, grabbing a plate.

Mom smiled happily, “Good morning, birthday girl.”

I blushed softly and went over to her, hugging her from behind.

“What time is your big party?” She asked me as I sat down to eat breakfast.

I shrugged, “Probably around 7? Something like that.”

Knowing Amy and Adam, the house was going to be crowded with other young adult wolves.

Speaking of Amy and Adam—“Good Morning, bestie!”—there they were, coming into the house bright and early like usual.

I looked up at them, pancake in my mouth. I took a moment to swallow.

“Are you two ever going to let me eat breakfast in peace?” I raised an eyebrow at them.

Adam shook his head as Amy crossed her arms. “Would we be your best friends if we didn’t?” Amy raised her eyebrow back at me.

I chuckled and shook my head, “No, no, you wouldn’t be.” I stretched before I shoved the last bit of breakfast into my mouth.

I stood and made sure I had my training clothes before I said goodbye to mom and left to get to training.

As excited, I was for my party; I had to keep focusing on my ultimate goal. I couldn’t risk any ‘free days.’ Being the best warrior wasn’t going to be given to me; I had to prove myself.

***

I took a moment to breathe as I got changed into my outfit for the party. I had been so busy training that I couldn’t see where the time went.

It seemed that before I could blink, it was time to get ready for the party. I raced home after Sasha said they would get me later.

I felt my heart moving a thousand miles a minute. I couldn’t tell if it was from excitement or nerves. Tonight was the night, the night I found my mate. There was no stopping the inevitable.

“Jesse!” I heard mom from downstairs, “Sasha’s here!”

I looked at myself one final time before I made my way downstairs. As I got to the bottom of the steps, I saw Sasha all dressed up. I chuckled softly.

“What?” They asked, “Something on my face?” I shook my head.

“No, you look good. I’ve just never seen you so dressed up.” I nudged them in the shoulder. Sasha chuckled and rubbed the back of their neck, blushing.

“Come on,” They gestured to the door, “Amy and Adam will have my throat if the birthday girl’s late.”

I rolled my eyes fondly and followed him out the door, waving goodbye to mom. The way the pack lands were set up was like a gated Cul-de-Sac in a large suburban area in Uptown Sacramento. The main Packhouse was in the middle, and separate houses for Pack members surrounded it like some Suburbia satanic circle. It was home, though.

It didn’t take long to get to Amy and Adam’s. The closer we got, the louder the music became as the base of the music could be felt in your chest. We squeezed our way through the front as Sasha pulled me to where Amy and Adam were.

I couldn’t tell when the party had started, but already the house was starting to smell like s*x and alc*h*l. There must’ve been a third of the pack in the house. Everyone our age was here, wishing me ‘happy birthday’ as we passed.

I was about to say hey to Amy and Adam when a drink was shoved into my hands.

“Drink up, b*!” Adam cheered, “Tonight’s a night for partying!”

I rolled my eyes and amused him by chugging my drink in three gulps. I passed him my cup, and he quickly scurried off to get me another. I settled into lively chatter with Amy and Sasha when Noah came over to wish me ‘happy birthday.

“Thanks, Noah,” I smiled happily, giving him a hug.

He leaned into my ear. “Just a heads up, jealous Tally at 5 o’clock,” he whispered before ruffling my hair and going off to his friends.

I looked towards the wall, and sure enough, Tally Ryder was staring daggers at me. I knew she had always been jealous of me, being the attention wh*re she was. I did my best to ignore her, focusing on my friends.

I was mid-conversation with Amy about some new training tactics when Tally came over and started making a fuss about my outfit.

“That jacket looks cheap; where did you get it, Goodwill?” She sneered.

I knew mom must’ve spent a lot of money on my outfit, so I tried to bite my tongue. Yet, Tally couldn’t seem to find the memo to shut her trap.

She went off, insisting that my outfit was cheap and would look better on her. With how loud she was being, several others started looking at us. I went to say something, but Sasha put their hand on my shoulder, stepping in front of me.

“Are you done?” They started, “Because you’re making a scene on JESSE’S birthday.”

“She doesn’t deserve all this!” Tally whined.

I had to cover my ears with how loud she was. Sasha raised an eyebrow and crossed their arms.

“And you do?” They countered, “You’re nowhere close on the same level as Jesse to deserve this. So why don’t you fall back in line and let the rest of us have fun?”

Tally was about to counter them when Sasha held their hand up to her.

“Nope,” they growled, “If you want to be the pack bicycle, you can do it elsewhere because no one takes you seriously.”

I couldn’t help but laugh as Sasha humiliated Tally in front of the others who started whispering around her. Tally was only making a fool of herself, but everyone was suffering for it. The next thing I knew, Tally shrieked her head off, and I had water thrown on my outfit.

I sidestepped Sasha and wiped my face before my attention turned to Tally, murder in my eyes. I grabbed Tally by her shirt.

“Tally, Ryder,” I growled, “You have five seconds to get the h*ll out of my sight, or I’m not going to be able to restrain myself from beating your face into the ground-!”

“What is going on over here?”

I looked to my left as Alpha Jaxson came out of the crowd. I wasn’t focused on him. I was focused on not trying to pound Tally’s face in.

“Stand down, Spencer,” Jaxson commanded. I turned to him.

“You’re telling ME to back down when she started it?” I countered him. His eyes glowed as he let out his alpha voice.

“Spencer,” he growled, “Stand down. Now.”

I glared hard at him before I dropped Tally. I flicked my head to her, and she scurried away. My eyes locked back onto Jaxson, my face blood hot with anger.

I felt Amy’s hand on my shoulder, but I was too angry to let her calm me down.

“Screw this,” I growled before I threw Amy’s hand off me, turned, and walked out of the living room. I stormed off to Amy’s room, going onto the balcony, needing air.

I groaned and slammed my hands on the railing, trying not to pull my hair out. I sighed as I slowly calmed down from my outburst.

“Some birthday this is turning out to be,” I sighed as I looked up towards the moon. The smell of honeysuckle, lavender, and hyacinth was the only thing keeping me calm.

Little did I know how worse the night was going to get.

..............................................................................
If my plan to get close to Jesse didn’t backfire already, then this sure did it. I looked down as Tally caught her breath before she stood. Everyone went about doing their own thing. I was caught off guard as Tally latched herself onto me.

“Alpha Jaxson, you have to do something about Jesse!” She cried, grabbing onto my arm. I refrained from rolling my eyes at her.

“What do you want me to do about Jesse?” I crossed my arms at her. She looked gobsmacked for a brief moment.

“Are you kidding?!” She shrieked, “Did you not see what just happened?! She tried to kill me!”

Celeste went over and gently hugged her, if not a bit awkwardly. “Is she always like that?” She asked. Tally nodded and rubbed her face.

“Always! She’s been like that since we were little,” She whined, holding her empty cup close to her.

I shifted on my feet slightly as my wolf whined within me. I listened closely to Tally as she went off about all the horrible things Jesse had ever done to her. I rubbed my temple as my wolf growled within me.

‘I guess he doesn’t like this trash talk,’ I thought to myself as Tally continued to whine.

“She even had the nerve to punch me in the chest!” Tally cried as she held her chest, “I think it’s bruised!”

I sighed and rubbed my face as I straightened up. “Well, she is the pack’s best warrior,” I said, “I could take you back to the packhouse to see the doctor.”

The look of shock across Celeste’s face didn’t go unnoticed; however, as Alpha, I was worried that Tally was seriously injured. I’ve seen our warriors in battle; I know the number of injuries they can achieve when focused.

I watched as both Celeste’s and Tally’s body language changed. Celeste crossed her arms as she refused to look at me. Tally seemed a bit nervous, holding her empty cup to the point she was starting to crush it.

“Well?” I addressed Tally, “Are we going to the doctor?”

Tally shook her head and stepped back some. “N-No, thank you, Alpha,” She answered. I hummed; I figured she was lying.

Celeste started laughing awkwardly, and she went over to Tally. “We’ll figure out a proper punishment for Jesse,” She said, “Right, Jaxson?”

I bit my lip, feeling like this was a bad idea. I was sure Celeste was just trying to be a good friend. Reluctantly, I agreed to Celeste, and Tally seemed to relax.

“Why don’t you go enjoy the rest of the party?” I suggested to her.

Tally nodded and walked off. I assumed she was going to get something else to drink. I looked at Celeste, feeling annoyed that she tried to intercept my authority. I was about to say something when Celeste pulled me to the hallway.

“How did you know Jesse was a warrior?” She confronted me. I gave her a look, ‘is she serious?’ I pinched the bridge of my nose.

“Are you serious? You do realize who you’re talking to, right?” I couldn’t understand why she was being so jealous.

Celeste crossed her arms, pouting like a child. “You are MY boyfriend, not hers.” She whined. I could feel my wolf within me wanting to rip her tongue out for sounding so annoying. I shut him down.

“You’re acting like a child,” I said to her as I held her hand. She huffed, pulling her hand away. “How am I acting like a child when you’re talking to another girl.”

“Celeste,” I growled softly, grabbing her hands again. “How long have we been together? You really believe I would be looking for other girls when we’ve been together for two years?”

Celeste relaxed a bit, wrapping her arms around herself as she looked up at me. “You said I would be Luna. You promised.” I sighed, feeling exhausted from this discussion.

“I know, Celeste,” I said as I gently cupped her cheek to try and calm her. “Believe me; I am yours and no one else’s.” I ignored the sudden pain in my chest at my words.

Celeste seemed to relax at my words as she gently cupped my face and kissed me hard. I hummed softly as I kissed her back, ignoring the ugly feeling within my gut.

She pulled away and smirked softly. She pulled me into the kitchen, getting me a cup of alc*h*l. “Let’s enjoy ourselves,” She said, getting a cup for herself, “It is a party after all.”

I nodded at her and downed the alc*h*l, getting myself another cup. I sipped my drink slowly as I looked around the house. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. It almost made me jealous.

My Alpha instincts were telling me to go search for my mate, but at this point, I just wanted to relax. Seeing everyone else having fun was making me tense.

For that, it didn’t take long for the cups of alc*h*l to stack up. Before I knew it, I was on my fourth—fifth? Sixth?—drink. I was too drunk at that point to really care.

I groaned softly as Celeste sat me down on the couch, straddling my lap. She took my cup away from me as I watched her start to move her hips.

She let her hair down before she leaned in and kissed me deeply. I groaned against her lips as I kissed her back, my hands going to her hips.

I ignored my wolf as Celeste moved her hips against me, running her hands up my shirt. I hummed and moved my lips to her neck as I pulled her closer to me. I rubbed my hands against her thighs as I nipped along her neck.

She gasped and grabbed my shirt, continuing to move her hips against me. “J-Jaxson,” She gasped. I moved away to look at her.

I felt a familiar heat within me, one not from my wolf. My head was fuzzy from the alc*h*l and the blaring music that made my chest shake from the bass. My body seemed to be moving on its own.

Celeste’s perfume was almost sickeningly sweet as she leaned in and kissed my neck. She only moved away to take off my shirt.

“You’re so tense,” She purred softly as she tossed my shirt to the side. “Maybe I could help take care of that~?”

At this point, I couldn’t think straight. I wasn’t thinking for myself, as the alc*h*l within my system made decisions for me. I had a feeling in the back of my head that I was going to be making the wrong choice, but I couldn’t have cared less at that moment.

I followed Celeste as she pulled me outside of the house and out towards the side of the house. Celeste pinned me up against the side of the house and gave me another hard kiss, working her hips against me.

I hummed and rolled my hips as she moved her lips downward. I pulled her back up before she could get too low, grabbing onto her shirt and practically tearing it off of her.

She gasped at the force in which I tore off her shirt, smirking as she bit her lip. I switched our positions and pinned her against the wall as I leaned down and started kissing at her br**sts, removing her bra.

Celeste gasped out a moan as she grabbed my hair with one hand. Her other hand was making quick work of my jeans. I dropped her bra into the grass as I moved my leg in between her thighs.

The air between us kept getting hotter and hotter as we did what stupid teenagers did. I made no attempts to realize how loud we were being or if anyone was outside with us. I growled softly as Celeste moaned out towards the sky.

“Jaxson~!”

..............................................................................
I looked up towards the stars before I checked my phone.

Midnight.

I was officially eighteen.

As it dawned on me that I was now eighteen, a strange scent overwhelmed me.

‘Mate,’ I heard within me. “What?” I said to no one. It took a minute for me to realize my wolf was speaking to me.

‘Our mate is near,’ She whined. “Are you, my wolf?” I asked softly, whispering in case anyone could hear.

‘I have always been your wolf, Jesse,’ my wolf replied, ‘I just haven’t made myself known till now. My name is Esme.’ I nodded to myself, wrapping my arms around myself as the night wind whisked about me. I looked out towards the backyard.

A good number of young wolves had moved from the confines of the house. They flocked almost every inch of the backyard, safe for the sides of the house.

I followed the scent, having it lead me out of the house. As I got closer to the side, the stronger the scent got. I stopped in my tracks when I heard moaning about five feet in front of me. I felt my wolf whine within me, clearly upset, but I didn’t know why. All too suddenly, a heavy feeling within my chest overcame me as if someone was pressing a stack of heavy books against my ribs.

I had to stop myself. I wasn’t used to this feeling. This feeling of heaviness. This dragging feeling of hands pulling me down by my chest. It was almost agonizing. There, standing under the light against the side of the house, was Alpha Jaxson—having sex with Celeste Daniels.

Their bodies were illuminated in a glow of copper, with bits of hot honey that seemed to pool and fade against the red brick. Celeste’s legs were wrapped around Jaxson, her heels pushing against his back and pulling him closer to her. His face was buried into her neck. Although his moans were directed to her ear, each one I could hear was a shot to my heart.

I accidentally stepped on a branch, making Jaxson stop and turn his head to look at me. Our eyes locked, and all at once—I was breathless.

No.

Not this.

Not him.

Anyone but him.

I watched them stop their previous rendezvous. It was more of Jaxson stopping and pushing himself away from Celeste more than anything. I saw Celeste’s eyes burn fire as anger raged within her.

I didn’t care. I was feeling too many things to care about.

I didn’t know how long I was standing there. I didn’t know how long I was silent. Celeste’s yelling was going in one ear and out the other.

“Jesse…” Jaxson looked at me, hurt in his eyes as he tried to touch me.

“F*ck,” was the first thing I said, “Are you serious?!”

Jaxson looked scared and hurt. How dare he? He was the one who did this. This was his choice. I was the victim, not him. He didn’t deserve to feel this hurt—this betrayal.

“Jesse, please,” I looked to Jaxson as he grabbed my arm. I froze up. The last thing I wanted was him touching me; I yanked my arm away. “Don’t f*cking touch me,” I growled as I moved towards the backyard.

I didn’t want him to explain. I didn’t want to hear his excuses. I didn’t care what he had to say to make this any better.

I shook my head and stepped back from him before I turned and ran back inside the house. I needed to find the others. I didn’t want to be here a second longer.

I covered my ears the best I could as I got back into the house. I saw Sasha dancing with Beta Caleb, looking like they were having a good time. I practically ran into Amy, who gently grabbed me by the shoulders. “Jesse,” she said as she looked at me, “what happened? What’s wrong?”.

“I found my mate,” I muttered, not meeting her eyes. I could feel her energy as she got excited. “Who? Who is it?” I could feel her curiously.

“An asshole,” I shoved past her and hurried towards the door. I wanted to go home. I wanted to curl up and forget this ever happened. That tonight was nothing but a bad dream.

I ignored Amy’s cries for me to wait as I slipped my way through the crowd. I slipped my way out the front door and ran all the way home. I refused to take any chances in looking back.

Mom probably wasn’t expecting me home for a while; only the tiniest shine of light came from the kitchen. The other rooms were jet black, dead to the world as any other sleeping being. I made my way into the house slowly before cautiously going upstairs.

I all but stumbled into my room before hurrying to my bathroom. I held onto my sink as I tried to keep the inevitable tears from spilling out. I went to my shower and turned it on its hottest setting.

I undressed as I waited for the water to heat up, going into the shower after a few minutes. I practically scrubbed away my scalp as I shampooed my hair before rinsing. I wanted to get all traces of feeling dirty off of me.

I wanted to get his eyes out of my head. I wanted to forget him entirely. I wanted to just curl away into nothing.

I conditioned my hair before leaving it in. I grabbed the soap and scrubbed my body as hard as I could. The feeling of being dirty overwhelmed me.

I felt dirty for going and finding him.

I felt dirty for watching him give himself to Celeste.

I felt dirty for not being the one he wanted.

I just felt nothing but DIRTY.

No matter how hard I tried, I could not seem to feel clean.

I threw my soap at the wall of the shower as I sat on the floor, wrapping my arms around me. The only time I moved from the shower was when the water got cold. I refused to allow myself to skip training.

I dried off and got changed into clean pajamas before drying out my hair. I finished getting ready for bed before I collapsed onto my bed. I curled up under the covers, finding comfort in their warmth.

Here, I was away from Jaxson. Here, I was away from heartbreak. Here, I was safe and loved. I wanted to stay here forever, safe in the warmth of my blankets and pillows.

I grabbed my phone and put it on the charger after turning on some white noise. I looked up towards the ceiling; Esme whined within me.

‘He didn’t wait for us…?’ I could tell she was confused and hurt as to why her mate was with another girl. “Celeste is his girlfriend,” I answered her as I moved my hands onto my chest. The heaviness was back.

“He’s a playboy,” I said, reminding myself more than telling Esme. ‘Has he slept with a lot of women?’ I blinked, thinking it over.

“Mostly Celeste,” I answered her, rubbing my eyes. I yawned gently as I turned onto my shoulder. “We don’t need him,” I mumbled, burying my face into the pillow, “We didn’t need him before, and we don’t need him now.”

Esme whimpered within me, ‘What are we going to do with the mate bond?’ She seemed hesitant to ask. I blinked a bit, not saying anything for a moment.

She was right, though.

What was I going to do about the mate bond?

I had a feeling deep within me that Jaxson was going to come for me. I had no intention to forgive him for the heartbreak he caused me. I had no intention to forgive him and act like nothing was wrong.

He deserved to work for what he had done. If he truly wanted me as his mate, he had to work for his right to call me his own.

I wasn’t going to give in to him so easily because he was my Alpha. If I truly was his mate, I was his true equal, not his inferior.

I refused to let myself be suede his charms.

I refused to give up on my goals.

No one was going to deter me from getting my ultimate goal of being the best warrior this pack had ever seen. No one, not even Jaxson.

I sighed and pulled the blankets up to my shoulders. I slowly fell into a numb-like slumber, fearful of the morning to come.

..............................................................................
The hurt in her eyes was enough to slap me sober. All at once, my senses were awakened as my eyes locked with hers.

She was my mate.

She was to be my Luna.

My equal.

The mother to my future children.

Yet, with one look, it was all taken away from me. All because I had to be a drunk fool and mess around with Celeste because she was ‘easy.’ This was the end result.

All my life, I had been given all that I had ever wanted. My status was the only thing that gave me that right. My status had gotten me out of a lot of trouble, even situations that were my fault.

This? Not even my status could save this. My status couldn’t get rid of the horrible choice I had made. My status couldn’t magically make Jesse come back to me as she slipped from my fingers.

The bass of the music was like drums of war. After Jesse ran off, I quickly got my clothes together and rushed after her.

I side-stepped my way through the backyard before going into the house. I tried to pick up Jesse’s scent through the house, but all I could get was the smell of alc*h*l and s*x.

I was looking around frantically, my wolf trying to pick up on Jesse’s scent but to no avail. I turned and stopped as Celeste suddenly appeared in front of me.

“Why did you run off, Jaxson?” She tried to purr. I held my head as an overwhelming headache came upon me. I almost fell back as Celeste shoved herself upon me.

“We were just getting started~,” she cooed as she tried to put my leg between her thighs again. A loud growl resonated through me; my wolf nor I wanted her. I shoved her off of me.

“Getaway, Celeste,” I growled, “We’re done. This was a mistake.” I could see her heart crush through her eyes. It quickly changed to anger.

It wasn’t until this moment that I realized how much trouble Celeste actually was. I hadn’t seen it until now because I didn’t know who my mate was.

I had no one to blame but myself for my actions. This was my problem that I had to fix. I had to find Jesse and apologize for everything.

I didn’t realize how wrong my actions were. Celeste was just a fine time to relieve stress, nothing serious.

‘We wasted ourselves on another woman,’ I heard my wolf whine within me. ‘We should’ve waited for mate.’ I held my head, the alc*h*l taking its toll on me. I was trying to ignore Celeste’s fit, but her voice was making the headache work.

“What about all we have planned?” She whined, stomping her foot like a child. “You promised me forever! You promised I would be Luna!”

I could feel my wolf gritting his teeth within me. I could only watch as Celeste began to cry, her mascara easily running down her face. She looked like a villain from a kid's movie.

Her face was beet red as she barred her teeth at me. Her hair stuck out in all directions from our rendezvous outside. If you looked closer, around where her neck met her chest on her left side—there was the smallest pop of a vein.

I had to keep myself calm. If not, my wolf was going to rip her throat out. I shook my head at her. “I’m sorry, Celeste,” I said to her, “I can’t neglect my duties anymore. We’re done for good.” I turned and walked away from her.

I walked aimlessly around the house—my mind set on trying to find Jesse. I turned behind me quickly when I felt a hand on my shoulder.

I relaxed when I saw that it was just Caleb.

“Woah, Woah!” He said, gently putting his hands on my shoulders. “Where’s the fire?” I took a breath, squeezing my fists before relaxing.

“I found my mate,” I explained. Caleb’s eyes lit up. Oh goddess, bless his innocence.

“Dude, that’s amazing!” He cheered, “Who-!”

“It’s Jesse.”

I watched his face drop from one of pure happiness to one of concern. “What? Where is she?” I bit my lip.

“I don’t know,” I sighed, “That’s why I’m trying to find her. I haven’t had any luck.”

Caleb rubbed his chin. “She probably left. But why would she leave if the two of you are mates?” The floor and my shoes seemed a lot more interesting at that moment.

“Jax?” Caleb raised an eyebrow at me. “Why did Jesse leave?”

I rubbed the back of my neck. I didn’t know how to tell him that I was the cause of Jesse leaving the party.

“She caught me having sex with Celeste,” I mumbled towards the floor. Caleb blinked at me.

“What was that? I couldn’t hear you,” He teased, leaning closer to me. I growled at him, annoyed.

“She caught me having sex with Celeste,” I looked back up at him. His eyes widened in shock. He was silent for a few moments as if I told him his mom had died.

“Man…” He sighed as his shoulders relaxed, “You F*cked up.” I covered my face, rubbing it downwards. “Don’t you think I know that?!”

“No, no, I know you know,” Caleb rubbed the back of his neck, “it's just, you seriously f*cked up.” I groaned and grabbed at my hair. This was getting me nowhere.

“Why didn’t I know she was my mate?” I was so confused. Caleb crossed his arms and gave me a look that read: ‘Are you goddamn serious?’

“Jax,” he sighed as he rubbed the bridge of his nose. “She just turned eighteen. Midnight marked her eighteenth birthday.”

I felt as if my jaw had hit the floor. I covered my mouth and tried my hardest not to beat myself up over it. Caleb gently grabbed me by the shoulders again.

I couldn’t believe I was so close to my mate, and now—I was just as close to losing her forever. This was not what I wanted. This was not how I wanted to find my mate.

I had this whole future in my sights. I led the pack to be stronger while my Luna ruled by my side. A small little family of my own, a son and maybe a daughter—or two.

Now, all that hope was gone. The dream was shattered. All because I couldn’t grow up for a single night and find my mate properly.

“Jax,” he said sincerely, “You can’t change what you did. But you have to make it up to Jesse. She’s your future, Luna, after all.” I nodded. Caleb was right. I couldn’t change what I did; I could only make things better.

A feeling of determination washed over me. I had a new goal. There was no way I was going to allow anyone to come between my mate and me again.

I had to get Jesse to trust me. I had to prove to her that I was the man she deserved, not the one she despised. I had to make things right, no matter how hard it was going to be.

I told Caleb that I was going to see him in the morning before I turned and made a small beeline to the door. I left the party, the sound of music fading behind me as I made my way to the packhouse. The house was dark, but it was easy for me to get upstairs and into my room.

I took a quick shower to wash the scent of s*x off of me. As I got into bed, I ran a tired hand over my face. I flopped onto my bed and stared up at my ceiling as exhaustion washed over me.

Today had been a long day. Yet tonight had been even worse. It had practically been the worse night of my life, and tonight hadn’t even been about me.

‘How do you think our mate feels?’ My wolf asked within me. “I can only imagine,” I answered. My wolf let out a soft purr of agreement.

‘How are we going to make it up to her?’ I took a deep breath, held it for a few seconds before letting it go. I hadn’t really thought of it.

“I don’t know,” I answered as I pulled the blanket over my chest, “I’ll think of something by morning.” My wolf purred.

‘Ajax.’

“Hmm?”

‘My name--, it’s Ajax. You never asked.’

“Oh,” I sighed as I relaxed into the bed, “Well, good night, Ajax.”

‘Good night, Jaxson.’

I had to make things up to Jesse, and I think I knew the perfect way to start.
