With the news I got, I was happy and completely oblivious to what was going on. The beta and his mate were looking at me in shock, guilt, and pity. Ok, what happened? "Aaryana, what are you doing home so early?" Rachel, the beta female asked.<br /> "Well one, I live here. Two, I have some news for Brentin." I said. What is up with them? I didn't have time to worry about that right now. I have news to tell Brentin. Then we have to decide when to tell the pack. "By the way, where is he?"<br /> "Um...he had an uh...um...an alpha meeting." She stuttered. That's not like her. She is normally always calm and collected, now she is just plain nervous.<br /> "Rachel, why are you so nervous? It's like you're hiding something from me." I said. It was really out of character for her, and annoying to me.<br /> "I can't say." She says looking guilty. I look to her and her mate, Bill, to see him looking the same way.<br /> "Ok. Well, when you want to tell me you know where to find me. Anyways, when Brentin gets here, tell him I need to speak to him. I'll be in our room." I said as I walked away.<br /> I walked upstairs towards our room. Our room was on the second floor, it was one of 2 rooms on the second floor. The other room was the beta's rooms. Once I am standing outside our room, I hear growning. WTH??? Who is in our room? I listen closer, I know the woman's voice, I also know the man's voice. What are Brentin and Julie doing in our room? And why are they growning? I then open our door to see...MY mate in bed with my 'best friend'?<br /> "WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?" I shout letting my alpha and Luna tone out. Brentin looks up guilty. And guess what Julie is doing... Come on guess... Wanna know?? She's smirking at me! This bimbo has some nerve, I thought to myself. My wolf just growled. 'I told you'. My wolf said. 'Told me what?' I asked. 'You'll find out soon enough.' She replied.<br /> "Baby, it's not what you think! I slipped!" Brentin said. Really, that's the best he can come up with? He slipped? Ha, it must have been a fall. And they just happened to take off their clothes when he 'slipped'? I doubt that.<br /> " You slipped? While taking off your clothes? Did it cushion your fall too? Do I look like an idiot? How long has this been going on?" I asked. I was seeing red, I was so mad. But I didn't want to lash out, yet. I was trying to stay calm and collected so I could hear everything they said. Like my wolf was. 'Why are you so calm?' I asked my wolf. 'Because I feel nothing for him. Well, maybe for his wolf, but his wolf is a part of him and I can't forgive them. I'll tell you why after everything is over.' She said. Then she turned around and told me, 'Think happy thoughts to calm down so you don't fight.' The only happy thought I could think about was what the doctor told me not even 30 minutes ago.<br /> "It's not nonsense. No, you don't look like an idiot, well, to be honest, you kind of do, but that's beside the point. And it's been going on since the day I found out you were my mate." He said.<br /> "Two years? Two years? This is why you wouldn't mark me? Why Brentin? Why did you do it?" I asked. Now I was pissed. He has been cheating on me for 2 years? Yet, he still had the audacity to sleep with me after sleeping with that bimbo?<br /> "Yes. Two years. And yes, this is why I wouldn't mark you. You see, I love you but I'm not in love with you. My wolf is in love with you. Other than that, I feel nothing for you. And, besides, I did it for the thrill. The thrill of not being caught. And because I'm in love with her." He said. She looked kind of smug at me. Well, he admitted that part, too bad he couldn't tell me that 2 years ago. I mean really? The boy played me like a fool.<br /> "Is there anything else you want to tell me?" I snarl. He better think carefully before he speaks. I am ready to kill them both. 'You can't do that. Remember what the doctor said?' My wolf said. Yeah, yeah, the doctor just notified me of some surprising news, so I can't fight. Well there goes that thought. But I can make them regret ever doing this.<br /> "She's pregnant." He said. He then started smiling. He's happy that this bimbo is pregnant. It had been a blow when her boyfriend found his true mate, but Ally was happy for Zeke. She had been nothing but welcoming and respectful to his mate, but the female had loathed her from minute one. Ally had felt the hate pouring from her in wavesâliterally. Being highly empathetic came with the Seer package.<br /> Her intuition had told her that Rachelle Lavin was going to be trouble . . . and it had been right. Despite Zeke not hesitating to claim Rachelle as his mate, the female had immediately embarked on a hate campaign with Ally as the target.<br /> Ally had been shocked when Zeke berated her a few months ago for supposedly insulting his mate. Confused and riled, sheâd sought out Rachelle . . . playing right into the womanâs hands, she later realized. Everyone had witnessed her yelling at her Beta female, who had remained calm and cool as she rebuked Ally and gave her pitying looks for her âjealousy.â<br /> That was when the âAllyâs jealousâ tripe had started. And she had quickly found that there wasnât a good defense against that seventh-grade insult. If Ally ignored it, she was jealous. If she responded with a smart comeback, she was jealous. If she got pissed at them, she was not only jealous but bitter too.<br /> Shortly after that incident, Rachelle had claimed that Ally was sending her hateful text messages. Again, Zeke had freaked at Ally. So again, sheâd sought out Rachelle, demanding that she produce these fictional messages. To her utter shock and dismay, Rachelle had. Ally had adamantly and loudly denied sending them, insisted that Rachelle must have at some point taken Allyâs cell phone and sent them to herself. Which, of course, sounded plain crazyâyet it was true. But no one other than Ally seemed to see that.<br /> And so, her pack mates had slowly but surely pulled away from Ally. In the time sheâd been part of the Collingwood Pack, sheâd healed several of them and had twice saved the pack from conflict through her visions . . . but all of that had ceased to mean anything.<br /> In their defense, Rachelle was a very convincing liar. Sheâd made Ally an outsider in her own pack. And thanks to the heiferâs latest stunt, Ally might be cast out.<br /> âNo oneâs going to buy your story, Ally,â Clint growled into her ear. Her wolf snapped her teeth at him. The guy certainly had the Prick Factor going on. âNo oneâs going to believe you. We have a witness who claims they saw you attack Rachelle.â<br /> âI doubt that.â<br /> He straightened. âOh, really? Why?â<br /> âOne, because the assault didnât happen. Two, because if you did have a witness, you wouldnât need a confession. As you said, itâs currently my word against Rachelleâs. People might trust her and like her, but thatâs not enough to justify an execution. Particularly since there are some gaping holes in Rachelleâs little tale.â<br /> âSuch as?â<br /> âWhy would someone who wanted to kill her run away while she was unconscious? Wouldnât they take advantage of that moment in which she was totally helpless and deliver a killing blow, considering they were a âcowardâ and all?â<br /> Clint was quiet for a moment. âMaybe you heard someone coming. Or maybe you noticed someone was watching.â<br /> âOr maybe Rachelleâs just talking nonsense.â Again.<br /> âYou know what I think, Ally?â asked Greg.<br /> âOh, this is going to be good,â she muttered sardonically.<br /> âI think that you didnât really want to kill Rachelle. I think you just lost your temper at a weak moment. Weâve all acted impulsively with anger at some point, right?â His tone turned soft and understanding. More mind games. âI think that you might have genuinely believed Rachelle had ordered the boys to trash your cabin. You were already very upset with her for taking Zeke from you. Youâve been feeling lost and alone. Jealousy has often got the better of you lately, and who could blame you for that?â Greg actually patted her hand.<br /> Oh, for Christâs sake, was she really supposed to buy this oh-so-caring act?<br /> âWhen you walked into the cabin and saw the chaos, it was the icing on the cake. You did what anybody would do in that situation. You snapped, and you tracked down the person you convinced yourself was responsible. That was why you fled the scene after attacking Rachelle. Once you saw her unconscious on the ground, your anger dimmed and you felt bad for what you did.â<br /> âItâs either that,â began Clint, âor you went after Rachelle with the intention of killing her but then lost your confidence at the last moment. Which is it?â<br /> âDo the right thing and tell us the truth,â encouraged Greg. âMake things easier on yourself. As soon as you confess, this will all be over. Donât you want this to be over?â<br /> Yeah, she damn well did.But making a false confession wasnât on her list of things to do. âIâve already told you what happened. I have nothing more to say.â<br /> âIâd say itâs time weââ Greg paused as the door behind her swung open. âZeke.â<br /> Oh, goody.<br /> âShe refuses to accept responsibility orââ<br /> âIâll take it from here.â Once the enforcers had left and closed the door behind them, Zeke took one of the seats opposite her, his blue eyes tired. He looked tortured, just as he had each time heâd stepped between Ally and Rachelle in the past few months.<br /> She could feel how deeply it hurt him to choose sides; his pain chafed her nerve endings like sandpaper. That was what it was like for Seers: picking up positive emotions created pleasant, warm sensations. Negative emotions, however, could cause anything from mild discomfort to excruciating pain.<br /> Despite Zekeâs hurt, Ally couldnât muster any sympathy for him. They had been in a relationship for almost eighteen months. If there was one person in this pack who knew Ally well, it was Zeke. If there was one person who should have seen through all the lies, it was him. Yet even he had jumped on the âAlly canât be trustedâ bandwagon.<br /> It was hard to believe this male had once spoken of imprinting with her. Wolves who werenât true mates could still come together and mate through imprinting. It wasnât uncommon, since shifters knew it wasnât certain that they would find their true mates. But the process of imprinting hadnât happened for Ally and Zeke, and she knew why. Although she had cared for him, sheâd never loved him.<br /> Just the same, her wolf had been comfortable and content with Zeke, but she hadnât wanted him the way a wolf wanted its mate. Their inner wolves âfeltâ on a level that humans could never surpass: fiercely, wildly, ragingly, and ferociously. Her wolfâs feelings for Zeke had never been that intense and all-consuming.<br /> âWhatâs my execution date?â Not that Ally honestly thought Matt would order that. He didnât have enough evidence to justify it, no matter how much he might wish differently.<br /> âNo one is going to execute you.â Zeke sounded so tired that she almost felt bad for him. Almost.<br /> âWell then, if youâre going to banish me from the pack, get it over with.â She could have left at any time, but she hadnât been prepared to let anyone drive her out of her own pack, particularly not some vindictive, unhinged skank. And sheâd figured that everyone would see through Rachelleâs act eventually, that because she was innocent the matter would soon fix itself.<br /> âYouâre not going to be banished.â<br /> Well, that was a surprise. âDoes this mean you doubt what your mate claimed I did?â<br /> Zeke seemed to struggle for words. âI know that it doesnât sound like you, but you havenât been yourself lately. I believe you didnât set out to kill Rachelle, but the fact is that you did assault her. Iâve given you a lot of leeway, Ally. Iâve overlooked a lot of things, but I canât overlook this. I canât.â<br /> âSo are Rachelle and I going to have a one-on-one instead?â How grand.<br /> âNo.â<br /> Of course not. Rachelle might be Beta female, but her level of dominance didnât exceed Allyâs. Rachelle wouldnât want to chance being defeated by someone of lower rank. âIâve apparently harassed and attacked her. Her wolf should be going crazy for vengeance. That alone should have caused her to challenge me.â<br /> He scrubbed a hand down his face. âA part of her feels sorry for you. She said she can understand why youâre jealous. She admits that sheâd feel just as devastated and bitter in your position. She even argued to keep you in the pack when Matt was ready to banish you.â<br /> Ally double-blinked, shocked. âShe did what?â<br /> âShe doesnât want you to be out there all alone. She told Matt and me that if you apologize and vow to end your jealous behavior, sheâll even be happy for you to escape punishment.â<br /> And that was when Ally finally comprehended just what Rachelle had been trying to accomplish all along. Not drive Ally out of the pack. Not have her banished or executedâor at least not yet, anyway. No, Rachelle had been trying to isolate Ally. Trying to take away everything that was important to her. She wanted Ally to be miserable and alone, and she wanted a front-row seat to the show.<br /> âAll you have to do is apologize,â Zeke repeated.<br /> Laughing humorlessly, Ally leaned forward. âApologize to her? Iâd rather exfoliate my skin with barbed wire and then dive into a pool of chlorine.â Something that Rachelle would know perfectly well. âBesides, Iâm not in the habit of saying sorry for stuff I havenât done.â<br /> Zeke cursed under his breath. âAlly, sheâs trying to help you here.â<br /> Ally shook her head sadly. âI never thought youâd be so easily fooled.â If his mating bond with Rachelle had fully developed, he would have sensed that she was lying. But still, he should have known that Ally was innocent. Should have known that even if Ally had attacked Rachelle in a moment of rage, she wouldnât have lied about it. âSo if youâre not going to cast me out, and sheâs not going to challenge me, whatâs the punishment for my fictional crime?â<br /> âIf you donât apologize to Rachelle, weâll be forced to relieve you of your status.â<br /> The words were like a blow to the head. Status was everything to wolf shifters; it gave their wolves a clear purpose and stability. As such, to strip a wolf of their status was a very serious thing, designed to cut deep, to hurt both the wolf and the human side. And it did. âI see.â Her tone was flat, empty of any emotion, and gave away none of her wolfâs righteous anger.<br /> âAlly, look at me.â Whatever Zeke saw in her expression made him stiffen, as if bracing himself for impact. âI didnât want things to be like this. Dammit, they donât have to be like this.â<br /> âJealousy makes people do things they wouldnât normally do,â he mumbled as he averted his gaze. The words sounded rehearsed. Ally got the feeling they were Rachelleâs words.<br /> âYou know me, Zeke. You know me. How could you believe this crap? How could you believe Iâd begrudge you for mating? Trevor and Tamaska say the one word I never wanted to hear in reference to Trevor. They both yell "mate". No, this can't be. I can't be his mate. This will never work. Now I'm panicking. I can see on his face that he is going to reject me. This is not the way my life is supposed to go. Oh, moon goddess, give me the strength to be strong and not break down.<br /> Trevor just stands there for a minute, then says, "let's get this over. As much as I want to break down and cry for hours, I refuse to let him see me cry more than he already has. I hold my head up high and walk away from him. The moon goddess granted me my request. I feel strong and I could keep myself together. At least until I get home. <br /> Once I make it to my house, I run to my mom and cry my eyes out. My mom keeps asking me what's wrong. She has been quiet since Trevor rejected us, but now she is balled up in a knot, howling and crying. I know this has to be about Trevor. He made my wolf cry twice. I will never forgive him for that. I love you and I will be here for you." I sent T a hug. I wish I could hold and pet her right now.<br /> "Mom, Dad, Trevor made my wolf cry twice. I will never forgive him for that. She did not deserve that. T told me what this pain is. There is no coming back from this. He has truly sealed our fates and our future. I am done with him. If I had it in me to hate anyone, I would definitely hate Trevor."<br /> "Like your mom said, baby girl, we will support you no matter what. You deserve better. I will stay out of it and let you handle it for now, but if he hurts you again, I will have to step in. There is no way I or my wolf can stand by and let someone hurt my pup. I'm sure that together, the ten will continue to move our pack to greater things." The alpha says. He announces all the mate connections in our group of ten. The pack is so happy for the mates, the alpha can barely get a word in. Finally, the crowd calms down, and the alpha announces Trevor and his fake mate. I look at my dad and shake my head as the alpha speaks. I don't want my dad to lose it and tell the pack that Trevor rejected me. <br /> "And finally, I would like to announce that my son, your future alpha, has also found his mate, Shana. Show them all some love." <br /> The crowd goes wild again. Ensure that everything is sparkling clean and that nothing is out of place or you know the consequences.â<br /> She warned me before setting off to jog. I let out a sigh of relief when she left and I took deep breaths to calm my heart.<br /> I had dodged the bullet by not letting her think of cutting off my college fees. As long as I was allowed that, I was okay to work and clean the packhouse for eternity.<br /> Now that she was gone, I decided to head back to my room and quickly change and run to my school before Sid or his gang of friends found me to bully.<br /> Thus, I quickly showered in the ice-cold water dribbling from the shower and changed into my clean jeans and a loose T-shirt. I only had one hoodie so I wore it anyways.<br /> Picking up my backpack, I stepped out of the territory before anyone else spotted me. That was the perk of being an early bird.<br /> I did not mind the walk to the school as it allowed me to clear my head. The narrow path was filled with a lot of trees and I had gotten into the habit of admiring the beauty of nature as I went to school.<br /> However, that morning, something strange took place.<br /> The moment I reached the school gate, I found a slew of cars parked outside.<br /> There were also a lot of men, all wearing black and having huge and massive body frames. They stood in attention outside the gates as they looked around, alert for the slightest noise.<br /> I wondered what was going on. Our school was in the most isolated place and we never had any bigshots pay us a visit.<br /> So, it attracted quite a bit of attention from all the students and even staff, all of whom were clamoring to get a good look at something. I took one step closer too, but next second --<br /> I heard somebody yelling angrily and amidst the crowd I saw my friend, Cole, rising in the air. A big muscular hand was gripping him tightly by the neck and Cole was flailing his hands and legs in the air wildly, trying to get out of the vice-like grip.<br /> My eyes went wide as I ran towards the crowd and tried pushing through the onlookers. I didn't know what happened, but Cole was one of my good friends and I could not bear to see him hurt.<br /> When I managed to get in the front I saw a huge man holding him by the throat. The man was literally made of nothing but muscles and had a stone-cold look on his face.<br /> âIf you dare raise your voice again in front of the Lycan King I will kill you.â<br /> I ran up to the man and yelled at him, âLeave Cole alone!!â<br /> He ignored me as Cole tried to speak, âIâŠI was not talking to the King, Beta Matt.â<br /> But that did not satisfy Beta or Bas//tard or something else Matt who squeezed Coleâs neck harder. I could see his veins popping out and I panicked.<br /> I simply took my backpack and swung it blindly, connecting it with Mattâs abdomen.<br /> âLeave him!â<br /> Matt obviously did not budge but he was surprised by my act. I saw him turn to look back and my gaze followed his eyes and noticed that he was looking at the dean's office.<br /> The windows were closed and the blinds were partially drawn but I saw a pair of eyes looking at the scene through the slit in the blinds. Even from afar, I could see that they were golden, the color of fire.<br /> Those eyes, however, were not looking at Matt but at me. They were fierce and held a predatory gaze which made me involuntarily take a step back.<br /> Some silent communication, maybe through a mind link seemed to pass between Matt and that mysterious guy inside the deanâs office.<br /> He dropped Cole and looked at the crowd with furrowed eyebrows and everybody just ran away, leaving me and Cole on the ground.<br /> Matt and the other men left too as I helped Cole get up.<br /> âAre you okay?â<br /> I asked Cole as he massaged his neck. He ignored my question and I looked around to find his glasses.<br /> They were lying on the ground with his backpack so I picked all his stuff up. When I straightened my back, I saw those golden eyes looking at me again.<br /> I felt an uneasy sensation gnawing at me but ignored it and went back to Cole while handing over his glasses.<br /> âGirl, are you insane? You just hit Beta Mateo of the-â<br /> I cut him off, â I donât care if he was the beta of some stupid pack. He was hurting you and nobody messes with my friend.â<br /> He took his backpack from me as I muttered, âToo many people treat us like sh//it already. We donât need more.â<br /> âHuh? What do you mean? Did something happen at home?â He asked but I shook my head, âDonât bother. It was a misunderstanding, thatâs it.â<br /> I glanceded doubtly at him and then looked back at the retreating figure of the Beta who entered the deanâs office while the rest of them stood in attention outside. Just why did every alpha, and beta treat the less privileged like dirt?<br /> The golden eyes were still on us, I could feel them on my back. They were observing us as I threw Coleâs hands over my shoulder and helped him get to the medic.<br /> I found the stare to be unnerving, not in a creepy sort of way but I imagined that face to be cold and calculative as he looked at a small girl helping her skinny friend get up from the ground.<br /> âWho are these people and why are they here anyway?â I asked Cole as we left the school ground and entered the building.<br /> âNot sure, many people say many things. Some say that the Lycan King came here to donate some money to the school, others said some Alpha is looking for able students to work as his guards. I also heard some say the Lycan king came looking for his mate.â<br /> I furrowed my eyebrows.<br /> âWhat would make the Lycan King come to our school of all places? They would go to the top institutes for that.â<br /> I muttered and Cole only shrugged his shoulders. I helped him get to the medic who examined him and my gaze flitted to the window again.<br /> The eyes were still on me and I tried not to give in to the unease that settled in my heart as we walked into the medicâs office, cutting off my eye contact with the golden-eyed guy.<br /> Little did I know he had come looking for one person specificallyâŠme.<br /> <br /> Chapter 3<br /> Callahan<br /> (Earlier the same day)<br /> I stood looking outside the glass window of my large mansion, my hands perched on the windowsill.<br /> âWhat do you see?â I asked the girl standing behind me. She was wearing an elegant white dress and her long flowy hair was tied in a loose bun.<br /> âIt does not work like that, my King,â she said again.<br /> âMake it work,â I replied and I heard the defeated sigh that left her lips.<br /> She slowly walked in my direction, looking out the window to stand beside me.<br /> âHow much time do I have?â I asked and she replied, âI am not sure, a few weeks, maybe just two days.â<br /> A mirthless chuckle left my lips, âTo think that the Lycan King is at the mercy of fate and a seer who is not of much help.â<br /> Drusilla pursed her lips. I could hear the pain in her voice as she replied, âI cannot help you if you wonât help yourself, my king. We all have our fates prewritten. Yours asks you to finally walk the path you have been avoiding.â<br /> âFateâŠdestinyâŠyour divine Moon GoddessâŠdo you even believe in being in charge of your own life?â<br /> I clenched my hands into fists and took a deep breath to control my anger. Drusilla was not the cause of my pain or misery and there was no use lashing at her.<br /> âFine, I will go take a look. But I wonât promise anything.â<br /> A relieved smile appeared on Drusillaâs face as she bowed her head, âVery well, my king. I hope you do not ignore the signs.â<br /> I shook my head and walked out of the mansion. Half an hour later, I was in a car with my beta traveling to prominent packs under our rule. Drusilla was seated beside me.<br /> âWhat is it that we are looking for exactly, my King?â Mateo, my beta, asked me as he drove the car.<br /> I let out a frustrated sigh.<br /> âAn anchor.â<br /> Mateoâs hands almost slipped from the steering wheel and the car swiveled a bit before he regained his control of the car.<br /> âMatt, I donât want to get killed, meaninglessly.â<br /> âSorry, my King. But what made you finally change your mind?â<br /> I looked outside the car window as we traveled through a less-traveled path. I did not want everybody to just clamor around us so I asked him to drive through the fairly secluded roads.<br /> I wanted to use that time to think and clear my head. As much as I hated Drusillaâs words, I knew she was right.<br /> She had proved herself time and again. I had to trust her if I did not want everything to turn to dust. Even if it meant doing the things I despised and loathed.<br /> And while we were traveling through the roads I felt an uneasy sensation crawl up my spine. It made me restless and I suddenly felt claustrophobic despite the AC being on full blast and the air being chilly around us.<br /> I felt as if my heart was being squeezed, almost immediately driving me yelled,<br /> âStop the car!â<br /> âHere? Why what happened?â Matt asked but I ignored him and threw the car door open.<br /> I almost fell down from the car as I stumbled outside and leaned against the stone wall, gasping for breath.<br /> Drusilla and Matt came running after me as I took in deep breaths to calm my nerves.<br /> What was happening to me? I had never felt such a thing before.<br /> âWe are outside a school, perhaps resting a bit should do fine. We have been traveling for five hours.â<br /> I raised my hand, âNo, I should be fine,â as I got up. But Matt and Drusilla insisted that we should take a break.<br /> Thus, Matt stationed everybody outside the gate and a few manned us as I and Drusilla went to the deanâs office.<br /> The dean almost toppled his chair when he saw me. He immediately bent his head low and greeted me.<br /> âK-King Callahan, to what do I owe the pleasure of having your company? Had you given an advanced intimation, we would have arranged a welcome party.â<br /> I waved off my hand as Drusilla pulled a chair for me to sit.<br /> âWe were just traveling and the king thought of taking a break. We would leave in some time.â<br /> The dean immediately called some people to tend to us but I ignored him. Drusilla could look at them and keep them off me.<br /> Not wanting to hear their rambling, I walked near the window and saw Matt holding some lanky kid by the throat.<br /> I shook my head. Matt had always been a hothead and was fiercely loyal to me. So I believed that the kid must have done or said something against me.<br /> Not that I cared. Everybody knew I was cursed so calling me a cursed king was not actually a far cry from the truth. I was cursed to not have a mate on that fateful night which still haunted me to this day.<br /> I had almost turned around but then I saw a girl come out of the crowd and yell angrily at Matt. She had a strange aura, one I could not quite decipher.<br /> She was wearing ordinary clothes and was too skinny and two heads shorter than Matt. But, she put her hands on her hips and glared at him, asking him to put her friend down.<br /> It was amusing to see her try to stand against the Beta of the Lycan King. Not many would do that. While Matt ignored her, she took her backpack and swung it straight at Matt.<br /> âOuch, caution, that must have hurt,â I spoke to my beta through the mind link, teasing him a little.<br /> He turned to look in my direction and I could feel him roll his eyes, âI should just put this kid and the little girl six feet under the ground.â<br /> I snorted as my eyes traveled to her. She was a feisty little one but I could not see her properly.<br /> Her hood covered most of her face. But when she saw that Matt was relentless, she bent down and picked up her backpack again.<br /> It was then that I saw her face.<br /> And the moment I saw her there was this odd pain in my chest again, the same feeling of unease I had felt earlier. But it was not just pain that I felt upon seeing her.<br /> There was some relief and an odd sense of familiarity.<br /> What was wrong? I could not understand. It was still 5 hours before school lessons ended and I did not want to show up early and be thrown more work or get bullied.<br /> But there was no choice.<br /> I let out a sigh and gloomily bid Cole goodbye for the day as we all left for our respective homes. The trees and flowers did not cheer me up as I dreaded going back early and finding Sid waiting for me with his gang to punish me for my mistake.<br /> I sneaked up in my cabin through the side, making my way through the bushes instead of walking in through the main entrance.<br /> The wooden floor usually creaked a bit as the cabin was never covered under maintenance, so mostly I had to beg someone to fix anything broken or try to somehow get it fixed myself.<br /> I did not want anybody to know I had arrived home early and wanted to just snuggle up in my bed and catch some sleep.<br /> With that in mind, I tiptoed around the bushes, carefully not to step on any wooden planks when I heard my name.<br /> I froze in my tracks, fearing somebody had seen me and would now be dragged to wash clothes or do the dishes but it was my so-called family talking about me.<br /> They were unaware of my presence so I decided to lay low and eavesdrop on their conversation. The voice came from my fatherâs office which was just near the gym.<br /> I strained my ears wondering what made them talk about me. So, I went on my knees and literally crawled through the shrubs to reach the backside of the office.<br /> I could not see the entire office because the wall and the shrubs blocked half of my view.<br /> âThis cannot be happening. We are not ready,â I heard Luna Celesteâs voice.<br /> My father looked worried as he replied, âI know, he was going to show up after two days but I just got the news that he is on the way to our territory.â<br /> The voice of my stepbrother reached me, âWhat does he want from us?â<br /> âI have no idea, son. I wish I knew so that I could have offered him something. Having him on our side is crucial to our pack.â<br /> âThe rogues are getting pretty loud and violent. They attacked a few neighboring packs last week.â<br /> âMaybe it is that he wants to come here and see how things are going? I could only try to not gag at the show of affection.<br /> Sid walked up to my father and said, âHow about we give him some gift or tribute? That will bring us in his good books.â<br /> My father got up from the chair and turned in the direction of the window. I ducked as he walked near the window but thankfully the bushes hid me.<br /> âBut he is the Lycan King, he already has money, fame, servants everything. What can we possibly give him?â<br /> I peered through the leaves and I saw a knowing look pass between my half-brother and stepmother.<br /> My heart began beating wildly as I had seen that look too many times. At first, he seems happy to see me, then his expression changes. I guess he remembers that we are no longer friends. Meanwhile, Tamaska is still going crazy in my head. Trevor and Tamaska say the one word I never wanted to hear in reference to Trevor. They both yell "mate". No, this can't be. I can't be his mate. This will never work. Now I'm panicking. I can see on his face that he is going to reject me. This is not the way my life is supposed to go. Oh, moon goddess, give me the strength to be strong and not break down.<br /> Trevor just stands there for a minute, then says, "let's get this over. I say and begin to walk away. I need to get away from him. It is taking everything in me to hold Tamaska back. She really wants to kick his butt right now.<br /> "Before you go, I order you not to tell anyone about us being mates," Trevor says in his alpha voice.<br /> Is he serious right now? Does he really not know that the alpha command does not work on our family? He really is not fit to lead our pack. He obviously did not pay attention in his alpha training, or he would know it is pointless to alpha command me. I will tell who I want to tell. I just look at him in disgust and walk away. As much as I want to break down and cry for hours, I refuse to let him see me cry more than he already has. I hold my head up high and walk away from him. The moon goddess granted me my request. I feel strong and I could keep myself together. At least until I get home. <br /> Once I make it to my house, I run to my mom and cry my eyes out. My mom keeps asking me what's wrong. To defuse the situation and give Trevor what he wants and hopefully stop this drama, I agree that I don't need the Gamma title. <br /> "Fine," I tell Trevor. "Gamma is just a title. I don't need it. Not having the title does not change who I am. I will still train the warrior and fulfill my other obligations. As far as respecting you Trevor, respect is earned, and up until recently, I thought you deserved my respect. You have shown me over the last couple of days that I was mistaken about you. So, you can keep the Gamma position. I don't want it. As far as being in love with you. That is laughable. I don't even like you." <br /> He actually smirks at me. This fool thinks he has won. He is just sad.<br /> "Well, that is settled. Seleste will not be the next gamma. And since you mentioned training the pact, that's the other thing. I do not want you training my warriors anymore. Since you are mad that you are not the Luna of this pack, how do I know you won't influence the warriors against me or continue to undermine my authority?"<br /> So that is his game plan. He wants to withdraw me of all power. Does he really not realize who I am? Everything my family has done for this pack. Now I'm slightly pissed, but I need to try to stay in control so that my father doesn't kill this fool.<br /> "Are you serious right now, Trevor? I have done nothing but make this pack better. I have spent my life learning and training so that I can strengthen this pack, and you want to take that from me because of your pettiness." <br /> I let Trevor know that he really does not have the authority to take the training position from me. I train packs under the authority of the council. No Alpha's word is above that of the council. But since he wants to be petty, I can take my strength, skill, and protection to another pack.<br /> "Save it Seleste, I have made my decision. As of now, you are nothing to this pack. This pack needs my family more than I need this. I can leave and be accepted into any pack in the kingdom, including the royal pack.<br /> Ben and the other warrior begin to speak up for me. That appears to make Trevor even more pissed. Right now, his own father and current alpha is looking at him like he has completely lost his mind and he is standing in front of the pack looking proud. I always thought Trevor was pretty intelligent. Now I think there is something wrong with him. He just will not stop digging himself into a hole. <br /> "See, that's why I need to restrict Seleste of her power," Trevor says in anger and frustration. <br /> "The warriors are more loyal to her than they are to me.
