He said quietly.<br /> "Eddie was Casey on the couch." Her voice came out robotically.<br /> "That prick!" Bastian swore. He reached out and pulled Mira into a tight hug. She put her head on his shoulder and began to cry. He was going to destroy that man. He never liked Mira's husband and thought she could do so much better - if he was being honest, by better he meant he was better, but that wasn't the point right now - Casey, he didn't know very well. She was beautiful but she reminded him of his ex-wife and when she hit on him, he bluntly turned her down by telling her he didn't date women like her.<br /> "What does that mean?"<br /> "The type I see in court." was all he said. The implication was clear, he generally represented rich older men who married the twenty-something side piece during their mid-life crisis and didn't have the sense to get a prenup beforehand.<br /> "What do you need me to do Mira?" He spoke quietly, needing her permission to get started.<br /> Mira sniffed and looked up at him. "Tear him apart."<br /> "Good girl." Bastian smiled coldly and picked up the phone. Several phone calls later and they were heading back to her house. She walked in and found them both sitting on the couch. Eddie had his head in his hands and Casey was rubbing his back. They both looked up when she appeared in the doorway, Bastian was outside and she was recording on her phone.<br /> "Mira!" Eddie started to get up. "Let me explain..." Mira held her hand up and he fell silent. Bastian had coached her on what to do and say on the way back.<br /> "Remain calm and emotionless. Ask questions and don't let him deflect or gaslight you. Stay on track." He reached over and took her hand, squeezing lightly. "You got this Bunny and I'm right beside you."<br /> "How long have you been her?"<br /> "Mira."<br /> "Answer the question!" She snapped.<br /> "A year." Casey said quietly and Eddie turned and glared at her.<br /> "Shut up!"<br /> "Thank you." She took off her wedding ring and laid it quietly on the table. She didn't care about anything else, there was no coming back from that. "I'm going to go pack a bag. All further communication between us will go through our lawyers." She laid Bastian's card on the table next to her rings. "He will let your lawyer know when I will be coming to pick up the rest of my things."<br /> "We don't need to go through lawyers Mira." Eddie's face paled.<br /> "Oh, I think we do." She turned and headed to the bedroom, pulled her suitcase from the closet, and began packing it. Eddie followed her, pleading for her to keep lawyers out of it. She pulled out her phone and texted Bastian to come in. She ignored Eddie and continued to pack her important documents, clothes, and jewelry.<br /> "All communication with my client goes through me from this point forward." Bastain came into the room and stood to one side of the door with his arms folded. At 6'2 and 210 lbs. of muscle and an air of drillaround and find out about him, Eddie backed off and went out and sat on the couch next to Casey.<br /> "We're drilled." Bastain heard him mutter which made him grin. He had no idea just how prick he was. Bastian always went above and beyond for his clients, but he would go to the ends of the earth for Mira.<br /> ....<br /> Over the next six months, Bastian began to systematically destroy Mirabelle's soon-to-be ex-husband. She had them on recording admitting to the year-long affair and Bastian had a financial auditor who combed through their joint financials and found Eddie had spent upwards of twenty-five thousand dollars on Casey, booking hotel rooms, mini-vacations, and buying her gifts. He handed the findings of the financial audit over to a private investigator who used them to find numerous security videos of the two of them at various hotels, restaurants, and public spaces all around the country.<br /> Their house was sold and the money was taken from his portion of the sale to go back to Mirabelle. Because Eddie and Casey worked together at a very prestigious law firm themselves and had used company resources to perpetuate the affair, and Bastian and Mirabelle were former employees of said firm and still on good terms with the law partners there, they had quietly passed along the findings and gotten them both fired.<br /> Eddie didn't sit by quietly while all this was going on. He showed up at Mirabelle's new condo numerous times, begging her to stop what she was doing and to show some mercy. Bastian was done with the harassment and told Mirabelle to text him the next time he showed up and keep him talking until he got there. So she did as he asked, the next time Eddie ambushed her in the lobby, she stopped to hear him out.<br /> "Mirabelle, please, I made a mistake, I'm sorry and I'm begging you to stop this nonsense, for God's sake."<br /> "No."<br /> "What do you mean no?"<br /> "I asked you if I needed to be concerned about Casey, and you said no. I asked you to step back from her, not cut her off, just step back because I was uncomfortable and you told me I had to get over it and deal with your friendship." Mirabelle smiled. "But when you wanted me to spend less time with Bast, I did. I told him I couldn't work overtime unless there was an upcoming court case. I stepped back and told him we needed some distance because you were uncomfortable and because I loved and respected you enough to do it."<br /> "So to that end, when it comes to Bastian handling the divorce and what you're now going through I suggest you get over it and deal with it. You're the one who decided to have a year-long affair, not me. You should have just asked for a divorce before you drilled her. I would have given it to you, no questions, none of this nonesense."<br /> "You were told not to contact my client!" Bastian came storming up to him.<br /> "Relax, Avery. She agreed to talk..." Eddie trailed off as he looked back at Mirabelle. "You bimbo."<br /> "My client did what I instructed her to do if you showed up at her home looking to talk to her again. Message me and keep you talking until I got here." Bastain handed him an envelope.<br /> "What's this?"<br /> "An emergency order of protection. You and Miss. Harrison are to stay at least three hundred feet away from Ms. Adrien. You have been told numerous times to stop your harassment of her by both me and your lawyer and you have refused to do so. Going forward, you'll be arrested should you decide to inflict your presence on her again." Bastian looked at Mirabelle. "Go upstairs Mira, I'll be up shortly."<br /> Eddie was reading through the paperwork. "I can't believe this." He glared at Bastian. "Seriously?"<br /> "Seriously. I can't believe you're a lawyer and are struggling with the concept of only contacting someone through their lawyer when told to do so."<br /> "I know you're only doing this because you think she'll turn to you."<br /> "I'm doing this for her because we've been friends since we were eight years old and she deserves so much better than you."<br /> "Prick."<br /> Bastian shrugged. "Yeah." He chuckled. "I am." When he got up to Mirabelle's condo he knocked and let himself in. "You okay?<br /> "I'm great. I got to say some stuff I wanted to say. Felt good." Mirabelle walked over and handed him a scotch. "And thanks to you, I don't have to speak to him ever again."<br /> "Mira, it has been my absolute pleasure." He raised his glass to her and took a sip, sitting next to her on the couch.<br /> "What would I do without you?<br /> "Find another lawyer who wouldn't be as ruthless." He grinned at her. "It's only another month and this will all be over Mira. They've set the court date."<br /> "You just keep bringing me good news." She smiled at him.<br /> Bastian threw his arm around her shoulders. "I also think his lawyer is gonna convince him to settle." He gave her a gentle squeeze. "I was thinking, when this is done, you want to head up to the cabin for a week? I think we could both use a break."<br /> "That would be incredible!" She studied him. "What aren't you telling me? Why do you need a break?"<br /> "John wants to bring in another lawyer. The current front runner is Kelly."<br /> "As in his daughter Kelly? the one who tried to baby-trap you?"<br /> "That's the one." Bastian put his feet up on her coffee table and glared at them. "If I leave and start my own practice, you'd come with me, right? Dust off your law degree and be my partner?"<br /> "Well duh. I chase you to Henderson, Bastian. I follow you when you leave. You're stuck with me for life." She smiled at him. "And I'll have your back no matter what."<br /> ....<br /> Three months later, Bastian stopped by her desk on his way in. "Hey Bunny." He smiled and passed over the tea he had picked up for her. "You ready for our cabin trip?"<br /> "Thank you." Mirabelle flashed him a smile. "Is it actually happening this time?"<br /> "We have court this afternoon and then I've cleared my calendar for the next week."<br /> "Uh-huh. Forgive me if I don't believe you." She sipped her tea and passed him some paperwork.<br /> "I swear, no more rescheduling." He promised.<br /> "I'm going with or without you this time." She shrugged. "So if you reschedule, you'll be working here without me for a week."<br /> "Threats Mira?" He raised his eyebrow.<br /> "No, Bast. Promises. My boss has approved the time off." She smirked. "It's not my problem that the new lawyer has decided you are the answer to all her problems and you indulge her. I refuse to put off my much-needed vacation for her or you any longer."<br /> "I have no choice but to "indulge her" Mira." Bastian frowned. "Henderson keeps letting her take cases on that she's not ready for and I don't want our reputation going to because Daddy wants his little girl to succeed."<br /> "Mmm." Mirabelle hummed. "Regardless, I'm leaving tomorrow at ten, with or without you."<br /> Bast tapped the papers on her head. "I'll be ready. Come on, let's go find the princess and go over this stuff one more time before we head to the courthouse."<br /> They won the case and as Bastian and Mirabelle were leaving, Kelly came running up behind them. "Bast! Come on, we have to go celebrate!" She shoved her way between them and gripped his arm. Bastian frowned as Mirabelle stumbled and just caught herself before she fell.<br /> "Oh, sorry." Kelly smirked at Mirabelle before turning her attention to Bastian again. "Please?" She drew the word out childishly and Mirabelle gave her a look of deep disgust.<br /> "One drink." Bastian allowed. "Mira? Are you coming?"<br /> "no." Mirabelle glared at him and walked away.<br /> "What's her problem?" Kelly asked. "You shouldn't let you're assistant speak to you that way, you know, it sets a bad precedence."<br /> "Mira can speak to me any way she wants to." Bastian frowned at her. "You should learn to act like an adult and not a teenager." He pulled his arm free. "I have an hour if you want to get a drink, I have to be ready to go early tomorrow."<br /> Mirabelle got in her car and let out a frustrated scream.she hated that woman. She almost instantly regretted saying no. Bastian shouldn't be left alone with her. She was willing to bet one drink would turn into several and another baby scare in a few weeks. She was dumb enough to not remember the last time.<br /> Bastian and Mirabelle had met Kelly Henderson at a Christmas party three years ago and she had latched herself on to Bastian like some kind of whiny woman-child leech. Bastian had woken up the next morning with her in his bed and a vague memory of her getting in the cab with him and taking her home. She had come into the office six weeks later and pushed past Mirabelle to slam a positive pregnancy test on his desk. John Henderson had come in as well and began yelling at Bastian about making an honest woman out of her until Bastian got over his shock and started to laugh. When asked what was so funny, he informed them that he had gotten a vasectomy five years before when he caught his pregnant ex-wife cheating on him and a DNA test proved he wasn't the father. He had done all the follow-ups and had medical proof his sweat count was zero but he would step up as long as a DNA test on the fetus proved it was his.<br /> Kelly had gotten very quiet and it was only when Henderson promised to make Bastian a partner that he backed down from quitting and suing Kelly out of existence. "She's young and stupid Bast, I'll keep her away from you." John had forgotten his end of the bargain. She knew Bastian was getting his ducks in a row to leave and doing his best to not cause waves, but that meant Mirabelle had to put up with Kelly's attitude too, and the attempt to push her down had pushed her past her breaking point.<br /> Bastain was taking far too long to make his exit, if he wasn't ready to go tomorrow morning, or if she got there and Kelly was in his bed, she would be leaving her resignation on his table, along with the check for his services as her lawyer. He had refused payment after the divorce was settled, but she had written the check anyway and planned to just deposit it into his account, knowing he would never notice.<br /> She looked up and saw Bastian coming toward her car. She seriously considered driving away but decided to see what he wanted. When he was beside her door, she lowered the window. "Are you sure you don't want to come?"<br /> "I could come, but you'd be bailing me out tomorrow."<br /> "Mira..." He sighed. "You have to be professional."<br /> "Why? She isn't."<br /> "You're better than her."<br /> "So why don't you hold her up to the standard you hold me up to Bast? Why does she get away with almost shoving me to the ground, but I'm told to be professional for expressing my displeasure at it?" She glared at him. "Thanks so much for standing up for me back there, the way you came to my defense warmed my cold, dead heart."<br /> "You're right Bunny, I'm sorry. I should have said something." Bastian felt guilt curl in his stomach. Mirabelle scoffed and folded her arms. "It's only a little bit longer Mira and we'll be able to leave."<br /> "I'll believe it when I see it Bast." She shook her head. "I'm near the end of my rope, she treats me like I'm less than a dog, and honestly, the fact that you agreed to a drink with her..." She shook her head again. "Be ready at ten, I will leave without you if you're not." She pulled out her parking space and drove off before he had a chance to reply.<br /> ....<br /> Five minutes to ten the following morning Mira pulled up to Bastian's condo building and let herself in. She had almost just kept going to the cabin, not believing he'd be up and ready to go. He had texted her a few times throughout the evening, each time letting her know he was heading home, the last time had been close to midnight. So much for one celebratory drink.<br /> She unlocked the door and let herself in, it was quiet, but she could hear the shower in the bedroom going and groaned. Of course, he wasn't ready. She was just about to turn to leave when the door opened and Bastian walked out. He froze when he saw her, guilt blooming across his face.<br /> "Mira." He croaked.<br /> "Hey Bast." She leaned on the counter, smiling humorlessly. "Should I wait and see who comes out of the shower or is it who I think it is?<br /> "It's not what you think." He started and winced as the words came out.<br /> "Seriously?" she laughed harshly. "So you didn't bring that bimbo back here last night after your one celebratory drink and drill her, knowing full well what she did to you the last time?"<br /> "I brought her back here, but..."<br /> "Nope. I don't care. It's none of my business, I'm just your PA and..." She dug through her purse and laid the envelope with her resignation and the check on the island. "At the end of my vacation, I'm not even that anymore." She placed the keys to his condo on top of the envelope and turned to leave.<br /> "Mira, let me explain." Bastian moved quickly toward her.<br /> "I told you if you weren't ready at ten I was leaving without you. I left out the part about me resigning, but I was hoping I wouldn't have to."<br /> "Mira!" Bastian chased her out into the hall and down to the elevator. "Will you just let me explain!" He caught her arm and spun her to face him. "I didn't sleep with her, I slept on the couch, she got herself wasted and I couldn't just leave her alone, she's showering because she vomited all over herself and my bed and that's why I'm not ready to go, I was cleaning up. I'm sorry, I'm packed, we just need to drop her off at her place and we can go."<br /> "Why did you have to look after her at all Bast? Why didn't you just call her father to come to get her?" Bastian blinked and she knew he had thought of that and Kelly had begged him not to. "You knew we were leaving at ten. You know how done I am!" Tears filled her eyes and she pulled herself from his grip. "Why are everyone else's wants and feelings more important than mine? Including the girl you say you can't stand?" She jammed the call button for the elevator, the doors opened and she got on.<br /> "Bunny, I'm sorry." Bastian put his hand out and stopped the doors from closing. "Just come back and let me get her out and we'll go."<br /> "I don't want to go anymore." Mira said quietly. "I want to be alone." She heard a door open and Kelly's nasally, whiny voice reached them.<br /> "Bast?" Bastian looked down the hall and then at Mirabelle.<br /> "Go on, she needs your help."<br /> "I'll come to see you later."<br /> "I wouldn't bother."<br /> "Mira we need to talk. You can't just resign and make all these decisions without discussing things with me."<br /> "Pretty sure I can." She shrugged.<br /> "Bast?" Kelly called again. "What are you doing?"<br /> "Go on." Mira encouraged him. "She's calling you."<br /> "This isn't fair Mira." Bast was starting to get angry. "You know if I had another choice..."<br /> "You had lots of choices Bast! And in every single one of them, you have put me last and made me put my head down and be the bigger person! I'm done." She pushed his hand off the door and it slid shut.<br /> Bastian swore loudly and spun around, he stormed down the hall and glared at Kelly who looked a little afraid at the look on his face. "Call a taxi and get out of here."<br /> "But I'm still sick!"<br /> "I don't care. Get out." He walked into his bedroom and gagged as the smell of alcoholic vomit hit him. Mirabelle was right, he should have just called her father, but she had begged him not to. He quickly pulled on clothes and walked back out, grabbing and throwing the bags of her vomit-soaked clothes at her feet. "Go. I have somewhere to be."<br /> He grabbed the envelope Mira had left and opened it. Reading the resignation letter quickly to see what she was putting down as the reason. Resigning due to continued disrespect from other members of the practice and the failure of her immediate supervisor to put a stop to it. He noticed the date and realized she had written it three weeks earlier. He searched his memory for what had happened and remembered he had walked in on Kelly berating her for a mistake in a legal document in the lunchroom in front of the receptionist and other PAs. Mira had let her go off and then calmly stood up and informed her that she was not her assistant and according to the electronic signature, Kelly had typed up the document herself, making the others in the room laugh.<br /> Kelly had lost it and started to yell at her. He had stepped in and asked Mira to apologize to Kelly for her tone, but hadn't said anything to Kelly about her yelling at Mira for her mistake. Mira stared at him and said very clearly. "No." and walked away. He had followed her to the office and she had shut the door and told him she would quit if he ever treated her that way again. He had apologized and begged her to please just keep the peace while he navigated leaving. She reluctantly agreed but reiterated that being treated that way again would result in her resignation.<br /> He shook his head and put his face in his hands. Looking up he saw Kelly sitting at the island watching him. "Get. Out." he growled. "Before I call the cops and have you arrested for trespassing."<br /> "I'm here at your invitation."<br /> "Which has been rescinded. Leave." He looked in the envelope again and saw another piece of paper and pulled it out, frowning as he tried to figure out why she had written him a check. When he realized what it was for, he ripped it up and began to swear. Kelly finally seemed to figure out she was being an idiot and grabbed her things. When he heard the door close, he grabbed his phone and sent Mira a text, demanding to talk to her. He stared in disbelief when it came back undelivered and called the number, only to have a voice tell him the user was busy and hang up. đđone click to continue FREE readingđ | The pain. It's too much. I had been beaten all day, spat on, and kicked; my hair has been pulled, and I have lost count of how many times they have pushed me to the floor. I should be used to it by now, right? I mean this is my life every day. I've been treated like this since I could remember, and it's as if they get a thrill seeing me getting beaten. It's a show to their amusement. Someone thought it would be funny to dump their hot coffee on me as I walked by with a tray of food back to the kitchen as I continued to clear the table, and another threw their leftover hash brown in my face because they said their coffee wasn't strong enough, and the hash brown tasted old. "Just keep walking, Livs. Just keep walking." I say under my breath. It was the only thing I could do, for if I so even tried to retaliate, I knew I was going to lose. Once done, I was ready to dash out and continue with my work, cleaning the pack's hospital, well... More like a clinic, because it was just a tiny cottage. But just as I was running through the corridor, I felt a yank on my hair, making me fall back. My body ached as I fell to the ground, and I could feel the sting on my scalp as alpha Noah dragged me by my hair toward the kitchen. Someone had just spilled a gallon of milk on the floor. The floor I had just cleaned not even five minutes ago. I needed to stay quiet. If I made even the slightest sound, I knew what was coming. I gripped my hair, hoping it would ease the pain as he dragged me along. He flung me across the kitchen, making my body crash against the counter. My body ached as it hit the counter doors, and I could hear the cracking of yet another broken rib, making me wince from the pain. I whimpered; my tears ran down unwillingly. "Stay mute, Liv. Stay MUTE." my mind said, but my eyes betrayed as I began to cry silently. "Clean this upâyou lazy mutt. Do you have any idea how important tomorrow is for all of us? I told you this place needed to stay clean, don't test me. Got it? And start making lunch." Alpha Noah sneered, kicking me on my ribs and making me cry in pain. "But," I said, regretting my words soon as they left my lips. A slap crossed my face, stinging my cheek and right eye. "Shut up. How dare you talk back? Do you want to go back to the dungeon? You obviously need a reminder of who is in authority here." he says as he clenches his jaw. My hands fisted making my eyes widen. If it's one thing I hate is being punched by him. He never stops, not until his knuckles have had enough of me. I can't recall the last time I ever felt happy. It's been hell for me ever since I could remember. Ever since my mom and brother were killed in front of my eyes. Then again, maybe I deserve all this. It was my fault they were killed since I was the one who wanted to keep wandering off. When I was seven, my mom, my brother, and I went out for a stroll. We had such a fun day, but we lost track of time, and we didn't notice that we had walked too close to the borders. By the time we realized it, we were surrounded by rogues. Mom sacrificed herself, waving at my brother and me and ordering us to run for it. That was the last time I saw her alive. Struggling and fought them off as much as she could, but she was outnumbered. She never stood a chance. Before my brother and I could get away, they ran after us and took my brother, slashing him across his chest before my eyes. I still remember the sound of his pleading voice telling me to run as his body gave out. His thin body fell as if in slow motion before me, and I could see nothing but evil smirks plastered in those rogue's eyes. I was in shock, seeing how they ran toward me. When dad finally got there with our alpha and the other guards, a rogue had already attacked me, leaving me unconscious. My brother's body was missing, my mom was dead, and I had been left unconscious for three days before I finally came. I was now left with a nasty scar across my right jaw and neck to forever remind me of that day. My dad wept for their death for so long, that he isolated himself from me. But that wasn't all. He gave in to wolves-moonshine, which is a more potent alcohol made of wolfsbane and herbs. It's much more lethal than the alcohol humans are used to. Equally dangerous to werewolves because it's addictive. Until one day when I turned fourteen and he left me as well. Everyone blamed me for their death, and they were probably right, it was all my fault. My name is Olivia Watson. I am part of the Silver Moon pack. I'm turning eighteen today. I could be celebrating. But instead, I'm here cleaning past hours. Like I do every day since the day dad died and I became the lowest-ranked in our pack. Even the other omegas look down on me. The day they told me dad died, our alpha demoted me to the lowest rank in our pack; and I... Had no say. Our alpha is not someone to be reckoned with. He's tough, and very... But I mean very temperamental. I can't say his son, Skylar, is any different. The apple didn't fall far from the tree in their case. They both hate me with passion and are not afraid to show it. Skylar is the epitome of evil meets greed. He's a narcissistic bipolar who loves to mess with the heads of every girl in our pack. The golden boy who everyone obeys whether they like it or not, for if not... They will suffer the consequences of his goons, Vincent and Cole, his soon-to-be Beta and Gamma. Skylar turned eighteen about eight months ago, and he's been eager to become alpha soon. I have a feeling that when our alpha passes down his title to him through the alpha ceremony, this pack will soon see its doom. To make it worse, Skylar has been picking on me the most these past few months. I mean, he has always treated me badly, but it's gotten worse since he turned eighteen. I don't really know what his deal is, I guess authority is making his ego grow. Impatiently waiting to become the sole authority of this pack. I do know one thing though, I have to stay away from him, no matter what... Or I will be punished, not only by him but by his girlfriend Leah. She is even worse than him. In previous days, I'd heard that a pack is supposed to look after each other, at least, that's what kids used to say I was when I was still in high school. I attended a school where it was a mixture of humans and werewolves from different packs. I saw how well other pack members got along with everyone regardless of who they were...But our pack was the opposite. Skylar and his two best friends, the future Beta, Vincent, and his future Gamma, Cole rule the school and everyone in our pack when our alpha isn't around. But it's no surprise, everyone in my pack who holds a higher rank takes advantage of their position, making the lives of others a living hell. Especially mine as I was known as the girl who got her family killed. Making me the target of their hatred. Alpha Morrison and his son, the upcoming alpha, Skylar were especially mean to me. He'd constantly say that my dad had gone mad because he couldn't overcome the loss of my mom and brother, and got stuck with a sorry excuse of a daughter to take care of, so he killed himself. I remember when I had a happy family and a home... We didn't have much, because we were all low-ranked, but we had each other. I feel so worthless knowing alpha may be right. I deserved to get treated however they wanted. Everyone in our pack has a job, but the job consists of days off as well. I hadn't had a day off in months since the day I graduated high school. Then again, I was thankful they even allowed me to finish high school because most omega's are only allowed to go to junior high and no more. I wish I could have had the chance to attend college like most kids in our pack, but I know I'm dreaming too high. I'm envious to see the older kids who turn eighteen find their mates and attend college together. Maybe one day I could find my mate. He'll take me away from all this and we can be happy. I want to be happy, but the more I think about it, the more I want to cry. I'm losing hope, and I don't know if this is all I will ever live for. Cleaning up after everyone, and taking hits from the angry pack members. Maybe... This is all that will ever be for me. Olivia I finished lunch, then cleaned, and soon was left doing other errands for more pack members. I sigh as I wipe the sweat off my forehead. I glance at the clock and realize it's really late. If I don't finish now, the rest of the omegas will begin to come in to prepare dinner. We also needed to begin preparations for the meeting that the alpha has with two other packs coming tomorrow morning. I glance at the floor as I stick the dirty rag back in my bucket. I had kitchen duty all week, and after everyone finished eating, I was responsible for cleaning the whole kitchen on my own, since the head omega doesn't like me either. She perfectly stated that the kitchen floors needed to be hand cleaned and left spotless after every meal. If she even saw a speck, I'd have to redo it. The visiting pack, the Primords, and the Dark Moon Pack are said to be one of the biggest and most powerful in our nation. They are very secretive, not even the king alpha dares to enter their territory without their consent. They say the king has hired them multiple times to finish off invading packs or kill dangerous creatures that lurk around the king's castle. Creatures no other wolf would dare, no matter how strong they claim to be. The last time they came was when I was still small, when my parents were still alive. I remember my dad had said you could feel the power they held just standing in the same room as them. No one knows much about the two packs other than that the Primords are the oldest in existence, and the other pack, The Dark Moon Pack, is The Primord's most cherished ally. The Dark Moon Pack was once attacked by powerful Lycans taking their Luna. Until the primords helped them, ending the war and helping them get back on their feet. They made a pact soon after and have been allies ever since. The two packs have become the strongest duo ever since. And both packs will be arriving either tonight or tomorrow morning to attend Skylar's ceremony this weekend. Skylst has only been anticipating this since his eighteenth birthday, and now it's finally happening, after nearly eight months. I'm scared for some reason and nervous, and my wolf won't stop jumping up and down. I just know something is going to happen. I'm not sure whether it's good or bad, but I know something is going to happen. I groaned as I felt my sore muscles, and my back ached from being hunched over. Thankfully my ribs had already begun to heal. Perks of being a werewolf, we heal fast. Our pack doesn't have a big kitchen, but it's still a lot of work for one person to take care of on their own. This is when I miss my best friend, Desiree. But unlike me and my crummy fate, Desiree turned eighteen three months ago and she found her mate. She was a humble girl, and very shy. But she changed soon as she found him. She was mated to Cole, the soon-to-be beta after all. So she stopped talking to me, and was now one of them, hating me to the core. I close my eyes and sigh as I place my hands on my knees, still sitting on the floor. I wiped my forehead from how hot it was. Summer here can go to the three digits, even at night time. My eyes widened as I heard the bucket topple over, spilling dirty water everywhere. I looked towards it, and my eyes widen to see Skylar's girlfriend, Leah laughing, "Oops, didn't see you down there, Mutt. Oh, but, then again, who can see an invisible piece of trash like you? Uggh..." she says glancing at her new white pumps, "Look at what you did? You ruined my shoes. You little, do you have any idea how expensive these are?" she yells at me as if it had been my fault. She kicks me, making a big scrape on my arm, and cutting the thin fabric of my T-shirt. I was sure those were some Jimmy Choo knock-offs, like the rest of her collection, but who am I to judge? I only cleaned her shoes once a month, nothing more. I shriek inwardly as I feel the pain, but I know better than to cry in front of her. It will only boost her ego to cause me more pain. "I- I'm sorry." I apologized, and regardless of whether it is my fault or not, I apologize, or I won't hear the end of it. Which also meant that Skylar would make sure I'd get a good beating for it as well if he finds out about this. "Clean this up, idiot. And after dinner, you'll be cleaning all of my shoes, do you understand?" I nodded as I lowered my head to avoid eye contact with her. "But I cleaned your shoes last week," I say, making her slap me. "Did I ask you if you cleaned them already? I said you're going to clean my shoes, or do I need to tell Skylar to give you another back slashing?" she says, making my body shiver. I can still feel the pain in my back last time he and Cole slashed my back with a whip. She could easily hurt me herself, she was far stronger than me as it was since she gets to train with Skylar and his group. But she was thrilled seeing him do it for her. I have never stepped on any training grounds other than when they need extra punching bags. "Did you hear me?" she yells louder making me flinch. "Y- Yes. I'll clean your shoes soon as I'm done." I stuttered as I hugged myself. "After my shoes, I want you to organize my dresses. And be extra careful not to try and steal any of my clothes or dirty them with the filthy clothes you're wearing. I need all of my shoes organized properly in my room before I wake up tomorrow morning, got it?" She rolls her eyes; my appearance probably disgusts her. I usually get pretty dirty from all the cleaning I have to do, but my clothes are really old and in bad shape as it is. They're full of stains and holes from being worn out. I haven't had new clothes since my parents died, but my mom was pretty thin, and I was able to wear most of her jeans and shirts as I began to develop through my years. The alpha allowed me to stay in our small house, but I think it was mainly because no one wanted me to sleep in the pack house. Our house was beautiful, and in good shape when mom was alive, but dad stopped maintaining it when she died. I tried to keep it going, but I have yet to learn how to do repairs, which means my roof leaks everywhere when it rains. Thank goddess it's summer. "Leah, let's go." Skylar roars by the entrance, making both of us turn toward him. He locked eyes with me, clenching his jaw and fisting his hands. I swear his eyes looked dark for some reason. It looked as if he was debating something with his wolf. But then the worst happens...A heavenly smell engulfed my nose. It was like a mixture of cedar and cinnamon. "Mate." my wolf yells in my mind. She had been quiet all day, and now she decides to say something? I curse inwardly, cursing my own fate. "No..." I whispered, making Leah turn toward me, and give me a confused look. "What did you say, Mutt?" "No-nothing," I say making her roll her eyes and turn back to Skylar. "Baby, look what this stupid mutt did. She ruined my shoes," she whines, lifting her foot with the dirty shoe. It was a tiny stain, barely noticeable, but still there. He fists his hands, clenching his jaw. "Then go change them or throw them away. Now hurry up, I don't like being late. We have to meet with my parents before dinner." he says, unwilling to look away from me. I was beginning to feel unease, like a mixture of desire and hatred, all at once as he looked at me. I know how he is though, he is the biggest idiot there is in our pack, and though Leah is the same, she doesn't waste time on beating the other girls close to death when she finds he slept with one of them. It's like they were a match made in heaven, and not even I will be able to break them apart. They are So perfect for each other. The future alpha and his luna. This pack is definitely going to hell when he takes over. "But, baby!" she responds, whining like a five-year-old, pointing towards me. "NOW!" He grits his teeth, yelling in his alpha tone. His eyes turn dark as his wolf threatens to merge. Leah and I flinch at his reaction, but all I can do is try and fight my wolf. He is not my mate, he can't be. "Fine," she responds, slumping her shoulders and letting her hands fall to her side. She was obviously not happy with his response. She was waiting for him to beat me like he always does. "I'll deal with you later, you stupid mutt. Clean this up." she kicks the bucket, hitting my knee and making a bit of dirty water inside it splash my face. He looks at me angrily, not saying a word, and turns following her out of the kitchen. "Livie! You have to go after him. He's our mate, not hers." my wolf, Freya complains. I can't help but begin to cry silently. This definitely had to be a sick joke from our goddess. "How can you ever think our future alpha, our so-called mate, could run to our side and claim us as his mate? Look at me, Freya. I'm weak, I'm useless, to him. I'm nothing but an omega. If he wanted us, he would have already claimed us." I told my wolf, making her whimper. "Instead, he's going to meet his parents to talk about Leah and him. She is his luna, Freya... Not me." I had already heard the rumor. Not intentionally, but I still did. Skylar would name Leah his luna tomorrow at the ceremony and set a date for their marriage soon after he becomes the new alpha of our pack. "That's why he never said anything. He knew we were his, are soon as he turned eighteen, months ago. Didn't he?" Freya whimpers, adding to my grief. I nod, sobbing on that dirty kitchen floor. "He knew, Freya. He knew and said nothing." I say, through staggered breath as tried to control my cry. Livie I gulped down my pride and began to clean up quickly, whipping away my tears. Sniffling, I cleaned the towels and began to clean the floors again. It was so late. I'm going to be in so much trouble. I hurried to put things away and was about to run out of the kitchen to change when the lead omega came in, making me bump into her. She hates when I cook in dirty clothes. "Hey, watch it," she yells, making me startled. "I- I am so sorry," I say, apologizing for the billionth time today. She rolls her eyes as she fixes her shirt. "You look disgusting. Why haven't you changed? The Primord pack just notified us that they are two hours away. They will be here soon, which means they will be joining us for dinner. We need to get things ready. Hurry up and change, come back and start prepping for dessert while the others start dinner. And try to look a little presentable, will you? The alpha wants you to be one of the servants; I need you to look a little decent....if it's even possible." she mumbles the last part as she looks me up and down. I lower my head and sigh, "Now! Idiot. Hurry up and change, you have ten minutes to get back here." she says, making me jump. I move from side to side in panic before I can take off running toward my house. Ten minutes- that's all I get, and I live far from here. But I'm a fast runner, if I try my hardest, I can be there in two or three minutes. "Yes, ma'am," I say as I begin to run out of the pack house and towards my house. I run, run as fast as my legs can take me, but I'm weak, I haven't eaten all day and taking off like that just makes my head pound. My eyes widen as I come close to my door and see Skylar there. His hands are crossed over his chest and he doesn't look happy at all. It's getting pretty dark now, the sun is beginning to go down, but where my house is, it's getting darker as the trees around me cover the house entirely from the sun. "Alpha, what can I do for you?" I ask nervously, looking down. He sighs, clenching his jaw. "Open the door, we need to talk, Olivia." I can't help but become enamored with his voice. I know it's the stupid pull of the mating bond, but I know what's coming. My intuition has never been wrong. My heart hopes for me to be wrong. "Y-Yes, sir," I say as I walk past him and unlock my door. My hands tremble, and I almost drop the keys, but I manage to open the door. I walk in and place my keys on the key holder by the door. I feel my arm being pulled harshly as I take a step toward the living room. Skylar throws me against the door, making it shut behind me. My head hits the door making my head hurt. The fact that I haven't eaten since I woke up this morning, and today's temperature being so hot only adds to my headache, making me feel lightheaded, and causing my headache to worsen by the impact. His body is pinned against mine making my whole body fill with the need to touch him, but fear all at once. He sniffs my neck making my eyes water. I'm instantly filled with sparks, his body ignites making him growl, sliding his lips gracefully over my neck's skin. "Mate," he whispers, making my eyes wide in shock. "S- Sky...Skylar, I."My voice must have brought him out of his trance. He lets go of me, closing his eyes and turning, giving me his back. "NO! You can't... I won't let you become my luna." he says, turning around and grabbing the back of his neck. He then turns, gripping my neck and blocking my airways. Panic invades me instantly as I struggle to breathe. What was I expecting? For him to suddenly turn into prince charming for me? My world crumbled once again. I knew it was too good to be true the second I saw him at my door. "YOU. WILL. NEVER. BE MY LUNA. I thought I was mistaken... when I turned eighteen and I got your scent. I knew it was a matter of time before you turned eighteen to confirm my suspicions. But... This!" he points between him and me as he lets me go. I fall, gasping for air, coughing and whizzing as I hold my neck. "This will never happen. Do you understand? I...don't...want you as a mate, Olivia. You hear me, right?" "Why, Skylar? I can be a good mate if you just gave me a chance. I can train a-a-and become strong." I say through tears as my emotions get the best of me. I hug myself. My wolf, Freya whimpers and I can sense that she is crying. "You're a weak link. A nobody, a dumb omega. Do you have any idea how bad that would make me look in front of the other alphas? In front of my pack? Everyone hates you. Including me." he says, hitting the wall behind me, and making my tears fall. I sat and cried on that floor like an idiot, hugging myself as he continued to give me all the excuses in the book of why I was no good for him and this pack. By the end, he makes it clear that I am nothing but scum to him. Worthless, and unworthy of the luna title for our pack. I lose focus on what he is saying as I try to comfort my wolf. She howls and whimpers as she hears his words. Then he says it... The words I knew but dreaded to hear. My rejection! "Stand up." he says as he pulls me up harshly by my arm. "I, Skylar Morrison, reject you, Olivia Watson, as my mate and future luna of the Silver Moon pack." His words make my body fall as intense pain engulfs my chest and abdomen. "And I demote you to become a slave to the dark moon pack as soon as they arrive." I feel myself being torn into pieces, leaving me not only weak but hyperventilating as I struggle to breathe. Fear fills me as I feel the mating bond break. I don't know what I feared the most, the sudden realization that I had just been rejected, or that I had now become destined to be a slave to another pack. It takes me a few seconds, but through the pain, I grunt and get on my feet. I wipe my tears away and clench my teeth to look at him. All the while he looks at me with hate in his eyes. "I, Olivia Watson, accept...your rejection; I, Olivia Watson, accept your rejection to be the future luna and I reject you as my mat. I accept your demotion to send me as a slave to another pack. Any place in hell is better than to be here in this pathetic excuse for a pack." I say, making him growl. He's ready to grab me by my neck again, but he somehow holds back, fighting his wolf. "I'll let this slide, for I know your weak body is in pain. But believe me, Olivia, next time you speak badly about my pack, you will be severely punished. I will make sure you rot in hell and suffer some more if my pack's name is on your lips ever again." he growls, standing an inch away from me. I can tell he's fighting his wolf, but I can care less. He just broke me, he broke my heart and my wolf. My body feels like it's on fire and all my bones ache as if they were being broken. The mating bond... It's breaking. "Gather your sanity, because soon as the ceremony is over, you'll be leaving with the visiting packs. It's up to them who wants to be cursed by your presence. You're no longer my problem." he says as he fists his hands. I manage to get enough strength and move towards the sofa near my entrance as he gets closer, he raises his hand and tries to caress my cheek but I move away. He growls and closes his palm. "Don't bother showing up tonight. But don't be late for breakfast, the primord and dark moon pack will be waiting to be served. I'll let the kitchen know you'll be taking dinner off," he says as I feel more tears roll down my cheeks as I look away. I knew why he didn't want me there. He would be announcing his engagement soon, they would probably be discussing the arrangement for the celebration. I sniffled, closing my eyes, "Don't you dare ridicule me, Olivia. Be on your best behavior, or I'll make sure you spend your last hours here in the dungeon without meals." he said, before opening the door and leaving me in complete solitude. Is this how I'm meant to live all my life? I have tried to be the best in everything; the best student, the best worker, and for what? I've been treated like trash, disrespected, and mistreated by everyone despite me not doing anything to them. I let myself cry, with Freya whimpering as well. My body slowly slid down until I hit the floor. The knot in my throat was too intense as I cried and regretted all my efforts. Freya, my wolf, begged me to go after him, but it was too late. He will never be mine. He belongs with Leah, and if I'm being honest- I don't think I could ever be happy with a mate like him. I want to not care anymore, but it's hard. My parents are gone, and my brother is gone. I lost my only friend, the one I thought was my friend. And now, my mate, the one our moon goddess had destined for me... didn't want me. He despised me and felt I was nothing but a curse to this pack. I was a curse and a plague to them. A plague that no one wanted around. "Come on, Livie... You need to get up. You need to fight for him. How could you accept his rejection? I know he wants us, I felt it. I just know it-" "Enough, Freya!" I yelled at my wolf. She was just as naive as I was. We were both too young and stupid to think clearly about what we really wanted. "No, Livie. You can't give up. For once in your life, fight for what you want. You deserve that Luna title. It's yours, that's why our goddess destined you to him." she yells back, making me growl. "He doesn't want us, Freya. You heard him yourself. He hates us, and so does this pack. I just... I just want to go away. I don't want to be in this pack anymore. This whole pack is useless. No one in this pack cares about you and me, Freya. No one." I yelled, whispering the last part, making her whimper. We sit in silence for a while as we both cry and wait for the pain from our mating bond to go away. "So what do we do, now?" she asks sadly, after minutes of silence. I still sat on the floor against that same wall staring into space, numb, and feeling defeated. "What can we do, Freya? We have no money, and nowhere to go. We are too weak to make it as rogues. I doubt we could make it past the night if we left." I responded, making her sigh. "What if..." she begins. I glanced at the clock, it was past the time to start dinner. I just know I wouldn't hear the end of it tomorrow for missing dinner duty. I could just hear our lead omega yelling at me for having to make the other omegas clean the kitchen. I sighed and got off the floor feeling my butt aching. "What if what?" I say, grunting as I slump my shoulders in defeat. "What if you got a job out of our pack in the neighboring town? We can save up and leave as soon as we have enough money?" she suggests. But seeing that we rarely even had time left after we do everything we are supposed to here, I doubt we could get a job out in the city. "Good suggestion, Freya. But are you willing to pull all-nighters with me? I mean... We rarely get any sleep as it is, and we are so malnourished that I doubt it will help us get any healthier." she grunts as she realizes I was right. I barely get any food in me. Our pack is gluttonous to the core. They eat as if there is no tomorrow, which meant that the omegas barely got any food for themselves as we were always the last to eat. Even then... All the omegas were allowed to eat before I did. Yes, that's how much the lead omega hated me. If I was lucky, I was left with half of one piece of toast and a bit of scrape from their plates. "We can hide food in our apron as Desiree used to, remember?'' My best friend used to hide pieces of bread in her apron so we could indulge together at least in a small piece of bread. Until she got caught and got a whipping by the guards, this, of course, was before she found Cole was her mate and stopped talking to me. Now she sits with everyone else and gets served like a royal. "I don't want you getting hurt, Livie. You're already weak as it is. Another whipping would just be too dangerous to our health." It took me nearly a week to heal from the slashes I received the last time I was whipped on my back by Skylar and Cole. It usually takes one day for most wolves, but I am so weak from my health and the lack of food, that my body takes longer to heal. To make matters worse, being rejected by my mate made my body feel even weaker. "We can't give up, Freya. Even if the pack and Skylar don't want us, I know there is more to us. I just know this can't be it for us. Even if we are meant to live as slaves for a new pack, we will keep the promise I left my mom and live happily. Just you and me now, Freya. You and me. This new pack can't be any worse than the one we live in now." "I would hug you right now if I could, you know that?" she says, making me chuckle as I feel tears roll down my cheeks. "We gotta get going and get Leah's shoes cleaned. I have a feeling we'll be up all night cleaning those stupid shoes and fixing her closet." I say as I walk to my bathroom and shower quickly, placing on my undergarments and a simple dark olive green shirt. I put on jeans that used to belong to my mom, finishing off with my worn-out sneakers. I put my hair in two braids done pretty messy since I was in a rush and had no brush. I made my way out, running toward the pack house. I hope the lead omega isn't too mad that I missed dinner preparations. I'll have to go in trying to stay unseen and be quick about it. -------------------------------- Open the app and continue reading the rest of the story . đ (It will automatically jump to the book when you open the app) đDue to FB has a limit on the amount of text, Pls Download Dreame to read Full version đ<Alpha Rick> on Dreame | LEARN_MORE | https://m.dreame.com/novel/1831360768?auto_jump=tr | 109260855466274 | Dreame Story Here | https://facebook.com/100091450006035 | 349 | 1 | 1,593,291,224,748,380 | 2024-02-05 02:00 | person_profile | eligible | 0 | 0 | NONE | 0 | 1 | 0 | 1 | Learn More | 0 | Dreame Story Here | 120206094362930161 | m.dreame.com | NONE | dco | https://m.dreame.com/novel/1831360768?auto_jump=true&utm_source=facebook_ads&utm_campaign=starmobicn121_Dreame_IOS_EN_old_facebook_read__2151143_HTzhitiao_A001_AEO_IN0_NA_HUM_M013002_0130-tfbk | 2024-02-05 05:50 | https://scontent-mia3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/425900323_1708300352995757_2244249087248421425_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_s60x60&_nc_cat=109&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=QrcFmguINXQAX-B5Xoh&_nc_ht=scontent-mia3-2.xx&oh=00_AfAEZByLrTg4ooUAd3LIYvx-fltVGqc1dtOKZvxSXUw3ww&oe=65C73CAA | person_profile | 0 | 0 | 3 | Dreame Story Here | 0 | 0 | 2024-02-05 02:00 | View Edit Delete

đđone click to continue FREE readingđ | âKALEA!! YOUâRE GOING TO BE LATE!!â my mother shouted from downstairs. I groaned and brought my pillow over my face. I hated going to school, but sadly, my mother had no idea how much. Dad knew, though. Dad knew all too well how I was being treated at school. Being adopted made it easier for people to make fun of me and bully me. I was always told that my parents didnât want me, so they gave me to a pathetic Omega who couldnât have pups of their own. My parents told me that I was adopted when I turned 12, and Iâve been treated like a plague ever since then. I always thought I was made fun of and bullied because kids were cruel, and teenagers were even more brutal. But finding out that I didnât belong here made it all the easier for them to do it. Unfortunately, they followed the lead of the future Alpha â Josh Harding. He no longer goes to school with us because he graduated two years ago, but sadly, his younger sister, who is my age, still attends the same high school. Sheâs kept the tradition of bullying me alive while Josh prepares to take over the Alpha title. Unfortunately, he canât until he finds his mate and the packâs future, Luna. âKALEA!!!â my mother screamed again. I removed the pillow from my face. âOKAY!!! IâM COMING. JUST WAIT!!â I screamed back. Donât get me wrong, I love my parents, regardless of whether theyâre my biological parents or not. They raised me, loved me, put a roof over my head, clothes on my back, and food on the table. Was my life luxurious? Of course not. But my parents did the best that they could do under the circumstances. Dad was an Omega soldier for the pack and was highly regarded, but still, he was a lower-level Omega, so many high-level ones didnât show him much respect. But Dad never let it get to him. Mom was a cook for the main packhouse, so eating was never an issue for us. She would either bring us leftovers, which Dad and I never minded, or made sure there was food in the fridge for us if she couldnât come home and cook meals. I forced myself to sit in bed because I hated that I had to go to school. The only thing that kept me going was that it was my last year. I was a senior, and we only had a week left of classes before we had to take our finals. Also, my eighteenth birthday was coming up the same day as graduation, and I was excited that I would finally meet my mate. Hopefully, he can look past the fact that Iâm adopted and just love me for who I am. It's wishful thinking, but itâs all I have right now. I go into the bathroom to do my daily routine and shower. Since I had washed my hair last night, I didnât need to do it again, so I just quickly washed my body, exfoliated, and shaved my legs. Once I was done, I entered my room to find my dad sitting on my bed. âAH! DAD!â I screamed and held the towel around my body tighter. âCanât you knock!?â I exclaimed. âIâm sorry, Two-Tone, I keep forgetting,â he innocently replied, standing to his feet. My dad towered over me, standing at 6â1. Hell, even my mother towered over me, standing at 5â10. I wasnât even 5 feet. I couldnât understand how I could be so small until I learned they werenât my parents. That in and of itself made a lot of sense. Itâs rare to be a werewolf and be as small as me, which was something else I was teased about. âUgh, enough with the nickname, Dad,â I grunted as I walked past him and into my walk-in closet. âBut it suits you,â he replies as I go through my clothes to find my outfit of the day. âDad, I get that my eyes are different colors, but that nickname is getting old,â I tell him as I pull out a pair of black cargo pants and a V-neck solid navy blue T-shirt. âSweetheart, your eyes make you unique. Itâs rare for a werewolf to have eyes of two different colors. It was the thing that drew your mother to you when she found you that day. The moment she saw them, she knew she had to bring you home,â he tells me as he stands behind me as I sit at my vanity to brush my hair. He rests his chin on top of my head and then kisses the top of it. âIâll never get tired of your beautiful eyes, Two-Tone,â he says with so much adoration in this tone. I couldnât help but smile. âCan you tell me again how I became your daughter,â I asked sweetly. âTonight, after I come back from patrol. I need to head out, and you need to hurry, eat breakfast, and go to school.â âUgh, fine.â I quickly finish getting ready, grab my bookbag, stuff all the homework due for the day into it, and head to the dining room, where Mom has bacon, eggs, and tortillas stacked on the island. âMorning, Mommy!â I squeal and kiss her cheek while grabbing a piece of bacon from the grill. âOh, hot! Hot! Hot!â I said as I played hot potato with it in my hands and teeth. âWell, serves you right! You could have grabbed one off the plate that isnât scorching hot,â she scolds as she puts a few more tortillas out. âI like it when it burns, though. Let's me know that itâs nice and fresh!â I said with a smile and made two tacos for the road. âEat at the table, Kalea!â âSorry, Mom, but Iâll be late if I donât leave now!â I said as I rushed out the front door and onto my bike. âKalea!â she shouted from the front door. âYeah!?â âI wonât be home for dinner tonight. You and your father will have soup and homemade biscuits in the fridge. Just heat the soup and bake the biscuits!â âOkay!â I responded and pedaled to school. It wasnât a far pedal, as the school was only two miles from the pack territory. The school catered to humans and the supernatural. It was never an issue since we werewolves didnât obtain our wolf counterparts until we were eighteen, and even then, most of us didnât turn eighteen until we were about to graduate, so exposure of our kind was never an issue. Those turning eighteen before graduating were pulled out and homeschooled to prevent exposure. Since my birthday was on graduation day, my parents and the Alpha agreed that pulling me out wasnât necessary. When I arrived at school, I parked my bike and put the bolt lock on it, ensuring it was secure. I adjusted my bag onto my shoulders and headed to my locker. Thankfully, it was in the back corner of the hall and opened to where it hid my face. As I was separating my books and assignments according to my classes, my locker door was suddenly slammed shut, and I was met with the front of my biggest enemy. I grunted in frustration. âWhat do you want, Hailey?â I asked while facing the Alpha's spoiled rotten daughter, Hailey Harding. âWhat I always want, duh,â she sneered as an army of tramps behind her snickered. âWhereâs your lunch money?â âSeriously? What are you, thirteen? Who bullies someone for lunch money anymore these days? Get with the program, Hailey,â I replied and opened my locker, only for her to slam it shut again. I grunt even harder and roll my eyes. I looked at her with frustration, but before I could even see it, I felt a burn on my cheek, and my head snapped to the side. I snapped my head back, shocked that she would hit me. Iâve been bullied and made fun of for most of my life. But never once had anyone ever been physical towards me. I was so caught off guard by what just happened I couldnât say anything to her. âWhat? Cat got your tongue?â she sneered. âDid you just ⌠hit me?â I finally asked, coming out of the initial shock. âI did. You best not forget who I am, Kalea. Iâm the Alphaâs daughter, which means you will show me respect. And when I ask for your lunch money, you give me your lunch money!â she shouts and grabs my bookbag. She goes through it and finds nothing. She sees my wallet and goes through it but still finds nothing. The only thing she finds are my two breakfast tacos. She looks at them disgustedly before throwing them on the ground and stomping on them. âWhy am I not surprised that youâre broke? Youâre a sad little Omega with poor Omega parents. I bet your birth parents were disgusting rogues that didnât want you either,â Hailey spat. But before walking away, she slammed my head into the lockers, making my head ring. The sound of my head contacting hard metal was so loud that it garnered the attention of the students around us and some of the faculty. âHAILEY HARDING!â one of the teachers shouted at her. Hailey and her friends froze in their spot. âWhere do you think youâre going?â he asked as he got in her face. âHi, Mr. Scout!â Hailey says and bats her lashes at him. Mr. Scout, the senior class History teacher, doesnât even spare her a glance. âSATURDAY DETENTION!â he shouts at her in his deep voice and English accent. Mr. Scout was one of those teachers who moved schools every few years, so we knew a lot about him. He wasnât part of our pack but was considered a lone wolf, so packs never bothered him, and no one ever attacked him since he always kept to himself. He was excused from his pack in England to become a teacher here in the States. âWHAT!?â Hailey screamed. âWant to make it two!?â he asked, crossing his arms across his chest. âBut Iâm âŚâ âI donât care that you are an Alphaâs daughter, Hailey,â he lowly snarled, eyes turning black. âI donât want to answer him, or any other Alpha for that matter. What you did just now was uncalled for, and by right, I should report you to the principal to have you expelled. But since only two weeks are left in the school year, I have no problem making you spend these last two Saturdays in detention and missing the graduation ceremony as your punishment. Kalea did nothing to antagonize you.â Hailey scowled in complete rage and swiftly turned her heel and left. Knowing that Saturday detention was not voluntary, she must have just given up. She definitely didnât want to miss graduation. The final bell rang, and I knew I was officially late for first period. âGreat!â I muttered and quickly opened my locker again and grabbed what I needed. âKalea, before you go,â Mr. Scout said to me. I turned to face him, a little irritated since first period was starting, and I was never tardy. âHere, a pass so you donât get into trouble with your first period teacher. I know youâre never tardy, and you shouldnât be punished for Haileyâs actions,â he said while handing me a pass. âThank you, Mr. Scout,â I replied, smiling at him. He smiled back, and we both went our separate ways. I didnât have Mr. Scoutâs class until the final period, so I wouldnât see him again for several hours. First period was Gen. Chem, and it was one of my more accessible courses. I walked in, handed my pass to the teacher and my assignment that was due, and sat in my seat. The class went by reasonably quickly when the bell rang for the end of class. Second and third period went by a little slower, mainly because they were English Comp IV and U.S. Government, two classes I despised. When the bell for lunch rang, I went back to my locker to change my books and assignments for my last two classes and then went to the cafeteria. Thankfully, everyone was too preoccupied with eating or socializing with one another so that I could get into the snack bar line without incident. I pulled out my lunch money from my sock and grabbed two pizza hot pockets, some fries, and a chocolate chunk cookie. I paid for my meal, went to the gym's vending machine, and bought myself a nice cold Dr. Pepper. As always, I went to my spot by the bleachers, where they caddy-cornered the soccer field, and ate my lunch peacefully. As I was eating, I could hear someone talking. I got up and went over to the other side of the bleachers and was surprised to see Mr. Scout on the phone. He seemed in his element and didnât notice me practically eavesdropping on his phone call. âYes, Your Highness, this was the first time ⌠I promise you; this has never happened. They are mean and cruel, but no one has ever touched her until today⌠I give my word, Sir ... I have given the brat a punishment that only people of her so-called social hierarchy would consider detrimental ⌠Yes ⌠We wonât know until her birthday. I know Her Majesty has been worried about it ⌠I will let you know as soon as I know anything ⌠Yes, your Highness. Goodbye.â I was a little confused, only hearing his side of the phone call, but why was he calling whoever he was speaking to so formally? And why was he calling them âYour Highnessâ? Still not noticing that I was there, Mr. Scout ended his phone call and walked away. The bell that signaled the end of lunch rang. I gathered my garbage, threw it away, and went to my final two classes. Of course, my last class was History with Mr. Scout, which was boring as usual. I hated any type of social studies related courses, and History was one of the worst. I willed my eyes to stay open for the last five minutes of class but failed miserably. I instantly found myself in a room I didnât recognize and several individuals circling something or someone. They all had smiles on their faces, and they were cooing. âOh, Renee, sheâs beautiful,â I heard the shortest woman say as she clasped her cheeks. âSon, you did good,â a man said as he patted a larger man on the back. âThank you, father. Mother.â âLook at her eyes!â the other woman shouted. âIt canât be,â the woman who seemed to be the center of attention gasped. âAre her eyes ⌠different colors?â a scruffy man asked. âMother, do you think?â the tall man asked the shortest woman. I was amazed that he would call her mother when she looked no older than 30, and he looked in his 20s. They all looked to be in their 20s and 30s, yet two were the parents of the good-looking, tall man. âYes, she is a pureblood,â the woman responded. âWe must protect her at all costs. She is the future of this Kingdom. The future of all werewolves.â I cocked my head to the side. âWhat is her name?â the other man, whose voice sounded oddly familiar, asked. âHer is KâŚâ âKALEA!â âHUH! WHAT!?â I shot my head up and came face to face with Mr. Scout. âKalea, I have been trying to wake you up for fifteen minutes. Classed ten minutes ago. Go home!â âOh, god, Iâm sorry, Mr. Scout!â I exclaimed and shot out of my seat while grabbing my bookbag. âI promise it will never happen again!â âItâs fine. I assume that your head injury from this morning is the cause of it?â he asks. âYeah, it might be. I should head home and take some ibuprofen,â I replied. âYes, you go do that,â he replied. I cocked my head while staring at him. Iâve known him practically my entire life because of his teaching career, but for some reason, his voice sounded vaguely familiar, and it had nothing to do with him being a teacher in my life for so long. âUm, Mr. Scout?â I turned to face him as he cleared his desk for the day. âYes, Kalea?â âNever mind, actually,â I replied immediately. If I told him that I thought he was in my dreams, he might take it the wrong way, and the last thing I wanted was for my extremely hot and sexy teacher to assume I was having dirty dreams about him. I turned and left. I stopped at my locker to grab my things and headed out to my bike, only to find that it was gone. In its place is a note. I held and read it and was fuming by the time I was done. âYOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!â I screamed at the top of my lungs. âKalea?â I turned around to see Mr. Scout again gave me a weird look. My teacher thought I was insane because I was screaming and cursing at myself. âIs everything alright?â he asked me. âNo,â I reply curtly. âSomeone stole my bike,â I answer as I stuff the note in my back pocket so he doesnât see it. âDo you need me to call your parents?â he asks, concerned. âNo, I donât want my parents to worry.â âHow do you plan on getting home then?â âI can walk. Itâs only two miles. Not very far,â I replied and adjusted my bookbag on my back. I started talking but stopped when I felt someone grab my arm. âKalea, allow me to drive you home. A young lady should never walk alone, especially when itâs going to get dark before you make it home,â he says to me. He was right. Since school got out at four in the afternoon and I had overslept in class, it was almost five in the evening. By the time I made it home, the sun would be setting. The vast forest life in this area would be much darker than in the city. âOkay, yeah, sure,â I replied, walking him to his car. I entered the passenger seat and silently sat for the six-minute drive to my house. Two more weeks. Just two more weeks. I kept chanting to myself. Then, I would get my wolf and hopefully find my mate. Then, living in this hellhole might be worth it. Chapter 2 Kalea After Mr. Scout dropped me off at home, I said thank you and goodbye and that I would see him tomorrow at school. I shut the door of his car but was surprised that he didnât leave right away. I didnât look back, but as soon as I was inside the house and closed the door, I heard his car pull out of the driveway. I figured he wanted to make sure that I got in the house safely, even though it was only a ten-foot walk. I threw my bookbag onto the couch and face-planted myself on the opposite side. I was startled to hear someone clear their throat, âAH!â I sat up and looked at the recliner to see my father. âDad! You scared the crap out of me!â I shouted at him as I sat up and held my chest. âWhy are you home? Mom said you were coming home late?â I asked him as I composed myself and sat up straight. âI was injured during training, sweetie. The Beta sent me home to rest,â he replied. Thatâs when I saw that he had a sling supporting his left arm. âDaddy, what happened?â I asked with concern as I went and kneeled next to him. âItâs a dislocated shoulder. Nothing major. It doesnât even hurt anymore. I should be fine in the morning.â âDoes mom know?â âShe does. She saw it happen. Sheâs the one who forced me to go to pack hospital.â âOf course, you didnât want to, am I right?â I asked, giving him a knowing look. Omega or not, Dad was still a werewolf, and all werewolves had some sort of pride in themâespecially male werewolves. âSince when does a werewolf want to go to the pack hospital, Two-Tone?â he replied. âUgh,â I grunted at this ridiculous nickname for me. Knowing that he would be fine, I returned to my seat on the couch and slumped while resting my head on the cushion. âKalea, what happened to your head?â he asked. I looked over at him and lifted an eyebrow in confusion. Thatâs when I remembered what happened at school with Hailey. âOh, um âŚâ âDid someone hit you?!â he growled while sitting up, his eyes turning black. âNo, Dad!â I said initially, but I knew he wouldnât buy it. âWell, not exactly,â I changed my answer. He glared at me, wanting to hear an actual answer. I puffed out my cheeks and rolled my eyes, knowing he wouldnât let this go. âFine. Hailey slammed my head against the locker because I mocked her for trying to steal my lunch money.â âTHAT LITTLE WOMAN!â my father snarled, standing to his feet while ripping away his sling. âDAD! You canât do anything! Sheâs the Alphaâs daughter! You know how highly he thinks of his kids!â I said, standing before him, knowing he would run over there and rip her head off. âAnd youâre my daughter! Physical assault against a pack member is against the law! As the Alphaâs daughter, she should know that better than anyone!â he snapped at me, trying to push me away. âDad! You going over there and starting mess is only going to make things worse for me!â I defended, making him stop and lock eyes with me. He struggled with his wolf but finally calmed down, and his eyes returned to their normal brown. âDad, sit,â I told him, pushing him back towards the recliner. He took his seat and let out a frustrated breath. He looked at the side of my head and ran his finger across what I assumed was a massive bruise I hadnât noticed. âI canât believe that brat had the audacity to harm you physically,â he said softly. âIâm okay, Dad. I promise. It wasnât even that hard, anyway. She doesnât have her wolf yet, so it wasnât as bad as it could have been. Besides, Mr. Scout saw and gave her Saturday detention this weekend. He even threatened to make her do it next week and pull her out of the graduation ceremony if she tried to talk back,â I tell him with a smirk. He snuffed but smirked as well. I knew that would make him feel a little bit better. âThat reminds me, who was that that dropped you off? Where is your bike?â âThat was Mr. Scout. My bike was stolen ⌠again, and Iâm pretty sure that it was Haileyâs doing.â âWell, tell your teacher that I said thank you. Mr. Scout seems like a good man and wolf.â âWell, he doesnât seem to have any qualms against us or the pack. He is a lone wolf, after all. That is probably why he can get away with punishing Hailey. He doesnât answer to Alpha Harding.â âSpeaking of, I will have to report this to him. Regardless if sheâs his daughter, she must obey pack laws just like the rest of us. Even more so because sheâs the Alphaâs daughter.â âDad, donât, please,â I begged him. âKalea, I wouldnât be surprised if the principal already reported it. Or even your teacher. Mr. Scout may not belong to our pack, but Iâm sure he knows pack laws more than anyone. Itâs why he can get away with being a lone wolf.â I sighed in frustration, knowing that he was right. Because Mr. Scout had given detention, it would have been reported to the school principal, who also happened to be our packâs Delta female and Haileyâs maternal aunt. She was the Lunaâs older sister, and everyone knew she couldnât stand the Alpha childrenâs bad manners. If anything, she was always fighting with the Luna because of it and saying that how she and the Alpha raised Josh and Hailey would doom the pack because of how immature they were. âIâm going to go get some homework done,â I say and stand up, but as soon as I do, I receive a mind-link. Weird, I know, but given that heâs the Alpha, he can link with all pack members, shifted or not. Kalea. Yes, Alpha? Report to my office at the packhouse at once. Yes, Alpha. Shall I bring my father with me? No, this will be quick. It doesnât require a parent. Yes, Alpha. I will be right there. The link severed, and I looked down at my father, who had a knowing gaze. He knew that the Alpha had summoned me. âIt probably has to do with Hailey,â my father told me. I nodded my head and made my way to the packhouse. This was going to be interesting. Hailey âHAILEY HARDING! ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND!!!â my father roared at me. I bowed my head immediately and sent a glare towards my aunt. When I got home from school, I wanted to change and do some major shopping for graduation, but my father told me to come to his office. When I saw Aunt Minny, short for Minerva, sitting across from him at his desk, and the dirty look she gave me when I walked in, I knew she had told him what happened at school. âShe was being disrespectful! I had to remind her of her place, Daddy!â I defended. âWith what authority? Youâre nothing in this pack!â he shouted at me and slammed his hand on the table. âJust because you are my daughter does not mean you have any kind of hearsay or authority! Who do you think you are hitting a pack member!?â he scolded me. âHoney, be gentle. Sheâs only a child,â my mother said, putting her hand on his shoulder to calm him down. He shoved her away. âThis is why she is the way she is! You coddle her too much! Sheâs going to be 18 in less than a month, and she still acts as if sheâs a child!â Aunt Minny chastised my mother. âShe assaulted another pack member!â âAnd what if it was self-defense!?â my mother countered. âSelf-defense!? Mandy admitted to doing it because she wanted to teach Kalea a lesson!â Minny yelled and threw her hands up as if she couldnât believe my mother's stupidness. âENOUGH!â my father boomed. Everyone lowered their heads except for my mother. She just turned to face away from him. âIâve called Kalea here.â âYou what!?â I exclaimed. âI want to hear her side of the story. As an Alpha, I have to hear both sides. Iâve heard what your Aunt Minny had to say, but I need to hear it from her. Itâs only fair.â âBut Dad!â âSweetheart!â my mother and I said at the same time. âI said enough!â he boomed again, and we both shut our mouths. We both shot glares of hatred toward my aunt, who didnât even seem fazed by it. A few minutes later, there was a knock on the door. âCome in!â the door opened, and in walked my worst nightmare. âAlpha, you wanted to see me?â she asked, pretending to be all nice and sweet. She looked around the room and saw me. Her facial expression was blank, and she just blinked without saying anything. âKalea, please, come have a seat,â my father said while pointing to my aunt's chair. She got up and let Kalea sit. I glared at Kalea as soon as her bottom hit the cushion, but my father growled at me. âMandy, Minny, please leave the room,â he directed my mom and aunt. They both left and closed the door behind them. âWhat can I do for you, Alpha?â Kalea asked him. âKalea, it has been brought to my attention that my daughter committed a heinous act against you. But before I can do anything about it, I need your statement on what happened. Can you do that?â my father asked with slight annoyance in his tone. âIs that really necessary?â Kalea asked. âIâm afraid it is,â he replied. Kalea sighed and nodded her head. My father turned around to grab what I assumed was the tape recorder so he could record it for the pack records since he had to. When he wasnât looking, I nudged Kalea with my elbow and stared at her. She glared right back at me. I grabbed her arm, pulled her towards me, and whispered in her ear as low as I could so only she could hear me. âYouâre going to tell him that you slipped and fell. If you even think of ratting me out, Iâll make your already sorry excuse of a life even more miserable. Do you clearly hear me, orphan woman?â I gritted my teeth. When my father turned back around, I pretended nothing happened. Kalea rolled her eyes and puffed her bangs out of her hair. âKalea, whenever youâre ready,â my father said, placing the recorder on the desk. Kalea looked at it, then me, and then back at my father. I could see the wheels turning in her head. âKalea?â âYes, Alpha. Iâm sorry. Iâm just trying to figure out if lying to prevent future bullying from your daughter is worth it,â Kalea said. âExcuse me?â my father snarled. âDid I stutter, Alpha? Hailey just told me that I should lie to you. Otherwise, she would make my life a living hell. And Iâm trying to think if I should lie or not,â Kalea responded without hesitation. This woman had a death wish. I couldnât believe she would directly oust me to my dad. âYOU WOMAN!â I screamed and grabbed her by the hair. âAHHHH!!!â I screamed while shaking her head with all of my strength. âYOUâRE LUCKY I DONâT HAVE MY WOLF YET!!! I WOULD RIP YOUR HEAD OFF!!â I screamed at the top of my lungs, threw her to the floor, and kicked her head. âHAILEY!!!â my father roared, shaking the office. The door flew open as my mother, and Minny came rushing in. âOh, my goddess, Kalea, are you alright?!â Minny asked while helping her to her feet. âMinny, take her to the pack hospital and make sure she doesnât have a head injury that can cause permanent damage,â my father growled. The door closed behind them, and I turned to my father. âDo you realize WHAT YOUâVE JUST DONE!?!â he screamed at the top of his lungs while throwing the vase on the floor. I shuddered in fear as his wolf came forward. âMicah! Micah!â my mother shouted as she tried to calm him down. Which worked, but only enough to get his wolf to retreat. My father was still very much pissed off at me. âYou realize that you attacked a pack member!? You threatened to kill her! In my office! Where there are cameras!â he yelled while getting my face. âEven your brother wasnât that stupid! He at least kept the bullying to words! He never physically touched her because he knew it was against the law to assault a pack member unprovoked! Yet you did it twice in a single day! HOW CAN YOU BE SO STUPID!? Then again, I shouldnât be surprised; you take after your mother, after all,â he spat. âMicah!?â my mother gasped. âWhat?! Did I say something wrong?! You are stupid! And it appears that your daughter has taken after you! And now, I am bound by law to punish her!â âMicah, sheâs your daughter! And sheâs only 17!â my mother exclaimed. âAnd sheâs lucky sheâs only 17! Had she been 18, I would have to turn her over to the elders, who would decide her fate!â He snapped at her, making her step back. âHailey, since youâre still a minor, I canât give you an actual werewolf punishment. But I can give you a human one. Youâre grounded. You will have no graduation ceremony, and the party will be canceled!â âBUT DAD!â âMicah, we canât cancel the graduation party! Itâs for the entire pack and all of the graduating seniors! Itâs just not just for Hailey! Donât punish the entire pack!â my mother quickly opposed. âFine, but youâre still grounded and will not attend graduation. I will tell your aunt to bring your diploma to the packhouse.â âDADDY! THIS ISNâT FAIR!!â I cried. âYOU BROUGHT THIS ON YOURSELF! Had you kept your hands to yourself, this would never have happened! I couldn't care less about that sorry excuse of a werewolf! But sheâs still a pack member, and we have laws to follow. Your mother and I condoned the bullying and name-calling. We specifically told you never to harm her physically, yet you couldnât even listen to that! Your punishment is fair and just! Now get the out of my sight!â I stood and ran out of his office crying. This was all Kaleaâs fault. All she had to do was keep her mouth shut and lie, but she couldnât even do that right. I was going to make the woman pay tomorrow. âYouâre an idiot; you do know that right?â I turned to see my brother Josh standing in the hallway with his arms crossed and leaning on the wall. âWhat do you want, Josh!?â I shouted at him. âYou just couldnât help yourself, could you? You just had to hit her?â âShe was being disrespectful!â âSheâs always disrespectful. Sheâs an Omega woman who defies her superiors. You donât think I didnât hit her for just and giggles, do you? Iâve wanted to smash her face into the ground more than I can count, but I restrained myself.â âWhy!?â âWhy? Because Daddy dearest threatened to take away the Alpha title from me if I hit her. Omega orphan or not, Kalea is still a pack member, and as future Alpha, I had to refrain from hitting her if I wanted my birthright. Now I suggest you keep your head down until graduation and the woman turns 18.â âWhy? What does it matter when she turns 18?â I asked him. His eyes darted to the side, and he let out a slight snarl. âJust do what Dad says and stop getting into trouble. Kalea will be out of our hair in due time,â he said and walked away. I furrowed my brows at him. Josh knew something that I didnât, but what? Chapter 3 Kalea After meeting with Alpha Harding, things were pretty quiet at home and school. Due to the punishment handed out by Mr. Scout, Hailey has stopped picking on me. The week went by without so much as a peep from her. With Alpha Harding having grounded her and making her miss graduation, I doubt that she would be another ruckus. Though, I was pretty sure the Alpha wouldnât prevent his daughter from attending the ceremony. Even though what she did to me was horrible, she didnât deserve to miss this big milestone. Regardless, she was barely going to graduate anyway. Just because she was the Alphaâs daughter didnât mean that title naturally came with brains. Hailey was in the bottom percentile of our entire class, which wasnât very large. The final week of school was filled with nothing but finals, and I spent the better half of the weekend in my room or at the library studying for my tests. My parents continuously asked whether or not I would be leaving Wyoming for college, and my answer repeatedly was, âI donât know.â Even though I had been accepted to several pristine universities with full-ride scholarships, I just couldnât see myself leaving the pack or my potential mate. Mom mentioned that he may not be in our pack, which got me thinking, âWhat if?â âKnock, knock,â I heard my Momâs voice as she opened the door to my room. âKalea, I cut up some fruit. Do you want some?â âSure, Mom,â I replied. She came in and placed a paper plate on my desk. There were apples, strawberries, mango, and my favorite, red dragon fruit. âThanks,â I mumble and hug her quickly before returning to my studies. âKalea, sweetheart, are you excited?â she asks me as she sits on my bed. âAbout?â I ask in return without lifting my head from my notes. âThe night of graduation. Itâs going to be your birthday that same night. Youâll finally obtain your wolf and the possibility of finding your destined mate,â she said with glee in her tone. I dropped my pen, sighed, and looked over at her. She had hearts in her pupils, and she wasnât even the one this was all falling on. âMom, I donât have time for a mate,â I tell her. I wasnât sure if I was telling her for her or myself, but either way, I wasnât in the right mindset to entertain the idea. âBesides, arenât you the one who told me that my mate might not even be in this pack?â I throw at her with a knowing look. âWell, thatâs only if you donât find him on your birthday,â she tells me. I let out another sigh. âHoney, why are you so apprehensive all of a sudden? You were always excited about finding your mate,â she says, coming over to me while combing my hair with her fingers. I loved it when she did that. I look up at her, and I canât help but notice the differences now. It never occurred to me when I was little, but now that Iâm almost 18, the differences between our physical appearance and that of my Father are too noticeable. Mom was a natural redhead, while Dad was dirty blonde. The height difference was one of the more considerable differences, and letâs not forget our eye colors. Mom had green eyes, while Dad had hazel eyes, and me, well, one eye was sapphire blue, and the other was brown. Everyone thought it was a congenital disability for a long time until my parents came clean about the adoption. âMom?â âHm?â âCan you tell me how you guys found me again?â I asked while turning to face her and hugging her waist. âAgain? But weâve told you the story now a dozen times,â she replied sweetly, combing my hair with her fingers. âI know, but I like hearing it,â I answer. I feel her eyes, but I donât bother looking up. After a few moments of silence, she squeezes and pulls me over to the bed. We sit and face each other while she takes my hand in hers. âWhen you were just a baby, your Father was on patrol one night while a few of the kitchen staff and I were in the garden gathering fruits, veggies, and herbs for a feast that the Alpha and Luna were having. I realized we needed apples for one of the fruit centerpieces the Luna wanted, so I went to the pack orchard. While I was picking some apples between the trees, I heard a faint cry from the woods behind the pack territory. I wasnât sure if it was within the border or outside of it, so I mind-linked your Father. He came running over, and I told him what I had heard. Of course, being the stubborn man he is, he figured I was hearing things. At that time, we were still heartbroken that I could never conceive. He thought my mind was playing tricks on me, but he heard the cries, too. He shushed me, and he went to go investigateâŚâ âAnd there I found the most beautiful baby girl.â We both looked up and saw my Dad standing in the doorway. We both smiled. âWhen I saw this beautiful helpless creature, I couldnât help but wonder. Could the moon goddess be blessing us because we couldnât have children? You were in this beautiful woven wool blanket lined with silk and the good kind. The blanket was lavender, and I was surprised because most women want their girls to be covered in pink. On the blanket was your name â Kalea.â âWait, what?â I said. âYou werenât the ones who named me?â âDid we never tell you this part of the story?â my Mom asked, and I shook my head. âOh, my, I thought we had. Iâm so sorry, sweetheart,â she responded. I looked up at my Dad, who had the guiltiest expression. âSo, my name was already chosen when you had found me?â I asked my Dad. He nodded his head. âI looked around where you were placed and realized it was literally an inch across the pack border. Whoever your birth parents were, they knew what they were doing. Itâs how I instinctively knew that you were one of usâa werewolf. Humans would never know about our border, let alone that just behind the trees was a werewolf pack,â he continued. âKalea, did we tell you about the note?â my Mother asked me. I looked back at her with wide eyes. âOh, I guess we havenât,â she concluded herself. âNote?â I looked back at my Father. He cleared his throat and walked out of my room. About two minutes later, he returned with a small box in his hands. He handed it to me; I took it and placed it on my lap. I looked at them both and hesitantly opened the box. I was shocked to find the lavender baby blanket and a piece of parchment paper. The blanket felt so expensive as if it were woven and made by hand, specifically for me. The paper felt expensive, too. It wasnât your run-of-the-mill notebook paper. No, this felt like it was from the Renaissance era and was used by royalty. âWe were going to give this to you on your birthday for graduation, but I think itâs best if we give it to you now,â my Father says and stands back. âHoney, I think we should leave her to read it privately,â he tells my Mom. Mom kisses my temple, and I donât even look at them. Iâm too captivated by the items in front of me. These two particular things were on me the day I was found by my parents. I heard my bedroom door close softly. I unfolded the note and was surprised that it was addressed to me. Kalea, Happy 18th birthday, my beautiful daughter. Iâm sure you are wondering what is happening and why you are now receiving this. The reason is because we, as in your Mother and I, feel that you are at the age where you will be able to understand and see things from our perspective. Kalea, we didnât give you up because we didnât want you. We gave you up because we had to protect you. However, I cannot explain why just yet; you will soon come to know what we are protecting you from. You may not believe it yet, but please know that your Mother and I love you with everything we have. You are our only pup, and it pains us both to part ways with you. Your grandparents will never forgive us, but as your parents, it is our duty to protect you at all costs. Even if that means we must live in heartbreak for years. We hope that one day, you will find it in your heart to forgive us. We love you more than words can comprehend, Kalea. We will see you again. Love, Your Father, Tobias. My mouth hung open as I finished reading the note. The handwriting was so pristine to have been written by a man I almost thought it was fake. But what made me realize it was real were the dried-up spots of water droplets on the paper. But I realized it wasnât from water but from tears. My birth Father cried while writing this to me. I held the note in my hand and picked up the blanket. I clutched it, brought it to my face, and smelled it. It smelled like a newborn baby mixed with watermelon on a hot summer day. I smiled and inhaled again. I was speechless and just held onto the items as I laid back and rested my head on my pillow. I was surprised that my birth Father signed his name on the note. Then again, the name Tobias is pretty standard. My birth Father could be anyone. I honestly wished there was a way to find them, but unfortunately, werewolf births arenât recorded like human births. And thereâs no telling where I was born, either. I could have been born in a third-world country for all I know. I take a deep breath and decide to get back to studying. I only had a week left of school before my entire world changed again. When Monday morning rolled around, and my alarm clock went off without fail, I groaned in frustration because I knew that I didnât get more than two hours of sleep after being up all night studying. I lifted my head and looked over at my bed, still seeing the baby blanket and note from my birth Father. I smiled softly and walked over to the bed. I picked up the blanket to sniff it again, but I saw a chunk missing from it. I spread it out on the bed and noticed an entire corner missing. I cocked my head to the side and found it strange. I figured I would ask my parents about it when I went down for breakfast. I folded it back up, placed it with the note back into the box, and tucked it safely under my bed. After that was said and done, I jumped in the shower to wash away the sleepiness that I was still carrying. Afterward, I felt refreshed and dressed in a simple black t-shirt, skinny jeans, and black and white Pumas. I gathered up all of my school supplies, threw them into my bookbag, and skipped down the stairs to the dining room. âGood morning, Two-Tone,â my Dad said from behind the morning newspaper. I was still surprised that these things were still being made. âGood morning, Daddy,â I reply and kiss his cheek. I was getting some milk from the fridge when I remembered the blanket. âHey, Dad?â âYes?â âMy baby blanket, the one you found me in?â âMmmhmm?â âDid you know that a chunk of fabric is missing from it?â I asked him as I poured the milk into my oatmeal. âYes, I did. Thatâs how it was when I found you,â he replied, putting the paper down and smiling at me. âOh, okay. I was just wondering,â I said and put my oatmeal into the microwave to heat a bit after adding cold milk. âAre you ready for your exams?â my Mother asked, coming from the pantry with onions and potatoes in hand. âAs ready as Iâll ever be. Only three days of finals, two days to bask in the amazing feeling of no more school and graduation!â I squeal at the time the microwave beeps. I take out my oatmeal and join my Dad at the table. âAnd donât forget your birthday, sweet girl. Do you want to do the usual?â my Mom asks. âSure!â I said enthusiastically. The usual consisted of going to my favorite breakfast diner, shopping, and then ice cream at the famous creamery. Then it would be off to graduation and then the pack party. Exams went by faster than I could have comprehended. Before I knew it, day one was already over, and I knew I had aced all of my exams for the day. As I was leaving my last class for the day and heading to my locker to empty it and take personal effects home, I couldnât help but overhear some pack members chattering by the exit. âDid you hear the rumors?â one girl asked. âAbout what?â another asked in return. âThe Alpha is going announce Josh as his successor at the graduation party!â the first one shouted in a whisper. âI heard directly from Hailey,â she added. âOh my gosh, I wonder if he will finally announce who his mate is!?â âMaybe? I mean, he will be twenty and has yet to find his destined mate. Who knows, he may end up taking a chosen mate instead.â âI wonder if itâs one of us!?â the third squealed excitedly. âNone of us are 18 yet. So many of us will be 18 in the next few weeks and during the summer. You never know!â she said with joy to her friends. âOh my goddess, youâre right!â the other two squealed with her. I just rolled my eyes as I eavesdropped on their conversation. Josh finally becomes Alpha. Strangely, I remember Alpha Harding telling him he would only pass down the title once Josh settled down. Either Josh has found a chosen mate, or the Alpha is ready to retire. I shrugged my shoulders to myself, not really caring. Josh was a piece of crap, but I half expected that heâd at least grown up since being out of high school for a few years. Yeah, he was the worst bully I had endured for two years, but I have eyes and can see perfectly. Josh was a fine-looking specimen. Hell, all male werewolves were. There was no denying that Josh had it all â the grades, the looks, the body, and, Iâm pretty confident, the anatomy. All of the girls that ever had a chance to sleep with him would never stop talking about how big he was in that spectrum. That was the furthest thing on my list of priorities. Was I a little nervous about finding my destined mate by the end of this week? Sure, what teenage girl wouldnât be nervous to possibly find the love of her life that was fated to her by the all-powerful and all-knowing moon goddess? Itâs even a teen she-wolfâs dream to find her destined as soon as she turns 18. But knowing my luck in the area of love, my mate wouldnât be here, and if he were here on the off chance, he would probably reject me. I mean, why wouldnât he? Everyone in the student body and the pack has already denied me. Why would it be any different with my mate? Either way, I wasnât going to worry about that right now. I still had more exams to study for. Iâll worry about the mate bond when that time comes. If it ever does. -------------------------------- Open the app and continue reading the rest of the story . đ (It will automatically jump to the book when you open the app) đDue to FB has a limit on the amount of text, Pls Download Dreame to read Full version đ<The Prophecy: Orphaned Princess (Prophecy Series Book 2)> on Dreame | LEARN_MORE | https://m.dreame.com/novel/490938880?auto_jump=tru | 109260855466274 | Dreame Story Here | https://facebook.com/100091450006035 | 349 | 0 | 0 | 2024-02-05 02:00 | person_profile | eligible | 0 | 0 | NONE | 0 | 1 | 0 | 1 | Learn More | 0 | Dreame Story Here | 120206094096990161 | m.dreame.com | NONE | dco | https://m.dreame.com/novel/490938880?auto_jump=true&utm_source=facebook_ads&utm_campaign=starmobicn121_Dreame_IOS_EN_old_facebook_read__2268141_HTzhitiao_A001_AEO_IN0_NA_TPOP_M013002_0205 | 2024-02-05 05:42 | https://scontent-mia3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/424949309_383557820985410_8465929367828380429_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_s60x60&_nc_cat=111&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=Hsl_cv4xwFoAX_iak4R&_nc_ht=scontent-mia3-1.xx&oh=00_AfDe3-jld9veMCf2DMsXYnomFyV4ss1GmCCvPgs0JuwWvg&oe=65C71707 | person_profile | 0 | 0 | 3 | Dreame Story Here | 0 | 0 | 2024-02-05 02:00 | View Edit Delete
