He pushed back in his seat, running a hand through his hair.
"I know I'm sorry I should have told them. It's just at first when we were having trouble I thought we'd work it out then when the divorce happened .... I didn't know how to explain it to them."
Their divorce was anything but normal Laurel had been home alone one night and men had broken into their home. A rival gang had beaten and violated her leaving her for Ivan's cousin Ezra to find, after that their marriage was strained and after seven months they finally agreed to call it quits.
"So, they don't know about the violate either?"
"They don't know you're a motorcycle club leader, they don't know you smuggle cocaine for a living, they don't know I run an opposing club and bimbo house. How would I explain the violate?"
He fell silent, deep down he still blamed himself for what happened. Part of their divorce had been because Laurel healed and Ivan had not.
————————
Laurel sighed as she climbed from her Cadillac in front of the strip club she owned and ran, she started across the parking lot just as her phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID seeing it was her mother she paused, debated not answering it.
"Hello?"
"Laurel, I've been trying to reach you!"
"I'm sorry mother I've been busy."
"Well, that's alright but tell me are you coming to the wedding?"
"I....I don't know mom I'm pretty busy and it takes days to drive there..."
"Oh please darling? You know Lydia would love to have you there and you haven't been home since Christmas."
Laurel winced she wished she could go home more often and see her family but she couldn't she just had too many secrets from them.
"I'll think about it," She said softly.
"Very well then, I love you."
"I love you too mom."
She hung up and took a deep breath, somewhere along the way her lies had snowballed out of control and now here she was at the edge of the cliff she could either jump and end the fiasco or keep up with her tirades and hope it didn't push her off.
She chose the latter, turning she crossed the parking lot and slipped back into her car. She drove across town the bar that her ex-husband Ivan owned. She sat in the parking lot for a few long minutes, hating herself for what she was about to do.
Before she lost her nerve she climbed from her car and crossed the parking lot walking inside, she bypassed the bar section where the bartender was wiping things down and two bikers sat up chairs. Her husband was the president of the Trojans MC and once upon a time she was his vice president.
She knocked on his private door, giving him a few minutes to answer and fidgeting.
"Come in."
She stepped into his office, closing the door behind her. The office looked the same, dark red carpet and dark mahogany walls with a large oak desk and a dangerous man behind it.
"Laurel, what can I do for you?"
"I...I need a favor." She said gently.
"Okay, what can I do for you?"
He wouldn't hesitate to help her, they had stayed friends after the divorce and he owed her so much. A few months ago he'd been in a war with a rival gang and Laurel had saved him in a raid, not long after that his cousin and best friend was murdered only Laurel had held him together. Ivan drank too heavily and had it not been for Laurel would have probably slipped into depression. Two weeks ago he had finally sobered up and returned to work.
"Will...will you, come home with me?" She asked with a wince.
"What back to your apartment?" He asked.
"No back to...mayport..."
Mayport falls, a rustic, hidden little town in the mountains. Population five hundred and nine and their hometown as children. Ivan hadn't stepped foot in that place since they're divorce his father lived nearby him in the city and he had no other family.
"Mayport...why?"
"Lydia is...getting married."
Her cousin Lydia was the over achiever of the family, but Ivan was still confused. He and Laurel had been divorced for five years.
"Okay, why do you need me?"
"Remember when I said that my parents don't know I still gamble on the horses?" She asked.
"Yes."
It was right after Laurel had taken a magazine that was meant for him, she'd been in the hospital betting on horses and Ivan had chastised her for it.
"Well....they also don't know about us."
"Wait, don't know what?"
"That we're divorced."
"Are you serious, Laurel?" He pushed back in his seat, running a hand through his hair.
"I know I'm sorry I should have told them. It's just at first when we were having trouble I thought we'd work it out then when the divorce happened....I didn't know how to explain it to them."
"How long?" He asked under his breath.
"How long what?"
"Will we be gone?"
"Oh, I'd like to leave maybe tomorrow. I'm sure you remember it takes two days to get there and then that puts us there on Wednesday so....a little over a week maybe?" She said with a small wince.
"Fine."
"Really? You'll do it?" She asked daring to hope.
"I'll do it because I owe you....a lot."
"Thank you."
"But you can't keep this charade going forever," He pointed out.
"I know just help me get through this."
"Of course I will."
She offered him a beaming smile, relieved that he agreed to help her pull this off and already calculating how she could get out of this mess. She'd made it the passed five years by going to as few family events as possible and when she did go she always had an excuse for why Ivan wasn't there. Work, family duties, etc. Sometime she sent herself flowers from him apologizing for not being at her side, at first it was just to get by but then it became her way of life.
"Thank you, for doing this." She said as she stood.
"I'll pick you up tomorrow, nine work?"
"Yes."
He gave a small nod and she stood there awkwardly for a minute then with one last sigh of relief turned and hurried from the room. She needed to go home and pack, it was going to be a long couple of days.
Ivan picked Laurel up the next morning in his large black suburban, she sighed heavily pushing back the anxiety that rose in her chest as he came to help with her luggage.
"You never were a light packer," He said lifting one of the three heavy suitcases.
"I can't help it, I nervous pack."
"I remember," He teased.
He tossed her bags a little roughly into the back of the vehicle before opening her door for her, she slid onto the leather seat as he walked to the driver side.
If he was nervous about the upcoming week he didn't show it, just started the vehicle and pulled onto the street starting the long drive home. Their hometown, the one they met in, fell in love in, dated in, married in.
"Will the club be okay with you gone?" She asked.
Being a president of her own MC she knew how hard it was to leave them for long periods of time, anything could happen and they both needed to be sure that they're clubs were in good hands. Her Vice President was more than capable of handling anything that arose.
"They'll be fine, Slater can handle it."
"Slater....is...is he who...he replaced...."She fell silent.
Ezra had been the vice president for years, knowing he was gone for good was hard to deal with. The three of them had been close growing up and closer as adults, Laurel missed Ezra. His easy friendship, his laugh, his soft eyes and kind nature, but Laurel had been so busy keeping Ivan together she didn't have time to be sad for herself.
"Ezra......he replaced Ezra," Ivan said gently.
"Right, Ezra."
"I was thinking about going to France in the fall, seeing how Eve is doing."
Eve was Ezra's girlfriend, a nun at a local Church where Ezra was assigned community hours, the two had fallen in love. Ezra had made sure that upon his death Eve was left with enough money to live comfortably for the rest of his life, this also provided enough money for her to adopt an orphaned baby that Ezra had cared deeply about a baby she then named Ezra.
"She calls me once a week, she said little Ezra is growing like a weed." He added.
"I bet he is."
"If....if you wanted to come with me you could," he offered with a small shrug.
"You wouldn't mind?"
"No, I think Eve would like to see you."
"It wouldn't be weird?"
"What you mean more weird than spending a week pretending to be married?" He asked.
She laughed a little, he was right the entire thing was bizarre. She should have been honest with her parents about their getting a divorce but she knew how much they adored Ivan and at the time she wasn't ready to talk about it.
"I think I have a plan for this entire thing," She offered.
"Let's hear it, I'm not doing this again."
"Well what if towards the end of our stay we started to fight? We could start small and slowly escalate. A few days after we return home I'll call mom and tell her we're getting a divorce."
"That could work I guess."
"I'm sorry about all of this."
"It's fine I owe you one....more than one actually."
"You don't owe me anything and this is my mess."
The pair fell silent with only the sound of the road rumbling to break the silence. The silence would have been more comfortable if it wasn't for the destination they were heading to and the reason they were together.
Laurel let her head fall back against the head rest of the car, her eyelids heavy. She'd been up most of the night packing and planning, trying to think of anyway to get out of this situation. She slowly felt her muscles relax and slipped into a deep, dreamless sleep.
Ivan glanced over at his ex-wife, or rather his wife for the week at least. How long had it even been since he'd referred to her as his wife. They'd been divorced so long he almost forgot what it was like being married to her, almost, but not completely and it was the almost part that kept him up at night thinking about her.
Just a few weeks ago he'd been as drunk as a fiddler, cold barely stand on his own two feet. Laurel had innocently came over to try and help him and he'd made a blatant pass at her, practically begging her to go to bed with him. She'd refused, because she wasn't as drunk as a fiddler. Now, he felt like a heel, he'd been weak, drunk, and had only wanted her because she was comfortable.
He knew Laurel, he'd been with Laurel, could remember every dip and valley on her body, her smell, her soft skin, the sounds she made, he remembered all of that and it made him comfortable asking for her help but being comfortable was dangerous, it would be too easy to slip back into that role that he once loved, her husband. He'd have to keep a tight leash on his feelings and emotions this week.
He drove most of the day with her asleep in the passenger seat next to him, it was fine with him if she slept he didn't need conversation. Just having a presence in the seat beside him was enough to keep him content on the long drive.
When he saw a small diner off the side of the road a few hours later he pulled over, he was starving and he knew that Laurel most likely hadn't ate breakfast. He turned off the car then reached over to lay a hand on her thigh giving her a gentle shake.
"Laurel, wake up."
She stirred slowly, she always was hard to wake up and a deep sleeper. Stretching she sat up better in the seat and looked around.
"What time is it?" She asked with a yawn.
"Four thirty, I need to stretch my legs and thought some food would be good."
"I'm starving," She replied undoing her belt.
She turned for the handle on the door but before she could a gentle hand on her shoulder stopped her.
"Wait, Laurel....before we go inside."
She turned to him obviously confused as he dug in his jacket pocket pulling out a red velvet box he handed it to her without looking at her.
"If we're going to pull this off you're going to need that," He said.
Taking the box she opened the lid to reveal her engagement ring and wedding band nestled inside, the same one they'd had when they were married. The same one she left on his kitchen table the night she left him for good.
"You kept them."
"Yeah, I did. I don't even know why but....I figured if we're going to do this then, you'll need them."
She pulled them from the box and slid them into place only noticing now that his was already resting snugly on his hand. It looked odd seeing the thick, gold band on his left ring finger after years of it being uncovered but he didn't seem to notice it.
"Thank you," She said softly.
"Let's get some food."
He was out of the vehicle before she could say anything else, she took just a minute to stare at her wedding rings in the light of the sunset. It felt odd having them back after so long but he was right they needed them to get away with this, rings never crossed her mind when she planned this trip but then that was Ivan.
Always thinking of little things, always looking out for her, always making sure she had her bases covered even if she was getting them involved in ridiculous scheme.
Laurel followed Ivan into the diner, he held the door for her like always and they picked a booth near the back of the diner. An older waitress with graying hair hurried to their table.
"Hello dears, what can I get you for drinks?" She asked.
"I'll have tea," Laurel said gently.
"Water," Ivan said.
The waitress hurried off and Laurel lifted her menu, scanning it for something to order. She glanced briefly at Ivan over the top of her menu, he was texting someone and she briefly wondered if it was a woman.
"Who is watching your club while we are gone?" He asked.
"Tanner," She replied, referring to her right hand man.
"Oh, yeah, of course."
She glanced at him, his tone was somewhat biting when he spoke.
"What?" She asked.
"What?" He asked, with a shrug.
"That tone, what is it with you and Tanner? Why can't you just get along?"
"I don't like him, I don't trust him and I...."He trailed off and shook his head.
"You what? You can tell me."
"Nothing, just forget it."
Before she could say anything else the waitress returned setting their drinks in front of them she offered Laurel a warm smile.
"Newlyweds?" She asked.
"What?" Ivan asked, his head snapping up.
"I asked if you were newlyweds, I'm pretty good at reading people and the way your beautiful bride keeps spinning her ring on her finger....must be a newlywed," She said with a smile.
"Something like that," Laurel offered.
"I thought so," The woman said happily.
Laurel forced a smile back and Ivan turned to his menu, hoping the woman would take the hint, take their order and leave.
"What can I get you?" She asked, pulling out a pad and pencil.
"I'll have the grilled chicken special," Laurel said.
"I'll have a steak and potatoes."
The waitress hurried off, taking their menus with her and Laurel took a sip of her tea. Ivan waited until he was sure that the waitress was out of ear shot before he spoke.
"Why did you tell her that?"
"What?"
"That we're newly weds?"
"What did it hurt? We kind of are."
"No, we're a far way from newlyweds," He replied.
She shook her head and turned her attention to her now ringing phone, she answered it quickly and he took a deep breath. Something about the older woman's questions got under his skin, his and Laurels relationship wasn't something easy to explain and now it was even worse.
"We'll be there as soon as we can mom." Laurel said.
She hung up the phone and glanced at Ivan before setting it aside.
"Mom's excited to see us," She said.
"I'm sure she is."
"I haven't been home since Christmas...it was too hard trying to make an excuse of wehre you were."
"Why did you? Why not just tell them I was a prick and I ran out on you?"
"I don't know, because.....it was too hard to tell them the truth about what happened and.....I didn't want to lie about you. You were a good husband."
He fell silent, Laurel always made him sound like a saint but that was a lie. He tried to be good to her, he had loved her but he wasn't the best husband. He missed dinner, he came home late, he went away for days on rides, he forgot an anniversary or two but he had always loved her.
"Okay, here we go."
The waitress returned settling their plates in front of them with another happy smile, it was almost unnatural to be that happy in Ivan's opinion.
"Thank you," Laurel smiled back at her, always the polite one.
The waitress hurried away and Laurel picked up her fork and began to cut her chicken into pieces. Ivan watched her for a minute or two before digging into his steak.
They exited the diner together a few hours later, Ivan heading to the driver side of the vehicle.
"Do you want me to drive for a bit?" Laurel offered.
"No, I want to get there in one piece."
"My driving isn't that bad."
"Uhhu, tell it to someone who hasn't rode in a car with you since you were seventeen."
He climbed into the driver seat and she joined him on her own side, clicking her seatbelt in place.
"I thought we'd drive a few more hours then find a motel, maybe order room service?"
"That sounds like a great idea."
She wanted to ask him what the sleeping arrangements would be, naturally she knew they wouldn't be sleeping together but she didn't know if they were getting two rooms or one. Deciding to play it by ear like she did everything else she didn't ask.
They drove for a few more hours, knocking off as many miles as possible before Ivan found a small motel near the highway. He parked the car and Laurel followed him into the office.
"I need two rooms, please." Ivan said, reaching for his wallet.
"We only have one room available but it has two beds," The skinny boy behind the desk said.
He glanced over his shoulder at Laurel and she gave him a small nod, two beds and one room was fine with her. He pulled his wallet from his back pocket and paid for their room. The kids slid the key across the counter and Ivan pocketed it before turning and Laurel followed him out the door.
The walked across the parking lot to room number seven and Ivan opened the door, motioning for Laurel to go inside first.
"Pick whichever bed you want."
She moved to the bed furthest from the door, he slid the small gold chain in place locking them both in for the night. He hung his coat up on a nearby hanger.
"Are you hungry?"
"No."
"I'm exhausted, can we just hit the sack?" He asked, toeing off his shoes.
"Yeah sure."
Laurel knew it was stupid to be nervous she and Ivan had slept together for years and now they would be in separate beds but still as she pulled off her shoes and jacket her nerves were on high alert. Her stomach turned and her hands felt shaky.
Ivan climbed onto his bed, collapsing in his jeans and t-shirt and she glanced over at him realizing then they didn't bring their suitcases from the vehicle.
"Do you want me to get the suitcases?" She offered.
"No, just leave them. Get some sleep."
She glanced down at her own jeans and t-shirt, she didn't want to sleep in them but also didn't want to take them off.
"I'll turn off the light and we can both get more comfortable, I promise I won't look." He offered.
"It's nothing you haven't seen before," She said with a shrug.
He shrugged too then, sitting up he stripped off his jeans and pulled his shirt over his head tossing it aside. She looked away, her cheeks flushing. The last time she'd seen him shirtless was a few weeks ago when she'd stopped by his apartment unannounced. He'd been drunk at the time and that made the situation a little less awkward than it was now.
He climbed under his blankets, rolling so his back was to her and she felt a little better that he wasn't looking. She timidly undid her jeans and let them drop at her feet, stepping out of them she then pulled her shirt over her head, she slipped off her bra before pulling her t-shirt back on and slipping under her own covers.
"Thank you," She said gently.
"Not a problem."
Ivan kept his back to her as he reached over to switch off the bedside lamp, what Laurel didn't know and didn't need to know was that his back may have been facing her but the television was facing him. In the small screens dark reflection he had been afforded a view that until now he hadn't realized he had missed.
The ear piercing scream woke Ivan from a deep and dreamless sleep, he bolted up right in the bed confused at first as to where he was. He wasn't in his shabby apartment he was in a shabby hotel along the highway and Laurel was in the other bed, screaming bloody murder.
He tumbled from his own bed, the blankets wrapping around his legs for a minute and tripping him. He hit the dirty, stinky floor and pushed up scrambling towards the other bed.
"Laurel, Laurel, Wake up."
Switching on the light he caught her by her shoulders, her body thrashing beneath the sheets as he gave her a firm but gentle shake.
"Laurel!"
She sat up nearly knocking him over, gasping for air and covered in sweat. She glanced around, seeming confused and pushing a shaking hand through her blonde hair.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
"Yeah, I think so."
"Nightmares?" He guessed.
"Yeah."
"I thought they had gotten better."
"So did I," She said with a shake of her head.
"When did they start again?" He asked.
"I don't know sometime around getting shot and then they got worse after.......after Ezra."
"Why didn't you tell me?" He asked, the hurt evident in his voice.
"Why would I? There's nothing you can do, I'll get through it."
She looked away, a stubborn set to her jaw but he saw the tears that were building in her pale blue eyes. Reaching out he cupped her chin with one hand, forcing her to look at him.
"It's okay to still be scared, Laurel."
She shoved him hard enough he nearly fell off the bed, then she scrambled from the bed herself moving across the room to the mini fridge she pulled out a tiny bottle of whiskey, unscrewing the lid and downing the contents.
"What's there to be scared of? You killed them all."
"Yeah I did but.....I can't undo what they did to you. You never talked about it, maybe you need too."
"It was six years ago, I talked to plenty. To the cops, the therapist, I talked to lots of people just not you."
"You could have."
"No I couldn't because you weren't there, you checked out."
For once he couldn't argue with her, he had checked out and he'd closed off. He'd been away for the day when Ezra called him, the strain in his cousins voice alerting him there was a problem before Ezra even told him the worst. He'd found Laurel, undressed, unconscious on the kitchen floor, she'd been beaten and violated. Somewhere during Ezra rattling off where she was taken by ambulance Ivan shut down.
The frantic drive to the hospital, the interviews with the police, taking her home, cleaning up the mess that was made of the kitchen and caring for her all passed in a blur. Ivan could barely remember most of it looking back, like a bad dream that his mind wanted to ignore but Laurel didn't have that luxury, she remembered everything.
At first she tried to talk to him, tried to explain why she recoiled every time he so much as glanced at her, at first he tried to listen but hearing her admit to the things they did to her was too much. Eventually it was easier to not listen anymore, not feel.
He abandoned her in the time that Laurel needed him the most and she had recovered all alone.
"Laurel....." He started to speak.
"Let's just get some sleep, I'll be fine now."
"Will it help if I leave the light on?" He asked.
"No, I'm fine, really."
She tossed the empty bottle into the trash and climbed across the bed, it was at this point he remembered her stripping for bed. She was wearing nothing but a t-shirt and black panties that did everything for her long legs.
Before she pulled the blankets over her body he caught a glimpse of just one of the many scars left behind by that night. It ran from her hip down her thigh to nearly her knee and he knew there were plenty more, he hadn't seen her this undressed in years and had almost forgotten the scars that lay there physically as well as mentally.
She leaned over and switched off the light, plunging the room into darkness. However brief and vague their conversation had been it was over. He stood and walked back to his own bed, climbing under the blankets.
"For what it's worth.....I don't blame you," She said in the darkness.
"I do."
"Ivan...."
"I should have been there, I should have known they would come after you, I should have....." He trailed off, not ready to go where his train of thought wanted to lead him.
"They would have killed you."
She knew they would have killed Ivan had he been home, she knew because it was that threat that they whispered in her ear to keep her from fighting back. Ivan had been the only reason she'd even somewhat cooperated.
"Do you really think we can pull this off with your parents?" He asked, needing to change the subject.
"Yeah, why not? We were in love once, it can't be that hard to fake it just a few days."
"Any ideas on what you'll tell them after this week?"
"I'm still thinking that through. I think maybe if mid way through this week we start to argue and not get along, if we have one good fight then I can tell them it's not working out anymore. They won't be as shocked."
"You really think that's going to work?"
"It's worth a try."
"Laurel......if...if you want to talk..."
"I don't it was a long time ago, I'm talked out."
"Okay, I'll let you get some sleep then."
He stood from her bed and she took that as a sign to slide down deeper into the blankets with a heavy sigh.
As he climbed into his own bed and switched off the light he briefly wondered how long Laurel had been struggling with the nightmares. When they got their divorce they had been getting better, if he'd known she was struggling he might have tried to hold onto his sobriety a little more and tried to help her. The woman in that bed next to his had taken a magazine for him and he didn't even know she was struggling. | LEARN_MORE | https://a.shepherdsapp.com/ad/Zmljd29ybGQvMTYxNDQ1 | 102673059542883 | Shep002 | https://facebook.com/100093452425291 | 60 | 1 | 3,063,142,387,150,209 | 2024-04-28 02:00 | person_profile | eligible | 0 | 0 | NONE | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | Learn more | 0 | Shep002 | 120210486395660659 | a.shepherdsapp.com | NONE | video | https://a.shepherdsapp.com/ad/Zmljd29ybGQvMTYxNDQ1LzIwMjQwNDI1MTAyNzI3L3BhZ2U=?adid={{ad.id}} | 2024-04-24 21:33 | https://scontent-lga3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/438737604_320601600810797_8572840718715891720_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_s60x60&_nc_cat=103&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=n9OSqTxi7ZgAb6pNFQx&_nc_ht=scontent-lga3-1.xx&oh=00_AfBKhQQxnw3-GoIjkcZWSHTnbvsShmQZR5sdgsL1-6b5Bw&oe=663440CA | person_profile | 0 | Shep002 | https://scontent-lga3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/439965733_400935869565871_6108769403206165341_n.jpg?_nc_cat=107&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=pIqtQPu35EoAb41AADD&_nc_ht=scontent-lga3-2.xx&oh=00_AfCKmpa5TKyIUCrM2x7ntC-wER0mtcaAL4o_JNmTudW7qw&oe=663456F7 | 0 | 3 | Shep002 | 0 | 0 | 2024-04-27 02:00 | View Edit Delete

| LEARN_MORE | https://a.shepherdsapp.com/ad/Zmljd29ybGQvMTYxNDQ1 | 102673059542883 | Shep002 | https://facebook.com/100093452425291 | 60 | 1 | 860,114,129,491,935 | 2024-04-27 02:00 | person_profile | eligible | 0 | 0 | NONE | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | Learn more | 0 | Shep002 | 120210486406990659 | a.shepherdsapp.com | NONE | video | https://a.shepherdsapp.com/ad/Zmljd29ybGQvMTYxNDQ1LzIwMjQwNDI1MTAyNzI3L3BhZ2U=?adid={{ad.id}} | 2024-04-24 21:33 | https://scontent-lax3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/440326058_952729533176916_4450210215262607586_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_s60x60&_nc_cat=103&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=uEsyIE9teaQAb5TgttS&_nc_ht=scontent-lax3-2.xx&oh=00_AfDf_3nOvUZSk_waskdfQ2BSsIt6flv5gCOnz93ADHDEQQ&oe=66343BF5 | person_profile | 0 | Shep002 | https://scontent-lax3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/439771685_1084325912652890_6323168921341440678_n.jpg?_nc_cat=103&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=CBf0m_DBNVEAb4URszN&_nc_ht=scontent-lax3-2.xx&oh=00_AfA-yADP-PbXnDVi86mUh9TuBKTesHJUTRzxiMo3QtuGsw&oe=66343433 | 0 | 3 | Shep002 | 0 | 0 | 2024-04-27 02:00 | View Edit Delete

He checked her phone and got floored at the message: Please come tomorrow for another prenatal care checkup!
=============

Chapter 1 Ex-girlfriend Returns

Raegan Hayes was a little absent-minded at the moment.

All she could think of since this afternoon was the doctor's words. "Congratulations! You are going to be a mom."

Suddenly, Mitchel Dixon pinched her arm. His low voice came the next second. "Come back to earth. What are you thinking about?"

Mitchel was her husband. They had been married secretly for two years. He was her superior at work, the president of the Dixon Group.

Everything had happened so fast. She was newly employed in the company when they unexpectedly got married.

At that time, Mitchel's grandfather fell seriously ill. It was then he proposed a fake marriage just to fulfill his grandfather's dying wish.

They signed a prenup, agreeing to hide their marriage from the public. Their union could be terminated at any time.

It was an unconventional thing to do. However, Raegan only considered herself lucky at that time.

Never in a million years did she think she would ever get married to the man she had a crush on for eight years. She delightfully agreed.

After their marriage, Mitchel was very busy. He spent most of his time working.

Raegan wished she could spend more time with him at home. However, she was rest assured because there hadn't been any rumors or scandals about him with women in the past two years.

Except for his mild indifference, Mitchel was a perfect husband.

Raegan had mixed feelings as she stared at the medical report.

In the end, she decided to tell Mitchel this news.

She also wanted to tell him that she hadn't learned about him for the first time two years ago and that she had been crushing on him for many years before then.

Just then, Mitchel’s phone rang. He went to the balcony and answered the phone.

Raegan checked the time and found that it was already midnight.

She felt a little uneasy. Who would call Mitchel at this hour?

Mitchel spent a few minutes on the balcony. Thereafter, he returned and changed into formal attire. His handsome face which had a clear outline made him look dignified.

He was something to see now.

"Don't wait up for me. Good night," he said finally.

What? He was on his way out? At this hour?

Raegan's grip on the report tightened as she stared at him in disappointment. Unconsciously, she withdrew slightly. After thinking for a while, she blurted out, "It's already so late."

Mitchel's fingers froze on his tie. With a faint smile, he pinched her earlobe and said, "Be good, okay? There's something I have to do. Don't wait up."

With that, he headed for the door.

"Mitchel."

Raegan quickly ran and caught up with him.

Mitchel turned around and looked at her seriously.

"What's the matter?"

There was a tinge of coldness to his voice. An icy cloud hung over them as they stared at each other.

A little distressed, Raegan asked in a low voice, "I would like to visit my grandma tomorrow. Can you accompany me there?"

Her grandmother always wanted to see her. As a result, Raegan wanted to take Mitchel there to assure her grandma they were happy.

"Let's talk about it tomorrow, okay?" Without agreeing or declining, Mitchel left in a hurry.

Several thoughts were threading Raegan's mind. She couldn't sleep a wink.

After tossing and turning for a long time, she went to the kitchen and made herself a warm glass of milk.

A few notifications from some online blogs came into her phone.

However, she wasn't interested in them. She was about to swipe them away when one of them caught her attention. The familiar name made her click on it.

The news read, "Famous designer, Lauren Murray was spotted at the airport with her mysterious boyfriend earlier today."

Lauren was wearing a bucket hat. The man's figure was vague, but the outline of his body was enough to show that he was dashing.

Raegan zoomed in on the picture. The next second, her heart dropped.

Mitchel was the man in the picture!

So, he canceled the afternoon meeting just to go pick up his ex-girlfriend from the airport?

This realization settled like a boulder in Raegan's gut, rendering her flustered.

Her hands trembled. Subconsciously, she dialed Mitchel's number.

The dial tone brought her back to her senses. Just as she was about to hang up, the line connected, and a voice came from the other end.

"Hello!"

It was a particularly gentle woman's voice.

Raegan froze for a second and then threw the phone away.

She suddenly felt sick in her stomach. Covering her mouth, she ran into the bathroom and threw up in the toilet bowl.

The next morning, Raegan went to work on time.

Mitchel had tried to get her to stop working after they got married. Stubbornly, she insisted on making her own money.

Mitchel didn't kick against her decision, but he asked her to work as his assistant, helping him with the daily chores.

The head assistant, Matteo Jenkins was left to take care of the major affairs Mitchel had.

Matteo was the only Dixon Group employee who knew about their marriage.

Since inception, only male assistants were hired for the president's office. Reagan was the first and only female. Her employment broke the protocol. As a result, other workers couldn't help but wonder if she was involved with Mitchel.

It took a while before they realized that Mitchel never gave Raegan special treatment. Strangely, this made them despise her even more.

After all, no one would last long in anything while taking advantage of their looks.

At this time, one of Raegan's colleagues handed her a document and ordered her to take it to Mitchel's office.

Mitchel didn't return home last night. Raegan was so worried that she didn't sleep at all.

All she kept thinking about was the woman who answered his phone when she called. What was her relationship with Mitchel?

Raegan already knew the answer to that, but she was still in denial.

It was difficult for her to come to terms with that fact.

Raegan tried to remain calm now. She reasoned that no matter what happened, she deserved a result that would be rewarding for all the years she spent loving Mitchel. This couldn't be all for nothing, right?

She pressed the elevator button calmly and went up to the president's office. Before she walked out of the elevator, she smoothed her hair to make sure she looked good.

She had arrived at the office, only to see that the door was ajar. A man's voice came. She halted instantly.

"Come on, man! Do you have any feelings for Raegan or not?"

The voice belonged to Luis Stevens, a childhood friend of Mitchel's.

"What do you mean exactly?" Mitchel asked in a cold voice.

"You know exactly what I mean!" Luis clicked his tongue impatiently and added, "I think Raegan is a good girl. Isn't she your type?"

"Do you want me to hand her over to you?" Mitchel asked carelessly.

"You know what, forget it!"

The scornful laughter of Luis sounded particularly harsh in Raegan's ears.

They were talking about her as if she were an object.

Raegan took a deep breath and tightened her grip on the document.

Soon, Luis's voice was heard again.

"By the way, I saw the gossip news about Lauren's mysterious boyfriend this morning. That was you, right?"

"Yes."

"Well, well, well! That woman still has you wrapped around her little finger. You always want to please her."

Luis sighed and continued to tease Mitchel. "As the old saying goes, absence makes the heart grow fonder. Tell me, did you two..."

Their conversation was like a thunder exploding over Raegan's head.

Her face turned pale and her body was as cold as ice.

The woman was indeed Lauren!

Absence made the heart grow fonder!

Every word drove a knife into her heart.

Several whispering voices filled her head at this time. She suddenly felt light-headed. Her vision became blurry.

She held the wall and took a step backward. Suddenly, the door was opened from inside.

"Raegan?"

Chapter 2 One-sided Love

Luis was the one who opened the door. It appeared he was on his way out.

Raegan balled her hands, turned to him, and nodded. "Hey, Mr. Stevens!"

Without waiting for him to respond to her greeting, she walked past him and entered the office with the document.

Mitchel was seated behind a large luxurious desk. In an expensive suit and matching tie, he looked particularly handsome.

Raegan noticed it wasn't the same suit he had on when he left home last night. How did he get changed?

With her eyes lowered, she swallowed that question and said instead, "Mr. Dixon, this is from the Marketing Department. Please sign it."

Mitchel was expressionless as he signed the document at a glance.

Raegan walked out the door as soon as he handed the document back to her. Luis was still standing at the threshold.

It wasn't until she went out of sight that Luis turned to Mitchel and said in a hushed tone, "Do you think she heard us?"

Mitchel's appealing eyes were expressionless at the moment. Obviously, he wasn't paying attention to what Luis was saying.

To Mitchel, Raegan had always been docile and never felt jealous of anyone.

Her strict obedience was all Mitchel demanded from her in exchange for treating her well.

In the elevator.

Raegan held her breath just to hold back her tears. Unfortunately, it didn't work.

She had thought two years would be enough for Mitchel to realize how much she loved him and reciprocate her love.

Now, it turned out that was just a pipe dream.

She realized she would always play second fiddle to Lauren, Mitchel's true love.

Reagan wiped her tears when the elevator halted. Save for her pale face, she looked normal when the doors opened.

She dragged herself to the break room, intending to make herself a cup of tea.

Several employees were chatting inside.

"Guys, have you heard? Lauren Murray is back."

"And who is that?"

"Oh, my! You don't know her? Lauren is the heiress of the Murray Group as well as a world-class designer. Most importantly, she's the only girlfriend Mr. Dixon has ever shown off in public. She's his first love!"

"Why is her return such a big deal? Isn't it rumored that there is something between Mr. Dixon and Raegan?"

"Raegan? She's nothing to Mr. Dixon. Mr. Dixon never admitted that he was dating her. And that is no surprise to me. After all, look at her. She's not even that beautiful. Yet, she behaves as if she's already Mrs. Dixon. What a fool!"

Standing at the door, Raegan smiled with self-mockery as she listened to them. It turned out everyone else saw the truth except her.

The love was one-sided.

"Ha-ha, have you finally woken up from your wild dream, Raegan?"

A voice of mockery suddenly came from behind. Raegan turned around to see Tessa Lloyd, Mitchel's cousin, who had always despised her.

Tessa must have also heard the employees gossiping.

The last thing Raegan wanted to do now was argue with Tessa in the company. She turned to leave, but Tessa blocked her way.

With a cup of coffee in her hand, Tessa uttered sarcastically, "Lauren is back now. Do you think Mitchel will still give you any attention?"

Raegan said nothing to that.

Seconds later, Tessa continued the ridicule. "Maybe it’s time for you to seek out another man, you pathetic fool."

Raegan clenched her fists and said coldly, "Ms. Lloyd, if you are interested in that kind of thing, feel free to pursue it yourself."

"You..."

Raegan's retort made Tessa's face change.

The next second, Tessa raised her hand and emptied the cup of coffee on Raegan.

Raegan didn't think for a second that Tessa would do something so crazy. She held up her arms just to block the liquid from her face. In no time, the coffee drenched her clothes.

Raegan frowned. "What did you do that for? Are you out of your mind?"

It was lunch break and many employees were free to watch the drama. Tessa was even more complacent when she saw growing onlookers.

She put on a mean-girl look as she said, "What makes you so smug every day, huh? Do you seriously think that others don't know you are just an orphan? The nerve of..."

Tessa was silenced by Raegan’s shove.

Her jaw dropped to the floor. She had never expected that Raegan, who was so quiet and timid, would shove her.

Tessa stuttered, "You... You pushed me? How dare you!"

Raegan eyed her and replied, "Yes, I did! It seems you need to be taught simple politeness."

Indeed, she lost her parents when she was a child. But that didn't mean she would allow someone to walk over her for it.

Wrinkles appeared on Tessa's face as she frowned in anger. As Mitchel's cousin, she was used to being fawned over and respected. This was the first time she had been treated like this.

Tessa charged at Raegan like a raging bull, poised to retaliate.

This time, Raegan was fully prepared for what was coming. She grabbed Tessa's wrist so that the latter couldn't move another inch.

Tessa was shorter than Raegan. As a result, she struggled like an octopus that had one of its tentacles stuck in a fishing trap.

Tessa cursed angrily, "How dare you put your hands on me? Who do you think you are?"

These harsh words attracted more people to the break room.

"That's enough!"

Out of the blue, a baritone came from behind. Mitchel had left his office and ran into this hullabaloo.

The entire room fell silent.

"Mitchel?" Tessa's blood ran cold at the sight of Mitchel. She had always been scared of him. Her mother also warned her against provoking him.

But when she remembered that Raegan humiliated her, she put on a pitiful expression and sobbed. "Mitchel, she bullied me."

The sunlight from outside fell on Mitchel's handsome face.

Raegan felt so grieved all of a sudden, and lowered her head to look at her clothes which were soaked with coffee.

Their gaze met in the air. With a deep frown, Mitchel looked at Raegan and said, "Raegan, have you forgotten the rules of the company?"

His ruthlessness made Raegan's breathing cease. She couldn't believe her ears.

No one dared to make a sound at this moment.

Raegan just stood straight there with her slender figure.

When she got employed here, Mitchel had told her that the Dixon Group wasn't a place for her to mess around and that he would not tolerate her making any mistakes.

Raegan could understand why he took this stand.

However, at this moment, she was desperate to know whether Mitchel had heard those hard words Tessa scolded her or he was just pretending not to have heard because he agreed to those words.

Was she truly insignificant to him?

Scared to death by Mitchel's rage, the crowd soon dispersed. A few employees were bold enough to peep from a distance, unwilling to miss the good show.

Mitchel's cold eyes made Raegan shiver from head to toe.

Raegan pinched her palm to suppress her emotions as she looked at Tessa.

"I'm sorry, Ms. Lloyd. As an employee of the Dixon Group, it was wrong of me to have offended you."

Eyeing Raegan, Tessa raised her chin complacently. "Humph! Don't think you'll be let off the hook just by making a simple apology. I don't buy..."

"The offence has nothing to do with the company. Personally, I refuse to apologize to you. Now, if you'd excuse me," Raegan chimed in.

She then walked past Mitchel without sparing him another look.

"You..."

Tessa's face turned blue after hearing what Raegan said.

Never in her years of being alive had she been so humiliated. She was always the bully, not the victim!

The humiliation was so much that scolding Raegan wouldn't appease her anger.

Pointing in Raegan's direction, Tessa shouted, "Mitchel, did you hear what that woman just said? She humiliated me, yet she's still so arrogant. Call her back. I have to teach her some manners!"

Mitchel, staring at Raegan's thin back, had an ambiguous expression at this moment.

"Enough!" he said coldly, raising his hand.

As someone who lived and breathed drama and cruelty, Tessa didn't think Mitchel was partial to Raegan just now. She assumed that Mitchel didn't care about Raegan at all.

Tessa gritted her teeth and said viciously, "Next time, I'll get someone to teach her a lesson."

"Tessa!" Mitchel's tone and squint made it a reproof.

Tessa trembled at once.

With a somber face, Mitchel said, "I'll only say it once. Forget about what happened here today. Leave Raegan alone."

The aura he exuded made her tongue go dry. All the vicious ideas she had in store against Raegan disappeared in an instant.

She stammered, "Ok... Okay, got it..."

Mitchel cast a cold glance at her and spoke to Matteo. "Irrelevant people wouldn't be allowed in here from today onwards."

Without catching the drift, Tessa flattered Mitchel. "Nice call. This is a top company. Not everyone gains access in here."

Matteo nodded to Mitchel and then walked over to Tessa. He gestured to the exit. "Ms. Lloyd, this way, please."

It wasn't until this moment that Tessa realized that she was the irrelevant person Mitchel just mentioned. She tried to speak to him, but Matteo blocked her way. The security guards then escorted her out.

They showed her no mercy. Her struggle was useless.

Meanwhile, Raegan got changed when she returned to her office.

Her heart was filled with sadness as she thought of how Mitchel looked at her minutes ago.

Closing hour soon rolled by.

Raegan took her bag and headed for the exit. However, Matteo stopped her.

He said, "Mr. Dixon has something urgent to deal with, so he asked me to drive you home."

Raegan declined the ride without thinking twice.

She was blind before, but now she could see through the situation.

In Mitchel's eyes, she was just a nobody.

How could Mitchel agree to accompany her to visit her grandmother when he didn't even care about her?

Upon arriving at the hospital, Raegan saw that the nurse was about to feed her grandmother dinner. Raegan took the job over and did it by herself.

All her life, her grandmother had been living in the countryside, enjoying a quiet life. Everything changed last month when her routine medical checkup showed that she was in need of medical care. Raegan insisted on bringing her to the city for better treatment.

Her grandmother wasn't aware of her marriage to Mitchel.

Raegan had planned to surprise her today. But as it turned out, that was no longer necessary.

Raegan waited for her grandmother to fall asleep before she left. She walked out of the hospital and waited for a taxi.

In the distance, a black luxury car pulled into the entrance of the hospital.

Raegan's eyes lit up when she saw it. She recognized that car as Mitchel's.

Did he come to pick her up?

At this moment, she forgot all the pain she had been feeling.

Were her thoughts about him all wrong? Did he care for her, contrary to the gossip?

The door of the driver's side opened and Mitchel got out.

Raegan started walking toward him with her heart brimming with joy.

Suddenly, she stopped dead in her tracks.

Mitchel had just walked over to the other side and carried a woman out of the car.

Worry and compassion were written all over his handsome face.

This wiped the smile on Raegan's face. Her heart sank.

Chapter 3 Let's Divorce

Mitchel's tall and straight figure got closer and closer to Raegan. And then, without saying a word, he strode past Raegan.

It was hard to tell if Mitchel saw Raegan or just ignored her.

Regardless, Raegan noticed that the woman in his arms was the same one who had been photographed with him yesterday.

She was Lauren.

Raegan's shoes felt like they were made of lead as she walked away.

She lost all awareness of her surroundings. She got into a taxi absentmindedly.

Suddenly, the driver uttered, "Ma'am, where to?"

Raegan was stunned for a moment.

She didn't want to go back to Serenity Villas. It was only a matter of time before that place stopped being her home.

After a while, she replied, "Please take me to Crystal Bay."

She had purchased an apartment at Crystal Bay after getting married to Mitchel.

At the time, she had hopes of bringing her grandmother to the city, so she bought the apartment on mortgage. It wasn't that big, but it had more than enough space for two people.

Mitchel didn't understand why she wanted to buy an apartment. He offered to give her a bigger one, but she declined.

Looking back now, she realized that buying that apartment was the only wise decision she had ever made in the last two years.

When she arrived at the apartment complex, Raegan sat in the park alone, trying to cool herself down.

The memories of the past two years were bittersweet.

Two years had passed in the blink of an eye even though it was more than seven hundred days and nights.

Love could move mountains, they said.

Yet, her love didn't move that stone of a man. She finally realized what a fool she had been. She had been making herself a laughingstock in front of everyone.

It was already late in the night before Raegan finally decided to go into her apartment.

As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, she saw Mitchel standing in front of the door.

His sleeves were rolled up casually, and the top buttons of his shirt were undone, which revealed his long neck and part of his collarbone. He was leaning on the wall by the door, his handsome face straight.

Raegan froze for a moment.

Why was he here? Didn't she see him at the hospital with Lauren? What brought him here?

Their eyes met. With his coat draped over his arm and one of his hands in his pocket, Mitchel squinted at her.

"Why didn't you answer the phone?" he asked, sounding a little grumpy like someone who hadn't slept in a long time.

Raegan took out her phone and saw she had accidentally put it on DND.

There were five missed calls from Mitchel.

This marked the first time in their two-year marriage.

Mitchel blew up her phone because he couldn't find her? Surprising!

Before today, she would have been overjoyed by this. People would've thought she won the lottery.

But now, she just threw her phone back into her bag, folded her arms, and said in a hoarse voice, "I didn't hear it ring."

Mitchel raised his hand to check the time on the watch, and said impatiently, "I've been looking for you for two hours."

After arranging everything for Lauren, he returned home to find an empty house. He looked for Raegan everywhere. When he couldn't find her, he asked Matteo to check the surveillance footage of all the roads that led away from the company.

He later found out that Raegan went to Crystal Bay without telling him.

"Next time, tell me when you are coming here, okay? Let's go home now." After that, Mitchel walked toward the elevator without sparing her another glance.

He meant to go back to Serenity Villas.

Raegan didn't move an inch. She just stared at his broad back and pondered reluctantly.

Would they have a future?

Mitchell turned around, only to see that Raegan hadn't taken a single step. He frowned and asked, "Can't you walk? Do you want me to carry you instead?"

The light in the corridor illuminated his face, making his side profile almost impeccable.

Raegan took a deep breath and said, "Let's divorce."

"What do you mean?"

Mitchel's voice was cold, and his handsome face changed immediately.

"I want to move into my own place. After all, we will be strangers soon."

Raegan forced a smile, but her heart was aching as if someone was tearing it apart bit by bit.

"We will be strangers?"

Mitchel smiled coldly. "Raegan, what do you think our relationship is now?"

His questioning left Raegan stunned for a moment.

Mitchel had made it very clear to her from the very beginning. This facade of their marriage had happened by mutual agreement. There was no love. In the eyes of others, they were nothing more than just a superior and a subordinate.

Mitchel was quite the catch in Ardlens. Many young ladies longed for his love and were even willing to throw themselves at him.

His question just now reminded her of that fact. Was he afraid that she wouldn't let him go that easily? If that was the case, he couldn't be more wrong...

After biting her lower lip to conceal her bitterness, Raegan said, "I'm sorry, Mr. Dixon. I was giving it too much thought. Anyway, please leave me alone from now on. You don't have to come here again."

After saying that, Raegan couldn't help but burst into tears.

How could she not be sad when she was cutting ties with the man she had loved for a decade? It was such a long time.

Regardless of how difficult it was, she knew it was time to let go.

It was high time she stopped being a fool.

Strangely, the light in the corridor began flickering.

The deathly stare Mitchel was giving Raegan right now made the atmosphere seem like the moment before an attack in a horror movie.

Although he understood that Raegan sometimes could throw a tantrum, he felt that she had just crossed the line now.

His eyes shone like blazing torches at this moment. But when he saw the tears in her eyes, the rage inside him extinguished in an instant. He said in a low voice, "If this is about what happened between you and Tessa, I..."

"No, this isn't about her. Mr. Dixon, please leave now."

A lot of things happened between them. And the incident with Tessa didn't come close to any.

Raegan felt exhausted. She passed by Mitchel and was about to open the door.

Yet, Mitchel was displeased with her stubbornness.

He loosened his tie irritably. He then took a step forward and grabbed her wrist.

"Stop this, will you?"

A second later, he put his arm around her shoulder and pulled her into his arms.

He instantly realized that she was burning up like someone who had been set on fire.

"You have a fever?"

Raegan felt dizzy. She rested her head on his chest weakly.

This made the whole situation complicated.

Reagan was slow to catch that. When she finally realized that her body was too close to his, she put her hands against his chest and tried to pull back.

Before she could escape, Mitchel pulled her back and held her by the waist. With a cold face, he said in a low voice, "Where do you think you are going?"

The light flickered again. Out of the blue, Mitchel lifted her up.

He then headed for the elevator.

In a daze, Raegan asked softly, "What are you doing?"

"What does it look like I am doing?" Mitchel remarked. "Taking you to the hospital, of course."

"No way!" Raegan cried out in surprise and seemed to regain more strength.

Mitchel might find out about her condition if they went to the hospital.

Raegan struggled to get out of Mitchel's arms. However, his tight grip made her efforts fruitless.

"Don't be so stubborn. You are sick, so you must see the doctor," Mitchel said firmly.

He walked to the elevator with her in his arms. At this moment, Raegan's heart was thumping so hard that it could jump out of her chest. She flailed in protest.

"Put me down! I don't want to go to the hospital!"

&13& | LEARN_MORE | https://fbweb.moboreader.net/46526322-fb_contact-e | 105235075579900 | Funread | https://facebook.com/100083845110483 | 11,033 | 1 | 405,402,755,689,690 | 2024-04-28 02:00 | person_profile | eligible | 0 | 0 | NONE | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | Learn more | 0 | Funread | 120208089634230660 | fbweb.moboreader.net | NONE | video | https://fbweb.moboreader.net/46526322-fb_contact-enj57-1125-core1.html?adid={{ad.id}}&char=216543&accid=1910509592737470 | 2024-04-23 02:47 | https://scontent-hou1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/439447419_400933732755868_5866899095254933342_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_s60x60&_nc_cat=104&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=h0-rZvKjB9gQ7kNvgH0RlPR&_nc_ht=scontent-hou1-1.xx&oh=00_AfAHN1NC6m-TOOcbHN_GiLYgeKsFmxt2eJVb6zzN9S4orw&oe=6634647C | person_profile | 0 | moboreader | https://scontent-hou1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/439575663_983362703150299_3022809248055255155_n.jpg?_nc_cat=102&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=LTblHvWdwFcQ7kNvgG7YHpI&_nc_ht=scontent-hou1-1.xx&oh=00_AfCJq1VR5iK8F3vLoVcfEaRxTg3cJfbzImHJyAoIjTBltA&oe=66345CED | 0 | 3 | Funread | 0 | 0 | 2024-04-26 02:00 | View Edit Delete

A Sweet Romance RH Omegaverse | “Trust me when I tell you that no one wants to know the real me,” I argued with a scoff, running my hand through my tangled hair.

Oh God, I must look like a disaster after being out in the wind and rain then ending up here. I wonder if Clara might be able to scrounge up a brush or comb for me to use. Maybe even a toothbrush and toothpaste—I can only imagine how bad my breath is right now.

My train of thought came to a screeching halt as a hand cupped my chin and turned my face until I was again trapped in Eli’s gaze. “It is important to me for you to understand I’m not a man who speaks casually. Every word out of my mouth has been selected because of its truthfulness. I don’t waste time, money, or words, so when I use any of these things, people take me seriously.”

The Alpha was seeping out of him as he spoke, making my needy Omega butt want to roll over on her belly like a puppy begging for pets. Never had I been so turned on and, at the same time, ready to put my tail between my legs, ashamed that I would ever doubt his intentions.

“I’m sorry,” I blurted, needing to make up for my mistake.

Eli’s hand shifted from my jaw to cup my cheek, letting his thumb brush gently over my skin. “Forgive me, that was far more aggressive than I meant it to be. Hearing you speak that way about yourself and knowing you truly believe it struck a nerve with me. It’s not an excuse, just simply an explanation of my intense reaction. For too many years, I watched my sister struggle against the lies people told her about not being good enough because of her condition. Everyone, and I mean everyone, is worthy of love.”

—Knot Now Knot Ever (Sunshine & Rainbows Omegaverse) | LEARN_MORE | https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CSGDWT1G | 1843722162395050 | Elizabeth Knight Author | https://facebook.com/elizabethknightbooks | 1,054 | 1 | 1,461,856,937,776,757 | 2024-04-28 02:00 | person_profile | eligible | 0 | 0 | NONE | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | Learn more | 0 | Elizabeth Knight Author | 120208677113660100 | amazon.com | NONE | image | Knot Now Knot Ever (Sunshine & Rainbows Omegaverse) | https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CSGDWT1G | 2024-04-10 08:24 | https://scontent-ord5-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/435401160_830615845771471_8134689492575663699_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_s60x60&_nc_cat=101&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=t0_Fdrzoh04Q7kNvgEPPsPK&_nc_oc=AdiQk8-dIc6r3u9voB7xHh_k6y3DgGDdy832PnprrkF-5VwJm38bHa4AC6QsXr0DG9KIJWm7Ye5muNAX8uZLIGBl&_nc_ht=scontent-ord5-1.xx&oh=00_AfCqyqYHzgLd4XCFe-G04GLbfFzlWKOlkb3Lvt_Qm43YZw&oe=66346221 | person_profile | 0 | 0 | 3 | Elizabeth Knight Author | 0 | 0 | 2024-04-27 02:00 | View Edit Delete
