I'm your official legal guardian and you'll be living with me and my family until you graduate from Westbrook High this summer.”
I feel the sudden urge to puke.
“Run along and pack your things, Callie. You'll be attending your new school first thing tomorrow morning.”
Fresh out of options, I admit defeat and stand to do as she told me to.
And yet here I am, headed over to the fucking devil herself, allowing her to drag me off to my newest version of hell.
————————
Callie

He’s gone.
My mongrel father is dead.
Put a pellet in his own temple, it seems.
Just like that.
Quick and painless.
I bet he didn't even feel it.
I don’t want much in life, so long as I have a little cash and a place to lie my head at night, I'm good to go, but I wanted this, wished for it, even, so why am I so disappointed?
Dissatisfied might be the better word.
I've imagined his death more than a few times in my seventeen years on this planet, fantasized about it while getting my knucklehead handed to me on the regular - among other things - but none of those fantasies were as simple as a gunshot to the head.
He should have suffered.
Leaning back in his favorite brown leather armchair, I blow out a hit of my joint and stare at his now covered body on the other side of our dingy, two bedroom apartment in one of the dirtiest neighborhoods of Vegas, allowing my thoughts to wander for a moment.
Why is he on the couch?
Why didn't he end his miserable life in the place he slouched day and night, watching his old football tapes, drinking his cheap whiskey and smoking his dirty cigarettes?
Doesn't make a lick of sense to me.
Jason O'Conner wasn't a suicidal man.
I won't deny life kicked his sorry knucklehead in more ways than one. Despite his dead parents and his abusive upbringing in foster care, he wanted a good life for himself and he worked his knucklehead off to make it happen. In high school he was the prom king, the captain of the football team, an up and coming star on his way to the NFL, worshipped by most and envied by many. Then everything went to excrement when he knocked up the prom queen and injured his knee on the field the summer before college. His career crashed and burned, he was abandoned by his gold digging high school sweetheart and left with nothing but a broken heart, a broken dream and a newborn baby daughter to raise. He spent his days in this old chair, reliving his glory days on a constant loop and cursing the world for taking everything he ever wanted. But still, he was never suicidal.
Because he had me.
I was his vice, his punching bag, his source of enjoyment, his only purpose in life. I'm the person he blamed for everything he lost, and if he ever let me forget it.
“Miss O'Conner.”
I blink away the thought, sliding my eyes to the middle aged female cop who's currently half way through taking my statement.
“Is that a cannabis ciggy?” She fumes, tapping her pen on her little notebook.
“No.” I shrug, inhaling another hit. “It's a joint.”
“You do realize it's illegal for persons under the age of twenty one to smoke cannabis in this state?”
I pop my mouth open and feign shock. “You don't say.”
She glares at that, opening her mouth to say something else but snapping it shut when one of her colleagues walks over to us. The man gives me a look, you know, the sorry about your dead daddy but I'm a little confused as to why you're not sobbing like a grieving daughter should be look, then he turns to the woman and leans over to speak in her ear. She frowns, listening to whatever he has to say, so I move my eyes back to the dead body on the couch, still struggling to make sense of what happened here tonight. None of these idiots would tell me anything when I got back and walked in on this excrement show. Instead they sat me down and asked where I'd been and what I'd been doing for the last few hours. I lied, of course, told them I fell asleep at a friend’s house, because if they knew what I was really doing, I'd be in a lot of fuckin’ trouble right now.
“Callie!”
Speak of the devil..
I look to the front door and grin like an arsehole when my good friend Officer Anderson walks over to me. Short brown hair and eyes to match, packed with hard muscle and those bulgy veins guys get when they take too many steroids. He looks more like a male stripper slash gang leader than a cop, which isn't actually a far stretch from the truth.
“What are you doing?” He hisses, snatching the joint from my mouth. “You're sat in a room full of badges and a dead body for sakes. Have some respect.”
I raise a brow at that, reaching up to snatch my joint back. “Respect? Seriously?”
He sighs, dropping his knucklehead down on the coffee table to level with me. “Look, I feel for you, babe, I really do. I don't wanna see you in a group home any more than you do. But what's your plan here? Get yourself booked every night for the next three months until your eighteenth birthday rolls around?”
“Exactly.” I grin, appreciating the way his chest and arms look in that tight gray t-shirt he's wearing. “You think I could rent a drawer in your desk at the station? Just a small one for my thongs and a toothbrush, some deodorant, condoms, that kinda thing.”
He tries, I'll give him that, but he fails to hide the tiny little grin pulling at his lips. “You're a cocky little excrement, you know that?”
I smirk, running my nail over the police badge wrapped around his neck. The first time he said that to me was the day we met. He caught me and a few friends drinking in the park a couple years back, told us to pack it up and move on, so I told him show me what he was packing and maybe I'd consider doing as I was told.
He arrested me.
“You gonna cuff me again, Officer?”
“Not tonight, babe.” He mutters, glancing around the apartment, and it's only now I realize he seems on edge. “I got a feelin’ the silver bracelets are a helluva lot different where you're headed.”
I frown.
Dean Anderson is one of the dirtiest cops you'll find in Sin City. Mid twenties, built like a machine, won’t hesitate to slit your throat from ear to ear if you push him far enough. If he's nervous about whatever comes next, pretty sure I should be, too.
“Dean..” I drop the act, leaning my elbows on my knees. “What is going on?”
He sighs, sliding his eyes back to mine. “Look, I don't even understand it myself, so let's just see how this plays out, yeah?”
My jaw ticks because that makes no freaking sense to me, but I don't get a chance to think on his meaning before some blond haired, hazel eyed chick walks through the front door like she owns the place, eyes on me and headed this way with a clear purpose. I eye her when she stops in front of me, taking in her skin tight, knee length, very expensive looking cream dress, long blond hair curled into perfect beach waves and a face full of professional looking make up. She eyes me right back, and I don't miss the way her nose turns up a little when she takes in my black sweats, the too big hoodie draped aimlessly around my shoulders, the several piercings in my ears and the metal ring on the corner of my bottom lip.
She's better than me and she knows it.
“You must be Callie.” She tries a smile, fake as garbage.
“Lookin' a little overdressed for a social worker, aren't we?” I raise a brow, enjoying the way she falters a little. “Are those seriously Christian Louboutins on your feet?”
“You know your shoes.” She muses, nodding her approval while she gives me another once over. “I guess you really are my daughter.”
My joint hits the carpet.
What did she just say?
The silence that follows is deafening.
My ears ring, my vision blurs, and the useless organ in my chest starts pumping wildly, begging me to feel the emotions creeping up my throat and squeezing. I almost feel it, but then I remember who I am and what she is, so I do what I taught myself to do when I was thirteen years old. I release my death grip on the locket around my neck and force that excrement down.
“Callie, this is Katherine Kingston.” The officer beside her starts, clearing his throat when I slide my eyes to him. “Your father called her before he passed earlier tonight, confessed his plans to her and asked her to take care of y-”
I hear laughter - full blown, hysterical laughter - and it's only when all the heads in here turn my way that I realize it's coming from me, because this has to be a freaking joke. The woman who took off on the day I was born and never once bothered to show her face my entire life, the woman who chose herself and money over me is standing in my freaking living room of all places, honest to god planning on taking me home with her.
So, yeah, funny as excrement if you ask me.
“Callie..”
Ignoring Dean's nonsense warning tone, I pick up my joint, relight it, and look her dead in the eye, staring openly so she knows just what I think of her.
Nothing.
I won't deny there were nights I cried myself to sleep at night when I was a little girl, wanting nothing more than to be wrapped up in my mother's arms, wishing she'd come back and protect me from the monsters I knew were all too real, but that ship sailed a long freaking time ago. She's just as dead to me as the sick mongrel lying in a body bag across the room is now. Always has been, always will be.
"Get out."
She scowls, struggling to rein in her obvious temper. “Excuse me?”
“You heard me.” I tip my chin to dismiss her, taking a long hit. “Get out and back to wherever you came from. I'll take my chances in the system.”
“I'm afraid that's not an option. I'm your official legal guardian and you'll be living with me and my family until you graduate from Westbrook High this summer.”
I feel the sudden urge to puke.
Her family?
Westbrook High?
“We live in Westbrook, California.” She explains, checking her fancy diamond watch. “Run along and pack your things, Callie. I can't fly you home with me because you don't have a passport so I've arranged a car service for us. You can sleep on the way and you'll be attending your new school first thing tomorrow morning.”
I ignore all of that and slide my eyes to Dean, frowning. “Is this legit?”
He nods, looking a little confused because there's no way he doesn't see what I'm seeing.
And I thought my heart was dead.
I finish my joint and toss the roach in the ash tray, feigning boredom while I consider my options a moment.
There aren't many.
I could make a run for it right here and now, but I doubt I'd get far, and even if I did, where the netherworld can I go where she won't find me? The group homes, the cops, the school - they'll all hand me over to her the second I show my face, and it's not like I can live a good life as a runaway minor with no real job and no high school diploma. I could argue, plead with this woman to reconsider, but just looking at her tells me this isn't up for negotiation. Plus I won't give her the satisfaction of hearing me beg.
Fresh out of options, I admit defeat and stand to do as she told me to, not missing the sly grin pulling at her fake lips. I walk over to the hole in the wall I call a bedroom and toss all my clothes in a black suitcase, hiding my firearm, cash and weed in the inside zip pocket, then I pull my long, dark brown hair up into a messy knot and take a second to look at myself in the mirror, eyeing the engraving on the cheap, heart shaped silver locket around my neck.
My Angel.
And yet here I am, headed over to the freaking devil herself, allowing her to drag me off to my newest version of netherworld.
Oh, the irony.
“Callie.”
Half way to the front door, I lick my lips and turn to face Dean, bumping his raised fist.
He catches the look in my eyes and sighs, discreetly slipping me my cut from earlier tonight. “It's only five months, babe.”
“Three.” I argue, shoving the cash in my pocket. “And I better be seeing you a helluva lot sooner than that.”
He frowns, looking from me to Katherine and back again. “You still wanna work?”
“How else am I gonna buy excrement? Money doesn't grow on trees.”
He snorts at my stupid joke and shakes his head at me, lightly knocking my chin. “Be good, okay?”
“Aren't I always?” I grin, tossing a wave over my shoulder before following Katherine down to the black limo parked out front.
Be good, he says.
Right.
----------------------------
Callie

“Why you?”
Katherine lifts her eyes from her phone when I break the silence, raising a perfectly waxed brow. “Excuse me?”
I lick my lips and lean back on the leather bench seat opposite her, watching her closely like she holds all the answers to my unspoken questions. I shouldn't care, I don't really, what’s done is done, but I can't help but wonder..
“Why did he call you?”
She smirks at that, folding her arms over her chest. “Took you long enough. You haven't said a word to me all night.”
“I was sleeping.”
“You're a terrible liar.”
“And you're fuckin' arsehole.”
She sighs and cocks her head, eyeing me curiously. “You have my eyes.”
“Lucky me.”
“That's all, though.” She observes, moving her eyes over my face. “The rest of you is all him. Your dark hair, your golden tanned skin, your full lips, your petite frame and your natural curves most girls would kill for. You sure as netherworld didn't get those from me. Mine were bought and paid for.”
“By the same sorry son of a mongrel who gave you that ugly knucklehead rock on your finger?” I tip my chin, gesturing to the blinding princess cut diamond on her left hand.
“Your personality, though?” She ignores the cheap dig, raising a brow. “That's all me. Your attitude, your whit, your stubbornness, your fire..”
“Awful full of yourself, aren't you?”
“You're mistaking those for compliments, my dear.” She leans forward, patronizing as garbage. “We're not in Vegas anymore, Callie. In a city like Westbrook, your big mouth will only get you into more trouble than it's worth. I advise you keep your head down and your mouth shut if you want to survive here.”
I lick my lips, not missing the warning in her tone. But if she thinks I'm about to listen to a word of her advice, as she called it, she's dead wrong.
I don't bother telling her that, though.
She'll find out soon enough.
“Why did he call you?”
She leans back, considering her words carefully before she speaks. “Your father was a complicated man.”
I don't bother to hide my eye roll because yeah, no excrement.
“He was a good person once.” She goes on, sighing a little. “He was raised in a crappy place with terrible people, but he wanted to be better. He was better for a little while.. until he wasn't. But even after all the mistakes he made with you, he wanted to do right by you in the end, Callie.” She lies, looking me dead in the eye as she does it. “He didn't want you to end up getting lost and forgotten about in the system. He didn't want you to be alone. He called me because he wanted me to give you the chance you deserve to make something of yourself.. finish high school, get a decent college education and live a good life.” She pauses, glancing off and up at something through the tinted windows. “The life you should have had all along.”
I glare, following her line of sight, and screw me, my eyes bug out of my head before I can stop it.
The limo slows to a stop and I slide my eyes back to Katherine, watching her smirk like the evil little snake she is - pleased with herself and my reaction, no doubt.
“Home sweet home.” She grins, sliding over just as the driver opens the back door for her. “Come, Callie.”
Half stunned, half disgusted, I follow her out and look up, craning my neck to eye the huge sign on the twenty five story, five star hotel standing in front of me.
Kingston Palace.
Kingston abominable Palace.
As in Katherine Kingston..?
This is one of the most expensive hotel chains in the country, owned by one of the richest and most powerful men on the west coast. Eyeing the building, I notice it's all black glass and gold finishes - the same theme as the Kingston Palace back in Vegas - large floor to ceiling windows and a wide set of shiny black steps leading up to the entrance.
Just then, I look to the side when I spot some hot Hispanic guy wearing a black button down taking my case from the car and carrying it up the front steps.
“Hey, buzz cut.” I call, following after him to take it off his hands. “I can carry my own excrement. Go find someone else to wait on.”
“Buzz cut?” He raises a brow, eyeing me and my form. “Can't say I haven't been called worse.”
I frown at that, because it's way too early for my already spinning head to work through double negatives. “Wait, what?”
He laughs lightly, leaning in to take it back from me. “Listen, girl, I'm just doin' my job, alright? I promise it'll get there before you do.”
“Promises don't mean excrement unless you can back em' up, and I like to get there first.” I tease, shamelessly eyeing his hot body while I take it back again. “Multiple times if you can make it happen.”
He grins, eyeing Katherine when she glares at him from beside me.
“Back to work.” She snaps - literally snaps her fingers in his face, the nasty mongrel.
Good for him, though, he doesn't falter at her harsh tone. It's clear he doesn't fear or respect her - something that pleases me more than it should. Still grinning, he winks at me and turns around to go do as he’s told.
“Don't flirt with the staff, Callie.” She scolds me, gesturing for me to follow her. “It's tacky.”
“What's tacky is you snapping your fingers and throwing orders at the staff like you own the place.” I fire back, smirking when she glares.
We walk through the revolving doors and pass the front desk, a few curious sets of eyes on us as we do. She ignores them as if they don't exist and clicks her red bottoms across the marble floors, headed towards the elevators on the back wall. She goes straight for the middle one - the one with the big knucklehead K symbol embroidered on the doors - and slides a black and gold keycard into the little black box to open it. I remain silent as we ride up, so does she, but I can feel her eyes on me through the mirrored glass, casually checking me for my reaction because it doesn't take a genius to figure out what's happening here.
I give her nothing.
As predicted, the elevator stops at the penthouse and the doors slide open to reveal what I can only describe as money. The black and gold theme continues up here, black marble floors with gold flecks lightly dusted throughout. The huge open plan space is modern and immaculately clean, high ceilings with gold chandeliers and fancy knucklehead art hanging on the walls. There's a living room straight ahead filled with chunky leather furniture and a lit fireplace sitting in the middle of the space, a kitchen slash dining area to the left with a wide hallway that leads I don't know where, another hallway to the right and a staircase in the far corner, meaning there must be a whole other level up there.
“You can go ahead and grab a quick shower if you need.” Katherine tells me, dropping her designer purse on the kitchen island. “I'll order us some room service so you can get some food in you before school. Your bedroom's upstairs, last door on the right. You've got your own bathroom and everything you need should be up there already. If not, there's a phone on your nightstand you can use to call the girls downstairs and they'll bring you whatever.”
I shake my head at her nonchalance because I'm almost positive this woman is out of her terrible mind. Without a word, I head for the curved staircase and walk up, passing a set of wide double doors on my left and a few singles on my right before I find the one she called mine.
Well, screw me.
Forget the bedroom - it's all the same ridiculous, over the top excrement you'd expect in a place like this, but I won't deny the killer view through the floor to ceiling windows across the back wall is pretty fuckin' awesome. Stepping out onto the balcony through the sliding glass doors, a big knucklehead grin pulls at my lips when I lean over and look down at the lit up city of Westbrook below me.
I like heights - the danger, the adrenaline, the fear - it gets my blood pumping.
I roll myself a joint and drop my knucklehead down on the cushioned couch outside, folding my ankles on the glass coffee table and lifting my Beats over my head. Home by Machine Guy Kelly plays in my ears while I watch the sunrise and allow myself a moment to run through my life from start to finish, wondering how the netherworld I ended up here and what I did to deserve the terrible show that is my existence.
Poor little Callie O'Conner.
No one loves you and you're all alone.
Get a freaking grip.
I lock my jaw and push away the pathetic thoughts that have no business filling my head, then I force my knucklehead up and toss my roach in the dirt. Fifteen minutes later, I'm freshly showered, dressed in a pair of tight ripped jeans and an unzipped hoodie with my headphones sitting around my neck. I drag my feet downstairs to find a waiting Katherine sitting at the kitchen island with her phone pressed to her ear.
“Yes, fine, I have to go, I'll call you later.” She smiles at me, fake as excrement, then she hangs up on whoever she was talking to and tosses the phone in her bag. “I didn't know what you liked so I ordered a little of everything.” She tells me, gesturing for me to take the seat opposite hers.
I stay where I stand and she stares, waiting for me to say or do something, so I roll my eyes and grab the coffee pot on the side, pouring myself a to go cup. “I don't eat breakfast.”
“You should.” She argues, tossing a grape in her mouth. “It’s the important meal of the day. That’s the kinda thing mothers teach their daughters, right?”
I roll my eyes at her lame knucklehead attempt at a joke and swallow a much needed hit of caffeine, eyeing her a moment. “Your husband know I'm here?”
“He does.” She nods, licking her lips. “He's taken his sons downstairs for breakfast to break the news to them.”
My coffee stills half way to my mouth.
His sons?
“Three boys.” She explains, trying and failing to hide the snarl on her face. “Damon, Wren and Kai. They're all seniors at Westbrook High so I'm sure you'll see them around, but it's probably best you stay out of their way at school and at home if you want to survive here.”
There's that word again.
Survive.
Tension floods my veins at the clear warning in her tone but I don't let her see that. I remain mute, sipping my coffee and waiting for her to offer more about them, but she doesn't, so I sure as netherworld don't ask.
“Anyway..” She perks up again, sliding me a credit card and a car key across the counter. “These are for you. The limit on the card is fifty thousand dollars and there's a brand new Range Rover downstairs for you. Your stepfather-”
I stop her right there, laughing lightly. “My stepfather? You're joking, right?”
She glares and hits me with her snake eyes, opens her mouth to say something but quickly snaps it shut, deciding against it. “Elijah and I want you to feel comfortable here. This is your home now, but we will not have you embarrassing us or disrespecting our family name. The Kingston's are considered royalty in this city, that means you can pretty much do as you please, but you must be discreet about it. No partying in public, no compromising pictures and absolutely no talking to the press. Are we clear?”
“Crystal.” I lie, because she's out of her terrible mind if she thinks her family name or her reputation here means excrrement to me. “We done here?”
“You haven't eaten anything.”
“I'm not hungry.” I shrug, lifting my coffee over my shoulder. “Imma take this to go.”
“Sit down, Callie.” She snaps, and I freeze mid step at her tone, working my jaw because she really shouldn't push me. “I want to see you eat something before you leave.”
I lick my lips and turn back to face her, struggling to make sense of this entire screwed up situation that seems to be my new reality and not some twisted dream world caused by smoking too much of the green stuff.
I'm not sure why she cares if I eat or not considering I've only known this woman for a little under six hours. The obvious and only answer is she simply doesn't care, so why..?
Something's not right here.
My mind drifts back to what she said to me in the limo about Jason wanting to do the right thing by me after years of cruel torment, and I'm sorry, but I'm not freaking buying it.
“Why am I here, Katherine?”
She stands and steps closer, speaking through her teeth. “You're here because you're my daughter and I'm deciding to give you a better life, so I suggest you drop the bitchy little act and show me some terrible gratitude.”
I laugh lightly, lifting my chin to level with her due to the extra inches she has on me in those heels. “Let’s get one thing straight here.” I start, smirking when her eyes narrow further. “You might be my legal guardian because it's the law, but you are not my mother and I am not your daughter. I don't want your husband's money or his crappy car, I don't want your fake concern, and I sure as excrement won't be following anyone’s rules but my own. So I suggest you back the knucklehead outta my face or toss my knucklehead in the system. Your choice.”
She snarls for real now and I can tell she wants to slap me for that, but she won't, not if she knows what's good for her.
“Just take the car, Callie.”
“I told you I don’t wan’t it.”
“Fine.” She sighs heavily, ending our little stare off to go grab her phone. “If you insist on being difficult I’ll have one of our drivers give you a ride to school until you come to your senses. The principal’s expecting you for a meeting in her office this morning so you’ll need to go straight there. It's on the west side of the building. If you go through the main..”
I don't hear the rest of her sentence before the elevator doors slide closed behind me and she's out of earshot.
I'll find it myself. | LEARN_MORE | https://a.shepherdsapp.com/ad/U2hlcGhlcmQvMTgxNzM0 | 116650124794432 | Shep001 | https://facebook.com/100093441295894 | 68 | 1 | 750,665,740,556,386 | 2024-05-18 02:00 | person_profile | eligible | 0 | 0 | NONE | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | Learn more | 0 | Shep001 | 120211332988960514 | a.shepherdsapp.com | NONE | video | https://a.shepherdsapp.com/ad/U2hlcGhlcmQvMTgxNzM0LzIwMjQwNTE3MTQwMTU0L3BhZ2U=?adid={{ad.id}} | 2024-05-17 02:22 | https://scontent-iad3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/441951000_428182106629676_6135204036136091415_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_s60x60&_nc_cat=106&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=BHFGfVngR-8Q7kNvgFnyQzw&_nc_ht=scontent-iad3-2.xx&oh=00_AYBLHcOCaWnOHPlQ8IHiHBViT7t_1j9mVhJKbKInp_ftzg&oe=664F2241 | person_profile | 0 | Shep001 | https://scontent-iad3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/444214240_1661005357994015_7251576733975846592_n.jpg?_nc_cat=109&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=zEJxlxMKENgQ7kNvgHL5rMv&_nc_ht=scontent-iad3-2.xx&oh=00_AYCj9sr7LQOLUP5m9VJXttvu5EPSiaZOMPjJV2fzW0v5Bw&oe=664F2AB9 | 0 | 3 | Shep001 | 0 | 0 | 2024-05-18 02:00 | View Edit Delete | |||||||||||||||||||||

No | 2024-05-18 19:24 | active | 809 | 0 | 430542442913833 | 🔥🔥 Click to Read 👉🏻👉🏻 | I am the president of the Ranger MC. My name is Reaper. I am 23 years old. My VP is Spirit, and my enforcer is Ghost. Spirit and Ghost are mated and marked. They are the same age as I am. I had a mate once. When I was 15 years old, she died in a car wreck. That was five years ago. She cheated on me. Her name was Lisa. They both died in that wreck. I have not found my second chance mate and do not care if I do.

As we rode into the compound and parked our bikes one of the prospects walked over to me. "Reaper, you should know that a woman with three teen boys, a girl, and a baby bought the house across the street."

"Just what we need, a bunch of teenagers."

"Something else you should know. I was at Wal-Mart shopping, the girl walked past me and I could have sworn she was a she-wolf. She was covering her scent."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, I am sure."

"Was anyone else with her?"

"Yes, two of her brothers. They all were trying to cover their scent."

"That at least makes me feel better. They are not human."

"So have they talked to any of you, while we were gone?"

"No."

"There she is, walking to the garage."

I turned and looked at the girl. "She must be 16 years of age, I told him."

"She does look pretty young."

I couldn't take my eyes off her. My wolf stirred in the back of my mind.

"Mate, she is our mate. We need to mark her."

"Human, she is beautiful."

"Wolf, she is too young for us."

"No, she is not too young. We need her, we want her."

"I said, no."

"You are going to deny us our mate? What is wrong with you?"

"I can smell her from here."

I lifted my head and sniffed the air. I slowly turned and looked across the street. I looked into the man's eyes. I slowly backed away, turned, and ran into the house.

"Human, why did our mate run from us?"

"I don't know, Wolf."

"Stop running from our mate, human. He is made for us."

"Silver, We can't. We don't know if he is like that man that took us a year ago."

"Our mate would never hurt us."

"Really, and just how would you know that?"

"Reaper, I yelled your name three times. She is your mate isn't she?"

"Ghost, she is my mate but I can't have a teenager for my mate."

"Reaper, you know that looks can be deceiving."

"Doesn't matter, I have no intentions of getting to know her."

I heard Spirit and Ghost gasp. "You can't be serious, Ripper."

"Dead, serious."

I turned and walked into the club. I walked over to the table and sat down. I opened the drink that had been placed in front of me. I leaned my head back leaning it against the walk and closed my eyes.

All I could think about was my second chance mate. In the back of my head, I felt Wolf move around. Then I heard what he said.

"You will not reject our mate, you will not hurt her, or make her feel bad."

"Shut up, Wolf. We don't even know her. We have not talked to her. She ran from us."

"Wolf, it is for the best. We are too old for her."

"Human, you are wrong. She is not a teenager. She is a full-grown woman."

As I ran into the house I looked at my brothers and mom. "What is wrong with you, Julie?"

"You look like you have seen a ghost." My brother, Stanley said.

"I just saw my mate."

"What, did you just say, Julie?"

"I just saw my mate. He is the president of that club across the street."

We started laughing. You have to be kidding us.

"The president of that club, is your mate?"

"Would I lie about that, William?"

"No, she wouldn't like something like that."

"Bobbie, I can't have a mate like him. He looked at me as if he hated me."

"He is just like a bad guy, the wolf that kidnapped me last year."

"He hated me too. I don't know why, but he did."

I looked at my mom.

"Silver, what is it?"

"My mate, he says that his human thinks you are too young for him."

"Wolf says that he is going to stay away from us. That he is not ready for a second chance mate."

"Mom, I need to run, I need to think."

"Be careful, Julie. We have not checked the woods out yet."

I walked out the back door and toward the woods. I didn't see my mate leaning against a tree, watching me. I got to the woods and turned into my wolf. I let Silver take over and she ran and ran. not stopping until she grew tired.

"Human, I know you can hear me."

"I can feel our mate close by. His wolf wants us, but his human is scared."

"No, Silver. I saw the look on his face. He hates us. He doesn't want us and our mate knows it as well."

"His wolf is lying to you if he says his human wants us."

"Ask him yourself. Go on. Talk to him."

"Wolf, is it true what my human is saying?"

"Yes, Silver. It is true. He doesn't want your human."

"I am sorry."

"Don't be sorry. I am sorry he doesn't want us."

"After all, my human knows he hates here. Just like the wolf that took her one year ago."

"The one that did those horrible things to her. The one who has left fear in her, then made her angry, and wanting revenge."

"Wolf, it is best that you and your human stay away from us. Especially since he doesn't want a second chance mate."

I stood up from the ground and ran back to the house. I blocked Wolf from trying to talk to us. I will stay away from our mate.
---------------
Spirit’s POV
I am named Spirit, I am Reaper's VP. I am also his biological brother. I know what he is thinking. I know he is going to make the biggest mistake of his life. I looked down at my woman and sighed.

"Spirit, what’s wrong? And do not tell me nothing."

"Since you all came back from the run, I have seen a change in Reaper."

"The girl across the street. She is Reaper's second chance mate. He told Ghost and me that he can't have a teenage girl as his mate. He is going to ignore her."

"Sara, he will hurt her. I have a bad feeling that Reaper will live to regret it. That he is making a big mistake."

"Won't he go and introduce himself to her mother?"

"No, he thought they were human. But, one of the prospects said he smelled her at Walmart when he was there. He stated that she was trying to cover her scent."

"Why would she do that?"

"I don't know, but she must have a reason."

"Let's go outside and sit on the porch. Maybe they will be outside."

We looked across the street and soon saw three boys carrying a box out from the garage and started sitting up in a swimming pool. It must have been 22 feet round, and five-foot deep. Soon one of them put a water hose in the pool.

We watched as a woman with long red hair walked out the door carrying a little boy. She walked over to where a girl sat and she sat in a chair next to her. I watched as the little boy reached out to the girl.

"Spirit, you don't thank that she is the mother of that baby do you?"

"No, I think he is her little brother."

We continued to watch them and heard the older woman say something. One of the boys made a phone call on his cell. About 40 minutes later we saw the pizza and pop being delivered. They all sat on the front porch and ate.

We looked over as Shotgun drove into the compound. He got off his bike and walked onto the porch and sat down in one of the chairs. I watched him as he looked over at the house.

"I think I am in love." He said.

"I always had a thing for redheads."

"So, has Reaper gone over and introduced himself yet?"

"No, and he doesn't plan to," Sara told him.

I looked over at her in shock. "What do you mean, he doesn't plan to?"

"Just what I said. He wants nothing to do with him. Especially with his mate."

"Please tell me the redhead is not his mate."

"Nope, the blonde."

I looked at her in shock. "The blonde is Reapers, mate, and he doesn't want her?"

"That's about right."

"Why not?"

"He thinks she is too young for him."

I started laughing. I fell out of my seat laughing.

"I think that is funny. He is lying, isn't he?"

"Nope, he doesn't want her."

"But, he won't get a third mate. Is he crazy?"

"Look, Shotgun. I don't understand it myself. I just know he is making a big mistake. He will lose her."

"Are you all talking about me?" Reaper asked, walking onto the porch.

"Just then he grabbed a girl and kis sed her."

I stood up and looked at Reaper.

"Reaper, what are you doing?"

"I am kis sing a girl who’s not my mate."

"I can see that. I never thought my own nephew would hurt his mate on purpose. At least not until now."

"I am going home. I won't sit and watch you be a bad guy."

I walked off the porch to my bike. I glared at Reaper before driving out of his compound. I watched as one of her brothers lifted her in his arms and carried her into the house. I shoved the girl away.

"Get away from me."

"But, you kis sed me."

"I kis sed you to hurt my mate. Now leave."

Reaper did not see Ghost and Kelly standing behind him.

"Why, why would you hurt your mate on purpose, Reaper." Asked, Kelly.

"Because she is too young for me, and I don't want her."

"Sara let's go introduce ourselves," Kelly said.

We watched as the girls walked off the porch and crossed the street. We walked up onto the porch and talked to the red head.

"Hello, my name is Kelly, I am the mate of the enforcer, my name is Sara, I am the mate of the VP."

"Pleased to meet you. My name is Peggy. My daughter just went in, her name Julie, she is 20 years old, and walking out the door is my son, William, he is 22, This is my son, Stanley, he is 21, and that is Bobbie. He is 23."

"And this little man here is Johnny, he is one year old."

"Have a seat. Would you like something to drink?"

"No, thank you, we are fine."

"We sat and talked to Peggy for about one hour."

"With our wolf hearing, we could hear Julie crying."

"We should go now. Sara said."

"Come for coffee any time. I always have a pot on."

"Thank you, we would like that."

We watched as Kelly, and Sara walked across the street to their club.
As we walked back onto the porch we looked at the guys.

"Well, how old is she, and what is her name?"

" Her name is Julie and she is 20 years old."

"So, she is not a teenager." Said, Spirit.

"That's right, she is a grow-up."

Soon, we heard a door slam across the street. We watched as Julie walked to the garage. Soon we heard a bike start and ride out onto the road. Ghost whistled.

"Reaper is going to be so jealous. His unwanted mate owns the very bike he wants."

Later that night we watched as Reaper dragged a girl down the hallway to her room. We all knew what was about to happen. And then we started to hear the screams from across the street. Outside several members looked across the street and they knew. They knew the girl was Reaper's mate.

"How long is he going to be with that girl?” one member growled.

"I don't know but I wish to God he would stop."

"He is killing his mate, and he doesn't care," another member said.

"I can't stand her screams anymore,'' three other members said, walking to their bikes.

We all followed them and left the compound. Across the street, Peggy and her brothers were trying to help Julie work through the pain.

"We are going to go over there and rip him off the girl he is with, if this continues." Her brothers told their mom.

Finally around 3 in the morning it stopped. "Mom, we should all get some sleep now," Stanley told her. Mom looked up at us.

"Look at her stomach, look at her thighs. The bruises are bad, boys."

"Mom, I will never do this to my mate. I will never hurt my mate."

"Boys, I am sure you will do the right thing, now go to bed."

We will look in on her after we wake up. And we will talk in the morning. Several hours later I slowly opened my eyes. I hurt so bad. How could my mate do this to me? How could he cause me such pain, knowing what it would do to me?

I slowly climbed out of bed and walked to my bathroom. As I showered the tears fell. Dear Moon Goddesses, how could my mate do this to me? He is made for me, but he doesn't want me. I can't deal with this every day and night.

Please forgive me for what I am about to do. I need to have Aunt Shawn use her magic to block our mate bond. I can't take this pain. I can't take that he hates me and doesn't want me. I finished my shower, dried, and dressed.

I slowly walked down the stairs and walked into the kitchen. We looked up as Julie made her way over to the table and slowly sat down. Mom put a plate of eggs, bacon, fried potatoes, toast, and coffee in front of her.

"Mom, guys don't hate me for what I am about to ask for."

"Mom, call Aunt Shawn and ask her to come and block the mate bond."

"I can't take this pain, not again."

I looked at all of them. "You all know it is going to happen again, tonight."

"We know," Mom said. "We do not blame you. We understand."

After eating I slowly stood up and walked outside to sit on the front porch. "William, take a cup of coffee and a blanket to your sister."

The members working across the street heard the door shut across the street. They watched as the girl slowly walked over to the chair and slowly sat down. Then they looked over at Reaper, glaring at him.

"Kelly, look at her. She is in so much pain." Said Sara.

"I can't believe that Reaper would do that to his mate."

"I turned and looked at my mate. She is so pale, and you could see she was in pain."

"Human, you did that to our mate. I hate you right now. Silver hates me just as much as she does you."

Two hours later I looked up from the bike I was working on. I saw the hate my brother had in his eyes.

"Go ahead, call me bad guy for hurting my mate."

"Oh, you are that. But, you are about to lose your second chance mate. That means you will never get another mate, never have a pup of your own."

"What are you talking about?"

"It looks like they have company over there. The witch, Shawn. She just carried a suitcase into the house."

"I bet she plans on blocking the mate bond. And once it is blocked long enough, she won't feel it anymore. You can date as many girls as you want. She won't feel a thing." Ghost told him.

"You are lying, Ghost."

"Go look if you don't believe me. They are all sitting on the front porch. You not only lost your first mate, the cheating girl, but you are about to lose your second chance mate, the only one that would have given you a pup."

"Listen to me Alpha Reaper. I am glad mother and father are not alive to see this one."

I walked out of the garage and looked over toward my mate's house. I did not want to believe it but, the witch was indeed sitting on the porch talking to them. I didn't want it to come to this. I wanted her to get older. Not lose my mate.

"Human. What did you think our mate would do after you had fun with that girl all night, causing our mate to scream until you stopped and went back to our room?"

"Most of the members left the club last night. They couldn't stand hearing Luna's screams.
