The Alpha's Beloved Luna | Chapter 1
âIâm so sorry,â Fay mumbled. âI was just acting on instincts⊠I didnât know you were behind me.â
Fay was minding her own business by the bonfire when she sensed trouble. Two rocks flew in her direction. She dodged the first one but the second one hit her glass.
The crimson liquid in her glass spilled all over Vanessaâs crisp white dress, effectively ruining it.
Vanessa and her groupies burst out laughing.
âWhat instincts?â Vanessa mocked. âYou donât even have a wolf!â
Fay knew they were trying to rile her up, but their words really hit home. She was constantly reminded of the fact that she was a wolfless werewolf.
âYouâre the only one our age who still doesnât have a wolf,â Riley, one of Vanessaâs groupies, said out as she pushed Fey back.
Fayâs chin quivered as she tried to hold back her tears.
âItâs a curse!â someone called out from the crowd.
âYeah! Thatâs what you get for killing your own mother!â Vanessa said, backing up the crowd. âCursed by Moon Goddess!â
âYou should listen to her. She knows what sheâs talking about,â Luke, Vanessaâs brother, the heir of the Bloodclaw Pack, said as he stepped forward. âThe largest pack in the world doesnât need its reputation tainted by a wolfless wolf.â
âIt was an accident,â Fay whispered, but her voice was barely audible.
No one stepped forward to defend her, because none of them cared.
The only people who cared, her parents, were nowhere to be found. They were pulled away from their discussion earlier, and she hadnât seen them since.
"You should be punished," Luke snapped. "Disrespecting my sister like that."
Fay clenched her fists as she bit back a cutting retort.
âYeah, thatâs what I thought,â Vanessa said smugly. âYou wouldnât stand up for yourself if you could.â
âIf you still donât have your wolf when you turn eighteen, you should be banished from the pack,â Luke continued, earning a bout of cheers from the onlookers. âIâll force you to turn rogue.â
âNo one will accept a wolfless werewolf into their pack,â Vanessa scoffed.
Fay remained silent. She had always been their punching bag for as long as she could remember. The best way to deal with them was to stay silent. They would get bored eventually.
âIâm sure your parents will be happy to get rid of you,â Luke said, crossing his arms. âYouâre such a disappointment to them.â
As Vanessa stalked up to her, she instinctively took a couple of steps back. Fay hadnât realized just how close she actually was to the fire until she felt the heat behind her.
She bit her cheek, wishing she had her wolf.
Vanessa used all her strength to push Fay back, causing her to stumble. Fayâs arms flailed as she tried to keep her balance, but the heat behind her intensified and she knew she was about to fall into the flames.
Fay closed her eyes as she braced for impact, but a strong arm wrapped around her waist. She looked up to see that her father, Finch, had saved her a second before she could get burned.
âWhat makes you think Iâm disappointed in my daughter?â Finch asked through gritted teeth, making it clear that heâd heard everything.
âBeing the daughter of the Alpha doesnât mean you have the right to push pack members over petty squabbles,â Finch said as he turned his attention to Vanessa. âYouâre just another spoiled brat who has no respect for members of your own pack!â
Finch was livid. He knew they would be punished for this, but he didn't seem to care.
When Fay looked past her fatherâs broad frame, she saw Vanessa whimpering as tears streamed down her fair cheeks.
âItâs all her fault!â Vanessa said, glaring at Finch. âIf she was normal, none of this wouldâve happened!â
Fay couldnât believe that Vanessa was trying to play the victim in this. Everyone saw what happened, but like always, none of them would go against her.
âDo you think pushing someone into a fire is a game?â Finch reprimanded.
Vanessa opened her mouth to speak, but Luke placed a firm hand on her shoulder. Being the over protective big brother, he stepped in between the two of them.
âBack off, Walker! This isnât your fight,â Luke said in an attempt to assert his dominance over Finch.
âNo,â Finch sneered, âIâve watched you ridicule my daughter for far too long. That ends now.â
Lukeâs lips curled into a cruel smile, and he leaped forward in attack. Fay let out a strangled cry as she reached for her father, but it was too late. As Luke got close, Finch threw out his arms and pushed the future Alpha back.
The force sent Luke plummeting to the ground. A wave of shocked gasps echoed through the crowd of onlookers, and Fay knew that her father had just sealed his own fate.
âHe attacked the Alphaâs son!â one of the onlookers shouted as he pointed a finger at Finch.
Fay gasped at the accusation. âNo, thatâs not what happened!â she protested, but no one paid any attention to her.
âTake him to the Alpha! He deserves to be punished for his actions!â another onlooker called out.
From her position, Fay could see her fatherâs body tensing up. His fists clenched and released in a blatant display of his anger, which could only mean one thing. Her father was preparing to strike.
âFinch!â Melanie, Fayâs mother, reprimanded as she threw a bucket of iced water at him.
With the shock he received from the cold water, Finchâs wolf was subdued. When he looked over at his daughter, Fay could see the realization in his eyes. He knew heâd pushed things too far.
âIâm so sorry, Luke,â Melanie said, offering the boy a sincere smile. âIâll bring them to Alpha Jared for punishment.â
Once Luke nodded, Melanie grabbed them by their wrists and pulled them away from the bonfire. As they disappeared from sight, she released her grip. The party picked up their pace, heading toward the border.
The family reached the treeline and slipped into the forest unnoticed.
âWhatâs happening?â Fay asked, still in a state of confusion.
âWeâre leaving this horrid pack so we can start a new life somewhere else.â Melanie said as she glanced at Fay.
âWhy?â Fay asked as a frown etched into her forehead.
âItâs not safe for you to stay with the pack anymore,â Finch said, giving Fay a warm smile. âWhen I got pulled away from our conversation earlier, it had something to do with your security in Bloodclaw territory.â
Before Fay could question her fatherâs words, both her parents took their wolf forms. Finch stepped up to his daughter and motioned for her to get on his back.
With one final look at the place that Fay knew as home, she slipped onto her fatherâs back. She knew they were doing this to mask their scents, which could only mean that they would never be coming back.
Her parents sprinted to the border, and they only stopped when Bloodclaw was nothing more than a distant memory. When they shifted back to their human forms, they wrapped their arms around their daughter.
âI know itâs sad to leave the only place youâve ever known,â Melanie said as she tightened her grip. âBut this is a new beginning, and Iâm sure it will be much better than our past.â
Finch let out a heavy sigh. As they turned away from the border, he led his daughter to what would become their new home.
âWhere are we going to live now?â Fay asked, somewhat scared of what the future had in store for them.
âWe contacted the Moonfang Pack a couple of days ago. Theyâll take us in,â Melanie said as she playfully bumped into Fay. âRumor has it that they have the scariest Alphas in the world.â
Fay hoped she was joking about that, but she wouldnât object either way. They didnât have any other options, and Fay was just happy that they had some place to call home. If the Alpha was scary, she would just avoid him.
As a family, they stepped out of neutral territory and into the land of the Moonfang Pack.
A few minutes into their walk, Fay picked up on something. A sudden sense of unease surrounded her, letting her know that something wasnât right.
Something caught Fay's eye. A magnificent black wolf whose shiny coat matched the darkness of the night sky. Fay had never seen a black wolf before, but she had heard stories of them.
He was much larger than the rest of the wolves, which could only mean that he was the Alpha.
His piercing eyes were locked on her, their molten depths drawing her in. She unknowingly took a step forward but was stopped in her tracks when the wolf huffed.
The Alpha wolf and the others led Fay and her family to the Pack house. Once there, the black wolf took his human form.
The man, who was just as magnificent as his wolf, held a hand out toward her. Fayâs arm lifted, seemingly on its own, allowing her hand to slip into his.
The Alpha gave her a dazzling smile before gently kissing her knuckles. âMy name is Elias Spell. Iâm the Alpha of the Moonfang Pack.â
~
Chapter 2
Fay tried her best not to look at the Alpha, but she could sense that his gaze was still on her. To distract herself, she turned her attention to the newcomer.
âIâm Tybalt, Beta of Moonfang,â he said, eyeing her curiously as he shook her hand. âIf you need anything, just come to me.â
A low growl thrummed in Eliasâ chest as he gripped onto his Betaâs shoulder, and Tybalt instantly let her go. Fay found the interaction rather strange but paid it no mind.
Her parents didnât seem to see things the same way, though. They shared a look before Melanie stepped forward as Finch moved closer to Fay.
âWe are sorry about burdening you with our problems,â Melanie said, offering the Alpha a sincere smile. âBut we had no other choice.â
âLuke, Alpha Jaredâs son, was hurting my daughter, and I had to step in,â Finch said, shaking his head. âThings went too far⊠I laid my hands on the kid⊠I didnât mean to, but my wolf had already taken over at that point.â
âThat boy never knew what was good for him,â Elias agreed. âBut none of that matters to us. Weâre just happy you decided to move your family here.â
Once again, the Alphaâs full attention was on Fay. The primal look in his eyes sent a chill down her spine. She didnât know if it was because of fear or the weird connection she felt toward him.
âIâve set you up in a house thatâs deeper into the woods on the north,â Elias said with a wolfish grin before turning his attention back to her parents. âItâs farther away from the other pack homes, just like you asked. So you shouldnât have any problems there.â
âThank you very much, Alpha Spell. We appreciate your kindness,â Melanie said.
âPlease call me Elias,â he said with a slight nod. âOne of my pack members will come by shortly to show you to your new home.â
Even though Finch was trying his best to hide it, Fay picked up on his subtle sigh of relief. They were finally safe, at least for now.
She cast a quick glance at Elias, who was leaning against his desk with his arms folded over his chest as he watched her intently.
âI came as soon as I could,â a girl, about Fayâs age, said as she ran through the door, drawing Fay out of her thoughts. âWhat can I do for you?â
âSabel, these are the Walkers,â Elias said, not paying much attention to the girl. âI need you to show them to the cottage.â
âWonderful!â Sabel said, clasping her hands together.
Fay watched the girl in astonishment. Her strawberry curls bounced along with her body, and her green eyes shone with her excitement.
Sabel led the family along the rows of pack homes and into the forest in the northern part of the territory. It only took them a few minutes to reach a clearing that housed a stunning little cottage. It had three bedrooms and was fully equipped with everything they needed.
âElias wanted to make sure you were well taken care of,â Sabel said as she swayed from side to side. âI hope I got it right⊠If you need anything else, please let me know.â
âThis is perfect, thank you, sweetheart,â Melanie said as she pushed a strand of her long blonde hair behind her ear.
A proud smile spread over Sabelâs cheeks. âCan I hang out with Fay for a while?â
The family shared a look. Fay prayed her parents would see her reluctance. They knew she never had any friends so it was obvious that she found this a little awkward.
âOf course you can,â Melanie said with a wide smile. âShe just loves meeting new people.â
Though she was afraid at first, Sabel's infectious behavior soon put Fay in a good mood too. She felt relaxed and happy to have someone of her age to talk to.
âDid you have a good trip?â Sabel asked, looking as joyful as ever.
âYeah, it wasnât too bad?â Fay said, unsure of how the conversation was supposed to go.
She didnât want to chase Sabel away by being awkward or unapproachable.
âIâd be lying if I said Iâm not super excited right now! My mind is whirling with the encounter you shared with Elias earlier,â Sabel said, intriguing Fay.
âWhat encounter?â Fay asked, feigning innocence.
Sabel giggled as she sank back on the couch.
âCome on, I saw the way you were looking at him,â Sabel said, fanning a hand in front of her face. âThere is some serious chemistry between you two. Thatâs something even you canât deny.â
Fayâs fair cheeks flushed a bright red with her embarrassment, and she averted her gaze. She didnât know her gawking was that obvious. But those words had her wondering what Elias would make of her behavior.
âIt wasnât like that,â Fay mumbled as she fiddled with her shirt. âHeâs justâŠâ
âSo handsome you couldnât resist?â Sabel teased. âI have to warn you that youâre not the only one who feels that way.â
âWho are we talking about?â Fay asked, trying to sound calm.
Sable moved closer, seemingly fascinated by Fayâs response. âHer name is Cassidy. Sheâs one of the pack members who has a huge crush on Elias. She'll do anything to get him back.â
âWhat do you mean by getting him back?â Fay asked as she clenched her jaw.
âThe two of them used to date not so long ago,â Sabel said, eyeing Fay cautiously.
~
The moment Fay and her family walked out of the room, Elias felt an emptiness creeping into his soul.
His mind was shrouded in disbelief, his thoughts were racing at a thousand miles per hour.
He sank down on the couch, rubbing his chest in delight. His lips curled into a proud smile.
âWhatâs with the look?â Tybalt asked as he took a seat next to Elias.
âItâs herâŠâ Elias mused. âFay Walker is my fated mate.â
âHow do you know?â Tybalt asked eagerly.
âI sensed it the moment I saw her crossing into our territory.â Elias threw his head back and laughed.
Tybalt leaned forward, a look of utter confusion etched into his face. Elias knew that look all too well. It usually came when Tybalt had more questions than he could ask.
âSpill it,â Elias ordered.
âWhy didnât you say anything about it?â Tybalt asked.
âBecause it seems like she didnât sense the bond and I donât want to rush this,â Elias said, furrowing his brows.
He didnât understand why she didnât sense it. Was it because of her age? Or was there more to it?
Elias knew she was young, probably around seventeen. That would explain her reaction, since the bonding usually only happens after the age of eighteen.
âIt looked like she felt something, though. I mean, she could hardly keep her eyes off you,â Tybalt offered.
âYeah, but that doesnât change anything⊠She shouldnât be forced into this.â Elias sighed as he rested his feet on the table. âI want her to find out about it in her own time.â
~
Chapter 3
A few days later
Fay was making breakfast for the family but her mind was on Sabel and how close they had gotten since she arrived at Moonfang. She not only made a friend, she made a best friend, and Fay loved it.
âWho put you in such a fabulous mood?â Finch asked as he took a seat at the dining room table. âI hope it isnât a boy.â
Fay giggled at the thought. âItâs Sabel. She said sheâd take me shopping today.â
âItâs nice to see you having fun with people your own age,â he said, sipping on the coffee that Fay made for him. âAs long as you stay away from the Alpha, Iâm happy.â
âWhy should I stay away from Elias?â Fay asked, bewildered by the statement.
âWe didnât tell him that you donât have your wolf yet.â Finch said honestly.
âWhy would you lie about that?â Fay asked in a panicked tone.
âBecause we were afraid he wouldnât allow you into the pack if he knew,â Melanie answered as she walked in. âYou saw how you were judged at Bloodclaw. We donât want that to happen again.â
Fay was completely taken aback by their confession.
âI know youâre doing this to protect me, but we canât just lie to an Alpha,â Fay said anxiously. âWe could be thrown out of the pack⊠If Elias is in a good mood.â
âAnd if he isn't, things can be a lot worse,â her father said as he took her hands in his. âBut we donât care about any of that, darling. All we care about is you.â
âI promise Iâll avoid him at all cost,â she mumbled as pushed her food around on her plate.
They had finally settled into their new home, and even though Fay felt guilty about lying, she knew it was for the greater good. At the end of the day, her familyâs safety was what mattered most so she would do whatever it took to protect them.
Fay was busy washing the dishes when someone knocked on the door. She looked down at her watch, thinking she mightâve lost track of time, but Sabel wasnât supposed to arrive for another hour.
âHi, Bestie!â Sabel chimed as she threw her arms around Fay when she opened the door. âI know Iâm early, but you guys have been summoned by Elias.â
âSummoned?â Fay asked in shock.
âYes, he wants to see all three of you,â Sabel said with a nod. âNow.â
Fayâs heart pounded in her chest.
What did he want with them? Did he figure out that she had no wolf?
A searing pain ripped through her head, nearly bringing her to her knees, and suddenly she felt a reassuring hand roaming over her back.
âItâs okay,â Melanieâs voice echoed in her mind. âEverything is fine. Just calm down.â
The mind link she shared with her parents mustâve alerted them of her dismay, which she was grateful for. Melanieâs soft voice always had such a soothing effect on Fay, and she really needed it at that moment.
âWhatâs wrong?â Sabel asked, her concern evident.
âIâve just been having some headaches lately. Nothing serious,â Fay lied.
As they arrived at the Pack House a great sense of unease overwhelmed Fay. She didnât know what it was until they bumped into Tybalt, who was blocking the way.
âElias wants to see each of you individually,â Tybalt said, raising Fayâs concern even more. âMrs. Walker, please go through to the office.â
Tybalt waved Melanie in while Fay shared a look with her father. This was an investigation, there was no doubt about it.
âPromise me you wonât reveal your secret about being wolfless,â Finch said through the mind link. âIt doesnât matter what happens, you have to keep this secret.â
âMr. Walker, you can wait in the room around the corner,â Tybalt said, motioning to the corner he meant.
âPromise me, Fay!â Finch said. His panic could be felt through the link.
âI promise,â Fay whispered as she watched her father walk away.
Fay just stood in the doorway, frozen in fear and feeling extremely uncomfortable. She had no idea what to expect. But the more she thought about it, the more dreadful the situation seemed.
They had never been questioned like this before, not even by Jared, and theyâd never been separated.
âWhy donât you take a seat?â Tybalt asked, drawing her from her thoughts.
He gave her a sweet smile as he gestured to the couch in the corner. Knowing that she didnât have much of a choice and that theyâd probably be waiting for a while, she sat down.
âAre you guys enjoying yourselves here?â Tybalt asked as he joined her.
Fay nodded and looked down at her entangled fingers. She suspected that her fatherâs words counted for the Beta as well. And since Fay didnât want to cause unnecessary trouble, she decided it would be best to just keep quiet.
âAre you afraid of us?â Tybalt questioned, catching Fay completely off guard.
Her eyes widened at the sudden realization that she might be putting her family in danger, or making them look suspicious with her silence. At that exact moment, Melanie walked out of the Alphaâs office, looking less afraid than she did when she went in.
Fay relaxed a little, as she watched her father being called into the room next.
âI guess anyone would be afraid under these circumstances,â Fay mumbled as she fiddled with the hem of her dress. "We have nothing to hide and yet we're being interrogated. Can you really blame us?"
Tybalt barked out a laugh as he leaned back. âThis isnât an interrogation. Itâs Eliasâ way of welcoming you to our pack.â
âSo⊠he wonât hurt us?â Fay asked. For the first time since they arrived, she looked at the Beta.
âOf course not!â he said incredulously. âWhat makes you think he would?â
Fay felt her nervousness dissipating the more time she spent with Tybalt. The Beta had a way of making her feel comfortable, just as she was with her parents.
âWeâve heard rumors,â she said, leaning back as well. âSome say heâs the most feared Alpha in the world.â
âI guess that would be true in some cases,â Tybalt said, moving closer to her. âElias can be very authoritative, but heâs also loyal, especially when it comes to the people he loves.â
âDoes that mean he found his mate?â The question slipped out before Fay could stop it.
âIf he did, the whole world would know about it.â Tybalt chuckled as he winked at her. âElias might look strict, but thatâs only because he has an image to uphold. But heâs just like the rest of us, searching for the person who can make us whole again.â
Fay could see a great fondness in Tybaltâs eyes when he spoke about Elias. They must have known each other for a long time.
Through their chat, she also realized that the way Tybalt described and spoke of Elias didnât match any of the stories sheâd heard. He didnât seem like the monster those tales painted. He seemed like the complete opposite.
Even her own experiences with him proved that. From what sheâd gathered, she could tell that Elias was tough but that didnât make him a devil or some kind of demon.
It just showed that he was a good, respectable Alpha.
âWhat about Cassidy? I heard she has a⊠crush on him,â Fay said cautiously.
âIf that isnât a perfect example of how quickly rumors spread around here,â Tybalt laughed. âCassidy doesnât stand a chance! Especially not now when his eyes are set on someone else.â
"He does?" she asked with excitement.
But as quickly as the spark appeared in her heart, it disappeared. She was reminded of what her father had asked of her. Perhaps it was best to stay away from the Alpha after all, pretend like he did not exist.
âDo you have any other questions?â Tybalt asked, seemingly intrigued by her reaction.
Fay pointed at Eliasâ office. âWhat will happen in there?â
âNothing too serious.â He gave her a charming smile. âHeâll ask you some questions to find out if youâre a danger to the pack and youâll be free to leave.â
âIâm a little nervous,â Fay admitted.
âI could come with you if that would help,â Tybalt offered, as he placed a reassuring hand on her knee.
Fay was about to accept when the office door opened. When her father stepped out he still looked as skeptical as he did when he went in, which frightened her. It was clear that Finch didnât share the same experience as Melanie, and Fay couldnât help but wonder what she would face.
Elias stepped into the hallway. The sight of him was enough to make Fayâs heart stop beating. He made the last term clear before handing her the contract.
"I think I need to add one... that you can't force me to sleep with you." She lowered her head, blushing, like a frightened rabbit. She didn't notice his lips curved into a light smile after her words.
It was a flash marriage, but she didn't know he was not nobody but the most powerful CEO in this city.
------
In a private hospital in Sherpole.
"Slap!"
Thea Scott received a hard slap in the face.
However, her father, Roger Scott, didn't stop. He wanted to give her another slap, but she grabbed his hand tightly, making him stop.
Thea stared straight at him with angry and icy eyes. Her voice was cold as she said, "Though I was born out of wedlock, you can't trample on my dignity like that!"
"Well, you're really out of line! Thea Scott! I was so kind to allow you to have my family name. Since you are a Scott, you have to obey what I said.
"It's not up to you to decide whether to marry him or not." Roger's big belly trembled as he shouted in anger, which made him look so funny.
Thea sneered.
"Do you even need me to tell you how the country law works? Do you want me to call the police?"
"Beetch!" Roger was livid with rage, and he roared furiously with an imposing manner.
Clang.
Thea opened the door of the ward, and some nurses happened to walk by.
Roger immediately stopped shouting but just glared at Thea.
"I gave you money to study abroad. Is disrespecting me what you've learned there? I would rather have spent the money on an idiot than you."
"Yeah, your money indeed all went to an idiot who stirred up trouble and needed me to clean up his mess!"
When Helen Scott, who had been sitting there and watching the show, heard Thea mocking her son, she couldn't help but yell, "Thea Scott, how could you be so ungrateful?
"It was with our money that you could live such a good life and study abroad! Shouldn't you return our kindness?"
"Can you stop flattering yourself? Have I ever spent a penny from your family in the past eight years? I was admitted to an abroad university through my own effort.
"Are you sure you want to bring this up? How about I give the president of that university a call? Or you can go to the bank to check if you have transferred a penny to me."
Thea calmly retorted. The Scott family didn't take her in until she was fifteen. She was aware that her mother had spent her last years to make that happen.
Although Thea was hated and even abused by the Scotts, she gritted her teeth and held on.
She would rather go to boarding schools than stay at the Scotts' place.
She studied hard and got free tuition and scholarships to support her study and life.
She had wanted to stay away from the Scott family by going abroad, but to her astonishment, the Scotts lied that her grandmother fell sick and needed her to come back.
It was totally a trap.
Thea's half-brother offended someone he couldn't afford to and needed her to clean up his mess by marrying that person.
How ridiculous!
None of them had the right to decide her fate.
Her voice successfully attracted many people's attention.
Seeing this, Thea raised her voice and continued, "Ryan made a mistake, yet you forced me to marry a strange man to make up for it. We are living in a law-governed society. Don't I have the right to decide on my own life?
"Mrs. Helen Scott, though I'm just your stepdaughter, I'm not such an eyesore of yours that you are so eager to marry me off, right?"
As soon as Thea said that, those onlookers instantly understood what was going on.
At the same time, they began to defend Thea and even accused Helen of being vicious.
Helen had never been treated like that before. She hurriedly stood next to Roger and stamped her feet in anger. "Hubby, look what she did"
Thea looked on coldly, and before Roger could speak, she cut in, "Dad, I know you have a son and a daughter with Helen, so you don't like me anymore. I could understand that.
"I don't want any property of the Scott family, and I won't step into your house again. Please don't meddle in my life. I can't agree to your request. Please forgive me."
After that, Thea turned around and took the opportunity to leave.
Roger glared in anger when he saw Thea running away.
"Thea Scott, come back! Come back, beetch!"
His cursing words provoked even stronger indignation among the onlookers. They all defended Thea and blocked the door.
They pointed at Roger and Helen and swore non-stop.
Roger couldn't bear it and had to close the door.
Helen had never expected Thea to become so tough after the latter studied abroad.
Thinking that it would be hard to explain themselves to the Raven family, Helen asked worriedly, "Hubby, what should we do now? The Raven family is pressing us to give them Thea."
Roger was very annoyed, too. "I won't let anything happen to our son."
In the blink of an eye, he came up with an idea.
He dialed a number at once.
Since Thea had returned home, she certainly would visit her mother's grave.
She placed a bunch of pink roses, her mother's favorite flowers, in front of the tombstone.
Staring at her mother's photo with a smile, she said, "Mom, I'm sorry that I didn't come back to visit you these years. You are not angry with me, are you?
"Don't worry. I'm fine. You have to take good care of yourself, understand?"
Thea had so many things to tell her mother and wanted to share her interesting abroad life with her, to find some peace of mind.
She knew that she could not leave Sherpole in a short time.
This time, she had to settle the things between her and the Scott family once and for all, lest something like that happened again.
"Mom, I'll come and visit you in another day, okay?"
Suddenly, a voice broke the silence.
"Tut-tut. You resemble your mother a lot. But you are much prettier, Thea."

##2.Chapter 2 Helping Her Out
Thea looked warily to the left.
There, she saw three men, and the leader among them was wearing a fancy shirt with a cigarette between his lips. He looked like a thug.
He didn't give the impression of being a good person.
However, this was a cemetery.
Who would be so bored as to come there to hit on girls?
"Who are you?" Thea reached into her bag and grabbed the pepper spray, glaring at them with narrowed eyes.
"Your future husband," the man said with a smile and threw the lit cigarette on the tombstone next to him.
Seeing this, Thea shot him an angry stare.
Even though she didn't know whose tombstone it was beside her mother's, the man's behavior was utter disrespect to the person buried there.
"I don't care who you are. Please show your respect. This is a cemetery. Pick up your cigarette," Thea yelled at him.
Unexpectedly, the man laughed out loud. "We are not married yet, and you already began to tell me what to do, honey. If I get you laid here, your mother will be happy to see that you got a man, won't she?"
Hearing these disgusting words, Thea flew into a rage.
"Who the hell are you!"
"Hmm? Didn't Roger tell you?"
Thea was confused.
Associating what happened at the hospital with this thug-like man, she realized something.
The man rubbed his chin with an extremely obscene expression on his face.
Thea suddenly realized that it was Roger who told this man that she was there.
That was why that man came there.
Even an animal would not hurt its child.
But Roger was so cruel to Thea.
Thea would bear this hatred in her mind forever.
"Sweetheart, let's have some fun together. We should be quiet at the resting place of those buried down here." The man pounced at Thea as he spoke.
Thea quickly took out the pepper spray and sprayed it directly in the man's face.
"Ahhhh!"
The man knelt on the ground in pain and covered his face.
"Mr. Raven, are you alright?"
"Go get that beetch! Get her! I'll kill you if I can't fvck her!"
Thea turned pale and turned to run.
These two bodyguards quickly chased after her.
Thea was very panicked, but she knew that she had to calm down. There had to be security guards at this cemetery, so she just needed to keep running until she found them.
'Right!
Security guards,' she thought.
Bang!
Caught off guard, Thea bumped into a man's arms.
She lost her balance, and her mind went blank. She thought she would fall to the ground.
But to her surprise, the man wrapped his arm around her waist and helped her to regain her balance.
"Mr. Howard."
"I'm fine." Thea heard the man say in a low and pleasant voice.
The next second, the man let go of her.
She immediately came to her senses. When she saw the bodyguards running after her, she grabbed the man's arm subconsciously and begged him. "Sir, please help me. Please help. I will return the favor if you help me this time."
"Hey, don't meddle in. Give that woman to me."
Thea hid behind Mr. Howard, and smelling his woody cologne, she managed to calm down for a while.
She felt helpless.
All her friends were abroad, so she couldn't call any of them for help.
She had no one to turn to in Sherpole.
"Are you really going to return the favor?" Mr. Howard asked.
His voice was so charming that Thea's heart skipped a beat at it. She raised her brows and looked at him, stunned to find that he looked so handsome with deep-set eyes. He had an air of aloofness about him and looked like a god of Greek mythology.
About 6'2 feet, he was wearing a suit, his skin tanned.
This moment, he gave the impression of being a dangerous and aggressive playboy.
But the next second, he seemed to be a fragile intellectual.
This puzzled Thea. She chilled out and replied, "Yes, you have my words."
She could do anything just to get rid of Roger's control and the thug's harassment.
"Deal with them," Mr. Howard said in an intimidating tone.
The men behind him got rid of the two bodyguards in minutes.
Thea breathed a sigh of relief. She was lucky to get help. Though she knew very well that Mr. Howard was no ordinary man, she was grateful that he helped her.
"Beetch! Where are you off to?"
It was the thug's voice.
Thea tensed up. "How did you offend him?" Mr. Howard asked her.
Thea replied through her teeth, "My half-brother offended him, and my father wanted me to clean up the mess by marrying this man."
"You don't want to marry him?"
"Of course I don't."
"I've just done you a favor. If you want me to help you deal with this man, you will owe me another favor, but you've used up your bargaining chip."
Thea was stunned by the words for a few seconds.
'What did he mean?
'Does he want to take advantage of me in this situation?' she wondered.
"Wh-what do you mean?" Thea was resigned. Now that she was in a dangerous situation, she had no other choice even if she saw through the man's intention.
She had just escaped from one trap and now fell into another.
"Marry me, and I'll resolve the trouble for you," Mr. Howard said.
He said he would do it for her, not to help her.
Thea gritted her teeth and found his request ridiculous.
How dare he even say that?
Unexpectedly, Mr. Howard added in a casual tone, "The Raven family is very powerful in Sherpole. You will be in grave trouble since you offended them."
Thea closed her eyes. Judging by how Roger was scared of the Raven family and desperate to marry her off, she knew her family had offended someone they couldn't afford to.
She gritted her teeth and agreed. "Fine! I'll marry you."

##3.Chapter 3 Going Back On Her Words?
As soon as Thea finished speaking, the thug who chased after her was taken down.
It happened so quickly that he didn't even have a clear glance at the man standing by Thea.
Seeing this, Thea couldn't help but feel worried. "Didn't you say that the Raven family was very powerful? Now that you beat him, won't you get into trouble?"
"Who told you that the Ravens were the only powerful ones in Sherpole?"
Thea compressed her lips.
When the thug who just got beaten up was dragged to Mr. Howard, he wanted to swear but stopped with fear when he recognized him.
"Mr.-Mr. Howard!"
The thug had never expected to meet Derrick, the third son of the Howard family, at the cemetery!
What rotten luck he had!
The thug's scared face convinced Thea of Derrick's words.
"I didn't know you were here, Mr. Howard. Please forgive me. This girl is my fiancee, and we had a quarrel just now. Please don't misunderstand it. What I said is true."
As soon as he finished speaking, the man who grabbed him hit him in the belly with his knee.
It hurt so much that he went down on his knees.
"How dare you try to touch my girl?"
"What? She is your girl? That's not possible. She just returned from abroad, and I never heard that you married a Scott. Or..."
The thug went pale when he heard Derrick's words.
He cursed Roger silently for like a thousand times.
In his eyes, Roger tricked him and got him in trouble.
"I really didn't know it, Mr. Howard. I didn't know she was your girl."
The thug was scared out of his wits. His family was rich, but not as awesome as the Howard family.
Compared with the Howard family, the Raven family was nothing.
Just at this moment, someone ran down from above the hill.
"Mr. Howard, the stuff in front of your parents' tombstone caught on fire, and a part of their photos was burned. We found a half cigarette there."
The words immediately reminded Thea of who threw the cigarette there.
The thug on the ground trembled all over in fear.
Derrick was keen enough to notice the man's guilty look. He lowered his eyes and asked in an icy voice, "Why are you looking so scared?"
"I-I'm not."
"Was it you who set the fire?" Derrick asked, but his voice was certain.
"No, no..."
Derrick tilted his head and asked Thea, "What do you think?"
"It's him!"
The thug immediately apologized again and again. "Mr. Howard, I didn't know it was your parents' tombstone. I really didn't know that. Please forgive me, Mr. Howard."
"Teach him a lesson and send him back to his family. Tell the Raven family that they owe me an explanation!" Derrick said casually.
The thug knew that he was done for.
Since he had offended the Howard family, his family couldn't make it up no matter how hard they tried.
In the car.
Thea held her breath with fixed attention. The whole thing happened so quickly, and now, when she calmed down and thought about it, she realized she had fallen into Derrick's trap.
She was not familiar with those rich and powerful families in Sherpole.
But she had heard a thing or two about the Howard family.
She didn't understand why Derrick, who had such an extraordinary background, would use foul means to make her marry him.
It was a bit absurd.
She couldn't figure it out.
"Where is your birth certificate?"
"It's in my bag." Though Thea had moved in the Scotts' place, she had brought all her important documents with her just in case when she traveled far.
However, she didn't expect she would really need to use them.
"Go to the City Hall."
Thea hadn't taken Derrick's words seriously before, and when she heard that they were going to the City Hall, she panicked.
She looked at Derrick nervously. "You know nothing about me, Mr. Howard. Isn't it a bad idea to get married so hastily?"
"Do you think I fell in love with you at first sight, so I want you to marry me?"
Thea looked into his eyes, but she couldn't read the emotions in them. His voice was gentle but detached.
"Why?"
"Just think about your situation. You can get benefits from me. If we get married, it will do good for both of us. Do you understand?" Derrick said slowly, his long legs crossed.
He talked like marriage was just a business deal, not something important that needed his careful consideration.
"Are you going back on your word?" Derrick asked in a cold voice.
Thea shook her head. "No."
"Good."
Derrick gave a bland response.
The car fell into silence once more.
They arrived at the City Hall, and in less than five minutes, they came out with their marriage certificates.
Thea held hers tightly, only to see Derrick threw his to the driver without even looking at it.
She pursed her lips. She now believed that Derrick was telling the truth.
He married her just because they needed each other's help. Their marriage was all about mutual benefits.
But now...
The marriage certificate dazzled her.
Thea never thought she would suddenly get married when she came back to handle the affairs related to the Scott family.
She took a deep breath and wondered what the Scott family would think if they found out that she married a Howard.
At the Begonia Manor.
The manor was Derrick's personal property.
Thea was not interested in the luxurious exterior of this building. She couldn't collect herself from the fact that she got married.
When she followed Derrick into the house, a famous painting hanging in the entryway caught her attention.
It was only natural that she had an impression of this painting.
She was an auctioneer bestowed with a pair of white gloves when she worked abroad, and the painting was exactly an item she auctioned.
Back then, the painting was sold for three billion dollars.
And the buyer was quite mysterious.
Thea never expected the mysterious buyer to be Derrick. | LEARN_MORE | https://www.yumread.com/share/middle/gpvzvu1hnuuqx | 102313572902564 | Oasisnovel | https://facebook.com/100094037070459 | 743 | 2 | 779,602,057,403,895 | 2024-02-26 02:00 | person_profile | eligible | 0 | 0 | NONE | 0 | 1 | 0 | 1 | Learn more | 0 | Oasisnovel | 120205773258090724 | www.yumread.com | NONE | video | https://www.yumread.com/share/middle/gpvzvu1hnuuqx5ef4dfnqkh0?ad_id={{ad.id}}&sid=120205773244200724&campaign={{campaign.name}}&adgroup={{adset.name}} | 2024-02-25 21:17 | https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/429681811_344960571865301_4748958752404007438_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_s60x60&_nc_cat=106&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=21N296ukdL4AX9uIn7i&_nc_ht=scontent-atl3-1.xx&oh=00_AfCpZCxNN1o4XFwtweb-74dkEXZ5Vtv_nZjyMsTW47uW-w&oe=65E229E5 | person_profile | 0 | Oasisnovel | https://scontent-atl3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/429658696_928963515365459_1468966243003559330_n.jpg?_nc_cat=111&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=D6DCOyMgjlcAX8iFsem&_nc_ht=scontent-atl3-2.xx&oh=00_AfC4GyHJNGVHMe_V3ahG7947YCvlox69fOBmG2a4Yoa19Q&oe=65E27861 | 0 | 3 | Oasisnovel | 0 | 0 | 2024-02-26 02:00 | View Edit Delete | |||||||||||||||||||||

He checked her phone and got floored at the message: Please come tomorrow for another prenatal care checkup!
=============

Chapter 1 Ex-girlfriend Returns

Raegan Hayes was a little absent-minded at the moment.

All she could think of since this afternoon was the doctor's words. "Congratulations! You are going to be a mom."

Suddenly, Mitchel Dixon pinched her arm. His low voice came the next second. "Come back to earth. What are you thinking about?"

Mitchel was her husband. They had been married secretly for two years. He was her superior at work, the president of the Dixon Group.

Everything had happened so fast. She was newly employed in the company when they unexpectedly got married.

At that time, Mitchel's grandfather fell seriously ill. It was then he proposed a fake marriage just to fulfill his grandfather's dying wish.

They signed a prenup, agreeing to hide their marriage from the public. Their union could be terminated at any time.

It was an unconventional thing to do. However, Raegan only considered herself lucky at that time.

Never in a million years did she think she would ever get married to the man she had a crush on for eight years. She delightfully agreed.

After their marriage, Mitchel was very busy. He spent most of his time working.

Raegan wished she could spend more time with him at home. However, she was rest assured because there hadn't been any rumors or scandals about him with women in the past two years.

Except for his mild indifference, Mitchel was a perfect husband.

Raegan had mixed feelings as she stared at the medical report.

In the end, she decided to tell Mitchel this news.

She also wanted to tell him that she hadn't learned about him for the first time two years ago and that she had been crushing on him for many years before then.

Just then, Mitchelâs phone rang. He went to the balcony and answered the phone.

Raegan checked the time and found that it was already midnight.

She felt a little uneasy. Who would call Mitchel at this hour?

Mitchel spent a few minutes on the balcony. Thereafter, he returned and changed into formal attire. His handsome face which had a clear outline made him look dignified.

He was something to see now.

"Don't wait up for me. Good night," he said finally.

What? He was on his way out? At this hour?

Raegan's grip on the report tightened as she stared at him in disappointment. Unconsciously, she withdrew slightly. After thinking for a while, she blurted out, "It's already so late."

Mitchel's fingers froze on his tie. With a faint smile, he pinched her earlobe and said, "Be good, okay? There's something I have to do. Don't wait up."

With that, he headed for the door.

"Mitchel."

Raegan quickly ran and caught up with him.

Mitchel turned around and looked at her seriously.

"What's the matter?"

There was a tinge of coldness to his voice. An icy cloud hung over them as they stared at each other.

A little distressed, Raegan asked in a low voice, "I would like to visit my grandma tomorrow. Can you accompany me there?"

Her grandmother always wanted to see her. As a result, Raegan wanted to take Mitchel there to assure her grandma they were happy.

"Let's talk about it tomorrow, okay?" Without agreeing or declining, Mitchel left in a hurry.

Several thoughts were threading Raegan's mind. She couldn't sleep a wink.

After tossing and turning for a long time, she went to the kitchen and made herself a warm glass of milk.

A few notifications from some online blogs came into her phone.

However, she wasn't interested in them. She was about to swipe them away when one of them caught her attention. The familiar name made her click on it.

The news read, "Famous designer, Lauren Murray was spotted at the airport with her mysterious boyfriend earlier today."

Lauren was wearing a bucket hat. The man's figure was vague, but the outline of his body was enough to show that he was dashing.

Raegan zoomed in on the picture. The next second, her heart dropped.

Mitchel was the man in the picture!

So, he canceled the afternoon meeting just to go pick up his ex-girlfriend from the airport?

This realization settled like a boulder in Raegan's gut, rendering her flustered.

Her hands trembled. Subconsciously, she dialed Mitchel's number.

The dial tone brought her back to her senses. Just as she was about to hang up, the line connected, and a voice came from the other end.

"Hello!"

It was a particularly gentle woman's voice.

Raegan froze for a second and then threw the phone away.

She suddenly felt sick in her stomach. Covering her mouth, she ran into the bathroom and threw up in the toilet bowl.

The next morning, Raegan went to work on time.

Mitchel had tried to get her to stop working after they got married. Stubbornly, she insisted on making her own money.

Mitchel didn't kick against her decision, but he asked her to work as his assistant, helping him with the daily chores.

The head assistant, Matteo Jenkins was left to take care of the major affairs Mitchel had.

Matteo was the only Dixon Group employee who knew about their marriage.

Since inception, only male assistants were hired for the president's office. Reagan was the first and only female. Her employment broke the protocol. As a result, other workers couldn't help but wonder if she was involved with Mitchel.

It took a while before they realized that Mitchel never gave Raegan special treatment. Strangely, this made them despise her even more.

After all, no one would last long in anything while taking advantage of their looks.

At this time, one of Raegan's colleagues handed her a document and ordered her to take it to Mitchel's office.

Mitchel didn't return home last night. Raegan was so worried that she didn't sleep at all.

All she kept thinking about was the woman who answered his phone when she called. What was her relationship with Mitchel?

Raegan already knew the answer to that, but she was still in denial.

It was difficult for her to come to terms with that fact.

Raegan tried to remain calm now. She reasoned that no matter what happened, she deserved a result that would be rewarding for all the years she spent loving Mitchel. This couldn't be all for nothing, right?

She pressed the elevator button calmly and went up to the president's office. Before she walked out of the elevator, she smoothed her hair to make sure she looked good.

She had arrived at the office, only to see that the door was ajar. A man's voice came. She halted instantly.

"Come on, man! Do you have any feelings for Raegan or not?"

The voice belonged to Luis Stevens, a childhood friend of Mitchel's.

"What do you mean exactly?" Mitchel asked in a cold voice.

"You know exactly what I mean!" Luis clicked his tongue impatiently and added, "I think Raegan is a good girl. Isn't she your type?"

"Do you want me to hand her over to you?" Mitchel asked carelessly.

"You know what, forget it!"

The scornful laughter of Luis sounded particularly harsh in Raegan's ears.

They were talking about her as if she were an object.

Raegan took a deep breath and tightened her grip on the document.

Soon, Luis's voice was heard again.

"By the way, I saw the gossip news about Lauren's mysterious boyfriend this morning. That was you, right?"

"Yes."

"Well, well, well! That woman still has you wrapped around her little finger. You always want to please her."

Luis sighed and continued to tease Mitchel. "As the old saying goes, absence makes the heart grow fonder. Tell me, did you two..."

Their conversation was like a thunder exploding over Raegan's head.

Her face turned pale and her body was as cold as ice.

The woman was indeed Lauren!

Absence made the heart grow fonder!

Every word drove a knife into her heart.

Several whispering voices filled her head at this time. She suddenly felt light-headed. Her vision became blurry.

She held the wall and took a step backward. Suddenly, the door was opened from inside.

"Raegan?"

Chapter 2 One-sided Love

Luis was the one who opened the door. It appeared he was on his way out.

Raegan balled her hands, turned to him, and nodded. "Hey, Mr. Stevens!"

Without waiting for him to respond to her greeting, she walked past him and entered the office with the document.

Mitchel was seated behind a large luxurious desk. In an expensive suit and matching tie, he looked particularly handsome.

Raegan noticed it wasn't the same suit he had on when he left home last night. How did he get changed?

With her eyes lowered, she swallowed that question and said instead, "Mr. Dixon, this is from the Marketing Department. Please sign it."

Mitchel was expressionless as he signed the document at a glance.

Raegan walked out the door as soon as he handed the document back to her. Luis was still standing at the threshold.

It wasn't until she went out of sight that Luis turned to Mitchel and said in a hushed tone, "Do you think she heard us?"

Mitchel's appealing eyes were expressionless at the moment. Obviously, he wasn't paying attention to what Luis was saying.

To Mitchel, Raegan had always been docile and never felt jealous of anyone.

Her strict obedience was all Mitchel demanded from her in exchange for treating her well.

In the elevator.

Raegan held her breath just to hold back her tears. Unfortunately, it didn't work.

She had thought two years would be enough for Mitchel to realize how much she loved him and reciprocate her love.

Now, it turned out that was just a pipe dream.

She realized she would always play second fiddle to Lauren, Mitchel's true love.

Reagan wiped her tears when the elevator halted. Save for her pale face, she looked normal when the doors opened.

She dragged herself to the break room, intending to make herself a cup of tea.

Several employees were chatting inside.

"Guys, have you heard? Lauren Murray is back."

"And who is that?"

"Oh, my! You don't know her? Lauren is the heiress of the Murray Group as well as a world-class designer. Most importantly, she's the only girlfriend Mr. Dixon has ever shown off in public. She's his first love!"

"Why is her return such a big deal? Isn't it rumored that there is something between Mr. Dixon and Raegan?"

"Raegan? She's nothing to Mr. Dixon. Mr. Dixon never admitted that he was dating her. And that is no surprise to me. After all, look at her. She's not even that beautiful. Yet, she behaves as if she's already Mrs. Dixon. What a fool!"

Standing at the door, Raegan smiled with self-mockery as she listened to them. It turned out everyone else saw the truth except her.

The love was one-sided.

"Ha-ha, have you finally woken up from your wild dream, Raegan?"

A voice of mockery suddenly came from behind. Raegan turned around to see Tessa Lloyd, Mitchel's cousin, who had always despised her.

Tessa must have also heard the employees gossiping.

The last thing Raegan wanted to do now was argue with Tessa in the company. She turned to leave, but Tessa blocked her way.

With a cup of coffee in her hand, Tessa uttered sarcastically, "Lauren is back now. Do you think Mitchel will still give you any attention?"

Raegan said nothing to that.

Seconds later, Tessa continued the ridicule. "Maybe itâs time for you to seek out another man, you pathetic fool."

Raegan clenched her fists and said coldly, "Ms. Lloyd, if you are interested in that kind of thing, feel free to pursue it yourself."

"You..."

Raegan's retort made Tessa's face change.

The next second, Tessa raised her hand and emptied the cup of coffee on Raegan.

Raegan didn't think for a second that Tessa would do something so crazy. She held up her arms just to block the liquid from her face. In no time, the coffee drenched her clothes.

Raegan frowned. "What did you do that for? Are you out of your mind?"

It was lunch break and many employees were free to watch the drama. Tessa was even more complacent when she saw growing onlookers.

She put on a mean-girl look as she said, "What makes you so smug every day, huh? Do you seriously think that others don't know you are just an orphan? The nerve of..."

Tessa was silenced by Raeganâs shove.

Her jaw dropped to the floor. She had never expected that Raegan, who was so quiet and timid, would shove her.

Tessa stuttered, "You... You pushed me? How dare you!"

Raegan eyed her and replied, "Yes, I did! It seems you need to be taught simple politeness."

Indeed, she lost her parents when she was a child. But that didn't mean she would allow someone to walk over her for it.

Wrinkles appeared on Tessa's face as she frowned in anger. As Mitchel's cousin, she was used to being fawned over and respected. This was the first time she had been treated like this.

Tessa charged at Raegan like a raging bull, poised to retaliate.

This time, Raegan was fully prepared for what was coming. She grabbed Tessa's wrist so that the latter couldn't move another inch.

Tessa was shorter than Raegan. As a result, she struggled like an octopus that had one of its tentacles stuck in a fishing trap.

Tessa cursed angrily, "How dare you put your hands on me? Who do you think you are?"

These harsh words attracted more people to the break room.

"That's enough!"

Out of the blue, a baritone came from behind. Mitchel had left his office and ran into this hullabaloo.

The entire room fell silent.

"Mitchel?" Tessa's blood ran cold at the sight of Mitchel. She had always been scared of him. Her mother also warned her against provoking him.

But when she remembered that Raegan humiliated her, she put on a pitiful expression and sobbed. "Mitchel, she bullied me."

The sunlight from outside fell on Mitchel's handsome face.

Raegan felt so grieved all of a sudden, and lowered her head to look at her clothes which were soaked with coffee.

Their gaze met in the air. With a deep frown, Mitchel looked at Raegan and said, "Raegan, have you forgotten the rules of the company?"

His ruthlessness made Raegan's breathing cease. She couldn't believe her ears.

No one dared to make a sound at this moment.

Raegan just stood straight there with her slender figure.

When she got employed here, Mitchel had told her that the Dixon Group wasn't a place for her to mess around and that he would not tolerate her making any mistakes.

Raegan could understand why he took this stand.

However, at this moment, she was desperate to know whether Mitchel had heard those hard words Tessa scolded her or he was just pretending not to have heard because he agreed to those words.

Was she truly insignificant to him?

Scared to death by Mitchel's rage, the crowd soon dispersed. A few employees were bold enough to peep from a distance, unwilling to miss the good show.

Mitchel's cold eyes made Raegan shiver from head to toe.

Raegan pinched her palm to suppress her emotions as she looked at Tessa.

"I'm sorry, Ms. Lloyd. As an employee of the Dixon Group, it was wrong of me to have offended you."

Eyeing Raegan, Tessa raised her chin complacently. "Humph! Don't think you'll be let off the hook just by making a simple apology. I don't buy..."

"The offence has nothing to do with the company. Personally, I refuse to apologize to you. Now, if you'd excuse me," Raegan chimed in.

She then walked past Mitchel without sparing him another look.

"You..."

Tessa's face turned blue after hearing what Raegan said.

Never in her years of being alive had she been so humiliated. She was always the bully, not the victim!

The humiliation was so much that scolding Raegan wouldn't appease her anger.

Pointing in Raegan's direction, Tessa shouted, "Mitchel, did you hear what that woman just said? She humiliated me, yet she's still so arrogant. Call her back. I have to teach her some manners!"

Mitchel, staring at Raegan's thin back, had an ambiguous expression at this moment.

"Enough!" he said coldly, raising his hand.

As someone who lived and breathed drama and cruelty, Tessa didn't think Mitchel was partial to Raegan just now. She assumed that Mitchel didn't care about Raegan at all.

Tessa gritted her teeth and said viciously, "Next time, I'll get someone to teach her a lesson."

"Tessa!" Mitchel's tone and squint made it a reproof.

Tessa trembled at once.

With a somber face, Mitchel said, "I'll only say it once. Forget about what happened here today. Leave Raegan alone."

The aura he exuded made her tongue go dry. All the vicious ideas she had in store against Raegan disappeared in an instant.

She stammered, "Ok... Okay, got it..."

Mitchel cast a cold glance at her and spoke to Matteo. "Irrelevant people wouldn't be allowed in here from today onwards."

Without catching the drift, Tessa flattered Mitchel. "Nice call. This is a top company. Not everyone gains access in here."

Matteo nodded to Mitchel and then walked over to Tessa. He gestured to the exit. "Ms. Lloyd, this way, please."

It wasn't until this moment that Tessa realized that she was the irrelevant person Mitchel just mentioned. She tried to speak to him, but Matteo blocked her way. The security guards then escorted her out.

They showed her no mercy. Her struggle was useless.

Meanwhile, Raegan got changed when she returned to her office.

Her heart was filled with sadness as she thought of how Mitchel looked at her minutes ago.

Closing hour soon rolled by.

Raegan took her bag and headed for the exit. However, Matteo stopped her.

He said, "Mr. Dixon has something urgent to deal with, so he asked me to drive you home."

Raegan declined the ride without thinking twice.

She was blind before, but now she could see through the situation.

In Mitchel's eyes, she was just a nobody.

How could Mitchel agree to accompany her to visit her grandmother when he didn't even care about her?

Upon arriving at the hospital, Raegan saw that the nurse was about to feed her grandmother dinner. Raegan took the job over and did it by herself.

All her life, her grandmother had been living in the countryside, enjoying a quiet life. Everything changed last month when her routine medical checkup showed that she was in need of medical care. Raegan insisted on bringing her to the city for better treatment.

Her grandmother wasn't aware of her marriage to Mitchel.

Raegan had planned to surprise her today. But as it turned out, that was no longer necessary.

Raegan waited for her grandmother to fall asleep before she left. She walked out of the hospital and waited for a taxi.

In the distance, a black luxury car pulled into the entrance of the hospital.

Raegan's eyes lit up when she saw it. She recognized that car as Mitchel's.

Did he come to pick her up?

At this moment, she forgot all the pain she had been feeling.

Were her thoughts about him all wrong? Did he care for her, contrary to the gossip?

The door of the driver's side opened and Mitchel got out.

Raegan started walking toward him with her heart brimming with joy.

Suddenly, she stopped dead in her tracks.

Mitchel had just walked over to the other side and carried a woman out of the car.

Worry and compassion were written all over his handsome face.

This wiped the smile on Raegan's face. Her heart sank.

Chapter 3 Let's Divorce

Mitchel's tall and straight figure got closer and closer to Raegan. And then, without saying a word, he strode past Raegan.

It was hard to tell if Mitchel saw Raegan or just ignored her.

Regardless, Raegan noticed that the woman in his arms was the same one who had been photographed with him yesterday.

She was Lauren.

Raegan's shoes felt like they were made of lead as she walked away.

She lost all awareness of her surroundings. She got into a taxi absentmindedly.

Suddenly, the driver uttered, "Ma'am, where to?"

Raegan was stunned for a moment.

She didn't want to go back to Serenity Villas. It was only a matter of time before that place stopped being her home.

After a while, she replied, "Please take me to Crystal Bay."

She had purchased an apartment at Crystal Bay after getting married to Mitchel.

At the time, she had hopes of bringing her grandmother to the city, so she bought the apartment on mortgage. It wasn't that big, but it had more than enough space for two people.

Mitchel didn't understand why she wanted to buy an apartment. He offered to give her a bigger one, but she declined.

Looking back now, she realized that buying that apartment was the only wise decision she had ever made in the last two years.

When she arrived at the apartment complex, Raegan sat in the park alone, trying to cool herself down.

The memories of the past two years were bittersweet.

Two years had passed in the blink of an eye even though it was more than seven hundred days and nights.

Love could move mountains, they said.

Yet, her love didn't move that stone of a man. She finally realized what a fool she had been. She had been making herself a laughingstock in front of everyone.

It was already late in the night before Raegan finally decided to go into her apartment.

As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, she saw Mitchel standing in front of the door.

His sleeves were rolled up casually, and the top buttons of his shirt were undone, which revealed his long neck and part of his collarbone. He was leaning on the wall by the door, his handsome face straight.

Raegan froze for a moment.

Why was he here? Didn't she see him at the hospital with Lauren? What brought him here?

Their eyes met. With his coat draped over his arm and one of his hands in his pocket, Mitchel squinted at her.

"Why didn't you answer the phone?" he asked, sounding a little grumpy like someone who hadn't slept in a long time.

Raegan took out her phone and saw she had accidentally put it on DND.

There were five missed calls from Mitchel.

This marked the first time in their two-year marriage.

Mitchel blew up her phone because he couldn't find her? Surprising!

Before today, she would have been overjoyed by this. People would've thought she won the lottery.

But now, she just threw her phone back into her bag, folded her arms, and said in a hoarse voice, "I didn't hear it ring."

Mitchel raised his hand to check the time on the watch, and said impatiently, "I've been looking for you for two hours."

After arranging everything for Lauren, he returned home to find an empty house. He looked for Raegan everywhere. When he couldn't find her, he asked Matteo to check the surveillance footage of all the roads that led away from the company.

He later found out that Raegan went to Crystal Bay without telling him.

"Next time, tell me when you are coming here, okay? Let's go home now." After that, Mitchel walked toward the elevator without sparing her another glance.

He meant to go back to Serenity Villas.

Raegan didn't move an inch. She just stared at his broad back and pondered reluctantly.

Would they have a future?

Mitchell turned around, only to see that Raegan hadn't taken a single step. He frowned and asked, "Can't you walk? Do you want me to carry you instead?"

The light in the corridor illuminated his face, making his side profile almost impeccable.

Raegan took a deep breath and said, "Let's divorce."

"What do you mean?"

Mitchel's voice was cold, and his handsome face changed immediately.

"I want to move into my own place. After all, we will be strangers soon."

Raegan forced a smile, but her heart was aching as if someone was tearing it apart bit by bit.

"We will be strangers?"

Mitchel smiled coldly. "Raegan, what do you think our relationship is now?"

His questioning left Raegan stunned for a moment.

Mitchel had made it very clear to her from the very beginning. This facade of their marriage had happened by mutual agreement. There was no love. In the eyes of others, they were nothing more than just a superior and a subordinate.

Mitchel was quite the catch in Ardlens. Many young ladies longed for his love and were even willing to throw themselves at him.

His question just now reminded her of that fact. Was he afraid that she wouldn't let him go that easily? If that was the case, he couldn't be more wrong...

After biting her lower lip to conceal her bitterness, Raegan said, "I'm sorry, Mr. Dixon. I was giving it too much thought. Anyway, please leave me alone from now on. You don't have to come here again."

After saying that, Raegan couldn't help but burst into tears.

How could she not be sad when she was cutting ties with the man she had loved for a decade? It was such a long time.

Regardless of how difficult it was, she knew it was time to let go.

It was high time she stopped being a fool.

Strangely, the light in the corridor began flickering.

The deathly stare Mitchel was giving Raegan right now made the atmosphere seem like the moment before an attack in a horror movie.

Although he understood that Raegan sometimes could throw a tantrum, he felt that she had just crossed the line now.

His eyes shone like blazing torches at this moment. But when he saw the tears in her eyes, the rage inside him extinguished in an instant. He said in a low voice, "If this is about what happened between you and Tessa, I..."

"No, this isn't about her. Mr. Dixon, please leave now."

A lot of things happened between them. And the incident with Tessa didn't come close to any.

Raegan felt exhausted. She passed by Mitchel and was about to open the door.

Yet, Mitchel was displeased with her stubbornness.

He loosened his tie irritably. He then took a step forward and grabbed her wrist.

"Stop this, will you?"

A second later, he put his arm around her shoulder and pulled her into his arms.

He instantly realized that she was burning up like someone who had been set on fire.

"You have a fever?"

Raegan felt dizzy. She rested her head on his chest weakly.

This made the whole situation complicated.

Reagan was slow to catch that. When she finally realized that her body was too close to his, she put her hands against his chest and tried to pull back.

Before she could escape, Mitchel pulled her back and held her by the waist. With a cold face, he said in a low voice, "Where do you think you are going?"

The light flickered again. Out of the blue, Mitchel lifted her up.

He then headed for the elevator.

In a daze, Raegan asked softly, "What are you doing?"

"What does it look like I am doing?" Mitchel remarked. "Taking you to the hospital, of course."

"No way!" Raegan cried out in surprise and seemed to regain more strength.

Mitchel might find out about her condition if they went to the hospital.

Raegan struggled to get out of Mitchel's arms. However, his tight grip made her efforts fruitless.

"Don't be so stubborn. You are sick, so you must see the doctor," Mitchel said firmly.

He walked to the elevator with her in his arms. At this moment, Raegan's heart was thumping so hard that it could jump out of her chest. She flailed in protest.

"Put me down! I don't want to go to the hospital!" | INSTALL_MOBILE_APP | http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.c | 104447748966433 | Best love stories | https://facebook.com/100082372766948 | 9,568 | 1 | 1,773,827,756,356,180 | 2024-02-25 02:00 | person_profile | eligible | 0 | 0 | NONE | 0 | 1 | 0 | 1 | Install now | 0 | Best love stories | 120205470600820052 | play.google.com | NONE | video | http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.changdu.ereader | 2024-02-21 21:30 | https://scontent-atl3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/428608936_1108424853839257_3943198627905227440_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_s60x60&_nc_cat=105&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=hkmWSi-qJiYAX8n2YQb&_nc_ht=scontent-atl3-2.xx&oh=00_AfB2sQH6cBZ3mId7nAgWtKd0S1vbT7XEG_esp5pvXoUpYA&oe=65E177B1 | person_profile | 0 | Best love stories | https://scontent-atl3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/428609530_1623224951550387_1021475203462147537_n.jpg?_nc_cat=102&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=uksz9oQ3yDAAX_SiwFp&_nc_ht=scontent-atl3-2.xx&oh=00_AfBhxhfY2I_LaVOvUpS_X_2cmWsPsVw3rh1t3Ncvz2lAeg&oe=65E2572C | 0 | 3 | Best love stories | 0 | 0 | 2024-02-25 02:00 | View Edit Delete | |||||||||||||||||||||

He checked her phone and got floored at the message: Please come tomorrow for another prenatal care checkup!
=============

"Put me down! The Health Benefits to Acupressure --> | Acupressure is a type of massage therapy in which manual pressure is applied to specific points on the body. It is a practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that is similar to acupuncture, except that it uses fingertip pressure instead of needles.

Acupressure is said to help with a range of conditions, from motion sickness to headache to muscle pain. Acupressure benefits are achieved by using pressure points along the energy pathways in the body, to encourage the free flow of energy, or qi.

Acupressure treats blocked energy, and some think the pressure may cause the release of endorphins, natural pain-relieving chemicals in the body. Others think the pressure may influence the autonomic nervous system, the part of the nervous system that controls involuntary things like your heart, digestion, and breathing.

According to the principles of TCM, invisible pathways of energy called meridians flow within the body. At least 14 meridians are thought to connect the organs with other parts of the body. If qi is blocked at any point on a meridian, itâs thought to cause health problems along that pathway.

You can use acupressure to handle many common family concerns. Join us for this introductory class, where we will discuss the acupressure process, some useful acupressure points and how to address some familiar conditions. | LEARN_MORE | https://internationalintegrative.com/product/intro | 619155258102733 | K.P. He checked her phone and got floored at the message: Please come tomorrow for another prenatal care checkup!
=============

"Put me down! I don't want to go to the hospital!" | INSTALL_MOBILE_APP | http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.c | 104447748966433 | Best love stories | https://facebook.com/100082372766948 | 9,568 | 1 | 412,703,987,928,374 | 2024-02-26 02:00 | person_profile | eligible | 0 | 0 | NONE | 0 | 1 | 0 | 1 | Install now | 0 | Best love stories | 120205470236960052 | play.google.com | NONE | video | http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.changdu.ereader | 2024-02-21 21:21 | https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/428668503_1130741431449115_8693043921986082471_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_s60x60&_nc_cat=109&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=COeZrb14F9kAX8ju8Bo&_nc_ht=scontent-lax3-1.xx&oh=00_AfClI8YMdq2MPsgpAZP8g9zjUBLWMGwpos0KKbjUxISwFA&oe=65E28B80 | person_profile | 0 | Best love stories | https://scontent-lax3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/429531417_916848343312178_5890657143956113191_n.jpg?_nc_cat=107&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=t1En3VDH9qQAX98sTa1&_nc_ht=scontent-lax3-2.xx&oh=00_AfBvXlF-sPA9NtxYWA6-wVmySGFunEAC483M37kQEa6dSg&oe=65E1257E | 0 | 3 | Best love stories | 0 | 0 | 2024-02-26 02:00 | View Edit Delete | |||||||||||||||||||||
