He has drummed it into my head several times that he didn't want a baby with me. That he didn't love me and if I tried to be stubborn and get pregnant we would be on our own… I and the baby.
I was going to leave… with my non-existent dignity and the pup in my womb.
————————
When the car halted in front of the pack house, Xavier drove off without saying another word to me. Sighing, I started to the door, ignoring the snickering sounds from the Deltas on duty. None of them respected me and I couldn't blame them. My husband always disrespected me in front of them.
"Do you want our help, Luna?" One of them called out "Are you sure you can walk?"
Ignoring their taunts, I continued walking. I could feel my breaths coming in short gasps.
"Our weak Luna," One of the Deltas taunted again and placed his hand on my back to push me when I felt a loud thud followed by a shriek. I turned to find Lucius – Xavier's Beta pinning my assailant on the wall, his pupils were black with anger.
"Show some respect for her, she's your Luna. The next time I catch any of you trying to disrespect her, I'll have your heart for dinner,".
He finally let the Delta go and they scurried away like scared cats then he turned and smiled at me before starting in my direction.
"Is it me or are you glowing today?" he stopped in front of me, a serious expression on his face as he pretended to scan through my body.
Lucius was the only one who cared for me in the pack. He was always at loggerheads with Xavier because of the way I was treated but there was not much he could do anyway. He was just a Beta and he was bound to Xavier.
"Please," I chuckled jabbing at him lightly on the ribs "I think it's the Mug wort shot. Why didn't you tell me you were coming in today?" I complained, "I could have made your favourite,".
"And have you wear yourself out? Nah! Besides, I wanted this to be a surprise and…" he gave me another smile as his hand disappeared into the blazers he was wearing. When he brought them out, he had a necklace dangling between us.
"What's that?" I looked at him curiously.
"Happy birthing Selene. I know this is coming late but I hope you this will make it up,".
"Oh, Lucius," I fought back tears as I collected the shiny pearls from him "It's beautiful and thank you for never forgetting my birthday,".
"You're welcome," he chuckled and took them away from me again "I'll put it on for you,".
I swept my hair to one side on my shoulders and stood silently as Lucius fumbled with the clasp on the necklace until finally, he got it right. As I turned to thank him, my phone vibrated in my pocket.
Giving him an apologetic smile, I fumbled in my bag for the phone and was surprised when I saw it was Doctor Trisha calling. Surprised, I answered the call.
"Hi Trisha,".
"Selene," she sounded excited, "Remember how you complained of being overly weak these days,".
"Yes,"
"Well, I was just messing around with your blood sample, trying to see if there was something, I could add to give you a burst of energy. Well," she paused and in a shrill announced "You're pregnant,".
"You're with child, Luna Selene… You're going to be a mother,".
Selene POV
The phone slipped from my hand and clattered on the ground as I froze with shock.
A baby? Was it even possible?
"Selene!" Lucius stared at me with worry "Are you alright? Did something happen?"
"No," I shook my head still in a daze, I managed a small smile "I'm fine, just tired. I'll go to my room now and rest,".
"Are you sure?" his gaze searched mine doubtfully.
"Yes, Lucius," I nodded "I'm just tired and a little rest would help me. You know how tired I get,".
"Maybe I should call Xavier," he suggested and pulled out his phone.
Tears blurred my eyes as I thought about how Xavier would react if I told him about the baby. He has drummed it into my head several times that he didn't want a baby with me. That he didn't love me and if I tried to be stubborn and get pregnant we would be on our own… I and the baby.
"You know it'll change nothing," I said softly placing a hand on his arm to stop him "I already wasted his time this morning when he drove me to the Pack Hospital. He will not come again,".
I saw pity flash in Lucius's eyes as he nodded and insisted that he would see me to my room before he leaves. As Xavier's Beta… there was not much he could do. Like me, he was bound to Xavier through the Beta bond and there were certain things he couldn't do.
My room was a tiny box located at the end of the same floor; as Xavier's room. I had chosen it because it was the warmest in the whole house. Due to my weak nature, modern heating didn't do much for me and since I didn't sleep on the same bed as Xavier, I was constantly cold.
But the room was perfect because it had a single, high window, and clay walls and it helped me block the impact of sounds from the footsteps of others or whenever Xavier's perfect girl – Belinda came around.
I sat on my bed, trying to think. It was said that having a baby in this kind of union could help break the mate bond between us by at least 50%. Which meant, Xavier would no longer need to mate with me every full moon for strength. And also, a baby could bring love… but it was very rare.
Slowly, I placed my hand on my stomach, wondering if this pup was healthy. The chances of giving birth to a healthy pup like Xavier or a pup as weak as me was 50%. So, I could either do away with the pup or take chances with it.
A small knock sounded on my door and before I had the chance to react, Xavier burst into my room. He was looking furious.
"What is it?" he barked looking at me coldly.
My eyes widened with surprise at his presence. I wasn't expecting to see him until another full moon. Why was he here?
"N-Nothing," I stuttered eyeing him fearfully.
"Don't be difficult, Selene," he scowled "Lucius said you had a call from the hospital and was frightened by it. What is it?"
I opened my mouth to tell him about the news from Doctor Trisha but I paused for a second to look at the man standing in front of me. He wouldn't care. Worst case scenario, he would ask me to schedule an appointment for an evacuation and I felt my heart squeeze with fear.
Suddenly, I wanted to protect the life growing inside me; even from its father.
"It was nothing," I said calmly "I'm sorry I reacted that way… I had a weak spell at that moment and my phone fell to the ground,".
His eyes softened for a moment… but I knew my eyes were playing tricks with me because, in the next instant, he flung a pack of wild blueberries at me.
"Eat that… it'll help you recover," he said gruffly. "Have you had something to eat today?" he followed up.
In our seven years of marriage, Xavier had never wondered about if I ate or not. Aside from Lucius and my parents, no one has ever asked me if I was hungry or if I wanted to eat. Was this it? The thing the old tales said about a baby sparking love? Could he feel that I was with child?"
"Are you deaf, Selene?" he demanded "Say something,".
"I only got to my room, I'll go down to the kitchen and eat something later on,".
"If you don't eat, how do you expect to remain healthy," he hissed and was going to say something more but decided against it and said instead "Don't go down to the kitchen, I'll ask a maid to bring you food and try to rest. You look like death,".
With that, he turned on his heels and walked out of the door.
That was strange.
A few minutes later, true to his promise, a maid came into my room with a food cart and waited until I was done eating. I didn't know what to make of this but I felt hopeful. Perhaps, this baby would change things between us and we would be able to live as true mates.
It was with that thought that I drifted off to sleep.
~~~
I don't know how long I slept but when I opened my eyes, it was dark and it felt like my bladder would burst if I didn't go to ease myself. Stumbling through the darkened room, all thanks to my night vision which was a thousand times stronger than an average wolf, I walked out of my room towards the bathroom at the other end of the corridor.
As I passed by Xavier's room, something strange happened… I smelt him out. It was almost impossible for me since my wolf was super tiny and didn't have its nasal sensory activated.
His scent was the smell of the earth after rainfall and strangely… I knew it was his without being told. My wolf, Bea, sighed in relish as his scent wafted into our nostrils again. From the light in his room, I knew he wasn't asleep yet.
My wolf was excited as she urged me to go to him.
"Tell him about the baby," she insisted "I'm sure he'll be happy,". She said.
As I placed my hand on the doorknob… another scent hit me. It was strawberries with a tang of lemon and it was coming from Xavier's room. Confused, I pushed the door slowly to reveal Belinda bent over the pool table in Xavier's room undressed while he pounded her from behind.
His face glistened with excitement and raw pleasure as he thrust into her while Belinda moaned like a banshee.
He threw his head backwards and his movements became unstable…in one final heave, he emptied himself inside her while my heart shattered into a thousand pieces.
This wasn't the first time; I had seen them like this but Xavier's plea for Belinda to carry his child kept ringing in my ears as I watched the couple lock lips again.
My breath caught in my throat, suffocating me as the weight of the truth finally settled on my shoulders… I and Xavier would never be true mates. He would never love me like he did with Belinda or mate me so lovingly… he never even pecked me.
Xavier must have sensed my presence because our eyes met and he stared back at me with defiance and almost mockery boldly written in his eyes. The ache in my heart intensified as I looked at the stranger who had been my husband for seven years and tears gathered in my eyes.
I clutched the doorway for support, my knuckles turning white… The baby wouldn't change anything. This was reality and the stupid legendary tales would not work for me.
Emotions surged within me – first, it was pain and then anger followed by a profound sense of loss. At that moment… it felt like there was a disconnect between me and Xavier. Silently, I closed the door and turned back to my room, forgetting about the reason why I had woken up in the first place.
As I walked back the quiet corridor to my room… I allowed the tears to flow freely… I was mourning not only because I'd been enduring my cheating husband for seven years without complaint but because I would finally set myself free.
I was going to leave… with my non-existent dignity and the pup in my womb.
After that, I carefully unwrapped the small plastic bag filled with items to help me cut off from Xavier completely. As it is with Werewolf custom… whenever mates wanted a divorce… aside from the official filling of the divorce forms, both mates had to reject each other.
Anyway, I spread out my clove seeds, some fried fennel seeds, two fresh bay leaves and a strand of my hair before me. I mixed the ingredients until they formed a smooth paste. Then, taking a brush I had stolen from Xavier's study, I dipped it into the mixture, then turned to the sandpaper spread before me and slowly etched out…
"I, Selene Thorne Steele, Luna of the Greyhound Pack – daughter of Alpha Thorne of the Golden Moon Pack and Wife to Xavier Steele – Alpha of the Greyhound Pack… reject you, Alpha Xavier Steele as mate and husband. May your mark, a symbol of our bond, seize to be potent from this day and onwards".
I laid down the brush, took a knife and slowly slashed it across my wrist holding it on the sandpaper as droplets of my blood touched it. The world reeled back and for a moment the room seemed to dim when I opened my eyes, the wound on my wrist had healed and the blood which was on the sandpaper had vanished alongside the words I etched.
"It worked," I said sadly reaching for Xavier's mark on my neck and wondering why it was still there.
I stood up and crept in that darkness to Xavier's study where I dropped the sandpaper alongside the divorce form.
By the time I showered and dressed, it was 6 am. My flight was in two hours but I wanted to leave so early so I would not bump into any familiar face. After sneaking out of the house, I took one final look at the pack house, swallowing the hot tears that blinded my eyes for a moment.
This was my security… this has been home for me for the longest time and I was scared of leaving but I had to think of my pup. No matter what, it didn't deserve to feel the hatred I had to put up with for seven years… So yes… I was going to leave and I had no regrets.
8:25 am – Ace Airport, Greyhound Pack territory
As I wondered if Xavier had discovered the divorce form and the rejection slip, the thunderous roar of the engines echoed through the cabin rattling the plane violently. My hands immediately settled on my stomach protectively as I looked away from the window to know what was happening.
"Attention passengers, this is your pilot and we've hit turbulence. Be rest assured that we're doing everything in our capacity to steady the plane. Please put on your seatbelts and await further instructions from us,".
I clasped on my seatbelt immediately and clung to my seat, until my knuckles were white with terror. The lights inside the plane kept blinking and a lot of beeping sounds filled my ears.
The flight attendants rushed into the first-class cabin, their faces etched with a mix of urgency and anxiety. Then, the plane started to descend…I could feel scattered shouts coming from other cabins and the pilot's voice above the chaos.
I closed my eyes as a small, painful smile settled on my lips. To think I had fled my husband's house in pursuit of freedom only to be trapped in this mess. I was going to die no doubt.
I thought of the pup in my womb and regret swirled in my mind… it'll never see the world… I wanted to meet it so much. Suddenly, the plane landed with a loud thud, the impact had me flying from my seat and in those final moments that I closed my eyes welcoming the darkness that teased me…
And then… silence.
Xavier POV
I jerked awake, clasping my head with both hands as my ears rang.
"Xavier, are you alright?" she rushed to my side.
Her voice sounded afar. Trying to still the ringing in my ears, I roused myself from the ground and staggered out of the room towards Selene's bedroom, I needed her.
"Selene!" I called under my breath pushing the door, open but what greeted me was a messy bed and no sign of Selene.
Selene never leaves her bed messy.
Groaning in pain, still holding my head, I turned back and staggered out of the room. I met Belinda watching me with concern in her eyes.
"Xavier, what's wrong with you? Should I get the pack doctor?" she inquired anxiously.
I pushed past her, trying to pick up Selene's scent which filled the corridor. Tracing it, I came out of the house onto the terrace and lost it completely.
"Selene," I screamed into the morning, getting frustrated by the ringing in my ears that wouldn't stop.
While I was still standing there, Lucius sprinted towards me, his face was filled with confusion.
"Alpha, are you alright? I felt some discomfort through our bond and came as soon as I could,".
"S-Selene," my breaths were coming out in gasps as I clutched my chest tightly. "I need her,".
"I'll go fetch her from her room," Lucius said immediately and tried to walk past me but I grabbed him, tugging him back with what was left of my strength.
"She's not there," I gasped and turned to the pack guards that had drawn closer "Where is my wife?" I asked staring at every one of them.
I watched with anger as they exchanged confused glances without responding.
"Are you all deaf or something?" I barked, grabbing the head guard by his collar "Where is our Luna? Where are the Deltas assigned to her?"
"I-I don't know, Alpha," he trembled making choking sounds "I wasn't the guard on duty until this morning,".
Lucius instructed the guard before peeling my hands away from his collar and carrying me into the pack house. Every part of my body was on fire. My wolf, Colton was whimpering in pain, making it difficult for me to change into my wolf form.
Lucius laid me on the bed and instructed Belinda to fetch some ice compressors from the kitchen.
"I've texted, George, he's on his way," Lucius said quietly as he settled the blanket around me.
His eyes were quiet and I knew it was because of Belinda's presence. He didn't approve of my relationship with her.
"Selene…" I wheezed…".
"Preserve your strength, Xavier…" he said quietly as he stood up and went towards the window "You'll need it,".
"Don't you dare walk out of me, Lucius," I said angrily "You're close to Selene… surely you must know where she went to,".
"The last time I saw her was two days ago. Aren't you ashamed of yourself that you have no idea where your wife is?" he scoffed.
"It's normal for me to want to be with another woman," I defended "The curse doesn't allow me to love Selene. You know that more than anything,".
"Or you're simply not trying," he replied. "The curse is just an excuse for you to cheat on your wife. If I had someone as beautiful, charming and intelligent as Selene… there'd be no need to look outside. Curse or not…".
The moon priestess had said she possessed powers far greater than even the strongest of moon priests. One touch was all that was needed and no matter how much I hated her… it was my fate for us to be together.
The door opened and George, the pack doctor rushed in with two of his assistants.
"Alpha, Beta," he nodded politely to me and Lucius "I'm sorry for the delay… I came as fast as I could,".
"Is there anything you can do for him?" Lucius came to stand by the bed.
George didn't respond immediately; he placed the tip of his middle finger on my chest and closed his eyes to get me diagnosed. When he opened them, they flickered in confusion.
"Luna Selene…" he asked tentatively "Where is she?"
"She was here," I announced and walked briskly following the scent.
It led me directly to my office which was slightly ajar. I threw the door apart, hoping to see her, but the office was empty. I spotted a closed file, sandpaper and Selene's wedding band on my desk.
Alarmed, I crossed the room immediately and picked up the wedding band wondering what it was doing on my desk. My eyes flitted to the sandpaper; it was empty.
Lucius had picked up the file and I noticed that he froze when he opened it.
"god!" he muttered under his breath before thrusting it to me "I knew this was coming,".
"What is coming?" I asked.
"That's a divorce agreement signed with her signature and her seal,".
"That's not possible," I chuckled looking at the so-called agreement "Selene would never leave me. She knows what will become of her when she does,".
"Then how can you explain this and the wedding band?"
"I think she was kidnapped or something. Selene doesn't have the balls to leave. Besides, where would she go, her parents are dead. Her pack was merged with ours… We've been married for 7 years, she cannot just leave,".
"You forgot to mention that in those seven years, you've treated her worse than a slave. You ignore her… you scream at her as you would a pup… not to mention your wild marital affairs. Maybe she's had enough and left,".
"It's not my fault that I don't like her," I said through gritted teeth "It's the curse,".
"For sake, Xavier," Lucius slammed his hand on the desk "The curse didn't ask you to maltreat your wife. Did you even know she was pregnant?"
"Pregnant?" My eyes widened in disbelief "Did she tell you that?"
"god," Lucius ran a hand through his hair "I hate that I am your Beta…If I have my way, I would leave too,".
"How did you know she was pregnant?" I asked ignoring his comment.
"Why did you think I called you that day and told you to come home? I overhead someone telling her on phone that she was with child. I thought she told you,".
"She didn't," I sank into my chair trying to wrap my head around the information.
After the call ended, I stared at Lucius, he had an exasperated look on his face. I closed my eyes trying to forget the hurt I had seen in her eyes last night when she stood at the door watching me mate with Belinda.
Why was she in my room at the hour? I'm running because my so-called mate has someone else, and he doesn't even deny it. I ran because I can't handle another messed up, idiot, self-centred and entitled Alpha to stomp on my heart. If you want to reject me, fine! But don't you dare to come running after me and ask ME why I AM running."
"Elijah."
"What?!"
"Elijah. Not Alpha Jackson. It's just Elijah to you, darling." I raise an eyebrow. It's official; he's completely disillusioned.
—
Elijah P.O.V.
Knock, knock, knock.
I know that knock. Mother.
"Enter." I say, gritting my teeth for her nagging attitude regarding my lack of a Luna.
"Elijah, what are you doing?" I raise an eyebrow at her question, finding it rather obvious what I am doing.
"What does it look like, mother?" She scuffs. Thalia Jackson, my esteemed mother, seemingly does not find my sense of dry humor amusing today. My father is Desmond Jackson, and his grandfather founded Jewel City and our pack; the Jewel Pack. He worked hard in the real estate business, and it paid off. I think ten generations after me could live off the money he and my father have earned in their lifetime, without working, and still be comfortable. But I will not let them down, and they have instilled a high working moral in me since childhood.
I'm the eldest of three. My brother Dale is my beta, only because our beta couple had their baby stolen 18 years ago. Dale is 18, I'm 22 and our youngest sister Lauren is 16. Our parents did it like rabbits, had us, and then dad had the snip. They didn't want any more children, even though the mother acts like all of the young ones in the pack are her own biological children. Like a mother hen.
"Very funny, mister. Dale called. He needs you in town." I raise an eyebrow.
"That's funny, because to me he said he and Selena were coming home in a hurry because he had urgent news." Mother scrunches her nose at the mention of Selena. She is an opportunist, and as so she is trying to get Dale to take her as his chosen mate. I told him he would be kicked out as my Beta if he ever did that.
"Okay, okay, Alpha Derek and his lovely daughter are in town, and they were hoping you would have.."
"No! I'm not meeting anymore boring daughters. I don't care about breed, and you shouldn't either. I will meet my mate when I meet her, and until then I have a pack and family business to run." I dismiss her with a handwave, but she doesn't leave. Instead she sits down.
"Eli. You are 22, you need a Luna! I can't keep doing the Luna duties just because you refuse to take a chosen mate. I only want what is best for you, darling."
"No, you want what is best for you, and who you choose for me. I will not do that. I'm waiting for my fated mate, and that is the end of that." I stare at her over the papers. She sighs, and opens her mouth to argue with me, but the brisk knock on the door prevents her from doing so.
"Come in." Dale opens the door, ready to tell me his urgent news, but he hesitates when he lays eyes on our mother.
"Was there anything else, mother?" She narrows her eyes, her mouth a thin line. Without another word she walks out the door and stomps down the hallway.
"Where's barbie?" I ask, amusement twinkling in my eyes. Dale rolls his.
"Selena had things to attend too."
"So, doing her makeup then. What was that urgent matter?" He closes the door behind him, and in the drift from the doors movement I get a whiff of jasmine and roses. It's fresh and sweet, and makes my mouth go dry from expectations. Fenris perks his ears, his snout sniffing the air from my mind. He wags his tail.
'Is that what I think it is?'
'It could be. But I'm not sure.' Fenris answers with uncertainty.
"There's a newcomer to town." Dale says,
looking at his fingers as if he couldn't care less. I wonder what happened to make him act like this.
"Hold on two seconds, bro. I've mindlinked Ashton to come here and hear this. He needs to be involved as well." Dale nods and we talk about business until Ashton knocks on the door. He walked in before I could say it, knowing we were waiting for him. When he takes a seat, Dale repeats the part with the newcomer.
"And? Humans move all the time." Ashton says, arms crossed. Dale shakes his head.
"Didn't say she's a human, did I?" This gets our attention. She? Maybe I did smell right before. I leaned forward, my attention peaked.
"Rogue?" I growl, hoping it's not true.
"No. A lone wolf. Definitely packless, but she's not a rogue. She oozes power, and she has a lot of knowledge of our laws." His jaw sets into an annoyed expression, and by now I can see what happened.
"She told you off?" I say with laughter. Dale rolls his eyes, as both Ashton and I roll over laughing. Dale is scary looking at best, and no one ever comes near him unless they know him. He's a big softball on the inside, and to have him be told of by a strange girl. This is just all too funny.
"Okay, I'm interested. Where can I meet this lone wolf girl?" Dale smirks.
"She's living in a neutral zone, and she has no intention to trespass into pack land, so you can't do anything about her. But she is renting the old cottage by the lake. The one Amy owns."
"So she thinks she can take a pass on meeting the residing Alpha, huh. Well, let's see about that. We'll give her a couple of days to get comfortable in the cottage before visiting her. I may not be able to get her to move in, but I make sure she is no threat to our pack." Ashton and Dale nod, and leave the office.
In our distance I can hear music blasting from the cottage because all the windows and doors are open to let the air in. Then I can hear something else. A voice. A female voice. Everything in me stops for a second when I hear her singing. Her voice is of an angel, and I just have to see her. Just have to have a glimpse of her. Is she as beautiful as her voice indicates? It draws me in, captures me and sends me in a direct line to craziness.
Then a figure walks out onto the patio, still singing and making happy dance moves. I lift my head, just an inch, and then I see her. She is the image of the goddess herself. Her hair is the color of rich honey, going down her back in long wavy threads. Her body is curvy, but still fit as a she-wolf would be because of our high metabolism. She stops what she's doing, and then her head turns in our direction and I almost howl to the sky in joy. Her eyes are shining green and full of life, though looking a bit suspicious at the moment. Fenris is fighting with me for full control so he can go claim his mate, but we agreed in not doing that.
As she goes back inside I indicate to Dale with my head to go back.
'She's something else, huh.' He knows. Or he suspects.
'You keep her safe until further notice. And Dale. Not a word to mom or dad.' He nods his wolf head.
...
Isabella P.O.V.
On the patio I get the feeling of being watched. It's not an unpleasant feeling, just.. Weird, and a bit unnerving.
'Don't worry, doll. They are not here to hurt us.'
'What do you know, Emmy?'
'I have a feeling, but nothing for sure. I'm just sure they are not here to hurt us.' I shake the feeling and decide to get the other things later. I go inside when I hear the washer go off again.
After changing around again I fold the towels, and the clothes I've done so far before putting them away in the bathroom and bedroom. I have a feeling it's safe to go outside now, and as I look at the clock on the wall in the living room, I decide to go and look around outside before making myself dinner.
Outside I take a walk around the house, smiling when I realize I overlooked a patio out the back as well. It has an old barbeque, some old lawn chairs and a table. Excellent, then I'll just have to get some good meat and charcoal. On the other side of the house than where I parked my car, there is a small but useful shed. It has gardening tools, which I have absolutely no knowledge about, but I can learn. I made a decision to buy myself a computer, as there is already internet installed out here.
I fetch my fishing rod, gear, ax and wood from the truck and put it all in the shed. Then I lock the truck, and move to the back of the house again. It actually has a firepit, but it needs some TLC. That'll be a project for tomorrow.
Emmy growls in my mind, and I sense it as well. Wolves. Plural. The feeling is not hostile, but not exactly friendly either. We decide together to call it a night with exploring and go inside to make some food and get some sleep.
I wake to a knock on the door, and when I look at the time on my phone it says 10.30am. I have never slept this long in my life, or this good.
After going inside last night, I made myself mac n cheese with bacon. It was absolutely delicious, and I'm so happy I can actually cook. Poor Alex if he ever has to cook for himself or someone else. He can burn water. I laugh to myself at the thought, but then a tear slides down my cheek. I wish, not for the first time, that we had been close still. I love him, no matter what he did, I love him. He's my twin.
There's a knock again, and I moan as I get out of bed. I throw a hoodie over my PJ, going out to open for whoever is here. I then wonder who would visit me? I live in the middle of the woods, and no one knows I'm here.
I reach the front door, and when I open it Lauren's smiling face meets me.
"Morning sunshine." She says in a cheerful voice, laughing when I yawn. "Did I really wake you?" She asks, suddenly worried. I nod, but wave her apology off.
"I usually never sleep this late, but I must have needed it." I answer, gesturing to her to come inside.
"What are you doing here, by the way?" She laughs again. I guess she has an easy laugh.
"You said I could visit!"
"Oh, yeah. I didn't think you'd be here already." I lead her to the kitchen, telling her to wait while I get changed. Ten minutes later I emerge from the bedroom in high waisted black jeans and a dusted pink shirt tucked in at the front. My hair is in a high ponytail to get it out of the way. I regretted it last night to have it down while I was cleaning, but after a bath and a good night's sleep I feel reborn.
"Uh, you look nice! Love the color of that shirt." I smile, looking down at myself.
"Thank you! I actually bought it at a thrift shop a while back." Lauren's mouth drops open. I raise an eyebrow.
"What?"
"You shopped at a thrift shop?"
"Yeah, all the time. It's a good way to save money, and get fancy things like this cheap." She shakes her head. She has probably never been to such a place. Her attire screams designer - even her nails are done professionally. I open the fridge to get some food for myself, and am about to offer Lauren some as well, when she gets to her feet.
"Come on, we're going out to get some lunch and then shop around. I know the perfect place."
"Uhm, Lauren, I really like you. You are a volcano of happiness and seems like a genuinely nice person, but I don't have the funds for the kind of shops you go to. Or cafe's for that matter. Sorry." I turn away from her, not wanting the rejection up front. It always hurts. No matter how many times people do it, it still hurts like daggers to my heart. I so desperately want to have a friend, a real friend, but I know that will never happen. I'm enjoying my freedom, knowing it will be on borrowed time. Alpha is a crafty man, he'll surely find me and drag me back. Unless he actually doesn't care. Which is a longshot with his insanity, and how vane he is.
"Who said you were paying for yourself?" She says behind me, and hope blossoms in my stomach, although my brain keeps telling me there's going to be a catch. I feel a hand on my shoulder, and then Lauren turns me around. I look at the floor, not able to meet her eyes. I thought I was getting better, but this behavior lies deep inside me. It has been drilled into me; never look a superior in the eyes. Never give yourself hope. Nothing gets better. You are nothing. You are low, the lowest of the low.
"Isabella, please look at me." Lauren says softly, putting a finger under my chin. I do as she says, but the doubt in my eyes must have given me away. "What happened to you?" I shake my head.
"That's a long sad story that I would rather not go into right now." I answer softly. Lauren hugs me, a feeling so unfamiliar to me that I freeze for a second before returning the hug.
"Well, I'm your friend - we can be best friends! I don't have that many to be honest. Much of the women in my pack are either dumb as a brick, or just wanting to be friends with me to get to my brothers." She lets me go with a small insecure smile I'm not used to seeing on the face of an Alpha's daughter. She's so far up the hierarchy she could care less if people are being fake kind to her, but here she is - hugging a nobody like me and being honest. Because she is honest. I don't know how I know, but there's something around her, a light of sorts, and it's bright white which tells me she's not lying.
"I had friends, but they all turned their backs on me when I was ten." I say, the memories flowing through my mind. I blink to get them to go away, and Emerald purrs in my head - soothing me.
"Come on, bestie. Let's go!"
"Where are we going?" I ask, suspicious.
"I'm going to show you the pack lands, and then we are getting lunch at my favorite little pack cafe. When you see it you'll want to join in a heartbeat." He takes my hand and drags me towards the door. I laugh as I grab my bag, coat and keys.
"I'll follow you." I start to say, but Lauren shakes her head.
"I'm driving, and you'll have no opportunity to regret it." The disdain in my eyes made her laugh again.
We set off in her sleek black sports car. I've never understood what you want with a car like this? It is small and not at all spacey, and you can't have anything in the small almost non existing trunk. Lauren takes off down the dirt road, and soon we are on our way through town to the other side.
"So, what is your pack called?"
"The Jewel Pack, of course. My great grandfather founded the town and the pack. He found jewels in the ground and lake, and then decided to name both town and pack after that. Not the most fancy name or anything, but it's home." Home. I had a home once. A happy, loving and nice home. The pack was my home, until that frightful day. I close my eyes and take a deep breath. Nope, I'm not allowing it to take any space in my mind.
After a good 40 minute drive we turn off the mainroad and down a paved wood road. Forest surrounds us, as it does most of the terrain in this part of the country. Back home it's a rarity, but The Green Forest pack was lucky when they needed pack lands to find the one place with thick and old forest to settle.
"Here we are." Lauren says in a happy voice as we park in front of a mansion of a pack house. I thought the house in my old pack was grand, my oh my was I wrong. Emerald laughs at my small country girl thoughts. Stupid wolf.
"This is something else." I say, and Lauren looks at me strangely.
"It's just a normal pack house."
"This is a mansion compared to what I come from."
"Where do you come from?" She asks too eagerly. I shake my head without looking at her.
"Nope, not going there. Sorry."
"Meh, I tried, didn't I?" She says, taking my hand and going inside the pack house.
I stop dead in my tracks inside. This place is huge! How do they have the funds to.. Wait a minute. She said the Jewel Pack. Ah!
"Uhm, Lauren, a question?"
"Uh huh?" She looks at me while still dragging my hip with her.
"Your brother, the Alpha, what's his name?"
"My name is Alpha Elijah Jackson." A deep alluring voice answers from behind us, and Lauren turns with a squeal and leaps from the stairs we were accenting. I turn more slowly, the scent from the guy behind me entering my nostrils. Emerald howls in joy, and when I'm fully turned we lock eyes. His eyes are topaz with specs of green, and his mouth is full with a smirk lurking in the corner.
'Mate, mate, mate.' Emerald squeals, and I'm about to take a step towards him when a young woman walks in behind him.
"Babe, what's going on?" She asks and my heart shatters into a million pieces. He already has a girlfriend, or maybe she's his chosen mate. Either way, I'm once again being rejected. Alpha Elijah freezes when the unfamiliar woman touches his arms, his eyes still locked on mine.
Time seems to stand still, but my mind is racing a mile a minute. This can't be happening. Why is this happening? What have I done to the universe to have it be so cruel to me?
"Nice to meet you Alpha Jackson, now if you will excuse me." I keep my head held high, Lauren looking utterly confused between us and then I see understanding dawn in her eyes.
"WHAT HAPPENED ELI?!" She screams when I'm out the door. Before I know it I'm running to the trees. I don't know these woods, but somehow I'll find my way home.
Behind me I can hear someone chase me, and I run faster to reach the treeline before they can catch me. As I do a loud growl rips through the air, and I make the mistake of looking behind me. It's Alpha Jackson. I come to an abrupt stop, figuring he wants to get the rejection part over and done with.
'Are we moving again?' Emerald asks, worried and sad. She's not asking me to not reject or accept a rejection, she's worried about moving again.
'No! We'll just keep out of his way. He can't force us to move.' She sighs.
"Where are you going?" Alpha asks, clearly annoyed about something. Probably me making him chase me to be free.
"Are you serious?" I ask incredulously, and he nods. I put my hands on my hips and stare at him.
"You are serious?! What is wrong with you? I'm running because my so-called mate has someone else, and he doesn't even deny it. I ran because I can't handle another messed up, idiot, self-centred and entitled Alpha to stomp on my heart. If you want to reject me, fine! But don't you dare to come running after me and ask ME why I AM running."
"Elijah."
"What?!"
"Elijah. Not Alpha Jackson. It's just Elijah to you, darling." I raise an eyebrow. It's official; he's completely disillusioned.
"I'm NOT your darling!" With that I turn around and run into the forest. I shift into Emerald, not caring about my clothes. I don't hear it rip, but that might be because I am absolutely outraged over this moron's audacity. | LEARN_MORE | https://b.ereaderlab.com/ad/ZVJlYWRlci8xMjQ5OTIvMj | 210620715458365 | Red113 | https://facebook.com/61554938783328 | 14 | 1 | 887,872,846,356,610 | 2024-03-17 02:00 | person_profile | eligible | 0 | 0 | NONE | 0 | 0 | 1 | 1 | Learn more | 0 | Red113 | 120206336604300447 | b.ereaderlab.com | NONE | video | https://b.ereaderlab.com/ad/ZVJlYWRlci8xMjQ5OTIvMjAyNDAzMTYxMzUyMTUvcGFnZQ==?adid={{ad.id}} | 2024-03-16 00:54 | https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/433248961_429205486338613_4719310995392261098_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_s60x60&_nc_cat=108&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=XtcgK46CIFMAX8zIipq&_nc_ht=scontent-atl3-1.xx&oh=00_AfBf2uKcm3VgQ7YjhLFkGPQWRyUoQyxRLqPArd1-tfFlaA&oe=65FCD4B3 | person_profile | 0 | Red113 | https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/433317301_1094819158238134_3546513593826608516_n.jpg?_nc_cat=106&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=xaVE8Z2mVu4AX8smlqO&_nc_oc=AQnEmMqQFU4SCgkv_Rw_hRRv8-gGLsuAZM91b9ECaML07cECNDxAZNbmkr_4WOXF-sC01bWn-6RhdSNaJSrtfsrh&_nc_ht=scontent-atl3-1.xx&oh=00_AfAjvpY1IEixeVNddSaUcRMGOLFp8vXZR8NrSkkR8YzPqw&oe=65FD543A | 0 | 3 | Red113 | 0 | 0 | 2024-03-17 02:00 | View Edit Delete | |||||||||||||||||||||
At least this was what the police found about the accident three years ago.
Three years later, when I'm back as the mysterious designer for revenge, the secrets of the accident are about to be revealed.
-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—
"Charlotte Lynn." His call was icy, laced with swirling emotions, and his eyes mirrored his agitation.
It‘s been three years, and Charlotte finally met her ex-husband, who tried to kill their child in her womb to save his mistress.
Ignoring him, Charlotte casually tossed a disposable tissue into a nearby trash bin. She had no desire to engage in a conversation with him. However, as she attempted to pass by, Zachary made a sudden move and grabbed her arm.
Before she knew it, her back was against the cold marble wall, sandwiched by Zachary's imposing frame. Staying calm in contrast to his stormy eyes, she admonished him coolly, "I don't think you should do this, Mr. Sullivan."
Her icy tone hurt Zachary. Unmoved, Zachary tipped her chin up, his voice wavering with urgency. "Don't you have anything to say to me?"
"And what exactly do you think I should say?" she quipped back. Her detached response provoked a sharper look from him.
"Do you know how long I've been searching for you?" Over the past three arduous years, he had been looking for her, dismissing the notion that she had succumbed to the Ruby River's current. Despite relentless efforts, she had remained beyond his reach.
His confession dragged a bitter laugh from her. "Really? Why? You need my bone marrow to save your Annie again?" He didn't miss the scorn in her tone. "Charlotte!" Zachary raised his voice.
Charlotte shot back, "What's gotten into you? You are a murderer, after all! Now let me pass." She couldn't, and wouldn't, forget that Zachary was once willing to trade her and their unborn child to save his mistress, Annie Lopez.
"I gotta say, I'm shocked," she added, her smile tainted with cynicism. "Back then, it was me and our child who were supposed to pay the price for your darling to be as fit as a fiddle today."
Although her voice was deceptively sweet, it couldn't mask the icy glare in her eyes. "Such a pity, though. Still alive and kicking."
Zachary flashed her a cold stare. "Enough!"
"Hey, cool it," Charlotte replied defensively. "I was just talking about myself." Swiftly, she broke free from his grasp.
Seeing the discontent across Zachary's face, Charlotte suspected he wasn't happy about the fact that she was still alive.
A complicated mix of emotions swirled inside Zachary. He didn't know Charlotte could be so defiant. He felt her break away from his hold. Standing firm, she adjusted her gown with an air of nonchalance.
Before more words could be exchanged, Gordon appeared around the corner. He took an anxious glance at the pair, unnerved by their unexpected interaction. He was worried about the potential complications.
"We should head back, Charlotte," Gordon suggested, his gaze never leaving Zachary.
Gordon broke the tension with a warm smile before motioning Charlotte to leave with him. "Mom has been trying to reach you. She cooks you some pies. Let's go back."
Charlotte merely nodded in agreement, pointedly ignoring Zachary. She turned to Gordon, her voice laced with affection. "Hurry, babe. I don't want her to worry."
"Okay."
As the duo turned around, hand-in-hand, Gordon couldn't resist sending a smug smile over his shoulder at Zachary. Resuming their departure, Gordon felt a dark voice trailing them. "Is he your new sugar daddy?"
Both Gordon and Charlotte froze for a second, exchanging perturbed glances.
"No, Mr. Sullivan," Charlotte interrupted, "he's my husband."
"Your husband?"
Zachary's head spun as he struggled to swallow her declaration. His mind swarmed with Charlotte's statement, each repetition intensifying the burning fury in his eyes.
All Charlotte could offer in response was a scoff. Just as she was about to leave, Zachary seized her wrist firmly, nearly crushing it. "Do you understand what you're saying, Charlotte?"
"Did you not hear me, Mr. Sullivan?" Charlotte retorted, barely disguising a smirk.
The exposition had just ended when Leo found Zachary, but Charlotte had already left with Gordon.
"Mr. Sullivan..." Leo's voice wavered with concern.
Over the past three years, the life Zachary led was beyond the comprehension of most, known only to those close to him. Following the Ruby River Bridge catastrophe that consumed the town's gossip chain for a month, no clues linking Charlotte or their unborn baby to the wreckage had surfaced. Since then, Zachary had become more distanced and closed off.
"I need all the details about Charlotte's past three years." Zachary's demand was delivered with a stern undertone. | LEARN_MORE | https://www.yumread.com/share/middle/hvfoe0hlk5pqy | 108358222370640 | LeReader-brilliant Novel | https://facebook.com/61552740297935 | 126 | 1 | 649,342,777,299,260 | 2024-03-17 02:00 | person_profile | eligible | 0 | 0 | NONE | 0 | 1 | 0 | 1 | Learn more | 0 | LeReader-brilliant Novel | 120205333209920669 | yumread.com | NONE | image | In the sweltering summer of July, Leine City was like a humid oven. However, Charlotte Lyn found herself shaking with cold as she stood outside her husband's study room, fiercely gripping her pregnant belly as her breathing hitched.
Inside, her husband, Zachary Sullivan, was having a tense conversation. "Why did her situation become so critical out of the blue?" he asked with a palpable restlessness, nervously smoking his cigarette. "How many more blood transfusions does she need?"
"Three times more," replied Dr. Justin Miller, his voice laced with regret. "But giving her more of Charlotte's blood isn't the answer. A bone marrow transplant is the only way." Taking a pause, he continued, "The tricky bit is, the operation could put your unborn baby's life at risk. If your child survives the procedure, the medication could potentially cause physical or mental handicaps. It could even harm Charlotte's life. I suggest you think it through."
Silence fell over the room. Peering through the slightly opened door, Charlotte observed the man inside. Zachary seemed distant, deep in thought as he put out his cigarette in the ashtray. After a moment's hesitation, he pierced the silence. "Stop the pregnancy. Let's get the surgery scheduled ASAP."
His words cut the silence like a dagger of ice, causing Charlotte to shiver uncontrollably. She was too shocked to hear anything else they said. She retreated to her room, locking herself away from the world outside and heading straight into the bathroom.
In the mirror, Charlotte noticed the multiple needle Marys and bruises on her back. She realized they were caused by rough treatment after her blood was extracted. Fear and shock washed over her, and she broke down.
Zachary was always there, helping her shower ever since she had become pregnant. But having seen the mirror today, she felt betrayed.
Charlotte reflected on Zachary's unusual manners. Her heart ached as she thought, 'Every sweet gesture... they were all lies! No wonder I've been feeling drained recently, spending hours in deep sleep. He was scheming, stealing my blood while I was asleep! His love, his proposal... They were all fake. He just wants my blood. He wants to destroy me!'
Charlotte protectively cradled her belly, gently stroking it. Her baby was due soon, and she promised she would protect it, no matter what.
---
In the evening, Zachary and Charlotte sat at the dinner table. Despite the intensity of his earlier discussion, Zachary seemed distant but somewhat softer. He served Charlotte some soup, mumbling, "Have this soup. It's good for your health."
Since they were married, Zachary had always been the one giving orders, with Charlotte yielding quietly. But today, the unusual gentleness in Zachary's actions felt unsettling, considering what she knew.
"He was ready to trade our baby's life," Charlotte mulled over in her head. The realization hit her hard, causing her to jerk up from the chair, knocking over the soup bowl. The crashing sound echoed in the room, mirroring their fragmented relationship. Zachary's clothes got drenched in the soup.
Surprise flickered across Zachary's face, followed by a flash of anger. But he quickly composed himself, feigning concern. Brushing a hand over Charlotte's forehead, he asked, "Are you okay? Should we call Justin?"
"So he can take more of my blood?" Charlotte challenged, looking straight into Zachary's eyes. An awkward silence filled the room.
In response to her defiance, Zachary's demeanor changed instantly. Seizing her collar, he brought her close, his voice low and threatening. "You know my plans, don't you? Then you should know that you have no option but to comply."
His words revealed the harsh reality. Zachary was the fearsome CEO of the Sullivan Group, one nobody dared to cross.
Tears welled up in Charlotte's eyes as she met Zachary's icy gaze. His hand around her neck made it difficult for her to breathe, the usual smooth face of Zachary now ruthless and indifferent. He let go of her and coolly added, "Since you're aware, just tell me your price."
Leaving Charlotte crumbled against the wall, Zachary indifferently turned away. In her desolate state, a pressing question haunted her: 'Was our marriage ever real?'
"Tell me, who is she?" Charlotte asked, trying to understand the woman he was sacrificing her and their baby for.
Zachary paused but didn't respond. Instead, he announced, "The surgery is in three days. Make a smart decision by then." His message was clear: Charlotte had no choice. With that, he walked away, leaving Charlotte alone, wrecked on the cold, hard floor.
##2.Chapter 2 The Faceoff Between Zachary And Charlotte
Packing up her stuff, Charlotte was ready to leave behind the lavish room she had called home for the last couple of years. The room, a symbol of pure luxury, meticulously maintained and outfitted by Zachary, was now a painful reminder of the shocking truth she had uncovered.
Startled by the sight of a pregnant Charlotte wrestling with her suitcase, the housekeeper, Cora Watson, hurried to her side with a worried look on her face. "Mrs. Sullivan, this is not something you should be doing. You're in the late stages of your pregnancy, you need to be careful. Mr. Sullivan would be worried about the baby!"
Surveying the empty first floor, a sense of bitterness churned within Charlotte. 'Oh yes, Zachary is concerned about our unborn child, so much so that he's ready to trade its life,' she thought sarcastically, blinking back her tears. Managing to clear her throat, she replied with a husky voice, "Tell Zachary that I've drafted the divorce papers and sent them over email. Also, I won't be having the surgery."
With that, she trudged past Cora, dragging the suitcase behind her, and stepping out. The oppressive heat had given way to a raging storm that made her shiver in the cold. As she stood drenched in front of the mansion, she looked up at the sky, gathering the strength to continue. Without taking one last look at what was once her home, she began her journey.
---
Suddenly, a car splashed to a halt, throwing a shower of water from a puddle onto Charlotte. Stepping out of it was Jeff Cooper, one of Zachary's assistants. He walked towards Charlotte and respectfully acknowledged, "Mrs. Sullivan."
Charlotte walked right past him, dismissing his presence. Jeff however, stopped her in her tracks. "Mr. Sullivan has instructed me to escort you to the hospital," he announced, gently relieving her of the suitcase and opening the car door.
It was Zachary's car, a low-key black limo worth millions. While countless women vied for an opportunity to ride this ride, to Charlotte, it felt more like a funeral car, riding her towards inescapable doom.
"I'm not going," she declared. But Jeff curtly replied, "There's been an issue at the hospital. They've had to move the procedure up. Mr. Sullivan wants me to get you there ASAP. Mrs. Sullivan, please understand I'm just following orders."
While he sounded professional, his words were implying a hidden threat. Charlotte gave a bitter smile. She knew that in her current condition, she was no match for a man like Jeff.
On their way to the hospital, Charlotte watched the storm rage outside her window. "If I refused to go along with this, would she die?" she asked, receiving a confirming nod. Softly, she murmured, "Maybe that's what she deserves."
She felt her heart ache at the thought. Risking her life, and the life of her unborn baby, for another woman was the decision Zachary had taken without her consent. Jeff stayed silent at her comment.
As they crossed a bridge, Charlotte, recovering her calm, wondered aloud, "Who is this woman?" The answer, "Annie Lopez," made her blood run cold. The shock painted a desolate image in her mind, and she was lost in silent anguish.
Suddenly, a flicker of rebellion sparked in her eyes. In a swift move, she lunged for the steering wheel, causing Jeff to shout in surprise. Deaf to his protests, she took control and drove the car over the bridge's railing into the turbulent river below.
Instantly submerged in icy water and gasping for breath, Charlotte felt a severe pain in her belly. She thought, 'Does our baby sense the impending danger?' As she sunk further into the depths, the crushing reality of her situation set in.
In no time, the bridge was buzzing with people reacting to the plunge. Amidst the chaotic scene, cars from the police and the Sullivan family rushed to the spot, only to be held up by the jammed traffic at the bridge's end.
##3.Chapter 3 Charlotte's Stunning Comeback
Three years and two months later.
Liene City was holding the International Wedding Exposition. It was the quintessential grand event, featuring top bespoke wedding dress designers from around the world. Luxury cars littered the place, and celebrities floated around the venue.
Stepping onto the red carpet, Charlotte—now going by the name of Georgia Lynn—stole the spotlight. Wearing her confidence like a cloak, she gracefully accepted the arm of her companion, a man named Gordon Wright. His question was simple. "You ready?"
"Of course," her reply was laced with a serene smile. All eyes were on her, spellbound by her beauty. She had built a name for herself as a talented designer, but her real identity remained a mystery.
Georgia Lynn had made quite a stir when her wedding dress design, titled "Destiny," became a global sensation. Her subsequent design, "Elapse," only furthered her stardom. And there she was, basking in the limelight, looking more stunning than ever.
Bathed in the bright lights, Charlotte exuded grace. Her eyes sparkled, mirroring her elegance and grit, gleaming against the big screens adorning Leine City. "It's your turn to go on stage," Gordon whispered.
"I know," she replied, her polite smile never fading. Alone, she stepped on to the stage with an air of grace.
Her first public appearance in three years, and as her identity as Georgia was unveiled, every person in the venue finally put a face to the famous name.
She had such eye-catching features: radiant skin, clear eyes, and a dazzling smile. Donned in a long white strapless gown, each step revealing a tantalizing slit up her leg, she looked ethereal.
The crowd went numb, engrossed in the spectacle of the radiant woman on stage. Whispers flew around as recognition dawned. Georgia Lynn—could it be?
"She resembles Mrs. Sullivan—the one who disappeared after that ghastly car crash three years back, don't you think?"
"She does look like her, but that can't be, right?"
Memories of the horrific accident at Ruby River Bridge began drumming up again. Stories of Zachary's pregnant wife, allegedly swept away in that accident, and her body never found, started surfacing.
"A woman, nine months pregnant in a river at full spate—there's no way she could have survived."
Yet, the woman on stage, introducing herself as Georgia Lynn, was casting a shadow of doubt. And then, the doors swung open.
A figure in a sharp black suit walked in—Zachary Sullivan. His entrance made the room go silent. All eyes were now on him. Zachary seemed unmoved by the crowd, his gaze fixated on the stage. What he witnessed there made him stagger.
Time seemed to stand still as Zachary and Charlotte's eyes met. A flurry of emotions roared between them. She then shifted her gaze towards an unexpected sight—Annie hanging onto Zachary's arm.
She was surprised that Zachary was still with Annie after so many years. 'True love, right? Zachary once abandoned a family for this woman,' she reflected with a hint of sarcasm. 'I was indeed naïve.'
Charlotte dismissed Zachary with an aloof look, treating him like a stranger. Holding the microphone, she announced, "Thank you for your support of 'Destiny'. I assure you that more great designs are to come."
As she handed the microphone back to the MC, applause exploded from the audience. Offstage, Gordon was waiting, extending his hand respectfully. "Congratulations on your success, Georgia," he said warmly.
"I'm glad you were here to see it, Gordon," she replied. Their shared smile had photographers going wild, capturing a perfect moment.
Meanwhile, Zachary was stone-still, trapped in his thoughts. 'Charlotte is alive. She returned.'
Buzz circulated around the venue. "Mrs. Sullivan is alive! And she's an internationally celebrated wedding gown designer named Georgia!"
"But Mr. Sullivan proposed to Ms. Lopez just a month ago. This exhibition was arranged to exhibit her designs!"
Nevertheless, everyone's attention was now on "Destiny," the masterpiece crafted by Charlotte. Her incredible skill and triumphant return captivated the crowd.
"Ms. Lopez must be fuming! Is ex-Mrs. Sullivan here to get back at her?"
Ignoring the whispering, Charlotte and Gordon mingled among the guests, their comfort and confidence apparent to all.
Caught in a whirlwind of feelings, Zachary found himself drawn towards Charlotte, only to be intercepted by Leo Howard, his assistant. "Mr. Sullivan," Leo called quietly, drawing Zachary's attention.
Zachary turned, "It's her, isn't it?" Leo solemnly confirmed, "Yes, it's Mrs. Sullivan."
Regaining his composure, Zachary's gaze found Charlotte again, now deep in conversation with Gordon. His eyes reflected a tumult of feelings.
##4.Chapter 4 Got Anything To Say?
As the exposition was wrapping up, Charlotte came out from the restroom and found the corridor noticeably quiet.
A bit away, Zachary leaned against the marble wall, a cigarette in his hand. His suave figure set against the dark grey backdrop radiated sophistication. His presence stirred Charlotte momentarily. She hadn't expected him to confront her so soon.
"Charlotte Lynn." His call was icy, laced with swirling emotions, and his eyes mirrored his agitation.
Ignoring him, Charlotte casually tossed a disposable tissue into a nearby trash bin. She had no desire to engage in a conversation with him. However, as she attempted to pass by, Zachary made a sudden move and grabbed her arm.
Before she knew it, her back was against the cold marble wall, sandwiched by Zachary's imposing frame. Over the past three arduous years, he had been looking for her, dismissing the notion that she had succumbed to the Ruby River's current. Despite relentless efforts, she had remained beyond his reach.
His confession dragged a bitter laugh from her. "Really? Why? In need of another life-saving favor for Annie?" He didn't miss the scorn in her tone. "Charlotte!" Zachary raised his voice.
Charlotte shot back, "What's gotten into you? You are a murderer, after all! Now let me pass." She couldn't, and wouldn't, forget that Zachary was once willing to trade her and their unborn child to save his mistress, Annie Lopez.
"I gotta say, I'm shocked," she added, her smile tainted with cynicism. Charlotte retorted, barely disguising a smirk.
##5.Chapter 5 Dig Into Charlotte
The exposition had just ended when Leo found Zachary, but Charlotte had already left with Gordon.
"Mr. Sullivan..." Leo's voice wavered with concern.
Over the past three years, the life Zachary led was beyond the comprehension of most, known only to those close to him. Following the Ruby River Bridge catastrophe that consumed the town's gossip chain for a month, no clues linking Charlotte or their unborn baby to the wreckage had surfaced. Since then, Zachary had become more distanced and closed off.
"I need all the details about Charlotte's past three years." Zachary's demand was delivered with a stern undertone.
"Of course," Leo answered promptly, eager to assist.
The name "Georgia Lynn" was no stranger to either Leo or Zachary. The brilliant wedding gown, "Destiny," had sent ripples throughout the fashion world, drawing Zachary's attention too. But none knew that the creative genius behind the exquisite piece was Charlotte, the woman who had disappeared three years ago.
---
Within an hour, Leo assembled most of the available information about Charlotte and Gordon, presenting it to Zachary. A stack of pages covered the past three years of Charlotte's life.
The documents presented a new side of Charlotte. She was previously perceived as insignificant and overly reliant on Zachary. But her recent achievements as a designer, evident by the recognition she received, shattered all those assumptions.
"Gordon Wright? The same guy who leads the Wright Group out of Snowe City?" Zachary queried, his brows knitting together.
"Yes," Leo confirmed.
An icy mask hardened Zachary's face. Charlotte and Gordon's intimate interaction at the conference kept repeating in his mind—a scene that included Charlotte introducing Gordon as her husband. This uncomfortable replay was a stubborn imprint, refusing to disappear.
Seeing Zachary's thunderous expression, Leo felt a cold sweat spreading across his back. "Mr. Wright set up a studio for Mrs. Sullivan in Snowe City and has been supporting her work for the past three years," Leo nervously provided the details he had gathered, "And personally, he's been looking out for her as well."
"Interesting," Zachary retorted sarcastically, with a tinge of jealousy cutting beneath his words.
Turning his attention back to the documents, he inquired, "Any word on Jeff Cooper?" Even the mention of the name Jeff made Leo nervous.
Three years ago, when Annie's health failed suddenly, Leo was tasked with fetching Charlotte. But Jeff interrupted, opting to take Charlotte. Unexpectedly, neither Jeff nor Charlotte made it to the hospital. They both supposedly died in a car crash.
However, after years of searching, Zachary had found no trace of Jeff. This only fueled his steadfast belief that Charlotte was still alive. Jeff's military background meant he could turn a dire situation around. Maybe he had managed to save Charlotte?
"There's still no lead on Jeff. But I'll get on it, right away," Leo assured, mopping his sweating brow. Everyone that knew Zachary was aware of his intense disapproval of betrayal. Leo ruminated, 'Did Jeff betray Mr. Sullivan that day, or did he simply fail? If it was the former, death might have been a kinder fate.'
Flipping through the papers, Zachary's brow furrowed, a disturbing thought surfacing. 'What about the child?'
A tightening grip around his heart accompanied his own silent question. It was vividly clear to him that at the time of her disappearance, Charlotte was heavily pregnant, about to deliver.
'If Charlotte managed to survive the car accident, did the baby survive too?' he dared to wonder.
--------------------------------------------------------
There are limited chapters to put here, click the button below to continue reading 📜<My Ex-Wife's Glamorous Comeback>📜
(It will automatically jump to the book when you open the app) | LEARN_MORE | https://www.yumread.com/share/middle/hvfoe0hlk5pqy | 108358222370640 | LeReader-brilliant Novel | https://facebook.com/61552740297935 | 126 | 1 | 1,131,046,038,026,445 | 2024-03-17 02:00 | person_profile | eligible | 0 | 0 | NONE | 0 | 1 | 0 | 1 | Learn more | 0 | LeReader-brilliant Novel | 120205332328450669 | www.yumread.com | NONE | video | https://www.yumread.com/share/middle/hvfoe0hlk5pqy4da20u4uss4?ad_id={{ad.id}}&sid=120205332127450669&campaign={{campaign.name}}&adgroup={{adset.name}} | 2024-03-17 03:46 | https://scontent-dfw5-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/433130756_1448462939078953_3186937032476596825_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_s60x60&_nc_cat=103&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=AuK1TZVr2rgAX_KSgBW&_nc_ht=scontent-dfw5-1.xx&oh=00_AfAku-vHHpltTqtpTxfIczpNrk_rE7iX-Sd1Q8ryrkLfKw&oe=65FBBDA5 | person_profile | 0 | LeReader-brilliant Novel | https://scontent-dfw5-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/433140132_7747456501940708_2148203070544672844_n.jpg?_nc_cat=102&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=jneblcB72hsAX-CRsc8&_nc_ht=scontent-dfw5-2.xx&oh=00_AfB_CoU_ulO5vfrDw8jLwiLi9C0iLLiorxYBT_BzcNWssA&oe=65FCF282 | 0 | 3 | LeReader-brilliant Novel | 0 | 0 | 2024-03-17 02:00 | View Edit Delete | |||||||||||||||||||||
However, Charlotte Lyn found herself shaking with cold as she stood outside her husband's study room, fiercely gripping her pregnant belly as her breathing hitched.
Inside, her husband, Zachary Sullivan, was having a tense conversation. "Why did her situation become so critical out of the blue?" he asked with a palpable restlessness, nervously smoking his cigarette. "How many more blood transfusions does she need?"
"Three times more," replied Dr. Justin Miller, his voice laced with regret. "But giving her more of Charlotte's blood isn't the answer. A bone marrow transplant is the only way." Taking a pause, he continued, "The tricky bit is, the operation could put your unborn baby's life at risk. If your child survives the procedure, the medication could potentially cause physical or mental handicaps. It could even harm Charlotte's life. I suggest you think it through."
Silence fell over the room. Peering through the slightly opened door, Charlotte observed the man inside. Zachary seemed distant, deep in thought as he put out his cigarette in the ashtray. After a moment's hesitation, he pierced the silence. "Stop the pregnancy. Let's get the surgery scheduled ASAP."
His words cut the silence like a dagger of ice, causing Charlotte to shiver uncontrollably. She was too shocked to hear anything else they said. She retreated to her room, locking herself away from the world outside and heading straight into the bathroom.
In the mirror, Charlotte noticed the multiple needle Marys and bruises on her back. She realized they were caused by rough treatment after her blood was extracted. Fear and shock washed over her, and she broke down.
Zachary was always there, helping her shower ever since she had become pregnant. But having seen the mirror today, she felt betrayed.
Charlotte reflected on Zachary's unusual manners. Her heart ached as she thought, 'Every sweet gesture... they were all lies! No wonder I've been feeling drained recently, spending hours in deep sleep. He was scheming, stealing my blood while I was asleep! His love, his proposal... They were all fake. He just wants my blood. He wants to destroy me!'
Charlotte protectively cradled her belly, gently stroking it. Her baby was due soon, and she promised she would protect it, no matter what.
---
In the evening, Zachary and Charlotte sat at the dinner table. Despite the intensity of his earlier discussion, Zachary seemed distant but somewhat softer. He served Charlotte some soup, mumbling, "Have this soup. It's good for your health."
Since they were married, Zachary had always been the one giving orders, with Charlotte yielding quietly. But today, the unusual gentleness in Zachary's actions felt unsettling, considering what she knew.
"He was ready to trade our baby's life," Charlotte mulled over in her head. The realization hit her hard, causing her to jerk up from the chair, knocking over the soup bowl. The crashing sound echoed in the room, mirroring their fragmented relationship. Zachary's clothes got drenched in the soup.
Surprise flickered across Zachary's face, followed by a flash of anger. But he quickly composed himself, feigning concern. Brushing a hand over Charlotte's forehead, he asked, "Are you okay? Should we call Justin?"
"So he can take more of my blood?" Charlotte challenged, looking straight into Zachary's eyes. An awkward silence filled the room.
In response to her defiance, Zachary's demeanor changed instantly. Seizing her collar, he brought her close, his voice low and threatening. "You know my plans, don't you? Then you should know that you have no option but to comply."
His words revealed the harsh reality. Zachary was the fearsome CEO of the Sullivan Group, one nobody dared to cross.
Tears welled up in Charlotte's eyes as she met Zachary's icy gaze. His hand around her neck made it difficult for her to breathe, the usual smooth face of Zachary now ruthless and indifferent. He let go of her and coolly added, "Since you're aware, just tell me your price."
Leaving Charlotte crumbled against the wall, Zachary indifferently turned away. In her desolate state, a pressing question haunted her: 'Was our marriage ever real?'
"Tell me, who is she?" Charlotte asked, trying to understand the woman he was sacrificing her and their baby for.
Zachary paused but didn't respond. Instead, he announced, "The surgery is in three days. Make a smart decision by then." His message was clear: Charlotte had no choice. With that, he walked away, leaving Charlotte alone, wrecked on the cold, hard floor.
##2.Chapter 2 The Faceoff Between Zachary And Charlotte
Packing up her stuff, Charlotte was ready to leave behind the lavish room she had called home for the last couple of years. The room, a symbol of pure luxury, meticulously maintained and outfitted by Zachary, was now a painful reminder of the shocking truth she had uncovered.
Startled by the sight of a pregnant Charlotte wrestling with her suitcase, the housekeeper, Cora Watson, hurried to her side with a worried look on her face. "Mrs. Sullivan, this is not something you should be doing. You're in the late stages of your pregnancy, you need to be careful. Mr. Sullivan would be worried about the baby!"
Surveying the empty first floor, a sense of bitterness churned within Charlotte. 'Oh yes, Zachary is concerned about our unborn child, so much so that he's ready to trade its life,' she thought sarcastically, blinking back her tears. Managing to clear her throat, she replied with a husky voice, "Tell Zachary that I've drafted the divorce papers and sent them over email. Also, I won't be having the surgery."
With that, she trudged past Cora, dragging the suitcase behind her, and stepping out. The oppressive heat had given way to a raging storm that made her shiver in the cold. As she stood drenched in front of the mansion, she looked up at the sky, gathering the strength to continue. Without taking one last look at what was once her home, she began her journey.
---
Suddenly, a car splashed to a halt, throwing a shower of water from a puddle onto Charlotte. Stepping out of it was Jeff Cooper, one of Zachary's assistants. He walked towards Charlotte and respectfully acknowledged, "Mrs. Sullivan."
Charlotte walked right past him, dismissing his presence. Jeff however, stopped her in her tracks. "Mr. Sullivan has instructed me to escort you to the hospital," he announced, gently relieving her of the suitcase and opening the car door.
It was Zachary's car, a low-key black limo worth millions. While countless women vied for an opportunity to ride this ride, to Charlotte, it felt more like a funeral car, riding her towards inescapable doom.
"I'm not going," she declared. But Jeff curtly replied, "There's been an issue at the hospital. They've had to move the procedure up. Mr. Sullivan wants me to get you there ASAP. Mrs. Sullivan, please understand I'm just following orders."
While he sounded professional, his words were implying a hidden threat. Charlotte gave a bitter smile. She knew that in her current condition, she was no match for a man like Jeff.
On their way to the hospital, Charlotte watched the storm rage outside her window. "If I refused to go along with this, would she die?" she asked, receiving a confirming nod. Softly, she murmured, "Maybe that's what she deserves."
She felt her heart ache at the thought. Risking her life, and the life of her unborn baby, for another woman was the decision Zachary had taken without her consent. Jeff stayed silent at her comment.
As they crossed a bridge, Charlotte, recovering her calm, wondered aloud, "Who is this woman?" The answer, "Annie Lopez," made her blood run cold. The shock painted a desolate image in her mind, and she was lost in silent anguish.
Suddenly, a flicker of rebellion sparked in her eyes. In a swift move, she lunged for the steering wheel, causing Jeff to shout in surprise. Deaf to his protests, she took control and drove the car over the bridge's railing into the turbulent river below.
Instantly submerged in icy water and gasping for breath, Charlotte felt a severe pain in her belly. She thought, 'Does our baby sense the impending danger?' As she sunk further into the depths, the crushing reality of her situation set in.
In no time, the bridge was buzzing with people reacting to the plunge. Amidst the chaotic scene, cars from the police and the Sullivan family rushed to the spot, only to be held up by the jammed traffic at the bridge's end.
##3.Chapter 3 Charlotte's Stunning Comeback
Three years and two months later.
Liene City was holding the International Wedding Exposition. It was the quintessential grand event, featuring top bespoke wedding dress designers from around the world. Luxury cars littered the place, and celebrities floated around the venue.
Stepping onto the red carpet, Charlotte—now going by the name of Georgia Lynn—stole the spotlight. Wearing her confidence like a cloak, she gracefully accepted the arm of her companion, a man named Gordon Wright. His question was simple. "You ready?"
"Of course," her reply was laced with a serene smile. All eyes were on her, spellbound by her beauty. She had built a name for herself as a talented designer, but her real identity remained a mystery.
Georgia Lynn had made quite a stir when her wedding dress design, titled "Destiny," became a global sensation. Her subsequent design, "Elapse," only furthered her stardom. And there she was, basking in the limelight, looking more stunning than ever.
Bathed in the bright lights, Charlotte exuded grace. Her eyes sparkled, mirroring her elegance and grit, gleaming against the big screens adorning Leine City. "It's your turn to go on stage," Gordon whispered.
"I know," she replied, her polite smile never fading. Alone, she stepped on to the stage with an air of grace.
Her first public appearance in three years, and as her identity as Georgia was unveiled, every person in the venue finally put a face to the famous name.
She had such eye-catching features: radiant skin, clear eyes, and a dazzling smile. Donned in a long white strapless gown, each step revealing a tantalizing slit up her leg, she looked ethereal.
The crowd went numb, engrossed in the spectacle of the radiant woman on stage. Whispers flew around as recognition dawned. Georgia Lynn—could it be?
"She resembles Mrs. Sullivan—the one who disappeared after that ghastly car crash three years back, don't you think?"
"She does look like her, but that can't be, right?"
Memories of the horrific accident at Ruby River Bridge began drumming up again. Stories of Zachary's pregnant wife, allegedly swept away in that accident, and her body never found, started surfacing.
"A woman, nine months pregnant in a river at full spate—there's no way she could have survived."
Yet, the woman on stage, introducing herself as Georgia Lynn, was casting a shadow of doubt. And then, the doors swung open.
A figure in a sharp black suit walked in—Zachary Sullivan. His entrance made the room go silent. All eyes were now on him. Zachary seemed unmoved by the crowd, his gaze fixated on the stage. What he witnessed there made him stagger.
Time seemed to stand still as Zachary and Charlotte's eyes met. A flurry of emotions roared between them. She then shifted her gaze towards an unexpected sight—Annie hanging onto Zachary's arm.
She was surprised that Zachary was still with Annie after so many years. 'True love, right? Zachary once abandoned a family for this woman,' she reflected with a hint of sarcasm. 'I was indeed naïve.'
Charlotte dismissed Zachary with an aloof look, treating him like a stranger. Holding the microphone, she announced, "Thank you for your support of 'Destiny'. I assure you that more great designs are to come."
As she handed the microphone back to the MC, applause exploded from the audience. Offstage, Gordon was waiting, extending his hand respectfully. "Congratulations on your success, Georgia," he said warmly.
"I'm glad you were here to see it, Gordon," she replied. Their shared smile had photographers going wild, capturing a perfect moment.
Meanwhile, Zachary was stone-still, trapped in his thoughts. 'Charlotte is alive. She returned.'
Buzz circulated around the venue. "Mrs. Sullivan is alive! And she's an internationally celebrated wedding gown designer named Georgia!"
"But Mr. Sullivan proposed to Ms. Lopez just a month ago. This exhibition was arranged to exhibit her designs!"
Nevertheless, everyone's attention was now on "Destiny," the masterpiece crafted by Charlotte. Her incredible skill and triumphant return captivated the crowd.
"Ms. Lopez must be fuming! Is ex-Mrs. Sullivan here to get back at her?"
Ignoring the whispering, Charlotte and Gordon mingled among the guests, their comfort and confidence apparent to all.
Caught in a whirlwind of feelings, Zachary found himself drawn towards Charlotte, only to be intercepted by Leo Howard, his assistant. "Mr. Sullivan," Leo called quietly, drawing Zachary's attention.
Zachary turned, "It's her, isn't it?" Leo solemnly confirmed, "Yes, it's Mrs. Sullivan."
Regaining his composure, Zachary's gaze found Charlotte again, now deep in conversation with Gordon. His eyes reflected a tumult of feelings.
##4.Chapter 4 Got Anything To Say?
As the exposition was wrapping up, Charlotte came out from the restroom and found the corridor noticeably quiet.
A bit away, Zachary leaned against the marble wall, a cigarette in his hand. His suave figure set against the dark grey backdrop radiated sophistication. His presence stirred Charlotte momentarily. She hadn't expected him to confront her so soon.
"Charlotte Lynn." His call was icy, laced with swirling emotions, and his eyes mirrored his agitation.
Ignoring him, Charlotte casually tossed a disposable tissue into a nearby trash bin. She had no desire to engage in a conversation with him. However, as she attempted to pass by, Zachary made a sudden move and grabbed her arm.
Before she knew it, her back was against the cold marble wall, sandwiched by Zachary's imposing frame. Staying calm in contrast to his stormy eyes, she admonished him coolly, "I don't think you should do this, Mr. Sullivan."
Her icy tone hurt Zachary. Unmoved, Zachary tipped her chin up, his voice wavering with urgency. "Don't you have anything to say to me?"
"And what exactly do you think I should say?" she quipped back. Her detached response provoked a sharper look from him.
"Do you know how long I've been searching for you?" Over the past three arduous years, he had been looking for her, dismissing the notion that she had succumbed to the Ruby River's current. Despite relentless efforts, she had remained beyond his reach.
His confession dragged a bitter laugh from her. "Really? Why? In need of another life-saving favor for Annie?" He didn't miss the scorn in her tone. "Charlotte!" Zachary raised his voice.
Charlotte shot back, "What's gotten into you? You are a murderer, after all! Now let me pass." She couldn't, and wouldn't, forget that Zachary was once willing to trade her and their unborn child to save his mistress, Annie Lopez.
"I gotta say, I'm shocked," she added, her smile tainted with cynicism. "Back then, it was me and our child who were supposed to pay the price for your darling to be as fit as a fiddle today."
Although her voice was deceptively sweet, it couldn't mask the icy glare in her eyes. "Such a pity, though. Still alive and kicking."
Zachary flashed her a cold stare. "Enough!"
"Hey, cool it," Charlotte replied defensively. "I was just talking about myself." Swiftly, she broke free from his grasp.
Seeing the discontent across Zachary's face, Charlotte suspected he wasn't happy about the fact that she was still alive.
A complicated mix of emotions swirled inside Zachary. He didn't know Charlotte could be so defiant. He felt her break away from his hold. Standing firm, she adjusted her gown with an air of nonchalance.
Before more words could be exchanged, Gordon appeared around the corner. He took an anxious glance at the pair, unnerved by their unexpected interaction. He was worried about the potential complications.
"We should head back, Charlotte," Gordon suggested, his gaze never leaving Zachary.
Gordon broke the tension with a warm smile before motioning Charlotte to leave with him. "Mom has been trying to reach you. She cooks you some pies. Let's go back."
Charlotte merely nodded in agreement, pointedly ignoring Zachary. She turned to Gordon, her voice laced with affection. "Hurry, babe. I don't want her to worry."
"Okay."
As the duo turned around, hand-in-hand, Gordon couldn't resist sending a smug smile over his shoulder at Zachary. Resuming their departure, Gordon felt a dark voice trailing them. "Is he your new sugar daddy?"
Both Gordon and Charlotte froze for a second, exchanging perturbed glances.
"No, Mr. Sullivan," Charlotte interrupted, "he's my husband."
"Your husband?"
Zachary's head spun as he struggled to swallow her declaration. His mind swarmed with Charlotte's statement, each repetition intensifying the burning fury in his eyes.
All Charlotte could offer in response was a scoff. Just as she was about to leave, Zachary seized her wrist firmly, nearly crushing it. "Do you understand what you're saying, Charlotte?"
"Did you not hear me, Mr. Sullivan?" Charlotte retorted, barely disguising a smirk.
##5.Chapter 5 Dig Into Charlotte
The exposition had just ended when Leo found Zachary, but Charlotte had already left with Gordon.
"Mr. Sullivan..." Leo's voice wavered with concern.
Over the past three years, the life Zachary led was beyond the comprehension of most, known only to those close to him. Following the Ruby River Bridge catastrophe that consumed the town's gossip chain for a month, no clues linking Charlotte or their unborn baby to the wreckage had surfaced. Since then, Zachary had become more distanced and closed off.
"I need all the details about Charlotte's past three years." Zachary's demand was delivered with a stern undertone.
"Of course," Leo answered promptly, eager to assist.
The name "Georgia Lynn" was no stranger to either Leo or Zachary. The brilliant wedding gown, "Destiny," had sent ripples throughout the fashion world, drawing Zachary's attention too. But none knew that the creative genius behind the exquisite piece was Charlotte, the woman who had disappeared three years ago.
---
Within an hour, Leo assembled most of the available information about Charlotte and Gordon, presenting it to Zachary. A stack of pages covered the past three years of Charlotte's life.
The documents presented a new side of Charlotte. She was previously perceived as insignificant and overly reliant on Zachary. But her recent achievements as a designer, evident by the recognition she received, shattered all those assumptions.
"Gordon Wright? The same guy who leads the Wright Group out of Snowe City?" Zachary queried, his brows knitting together.
"Yes," Leo confirmed.
An icy mask hardened Zachary's face. Charlotte and Gordon's intimate interaction at the conference kept repeating in his mind—a scene that included Charlotte introducing Gordon as her husband. This uncomfortable replay was a stubborn imprint, refusing to disappear.
Seeing Zachary's thunderous expression, Leo felt a cold sweat spreading across his back. "Mr. Wright set up a studio for Mrs. Sullivan in Snowe City and has been supporting her work for the past three years," Leo nervously provided the details he had gathered, "And personally, he's been looking out for her as well."
"Interesting," Zachary retorted sarcastically, with a tinge of jealousy cutting beneath his words.
Turning his attention back to the documents, he inquired, "Any word on Jeff Cooper?" Even the mention of the name Jeff made Leo nervous.
Three years ago, when Annie's health failed suddenly, Leo was tasked with fetching Charlotte. But Jeff interrupted, opting to take Charlotte. Unexpectedly, neither Jeff nor Charlotte made it to the hospital. They both supposedly died in a car crash.
However, after years of searching, Zachary had found no trace of Jeff. This only fueled his steadfast belief that Charlotte was still alive. Jeff's military background meant he could turn a dire situation around. Maybe he had managed to save Charlotte?
"There's still no lead on Jeff. But I'll get on it, right away," Leo assured, mopping his sweating brow. Everyone that knew Zachary was aware of his intense disapproval of betrayal. Leo ruminated, 'Did Jeff betray Mr. Sullivan that day, or did he simply fail? If it was the former, death might have been a kinder fate.'
Flipping through the papers, Zachary's brow furrowed, a disturbing thought surfacing. 'What about the child?'
A tightening grip around his heart accompanied his own silent question. It was vividly clear to him that at the time of her disappearance, Charlotte was heavily pregnant, about to deliver.
'If Charlotte managed to survive the car accident, did the baby survive too?' he dared to wonder.
--------------------------------------------------------
There are limited chapters to put here, click the button below to continue reading 📜<My Ex-Wife's Glamorous Comeback>📜
(It will automatically jump to the book when you open the app) | LEARN_MORE | https://www.yumread.com/share/middle/hvfoe0hlk5pqy | 108358222370640 | LeReader-brilliant Novel | https://facebook.com/61552740297935 | 126 | 1 | 731,580,392,490,773 | 2024-03-17 02:00 | person_profile | eligible | 0 | 0 | NONE | 0 | 1 | 0 | 1 | Learn more | 0 | LeReader-brilliant Novel | 120205332137770669 | www.yumread.com | NONE | video | https://www.yumread.com/share/middle/hvfoe0hlk5pqy4da20u4uss4?ad_id={{ad.id}}&sid=120205332127450669&campaign={{campaign.name}}&adgroup={{adset.name}} | 2024-03-17 03:43 | https://scontent-ord5-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/431447169_800371518621182_1478455528593210479_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_s60x60&_nc_cat=102&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=DyyEAjkE5NMAX92Lgji&_nc_ht=scontent-ord5-2.xx&oh=00_AfBGEPphgeiTTsdrAm_VP1OC4aGy0JFUc4d0PeJ0QvbSpg&oe=65FD09F7 | person_profile | 0 | LeReader-brilliant Novel | https://scontent-ord5-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/431493027_331535646612221_9003658976105148950_n.jpg?_nc_cat=103&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=DPBimh6ESLYAX_IrG3J&_nc_ht=scontent-ord5-2.xx&oh=00_AfAbdbQC963O_TAIWZ3wdlhi_HQ-xXnJSI1_-NneS6gnog&oe=65FC6B37 | 0 | 3 | LeReader-brilliant Novel | 0 | 0 | 2024-03-17 02:00 | View Edit Delete |
