Yes 2024-05-08 18:44 active 760 0 353493103972413 Enjoy Romance🥰Read More 👉 She signed the divorce papers and left without taking her phone. He checked her phone and got floored at the message: Please come tomorrow for another prenatal care checkup!
=============

Chapter 1 Ex-girlfriend Returns

Raegan Hayes was a little absent-minded at the moment.

All she could think of since this afternoon was the doctor's words. "Congratulations! You are going to be a mom."

Suddenly, Mitchel Dixon pinched her arm. His low voice came the next second. "Come back to earth. What are you thinking about?"

Mitchel was her husband. They had been married secretly for two years. He was her superior at work, the president of the Dixon Group.

Everything had happened so fast. She was newly employed in the company when they unexpectedly got married.

At that time, Mitchel's grandfather fell seriously ill. It was then he proposed a fake marriage just to fulfill his grandfather's dying wish.

They signed a prenup, agreeing to hide their marriage from the public. Their union could be terminated at any time.

It was an unconventional thing to do. However, Raegan only considered herself lucky at that time.

Never in a million years did she think she would ever get married to the man she had a crush on for eight years. She delightfully agreed.

After their marriage, Mitchel was very busy. He spent most of his time working.

Raegan wished she could spend more time with him at home. However, she was rest assured because there hadn't been any rumors or scandals about him with women in the past two years.

Except for his mild indifference, Mitchel was a perfect husband.

Raegan had mixed feelings as she stared at the medical report.

In the end, she decided to tell Mitchel this news.

She also wanted to tell him that she hadn't learned about him for the first time two years ago and that she had been crushing on him for many years before then.

Just then, Mitchel’s phone rang. He went to the balcony and answered the phone.

Raegan checked the time and found that it was already midnight.

She felt a little uneasy. Who would call Mitchel at this hour?

Mitchel spent a few minutes on the balcony. Thereafter, he returned and changed into formal attire. His handsome face which had a clear outline made him look dignified.

He was something to see now.

"Don't wait up for me. Good night," he said finally.

What? He was on his way out? At this hour?

Raegan's grip on the report tightened as she stared at him in disappointment. Unconsciously, she withdrew slightly. After thinking for a while, she blurted out, "It's already so late."

Mitchel's fingers froze on his tie. With a faint smile, he pinched her earlobe and said, "Be good, okay? There's something I have to do. Don't wait up."

With that, he headed for the door.

"Mitchel."

Raegan quickly ran and caught up with him.

Mitchel turned around and looked at her seriously.

"What's the matter?"

There was a tinge of coldness to his voice. An icy cloud hung over them as they stared at each other.

A little distressed, Raegan asked in a low voice, "I would like to visit my grandma tomorrow. Can you accompany me there?"

Her grandmother always wanted to see her. As a result, Raegan wanted to take Mitchel there to assure her grandma they were happy.

"Let's talk about it tomorrow, okay?" Without agreeing or declining, Mitchel left in a hurry.

Several thoughts were threading Raegan's mind. She couldn't sleep a wink.

After tossing and turning for a long time, she went to the kitchen and made herself a warm glass of milk.

A few notifications from some online blogs came into her phone.

However, she wasn't interested in them. She was about to swipe them away when one of them caught her attention. The familiar name made her click on it.

The news read, "Famous designer, Lauren Murray was spotted at the airport with her mysterious boyfriend earlier today."

Lauren was wearing a bucket hat. The man's figure was vague, but the outline of his body was enough to show that he was dashing.

Raegan zoomed in on the picture. The next second, her heart dropped.

Mitchel was the man in the picture!

So, he canceled the afternoon meeting just to go pick up his ex-girlfriend from the airport?

This realization settled like a boulder in Raegan's gut, rendering her flustered.

Her hands trembled. Subconsciously, she dialed Mitchel's number.

The dial tone brought her back to her senses. Just as she was about to hang up, the line connected, and a voice came from the other end.

"Hello!"

It was a particularly gentle woman's voice.

Raegan froze for a second and then threw the phone away.

She suddenly felt sick in her stomach. Covering her mouth, she ran into the bathroom and threw up in the toilet bowl.

The next morning, Raegan went to work on time.

Mitchel had tried to get her to stop working after they got married. Stubbornly, she insisted on making her own money.

Mitchel didn't kick against her decision, but he asked her to work as his assistant, helping him with the daily chores.

The head assistant, Matteo Jenkins was left to take care of the major affairs Mitchel had.

Matteo was the only Dixon Group employee who knew about their marriage.

Since inception, only male assistants were hired for the president's office. Reagan was the first and only female. Her employment broke the protocol. As a result, other workers couldn't help but wonder if she was involved with Mitchel.

It took a while before they realized that Mitchel never gave Raegan special treatment. Strangely, this made them despise her even more.

After all, no one would last long in anything while taking advantage of their looks.

At this time, one of Raegan's colleagues handed her a document and ordered her to take it to Mitchel's office.

Mitchel didn't return home last night. Raegan was so worried that she didn't sleep at all.

All she kept thinking about was the woman who answered his phone when she called. What was her relationship with Mitchel?

Raegan already knew the answer to that, but she was still in denial.

It was difficult for her to come to terms with that fact.

Raegan tried to remain calm now. She reasoned that no matter what happened, she deserved a result that would be rewarding for all the years she spent loving Mitchel. This couldn't be all for nothing, right?

She pressed the elevator button calmly and went up to the president's office. Before she walked out of the elevator, she smoothed her hair to make sure she looked good.

She had arrived at the office, only to see that the door was ajar. A man's voice came. She halted instantly.

"Come on, man! Do you have any feelings for Raegan or not?"

The voice belonged to Luis Stevens, a childhood friend of Mitchel's.

"What do you mean exactly?" Mitchel asked in a cold voice.

"You know exactly what I mean!" Luis clicked his tongue impatiently and added, "I think Raegan is a good girl. Isn't she your type?"

"Do you want me to hand her over to you?" Mitchel asked carelessly.

"You know what, forget it!"

The scornful laughter of Luis sounded particularly harsh in Raegan's ears.

They were talking about her as if she were an object.

Raegan took a deep breath and tightened her grip on the document.

Soon, Luis's voice was heard again.

"By the way, I saw the gossip news about Lauren's mysterious boyfriend this morning. That was you, right?"

"Yes."

"Well, well, well! That woman still has you wrapped around her little finger. You always want to please her."

Luis sighed and continued to tease Mitchel. "As the old saying goes, absence makes the heart grow fonder. Tell me, did you two..."

Their conversation was like a thunder exploding over Raegan's head.

Her face turned pale and her body was as cold as ice.

The woman was indeed Lauren!

Absence made the heart grow fonder!

Every word drove a knife into her heart.

Several whispering voices filled her head at this time. She suddenly felt light-headed. Her vision became blurry.

She held the wall and took a step backward. Suddenly, the door was opened from inside.

"Raegan?"

Chapter 2 One-sided Love

Luis was the one who opened the door. It appeared he was on his way out.

Raegan balled her hands, turned to him, and nodded. "Hey, Mr. Stevens!"

Without waiting for him to respond to her greeting, she walked past him and entered the office with the document.

Mitchel was seated behind a large luxurious desk. In an expensive suit and matching tie, he looked particularly handsome.

Raegan noticed it wasn't the same suit he had on when he left home last night. How did he get changed?

With her eyes lowered, she swallowed that question and said instead, "Mr. Dixon, this is from the Marketing Department. Please sign it."

Mitchel was expressionless as he signed the document at a glance.

Raegan walked out the door as soon as he handed the document back to her. Luis was still standing at the threshold.

It wasn't until she went out of sight that Luis turned to Mitchel and said in a hushed tone, "Do you think she heard us?"

Mitchel's appealing eyes were expressionless at the moment. Obviously, he wasn't paying attention to what Luis was saying.

To Mitchel, Raegan had always been docile and never felt jealous of anyone.

Her strict obedience was all Mitchel demanded from her in exchange for treating her well.

In the elevator.

Raegan held her breath just to hold back her tears. Unfortunately, it didn't work.

She had thought two years would be enough for Mitchel to realize how much she loved him and reciprocate her love.

Now, it turned out that was just a pipe dream.

She realized she would always play second fiddle to Lauren, Mitchel's true love.

Reagan wiped her tears when the elevator halted. Save for her pale face, she looked normal when the doors opened.

She dragged herself to the break room, intending to make herself a cup of tea.

Several employees were chatting inside.

"Guys, have you heard? Lauren Murray is back."

"And who is that?"

"Oh, my! You don't know her? Lauren is the heiress of the Murray Group as well as a world-class designer. Most importantly, she's the only girlfriend Mr. Dixon has ever shown off in public. She's his first love!"

"Why is her return such a big deal? Isn't it rumored that there is something between Mr. Dixon and Raegan?"

"Raegan? She's nothing to Mr. Dixon. Mr. Dixon never admitted that he was dating her. And that is no surprise to me. After all, look at her. She's not even that beautiful. Yet, she behaves as if she's already Mrs. Dixon. What a fool!"

Standing at the door, Raegan smiled with self-mockery as she listened to them. It turned out everyone else saw the truth except her.

The love was one-sided.

"Ha-ha, have you finally woken up from your wild dream, Raegan?"

A voice of mockery suddenly came from behind. Raegan turned around to see Tessa Lloyd, Mitchel's cousin, who had always despised her.

Tessa must have also heard the employees gossiping.

The last thing Raegan wanted to do now was argue with Tessa in the company. She turned to leave, but Tessa blocked her way.

With a cup of coffee in her hand, Tessa uttered sarcastically, "Lauren is back now. Do you think Mitchel will still give you any attention?"

Raegan said nothing to that.

Seconds later, Tessa continued the ridicule. "Maybe it’s time for you to seek out another man, you pathetic fool."

Raegan clenched her fists and said coldly, "Ms. Lloyd, if you are interested in that kind of thing, feel free to pursue it yourself."

"You..."

Raegan's retort made Tessa's face change.

The next second, Tessa raised her hand and emptied the cup of coffee on Raegan.

Raegan didn't think for a second that Tessa would do something so crazy. She held up her arms just to block the liquid from her face. In no time, the coffee drenched her clothes.

Raegan frowned. "What did you do that for? Are you out of your mind?"

It was lunch break and many employees were free to watch the drama. Tessa was even more complacent when she saw growing onlookers.

She put on a mean-girl look as she said, "What makes you so smug every day, huh? Do you seriously think that others don't know you are just an orphan? The nerve of..."

Tessa was silenced by Raegan’s shove.

Her jaw dropped to the floor. She had never expected that Raegan, who was so quiet and timid, would shove her.

Tessa stuttered, "You... You pushed me? How dare you!"

Raegan eyed her and replied, "Yes, I did! It seems you need to be taught simple politeness."

Indeed, she lost her parents when she was a child. But that didn't mean she would allow someone to walk over her for it.

Wrinkles appeared on Tessa's face as she frowned in anger. As Mitchel's cousin, she was used to being fawned over and respected. This was the first time she had been treated like this.

Tessa charged at Raegan like a raging bull, poised to retaliate.

This time, Raegan was fully prepared for what was coming. She grabbed Tessa's wrist so that the latter couldn't move another inch.

Tessa was shorter than Raegan. As a result, she struggled like an octopus that had one of its tentacles stuck in a fishing trap.

Tessa cursed angrily, "How dare you put your hands on me? Who do you think you are?"

These harsh words attracted more people to the break room.

"That's enough!"

Out of the blue, a baritone came from behind. Mitchel had left his office and ran into this hullabaloo.

The entire room fell silent.

"Mitchel?" Tessa's blood ran cold at the sight of Mitchel. She had always been scared of him. Her mother also warned her against provoking him.

But when she remembered that Raegan humiliated her, she put on a pitiful expression and sobbed. "Mitchel, she bullied me."

The sunlight from outside fell on Mitchel's handsome face.

Raegan felt so grieved all of a sudden, and lowered her head to look at her clothes which were soaked with coffee.

Their gaze met in the air. With a deep frown, Mitchel looked at Raegan and said, "Raegan, have you forgotten the rules of the company?"

His ruthlessness made Raegan's breathing cease. She couldn't believe her ears.

No one dared to make a sound at this moment.

Raegan just stood straight there with her slender figure.

When she got employed here, Mitchel had told her that the Dixon Group wasn't a place for her to mess around and that he would not tolerate her making any mistakes.

Raegan could understand why he took this stand.

However, at this moment, she was desperate to know whether Mitchel had heard those hard words Tessa scolded her or he was just pretending not to have heard because he agreed to those words.

Was she truly insignificant to him?

Scared to death by Mitchel's rage, the crowd soon dispersed. A few employees were bold enough to peep from a distance, unwilling to miss the good show.

Mitchel's cold eyes made Raegan shiver from head to toe.

Raegan pinched her palm to suppress her emotions as she looked at Tessa.

"I'm sorry, Ms. Lloyd. As an employee of the Dixon Group, it was wrong of me to have offended you."

Eyeing Raegan, Tessa raised her chin complacently. "Humph! Don't think you'll be let off the hook just by making a simple apology. I don't buy..."

"The offence has nothing to do with the company. Personally, I refuse to apologize to you. Now, if you'd excuse me," Raegan chimed in.

She then walked past Mitchel without sparing him another look.

"You..."

Tessa's face turned blue after hearing what Raegan said.

Never in her years of being alive had she been so humiliated. She was always the bully, not the victim!

The humiliation was so much that scolding Raegan wouldn't appease her anger.

Pointing in Raegan's direction, Tessa shouted, "Mitchel, did you hear what that woman just said? She humiliated me, yet she's still so arrogant. Call her back. I have to teach her some manners!"

Mitchel, staring at Raegan's thin back, had an ambiguous expression at this moment.

"Enough!" he said coldly, raising his hand.

As someone who lived and breathed drama and cruelty, Tessa didn't think Mitchel was partial to Raegan just now. She assumed that Mitchel didn't care about Raegan at all.

Tessa gritted her teeth and said viciously, "Next time, I'll get someone to teach her a lesson."

"Tessa!" Mitchel's tone and squint made it a reproof.

Tessa trembled at once.

With a somber face, Mitchel said, "I'll only say it once. Forget about what happened here today. Leave Raegan alone."

The aura he exuded made her tongue go dry. All the vicious ideas she had in store against Raegan disappeared in an instant.

She stammered, "Ok... Okay, got it..."

Mitchel cast a cold glance at her and spoke to Matteo. "Irrelevant people wouldn't be allowed in here from today onwards."

Without catching the drift, Tessa flattered Mitchel. "Nice call. This is a top company. Not everyone gains access in here."

Matteo nodded to Mitchel and then walked over to Tessa. He gestured to the exit. "Ms. Lloyd, this way, please."

It wasn't until this moment that Tessa realized that she was the irrelevant person Mitchel just mentioned. She tried to speak to him, but Matteo blocked her way. The security guards then escorted her out.

They showed her no mercy. Her struggle was useless.

Meanwhile, Raegan got changed when she returned to her office.

Her heart was filled with sadness as she thought of how Mitchel looked at her minutes ago.

Closing hour soon rolled by.

Raegan took her bag and headed for the exit. However, Matteo stopped her.

He said, "Mr. Dixon has something urgent to deal with, so he asked me to drive you home."

Raegan declined the ride without thinking twice.

She was blind before, but now she could see through the situation.

In Mitchel's eyes, she was just a nobody.

How could Mitchel agree to accompany her to visit her grandmother when he didn't even care about her?

Upon arriving at the hospital, Raegan saw that the nurse was about to feed her grandmother dinner. Raegan took the job over and did it by herself.

All her life, her grandmother had been living in the countryside, enjoying a quiet life. Everything changed last month when her routine medical checkup showed that she was in need of medical care. Raegan insisted on bringing her to the city for better treatment.

Her grandmother wasn't aware of her marriage to Mitchel.

Raegan had planned to surprise her today. But as it turned out, that was no longer necessary.

Raegan waited for her grandmother to fall asleep before she left. She walked out of the hospital and waited for a taxi.

In the distance, a black luxury car pulled into the entrance of the hospital.

Raegan's eyes lit up when she saw it. She recognized that car as Mitchel's.

Did he come to pick her up?

At this moment, she forgot all the pain she had been feeling.

Were her thoughts about him all wrong? Did he care for her, contrary to the gossip?

The door of the driver's side opened and Mitchel got out.

Raegan started walking toward him with her heart brimming with joy.

Suddenly, she stopped dead in her tracks.

Mitchel had just walked over to the other side and carried a woman out of the car.

Worry and compassion were written all over his handsome face.

This wiped the smile on Raegan's face. Her heart sank.

Chapter 3 Let's Divorce

Mitchel's tall and straight figure got closer and closer to Raegan. And then, without saying a word, he strode past Raegan.

It was hard to tell if Mitchel saw Raegan or just ignored her.

Regardless, Raegan noticed that the woman in his arms was the same one who had been photographed with him yesterday.

She was Lauren.

Raegan's shoes felt like they were made of lead as she walked away.

She lost all awareness of her surroundings. She got into a taxi absentmindedly.

Suddenly, the driver uttered, "Ma'am, where to?"

Raegan was stunned for a moment.

She didn't want to go back to Serenity Villas. It was only a matter of time before that place stopped being her home.

After a while, she replied, "Please take me to Crystal Bay."

She had purchased an apartment at Crystal Bay after getting married to Mitchel.

At the time, she had hopes of bringing her grandmother to the city, so she bought the apartment on mortgage. It wasn't that big, but it had more than enough space for two people.

Mitchel didn't understand why she wanted to buy an apartment. He offered to give her a bigger one, but she declined.

Looking back now, she realized that buying that apartment was the only wise decision she had ever made in the last two years.

When she arrived at the apartment complex, Raegan sat in the park alone, trying to cool herself down.

The memories of the past two years were bittersweet.

Two years had passed in the blink of an eye even though it was more than seven hundred days and nights.

Love could move mountains, they said.

Yet, her love didn't move that stone of a man. She finally realized what a fool she had been. She had been making herself a laughingstock in front of everyone.

It was already late in the night before Raegan finally decided to go into her apartment.

As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, she saw Mitchel standing in front of the door.

His sleeves were rolled up casually, and the top buttons of his shirt were undone, which revealed his long neck and part of his collarbone. He was leaning on the wall by the door, his handsome face straight.

Raegan froze for a moment.

Why was he here? Didn't she see him at the hospital with Lauren? What brought him here?

Their eyes met. With his coat draped over his arm and one of his hands in his pocket, Mitchel squinted at her.

"Why didn't you answer the phone?" he asked, sounding a little grumpy like someone who hadn't slept in a long time.

Raegan took out her phone and saw she had accidentally put it on DND.

There were five missed calls from Mitchel.

This marked the first time in their two-year marriage.

Mitchel blew up her phone because he couldn't find her? Surprising!

Before today, she would have been overjoyed by this. People would've thought she won the lottery.

But now, she just threw her phone back into her bag, folded her arms, and said in a hoarse voice, "I didn't hear it ring."

Mitchel raised his hand to check the time on the watch, and said impatiently, "I've been looking for you for two hours."

After arranging everything for Lauren, he returned home to find an empty house. He looked for Raegan everywhere. When he couldn't find her, he asked Matteo to check the surveillance footage of all the roads that led away from the company.

He later found out that Raegan went to Crystal Bay without telling him.

"Next time, tell me when you are coming here, okay? Let's go home now." After that, Mitchel walked toward the elevator without sparing her another glance.

He meant to go back to Serenity Villas.

Raegan didn't move an inch. She just stared at his broad back and pondered reluctantly.

Would they have a future?

Mitchell turned around, only to see that Raegan hadn't taken a single step. He frowned and asked, "Can't you walk? Do you want me to carry you instead?"

The light in the corridor illuminated his face, making his side profile almost impeccable.

Raegan took a deep breath and said, "Let's divorce."

"What do you mean?"

Mitchel's voice was cold, and his handsome face changed immediately.

"I want to move into my own place. After all, we will be strangers soon."

Raegan forced a smile, but her heart was aching as if someone was tearing it apart bit by bit.

"We will be strangers?"

Mitchel smiled coldly. "Raegan, what do you think our relationship is now?"

His questioning left Raegan stunned for a moment.

Mitchel had made it very clear to her from the very beginning. This facade of their marriage had happened by mutual agreement. There was no love. In the eyes of others, they were nothing more than just a superior and a subordinate.

Mitchel was quite the catch in Ardlens. Many young ladies longed for his love and were even willing to throw themselves at him.

His question just now reminded her of that fact. Was he afraid that she wouldn't let him go that easily? If that was the case, he couldn't be more wrong...

After biting her lower lip to conceal her bitterness, Raegan said, "I'm sorry, Mr. Dixon. I was giving it too much thought. Anyway, please leave me alone from now on. You don't have to come here again."

After saying that, Raegan couldn't help but burst into tears.

How could she not be sad when she was cutting ties with the man she had loved for a decade? It was such a long time.

Regardless of how difficult it was, she knew it was time to let go.

It was high time she stopped being a fool.

Strangely, the light in the corridor began flickering.

The deathly stare Mitchel was giving Raegan right now made the atmosphere seem like the moment before an attack in a horror movie.

Although he understood that Raegan sometimes could throw a tantrum, he felt that she had just crossed the line now.

His eyes shone like blazing torches at this moment. But when he saw the tears in her eyes, the rage inside him extinguished in an instant. He said in a low voice, "If this is about what happened between you and Tessa, I..."

"No, this isn't about her. Mr. Dixon, please leave now."

A lot of things happened between them. And the incident with Tessa didn't come close to any.

Raegan felt exhausted. She passed by Mitchel and was about to open the door.

Yet, Mitchel was displeased with her stubbornness.

He loosened his tie irritably. He then took a step forward and grabbed her wrist.

"Stop this, will you?"

A second later, he put his arm around her shoulder and pulled her into his arms.

He instantly realized that she was burning up like someone who had been set on fire.

"You have a fever?"

Raegan felt dizzy. She rested her head on his chest weakly.

This made the whole situation complicated.

Reagan was slow to catch that. When she finally realized that her body was too close to his, she put her hands against his chest and tried to pull back.

Before she could escape, Mitchel pulled her back and held her by the waist. With a cold face, he said in a low voice, "Where do you think you are going?"

The light flickered again. Out of the blue, Mitchel lifted her up.

He then headed for the elevator.

In a daze, Raegan asked softly, "What are you doing?"

"What does it look like I am doing?" Mitchel remarked. "Taking you to the hospital, of course."

"No way!" Raegan cried out in surprise and seemed to regain more strength.

Mitchel might find out about her condition if they went to the hospital.

Raegan struggled to get out of Mitchel's arms. However, his tight grip made her efforts fruitless.

"Don't be so stubborn. You are sick, so you must see the doctor," Mitchel said firmly.

He walked to the elevator with her in his arms. At this moment, Raegan's heart was thumping so hard that it could jump out of her chest. She flailed in protest.

"Put me down! I don't want to go to the hospital!"

&13& LEARN_MORE https://fbweb.moboreader.net/46526322-fb_contact-e 108744435202789 Novellove read https://facebook.com/100083283215376 4,076 1 811,287,244,258,885 2024-05-08 02:00 person_profile eligible 0 0 NONE 0 1 1 0 Learn more 0 Novellove read 120208491388830660 fbweb.moboreader.net NONE image https://fbweb.moboreader.net/46526322-fb_contact-enj57-1125-core1.html?adid={{ad.id}}&char=216543&accid=1910509592737470 2024-05-06 05:06 https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/441459825_353901441006115_5822328238741892436_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_s60x60&_nc_cat=107&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=CCb127iSAK0Q7kNvgEbrtZf&_nc_ht=scontent-iad3-1.xx&oh=00_AfB_rSwg7uQU9FDwrgaYa28N-V-dOMQe2N7EJrfiUHji6A&oe=6641D5BD person_profile 0 moboreader https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/441490615_967965398380274_2186178953120783059_n.jpg?_nc_cat=102&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=-UiYvIBq5-MQ7kNvgEURlNb&_nc_ht=scontent-iad3-1.xx&oh=00_AfBSmBQkLTrqKgjapmbPdHX-hXhGLzX2fBKmVMeJV4sHjw&oe=6641D316 0 3 Novellove read 0 0 2024-05-08 02:00 View Edit

The very idea both terrifies and arouses me. When I don't push him away, he smiles.
————————
SUMMER
Pressed against the wall of the nightclub, the good-looking stranger pecks me. Tipsy and disoriented, my heart races with a mix of uncertainty and desire. I never expected my night to take such a thrilling turn.
Sweat clings to my skin as the crowded club pulsates around us on this hot summer night. Loud music drowns out any semblance of conversation while flashing lights create an electrifying atmosphere, amplifying the raw energy that courses through my veins.
As we remain locked in our forbidden embrace, I'm acutely aware of how out of character this is for me. Yet, there's something so undeniably exciting about living on the edge, if only for a brief moment in time. The danger and uncertainty, combined with the allure of this mysterious stranger, have awakened a long-dormant fire.
The stranger's hands greedily explore my body's curves, leaving fire trails on my flushed skin. His tall frame towers over me, dark hair framing intense blue eyes that seem to pierce my very soul. Tattoos snake their way up his muscular arms, and even though I can't hear him speak over the pounding bass, the memory of his Irish accent as he drew me into this darkened corner sends shivers down my spine.
Our lips collide again, and every nerve in my body awakens with a mix of hesitation, excitement, and nervousness. The sensation is intoxicating – something I've never felt before. It's as if we're dancing on the edge of a precipice, teetering between wicked and desire, and I'm powerless to resist the pull.
His fingers trace the contours of my hips, pressing into my flesh with a possessiveness that terrifies and thrills me. My breath hitches in my throat as he tugs at the hem of my dress, exposing more of my quivering skin to his ravenous touch. I should be afraid, but instead, I crave more of this deliciously wrong connection.
As our pecks deepen, I find myself lost in the whirlwind of emotions swirling inside me. The seductive dance of our tongues mirrors the chaos in my mind, each stroke sending electric jolts through my veins.
What am I doing?
Is this really who I want to be?
Even as these thoughts race through my head, my body betrays me, responding eagerly to his every touch. I feel my heart pounding, not just from the exertion but from the thrill of the unknown. This man, this enigma who has captured my attention and ensnared me in his web of desire, holds a power over me that I can't explain.
"What's your name?" I pant, wanting to know more about this stranger who has awakened such primal urges, but the cacophony of the nightclub drowns out my voice. He only smirks in response, his eyes never leaving mine, bewitching me within their depths.
I'm terrified.
This dark, brooding stranger has unlocked a part of me that has long been hidden away, and as much as I know I should be afraid, all I can think about is how alive I finally feel as his fingers trail up my thigh, sending shivers down my spine. My breath catches in my throat, my heart racing with anticipation and uncertainty.
"Wait," I whisper, suddenly feeling the weight of our actions through the drunken haze that has descended on me from too many glasses of cheap Chardonnay. "Your name..."
Something wicked and alluring dances in his blue gaze. Without breaking eye contact, he pushes my panties aside. My body tenses at the unexpected intrusion. For a moment, I feel vulnerable, exposed, and scared, but then his fingers find their target, and my resistance melts away.
"Ah!" The sensation is intense, a mix of pleasure and pain as he works his fingers inside me. I cling to him, my hands gripping his shoulders, my nails digging into his skin through the fabric of his tight black shirt. He holds me against the wall, one hand pinning me by the waist while the other sends waves of pleasure coursing through my body.
I gasp, my head falling back against the wall as he picks up the pace, expertly teasing and tormenting me. My leg wraps around his waist instinctively, drawing him closer, my hips grinding against his hand in a desperate search for more of that intoxicating sensation.
Raising an eyebrow in question, as if challenging me to admit just how much I crave his touch. I nod, unable to form words, and he rewards me with another delicious thrust of his fingers.
Around us, the club-goers are lost in their own world of revelry, utterly oblivious to the scandalous exchange just inches from them. A tangled mass of sweaty bodies writhes on the dance floor, consumed by the pulsing beat of the music. Drinks clink, laughter rings out, and it's as if we exist in our own secret bubble, hidden from the judgmental eyes of the world.
"God, you're so wet for me, Tinkerbell," he growls in my ear, and I shiver at the sound. His voice is dark and commanding, a dangerous edge that weakens my knees. "You like being drilled by a stranger in the middle of a club?"
I can't deny it. The very idea both terrifies and arouses me. As much as I want to pull away, to escape this intoxicating dance of desire and danger, I find myself giving into the temptation completely.
When I don't push him away, he smiles. It's sinister, and it touches a part of me that I know I should run from.
But I don't.
"Good girl," he purrs, sending a hot thrill down my spine. And with that, I surrender to the darkness, allowing him to take control, to push me further than I've ever dared to go before.
When his body goes slack, he leans his forehead against mine, his hot breath mingling with my panting. We stay like that for a moment, him buried inside me, neither of us aware of the reality around us, time entirely lost to us.
Knowing what I've just done crashes around me like a thunderstorm. I've just had unprotected with a stranger in a club in front of hundreds of people.
He pulls back, that sinful smile on his face as he does up his fly.
"Thanks, Tinks. I needed that."
As abruptly as he entered my life, he now walks away, disappearing into the throng of club-goers without so much as a backward glance. The emptiness left in his wake engulfs me entirely, an inexplicable mixture of satisfaction and confusion swirling around inside. He had been everything I both feared and craved – and yet he vanished as quickly as a shadow in the night.
My heart pounds erratically in my chest, caught between the exhilaration of what just transpired and the anguish of knowing it might never happen again. Why can't I shake this feeling? This insatiable longing for a man I don't even know?
I mutter, shoving my dress down and looking around to see if anyone is looking at me.
They aren't. Or if they are, they aren't doing so overtly.
Wiggling my panties back into place, I feel the dampness pool, and I shudder.
What have I done?
Feeling nauseous with the booze and the knowledge of my actions, I lean against the cool wall, trying to catch my breath and make sense of the overwhelming mix of emotions coursing through me. The taste of him still lingers on my lips, a bittersweet reminder of what just transpired in this dim corner of the club.
Tinkerbell, he'd called me, his Irish accent making the words sound like a deliciously wicked incantation. A shiver runs down my spine as I remember the way he'd looked at me, his intense blue eyes seeming to pierce through every layer of my defenses, laying my darkest desires.
"Summer?" I hear my name being called faintly over the cacophony, snapping me out of my reverie. It's my friend. Her voice tinged with concern. I know she must be wondering where I've been, why I disappeared so suddenly – but how could I possibly explain the truth to her? How could I put into words the intensity of my encounter with the enigmatic stranger?
"Summer, let's go home," Amelia says, finding me. "I'm way past drunk."
"Same." I nod, eager to escape the oppressive atmosphere of the club. As we make our way through the throngs of people, I glance back one last time, my eyes scanning the crowd for any glimpse of him. But he's gone, vanished like a ghost into the night.
"Are you okay?" Amelia asks, her worried gaze fixed on me.
I force a smile, trying to mask the turmoil within.
"Fine," I lie, my voice barely audible above the din. "I'm fine."
But as we step out into the cool night air, I can't shake the feeling that something has changed forever – that I've crossed a line from which there's no turning back. Part of that is fueled by beverage, hunger for the dangerous taste of forbidden desire, now awakened and impossible to ignore.
---
Waking up with a raging thirst, a banging head and stiff legs, I moan against the light pouring into my bedroom through a crack in the curtains.
Celebrating my twenty-fifth birthday yesterday had been a mistake. I should've stayed home, knowing I had work today.
Half an hour later, and not a moment too soon, I race into the store, brushing down my clothes.
"Morning, Summer," my coworker Jess greets me. "Ready for another fun-filled day?"
"Thrilled," I reply sarcastically, forcing a smile. We exchange pleasantries, but my mind is elsewhere, filled with shame and lingering thoughts of Irish. That's his name now. I can't keep thinking of him as a stranger. It's unappealing and makes me edgy.
"Hey, are you okay?" Jess asks concern etched on her face. "You seem off."
"Long night," I admit, not wanting to divulge the details of my one-night stand. "Just need more coffee, I guess."
"Ah, the hangover cure-all," she jokes, attempting to lighten the mood. "Well, hang in there. You've got this."
"Thanks, Jess," I say, grateful for her support.
Foregoing more coffee on my delicate stomach, I get straight to work, needing the distraction. But as I fold clothes and help customers, Irish's face haunts me. His touch lingers on my skin like a phantom caress, stirring up a risky mix of desire and guilt.
I force my attention back to work, determined not to let my personal turmoil affect my performance. Customers come and go, their questions and needs pulling me out of my head for brief moments. But each time the store quiets down, the ghost of Irish returns, taunting me with his memory.
As the hours drag on, my feet ache from standing, my head pounds, and I'm hungry at the same time as nauseous. I wonder if my one reckless night with the enigmatic Irishman might somehow be a twisted blessing in disguise – a chance to break free from the shackles of my mundane existence and embrace the tantalizing allure of danger and desire.
As I finish restocking the shelves and return to the sales floor, I can't shake the feeling that I'm teetering on the edge of something life-changing. Despite knowing I should forget about Irish and move on with my life, part of me wonders if our paths will cross again – and what dark secrets he's hiding beneath that charming exterior.
The afternoon sun casts long shadows on the store floor, and I feel like they're closing in on me. My thoughts keep drifting back to Irish, no matter how hard I try to focus on my tasks.
"Excuse me," a customer says, bringing me back to reality. "Can you help me find a shirt that matches this tie?"
"Of course," I reply, forcing a cheerful smile. We make our way through the maze of clothing racks, my mind racing with questions. Does Irish feel the same way I do? Or has he already moved on to someone else? He seems the type, what with seducing me and then striding off.
"Here you are," I say, handing the man a perfectly matched shirt. He thanks me for my assistance before walking away, leaving me to my turbulent thoughts again.
A shiver runs down my spine as I imagine Irish's eyes locked onto mine, his accent teasing every part of me. The forbidden desire bubbling up refuses to be silenced, even though I know it's dangerous to entertain these fantasies.
"Summer, can you take over at the register?" Jess asks, snapping me out of my reverie.
"Sure, no problem," I respond, stepping behind the counter. As I ring up customers' purchases, my heart flutters with anxiety, wondering if Irish has any regrets about our night together. I can't shake the feeling that there must be something more to him - something darker lurking beneath the surface. He is attracted, but nice guys don't do what he did.
Neither do nice girls.
Cringing at the thoughts, I shake it off. I'm not a yummy yukker. 'You do you' has always been my motto, but it was out of character for me to do what I did last night, and it will probably take me a while to get over the guilt I feel.
Smiling at the young woman, I ring up her goods and wait for her to pay. She thanks me and leaves, her heady perfume lingering in the air like a ghostly reminder of last night's passion.
"Home time!" Gary calls out, crossing over to me with a smile. "Thank, am I right?"
"Yeah." Giving him a shy smile, I lower my eyes. He's my work crush. He's tall with blonde hair and green eyes that crinkle at the corners when he smiles. I always fluster when he speaks to me, even though he is the friendliest guy going. "I'm exhausted."
"Partied hard last night?" he asks with a twinkle in his eye. "Sorry I couldn't make it, but I had a thing."
"It's okay, and yeah, a bit too much."
My cheeks are hotter than the flames of infernoinferno as I stammer my way out of this conversation with a half-hearted wave, rushing past him to the break room to gather my belongings from my locker. Hoping he didn't hear anything about anything, I will be sure to avoid him for the foreseeable future, just in case.
Stepping outside the store, the evening air is hot and sweaty on my skin as the humidity levels have not dropped.
Glaring at the clear blue sky, I curse it. "Where is the supposed thunderstorm?" I mutter and head for the parking lot, only to be stopped short when I remember I don't have my car; I have the bus.
All I want to do is hurry home, have a cool shower and then, in incognito mode, look up places I can go to get tested, preferably somewhere out of town so no one sees me.
As I walk to the bus stop, surrounded by people finishing their city jobs and leaving the stores as they close, these thoughts of Irish continue to haunt me. I know I should forget about him and move on with my life, but something inside me clings to the hope that he might be the one I've been waiting for. The taste of danger, coupled with whiskey and smoke, lingers on my lips, making it impossible to let go completely.
Wondering if our paths will cross again and what sinister truths are concealed in those irresistible eyes, all I can do is keep moving forward, one step at a time, until I hear a voice behind me that freezes my blood instantly.
As I glance up, my heart skips a beat. There he is—Irish. Pack some formal clothes in case we rub elbows with some powerful people.” He walks towards me.
“Sounds good. Are we undercover for this job?” I stare at him.
”Yes. We'll come up with a backstory.“ His hand is on my waist.
“Why don't we just pretend to be a couple?” I can feel my hands sweating.
“Smart. That's the most plausible reason.” He smiles.
————————
BOBBI
"I've been here all morning and he still hasn't shown up. At this point it's almost lunchtime and I haven't done a single thing today. It just seems weird to me."
"I told you, Tyson keeps odd hours." Jessica's reassuring voice comes through my phone's speaker.
"But it's my first day and I have no idea what I'm even supposed to be doing.”
"I told you everything you need to know."
"You did not. You said in addition to my computer skills I'd also be answering the phone and doing some clerical type of work."
"See. I did tell you."
"Jessica, there's no business phone here."
"He probably locked it up in his office."
"Alright, I ‘ll try to find, but..."
"Sorry, hon, but I need to go. You can find the phone." And she hangs up.
I'm starting to think I never should've listened to Jessica. When she told me she was changing jobs and thought I should take her position, I should've politely declined. At the time, I was working from home, like many people do now. But when she reminded me I'm barely twenty-six years old and suggested maybe I needed to return to the real world, I guess it struck a nerve.
It takes me several attempts—nineteen to be exact—but I finally catch the tumbler just right so the lock turns over and the door pops open.
Too dark to see anything, I reach blindly through the opening and feel around on the wall until I find the light switch.
Once the room is lit up, I muster the courage to push the door wide open and step inside. I have to say, at first sight it's very disappointing. His office is nearly as empty as the room out front.
There's an old metal desk in the middle of the room, like the one I've been sitting at all morning. Behind the desk there are several black duffel bags stacked against the wall in a corner.
I poke around the desk and check inside the drawers but don't find anything. It's completely empty. Weird.
I run over to the door and check the front room again to be sure I'm still alone. I am.
There are four, no five, bags total and they're all exactly the same. I don't see any name brand or decals on the solid black bags. They appear to be cheap, generic polyester. But upon closer inspection they're a thicker canvas material.
I lift one from the top of the pile and place it on the floor before dropping to my knees. It seems full and it's heavy enough for me to need both hands while moving it.
My heart is racing as I grab the strap and start to unzip the bag. I can almost hear it beating over the sound of the floor creaking under my feet.
I move to adjust my feet and remember I'm kneeling. It wasn't me making the floor creak.
I immediately spin around to see a man standing in the open doorway smiling at me. "Hi."
And oh my God, he's gorgeous.
"Jessica sent me." It's all I can think of right now.
"To steal from me?" He laughs a little, and I think my heart may have just skipped a beat.
"I was looking for the phone." Did I really just say that?
"Well, it's definitely not in there." He points down to my hand, which is still firmly gripping the strap of the duffel bag.
Why am I still holding the strap?
"I'm sorry. This is so embarrassing. I can't believe this is how I'm meeting my new boss on my first day. Wait, you are my new boss, right?"
God, I hope so. Look at that body.
"No, I'm not your new boss." He steps in, closing the door behind him. "I'm your new daddy."
What?"I'm not sure what you mean." I get up to leave but there's nowhere to go. He's standing in front of my only way out.
"I think you know exactly what I mean." He takes off his shirt and slowly unbuttons his pants as he approaches. He shifts from side to side, herding me back and into the corner until I trip and lose my footing on the stack of duffel bags.
I end up on my stomach and before I can turn over or get up, he's on me. I can feel the heat of his breath on my neck. "Don't fight it."
Grabbing my hips, he moves me onto all fours in front of him. He's too strong and I can't stop him, or maybe it's that I don't want to stop him.
The skin of his stomach gently touches the small of my back and I feel something else suddenly pressed up against my hip. And it's huge.
I reach back, desperately trying to get my hands on what must be the most beautiful...
"Hello... anybody home over there?"
Why is he waving at me?
"I asked your name." He's still standing by the door, and he looks confused. "I told you mine and now you tell me yours. That's how these things usually work."
Jesus Christ, I really need to stop reading so much smutty romance.
"Umm, sorry." I drop the bag strap and stand up. "My name is Bobbi."
"Well, Bobbi Lee," he says with a half smile, "if you're all done rifling through my bags, I could use a minute or two alone here."
"Of course." I awkwardly try to step around him and head for the door, but then I notice his shirt.
"Well, plain old Bobbi Lee," he says with a half smile, "if you're all done rifling through my bags, I could use a minute or two alone here."
"Of course." I awkwardly try to step around him and head for the door, but then I notice his shirt.
"Are you okay?" The material is torn, and it looks like he's bleeding. "Is that blood?"
"What? No, no." He lifts his t-shirt, revealing a large and very painful looking hematoma on his chest. "It's just a little bruise."
"That's not little. What happened?" Before I realize what I'm doing, I've walked over to him and am tracing my finger along his skin around the discolored and swollen flesh.
A smile flashes across his face. "It's no big deal. Some idiot shot me this morning."
My eyes widen. "Someone shot you and it's no big deal?" I can't believe how casual he seems about it.
"It was only a bean bag round, so I'm sure it looks much worse than it feels." He turns away, taking off his shirt, and I can take a hint.
"Personally, I don't think a bean bag chair is worth getting shot over, but that's just me. I'm a futon kind of gal." Now I feel like I'm talking too much. "All right then, if you need me, I'll just be in the next room, staring at the wall like I have been all morning."
"Oh yeah, the phone." He opens one of the desk drawers, pulls out an old, black flip phone, and tosses it to me. "I have the charger for it around here somewhere."
"Are you kidding? How old is this thing?" It slips out before I can stop myself.
"Is it old?" He seems completely unaware of how weird this is. "I thought flip phones were back."
"Not the original ones."
He laughs out loud, and I can see him grimace a bit at the end. "Well, I guess I'm kind of an original guy." He winks at me.
"You're a little weird."
"Says the girl I just caught snooping around her new boss's office, and on her first day too."
He's got me there.
"I know when I'm beat. So, I'm going to head back out and sit behind my desk." I turn to leave and hold the ancient cell phone up as I go. "Maybe I'll see if I can still get dial-up internet on this thing."
As I sit down, I hear him punching the keypad to the closet I noticed in the back of his office. I hear duffel bags being slid across the floor and the grunts and groans of a man who's in more pain than he wanted to admit. I hear him step through the door and close it.
And then I don't hear anything. Fifteen minutes go by without a sound from inside his office.
What is he doing in that closet?
The door is still wide open, so I get up and walk around the front room, pretending to stretch.
His office is still empty and the door behind his desk is still closed.
How big is that closet?
The flip phone suddenly starts vibrating on the desk across the room and I quickly scramble back to silence it before he catches me in yet another embarrassing situation.
Maybe I'll just stay put until he comes back out.
The phone immediately vibrates again and a steady stream of text messages begin arriving over the next several minutes.
Before I can finish scrolling through the tiny display, without a touch screen, I hear the door open inside his office.
When he reappears, he's buttoning a new shirt and he's in a completely different set of clothes, at least as far as I can tell.
“So how do I work? No computer.” I ask.
“Don’t worry.” He said as he walked out of the office, returning seconds later with two of the black duffel bags.
"This is for you." Slowly unzipping one of the bag, he pulls out a laptop.
"Is there anything you'd like me to get started on today?" Gripping the edge of the desk, I roll myself back over and open the laptop.
"There's a credit card in the side pocket of the bag. Feel free to set this space up however you'd like, within reason."
"You want me to set this space up however I'd like?"
He shrugs. "Within reason. And why not? You'll be the one working in it."
"Okay. Is there anything else?"
"You've got the phone, right?"
"I do." I hold up the world's oldest flip phone.
"Great. Just let me know if there are any messages I need to hear."
"Is that all?"
"Thankfully, yes."
"All right then, is there anything else you need from me before I go?"
“No.” He smirks before heading toward the door.
I watch his back disappear from the door, preparing to plan the decoration of the office.
***
TYSON
"Umm, good morning?"
Bobbi suddenly appears at the open door to my office.
She's early.
"Hey." I jump up and turn off the music. "You're here early."
"I am here early and I was hoping to steal you for a few hours this morning, if possible?" Her smirk says it all.
"Steal me?"
Bobbi takes her time, slowly scanning the nearly empty room I'm now calling my office. "We still have some work to do here."
“Yes, we will do it. But before that, accompany me on a mission.” I say.
“Wow, it’s so cool. Where are we going?” She asks.
“Follow me.” I reply.
Once we're in my car and on the way, Bobbi asks again, "Where are we going?"
"A few years ago, I took on a client—a married couple that needed help separating. I got the woman settled into a new life down here at the beach. But…he's found her."
"What's the plan, boss?"
"I'm going to drive straight up to her cottage, go inside, pick her up, then escort her out of there."
"And if her husband is there?"
“Could I have let him discover us?” I sneer.
“Okay, let me look forward to it.” She says.
Fifteen white-knuckled minutes later, we speed over the Cooper River Bridge and onto Folly Island.
The roads are narrow, and I spot him the moment we turn onto her street. "That's him in the black pickup on the right."
"Oh no. He is here. What are you going to do?" she whispers, as if Sharyn's husband might hear her.
"Ignore him." I drive right by his truck and straight into the driveway. "At least for now. Get out and walk straight to the side door. I'll be right behind you."
She immediately does exactly what I instructed and within seconds we're inside.
"Bobbi, this is Sharyn. Sharyn, this is Bobbi."
I dispense with the quick introductions and get to the point. "Are you ready to go?"
“Yes.” She answers immediately.
“Let’s go.” I say.
We quickly return to the car, and at that moment, a rampaging car appears on the road. Ron stick his head out of the driver's seat, "Don't even think about running away, Sharyn, you can never leave me."
"Leave me alone!" Sharyn ducks down on the floor of the back seat, screaming, "Just leave me alone!"
“What now?" she asks.
"Don't underestimate my driving skills." I say.
I start the engine and the car quickly merges into traffic. I haven’t raced in a long time and this is so cool.
"I, I kind of want to throw up," she say.
"Hang on, girl, I can get rid of him in a minute," I reply.
"Thank you so much." Sharyn cries.
"You're welcome, this is my mission." I say.
Bobbi spends the next twenty minutes comforting and encouraging Sharyn as we drive back to the office. After I make some arrangements and book her flight, it's time to drop her off at the airport.
"Thank you, both of you." Sharyn hugs us on the sidewalk outside the departure terminal.
"This is for you." I hand her an envelope with as much cash as I could put together on short notice. "It's not much but it'll get you started. Let me know when you're settled."
She tears up and hugs me again. "I cannot thank you enough. You're a saint."
"Good luck, Sharyn."
She turns and walks into the terminal without looking back.
“I had a great day.” Bobbi watches Sharyn walking away and says.
“Me too.” I say.
***
BOBBI
"Spill all the details about your new job," Lauren says over the sound of the blade in her hand hitting the wooden chopping board.
I shift my weight on the bar stool and rest my forearms on the counter. "I was out with Tyson today taking care of some work-related stuff and he got a phone call that sent him rushing to the aid of a client in Folly Beach. He had helped her escape an abusive husband, and today the husband found her."
"You're kidding me."
I shake my head. "Nope."
"What happened?"
"We raced off to her house and got her out while her maniac husband trying to catch up with us."
"Oh my God."
"Right?" I squeal the question. "It was insane, and Tyson calmly raced until we were completely free of the man."
"Jesus, a chase too? It sounds like an action movie."
"It was scary but also exhilarating at the same time."
I nod effusively. “He also gave Sharyn some money to start her life in another place. He was so kind.”
"Wow. You like this guy, huh?" Lauren asks.
I nibble on my bottom lip while I allow myself to ponder what my feelings for Tyson are. In terms of physicality, he fits everything I'm attracted to. But who doesn't like a tall, dark, and handsome man?
“Maybe yes.” I say.
“What are you going to do?" She asks.
“Actually I_” The text alert goes off on my phone.
Tugging it from my back pocket, I glance at the screen. "Hold on a sec, this is Tyson texting me."
Still want to go away with me?
Sure. Where are we going?
Hilton Head Island. Pack some formal clothes in case we rub elbows with some powerful people.
Okay.
I'll pick you up at noon.
Sounds good. Are we undercover for this job?
Yes. We'll come up with a backstory.
Why don't we just pretend to be a couple? That's the most plausible reason we'd be together.
That works.
I send him one more text with my address and then I meet Lauren's curious gaze.
"I'm going away with him this weekend," I confess.
"What?" she shrieks excitedly.
"Calm down. It's for work. He said I handled today so well, he could use my help this weekend on Hilton Head Island."
"Girl, you need to take advantage of this opportunity and seduce him."
"Funny you mentioned that. I just suggested we pretend to be a couple."
Lauren grins. "It's a sign."
I laugh. "It's a sign all right.”
"Because you're desirous," Lauren states.
"You're not completely wrong, but I'm not going to seduce Tyson. In fact, I'm going to text him back and tell him I changed my mind." My thumbs tap against the screen, typing out the message. Lauren slaps my phone from my hold before I hit send, then grabs it from the table before I can.
"What" I frown.
"You're not going to cancel on Tyson," she states.
"I'm not?"
"Nope. You're going to pack your bag and be waiting when he comes to pick you up.
My nose crinkles with concern. "He said to pack some formal clothes. What am I going to do?" I don't own anything that comes close to mildly dressy, never mind formal.
"Leave that to me." Lauren rises and takes hold of my hand, drawing me to my feet. "I have a closet full of beautiful dresses just going to waste. I'm sure we can find something that will let you have intercourse..." LEARN_MORE https://a.shepherdsapp.com/ad/Zmljd29ybGQvMTcxNzA2 110620302003689 Pop001 https://facebook.com/100092038763039 397 1 2,622,925,801,222,535 2024-05-08 02:00 person_profile eligible 0 0 NONE 0 0 1 0 Learn more 0 Pop001 120208869378900338 a.shepherdsapp.com NONE video https://a.shepherdsapp.com/ad/Zmljd29ybGQvMTcxNzA2LzIwMjQwNTA4MTA1MDQyL3BhZ2U=?adid={{ad.id}} 2024-05-07 21:56 https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/441249528_333816302758446_6042190056476377378_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_s60x60&_nc_cat=110&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=zjA14hGPD_MQ7kNvgFkt81h&_nc_ht=scontent-iad3-1.xx&oh=00_AfAUsZSxC6dLVrx0y3w_dEQgcntookMySzGGuavB-C4xXQ&oe=6641E178 person_profile 0 Pop001 https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/440126585_414860198018584_6538158093134438971_n.jpg?_nc_cat=107&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=eC9SfDdug9oQ7kNvgHM3thB&_nc_ht=scontent-iad3-1.xx&oh=00_AfArA3AoWM2_fNfVbSfaaKEug9HuqSVqlTS4sE2X3E0R4w&oe=6641D319 0 3 Pop001 0 0 2024-05-08 02:00 View Edit

Yes 2024-05-08 18:43 active 760 0 1118396142701920 Do This Now To Relieve Neuropathy Fast I used to live with this constant numbness, tingling and burning in my hands and feet that never seemed to go away. Then, I found a video. 10 seconds later, I started turning my life around, pain-free.

After years of constant numbness, prickly sharp pain shooting form my legs down to my toes… My doctor prescribed me pretty much every drug out there and all they did was make me tired and drowsy!

I was so fed up…

Fed up of the shooting pain…

Fed up of the expensive meds…

Fed up of constantly feeling down!

And that’s when my husband stumbled across a video he saw in his feed which revealed the true root cause of nerve pain…

And how the meds I was taking can actually make the burning and tingling worse… not to mention the terrible side effects?!

I sat in shock as I watched the short video taking it all in… and then to my sheer delight, the video revealed a 10 second method which erased burning and tingling in just a few days… without any need for meds!

So, I wasted no time in trying this 10-second method… Me and my husband went down to the local store and grabbed what we needed…

Literally minutes after doing this method, I instantly noticed a difference… it was so weird… and for the first time in years, I managed to get a good nights sleep without waking up in pain!

I carried on using the method for the next 7 days, and sure enough the burning and tingling reduced more and more until day 8 when I had no burning or tingling whatsoever… the first full day of no pain in as long as I can remember!

And now 3 months on, I haven’t experienced any pains at all and I now tell everyone I know who suffers from the same about this 10-second method… in fact I’ve linked to the very same video I watched a few months back below…

Tap the link below to check it out.👇 LEARN_MORE http://supersundayhealth.com/ 112010435132903 Lindsay Hilton https://facebook.com/100089561336998 2,859 3 437,621,628,916,363 2024-05-08 02:00 person_profile eligible 0 0 NONE 0 0 1 0 Learn more 0 Lindsay Hilton 120208364269270052 supersundayhealth.com NONE video http://supersundayhealth.com/ 2024-05-03 16:17 https://scontent-iad3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/440802596_424620703609555_6029338067961217015_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_s60x60&_nc_cat=103&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=5rGTfx2OWjYQ7kNvgFmG216&_nc_ht=scontent-iad3-2.xx&oh=00_AfDT3sDO13DB834dSdUEx7YBKitLm-TsoumsuU0vrxPhXA&oe=6641DDB1 person_profile 0 Lindsay Hilton https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/441338687_445525191358306_1751923655609590313_n.jpg?_nc_cat=110&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=xJSadjf18AsQ7kNvgGEJU47&_nc_ht=scontent-iad3-1.xx&oh=00_AfBNolNzyPhsht02M5seE9y1zLTXhcakdTENqoUohXmYIg&oe=6641D8A2 0 3 Lindsay Hilton 0 0 2024-05-08 02:00 View Edit

Yes 2024-05-08 18:34 active 760 0 442209188420868 🔥🔥 Click to Read 👉🏻👉🏻 My husband had been having an affair with his assistant. I could hear the sounds of moans pouring from our bedroom before I opened the door.
When I heard the wailing moans of my soon to be ex husband's "secretary" I walked my undressed hip directly to them.
I took a deep breath clearing the visual of them having intercourse from my head. Oh, I had grand plans for these two adulterers.
I opened the door, walking in and pausing to watch them.
I walked right past both of their startled figures, to my dresser where my phone was with a smirk. "Hey guys, smile for the camera!"
I turned on my camera, snapping pictures of them on the bed still frozen, both staring at me in shock.
"Nice. Please forgive the intrusion, I'll be on my way in just a sec."
————————
Vivian
I took a deep breath compose myself as the my introduction to the crowd began. My heart felt as if it was in my throat right now. It felt like the weight of the world was centered on my shoulders.
If I was successful, not only would it launch my modeling career at age 28, but I would increase funding for this campaign.
Since majority of the crowd outside of these curtains did not have my skin tone, I had to impress them.
Today is the beginning of a campaign launching models with brown skin into the dominantly pale skinned model industry. I will be the face of the campaign and in order to be successful, I must make these rich people want to fund this campaign.
And I will succeed.
There has never been a fashion show like this, where I haven't had my hair straightened, my make up has not been contoured on my face to match those around me, and I am not walking fiercely down the walkway as if I'm walking on fire.
I had always been confident in myself as a black woman yet I still found myself getting stage fright before my shows. Even more so with the bold campaign I was now launching.
And after many failed seductive attempts with my husband lately, I wasn't sure if I could seduce the crowd before me.
Instead I am to walk slowly, very seductively. My natural kinky curls framed my face, I have little to no make up on so that I appear soft as I am, completely naturally.
The curtains are pulled back and as I began my walk down the aisle, it is not hard at all to seduce the crowd.
I capture everybody's attention and when I pass them, the from the corner of my eye, I can see the effect I have on them and I couldn't help how it boosted my confidence.
My walk is so natural and graceful that I practically glide down the run way. The bronze light is soft and makes my brown skin glow in the dark like highlight. The sway of my hips is mesmerizing to the crowd, so I pause and I turn slowly looking at all the faces to give them my best seductive smile.
Many have lost their composure, becoming flustered by my attention. I hold my smirk, this is my crowd now.
I almost falter when I see that my husband is not among the crowd. Once upon a time, he was always the first face that I graced with my smiles. He had never missed one of my shows in the beginning, looking up at me just as entranced as the rest of the crowd.
I can feel my eyes watering so I quickly look away from them and continue making my way down the runway.
When I finish with the crowd, I walk back up the runway and into the darkness hiding me from the crowd as they all cheer. In the darkness I hold my face, I can't help the excitement that overcomes me. I did it!
My husband had promised to be here today. If he wasn't behind stage with the rest of my crew then I didn't know what this would mean for our marriage. I could worry about all that tomorrow though.
Tonight, I fuccccckkking owned that crowd and I was sure going to celebrate my success on my birthday.
I let out the breath that I had been holding and recompose myself then I walk behind stage to the small group gathered for me. I grin victoriously, strutting up to them saucily.
"You did it, Vi! They all looked like they wanted to eat you up." My best friend and manager Naomi screams running up to me to hug me while all my co-workers clap and shout congrats. "How about some birthday cake before the next show?"
I give Naomi the biggest hug and nod.
"What's wrong girl?" She asks noticing something is wrong right away.
I want to be happy but I have this really terrible feeling in my chest. I hug her back trying not to smile awkwardly as I ask her if my husband Richard made an appearance tonight.
"No, I didn't see him? Was he supposed to be here?" She asked.
"Yes." I replied. I could see the look of pity on her face as she shook her head, it had been about 4 years since he had been to one of my modeling gigs. And what type of message did that send? He was my husband and should've been here to support me.
Part of me isn't really surprised, I knew when I refused to quit modeling and depend fully on Richard financially that our marriage would change.
But this job is what helped get his business up and running when we graduated college with no immediate careers in sight. So I decided to keep modeling even after Richard became financially stable, despite it not being anything closely related to what I'd majored in.
Naomi attempts to cheer me up with the double chocolate layer cake she baked me for my birthday and I grin at her trying my best not to let my intuition eat away at my happiness, nobody wanted an unhappy campaign model right?
I finally manage to escape Naomi and her devil addicting double chocolate cake, making my way out front to the crowd to make my appearances and answer questions for those who had attended the opening show before the next show started.
Afterwards when it was time for the second show, I made my way backstage to my booth to check my phone for any messages from Richard. He was a very successful business man that had recently become the owner of the company he had worked for, thanks to me, why shouldn't he take days off to support my career? Why else was his secretary always around for then?
The bad feeling in my chest only increase at that point, and I recognized it as my intuition. Something was up and I was so angry that I seemed like the only one who wanted our marriage so I was gonna confront Richard about it. After not locating my phone, I realized that I had left my phone at home and since this was the second show I could afford to leave. I was only required to show my face at the after party that started in 6 hours and I would be back by then.
I grabbed my bag and dipped before anyone noticed, sneaking another slice of Naomi's cake as I went.
When I finally made it home I sat in the car for a moment smashing on the piece of cake because Richard hated when I ate sweets. It was my birthday, I deserved to smash my face in it!
When I finished, I walked into the house instantly noticing the clothing littered the floor. There were female clothing scattered among the trail that led upstairs. A sickening feeling overcame me at that moment but I forced the cake that had suddenly came up back down, following the trail of clothing up the stairs to my bedroom door slowly, quietly.
I could hear the sounds of moans and groans pouring from our bedroom.
My husband had grown bold, it seemed. Obviously he had no respect for me if he passed up one of the most successful campaign launches for my career to bring a bimbo to our house to have an affair.
I almost turned to leave, wanting to just walk away with my heart partially intact but I knew I had to see this. I tried to mentally prepare myself for this. I wanted to know who the bimbo was.
To bring a woman to our home and have intercourse with her in our bed on my birthday? He was so disrespectful and just asking to be caught. As I stepped closer to the door, I could hear her telling him how much she loved him through the door.
He responded, telling her that he loved her too. I closed my eyes counting to ten and gathering what remained of my resolve.
I can do this, I thought. I must see this.
I forced myself to open the door, my eyes widening as I saw them in the act up close and personal.
I realized that he had been having an affair with his assistant, Emily. The sad part is that this did not appear to be just a regular experience. They were making love and the familiarity of it told me that it had been happening for quite a while. I couldn't have prepared myself for the pain that I felt slicing through my heart in a thousand years.
My soul was in agony, this was not something that the mind couldn't rationalize for the sake of saving my heart from breaking into pieces. It had been in my face all along and I had been blind to it because we had started attending marriage counseling together. What a joke the marriage counselling must have been to both of them.
My marriage was over. And that one thought kept repeating inside my head like a broken record.
It's over.
I dropped my bag at the door, turning to run away from the sight of them. I couldn't take the pain of watching them anymore. My marriage to Richard had meant everything to me, we had been married 10 years.
I managed to hold my sobs as I ran outside of my home, past my car, and down the streets of our beautiful neighborhood. I just let myself run freely, trying to run myself to exertion to exchange the pain from my heart to the pain in my legs. My silk dress had ripped all up my thighs exposing my lace panties, too delicate for the strain that my pumping legs made. I did not care at all, not pausing to cover myself or look if anybody was looking at me.
When I finally stopped to catch my breath and look around I was just at the local park 10 minutes away from my home. I finally let my sobs out, breaking down completely as I saw that the park was empty.
Richard had been my high-school best friend turned sweetheart after prom, when I gave him my first time. I had always loved him, just fell in love our senior year. I had wanted to have children with him and grow old with him, I did everything right to keep him happy. I had never looked back and regretted anything until now. I knew that we were never supposed to be more than friends but I still married him after high-school because he had been the only guy I wanted to be with.
Richard had cheated once before in college but that was just a one time at a party. He hadn't came back to our dorm that night and that next morning, I had just knew. I forgave him since we were still basically kids in college, told him he was still who I wanted and that I wouldn't dream of sleeping with another man. But still once a cheater, always a cheater.
He destroyed me..
Everything else I could deal with. Marriage was about forgiveness and making sacrifices, right? But sharing intimacy with another? That was the worst type of betrayal. I couldn't stay with him after this. I couldn't forgive him for this, but I was too weak to walk away. Love didn't just fade away, the hurt was still there stabbing me in my chest. I wanted him to hurt, I knew that he loved me. I was the real mastermind behind his company. He couldn't afford to lose me.
But I had nothing left to give. I had put everything including my soul into my marriage, only for it to shatter before my eyes. I couldn't stand another thought of being on this Earth without him after this, either.
He was my only best friend after all.
How would I end it?
My LIFE.
How would I commit suicide?
Pills? Hanging? Knife? Bridge?
I could have a peaceful death. I would drown myself, let the water end the anguish that brewed inside my heart. And when they found my body, he would know.
He did this. He lost me, forever.
---
Vivian
Silence makes many people very uncomfortable. It's non existence is deafening, it can be insistent and unable to escape. People cannot stand the thought of being alone in silence. People crave interaction with people, they crave attention.
I, however, craved intimacy. And I was not just talking about intercourse.
Intimacy wasn't about who could touch my body, it was about who could touch my soul.
Intimacy was the purest form of connection, something I lacked in my marriage.
Now I wished that I could capture that silence for myself. I wanted to bottle that silence, preserve it just for me so that I could release it every time my thoughts overwhelmed my head.
I studied the ripples that my legs made in the pond.
Beautiful, I thought, tilting my head up to look up into the dark sky. I closed my eyes, if I waited any longer I would lose my nerve. I sucked in my breath, desperately trying to taste the sweetness of summer one last time but it was too late. I tasted bitterness on my tongue and I felt it engulfing me, tainting the taste that I had wanted to savor. I gasped, inhaling fresh air, despair filled me at the thought that I would leave this world with my soul not at peace. I forced myself to believe that I could taste the final sweet taste of summer and it subdued my mind as I gently stretched my legs side to side before sliding into the water allowing the water to close over my face without panicking.
The water was colder as I floated underneath it. My dress seems tighter, constricting my gentle movements so I removed it, ripping it off my body before I really started to panic.
Peaceful. Peaceful. Peaceful. I chanted inside my head, all I wanted was to die peacefully. Something inside me won't allow that though, something rebels. I am rebelling.
I've never been a coward, why should I start now?
Because it hurts...
Suddenly loud ringing starts in my ears and I gasp stupidly, releasing the the little air that I had been holding onto. The water has changed, becoming insistent and dragging me down. The fear consumes me, I am really terrified to die. What happened to dying peacefully?
Just fight for your life. My conscience screams.
I desperately fling my arms back and forth, pumping my legs to swim to the surface of the water. I swim until I can see a glimmer of light in the dark water, the surface was just there but my body is weaker now. I can barely move because I've driven my body to exertion.
I am just about to reach the surface when my breath finally gives out and I am forced to swallow the water.
I've tempted Satan with my soul, now he is going to make me drown.
You were almost there, I couldn't help thinking as I began to jerk uncontrollably, the water inducing spasms of my larynx. Within 30 seconds, the laryngospasms begin to weaken and I'm losing consciousness. My life begins flashing before my eyes and as my brain skims through my wonderful childhood, it isn't long before I see Richard. He was my first best friend. My first love. My first everything and my life with him flashed.
Realizing that I loved him. Marrying him after high school graduation. The discovery of his infidelity in college. Choosing to stay and work through our problems. Graduating college with honors with him at my side. Pursuing a modeling career to help support us while he became stable. Then finally coming home tonight to discover that that infidelity had never ceased.
The pain of knowing that 10 years of my life had been wasted in a one-sided loveless marriage with a cheating prick did not hit me as hard as earlier. The pain was just gone, I had not loss much with Richard... only time.
Then my flashes stop and I see what could be, my life starting anew. Dating, a faithful relationship with the man of my dreams, having children in my little farm house. I want it so bad but it is just out of my grasp. The water is pulling me down, refusing to allow me to float just under the waterline anyone. I am sinking like a stone.
I know that brain failure is imminent but I also know that there is one last chance to survive.
My body forces me to inhale again and with that force, I propel myself upwards. I finally break the surface of the water, spitting up all that awful tasting water that I had pretended tasted so sweet. I climb out of the pond, looking down at the misleading peaceful looking waves.
I ripped off the remainder of my underwear hating the feeling of wet clothing on my skin, decidi
ng right then and there that I would never step foot in any large body of water ever again. I start my walk back to my home.
When I opened the door to the house and made my way pass the clothing, I smiled a very dark smile.
When I heard the wailing moans of my soon to be ex husband's "secretary" I walked my undressed hip directly to them.
I took a deep breath clearing the visual of them making love from my head. Oh, I had grand plans for these two adulterers.
And now I would not go silently.
I opened the door, walking in and pausing to watch them. They were making love, it was no question.
The door smacked the wall hard alerting them that I was here. Emily's shocked gasp filled the air.
I walked right past both of their startled figures, to my dresser where my phone was with a smirk. "Hey guys, smile for the camera!"
I turned on my camera, snapping pictures of them on the bed still frozen, both staring at me in shock.
"Nice." I commented before making my way to my walk in closet. "Please forgive the intrusion, I'll be on my way in just a sec." I grabbed a dress for the after party that I was now late for and made my way to the bathroom humming happily.
At the angle that I took the pictures, the affair was unmistakable. I smiled at them again when I passed. Emily now scrambled to grab the covers that they had kicked on the floor. I chuckled, I had already saw everything she had to offer, with the comforter out of her reach she was now using Richard to shield her and neither of them would make eye contact with me.
"At least own up to what y'all were doing, be adults about it. I'm not mad." I said.
"Vivian, I can-" Richard began to try to make that dumb hip excuse, with that dumb hip look on his face pissing me off. The nasal sound of his voice was pissing me off. Everything about him was pissing me off. What did I ever see in him? Love sure blinded the outta me if I was just noticing this now.
"Explain? No need to Richard, I see you both right now. Again, continue if you wish, I'll be on my way in a minute." I said, shutting the bathroom door and showering.
I thanked fate for allowing me to leave my phone home in order to discover the affair. I took my sweet time, going all out with my routine and appreciating the warm water after I had been floating in that cold hip water for close to 3 hours. I even started to sing, ignoring Richard when he knocked on the door calling my name.
After I got done I continued ignoring him while I dried, lathered myself with oils, and did my hair. my time was all my own again. My days of answering to him were over.
"Freedom," I sang, opening the door and pushing past him. "Why were you undressed? What do you mean you're not mad?" He was frowning at the dress that I had on. "Where are you going Vivian?" He asked.
"Not today, Richard." I said, ignoring his question. Both of them were now dressed and she sat on the perfectly made as if the affair had never happened.
"Vivian, I would like to apologize," She began as we made eye- contact. I could almost respect her, but she was the worst type of person. They both were.
"How long?" I asked her.
"About-" She began.
"Emily shut it, Vivian its not what you think. We-"
"Save it, Richard. I was speaking to Emily, woman to woman. Now, how long?" I said looking at her. I saw his disbelief that I had just cut him off. I had never did it before but then again, I had never disrespected him by cheating or even entertaining the thought either.
"About 4 years." Longer than I thought initially, but now that I thought back he had stopped attending my shows around that time.
"Wow, I hope you both have a good night.
I'm out." From the corner of my eye I notice Richard eyeing me. I turned getting him a 360 view of my dress and his face turned red. "Where are you going, Vivian?" He said it possessively.
"To have passionate intercourse with a random stranger, Richard." I could feel a hysterical laugh building inside me but I manage to hold in in, smiling instead. "Its only fair that I make up for all the intercourse I've been missing out on due to your negligence. Enjoy your secretary, husband. When we're divorced, feel free to marry her because when I'm done with you, nobody will come near either of you again." I said, leaving them dumbfounded.
I made a show of bending to grab my purse at the doorway, turning back to smile seductively at Richard.
I giggled, standing and holding my head high as I walked out of the house to my car. I had never been insecure of my body but since Richard treated me as if I'd been invincible, and not from a lack of trying on my part, for the past two years I had been questioning myself. I mean slowly losing my self confidence as the significant other.
Never again... Near death experiences had a way of making you see what really mattered.
My happiness.
Call me selfish or whatever. I have missed out and tonight I was going to make up for it.
Nothing could make me stay to work things out at this point, I was divorcing him. With the proof I had, I would destroy him then take everything that he had. I wasn't walking away from this 10- year investment empty handed.
Once, he told me that he would give me the world.
But I could settle with his bank account. Yes 2024-05-08 18:37 active 760 0 2123151324714605 🔥🔥 Click to Read 👉🏻👉🏻 He is not the male I thought he was. I refuse to fight for someone who can spit on all the effort I put into making him great.
"Don't walk away from me, Zell," Kosta yelled.
"Why not? You don't need me. You have Khalis here to take care of all your needs. She is welcome to you. I hope you all will be very happy together. As for me, I'm done. Good luck to you and this pack. I hope you can handle the fallout for you and your bimbo's actions."
____________

"So Kay, what did you want to talk to me about?" I ask.
Sapphire sits up. She is really interested in what Khalis has to say. I can feel her unease. Whatever this is about is not going to be good. Sapphire has been a little jumpy lately and is very protective. We just found out that we are pregnant after trying for the past 6 months. Kosta and I finally feel like we were in a good place since our pack is now ranked number 3 in the nation. I guess I should give Khalis my undivided attention and hear whatever it is she is pressed to talk to me about.
"Well Zel, I just wanted to let you know that I plan on being the Luna of this pack, and your days as Kosta's mate and luna are numbered. I have decided that I deserve to be luna of the third strongest pack in the nation. I mean why should you get everything and I get stuck with nothing?" Khalis says.
Is this bimbo serious? I just sat there staring at her for a few seconds. Not much shocks me, but this is something else. I knew Khalis was selfish, but this is on a whole other level. There have been rumors about Khalis sleeping with mated males, but I always gave her the benefit of the doubt. I never thought we would be having this kind of conversation. We have been friends since elementary school. Her father and brothers are elite warriors in my father's pack.
She was with me when Kosta declared we were mates. She even encouraged me to go with him when he begged me and my father to let me come to his pack with him before I turned 18. She moved to this pack with me, hoping to meet her own mate. She knows Kosta is my fated mate. The moon goddess chose for him me. We both have known Kosta for most of our lives.
Kosta is one of my brother's best friends. I keep thinking about everything we have done together and now this bimbo is sitting in my office telling me she plans to take my mate. I'm really speechless. This is a new low, even for her.
"Just so that I am clear, what exactly do you mean that you want my goddess-given mate and title," I asked.
"I mean exactly what I said. I want Kosta. I want to be his luna and I am going to make that happen. I've already started the process. I deserve to be a luna."
"So you just want to come in here and tell me that you want my mate? What about your own mate? Have you thought about that? If the goddess meant for you to be a luna, you would have been fated to an alpha."
"I waited for my mate. I gave the goddess a chance to do right by me. She gave everyone around me an Alpha. My sister got one, my little ugly cousin got one and even you got one, but what did I get? I got a lowly elite warrior as a mate." She spat.
"How can you speak like that about elite warriors? Your father and your brother are elite warriors."
"I know, and I deserve better than that. I deserve to be a luna. I deserve to have people respect me and cater to me."
"Well, obviously the goddess did not agree with you," I said. "Just to clarify, you're saying that even though you found your destined mate, the one that was made specifically for you by the goddess, you're still interested in my mate? You are unbelievable. What is wrong with you?"
"It's simple. I'm not meant to be the mate of a warrior. I am meant to be a luna. The moon goddess got it wrong and I am correcting her mistake. As soon as I scented my fated mate and realized he was a warrior, I rejected him and he accepted my rejection. Good riddance."
"So you think you know better than the goddess?" I asked.
I am still somewhat shocked. I have a hard time reconciling this cold-blooded bimbo to the person that has been my best friend for over a decade.
"Zell, I told you a long time ago not to trust her. She has always been this person. She just pretended with you." Sapphire said.
"This isn't personal, Zell. It's simple since the moon goddess did not give me an alpha, I'm going to take one."
This bimbo is sitting here calmly telling me she is going to take my mate from me like we are talking about going shopping. She actually thinks this is ok. How could I have been so blind for so long? Everyone tried to warn me about her, but she was my only friend and I just didn't want to believe that about her. I convinced myself that the others were just jealous of her.
"Do you really think it is ok to try to break your best friend's mate bond?" I say.
"Oh Honey, I'm not going to try. I'm going to do it. He will be mine. I'm just giving you the courtesy of walking away with your dignity. You might as well start making arrangements for yourself because once I am the luna, there is no way that I will let you remain in my pack. He may keep some tender feelings for you. After all, you are fated."
"You got one thing right; Kosta and I are fated. You are not the first she-wolf to try to break our mate bond and since he is an alpha, I'm sure you won't be the last. I will tell you what I tell them all, If you can get Kosta to cheat on our bond, you can have him. If he can do that, then he is not the man I have believed him to be and wouldn't deserve me. You would be welcome to him. Just remember, it is because of me and my family that this pack is ranked third. All of that goes with me, but you would be more than welcome to whatever is left." I say.
"It's not an if, it's a when it happens. And when you leave, Kosta will still be the alpha of this pack. You will just be the ex-luna of the pack. I will be the luna."
"That's where you are wrong. I am alpha born; a pure-blooded alpha. If I leave, I will still be an alpha and you will still be that bimbo on the side. Some males may be dumb enough to sleep with you, but I have not seen any of the mate men you've been accused of leaving their mates for you. Even the ones who got rejected didn't choose to be with you. Now I suggest you leave my office while I am still being nice or else you will find out why I am feared by others. And if you are successful, don't think for a minute that my family will let either of you go."
"I will leave for now. Enjoy this office while it is still yours. Your arrogance will be your downfall. Why should I fear you or your family? They have not even been around since your luna ceremony. I'll give you 1 week to make arrangements for yourself. In 7 days, all of this will be mine and you will be out. I will break you and completely disgrace you.
I have to thank you for working so hard to build this pack up for me to take over. I will be sure to enjoy the fruit of your labor. I and my children will enjoy this. I am glad he listened to me early on when I told him to wait to have children so you could live your life first. I had to set the groundwork just in case. Now it's time for you to go before you give him an heir." Khalis says and walks out of my office like nothing happened.
"What do you think, Sapphi? Do you think she really will get Kosta to cheat on our mate bond? Do you think Emil will let it happen?"
"I honestly don't know Zell. Last year I would have said that our bond was solid, but Kosta has been acting funny lately. Emil has been a little distant as well. Khalis is a little too confident. She is definitely up to something and Kosta isn't acting like our mate right now. Also, Jen, Khalis' wolf is mad at her about something that she won't tell me about."
"I'm sorry I didn't listen to all the warnings you were giving me about her. I should have never moved her with us. I invited that snake into our home. I open the door for her to get her paws on Kosta, but if he allows it, he does not deserve us."
"I Feel sorry for her mate and her wolf. They did not deserve what she did to them. But at least her fated mate will get a second chance mate. One much better."
"Zell, I think we should wait and see what happens before will tell Kosta about our pup. I would burn this whole pack if something happened to our pup."
"I agree Sapphy. We will do whatever we have to do to protect our pup."
Kosta has been questioning me a lot lately. It's like he woke up a different person one day. He suddenly lost trust in me, but I have never given him a reason to doubt me. I have found him outside of my door listening to business phone calls, which is crazy because he could just walk in at any time and join the conversation. I have never hidden anything I was doing from him.
The worse thing is that our sexual life is now nonexistent. Kosta is always too busy or too tired. His behavior has led me to believe that he is not attracted to me anymore. He had the nerve to ask me why I have been trying so hard to seduce him lately. Like he didn't just stop making love to me cold turkey all of a sudden. We went from making love every day, sometime multiple times a day, to nothing in over a month.
Seems like he should have been worried if I didn't try to seduce him. I don't know any mated pair that has gone this long without being intimate with each other. I don't know what the issue is. If we were not marked, I would wonder if he was cheating, but I know he is not. I would have felt it. Why did all of this suddenly become so hard?
Why do I even need to seduce my goddess-given mate? It was never supposed to be this way. At least not yet. I'm only 20 years old. Much too young to be going through a dry spell while mated.
I got so desperate at one time I asked our friends what was going on with him. Kosta tells his beta and gamma everything. I figured if there was a problem, they would tell me and I could fix it, but they just said that he was under a lot of stress. What exactly does he have to stress about?
The pack is doing better than it has been in years. In half a year, the pack will be self-sufficient again and won't need to depend on my finances to keep it afloat. I have everything set in motion for the pack to have more disposable cash and residual income. I have a feeling this has Khalis written all over it. Kosta appears to have fallen in line with her already.
Maybe this was their plan all along. Kosta needed me to get his pack back on track and now that they are almost completely independent, they don't need me anymore. If that's the case, they are in for a rude awakening. My six-month plan depends on me closing several more deals. All of these deals are allies with my father, uncle, and grandfather. They will not work with Kosta if our bond falls apart. He would erase everything that I have done over the past three years. Well, that would be his problem.
Since he has not been showing me any care, they are not either. That really hurts. I sacrificed a lot for this pack. I thought they cared more than this for me. I should just go back to my room. I don't know if I want to be around this pack right now, especially if they could turn their backs on me this quickly. Were they all just using me for my family's wealth?
"We need to eat Zell. Remember, we are eating for our pup as well. Don't let them win. We are better than this. If they show us they don't want us here, we will leave. Remember, we are alpha born. We will rise above this. We will go back to where we are celebrated. If they turn against us, they don't deserve us. We will sit back and let them destroy themselves."
"You are right Sapphire. Let's go eat. Our pup needs sustenance."
I went and cleaned myself up and walked to the dining room. As soon as I walked through the door, all the talking stopped. The whole place went silent. As I walked all the way in, I saw why everyone went silent.
Khalis was sitting in my seat, putting food on Kosta's plate like she is the luna. When she saw me, she just smirked and kept doing what she was doing. Kosta just keep eating like I was not standing there. Sapphire stared, pushing forward. She wanted blood. I did too, but I have to think about our pup.
"What is going on, Kosta? Why is she sitting in my seat feeding you?" I growled.
"I meant no harm, Zell. You were busy, so I decided to take care of Kosta for you. Someone needs to care for him while you are caring for other things. "
"I was speaking to my mate, not his bimbo on the side."
"You were not here for your mate, so I have been taking care of his needs."
Sapphire pushed forward and growled loudly. Everyone in the room bowed their neck to her.
"I could kill you in less than 30 seconds, Khalis. I would advise you not to keep crossing my line and you will find yourself very dead. You obviously have forgotten who I am. Don't make me remind you what my family name is," Sapphire said.
I regained control and looked at Kosta. He didn't even appear to be concerned. He didn't show an ounce of regret or remorse. That took a little of the fight out of me. Khalis can only do what Kosta allows her to do.
"Kosta, I asked you a question. What is going on?"
"As Khalis said, you were busy, so she came to do your job for you. If you spent more time catering to me, your mate, and less time working or whatever you are doing, Khalis wouldn't have to step in and take care of my needs." Kosta said.
I and every pack member gasped. I could not believe he openly disrespected me like that after everything I have done for him and this pack. I did all of that for him. This ungrateful prick.
"So now I'm working too much, making your pack financially secure? You were not complaining when the pack was bankrupted and I worked day and night just so you could feed the pack another day. I was working too hard then.
It's only now that you think the pack is out of the woods that I am working too hard. Now that everyone is comfortable and not at risk of starving, you want to change.
Ok, I see who you are now. So instead of appreciating the sacrifices I made for us and the pack, you are sitting here with your bimbo, enjoying the feast that my hard work made possible. I am glad I finally understand where your priorities lie. Trust me, I will never make the same mistake twice." I said and walked away.
I need to get out of here before I wolf out and kill one of them. After tonight, Khalis can have him. He is not the male I thought he was.
"Mind how you talk to me, Zell. I may be your mate, but I am still the alpha. As a matter of fact, as of right now, I am stripping you of all of your luna privileges."
"Alpha, what are you doing?" Beta James asked
"Mind your business Beta. This is my pack." Kosta says.
"Yes, and as your beta and friend, it is my job to tell you when you are making a mistake. Alpha, you are dangerously close to crossing the line of no return. Let's all calm down and discuss this later." Beta James said.
"Beta, my word stands. Zel, until you learn to respect me as your alpha, you can forget about representing this pack in any aspect. I will be instructing the security team to restrict all of your access. You are no longer the COO of our businesses. As of now, you are just a regular pact member with no power."
"First of all Alpha." I spat. "Respect is earned. While you are trying to throw your weight around, you can have the luna title back. I no longer want it. As for the business, have you forgotten that I own 51% of every business we have? I also provide 60% of the pack budget from my personal accounts. So while you can restrict my duties as Luna, you cannot touch the business, but I'll do you a solid. You can buy me out of the business and I will withdraw all of my personal finances from the pack."
I can see that he had forgotten how dependent his pack was on me, but oh well. He made his bed. Now he and his bimbo can lie in it.
"Oh, and Alpha, if you try to strong-arm me, I will have to call in the full loan that I gave this pack when we mated. Remember, we signed a contract for the loan. You have only paid me a small portion of the loan and I have not pushed the issue, but the contract is legal and binding. Don't push me, Kosta. You, of all people, know how ruthless I can be if pushed."
I walked off again and made it as far as the stairs. I realized that I could not stay in my current room anymore. There is no way on this goddess-green earth that I want to be in a room with Kosta. Not that he has really shared it with me lately. Now I know why. Khalis has been feeding him and he has been eating it up. They both miscalculated. They thought I would be leaving here with nothing. The jokes on them. I may have been in love, but there is no love in business. I may have put my all into saving this pack and making it independently wealthy, but my parents did not raise a fool and I protected my finances. I invested millions in this company and pack. Did he really think I would protect my money? Does he not remember the prenup my father made him sign since I was a minor when he brought me to this pack? He never gained control over my finances.
Khalis just showed her hand. After what I just saw, she has a right to be confident. Kosta has completely changed. He is not the man that I mated. He is not the boy that I followed around when I was younger. I don't know what happened or when he changed. Maybe this is who he really is and, like with Khalis, I just never saw his true self. He must have hidden it from my father and brother as well. There is no way they would have let me come here when I was 17 if they knew this was how he would end up treating me. I can see now that it is over between Kosta and me. I need to start planning my exit. I pulled up my computer and moved all of my finances from the pack accounts. I closed all the joint accounts I had with Kosta. It was mostly my money that financed them. I left the ones that he financed in his name. I don't want anything from him at all. After I handle business, I call my brother. I will need his help to leave here safely. Now that Kosta knows that all the money is still tied up with me, I doubt he will let me leave easily. I'm sure he and the bimbo are plotting up something.
I have all of my stuff moved to a guest room. Once I get settled, I pick up my phone and call my brother.
'Hi, baby sister." My brother says.
That's all it takes for the dam to finally break. I start crying my heart out. Zach keeps trying to ask me what is wrong, but I can't stop crying. After a few minutes, my crying finally slows down.
"What's wrong Zell? Who do I need to kill? I can call Uncle Jerry and we can be to you in 30 minutes. No one makes my baby sister cry. Where is Kosta?"
I pull myself together so that I can actually talk to Zach and let him know what I need from him.
"Sorry, big brother. It just hurts so much. Don't come right now. I'm ok. I just had to get that out. I have been holding it in for a while. Kosta stripped me of all my Luna privileges tonight after I walked into the dining room and saw Khalis sitting in the Luna chair feeding him. She apparently is taking care of all of his needs because I have been working too much and neglecting him."
"What the heck." Zach yelled, "I will kill them both!"
"Not yet Zach. I want to see how this plays out. Khalis told me that she wants Kosta and the luna position. She and Kosta are planning something to discredit me in the eyes of the pack. Zach, I'm pregnant and I have to think about my pup's future. I need to see this through and expose them for the low lives they are. I recorded my conversation with Khalis. The recording is on the private server you installed for me. I am keeping the camera's in my office even though I have been stripped. I need to gather as much evidence as I can get so that when this blows up, I can take my case to the council. He will either try to use my pup to get back at me or use him or her for personal gain, and I can't let any of that happen."
"So what's the plan, baby sis?"
"Well, I have already moved all of my personal money from the pack accounts. They are now responsible for themselves. I'm not sure how that is going to go over. I was covering most of the pack's budget. Tomorrow, I will contact my attorneys to protect all of my other assets. I also plan to call our allies and let them know that I am no longer associated with the pack. I am erasing everything I've done over the past three years. They will need to start over from scratch and rebuild it all on their own. There is no way they will get to enjoy my hard work. No, sir."
"Very smart Zell. What do you need me to do?"
"I'm going to need you, Uncle Jerry, and a few elite warriors here to help me leave safely. Khalis said she will have him in seven days. I don't know if I will be able to stay here for the whole seven days, but I need to stay for now. I want to give Kosta the benefit of the doubt. I want to know if there is any hope of us working it out in the future. Don't get me wrong, I am leaving no matter what because he completely disrespected me, but as of now, he has not broken our bond. As long as he doesn't, the door will be open for us to work through this in the future, but if she gets him to cheat on me, it is 100% over."
"Ok Zell, I will get with Uncle Jerry and we will have everything ready. You need to be ready to move at a moment's notice. I'm going to send a few of my elite warriors close to that pack in case something happens. They can keep you safe until I can get to you. I can promise you Kosta will regret hurting my baby sister. He has known me long enough to know that I will kill anything that hurts you. He better hope mom does not get to him before I do."
"I have already had all of my things moved to a guest room. All of the things I want are packed and ready to go. I may ship a few things ahead. Sapphire and I are both ready to leave.'
"I'm surprised Sapphire does not want to fight for her mate. Is she ready to leave Emil?"
"We are giving both of them a chance by still being here. Honestly, Zach, we have not had a relationship in over a month. Emil has not connected with Sapphire in just as long. Our bond is weakened already. If I wasn't with pup, I wouldn't even try."
"I understand, sis. I am so disappointed in Kosta. He was one of my closest friends. I entrusted my baby sister to him and he greatly let me down. I thought you were safe with him. He will pay for every tear that you shed. I promise you that. I'm going to call Uncle Jerry and get everything set up. I have six warriors already on their way to you. They will keep an eye on things and let me know what's happening."
"Ok. Love you, big brother."
"Love you muffin. Get some rest."
We get off the phone, and I finish doing all my business transactions. I need to make sure that my finances and shares are protected. I feel sorry for the pack members who will have to suffer because of a selfish she-wolf and a prick alpha. I wonder if Kosta knows how close the pack is to being bankrupt without the support of my family and my personal finances? I'm just glad that they showed their hands now before I had completely gotten them out of the hole. I guess since they were living better and had more luxuries; they thought the pack was in the black. Jokes on them. Hopefully, they finally decided I could go and live with Dad’s parents at the White Oak pack. I had been begging them to let me go for a year after all. I started asking them the day after David rejected me for being the runt of the pack.

I remember smelling him and recognizing him as my mate, I was beyond happy. Grandma’s words rang in my mind. “The Moon Goddess does not make mistakes in whom she pairs together.”

David was right. I had been the runt of the pack. Dad’s great grandmother was a rare human mate. Grandma was a werewolf as is my dad, his brothers, and sister. She was mated to my Grandpa Alpha Quinn and a very powerful werewolf. Dad is big even for a wolf. Everyone else in my family is either big or average-sized for a wolf. Then there is me, 5 ft 3. After shifting, I could pass for a regular wolf. I always knew that some pack members whispered behind my back. But I got lucky, Mom was the only pack doctor and after refusing to be Uncle Cedric’s Beta to move in with the Bloodtail pack, Dad became the pack’s lead warrior. They were well-respected. And the Alpha’s son and future Alpha was one of my best friends.

It at least stopped the other pack members from gossiping too much. So when I found out the morning of his eighteenth Birthday that he indeed was my mate, like I had been hoping for most of my life, and even more when I didn’t find my mate when I turned eighteen, nine months before he did, I was over the moon. I remember Willow my wolf going crazy when we sensed David walking up to us. And when he spoke the thirteen words no wolf ever wanted to hear, I felt my heart shattered as Willow closed herself off from me.

“I, David Birch, reject you Ayla Hemmig as my mate and future Luna.”

Rejecting me in the pack kitchen, so that everyone could hear. To make matters worse, he felt the need to explain why he would reject his best friend.

“You’re a sweet girl, Ayla. You would make an Omega very happy. But how could the runt of the pack ever be the Luna we need?”

Soon after, he started avoiding me, being short with me like it was my fault that his mate was the runt of the pack as he put it. Of course, this caused the other members of my pack to bully me. They respected my family too much to get physical but their words hurt too. That was why I wanted to live with my grandparents. Their pack was different, they would all accept me. As a small unmated wolf, I was sure I would never want a chosen mate. Second-chance mates are for those who lost their mate. Not wolves that got rejected like me.

Deep in thought, I made my way to the kitchen to join my parents at the kitchen table. Mom looked sad and Dad looked conflicted, he held a letter in his hand. Instantly I recognized the royal seal. So the rumors were true Crown Prince Griffin would pick a chosen mate. On his first Birthday, he got the mark showing his fated mate died before they met. In four years, he was supposed to rule the land and all the werewolf packs taken over from his father and mother. He needed a Queen by his side to do so. Rumors had been spreading he was inviting all unmated she-wolves from eighteen to thirty to come to a ball, where he would choose his chosen mate.

“The rumors are true. Prince Griffin is inviting all the unmated she-wolves between eighteen and thirty to come to the ball. We know you want to live with Grandpa Quinn and Grandma Emmy Sweetheart.” Dad started confirming what I was thinking as soon as I saw the letter.

“If you go to the ball, we will grant you permission and we will convince Alpha Phillip to let you move in with the White Oak pack.”

This was the best news ever. If I was not suitable as a Luna even as a fated mate, there was no way the Crown Prince would select me as his chosen Queen. The royal family lived closer to the White Oak Pack, so I might as well pack all of my belongings. Maybe I could convince Mom and Dad I could stay at the White Oaks a few days before. After all, it was only a few hours by airplane to get to SilverCreek where the Royals lived. I had never been there before and I was excited to go. I would be able to taste some new foods, and maybe even get some new recipes.

“You’re not saying anything, honey. Do you agree?” Mom’s voice pulled me back to the here and now.

“Sorry, Mom, I was daydreaming. I just got a little excited. Of course, I agree. I cannot wait to see SilverCreek.” I honestly told her.

My parents’ wide smiles hurt me a little. They were excited and happy because I seemed so open to giving this a chance. But all I could think of was going over to Jessa, so I could tell her. She was twenty like me and unmated too. My sister Kate named after our human great-great grandmother was nineteen and unmated. We would probably go together, the three of us.

Before I even asked, Dad chuckled telling me I could go and visit Jessa. Jessa and her parents were the only pack members who never treated me differently aside from my family, of course. I would miss them when I moved, but they could always come over and see me.

I rushed over to Jessa’s house and was welcomed by Jessa and her father Theo.

“Got the letter too, I see?” Jessa greeted me with a warm smile.

Unlike me, Jessa hoped to be picked by Crown Prince Griffin. Even when I pointed out that I doubted the future Queen of all the werewolves got to get away with her country-rock aesthetic.

“So are your parents going to take you? I doubt my parents can travel with us. Would they mind if we traveled together?” I asked her about traveling instead.

“Sweety, your parents, James, and I already discussed it. Of course, we are not letting two young she-wolves travel alone. We will go together, the four of us. And yes, we will stop at the White Oak pack.” Theo smiled at us.

“Wait, Mister Silver, you said 2 unmated she-wolves. Do you not mean 3? Isn’t Kate traveling with us too?” I had not seen Kate in the last 2 days, which was unusual, but if something happened to her, Mom and Dad would have surely told me. All the faces around me fell, and I knew something had happened to my dear sister.

“Oh sweety, has nobody told you why Kate hasn’t been home?” Theo said avoiding making eye contact.

“No, what are you guys talking about?” All kinds of scenarios flashed through my mind.

“Ayla, come to the packhouse now. It’s urgent.” My father mindlinked me, rousing me from thoughts.

###002 Ayla

Saying goodbye to Theo and Jessa, I raced to the packhouse.

“Of course, Kate can move into Cresent Moon pack with her mate Tim.” The moment I walked into the packhouse, I heard Alpha Phillip happily permit Kate to leave with her mate.

Kate rejoiced at the great news, arm in arm with the man standing by.

Knowing my sister was fine, I sighed out of great relief.

“Wait, you’ve found your mate?” With a questioning gaze, I mindlinked Kate.

Kate turned to me, nodding. Her face blushed with sparkles in her eyes.

“Thank you, Alpha Phillip.” Father bowed. He gestured for me to come over and added, “And Ayla is intended to go to the royal ball. Would you mind she moving to the White Oak pack after that?”

Alpha Phillip thought Father’s words over and looked at me. My heart skipped a beat under his intimidating gaze.

Finally, he broke the silence. “Honestly, I have no issues with Ayla going to the royal ball. But we all know the likelihood that the Prince will choose her as the Luna of all Luna’s is extremely small...”

Just like his favor for members of the pack going to live in another pack to form an alliance, Alpha Phillip was very interested in the prospect of one of the pack's unmated she-wolves becoming a chosen mate to the royal family as well. For him, it would be the ideal alliance, though he deemed me unworthy of being the future queen. He didn’t even try to hide his disbelief shrugging his shoulders as he told us.

“And tell me how it would benefit our pack if Ayla was not to return to us after the ball?” Alpha Phillip questioned Dad’s words bluntly. “There is already an alliance between the BloodMoon and White Oak.”

That was the problem. Alpha Phillip would never let pack members move to another pack if it didn’t benefit him. In most cases forming or strengthening an alliance would suffice. But I wasn’t about to move to my mate's pack. I was about to move to family, so no new relationships were built.

“Alpha Phillip, some pack members were laughing at Ayla after David rejected her.” Dad tried to reason with him. “It’s hard to see my daughter suffering.”

“And how would the future Luna feel if she was told that David’s fated mate was still living in the pack?” he continued.

“No worries. My son is making the greatest sacrifice known to wolves. He has selected a wonderful chosen mate. Her name is Hannah. She is a fine she-wolf, strong and polite. She will treat Ayla exactly like she has been doing ever since the rejection.” Alpha Phillip told us like he was reassuring a toddler that there were no monsters under the bed.

Was he that unaware of what was happening right under his nose or was he that uncaring? Not screaming about everything Hannah and her flying monkeys had done to me so far was already taking all of my self-control. Willow was already itching to take over control. I knew I shouldn’t.

I had been enduring the bullying, the beating, and the abuse for two years now. Now so close to escaping was not the time to mess it all up.

Easier said than done when David smirked at me, licking his lips before addressing his father like a good little Alpha in training.

“Can I give my opinion, Father?” He asked politely, and of course, Daddy dearest let him.

His pride over his son starting to pick up Alpha duties was all over his face.

With an evil smile, David started talking again.

“I do think the Hemmings put too much weight on my decision to reject Ayla. Every wolf with a sense of self-preservation would want a more suitable Luna. Pack members applauded me for the sacrifice I made in recognizing the Moon Goddess' only fault. Many seemed to thank for the mate bonds between me and Hannah.”

Right away, the air was thick with tension. Mom and Dad stiffened at the insult. His blatant disregard for me, my wishes, and the matebond we once shared that set everyone off.

“I guess she is allowed to stop by the White Oak before going the to royal ball then…” Dad pled. I knew there was nothing else he could do.

Alpha Phillip smirked. “Make sure Ayla comes back home after that.”

Father’s silent and quick acceptance of my fate hurt me.

“What was the point of going to the royal ball if I could not go to White Oak and get away from all these forever?” I murmured to myself in desperation and anger.

Yet Alpha Phillip sat there with a straight face telling me I was the she-wolf who made troubles to the pack.

My anger was taking over, and I needed to get these emotions out before they would get the better of me. Willow hadn’t stopped fighting to take control and it would be better to shift if I was still in control. Our wolves tend to react more primal and I had no doubt she would go over to David and fight him the second I was no longer in control.

Too upset with my parents, I mindlinked Kate where I was going, so that she would not worry about me. Then, I walked out into the forest, to one of the empty tree trunks where we could keep our clothes after shifting.

After checking no one was there, I shifted into my wolf form and just took off running. I’ve always loved running and it was the one thing I was better in because of my size. Being small made me faster and a lot more agile. I could outrun every wolf in my pack and most in the White Oak pack too.

The feeling of the wind rushing through my fair, the whizzing in my ears drowning all the other sounds out always made me feel peaceful. Feeling peaceful, calming down, and collecting myself was exactly what I needed now. The first few minutes it felt like someone was watching me. Once I got deeper into the forest, the feeling faded, so it must have been my illusion.

Sun was already setting. I had ignored every single family member that reached out to me over the mindlink. Now my limbs were aching, I was hungry, thirsty, and honestly exhausted.

When I finally reached the treetrunk where I stored my clothing, and was about to shift back to my human form, a huge wolf ran into me, throwing me onto the ground.

###003 Ayla

And of course, it is Hannah and her little band of four.

“What is it this time, Hannah?” I asked.

Not wanting to shift back to my human form, because I stood a better chance like this.

“I heard you are going to the ball hosted by the royal family. Do you really think you are fit to be the queen, the Luna of all Luna’s, if you are unfit to be the Luna of our pack?” Hannah scoffed.

I should have known it was her jealousy again. As I heard that David had told her he wanted to have her as his chosen mate. However, Hannah did not want to complete the mating process. Because she wanted to be unmated for the prince’s ball, hoping she would either be his second chance mate or his chosen mate, fully delusional that she had all it took to be the next Queen.

While I was not looking forward to this event, and I knew the Prince would never choose me. I did know that the royal family is seen as kind and fair. I imagine the future queen has to possess those same qualities, meaning it could never be Hannah. The smart thing was to keep my mouth shut. Not egg her on more. Shame, that I wasn’t wise, I was stubborn and I would never let anyone get away with offending me.

“You’ve got a lot of lips for someone who the Moon Goddess herself deemed barely worthy of an Omega. You think the royal family won’t see you for the garbage you are?”

In an instant, all five of them were on me, head-butting me and biting me. Scratching me with their paws. I tried hitting them back with my paws, but they were all over me and I could not defend myself sufficiently.

My body grew limp, but they didn’t stop. Their growls and snaps told me I was about to get more beating.

“What the hell do you think you are? Doing five against one?” An unfamiliar voice boomed through the forest.

I looked up to see someone wearing the royal sigil on his jacket.

Everyone shifted back to their human forms. Awkward tension filled the air. I was the only one who brought my clothes with me. So I quickly got dressed again.

Ignoring the royal sigil, either out of pure stupidity or pure arrogance, Hannah still bucked up in front of the man.

“Get lost! Who do you think you are? Even if you are a servant of the royal family, you have no right to interfere with our pack business.” Hannah warned the man.

“No wolf should deem themselves worthy enough to attack a single wolf in a group. Honestly, I don’t know if I am praying to the Moon Goddess that you are mated, so you won’t come to the royal ball. Or to pray you are unmated to spare other wolves from having a mate as horrendous as you are.” He scoffed.

The authority in his voice was not that of a low-rank wolf. In fact, it terrified Hannah. She faded away with her minions quickly.

“Are you okay?” He walked to me and helped me up, his eyes focusing on me with kindness.

“Still alive.” Gasping in pain, I slowly rose to my feet.

“Are you sure?” He asked, worries visible in his eyes.

“Yes~” The next second, I stumbled and fell back to the ground.

“No, you are not.” He chuckled, “Come on, let me walk you home.”

“Thank you...Um...” I stammered.

“Call me Dillion.” He introduced himself, holding me up and walking me out of the forest.

“Nice to meet you, Dillion. I’m Ayla. Thank you for saving me back there.” I smiled.

“No a big deal. As a return, would you please tell me how to get to Alpha Phillip. I am here to hand deliver the invitation for the Prince’s ball.” He asked.

“Of course not. It’s just a few blocks ahead.” I replied.

“And I know this is an offensive question in most cases, but I don’t see a mark on you. And you seem to be of age. Are you unmated or have you not completed the mating process yet?”

There was no malice in his questions. I could tell that from his gentle voice.

“I have been rejected by my mate. So I won’t be completing a mating process ever.” I answered immediately cursing myself.

Always speaking my mind had put me in trouble before. That is why some of the pack members believe me to be unfit as a Luna. They want someone poised and gentle, and Hannah does a far better job pretending she is than I do.

“Never say never.”Dillion winked and handed me the invitation.

I accepted it with a bright smile, not for the reason he might think. I was not excited to meet this Prince. But going to a fancy ball where I have to overdress at least presents me with a small break from the bullying and pain. It might be a good getaway.

I think I like Dillion. He seemed to be very down-to-earth. He reminded me of my great-uncle Nicholas. Funny, spontaneous but fair. When he walked me home, we chatted a little about the BloodMoon pack. He asked me how I had been treated here. No wonder he would do that after seeing all the bruises on my body when saving me from the five pack members. He picked up on most of the pack members whispering on our way to the packhouse as well.

I didn’t tell him anything. It was still not worth the trouble that would come from revealing this.

“Sis, I am worried. Where are you?” Daniel sounded agitated, so I excused myself to Dillion and mindlinked my brother back.

“Ran into Hannah but we got interrupted by a messenger of the royal family. I’m walking him over to the packhouse and will be home soon.”

“You’re close to your family. I take it. Would you ever be able to move to a different pack for a chosen or second chance mate?” Dillions asked me.

If it wasn’t for the beautiful intricate mark on his neck I would think he was flirting with me. Maybe he was just being nice, making me aware of the fact that I could find another mate. Or maybe he wanted to see if I had honest intentions in coming to the ball. Either way, I did not know him well enough to let him in on my plans or feelings.

“Part of being a wolf is the potential of needing to move to a new pack. I always know and I still do.” I gave the most non-committal answer I could think of before saying my goodbyes.

Coming home indeed exhausted the last bit of my energy.

My mother gasped the second I opened the front door, Kate and her mate ran to catch me, to stop me from falling over. Dad was growling about to shift when Daniel stopped him.

“This is what you allow to happen, she tried to protect all of us but this is what you’re letting them get away with”

Daniel has never screamed at either one of our parents, I was about to tell him not to, but the second I opened my mouth, blackness overtook me.

###004 Ayla
When I woke up, I was in my own bed, dressed in a set of PJs.

Mom sat at the end of the bed reading. It was a love we both shared but I could tell from her body language now that she was just skimming over the pages. Not really reading even though it seemed like she was trying to.

As soon as the sheet rustled as a result of my movement, she looked up with tears in her eyes. By now it was completely dark outside, so I must have been out for at least an hour, maybe even longer.

“Baby, are you okay? Why didn’t you tell us before?” Mom asked me while hugging me tightly.

I knew Hannah’s lashing out at me wasn’t their fault. I knew that if I had told them about what Hannah was doing, they wouldn’t have let her get away with it.

“I am okay, Mom. It’s all healing. I could not tell you and Dad because it would get you into trouble with Alpha Phillip. It is not your fault.”

She hugged me a little tighter, whispering how sorry she was in my hair.

I started to cry.

And then two more arms wrapped around me. The two arms I least wanted to comfort me now but still I could not help but sink into the embrace. Unable to keep on fighting because I had been doing that for too long now.

“Oh, sweetheart, I am so so terribly sorry for not seeing what was happening to you. Please forgive me.” Dad kept apologizing as he hugged me.

I knew I shouldn’t be angry with him. It was not his fault after all. It was my own choice to hide the truth from him. However, I was disappointed at the fact that he did not fight harder for me. He just shrugged and gave up when Alpha Phillips told them I could not change packs. That was why I didn’t want to talk with him now.

“I am so sorry. I never knew how bad it was. But I have discussed with your mother and I have made a plan.” He hugged me tighter.

“I know, Dad. But the least thing I want to see is you arguing with David and Alpha Phillip and leaving the pack. Alpha Phillip would never allow that. It will risk a war. You know Uncle Cedric would go to war over protecting his family.” I tried to comfort him.

“He would, and you’re his favorite niece who would have made it worse. Still, we could have talked about it as a family. Do you really think we wouldn’t be able to calm down and think this over before jumping into action?” Dad asked me, the hurt clear in his voice.

Making me feel worse, now I felt like I didn’t give my parents enough credit.

“So what? You would just keep living here with Alpha Phillip after you know what he allowed. You would accept Hannah as your Luna when she is the one who keeps beating our beloved daughter up so severely?” Mom’s voice got louder.

“No, I will never accept her, nor will I accept David. He isn’t going to be a better Alpha.” Dad said with a stern look.

“He is a coward. Without a lead warrior and a pack doctor, a young wolf like him would be much less likely to go to war with an experienced Alpha like your Uncle Cedric. But your cousin Sebastian is only nineteen. Your Uncle Cedric and Aunt Katrina are patient and will not hesitate to wait until we all move into the White Oak pack safely before changing the leadership within the pack.” He continued.

“We would play the waiting game, Ayla.” Dad looked into my eyes.

Playing the waiting game? What did that mean? Moving back to the White Oak pack when it would be safer or easier to do so? But I didn’t understand because Alpha Phillips had already denied me.

“For now, you will go to the royal ball. After that, you will go visiting your grandparents and stay with them there. And when the Silver’s come back, they will explain you got injured and need to rest at your Grandparent’s place. By then, he will know what his son and possible future Luna did and allowed. I will give him the chance to keep it under the rug, as long as he allows you to stay with your Grandparents for as long as you need.” Dad explained.

“What if Alpha Phillips doesn’t allow me?” I asked back.

“This might not be necessary if the Prince is smart enough to see how amazing you are, sweety.” Mom cut in.

I rolled my eyes. Deep in my heart, I know this would never happen. Hannah was right. How could I become the Luna of all Luna’s after I was rejected to be David’s mate?

With all those old memories flashing in my mind, I felt my head spinning.

Mom and Dad had noticed how dizzy I was. They settled me on my bed and forced me to take a good rest. It did my body good but I still had bruises and scars that hadn’t healed yet because my body was always busy healing fresh injuries. Now that everybody in my family knew I wasn’t as worried about keeping them hidden anymore.

The last week of staying with the BloodMoon pack has been weird. Even after I was getting much better, they hardly let me go out alone.

Getting bored, I started to pack. Sadly, I couldn’t pack a lot. Dad told me to pack only the essentials in toiletries and clothing so I could take more small personal things with me.

Mom promised me she would at least send all my books out in pairs of two. When both my suitcases were packed, I looked around my childhood room in the house where I grew up. It seemed like I was still living here because I was running away from home like an over-emotional teenager. To avoid being beaten daily, I pretended to be interested in marrying a prince.

“Ayla, time to go.” Mom’s voice came downstairs.

###005 Griffin
For the last few days, I had been waking up achy like I had been training too hard. Mom had noticed and she was worried about me. She thought I might have been overdoing myself in preparation for the royal ball. Probably because this is the first event I have gotten personally involved with.

I clung to the hope of finally finding her at this ball. I did more than hoping though. Just as I did the very first night after finding out that I had one final chance of meeting my second chance mate. I had been praying to the Moon Goddess every night, bringing her offerings. And I had sent every staff member available, whom I fully trust to bring the invitations personally. To both get as many she-wolves to come to the ball as possible, and to scope out the packs.

Slowly but surely I was getting sure of the fact that I would find my mate. Everyone around me said I had my head in the cloud. That I was a hopeless romantic and that I needed to consider the possibility of choosing a chosen mate. I had promised my parents and I am not someone that goes back on his word. But I will wait until the clock strikes midnight I do not find my fated mate before that time. Thinking of it, maybe I should stop thinking about her as my second chance mate. Maybe I should just refer to her as my fated mate. To not make it sound like she was second best, or a second choice.

I hated how I was reconsidering everything. It was just the pressure of finding her. Normally when you find your mate, you have the time to get to know each other before you complete the mating process. My parents wanted me to complete the mating process within a month. Meaning I had to convince a girl to move in with me, leave her own pack behind, and fully accept me as her mate within a month. Come to think of it with all of the stress about this, and all the extra work I was taking on. Maybe Mom was right. Maybe I was waking up sore and achy because of all I was doing.
Nervously looking around in my room, I was wondering whether I would just pick a different room for me and my mate to move into. Or should I move some of my personal belongings so my mate could have her personal stuff and make it our room?

“Your room is empty enough as it is, your highness.”

I turned around, happy to hear Dillion’s voice again. He could read me like an open book. He just got me, just how seeing my back. He knew I was doubting my room being ready enough for my Luna, my mate. He also was the last of my messengers returning from hand delivering the invitations to my ball.

“So, how was it?” I asked him, sitting down on the bed and signalling for him to sit down next to me.

“Words had spread quickly. All Alphas confirmed that there were quite a few unmated she-wolves from their packs and they were more than happy to attend the ball.” Dillion briefed me on the situation. “The number of guests that we expect will be nerve-wracking.”

“It would be all worth it if I can find my mate.” I scratched my head, laughing.

“I know you are praying for a fated mate, and you know I hope you find her, Griff. I want you to have the same happiness as I have.” He stated and I knew what he was going to say.

Dillion recently found his fated mate, a guy. He had confided in being attracted to both male and female wolves before. That never stopped him from being faithful to his mate. To wait until he met them. But it had made them nervous not knowing what he needed to look out for. Until he met Collin he had the moment I was dreaming of where he instantly knew who his mate was. Luckily Collin didn’t have an issue with moving to the castle. They had completed their mating process and were as happy as could be. Now that happily mated wolf sitting on my bed was about to tell me I should not hope to find what he had and choose a random mate.

“Moon Goddess knows that I want you to find her. But if you don’t meet a girl and I wouldn’t mind her being our queen. She seems right up your alley, too.” He teased me.

“By the way, I met a small yet brave she-wolf at BloodMoon. She never backed down despite being attacked by five other wolves. And the royal emblem on my coat didn’t change her attitude towards me at all.” He chuckled. “She is a little firecracker though. You need someone who helps you get your head out of your own ass sometimes.”

“The girl sounds like a fun person to be around. You know how much I hate wolves ganging up on others.” I commented. “Will she come to the ball?”

“Yes, I’d given her the invitation and she seemed to be interested in being part of it.” Dillion replied.

“Good. Don’t forget to point out who she is at the ball. I’d like to meet her.”

“Okay, but only at the end of the night.” Dillion continued, “And one more thing, she has been rejected by her fated mate.”

Dillion’s words surprised me. I could not help wondering the reason behind her rejection. I could not imagine someone being rejected by the person the Moon Goddess arranged for her. Being rejected by her fated mate? She might have done something terrible.

“Imagine getting rejected, that must be the worst feeling in the world, even worse than finding out your mate has died before you’ve met them,” I said out loud.

More to myself than to Dillion. It gave me another thing to worry about.

“What if I find my fated mate at the ball, but she rejects me?” I asked Dillion, worries all over my face.

Dillion shook his head, chuckling. “Stop panicking, bro. Everything will be fine. You could not be praying to the Moon Goddess while doubting her picks for you!”

“Yes, you’re right.” I tried to calm myself down. “But what should I do now?”

The rest of the day, against Dillion’s advice, I cleared out more personal stuff from my room, hoping my mate would feel welcome enough to put her own stuff in our room. It was the last thing I needed to settle before the ball. So now, all that was left to do was count down the last five days until the ball, praying and bringing my offers to the Moon Goddess Selene. What matters is that I’m here to help." Charles tapped his cufflink, his gaze steady and serene as he watched Noelle.
He was her guardian angel in her darkest hour. "Marry me. I'll bring you unimaginable happiness!"
————————

Autumn had painted Brookville in shades of gold and crimson when Noelle Shaw stepped off the plane. She grabbed her suitcase and walked out into the crisp air, a familiar sense of home wrapping around her.
A whole year had passed since she left to pursue a corporate training program overseas, and now, she was back just in time.
Her third anniversary with her boyfriend Xavier Harris was just days away, and she had been working nonstop to make it back early enough to surprise him.
She hailed a cab and headed straight for Xavier's office. The moment she walked through the front doors, Alice, the receptionist, gave her a look of total shock. "Ms. Shaw? You’re back? Are you here for the CEO's engagement party?"
Noelle's brow creased in confusion. "The CEO's engagement party? What are you talking about, Alice?"
"It's Mr. Harris's engagement party with your sister!"
"What?" Noelle's heart skipped a beat, and the happiness drained from her face. "Whose engagement party?"
Alice seemed to realize she had dropped a bombshell and nervously swallowed. "The CEO... and your sister..."
"Where is it happening?"
"The... Golden Oasis Hotel."
It felt like a punch to the gut. Noelle spun on her heel and rushed out. "Driver, take me to the Golden Oasis Hotel, please."
She had not even made it inside the hotel when she saw a huge photo by the entrance. There Xavier was with his arm around Winter Shaw, who looked stunning in her elegant dress. They were gazing into each other's eyes, lost in a world of love.
On her way over, Noelle was psyching herself up. Xavier was her boyfriend. He was hers! The idea of him getting engaged to her sister was just too bizarre. As she arrived, however, reality hit her like a ton of bricks.
She walked in just in time to catch Xavier whispering sweet nothings into Winter's ear, making her cheeks turn a rosy pink.
Noelle felt a surge of anger, her eyes blazing with fury.
How ludicrous it was. Her boyfriend of three years, the one she had been with through thick and thin, was now cozying up to her elder sister while she had been miles away.
Winter Shaw was mingling and toasting with the guests arm in arm with Xavier when she spotted Noelle. Her face drained of color, and her grip on Xavier's hand tightened without her even realizing it.
Xavier's eyes met Noelle's. He paused for a split second, then flashed Winter a comforting smile before walking over to Noelle. "Hey Noelle, did you come to celebrate me and your sister's big day?"
His voice, which was usually so warm and gentle, felt like a knife twisting in her heart. Noelle clenched her jaw. "Celebrate? Celebrate you stabbing me in the back? And Winter, really? Are you that desperate for a man? You knew he was mine, and you... you both..."
Before she could finish, a slap snapped her head to the side, leaving her cheek throbbing.
Holding her face, tears brimming in her eyes, she looked up in disbelief. "Mom!"
"Don't you dare call me 'mom' right now! What kind of daughter or sister acts the way you're acting? It's your sister's engagement, and you can't even be happy for her? Instead, you show up here to make a scene. You're doing this on purpose, aren't you?" Jade Jones was fuming, her eyes shooting daggers at Noelle.
Noelle's heart clenched. "Mom, what are you even saying? Xavier's my boyfriend."
"Your boyfriend? Xavier is your sister's husband. Why do you have to challenge your sister for everything? I’m so disappointed in you."
Noelle could not help but laugh. She stared at her mother, Jade, who had the nerve to twist the truth so blatantly. She turned to Xavier. "Xavier, come on. Tell us who you're really dating."
His brow creased, his gaze on Noelle filled with uncertainty. The firm grip he felt, however, brought him back to the moment. "Noelle, I'm sorry, but there's only ever been one person for me, and that's your sister."
Noelle's heart felt like it was being sliced open as she listened to Xavier's emotionless confession.
What a joke! What bitter irony!
"Xavier, you’d better get this straight: it's me who's dumping you, not the other way round." It took all her willpower not to lash out at the cheating couple. "I hope you two have a long, 'happy' life together," she spat.

Noelle bolted from the hotel, her previously defiant face now streaked with tears.
Out of nowhere, a black Cayenne screeched to a halt, its tires screaming against the pavement. Caught off guard, she tumbled to the ground.
The driver gulped, his eyes darting to the man in the back seat, "Sir... Sir?"
The man in the back, unfazed by the nearby accident, merely glanced at the passenger seat beside him. "Ronald, go see what happened."
"Right away, sir." Ronald was out of the car in a flash, checking the front for any damage.
About six feet ahead of the car, a woman sat on the ground with her eyes wide open, looking totally freaked out. Her cheeks were streaked with tears, and she had obviously been crying. "Miss? Are you okay? Do you need a ride to the hospital?"
Noelle was scared out of her wits. She just gazed at Ronald, lost in shock, until she finally managed to pull herself together and stand up. Without a word, she tried to sidestep him, eager to get away.
Ronald was puzzled by her reaction. "Are you sure you're alright? Do you need any..."
"I... I'm fine, really, I'm okay." Noelle's eyes darted to the black Cayenne. She could not shake off the feeling that someone was watching her, and it sent shivers down her spine. She scowled, hating the feeling, and hobbled away as fast as she could.
Ronald watched her go, confused. He wanted to stop her, but she was dodging him like he was bad news, leaving him speechless.
Back in the car, Ronald noticed the man in the backseat craning his neck to watch the woman through the window. "Sir, we're at the hotel. Do you want to head straight in, or would you like to get out here?"
The man, Charles Hoffman, did not say a word, and Ronald did not dare to make a move.
Watching the petite figure disappear into the distance, Charles let out a slight smirk and tapped his finger against his knee in a steady beat. "Let's head back!"
Ronald was taken aback. "But sir, isn't today..."
Before he could finish, Charles cut him off with a piercing look. "The show's over. There's nothing left to see," Charles said, his words heavy with implication. "Ronald, you seem to be losing your touch."
The Majestic Lounge was Brookville's hotspot, its lights blazing and music pumping every night. Noelle's friend, Rowena Smith, always said it was the prime spot for a wild time after dark.
Noelle was not one for these scenes, but tonight, she was hunched over the bar, downing drinks as if there was no tomorrow. She peered at the sea of unfamiliar faces swirling around her through half-closed eyes.
"Hey there. Did you come here alone?"
A hand clamped onto Noelle's shoulder, the stranger's touch lingering a bit too long. Noelle jerked away, revulsion coursing through her. "Back off."
The guy shot a knowing look at his buddy and smirked at Noelle. "Feisty, aren't you? Back off? Ladies like you just play hard to get, secretly hoping for some attention."
He moved in as if to plant a buss on her, but Noelle shoved him back and stood up, her stance unsteady and her heart racing. She shook her head, trying to clear the fog. "I said back off! Is that so hard to understand?"
She stumbled, nearly toppling over, but the man caught her, his arm snaking around her waist. "See, you’re saying no, but your body's telling a different story."

Trapped in the man's grip, Noelle struggled to break free, her body refusing to cooperate. Her vision was blurry as she glared at him. "What are you trying to do?"
"Just having a bit of fun..." He chuckled, his voice dripping with sleaze as he steadied her. "Let's go somewhere more entertaining, shall we?"
Noelle might have been out of it, but she could still sense the danger in the man's tone. However, her whole body ached, and she knew she was no match for them. She scanned the area for anyone who could help her, but she was invisible to the passersby.
She spotted a figure approaching through her haze. Acting instinctively, she shoved the two men aside and bolted, slamming right into the newcomer. "Save me!" she gasped.
Her fingers dug into the fabric of the man's shirt, and she inhaled a sharp, clean scent. "Please, save me," she pleaded.
Charles squinted, taking in the woman who had just collided with him. There was a flicker of something sharp in his gaze.
Noelle did not let go, pressing herself against him. Her lips, tainted with the strong smell of booze, were inches from his face, and her cheeks were unnaturally rosy.
"Sir..." Ronald, who was standing a few steps back, watched in disbelief. She had the nerve to approach Charles, yet he was not pushing her away?
Charles shot a cold look at the two men harassing Noelle. "Time to leave, don't you think?"
"You… Who do you think you are? Do you even know who I am? I had my eye on that girl," one of the men blurted out.
Charles smirked and let out a soft laugh. "You laid a hand on her? Which hand was it? Show me!"
The courage of the other man drained away when he met Charles's icy stare. "Uh... Mr. Hoffman, we didn't realize who you were. We... we haven't touched her, not at all," he stammered, realizing they were in deep trouble.
"Ronald," Charles shot him a look before scooping Noelle into his arms like she was the heroine in some epic romance, “give these guys a lesson they won't forget. Make it clear that The Majestic Lounge isn't for scum like them."
With Noelle in his arms, Charles spun on his heel and left. Ronald gave a curt nod. "Understood." A sly grin spread across his face as he faced the two troublemakers. "So, which one of you was it that touched the lady?"
The two guys exchanged panicked glances, too scared to utter a word. Ronald let out a mocking scoff. "What, did both of you touch her? Mr. Hoffman wants to let you keep a little bit of your offending hand as a souvenir."
They dropped to their knees with a thud, as pale as ghosts, begging, "Please, have mercy! You can't do this. My dad is a big shot at Evergreen Group..."
Meanwhile, Charles, with Noelle in his arms, was like a walking iceberg.
Noelle felt she was being drained of blood and eaten alive by a swarm of ants. She whimpered, overcome by a wave of dizziness, "It's so hot..."
Charles glanced down at his shirt, which was now a mess thanks to Noelle, and his gaze frosted over. He held her tighter and picked up the pace to the elevator.
Though she was barely conscious, she caught a glimpse of the man's strong profile. The chill from his body was oddly soothing, and she snuggled closer without thinking. Charles's eyes darkened just as the elevator doors slid open, and he stepped out into the unknown.

At the top of The Majestic Lounge was a room that belonged to Charles alone. He swung the door open and carried Noelle in. She was feeling so awful that she hung onto Charles like she was trying to meld into him, her limbs all over the place with nary a hint of elegance.
He managed to detach Noelle from himself with a bit of a struggle and gently placed her in the bathroom. Taking a deep breath, he dialed Ronald’s number. "I need ice, and make it quick."
Once he ended the call, he saw Noelle trying to get out of the tub. He gently but firmly pushed her back down and turned on the cold tap. "Stay still!"
His voice was firm and grew even more intense as he noticed how the water in the tub accentuated her figure. His gaze sharpened.
Ronald was fast, arriving shortly with two buckets of ice. "Here's the ice, sir."
"Hold on," Charles instructed Ronald. "Just set them down and leave, thanks." His tone was cool and detached.
Ronald raised an eyebrow at Charles's unusual sternness. However, he kept his thoughts to himself and left as told.
Once alone, Charles brought the ice buckets into the bathroom.
Noelle was submerged in the icy water, her body shaking uncontrollably. Her mind was still foggy, and Charles's expression was grim.
Noelle was burning up inside, feeling like she was on the brink of collapse. The icy water was a harsh contrast to that, enveloping her in a torturous chill. She squirmed in agony, but Charles's hands kept her steady, and his voice cut through the haze. "Hang in there. It'll pass soon."
...
Noelle's eyes fluttered open, her body feeling sore and like it had forgotten how to function. She lay still, gazing up at the stark white ceiling. As the fog in her brain slowly lifted, the memories of last night started to play like a movie in her head.
Her face drained of color as panic flickered across her features. She flung off the covers and was relieved to find herself in pajamas, untouched. Still, that aching... where did it come from?
"You're awake?" A chilly voice cut through the silence, and Noelle's head whipped toward the door. There she saw a man clad in cool elegance and fancy threads who was obviously not your average Joe. His face was so drop-dead gorgeous that even a beauty queen would swoon at him.
Noelle's brow creased in confusion. She did not know this man. As the reality of her situation hit her, she blurted out, "Who are you?" Her voice sounded so harsh and grating that it scared her. The words came out as a dry, quacking mess.
Charles arched an eyebrow, not bothering with an answer. He strolled over, poured her a glass of water, and handed it to her with smooth and elegant hands.
Noelle was taken aback for a second but then grabbed the glass, downing the water with an eagerness that bordered on uncouth. Once the glass was empty, she eyed Charles suspiciously. "Are you the one who rescued me?"
He did not say yes or no, but Noelle let out a relieved breath. "Okay. Thanks for whatever you did last night." She glanced down at her clothes, a silent question hanging in the air, and her expression turned to one of confusion. However, her gratitude remained evident despite the puzzlement.
Charles's gaze landed softly on Noelle's face, his mind replaying her stunning presence from the night before and stirring something within him. "It’s all good, Ms. Shaw. Don’t worry about it," he said, sidestepping the potential embarrassment with a smooth deflection.
Noelle bit her lip, fighting the urge to say more. She would have to deal with the fallout and act like this whole mess never happened. Then, it hit her. "How did you find out my last name is Shaw?"
"Surprised? There's been a lot of buzz about a Ms. Shaw today. Have you not heard?" Charles said, casually fiddling with his cufflinks, looking the picture of cool.
Noelle's face drained of color. "What... What are you talking about?"
"There are many versions of your story. Which one do you want to hear?"
"Who are you, really? No 2024-05-08 18:36 active 760 0 978006536845197 🔥🔥 Click to Read 👉🏻👉🏻 I turn and meet his gaze.
It’s at that moment, as I stare into the blue eyes of one of the biggest rockstars in the world, I realize my life is going to change forever.
I don’t know how, but instinct tells me, by the end of this wedding, Eric and Addie won’t be the only ones making love.
Ace Flanagan, I wonder. Do you feel the same?
--
The bride and groom are onto me. Sure, I’m here to enjoy their wedding, but who says I can’t enjoy my time here as well?
All I did was switch seats at the party to be next to Addie’s sister—what’s the big deal?
Laney’s a grown woman who can take care of herself. Laney Michaels. Just the sound of her name gets my mouth watering.
She’s exactly my type. Artsy, intelligent, and hot . The fact she’s a little shy only makes me more intrigued.
I know I promised Addie I wouldn’t pursue her sister, but so far, I’m not breaking any promises.
Just being friendly.
And if Laney decides she’d like to pursue me…well, that’s a whole ’nother story.
————————

"Addie, help!There’s blood everywhere"
"what are you talking about?"
"What if it’s the baby? It’s too early!!I’m freaking out!"
"your gonna be ok, sis!“
”i’m calling an ambulance rn.“
”call ace.he needs to know.“
”NO! Anyone but Ace!"
"laney.he’s the father."
"I thinaasdk im’ gokjn to faintt"
"laney!"
"laney?!?!"
"laney!!!! answer me!!!!"
I’ve been preparing for this moment for the past six months. But it wasn’t supposed to happen like this.
Instead of my water breaking, I’m lying in a pool of my own blood on a creaky staircase.
Instead of nine months, it’s only been seven and a half.
Instead of having the father by my side, I’m completely and totally alone.
I’m terrified. Black dots obscure my vision. I don’t know if it’s the blood or something else, but I can feel my consciousness slipping.
I can’t believe it’s come to this. What if my baby doesn’t make it? What if our baby doesn’t make it?
I think of Ace, I think of how we met, I think of how we sleep and, in turn, made this inevitable future unfold. And I think, as my eyes roll back…
Would Ace care if we lost it all?
What is one baby to the biggest rockstar in the world?
Where are you, Ace Flanagan, father of my child?
Where are you?
--
^SEVEN MONTHS EARLIER^
So, this is how a rockstar marries a supermodel.
I’m hiking up a small trail, following fifty guests to a private reception in the California mountains. Even in October, the weather is sweltering. Way too hot for a Chicago girl like me.
I worry I’m going to sweat right through this bridesmaid’s dress. But for Addie? For my twin sister? I’ll do anything.
When we finally reach the clearing, my mouth drops in awe. Shimmering lights hang from the towering redwoods all around us, illuminating the tree line with a pink glow. An altar decorated with hundreds of flowers waits at the end of an ivory-blanketed aisle.
If ever there was a fairy tale wedding, this must be it.
When Addie told me the wedding was going to be private, I didn’t realize she meant this private. The cost of being famous, I suppose.
I see Melody, Addie’s personal assistant, best friend, and maid of honor.
“Melody, everything looks amazing!”
“Thanks, Laney,” she says, grinning nervously. “I just hope Addie is satisfied. It really should be you giving the toast, not me.”
I shrug, bashful. The truth is, I’m beyond grateful Melody is taking that responsibility. I’ve always suffered from stage fright. Shied away from the spotlight. That kind of attention?
It’s just not for me.
Which is funny, considering my sister’s face is plastered across magazines, internet gossip blogs, and entertainment news 24/7. She was famous before she got engaged to Eric Flanagan, lead singer of Vagabond, America’s biggest rock band. But now?
The two of them can’t go anywhere without someone snapping their photo.
That’s why they’re having their wedding here, in the middle of the forest, with only fifty guests. Still, even this kind of celebrity wedding, with movie stars and singers and influencers left and right, is a lot for an introverted artist like me.
As I sit down in the front aisle, I find myself dreaming of my Chicago studio and the paintings I’m dying to finish. Which is when I hear his Brooklyn-accented voice for the first time beside me.
“Mind if I sit here?”
I turn to see a dark-haired, muscular, drop-dead gorgeous specimen of a man with a slightly reddish beard and eyes so deep and blue, you could swim in them.
Somehow, his voice and face strike me as familiar. But how? I’m not sure.
“Go ahead,” I say, realizing I’m staring.
He sits down beside me in his fitted black suit, and I can’t help but admire his figure. Tall, fit, the kind of man who gets whatever he wants, I can just tell.
“Do you know the bride or groom?” he asks.
I look into his eyes and see how they wander over me, from my short, black lace dress to my legs to my pink suede ankle boots.
“Well,” I say, “Addie and I are very close.”
“How close?”
“So close we actually shared a womb… We’re twins.”
He looks surprised, so I elaborate a little bit. “Fraternal.”
A lot of people give us that look when Addie and I say we’re twins. With her brown hair, green eyes, and tall supermodel body, and my strawberry blonde hair, grey eyes, and curvy hourglass body, we couldn’t look more different.
Now, I find myself curious about this handsome stranger beside me. How does he know the bride or groom?
“You must be a friend of Eric’s?” I ask.
“You’re joking, right?” he responds, taken aback.
“I’m sorry?”
“I’m in Vagabond with Eric,” he explains, grinning. “I play lead guitar and sing backup mostly, occasionally lead vocals.”
That’s how I recognized him. ~Of course~. I’ve been so behind the times, barely watching TV, listening to the radio, or using my iPhone for anything but making calls and taking photos, I didn’t notice.
I blush, embarrassed. “I’m sorry. You must think I’m a complete idiot.”
“Not at all,” he says. “It’s refreshing. To actually meet someone.”
“So, you’re…”
“Ace Flanagan, Eric’s cousin.”
We shake hands, and at the feel of his calloused fingertips, I can tell how dedicated he is to his craft. I wonder what else he can do with those hands.
“And your name is…?”
“Oh, I’m Laney,” I say, suddenly feeling self-conscious. “Laney Michaels.”
“Laney Michaels,” he says, testing it on his tongue. “Has a nice ring to it.”
He’s flirting. That much is obvious. But, for some reason I can’t fathom, I don’t mind. I know I should tread carefully. Rockstars have their reputations for a reason. And yet…
“So, you know what I do,” he says. “What do you do, Laney?”
“I’m an artist.”
“Anything I’d know?”
I shake my head. “Probably not. I do a lot of murals for schools and other buildings around the area where I live.”
Something about this answer seems to light up his eyes. It’s hard to stare into them for too long. Like staring into the sun.
I look away just as a bell is rung, and we turn to see Eric, the groom, walking down the aisle.
“Here we go,” Ace says.
I let out a deep breath, grateful the wedding has interrupted our conversation. As much as I’m enjoying talking to Ace, something about the way he carries himself, his fame—it intimidates me.
And I’m not here to be intimidated. I’m here for my sister. I’m here to be her only family on the day she’s about to marry the love of her life and start a whole new kind of family.
As Eric walks down the aisle, he looks every bit the rockstar, even in a tux. His blonde hair, slicked back, his brown eyes sparkling with mischief. He winks at me as he walks by, and I wonder how it is I’ve never met his cousin, Ace, before now.
Then, I see my sister walking down the aisle and my heart feels like it’s going to burst I’m so happy for her. In her white designer dress, a mix of retro and chic, Addie’s never looked so beautiful. The smile on her face is one of pure joy.
Holding her arm, walking her down the aisle, is Michael, our social worker from when we were kids. That difficult childhood, full of foster homes after our mother left us outside the firehouse with nothing but a note, feels so far away now.
Were it not for Michael and his kindness, who knows if we would’ve ended up here?
At last, as Addie takes Eric’s hand, the ceremony begins.
It feels like it goes by in a flash. Before I know what’s happening, she’s leaning in to peck Eric, they’re husband and wife, and it’s over, just like that.
I can’t believe it.
“ those two are beautiful,” I hear that Brooklyn accent mutter to my left.
I turn to look at Ace Flanagan. To my surprise, the man has tears in his eyes. A rockstar, crying at a wedding? I never thought I’d see the day.
I hand him a tissue from my purse, and he laughs, shaking his head.
“I must look ridiculous.”
“Far from it,” I say. “Like you said. It’s refreshing.”
“To see a grown man crying?”
“To see someone not afraid to show emotion in public.”
“That’s what I do for a living, Laney,” he says. “That’s what we both do. We’re artists.”
“I suppose that’s true.”
I turn back to look at Eric and Addie holding onto each other, grinning like there’s no one in the world but them. He spins her around, and I feel my heart flutter.
I wonder if there’ll ever be a man who looks at me the way Eric looks at Addie.
Which is when I realize Ace Flanagan is still staring at me.
I turn and meet his gaze.
--
ACE
The bride and groom are onto me. Sure, I’m here to enjoy their wedding, but who says I can’t enjoy my time here as well? All I did was switch seats at the party to be next to Addie’s sister—what’s the big deal?
Laney’s a grown woman who can take care of herself. Laney Michaels. Just the sound of her name gets my mouth watering.
She’s exactly my type. Artsy, intelligent, and charming as all. The fact she’s a little shy only makes me more intrigued.
I know I promised Addie I wouldn’t pursue her sister, but so far, I’m not breaking any promises.
Just being friendly.
And if Laney decides she’d like to pursue me…well, that’s a whole ’nother story.
She sits back down with a stiff drink—bourbon, by the looks of it—and I raise an eyebrow, impressed. “Good taste,” I say, nodding.
She shrugs. “I hate sweet drinks.”
“That makes two of us.”
I raise a glass—straight gin in mine—and we toast, both taking a sip, eyes lingering on each other.
“So, what does a rockstar think of a boring party like this?” she asks.
I look around. The band’s playing Sinatra. People are swaying on the dancefloor. It’s typical wedding stuff and, Laney’s right, not my kind of thing. But I don’t mind it right now.
“Can’t always be partying hard,” I say. “People think that’s all we do on the road. But it’s a lot of physical, grueling work.”
“Yeah, you got it so bad,” she teases, and I find myself laughing.
“What about you, Laney?”
“Oh, I don’t go out much at all. I prefer to be painting.”
“So, how do you find time to date?”
She blushes, taking another sip. And I know I’m pushing it regarding my promise to Addie. So I hit the brakes.
“My bad,” I say, shaking my head. “Sometimes, I can’t help myself.”
“From flirting?”
I stop, eyeing Laney up and down. This is forward, especially for an introvert like her. She seems just as surprised by her own nerve.
“Is that what I’m doing?” I ask.
“I wouldn’t know,” she admits. “But I wouldn’t…take offense…if you were.”
That’s about as bold an invitation as I’m gonna get when it comes to this girl. I scoot a little bit closer toward her, feeling her body stiffen in response.
“So, if you don’t take offense,” I respond quietly, “why not answer my question? How do you find time to date?”
“I don’t,” she says. “Not often.”
“Because you don’t want—”
“No,” she cuts me off. “Because I haven’t found the right person.”
And now, from the way her eyes meet mine, I understand what she’s saying. Just because she’s shy doesn’t make her prude. And those eyes are screaming to be taken.
“What about you?” she asks. “Many girlfriends?”
Again, I am surprised by how little Laney knows about me. No, I don’t have girlfriends. I have “friends” who happen to be women and who I happen to please occasionally. And vice versa.
You would think Laney would know that. The media’s always circulating photos of every new side-piece on my arm. Especially now that Vagabond is selling out stadiums around the world.
A girl this oblivious is rare to come by. In fact, she may just be one-of-a-kind.
“I don’t have a girlfriend at the moment,” I reply, watching her carefully.
Laney bites her lip, and, I can feel myself hardening just at the implication of that bite. Oh my lord, am I in trouble.
“Do you want to maybe…?” I start, and I don’t need to finish, because Laney’s grabbing my hand and we’re hurrying out of the party as fast as we can.
Don’t hate me, Addie, I think. But how can I help myself?
laney
where are you
you better not be where i think you are
LANEY
I had a feeling this was going to happen. From the first second I laid eyes on Ace Flanagan, I knew…he wasn’t just another guy.
Now, as he pushes me against the hotel door, blue eyes looking wild, I can see what makes him a rockstar, all right. The man is absolutely magnetic.
And, does he know how to keep a girl in suspense. He keeps teasing me with his lips, pecking me anywhere but my mouth. I finally grab him by the neck.
“peck me already,” I demand.
And thankfully, this time, Ace does.
ACE
Nothing in the world has ever felt as good as Laney’s lips on mine. As I peck her softly, I look into those gray, endless eyes, knowing I could write a million songs about ’em, and they still wouldn’t do her justice.
While I peck her, I fumble with the hotel key, sliding it in, unlocking the door, and pushing both our bodies inside. She presses me against the wall, a more proactive partner than I could have possibly imagined from her shy girl act.
And now, she’s pecking me fiercely, gripping my arms, moaning softly as she presses against me, rubbing and fondling everywhere a man wants to be touched.
Laney yelps in surprise as I pick her up and throw her on my king-size bed.
LANEY
As I land on the bed, every thought in my mind disappears, and all there is this moment, here and now.
I need him.
I want him.
Now.
“Take off your shirt,” I tell him.
Ace, aiming to please, unbuttons his dress shirt. Slowly. Too slowly. I sit up to help him, racing to finish with the buttons, unbuckling his belt next. I am restless for him, and he can sense it.
“Your turn,” he says, in a low, raspy breath. “Take that dress off before I rip it off.”
I like that tone of voice and smile slyly. I sit up on my knees and slowly, sexily, pull up my black dress. He helps me remove it completely.
ACE
This can’t just be another one-night stand, can it?
As I finally roll off of Laney, both of us breathing profusely, laughing, still in complete and total ecstasy, I realize only now, too late, I didn’t wear protection.
Not that I’m worried. Laney doesn’t strike me as the kind of girl I’d have to worry about. And I’m assuming, she would’ve told me if she’s not on the pill or something, right?
Whatever. Right now, none of that matters. All that matters is, Laney Michaels just gave this rockstar the best intercourse of his entire life. I cannot wait to see her beside me in the morning.
We may even have time for a round two.
With that happy thought on my mind, I feel my eyelids lowering…slipping…fading into the most peaceful sleep imaginable.
When I wake up in the morning, Laney’s gone.

ACE
I’m not a big fan of surprises. When someone has something to say to me, I prefer they just spit it out. But ever since Eric called me and told me to fly out to Chicago, I can just tell something is up.
The question is: what?
Eric claims he needs me to record some vocals for our new album. But then, why is Addie so involved in my visit? She’s been arranging everything from what I can tell.
I step out of the airport, and Eric is waiting for me in the car. I realize I underpacked the minute I step outside. Autumn in LA is a joke compared to Chicago.
How could I forget? The truth is, after that insane night I spent with Laney, my day-to-day life has felt a little…off. I can’t explain it exactly.
I know it was just a one-night stand. I’m not delusional. But the way our bodies connected, the way her lips felt against mine, her heat…
It’s enough to make a man hard in public.
I shake off the thought and get into Eric’s car. It’s not like I’m going to be seeing Laney anyway.
She made it abundantly clear when she left in the morning that she never wants to see me again. Right?
“Hey, man!” I say, reaching out to hug my cousin. But I immediately stop when I see the expression on Eric’s face. He looks…nervous.
“What’s up?”
“Nothing.”
We talk a little bit about the band on the way to Eric’s, but I can still sense he’s distracted. Whatever the secret is, it’s starting to eat at me.
Goddamnit, will somebody just talk?
We finally pull up to an old brown building in a busy neighborhood. Definitely not Eric and Addie’s home.
“Did you guys move?”
“No,” he says, parking. “It’ll all make sense when we get upstairs.”
I shake my head, growing more frustrated and confused with every second. But I follow Eric out of the car, into the building, and up the elevator to the sixth floor.
As we step into a loft, I notice there are canvases and paint everywhere. An art studio. Huh.
And the art, I notice, is good. Definitely not created by an amateur. I notice one attempt, over and over, in different ways. Two colors clashing, almost like two personalities.
It stirs something in me for reasons I can’t explain.
“Eric,” I turn to him. “Who painted these?”
We round a corner and that’s when I see her. A strawberry blonde in overalls, throwing paint at the canvas, wearing headphones, lost in her own world. Unaware I’m even here.
It’s Laney Michaels. This is her studio.
I feel my stomach twist into a shocked knot.
“What am I doing here?” I ask Eric. That’s when the front door opens and Laney’s twin, Eric’s wife, and my worst enemy right now, apparently, storms inside, furious.
“I asked one thing of you, Ace,” she shouts. “I told you not to sleep with my sister!”
Addie pushes me, and I barely move. Was it really such a big deal? And I’m even more surprised Laney would say something. I thought we had a mutual agreement to keep it a secret.
“You’re such a prick!” Addie screams.
“Jesus, I mean, it was just sleep.”
“Just?” she cries, shaking her head disbelievingly. “You have no idea, do you?”
“Addie, stop it!”
We both turn to see Laney standing there, headphones cast aside, looking mortified. There’s a trail of blue paint on her cheek.
“Do you mind?” Laney asks her sister.
Addie shoots me one last glare, then storms out with Eric, offering a grim shrug.
When we’re alone, I turn to Laney, surprised.
“I’m really sorry if I did something wrong,” I say. “I really thought we had a nice—”
“Ace,” she cuts me off. “It’s not that.”
I frown. “What are you talking about?”
Then, eyes watering, one lonely teardrop trailing down her cheek through the blue paint, Laney says the last words in the world I expect to hear.
“I’m pregnant, Ace. And the baby is yours.” LEARN_MORE https://a.read4funs.com/ad/ZmFuY3lOb3ZlbC8xNzE2Mjc 136560499545717 ForFun-105 https://facebook.com/61552095643555 38 1 7,872,247,886,204,886 2024-05-08 02:00 person_profile eligible 0 0 NONE 0 0 1 0 Learn more 0 ForFun-105 120208292064660019 a.read4funs.com NONE video https://a.read4funs.com/ad/ZmFuY3lOb3ZlbC8xNzE2MjcvMjAyNDA1MDgwOTI3MzYvcGFnZQ==?adid={{ad.id}} 2024-05-07 20:31 https://scontent-iad3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/441871071_1423965745155298_7552414190965632328_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_s60x60&_nc_cat=103&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=sxkhUyB1XmEQ7kNvgGWbhY6&_nc_ht=scontent-iad3-2.xx&oh=00_AfC5mKPdrI8xKmyh-9eO_wZ_vKuasE2xWALRYROTy5A62Q&oe=6641E389 person_profile 0 ForFun-105 https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.35426-6/442411988_455328033625063_8460266650661719962_n.jpg?_nc_cat=104&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=c53f8f&_nc_ohc=jXlJkJduULYQ7kNvgGPT00s&_nc_ht=scontent-iad3-1.xx&oh=00_AfADsMAQnJZasp350Xq_SrD9s9YWj_2Li-9g8kzbAZRIaQ&oe=6641F1E3 0 3 ForFun-105 0 0 2024-05-08 02:00 View Edit
