New Website Giveaway | STORY BEHIND THE PHOTO: I had scouted this remote location on the Navajo Reservation several times before getting this shot. At this time (2013) I was living on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, so to get to the location was more than a 2 hour drive across rough dirt roads that are now closed to tourist traffic. After several failed attempts, one freezing and stormy January day I knew the conditions were perfect, so I headed out for the seventh time. It was -17, so I waited in my car nearby the Canyons' Rim for the perfect light. Each time I went out to check the scene, the wind and elements were so brutal that when I got back to the car I'd put my hands on the cool vent and it felt like hammers on my fingers as they thawed. <br /> Finally, in the late afternoon light, the clouds opened up and lit upon the the South Rim, with a fresh blanket of snow on the Northern side of the Canyon. <br /> The Grand Canyon always has a way to provide in ways better than I ever could have imagined, this day in January was certainly the epitome of that! <br /> Reminder: To celebrate my new web site I'm giving away a 16x24 Canvas Print of this photo, Blue Moon Bench Grand Canyon! Our bond broken from both sides.<br /> ————————<br /> Bethany's P.o.v<br /> Abraxas a small town far away from the boisterous lifestyle of the city, but modern enough to make the odd tourist feel comfortable . Whilst the locals had no need for Starbucks, Molly's was always buzzing with the same old infamous pumpkin pie, and freshly brewed coffee. People were all up in each other's business, and gossip spread faster than a viral video . Perhaps this was most 17 year old's living nightmare, because honestly speaking which teenager wouldn't want a break from the mundane life cycle of a small town? I guess I'm an oddball, because this 17 year old has found a safe haven in this small quaint town. <br /> Don't get me wrong though, it wasn't always daisies and sunshine when I first started out in this town 2 months ago. An emancipated minor all by herself in a unfamiliar place was considered a scandal here, with the towns folk eager to air out my dirty laundry. A few quips, and the occasional blatant look from me was enough for the towns folk to loose interest in me after a week or two. I mostly kept to myself, and the humans backed off. Luckily enough the werewolves of a nearby pack passed me off as a boring "human", and paid no heed to me. I wonder what they would have thought, had they discovered that I'm far from the boring unassuming "human" they thought I am. <br /> I am a werewolf , but not quite the usual wolf. I have no desire to live in a pack, nor do I have the desire to rampage around like a savage. I'm no rogue, but I'm no pack member neither. <br /> I'd say if white and black had a baby I'd be called grey, a lone wolf if you'd prefer. Lone wolves were a myth before I came along. <br /> You must be wondering how does a lone wolf like me not get noticed at all? Well to be honest , it's my wolf Silver. She has always been a rather peculiar one, whilst most werewolves shift and meet their wolves at 13. I felt her presence at the mere age of 7. I was a little more than startled and freaked. I mean which 7 year old wouldn't feel that way? In my defense Silver's presence felt oddly calming, and so I decided to embrace her presence fully . It has been one of my best decisions made to date. She taught me how to mask my wolf scent, to read the vibes, and energy of people in any environment that I am in , how to blend in with the people around me, and how to see through the facades of society. It has been an absolute miracle. I can't even begin to count the number of times, that these skills saved my hide. <br /> If it weren't for the fact that I couldn't meet the extra requirements to be home schooled in my final year. I would have never enrolled myself in Abraxas High. I wasn't nervous about going to school with the humans. Ignoring them, and focusing on myself would work just fine. It was the fact that werewolves from the Silver Moon pack attended Abraxas High as well. Hiding my wolf scent could work only so well . I was worried that someone might put two and two together, and figure out that maybe there was nothing unassuming about me afterall. It would ruin everything. <br /> My train of thought pauses as the noise in the bus starts to get louder. We must be near I think. <br /> *Wish us luck?* I ask my wolf quietly. <br /> *We don't need any.* Silver responds confidently .<br /> *Well here we go!* I exclaim, as Abraxas high comes to view from the side of the bus drivers windscreen. <br /> There was nothing extraordinary about this building. It was pretty standard if you ask me , although a paint job wouldn't hurt the eyes. Whilst waiting for all the students to exit the bus first, I start to scan the area. My eyes linger over to a spot under a rusty looking tree on the edge of the field. Hmm I guess I just found my hangout spot for lunchtime. There was no way I'd survive all of my breaks in the cafeteria. I start to make my way out when I noticed that the bus was almost empty. I scan my surroundings once more, observing the humans and werewolves. It wasn't hard really, their wolf scent was a dead giveaway. Other than the fact they rarely associate themselves with humans, unless their mates are human, or they are just fooling around. It was most pleasing to note that most of the humans were to awed by the distinct beauty of the wolves to even notice me as I made my way into the hallway. <br /> *Perhaps they would notice you too, if you didn't dress to hide.* my wolf snickers at me. <br /> I didn't want additional attention on me, so I mostly hid behind baggy tracksuits, my favorite black BTS cap. I completed my look with a black pair of Vans, a pair of untested glasses which I didn't need, and with my hair tied up in a high pony.<br /> My pace begins to slow down as the administrator's office came to view. I knocked lightly on the open door to gain the administrators attention , and also because it seemed like the polite thing to do. It didn't take me longer than five minutes to get my schedule seeing as I was the only student there. At least the administrator seemed to like me for my polite behavior. <br /> *Must be something out of the ordinary in Abraxas high.* I sarcastically drawl to Silver, and the only response I received was my wolf's giggles. <br /> ---<br /> Hmm... Math in the first period!!! Why Moon Goddess, why? Who would do such a thing? Do they want us to dread the mere existence of our lives even more? At least algebra is manageable . I sigh, as I look around the classroom for a seat. I spot a couple of empty seats since it's still pretty early, and I like to be early for absolutely everything. I eventually decided to sit near a window seat in the middle of the left row, its perfect for blending in. The classroom was pretty standard for a small town high-school. I soon find myself doodling in a spare book to kill some time before its time to face the world again.<br /> It didn't take more than 10 minutes before the class began to buzz with chatter. I briefly look around before focusing my attention back on my book, pretending to be more interested in my doodling, whilst trying to pick up what ever information I could on my class mates. Knowledge is power, and who knows when that knowledge may come in handy? Especially when dealing with demons, uh I mean the teenagers in my school.<br /> All I picked up on was boring holiday chatter from the humans, but there was one small thing that struck out. The human female population were looking around for some Cole, Blake and Andrew guys. Judging by the slightly annoyed look on the wolves faces, they must be pack members I conclude. I zone them out and focus more on the werewolves, as I find myself eavesdropping on a conversation they were having about me.<br /> "Who's the new girl?", I hear guy number one ask. <br /> "Hey! I know her, well heard of her. She is that emancipated loner girl living in town." Guy number two retorts. <br /> "Oh yeah... I remember Andrew had to do some basic digging on her for Cole, when she first arrived in town." A girl adds.<br /> "Well... did he find anything juicy?" guy number one asks.<br /> "Na! Andrew said she prefers her own company and doesn't go out much, I think that's why the town was so curious about her in the first place. A little mystery is breath of fresh air in this crusty old town." Guy number two retorts.<br /> "Honestly! How much more exciting can a human with a past get? Its so overused at this point, humans are so mindless." I hear a girl say.<br /> "What do you think she's hiding? " Guy number one asks, sounding curious. <br /> "Abusive ex boyfriend, drugs, her past with her being on the wrong side of the law etc." The girl drawls out, sounding disinterested. <br /> "Guess we'll find out soon.", Guy number two states rather smugly.<br /> "Oh please! Something tells me that you'll send her running for the hills. Besides we shouldn't unnecessarily mix with these humans, especially her. We don't know much about her. Cole wouldn't approve." The girl says. <br /> The conversation died down as soon as this Cole guy was mentioned. <br /> *Maybe they are mind-linking?* I ask my wolf. <br /> *Maybe... From the looks of it , Andrew reporting to Cole suggests that Cole is possibly the Alpha. Andrew could be the gamma based on the fact he had being assigned to investigate you. That's more of a gamma's job description. Hmm... That hypothetically leaves Blake being the beta of the pack... That has a nice ring to it., Blake the beta*, My wolf swoons. <br /> *Blake the beta, really Silver? Swooning over a guy you've never met. or seen before? Such a hopeless romantic you are! As long as these wolves keep their distance, and see me as nothing but a boring human, we'll be fine. We still need to be careful though, we don't need the attention*, I say to Silver. <br /> *What's a wolf to do? Especially when her human is a happily isolated person* My wolf counters back before adding, *You worry too much Beth! Chill woman, you and I both got this. Now hurry up, and pay attention, your teacher is here.* <br /> The rest of math went by pretty quickly. Luckily enough the teacher didn't seem to notice me, and if he did, he didn't seem like the type to care. This worked for me though. Even the work we are covering this year seems easier than my prior year. The level of education of been privately homeschooled has always been higher than that of studying in a government school, and boy does this just prove it. Hopefully the rest of my subjects will be a cruise, then maybe, just maybe this year might not be so hectic after all. If only I knew better... <br /> I had English during my second period, however since the teacher was absent, we had a free period with a substitute teacher . I learnt that I would be sharing all 6 periods with my class mates. Something about a small number of students in their final year .I also learnt the names of the wolves in my math class earlier. Josephine was the girl in the group with Alex being guy number one, and Anthony being guy number two. There was also a guy named Matthew who walked in a few minutes late during math.<br /> Josephine is rather fierce with her straight red hair, brown eyes, and a strong built. She is slightly shorter than me, standing around 5.3 feet, whilst I am around 5.6 feet. Mathew is a hazel eyed goof ball, with dark brown curly hair, and a loud smile. He likes to joke around, and make everyone laugh. Mathew is the only mated male wolf in the group, judging from his mark and scent. Anthony is the polar opposite of Mathew. He has straight blonde hair with grey eyes. He seems quiet, preferring to listen to his packmates rather than talking your ears off. Alex is the cherry on top of a warm chocolate gooey brownie, he has straight black hair with blue eyes. He's a total flirt, but deep down there's a warm twinkle in his eye that very subtly shows softer side to him. <br /> Whilst my morning seemed to be going well, my luck had unfortunately run out for the rest of the day. My biological science teacher, Mrs Anderson currently seems very keen on making me introduce myself, and it appears that everyone's interest has been peaked as well. I can see everyone turning themselves around to see me better, their gaze curiously silencing the room as I calmly stand up from my seat. I guess even after all of this time, people are still so intrigued. I mean who wouldn't be when no one really knows much about me, especially in a small town like Abraxas. I wonder what their reaction would be if I told them, that I'm an illegal runaway emancipated loner wolf. I'd probably be in a mental asylum by now I muse. <br /> "Morning everyone. My name is Bethany, and I'll be your classmate for the year." I say with very little emotion in my voice. <br /> I glance around, and I could clearly see the amused look on Matthew's face, the bored look on Josephine's face, and the look of disbelief on everyone else's face. Uhm so moving on I'm not sure what the other teachers follow in their own class rooms, but here in my class we work in groups of 4 due to the extent of the practicals, and assignments. Since everyone is already grouped , including the students absent today. You'll be rotated among two groups for each practical, and assignment this year based on your results. Since the other group is absent for today I will introduce you to your first group." Mrs Anderson says to me, whilst turning to face Josephine. <br /> " Josephine dear please raise your hand, so that Bethany can seat herself besides your group. Do fill her in on any bits and pieces along the way." Mrs Anderson finishes off as she turns around, and walks towards the board to begin the lesson. <br /> I make my way towards Josephine's group, and sit on the next available seat which just so happened to be next to Anthony. I just nod my head in acknowledgement to the group, and focus my attention on Mrs Anderson.<br /> I'm not here to be friendly, nor to make friends I tell myself repeatedly, as I wait for the lesson to start. <br /> *It wouldn't hurt you, if you opened up a little. You've been alone for a while now. You could do with some company that isn't from me.* My wolf says. <br /> *It's better this way trust me, we are just saving ourselves from drama ,and pain. * I reply. <br /> Silver just huffs in annoyance, I swear that wolf has more personality than me sometimes. <br /> I guess the silence must have been killing Alex, because he look like he is about to burst with excitement any moment now. <br /> "So.... New girl, the names Alex and it's nice to meet you." Alex drawls out whilst giving me his full attention.<br /> "This sweet, but sadly good looking man on my right is Mathew. Don't get any ideas though he is taken, but fortunately for you I'm fully single. The quiet, but humble gentle soul next to you is Anthony, and the fierce redhead to my left is the truly horrifying Josephine, but you already knew her name from Mrs Anderson." He finishes. <br /> I nod my head in acknowledgement once more and say, "Hi I'm Bethany, but you guys already knew that."<br /> "No, Sherlock!" Josephine says unimpressed<br /> "So Betty! May I call you Betty? " Alex asks with a smile on his face. <br /> I raise an eyebrow at Alex, and reply "Bethany is just fine if you would please."<br /> I must have said something, because Josephine just sprouted a small smile "Finally someone who isn't immune to Alex's so called charm. " She mutters softly. I would have doubted hearing that if it hadn't been for my wolf hearing. Alex pouts at her, whilst Mathew looks like he wants to laugh. <br /> "So Bethany what do you think of dear old Abraxas high so far? "Mathew asks politely.<br /> "It's nice." I respond, before taking out a pen to start jotting down the notes on the board. This being the memo that the conversation is now over. The work didn't seem that complex, probably due to the extent of work I covered whilst been homeschooled. I internally shruged and continued to work in silence through out the entire lesson until the bell rang signaling my first break. I grab my stuff immediately, and rush out through the front door with my feet taking me to the spot my eyes lingered on earlier this morning. I sit down, and sanitize my hands before I savoured my favorite chicken and mayo sandwich. From my spot I can see nearly 80% of the school. <br /> As I was munching on my sandwich, and slurping down my chocolate milkshake. I can see two figures walk into the school. One being been a male, and the other been a female. The female has a grace in her walk that screams high class society. She was a gorgeous blonde, with freckles dusted around her light grey eyes. She's probably around 5.4 feet. The male wasn't so bad looking either. He had red hair with brown eyes, just like Josephine my brain concludes. Maybe they are related I guess. <br /> I then noticed how Josephine, and the boys seemed to know about the arrival of our mysterious wolves. Mindlinking is one of the best and yet most frustrating thing about being a wolf. <br /> I pretend to be more interested in my food, as the group looks around observing their surroundings. I guess they didn't deem my presence as a threat, because as a "human" I wouldn't have been able to hear a word they said from the spot that I am in. <br /> "You're back!" Josephine exclaims happily as she embraces the red head male in her arms.<br /> "You're safe, I've missed you so much bro. Next time you guys decide to go help out an ally take me with you!" My Blake can easily take you, and you know it Andrew. " The blonde head says teasingly.<br /> Ahh so he must be Andrew, I conclude from the information I gathered earlier. The smell of dark chocolate, and old whiskey hung thick in the air. I suddenly had the feeling that I was been watched, and so I turned around. Across from me, stood a tall guy with the most intense warm chocolatey eyes ever, dark black hair. He was unbelievably handsome, or maybe I was just a really biased person. <br /> MATE! I think, but stop myself from saying it out loud by harshly biting my tongue, drawing blood . I wasn't supposed to know about mates remember. Thank you werewolf healing abilities. I won't be uncomfortable for the rest of the day now, I think to myself. Our eyes lock ,and our souls pull towards each other for the few seconds our eyes met. He breaks eye contact, as a blonde female approachs him. I felt my heart crumbling in that very moment, as she embraced him the way lovers do, and passionately bussed him. He bussed back I noted, and just like that my heart completely shattered for a stranger I never knew. The blonde turns her head a little, and I immediately recognize her as Erica, Blake's so called mate. I turn away, and walk to the nearest bathroom locking myself in a cubicle. Silent tears roll down my cheeks furiously. No Beth! No! I tell myself. No stranger gets to have this affect on you. You've come so far, you can't let this mere guy ruin this little peace and sanity you have left. You're so much stronger than this. <br /> I start to wipe my tears with shakey hands, before unlatching the door lock. I walk to the nearest tap, remove my glasses, and wash my face with some cold water. I grab a paper towel, and pat dry my face. I put on a fake smile for road, before I exited the bathroom. Tomorrow will be the first practical I note, as Mrs Anderson covers the theory for tomorrows practical. I shudder to think how I'll manage when I'm rotated to Cole's group for the next practical. I found that the rest of the second, and third period went by really quick afterwards. Thankfully I am currently on my lunch break now, and I finally have the chance to give myself some time off. I'm pleased to note that my spot is still vacant, as I begin to move forward, and sit under a shady spot. At least something in my day is going okay. I feel at ease for about two full minutes, before the smell of dark chocolate and old whiskey decides to invade my senses. Arrrg what does it take for a girl to enjoy some peace here? I look around, and see Blake approaching me, alone for a change that is. My mind swirls with thousands of different scenarios that could happen, whilst my heart flutters with slight hope. My gut feels heavy though, I doubt it's anything positive. I mask all of my emotions trying not to give away any indication of my feelings as Blake gets closer. <br /> "Hi." " I respond back looking at him quizzically. <br /> "I'm really sorry for this, but uhh my girlfriend Erica and I were playing a game of truth or dare, and well she dared me to do enact a rejection scene to you." I look at him waiting for him to get it over, and done with so I could just be here by myself. It's not like life can get any more worse... right? I wonder what they would have thought, had they discovered that I'm far from the boring unassuming "human" they thought I am. <br /> I am a werewolf , but not quite the usual wolf. I have no desire to live in a pack, nor do I have the desire to rampage around like a savage. I'm no rogue, but I'm no pack member neither. <br /> I'd say if white and black had a baby I'd be called grey, a lone wolf if you'd prefer. Lone wolves were a myth before I came along. <br /> You must be wondering how does a lone wolf like me not get noticed at all? Well to be honest , it's my wolf Silver. She has always been a rather peculiar one, whilst most werewolves shift and meet their wolves at 13. I felt her presence at the mere age of 7. I was a little more than startled and freaked. I mean which 7 year old wouldn't feel that way? In my defense Silver's presence felt oddly calming, and so I decided to embrace her presence fully . It has been one of my best decisions made to date. She taught me how to mask my wolf scent, to read the vibes, and energy of people in any environment that I am in , how to blend in with the people around me, and how to see through the facades of society. It has been an absolute miracle. I can't even begin to count the number of times, that these skills saved my hide. <br /> If it weren't for the fact that I couldn't meet the extra requirements to be home schooled in my final year. I would have never enrolled myself in Abraxas High. I wasn't nervous about going to school with the humans. Ignoring them, and focusing on myself would work just fine. It was the fact that werewolves from the Silver Moon pack attended Abraxas High as well. Hiding my wolf scent could work only so well . I was worried that someone might put two and two together, and figure out that maybe there was nothing unassuming about me afterall. It would ruin everything. <br /> My train of thought pauses as the noise in the bus starts to get louder. We must be near I think. <br /> *Wish us luck?* I ask my wolf quietly. <br /> *We don't need any.* Silver responds confidently .<br /> *Well here we go!* I exclaim, as Abraxas high comes to view from the side of the bus drivers windscreen. <br /> There was nothing extraordinary about this building. It was pretty standard if you ask me , although a paint job wouldn't hurt the eyes. Whilst waiting for all the students to exit the bus first, I start to scan the area. My eyes linger over to a spot under a rusty looking tree on the edge of the field. Hmm I guess I just found my hangout spot for lunchtime. There was no way I'd survive all of my breaks in the cafeteria. I start to make my way out when I noticed that the bus was almost empty. I scan my surroundings once more, observing the humans and werewolves. It wasn't hard really, their wolf scent was a dead giveaway. Other than the fact they rarely associate themselves with humans, unless their mates are human, or they are just fooling around. It was most pleasing to note that most of the humans were to awed by the distinct beauty of the wolves to even notice me as I made my way into the hallway. <br /> *Perhaps they would notice you too, if you didn't dress to hide.* my wolf snickers at me. <br /> I didn't want additional attention on me, so I mostly hid behind baggy tracksuits, my favorite black BTS cap. I completed my look with a black pair of Vans, a pair of untested glasses which I didn't need, and with my hair tied up in a high pony.<br /> My pace begins to slow down as the administrator's office came to view. I knocked lightly on the open door to gain the administrators attention , and also because it seemed like the polite thing to do. It didn't take me longer than five minutes to get my schedule seeing as I was the only student there. At least the administrator seemed to like me for my polite behavior. <br /> *Must be something out of the ordinary in Abraxas high.* I sarcastically drawl to Silver, and the only response I received was my wolf's giggles. <br /> ---<br /> Hmm... Math in the first period!!! Why Moon Goddess, why? Who would do such a thing? Do they want us to dread the mere existence of our lives even more? At least algebra is manageable . I sigh, as I look around the classroom for a seat. I spot a couple of empty seats since it's still pretty early, and I like to be early for absolutely everything. I eventually decided to sit near a window seat in the middle of the left row, its perfect for blending in. The classroom was pretty standard for a small town high-school. Cream coloured walls, pine wooden desks, a classic whiteboard in the centre... I am sure you get the drift. I soon find myself doodling in a spare book to kill some time before its time to face the world again.<br /> It didn't take more than 10 minutes before the class began to buzz with chatter. I briefly look around before focusing my attention back on my book, pretending to be more interested in my doodling, whilst trying to pick up what ever information I could on my class mates. Knowledge is power, and who knows when that knowledge may come in handy? Especially when dealing with demons, uh I mean the teenagers in my school.<br /> All I picked up on was boring holiday chatter from the humans, but there was one small thing that struck out. The human female population were looking around for some Cole, Blake and Andrew guys. Judging by the slightly annoyed look on the wolves faces, they must be pack members I conclude. I zone them out and focus more on the werewolves, as I find myself eavesdropping on a conversation they were having about me.<br /> "Who's the new girl?", I hear guy number one ask. <br /> "Hey! I know her, well heard of her. She is that emancipated loner girl living in town." Guy number two retorts. <br /> "Oh yeah... I remember Andrew had to do some basic digging on her for Cole, when she first arrived in town." A girl adds.<br /> "Well... did he find anything juicy?" guy number one asks.<br /> "Na! Andrew said she prefers her own company and doesn't go out much, I think that's why the town was so curious about her in the first place. A little mystery is breath of fresh air in this crusty old town." Guy number two retorts.<br /> "Honestly! How much more exciting can a human with a past get? Its so overused at this point, humans are so mindless." I hear a girl say.<br /> "What do you think she's hiding? " Guy number one asks, sounding curious. <br /> "Abusive ex boyfriend, drugs, her past with her being on the wrong side of the law etc." The girl drawls out, sounding disinterested. <br /> "Guess we'll find out soon.", Guy number two states rather smugly.<br /> "Oh please! Something tells me that you'll send her running for the hills. Besides we shouldn't unnecessarily mix with these humans, especially her. We don't know much about her. Cole wouldn't approve." The girl says. <br /> The conversation died down as soon as this Cole guy was mentioned. <br /> *Maybe they are mind-linking?* I ask my wolf. <br /> *Maybe... From the looks of it , Andrew reporting to Cole suggests that Cole is possibly the Alpha. Andrew could be the gamma based on the fact he had being assigned to investigate you. That's more of a gamma's job description. Hmm... That hypothetically leaves Blake being the beta of the pack... That has a nice ring to it., Blake the beta*, My wolf swoons. <br /> *Blake the beta, really Silver? Swooning over a guy you've never met. or seen before? Such a hopeless romantic you are! As long as these wolves keep their distance, and see me as nothing but a boring human, we'll be fine. We still need to be careful though, we don't need the attention*, I say to Silver. <br /> *What's a wolf to do? Especially when her human is a happily isolated person* My wolf counters back before adding, *You worry too much Beth! Chill woman, you and I both got this. Now hurry up, and pay attention, your teacher is here.* <br /> The rest of math went by pretty quickly. Luckily enough the teacher didn't seem to notice me, and if he did, he didn't seem like the type to care. This worked for me though. Even the work we are covering this year seems easier than my prior year. The level of education of been privately homeschooled has always been higher than that of studying in a government school, and boy does this just prove it. Hopefully the rest of my subjects will be a cruise, then maybe, just maybe this year might not be so hectic after all. If only I knew better... <br /> I had English during my second period, however since the teacher was absent, we had a free period with a substitute teacher . I learnt that I would be sharing all 6 periods with my class mates. Something about a small number of students in their final year .I also learnt the names of the wolves in my math class earlier. Josephine was the girl in the group with Alex being guy number one, and Anthony being guy number two. There was also a guy named Matthew who walked in a few minutes late during math.<br /> Josephine is rather fierce with her straight red hair, brown eyes, and a strong built. She is slightly shorter than me, standing around 5.3 feet, whilst I am around 5.6 feet. Mathew is a hazel eyed goof ball, with dark brown curly hair, and a loud smile. He likes to joke around, and make everyone laugh. Mathew is the only mated male wolf in the group, judging from his mark and scent. Anthony is the polar opposite of Mathew. He has straight blonde hair with grey eyes. He seems quiet, preferring to listen to his packmates rather than talking your ears off. Alex is the cherry on top of a warm chocolate gooey brownie, he has straight black hair with blue eyes. He's a total flirt, but deep down there's a warm twinkle in his eye that very subtly shows softer side to him. <br /> Whilst my morning seemed to be going well, my luck had unfortunately run out for the rest of the day. My biological science teacher, Mrs Anderson currently seems very keen on making me introduce myself, and it appears that everyone's interest has been peaked as well. I can see everyone turning themselves around to see me better, their gaze curiously silencing the room as I calmly stand up from my seat. I guess even after all of this time, people are still so intrigued. I mean who wouldn't be when no one really knows much about me, especially in a small town like Abraxas. I wonder what their reaction would be if I told them, that I'm an illegal runaway emancipated loner wolf. I'd probably be in a mental asylum by now I muse. <br /> "Morning everyone. My name is Bethany, and I'll be your classmate for the year." I say with very little emotion in my voice. <br /> I glance around, and I could clearly see the amused look on Matthew's face, the bored look on Josephine's face, and the look of disbelief on everyone else's face. What were they expecting, a biography on Bethany Willow Richard's ? I sarcastically think to myself . <br /> "Well dear that was a rather short introduction . Uhm so moving on I'm not sure what the other teachers follow in their own class rooms, but here in my class we work in groups of 4 due to the extent of the practicals, and assignments. Since everyone is already grouped , including the students absent today. You'll be rotated among two groups for each practical, and assignment this year based on your results. Since the other group is absent for today I will introduce you to your first group." Mrs Anderson says to me, whilst turning to face Josephine. <br /> " Josephine dear please raise your hand, so that Bethany can seat herself besides your group. Do fill her in on any bits and pieces along the way." Mrs Anderson finishes off as she turns around, and walks towards the board to begin the lesson. <br /> I make my way towards Josephine's group, and sit on the next available seat which just so happened to be next to Anthony. I just nod my head in acknowledgement to the group, and focus my attention on Mrs Anderson.<br /> I'm not here to be friendly, nor to make friends I tell myself repeatedly, as I wait for the lesson to start. <br /> *It wouldn't hurt you, if you opened up a little. You've been alone for a while now. You could do with some company that isn't from me.* My wolf says. <br /> *It's better this way trust me, we are just saving ourselves from drama ,and pain. * I reply. <br /> Silver just huffs in annoyance, I swear that wolf has more personality than me sometimes. <br /> I guess the silence must have been killing Alex, because he look like he is about to burst with excitement any moment now. <br /> "So.... New girl, the names Alex and it's nice to meet you." Alex drawls out whilst giving me his full attention.<br /> "This sweet, but sadly good looking man on my right is Mathew. Don't get any ideas though he is taken, but fortunately for you I'm fully single. The quiet, but humble gentle soul next to you is Anthony, and the fierce redhead to my left is the truly horrifying Josephine, but you already knew her name from Mrs Anderson." He finishes. <br /> I nod my head in acknowledgement once more and say, "Hi I'm Bethany, but you guys already knew that."<br /> "No, Sherlock!" Josephine says unimpressed<br /> "So Betty! May I call you Betty? " Alex asks with a smile on his face. <br /> I raise an eyebrow at Alex, and reply "Bethany is just fine if you would please."<br /> I must have said something, because Josephine just sprouted a small smile "Finally someone who isn't immune to Alex's so called charm. " She mutters softly. I would have doubted hearing that if it hadn't been for my wolf hearing. Alex pouts at her, whilst Mathew looks like he wants to laugh. <br /> "So Bethany what do you think of dear old Abraxas high so far? "Mathew asks politely.<br /> "It's nice." I respond, before taking out a pen to start jotting down the notes on the board. This being the memo that the conversation is now over. The work didn't seem that complex, probably due to the extent of work I covered whilst been homeschooled. I internally shruged and continued to work in silence through out the entire lesson until the bell rang signaling my first break. I grab my stuff immediately, and rush out through the front door with my feet taking me to the spot my eyes lingered on earlier this morning. I sit down, and sanitize my hands before I savoured my favorite chicken and mayo sandwich. From my spot I can see nearly 80% of the school. <br /> As I was munching on my sandwich, and slurping down my chocolate milkshake. I can see two figures walk into the school. One being been a male, and the other been a female. The female has a grace in her walk that screams high class society. She was a gorgeous blonde, with freckles dusted around her light grey eyes. She's probably around 5.4 feet. The male wasn't so bad looking either. He had red hair with brown eyes, just like Josephine my brain concludes. Maybe they are related I guess. <br /> I then noticed how Josephine, and the boys seemed to know about the arrival of our mysterious wolves. Mindlinking is one of the best and yet most frustrating thing about being a wolf. <br /> I pretend to be more interested in my food, as the group looks around observing their surroundings. I guess they didn't deem my presence as a threat, because as a "human" I wouldn't have been able to hear a word they said from the spot that I am in. <br /> "You're back!" Josephine exclaims happily as she embraces the red head male in her arms.<br /> "You're safe, I've missed you so much bro. Next time you guys decide to go help out an ally take me with you!" Josephine continues sounding a little annoyed. <br /> "Easy there Jose. I'm alright, nothing can bring me down that easily you know." The male red head chuckles. <br /> "Oh please! My Blake can easily take you, and you know it Andrew. " The blonde head says teasingly.<br /> Ahh so he must be Andrew, I conclude from the information I gathered earlier. I guess that leaves Blake and Cole left. <br /> "Oh please Erica you're just saying that because Blake's your mate." Andrew exclaims dramatically. <br /> "So how are Blake and Cole? You didn't mention them yet. Why didn't they come?" Anthony asks.<br /> "Alpha Cole and Beta Blake are still sleeping. Their bodies need to recoop after the battle. Those two were fire out there Anth! You should have seen them. I've never seen such a dynamic team like that ever. The way they took down all of those rogues. I would never want to be on wrong side of the Cane Brothers, like ever!" Andrew says with awe in his voice.<br /> Well that's certainly unexpected. The beta and the alpha are siblings. Oh gosh the poor luna, she probably had a hard time raising those two. I wonder what they were like growing up. My thoughts come to a pause as the group continues their conversation.<br /> "So why aren't you with Blake, Erica? After what Blake experienced he would need you the most." Alex questions with a softness in his tone.<br /> "He wanted some alone time." Erica answers gently, but the guarded look in her eye tells me that there's something more that she's hiding. <br /> "Ahh come off it now Alex, stop worrying our beta female. She's probably worried about Blake, and here you are hounding her with questions." Josephine scolds Alex. <br /> "It's fine Josephine, Alex was only concerned about Blake. It warms me greatly to see the loyalty, thought ,and care you have towards our pack." Erica responds in defence of Alex. <br /> You could see it in all of their eyes. They all looked up to Erica. They admired and adored her. She seems genuine, but I have no idea why I had begun to feel so unsettled. I have no relationship to their pack, why does this bother me so much? <br /> "Cole and Blake will join us at school tomorrow." Andrew shares, but before questioning, "Hey isn't that Bethany? You know the girl I did a report on for Cole. Man! I miss one day of school, and so much has happend." <br /> "Our dear Alex here tried to win Miss loner with his Charm. She didn't seem impressed at all." Josephine says before bursting into laughter. <br /> Alex pouts, whilst Mathew pokes him in the stomach. <br /> "I think she mostly wants to be left alone, but heads up though Erica and Andrew. For biology she's going to be rotated back and forth between your group and ours. So I guess we'll be seeing alot of her." Mathew says. <br /> "If she keeps to herself, we won't have to worry about her finding out anything about us. We'll keep our distance, and respect her wish to be left alone. You recon she could be a mate to one of our pack members?" Erica muses out loud. <br /> "Guess we'll find out eventually." Andrew says. <br /> The rest of my day was pretty much standard. I avoided the wolves as much as possible, and well the humans on the other hand, pretty much left me alone preferring to focus their attention on themselves, or the wolves. <br /> ---<br /> As soon as I stepped off the bus, I could hear all the excited chatter about Cole, Blake, and Andrew been spotted at school today. As far as I knew, all 3 of them weren't single. So just what were these humans so excited about. I mean they are handsome, but really that's about it. I shrug off their chatter , and make my way into the building. Something catches my attention before I could enter the building though. The smell of dark chocolate, and old whiskey hung thick in the air. I suddenly had the feeling that I was been watched, and so I turned around. Across from me, stood a tall guy with the most intense warm chocolatey eyes ever, dark black hair. He was unbelievably handsome, or maybe I was just a really biased person. <br /> MATE! I think, but stop myself from saying it out loud by harshly biting my tongue, drawing blood . I wasn't supposed to know about mates remember. Thank you werewolf healing abilities. I won't be uncomfortable for the rest of the day now, I think to myself. Our eyes lock ,and our souls pull towards each other for the few seconds our eyes met. He breaks eye contact, as a blonde female approachs him. I felt my heart crumbling in that very moment, as she embraced him the way lovers do, and passionately bussed him. He bussed back I noted, and just like that my heart completely shattered for a stranger I never knew. The blonde turns her head a little, and I immediately recognize her as Erica, Blake's so called mate. I turn away, and walk to the nearest bathroom locking myself in a cubicle. Silent tears roll down my cheeks furiously. No Beth! No! I tell myself. No stranger gets to have this affect on you. You've come so far, you can't let this mere guy ruin this little peace and sanity you have left. You're so much stronger than this. <br /> I start to wipe my tears with shakey hands, before unlatching the door lock. I walk to the nearest tap, remove my glasses, and wash my face with some cold water. I grab a paper towel, and pat dry my face. I put on a fake smile for road, before I exited the bathroom. Well here I go I think to myself trying to brace myself for what's about to come.<br /> ---<br /> Mrs Anderson begins her lesson. Tomorrow will be the first practical I note, as Mrs Anderson covers the theory for tomorrows practical. I shudder to think how I'll manage when I'm rotated to Cole's group for the next practical. Blake, and I would be forced to interact with one another. I would also have to deal with Erica. Oh moon goddess why me? I silently question. I found that the rest of the second, and third period went by really quick afterwards. Thankfully I am currently on my lunch break now, and I finally have the chance to give myself some time off. I'm pleased to note that my spot is still vacant, as I begin to move forward, and sit under a shady spot. At least something in my day is going okay. I feel at ease for about two full minutes, before the smell of dark chocolate and old whiskey decides to invade my senses. Arrrg what does it take for a girl to enjoy some peace here? I look around, and see Blake approaching me, alone for a change that is. My mind swirls with thousands of different scenarios that could happen, whilst my heart flutters with slight hope. My gut feels heavy though, I doubt it's anything positive. I mask all of my emotions trying not to give away any indication of my feelings as Blake gets closer. <br /> "Hi." He says with a half hearted smile on his face. <br /> " Hey. " I respond back looking at him quizzically. <br /> "I'm really sorry for this, but uhh my girlfriend Erica and I were playing a game of truth or dare, and well she dared me to do enact a rejection scene to you." He finishes off lamely. <br /> "Oh!" I exclaim sounding as bored, and unbothered as I could. I was hurting on the inside though. I knew what was coming. I look at him waiting for him to get it over, and done with so I could just be here by myself. It's not like life can get any more worse... right? Maybe this was for the best, it would be too messy to mix with him and his pack. Besides I'm meant to bounce from here once school is over.<br /> "I Blake Cane hereby Reject Bethany Richard as my mate." He says, his voice sounding strained and hoarse. He's bothered too I note.<br /> I felt the first part of our bond break. It didn't even matter if he didn't use my middle name, the rejection was completed on his side. He doesn't say anything as he starts to slowly walk back ,as if he didn't just break my foolish frail heart . He made his choice, and with that final thought in my head, I suddenly feel brave & determined to say something back to Blake.<br /> " Wait!" I call out looking Blake dead in the eye. My heart burning with trepidation, as he turns around.<br /> "I've always wanted to enact a rejection dialog." I lie.<br /> Before Blake could say anything, I say "I Bethany Willow Richard accept Blake Cane's rejection."<br /> This must have taken him by surprise, because his face scrunched in pain for a second, before he masked his emotions. This was it! Our bond broken from both sides. It only took a few words to ruin me, I am above that though. I cannot let my peace be reduced to that. Blake steps away leaving me alone in my thoughts, and then the tears start to race down my cheeks.<br /> I furiously wipe them away for the second time today, and decide to take the rest of the day off.
