Body | “I'm sorry I'm late with your payment, but I don't have the money—" he yelled, trembling.
“Then I'll make you a deal. Give me your daughter, and I'll consider your debt paid in full. You will not have to make any more payments to us, and you can continue with your lives."
“And if I don't?"
I let out a deep breath. “Then, I'll kill you right here and now. Maybe I'll kill your entire family. Of I'll kill you, your wife, and son and will take your daughter anyway. It's your choice."
“No, don't!" the woman yelled. “This is my family!"
Gage was suddenly calm, his eyes filled with resolve. “If I do this, then we're square?"
“Dad, no!" The woman's eyes shot daggers at me. “I'm not going anywhere with you!"
'Oh, but you are,' I thought to myself as a sly smile curled my lips.
“No, you can't take her!" her mother yelled, tears streaming down her cheeks. “She's pregnant!"
————————
Lycia
I pulled into the parking lot of Supernova, and the music was already blaring. As soon as I got out of my car, I clicked the automatic door lock on my keychain and headed toward the front door of the club. Tonight, I was going to have fun. I was tired of playing it safe and tired of my Pack ridiculing me. I was ready to cut loose and live on the wild side for a change and maybe even do something a little dangerous. I was keeping my options open.
The sound of glasses clinking resonated from the bar to the right, and people were talking to each other, yelling over the loud music. After fishing my ID out of my purse, I stepped up to the bouncer at the front door when it was my turn.
One of his eyebrows rose, giving me a hot smile as he quickly looked over my ID and handed it back to me. “Have fun tonight." He winked as he stamped my hand.
I walked on, smiling as a thrill ran through my body, glad to see that my dress was working.
All eyes were on me as I passed the first bar and headed toward the second bar to the left. It was quieter, and not as many people were there. I sat on one of the barstools and smiled at the bartender.
“So, what'll you have tonight?" he asked, placing his hand on the bar as he turned sideways.
“A frozen Mango Margarita and a shot of Amaretto, please." I laid my purse on my lap, not wanting to leave it where it could easily be taken.
As I sipped the shot, I scented another wolf nearby. Humans came here along with wolf-shifters. I looked up, and there he was, sitting right across from me, drinking a spirits.
He held up his spirits as he smiled and took a drink. He had dark brown hair, piercing blue eyes, and was heavily muscled. All wolves had blue eyes, so that was no surprise, but he seemed to look right through me. I downed the rest of the shot.
“Would you like to dance?" I looked across the bar at him as I set the shot glass on the counter and motioned for another. The bartender nodded.
“Yes, I would," the handsome wolf across from me replied. He left his spirits sitting on the bar and stood, rising to his full height... and he was huge. He had to be six foot five or something, nearly a whole foot taller than me. I was tall for a woman—five foot, six inches—but he dwarfed me. He held out his big hand, and electricity coursed through my body as I took it.
He led me onto the dance floor and slipped one arm around my waist as I laid my arm on his shoulder. He held my other hand and brought it to his chest, looking into my eyes.
The song came to an end, and I stepped away. “Well, thank you for the dance—"
“Would you honor me with another dance?" he asked, a beautiful hot smile curling his lips.
“Sure, why not?"
But this time, he pulled me close, and my breasts pushed against his chest as he slid his strong arms around my waist, leaving me no choice but to slide my hands to his upper arms. Muscles bulged beneath his thin, muted-green sweater, causing my heart to pound as he stared into my eyes.
He leaned close, his eyes never leaving mine, as if trying to read my mind, but I was sure he couldn't. He was just that intense.
Unable to take any more, I laid my head on his chest and swayed with him to the music, feeling safe in his arms, despite his warning.
He leaned his head against mine. “What Pack do you belong to?" he asked, his voice merely a whisper, too low for humans to hear.
“No names. No identifying features. Not tonight." I looked into his eyes. “Let's just enjoy ourselves."
He shrugged. “As you wish."
Suddenly, a hot Latin song came on, and, to my surprise, he led me along the dance floor in a perfect West Coast Swing. The way he moved his hips to the music and spun me around was nothing short of magical. When the song came to an end, another came on, and we kept dancing. He was so good on the dance floor, I couldn't help but wonder what he would be like in bed.
But I quickly pushed the thought from my mind as we danced. After all, I had never been with a man before. Then again, I had wanted to live on the wild side and see how the other half lived for once. A part of me felt like being reckless. I chuckled to myself. This poor man didn't know what he was getting himself into. He had probably come here for a drink and to have a little fun. I was sure he wasn't here to find a Mate.
All too soon, the song ended, and he pecked my hand and led me off the floor. My heart sank, thinking that was going to be the end of our story. But then, he surprised me when he asked, “So, do you mind if I get my spirits and sit with you?"
I chuckled, shaking my head as his smile faded. “No. I don't mind at all. I'd love it."
His smile quickly reappeared. “I'll be right back." He went to the other side of the bar.
In the few moments that he was gone, another man approached. “Mind if I sit down, lovely?"
“Yes, she minds," a gruff, powerful voice said beside me. I looked up and smiled, for it was my mystery man, having come back to claim me. Or, at least, that was how I saw it.
---
Logan
“Oh... yeah... sorry, man," the man stammered, taking a step back. “I didn't know she was with anyone."
The poor jerk darted away before I could ask him if he saw us dancing together. But technically, he was right. We weren't together. Well, not permanently, anyway. But for tonight, she was mine. My wolf growled his satisfaction deep within my chest. He wanted to claim her wolf as his right then, which was rare. In fact, he had never wanted to claim another wolf before now. But there was a first time for everything.
“So, do you live around here, or are you from out of town?" I took a sip of my spirits, curious. I found that the more time I spent with her, the more I wanted to know. Even though she had suggested we stay anonymous, it was a simple enough question that I didn't think she would object.
She sighed, brushing a strand of her long blonde hair over her shoulder. Actually, it was dark blonde with subtle streaks that fell over her shoulders like water into beautiful waves.
“I'm from here." She poured the rest of her shot into her Margharita, stirred it up, and took a sip.
So, she was a part of either the Shadowcrest Warriors Pack or the Crystal Grove Pack. But I knew for a fact she wasn't a part of my Pack, the Skyclaw Guardians. If she was, I would have seen her by now and would have probably already claimed her. It wouldn't be hard to track her down later, if I really wanted to.
That would be a first. I never went looking for women after one-night stands.
“So, are you from around here?" the gorgeous blonde asked, her eyes a striking blue, contrasting sharply with her hair. She had an incredible figure, a thin waist, and long, luscious legs.
I sighed, enjoying the view more than I should. “Yes, I am." I arched an eyebrow, giving her my sexiest smile. “Would you like to know which Pack I'm from?"
She looked out over the dance floor. “Nope!" she said.
I let out a deep breath as I looked away, knowing I had to get this woman out of my head before I did something I regretted, like carting her off to Las Vegas tonight.
“Would you like to get out of here?" I asked, suddenly serious. If she turned me down, I was going to find the first woman I saw and f*ck her senseless.
“Yeah." Her voice was soft, suddenly shy. Then my heart sank. She was a virgin, and I didn't do virgins. But coffee wouldn't hurt. I paid our tabs and placed my hand on her back, motioning with my head toward the door. “Come on. Let's go."
Outside, I lifted one shoulder as I took her hand, inhaling the cool night air. Slowly, it started bringing me back to my senses. “Because that's what men do for women." I led her to my Lamborghini Countach and leaned her against it, placing one hand on either side of her, preventing her escape. “You are one gorgeous woman."
A slight blush crept up her cheek, making me want her even more. “You're pretty handsome yourself."
I leaned in as my heart pounded against my ribcage, silently seeking acceptance. Finding it, I crushed my lips to hers, and in that instant, my whole world shifted as I took her into my arms. She opened for me, deepening the peck as she pulled me close to her body, her breasts pushing against my chest as my hard c*ck pressed against her stomach. There was no mistaking what I wanted.
She tilted her head and crushed her lips to mine again. I pulled back for a moment, lifted the door high into the air, swept her into my arms, and placed her gingerly inside the cab. She leaned back and looked good enough to eat. But there was no way I was going to f*ck her in the parking lot for all to see. I wasn't an animal. Instead, I leaned in and pressed my lips to hers again, running my hand up her leg.
……
Lycia
I woke with a start the following day, and my mystery man was still asleep next to me as the faint rays of morning sunshine peeked through the clouds. I had to get out of here. I had to get home to shower and go to work before anyone noticed that I hadn't come home last night.
One Month Later...
On my way to work, I vowed to get a pregnancy test on my way home that night. If I was having symptoms, then I was far enough along that would definitely show up on a pregnancy test.
Lately, I had been vomiting in the morning and at the oddest times throughout the day. I thought I had a stomach bug, at first. But now, it all made sense.
“Good morning, Lycia!" Kelly, the owner of the shop, chirped as I walked in. She was a human, but as nice as they come. She was also young to own a beauty salon, only twenty-five.
“Good morning, Kelly." I hurried to put my things away, hoping the nausea would subside soon. This seemed to be the worst day so far.
Kelly crossed the room and sat in the hydraulic chair next to my station. “If you didn't feel well, you shouldn't have come in."
“I'm fine," I lied. I was a single and possibly pregnant wolf. There was nothing fine about it. “I probably just have a stomach bug." Suddenly, another wave of nausea rushed over me, and I darted to the bathroom with my hand over my mouth and vomited the contents of my stomach into the toilet again. It seemed that I shouldn't have anything left to vomit, but my body was telling me differently.
Taria was leaning against the wall outside the bathroom when I came out. “How far along are you?"
“What?" I laughed without humor. “What are you talking about?"
“Lycia, don't play dumb with me." She waved a hand toward me. “Any fool could see that you're pregnant."
“Shush!" I looked around to see if anyone had heard, but no one was in the back. “I don't know for sure yet. But—"
“But you think you are," Taria finished. “I'll tell you what. Let's get a pregnancy test on our lunch break, and you can take it from there."
I closed the door and locked it so I wouldn't be interrupted again. This was the moment of truth. I quickly did what the test said, and then set the plastic stick on the side of the sink and waited.
I closed my eyes, afraid to look, but then slowly opened them. Sure enough, two bright pink lines were clearly visible in the test window. I blinked, unable to believe it, although I already knew it was correct.
I flushed the toilet again, packed everything into the shopping bag, washed my hands, and headed out.
My thoughts went to my mystery man, and I wondered what he would think about it. But I was glad that the baby would just be mine. I never wanted him to feel like he had to marry me just because I was pregnant. It was a moot point now, anyway, because I didn't even know his name. But I could take care of myself. I didn't need a man to take care of me. But now that I was going to have a baby, it wasn't going to be just me anymore, leaving me to wonder what I was going to do.
---
Logan
I slipped into my black Italian loafers I kept polished for occasions such as these. But before I slipped into my suit coat, I strapped on my shoulder holster, making sure it was loaded. Then I slipped on my suit coat and shoved some loaded magazines in the inside pockets, knowing it was going to be one of those nights. After that, I strapped a knife to my left ankle and another pistol to my right leg, just in case.
Ready, I headed down the stairs, and Siren, Marshall, and two other men were waiting for me in the foyer.
“Are you loaded?"
“Aye!" they all said in unison.
“Are the cars ready?"
Marshall nodded. “We'll go in the limo, and the other men will ride in the Mercedes that will follow us. Also, there's a driver for each car." He was letting me know precisely how many were in our detail, just in case everything went sideways. We didn't want to take down any of our own people by mistake, but that rarely happened.
I nodded once and looked over my Crew. “Remember: No one goes down without my say. Got it?"
“Aye!"
I looked out the window as we drove, wondering where my lady was and what she was doing. I never thought of her with another man. I couldn't bear it. In my mind, she was already my Mate. She didn't know it yet, but she was mine. And when I found her, I was going to make her my wife and my Mate.
We pulled to a stop in front of a single-story house, and we all slid out of the cars. I headed toward the front door with Siren and Marshall hot on my heels. I kicked open the door and a woman screamed, holding up her hands, but I went straight for the man.
“Quick! Is there anyone else in the house?" I fisted his hair, pulling his head back.
“Yes! My son and daughter!" the man shook, holding up his hands. “Please, kill me if you must, but don't kill my wife and children!"
“Call them out here!" I yelled, pointing my pistol at his wife.
“What the heck is going on in here?" a young wolf asked as he stepped into the room. He saw what was going on and lunged toward me, but Marshall quickly pinned him against the wall by the throat, growling.
“Do as we say, and no one has to die!" I yelled in his face and turned to his father. “Now, call your daughter out here!"
“What the heck?"
My head snapped up, and I nearly fainted as my heart pounded in my ears. At that moment, I knew exactly what I was going to do.
Before I could stop her, Siren crossed the room to her and pointed a pistol in her face. But she reared back her hand and slapped Siren across the face as hard as she could. I couldn't help but be in awe of her.
“Get that thing out of my face, and don't point it at me unless you plan on using it!" she yelled.
Siren chuckled, undeterred. “Oh, honey. I plan on using it."
“No!" I yelled. “Siren, don't!"
Her head snapped up as she narrowed her eyes, silently asking why I had used her name. We never used our real names while on the job.
But a job was a job. Time for business.
“Is there anyone else in the house?" I demanded, fisting the man's white hair, yanking back his head. He looked young, despite his white hair.
“No, no one!" he yelled, trembling. “I'm sorry I'm late with your payment, but I don't have the money—"
“Late?" I scoffed. “You're six months behind on your payments! We've warned you and threatened you, but now it's time to pay with your life."
“No, don't!" I looked up, and Siren had a pistol pointed at the woman, and Marshall had her brother against the wall.
I released him and stood. “Then I'll make you a deal."
“What kind of deal?" Gage Owen asked.
“Give me your daughter, and I'll consider your debt paid in full."
“What?" Marshall and Siren yelled in unison, their eyes wide as if I had lost my mind.
“Do you know how much money he owes? What will Fa—" Marshall almost asked.
“I'm making the decisions here," I growled, cutting him off.
He nodded once, leaving the sentence unfinished.
I turned back to Gage. “If you give me your daughter, I'll consider your debt paid in full.
But first things first. “Yes. You have my word." Bile crept up my throat, unable to believe that the man would give his daughter away so freely to pay his debt.
“No, you can't take her!" her mother yelled, tears streaming down her cheeks. “She's pregnant!" |
