SAVING TRENTON DOGS 2023 ENDS WITH A CHEW AND A SNOOZE<br /> CAS Makes a Donation to Trenton Animal Shelter and Yardley Kennels<br /> <br /> Beginning this past summer, in response to a plea to save Trenton Animal Shelter dogs at risk of being put down, The Crossings Animal Society (CAS) began sponsoring several of the dogs. <br /> <br /> Through the generosity of our supporters, we were able to pay nearly $15,000 in kennel fees for several Trenton dogs being housed at Yardley Animal Kennels. Doing so effectively removed them from the “kill list”. By year’s end, we had sponsored 12 dogs, at least 7 of whom are either adopted or with a foster family. The rest remain safe at the kennel.<br /> <br /> It turns out we were part of a larger effort to save these dogs throughout the last half of 2023. Only two dogs were put down during that period, both evaluated and deemed to be dangerous to the community.<br /> <br /> Last weekend, after a delay due to nasty weather, we completed our last task of Saving Trenton Dogs 2023. With some monies remaining, and an additional $500 grant awarded when Rosie, adopted from Trenton Animal Shelter, received the most votes for our pet calendar contest, we purchased some needed items and visited both locations.<br /> <br /> Our donation consisted of 18 Kuranda beds, very durable dog beds that the shelter had requested, 100 large nylabones for heavy chewers, and two bubble machines. The donation was split between the shelter and the kennel.<br /> <br /> The photos are of the CAS volunteers making the donations in both locations. Despite our efforts to make the delivery in good weather, by the time we arrived at the shelter it was raining. So our volunteers, along with shelter co-manager Emanuel and just about the sweetest pocket pittie you’ve ever seen, graciously got wet while I took their photo.<br /> <br /> Thank you to our volunteers who build the beds and delivered the donation – Sue, Marella, Karen, Joel, Catherine, and Svetlana. And a special thank you to all the supporters of Saving Trenton Dogs whose donations made all this possible.<br /> <br /> Saving Trenton Dogs 2024 will be kicking off in April, with a new approach both to enrich the lives of the dogs at the shelter and assist in reducing the shelter population.<br /> <br /> Please stay tuned.
