Body | Most of you have probably heard that Dr. Kelly is retiring and Olean Veterinary Clinic is closing. Dr. Kelly's retirement will leave a huge hole in Olean and he will be missed. We wish him a happy retirement!

We are expecting to see many Dr. Kelly clients as they work to get established with family vets and are happy and willing to help however we can! Please read on for a list of ways that we can (and can't) offer help during this time of transition.

First of all - always call or text us before coming in at (716) 257-4830.

1) Aid in finding a new vet: We maintain a list of semi-local vets who are accepting new patients. This list is not exhaustive but we try to keep it up-to-date. (If you are a local vet taking patients and would like to be added to our list, please send us a text or give us a call!)

2) Prescription refills: Many people may find themselves without a way to refill their prescriptions while waiting to get established with a new vet. Every pet will be required to come in so that a legal medical relationship can be established but then we will be able to provide prescriptions for that pet. If you are planning to come in for this reason, please come in on a weekday as we do not accept appointments, we operate on a triage basis, and we tend to be very busy with emergencies on the weekends. If you decide to come in on the weekend for the purposes of getting a prescription for a chronic medication, be prepared to wait several hours. You will need to bring your current prescriptions with you or your medical records.

3) Vaccines: Consider going to the vaccine clinics held by VIP Petcare at Tractor Supply or Pet Supplies Plus. We do carry a stock of vaccines and administer them on a case-by-case basis. For instance, if your pet needs to be urgently boarded and you discover their vaccines need updating. Or if you just found a cute puppy or kitten by the side of the road and it will be 2 months until you can get established with a family vet. Again, please plan to come during the week if you are looking for this sort of non-urgent care.

4) We do not do routine surgery such as spays or neuters

If you have a need not covered by this list, please reach out and we will help in any way we can.

**Please be patient with us especially if you are coming in with a non-urgent issue. Sick and injured pets will always take precedence over non-urgent issues. Remember that we are trying to help and it is a legal requirement that we examine all pets before prescribing medications for them.**

Lastly, Dr. Kelly's retirement is a huge loss for our community. But the future is bright! We personally know of three local young people who are starting vet school and hopefully will return to us in the next few years. The best thing we can do is mentor and encourage the next generation and make Olean and the surrounding areas a wonderful place to return to! |
