| Body | I watched an interview with two fairly controversial people where one asked the other if they were “sinful” because they were engaged in a homosexual relationship. While scripture gives us a pretty clear idea of how the church is to approach homosexuality, I don’t think that’s the main takeaway of this topic. The main point is that being gay isn’t what sends you to hell anymore than being a liar or a gossip does. It’s the distance between us as humans and a holy God that creates that problem. The separation between creature and creator is the problem. We are sinful by virtue of being alive. “Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; And in sin did my mother conceive me.” One of the enemies favorite tools to use against us is pride in where and from whom we come from. Only problem is we have a sin NATURE and there’s not a whole lot we can do about it. HOWEVER “My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.” Being sinful from birth is not a bug, it’s a feature. Our very flesh fights against us from the moment we’re conceived. We all have tendencies and proclivities that may have been inherited from a young age. Whether by nature or nurture, we are inherently on the wrong track. Do yourself a favor. Deny yourself, know your enemy, and trust in God. |
