Body | Over the past few days, I ran a Radon Test on each level of our home. I've been taught that as a rule of thumb, radon levels tend to go down by 50% per floor as you go up from the lowest level, and that generally proves fairly accurate. Our house is a 2 story with a walk out basement. The main floor living room ceiling is open to the 2nd floor/loft area. I have tested the basement in the past and results were usually between 1.5-2.5pCi/L. The WHO recommends mitigation above 2.7 and the EPA suggests considering mitigation between 2.0-4.0 and recommends mitigation above 4.0. So I figured the rest of the house was pretty low. There's nothing magical about 3.99. Radon doesn't stop causing lung cancer below 4.0, but some experts at some point decided 4.0 was a realistic goal we could mitigate most or all homes to. This most recent test results showed that while my basement radon level was 2.7pCi/L, the main floor living room where we spend aa lot of time was 3.0pCi/L and the 2nd floor bedroom where my boys sleep was 2.7pCi/L just like the basement. I'll be having our team install a mitigation system on Tuesday. And I'm going to urge each of you to consider this chart. Think about where your kids sleep, where your work out room is, and how confident you are that this silent killer isn't shaving days or years off your life and the lives of your loved ones.
