| Body | Let me just start this post off by saying I am a big fan of Ryan Poles and I want the bears to keep him. With that being said there has been a problem since he got here and he honestly has done a poor job addressing it. Games have always been won in the trenches and the Bears while improved from the last couple years are still weak and thin in the trenches most recently highlighted by the Andrew billings injury. Poles has tried to find “steals” in the trenches with signings such as Al-Quadin Muhammad year one, Justin Jones signing year one, drafting Dominique Robinson and Austin Booker in round 5 in there respective drafts, signing Jacob Martin this past off season and trading a 6th round pick for both Chris Williams and Darell Taylor this preseason. While there are some good players in there, there are also some big misses and none of those guys are necessary guys to start/build around. The thing that is upsetting is that when he has invested in the trenches it has generally worked out with trading a second for Montez Sweat and drafting Gervon Dexter in the second. I think this defense is really missing a run stuffing big nose tackle that can just consume blocks. Guys like Jordan Davis or Tvondre Sweat type player. And it’s the same exact way on the offensive line trying to find hidden gems instead of investing. Again to be fair he tried to invest with Nate Davis but completely fell out. I think the O-line is missing a veteran center like Ryan Kelly would be perfect this offseason.
