🔬 IL-11 Research Update

We have some good news concerning our N-of-1 trial to find the best natural promotor of IL-11 cytokine inhibition. It was recently found that inhibiting IL-11 might have profound anti-aging effects. You can read about the study here:

In a process similar to what was used while developing NEUROmergence, we've been experimenting with various natural compounds purported to inhibit IL-11. Utilizing Western blot, one compound and one combination of two compounds were tested, each with three samples, over two 30-day periods (with 15 days in between test compounds). Our first set of tests utilized pure Osthole at 90mg/kg, and unfortunately, it exhibited little to no effect. One particular study found that the bioavailability of pure Osthole, after oral administration, was extremely low. When examining the medicinal properties of a traditional Chinese prescription known as Bushen Yizhi, it was discovered that Osthole's effectiveness was due to the combination with other herbs in the formulation. An additional study on the bioavailability of Osthole hypothesized that Osthole's effects were actually activated by Schisandrin B. So, for the second set of tests, we combined isolated Schisandrin B with Osthole, and we were able to identify a much more noticeable impact on IL-11 levels over the 30 day period. This experiment has brought us much closer to developing a natural IL-11 reducing* supplement.

Pure Osthole is not an FDA-compliant ingredient, and neither is Schisandrin B. So now our challenge is to develop one extract standardized to a high percentage of Osthole, most likely Cnidium monnieri or Angelica pubescens, to combine with another extract (possibly Schisandra but we have other leads) that is standardized to a high level of Schisandrin B. Finally, we would need to extract it down to a level that is palatable for the supplement market, then retest for IL-11 inhibition, similar to what we did with NEUROmergence®. There is a possibility that we will instead offer an IL-11 support tincture, similar to, or perhaps the same as Bushen Yizhi, alongside other TCM tinctures, which leads us to our next update!
