DC Public Library Family Holiday Festival

DC Public Library's Books from Birth and Beyond the Book programs invite your family to celebrate the holidays and kick off Winter Challenge with us at the MLK Library!

Write your own winter stories at our book-making station;
Create and decorate fun crafts for keeping or gifting;
Enjoy guest readings by beloved children’s characters;
Sing to family karaoke;
Take a free family portrait;
Get active at the get-up and move station;

You can also sign up for Books from Birth, the Beyond the Book Club, AND the Washington Wizards Winter Reading Challenge!

About Books from Birth
Books from Birth, in partnership with Imagination Library, is a program where all D.C. residents with children ages Birth - 5 can receive a FREE book each month in the mail! Families that sign up for Books from Birth at birth can build their home library with up to 60 quality children's books. Families now also have the option to select English-Spanish bi-lingual titles. To register, complete the online form or speak with a staff member at your neighborhood library to complete a paper form.

About Beyond the Book
Beyond the Book is a literacy program sponsored by the DC Public Library Foundation centered on developing readers in kindergarten through third grade. By highlighting vibrant stories on a seasonal basis that represent the wonders of children's literature, Beyond the Book aims to inspire children and families to discover the many resources the library offers.Children in kindergarten through third grade across the District are invited to sign up for Beyond the Book. Your membership includes:

A Beyond the Book Club membership card
A monthly newsletter with tips and tricks for developing readers
A free copy of the seasonal Featured Book and/or Activity Packet (While supplies last)
Exclusive invites to author talks and other fun family events
To register, visit your neighborhood library, or use the online registration form then stop by your neighborhood library to pick up your membership card.

About Winter Challenge
Discover a world of winter fun at your neighborhood library! From Dec. 9, 2024 - Feb. 28, 2025 children and teens can sign up to check out great reads, enjoy fun events and participate in healthy activities for a chance to win great prizes from DC Public Library and The Washington Wizards. Visit your neighborhood library to pick up a paper gameboard or sign up online using Beanstack starting on Dec. 9. Complete five activities in a row on your Winter Challenge Bingo board—vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. Once you have five in a row, you've got Bingo! Visit any DC Public Library with your complete gameboard or show your Beanstack completion to collect your prize and enter the grand prize raffle between Feb. 1 and Mar. 21, 2025, while supplies last.
