Ransom Everglades Marine Field Research Class | Visiting the Coral Restoration Foundation in Key Largo, Florida (10/6)

My Marine Field Research (MFR) -@ransomevergladesscuba - classmates and I arrived at our school before 6 a.m. for our bus ride south to Key Largo, Florida to the offices of the @coralrestorationfoundation.

The group spent time with the Coral Restoration Foundation staff members and learned about the important work the organization is doing to grow and outplant endangered species of coral in order to restore local reef sites to a healthy state.

Afterward, we hopped on a boat at the @silentworlddivecenter and traveled out to Carysfort Coral Nursery to help with the work of cleaning their coral trees.

Then, we traveled to Horseshoe Reef and did a dive to observe and record the current health of the various coral in the area.

It was a FANTASTIC day-long adventure that taught my classmates and I vital information about our oceans' fragile ecosystem as well as informed us about the valuable efforts by organizations like the Coral Restoration Foundation to preserve it.

Huge thanks to our MFR teachers, Dr. Kelly Jackson and Dr. Brooke Gintert, as well as the Coral Restoration Foundation staff and the Silent World Dive Center team for making this class trip possible.🤿🪸🐠
