For those of you that are newer here…#MuMuMansion was originally the home I grew up in-a beautiful 100 year old 4 plex in Midcity that my great grandparents bought. I moved back in, urgently, after my divorce turned violent, and my then 89 year old grandmother (also Melinda-I’m the 5th 🙏🏻) who was living in my childhood unit needed overnight care. I had a one year old son, and the safest place in the world was my childhood bedroom, with my grandma in the next room. I took care of her for 12 years-until shortly after her 100th birthday.

Two weeks after I opened the shop in November 2022, she transitioned. 🕊️
And not long after that, it became clear my family could not afford to keep the property. In one of, if not the, biggest heartbreak of my life-I had to prepare the property to be photographed and sold out from under me.

I had leaned heavily in to interior design during the pandemic-when my FASHION sense made zero sense (the robe you’ve seen in my stories lately was my entire wardrobe from 2020-2022). I had no idea I’d be making the house beautiful to help get it sold 💔.

While we currently still get to live here, thanks to Los Angeles’ strong tenant protections-I now have a landlord, and the worst kind. I won’t go in to here-but it has been difficult to say the least-and it kept me from wanting to make the house nicer in any way.

These photos were taken by a photographer for the listing-the literal only upside of the sale. I did a full interior design project earlier this year-but never took proper photos🤦🏻‍♀️. So when I saw these in 70k photos on my phone (storage is full so I’m currently in the bath attempting to back up), I felt a wave of emotions. My probably unhealthy emotional attachment to this house-that I was raised in, that I raised my son in, that I rebuilt a new family in, that I fed and changed grandma in. I have known the family downstairs since I was 5 years old and they moved in with their young baby. The husband died last week💔-leaving the wife and daughter to figure out how to keep going, how to pay the rent and stay in THEIR family home-with a new hostile landlord. It just all feels so tender, and surreal sometimes. ⬇️
