Body | Three brothers, half werewolf, half vampire, the most powerful supernatural beings ever. A thief who dresses as a man for safety. Glancing back, I see the big, bald, pissed-off dude chasing me. He's about six feet tall and having a tough time moving through the crowd with his big frame, bumping into people who snap back at him angrily. While he's tied up with some mad guy, I slip into an alley blocked by the crowd. I sprint and hide behind a dumpster, waiting for him to pass the entrance, and yep, there he goes. I stand up and keep moving down the alley, pulling out the wallet I just nabbed. Checking it, I see it belongs to a Tom Ford according to his driver’s license, and inside, there's 135 bucks. That's a win, considering most folks carry cards, not cash. I pocket the cash and toss the wallet into another dumpster I pass by. I pull down my hood and fix my short, black wig. Good thing my makeup is waterproof, or my guy disguise would be running down my face right now. Usually, people don't even realize their wallet’s gone until I’m long gone. But today, I messed up big time. I dropped the wallet just after I snatched it. I decided to scoop it up and book it while Tom was still in shock that I'd actually steal it. I’ve been in this game for seven years, been alive for twenty-two, and it’s usually easy to tell when someone’s gonna come after you. Tom caught me red-handed, looking mad enough to chase, so I figured why not make a run for it with the cash? Better to have the money and a fake description out there than nothing at all. If I got caught, I’d be screwed either way, cause he saw me take it, and I doubt he’d buy it if I said he dropped it. It was in a pretty deep pocket, after all. When I walk into the alley behind Chaos, I spot five guys standing in the middle of it, by the club's backdoor. If I were dressed as a girl, I'd have turned around to avoid any drunk weirdos, but luckily, I'm in my male disguise today. Dressing up as Ronald Baker makes me feel safer, keeps me off the radar because I'm seen as just another guy, and the creeps out here are usually after young, vulnerable girls. There was this one time a guy thought he could mess with me because I looked smaller, probably an easy target, he thought. Well, he was wrong. I pulled out my switchblade, and he backed off real fast. I often use this male disguise when I'm out doing my thieving stuff or if I'm hired for a job, which usually involves stealing something specific for someone. It's a good way to dodge those looking for revenge or the cops. They're all on the lookout for a guy, so I can just slip by them later as a girl. Back in the alley, three of the five guys, all with black hair, have their backs to me. The other two seem to be kneeling in front of them, begging. I keep moving slowly and quietly, trying to get past without drawing any attention. As I get closer, I can see the fear on their faces as they look my way. The light from the door shines down, highlighting the tears on their faces. I stop in my tracks, not wanting to get any closer to whatever mess they're in. It's pretty intense, seeing two grown men begging, crying, and trembling like that. I think one of them might have even peed himself. I decide to just hang back and wait for them to finish up and clear out so I can go through. "P-p-please M-Master, s-spare me. It wasn't m-my fault. Omar was the one who didn't check if they were VIPs," the guy on the left stutters out, while Omar, I guess that's his name, frantically shakes his head, his eyes wide with fear. "N-n-no, I didn't see them enter," Omar shoots back, clearly panicking. "I agree, Matt. Who knew we had idiots doing such an important job? They just let anyone walk in and mess up our meeting. You idiots couldn't even do the simple job of checking a card and deciding, yup, that's a VIP or nope, you can't enter. Because of your brainless heads, they didn't surrender!" the man to the right yells. His voice sends another shiver through me. He's a bit shorter than Matt but looks the most muscular. "Killian, stop yelling. You'll draw unwanted attention," the third man, as tall as the first, reprimands with a stern, annoyed voice. I fight off another shiver. "They aren’t going to refuse us. They’d be stupid to say no when they know we're just trying to avoid the trouble of wiping out their whole clan. They just got scared by the damn fools these two let slip through," he says, facing Killian. "Horace is right, they know they're as good as dead if they refuse to surrender," Matt adds, talking to Killian. His words seem to relax the two kneeling men a bit. "But I'm still going to kill you two. You failed your job and could've messed up our business." Matt moves before the men can even react. He grabs one guy, Omar, by the head and twists, snapping his neck. Before Omar hits the ground, he snaps the other guy’s neck too. They both fall, dead. I gasp in terror before I can stop myself. All three men turn to look at me. Scared as I am, I can't help but notice how gorgeous they are. It's clear they're related—they all look similar but have distinct features. Their eyes, hair, and facial expressions are the most noticeable differences. Matt has blue eyes and looks furious. His black hair is cut short on the sides and longer on top, styled back, giving him a sleek, powerful look. Killian has green eyes and looks a bit shocked. His hair is a chocolate brown, also short on the sides and longer on top, but unlike Matt's sleek style, his is messy, carefree, and slightly curly. Horace, with gray eyes behind black-framed glasses, has an indifferent expression. His hair is the lightest, with different shades of brown and some blonde streaks, pulled up in a man bun. Matt slowly creeps towards me, with Killian and Horace a little behind him. As they get closer, they all suddenly freeze, lift their noses, and sniff the air. Whatever they're smelling makes their eyes go black... I blink a few times, thinking my eyes are playing tricks on me. Nope. Their eyes are still black. Maybe it’s just stress messing with my head. Shock and disbelief flicker across their faces before they all growl… Growl? "No. Freaking. Way!" Killian yells, grabbing his head. "I am not gay! I only like my own junk, especially when it's inside a tight, wet... well, you know!" "There’s got to be a mistake, our mate can’t be a guy. Nope. I don’t swing that way. Maybe he was near our real mate and got her scent on him," Matt says, turning to the others while running his hand through his hair. "There's no mistake. I know we're not gay; we would've figured that out by now. But the scent is too strong to be just rubbed off. Plus, when I looked into his eyes, I felt it, and I bet you guys did too. He is our mate," Horace insists, rubbing his face in disbelief, causing Killian to let out a shocked yell. While they're busy arguing about whatever the heck is going on, I take my chance and bolt as fast and quietly as I can out of the alley. "Maybe the goddess got it wrong and thought the little guy was a girl when assigning...," I hear Killian saying to the others as I pick up my pace, running faster, thankful they're too caught up in their discussion to notice me slipping away. When I hit the main street, I see a cab pulling up to pick up two drunk girls on the curb. I sprint over and slide into the cab before they can even stand up straight. I urge the driver to head to the other side of the city in a panic, not wanting to risk them realizing I’m gone until I’m long out of reach. |
