Glad to welcome Coach Jerry Knowlton to the Millington, TN Administration building. Coach Knowlton coached me in track and football at Millington starting the summer of my 8th-grade year through my high school career. He was a volunteer coach at the time and was still serving in the Memphis Police Department.

In 2007, our team went further than any other Millington team before or after. Coach Knowlton was there as a coach and father to Millington great, and our star running back, Eric Knowlton.

A ball commemorating the 2007 season sits on my bookshelf in a case next to my desk.

That season, we lost the state semifinal by one point in front of a packed crowd of our family and friends. The season taught me a lot of life lessons: hard work, teamwork, and how to deal with a loss. The next year, in 2008, we went undefeated again and won the region again.

During those years, I was never the biggest, strongest, or fastest, but Coach Knowlton and others taught me that good form, consistency, and hard work make up for all of that.

I appreciate Coach Knowlton for coming by to visit, reminisce, and giving me an opportunity to bust this old football out of its display case. I will always be grateful for his service as a coach during those formative years. Nice
