After three years of marriage to Levi, he still despised me for being a fool who didn't even know to cry when in pain.

I woke up to find a strange boy sitting beside me, scrolling through his phone.

"How are you feeling? Do you need me to call the doctor?"

Memories of the excruciating pain as the iron rod smashed into my hand again and again flooded back. The sound of bones shattering seemed to still echo in my ears.

The boy's expression was grave. "I've already called the police. They said they'll check the nearby security footage first. I'll do my best to testify too."

Just then, an anxious male voice rang out: "You can't call the police!"

It was Levi.

He rushed to my side, but his first words weren't to ask about my condition. Instead, he grabbed my injured right hand.

"You can't call the police! Callie didn't mean to do it!"

I let out a muffled groan of pain, cold sweat trickling down my forehead.

Without a word, the strange boy shoved him away. "Are you crazy? Do you want Seraphina to become disabled?"

Levi was pushed hard onto the floor, his elbow hitting the bedside table. He sucked in a sharp breath of pain, then looked at me with teary eyes, only to be met with my icy stare.

Levi gazed at me in disbelief.

It was understandable. After all, even when I was treated like a little fool before, I would still gently hug him when he was sad and clumsily try to comfort him.

Levi carefully said, "Seraphina, Callie didn't mean it. She's from a poor family, works during the day, and even has a part-time job at night. She must have been exhausted and accidentally bumped into you."

This really a lame excuse.

Levi believed it wholeheartedly, simply because he liked Callie.

In my clouded mind, the only thing I could think of was what Levi had once told me.

"Remember, silly girl, if you're ever in danger, just tell your phone, 'Call hubby,' and I'll come to rescue you."

I did exactly that.

With my blood-soaked, trembling hands, I struggled to reach my phone that had been thrown aside.

In a feeble voice, I dialed that number.
