Thursday Nights at the Museum: History of Black Fashion | Thursday, February 1 | 5:00–8:00PM

Join us for a program celebrating historical and contemporary Black fashion in St. Louis. After a short presentation, curator Gwen Moore will interview master tailor Mr. Raymond Dennis and Dr. Merdean Fielding Gales, who was involved with the Ebony Fashion Fair and the world of Black models in St. Louis. We’ll close the evening with a panel of contemporary Black fashion insiders who will share their thoughts on what Black fashion means today. Moderated by Monique Levy, former CEO of the Saint Louis Fashion Fund, the panel will include fashion expert and brand advocate AK Brown; “Economy of Style” fashion influencer Psyche Southwell; and Timothy Moore, founder of the St. Louis Black Fashion Week.

Black Saint Louis With Calvin Riley | Tuesday, February 13 | 11am

Join author Calvin Riley for a talk about his new book, "Black Saint Louis." Riley, the founder and executive director of the George B. Vashon Museum, will share how he established the institution and built a collection that reflects the stories of St. Louis Black culture over the past 250 years. Located on St. Louis’s historic “Millionaires’ Row,” the George B. Vashon Museum holds more than 10,000 artifacts, including the newly added Julius B. Hunter Collection. "Black Saint Louis" explores the rich history of African Americans in St. Louis—from the city’s founding as a French fur-trading post to the Spanish colonial era to the new millennium—and tells the stories of extraordinary people who helped pave the way for the St. Louis we know today.

Thursday Nights at the Museum: Black History and the Disability Rights Movement | Thursday, February 29 | 5:30–8:00pm

Strongly influenced by the civil rights movement, the disability rights movement emerged in the late 20th century. Several Black leaders played critical roles in both movements, highlighting the intersectionality of Black and disabled identities and the ways both have been rendered invisible. Join us for a panel program to hear about the experiences of Black individuals with disabilities who have confronted both racism and ableism, as well as the contributions that Black people with disabilities have made to the disability rights movement. The program will conclude with a performance by guitarist and singer Deb Bush of the Angel Band Project. ASL interpretation will be provided.
