Body | Calvin sat at his desk, glancing over the reports in front of him, though his mind was miles away. Everything Alex had said this morning was still fresh in his head, and for once, he found himself caught off guard by his own reactions. Normally, he had a strict rule: no names. No names meant no attachment. He knew the names of every single employee in the building, but he rarely used them. Calling someone by their name could give them the wrong impression, could lead to unnecessary conversations, even attachment. And attachment was a risk he wasn’t willing to take. Alexander, however, was persistent. He had to be. Calvin had avoided calling his name for as long as possible, but when Alex refused to answer him without it, Calvin had been forced to use it. Despite wanting to fire him several times for his insubordination, he had to admit that Alexander was damn good at his job. Better than any PA before him. None of them had lasted more than two months. Alex was the first to stick it out, despite Calvin’s notorious cold demeanor. He wasn’t here to be warm or sweet. He was here to work, and that was the way he liked it. If others couldn’t handle the pressure, that was their problem, not his. Still, he couldn’t help but wonder how this morning’s conversation had spiraled so quickly. When he arrived at the office earlier, he hadn't anticipated such a strange and awkward exchange with his PA. Yet here they were. He had always suspected Alex was gay, but it wasn't until this morning when Alex’s flustered admission slipped out that Calvin began to think it might actually be true. Alex had called him hot, and the nervous tension that followed had been amusing to witness. "Are you firing me?" Alex had asked, his face flushed and his cheek already gnawed raw from nervous biting. "For thinking I'm hot?" Calvin raised an eyebrow, suppressing a smile. He was good at masking his emotions. He had learned long ago that showing them made you weak. And weakness? That was something people preyed on. "I said it about the girl—" Alex tried to backtrack, but Calvin raised a hand, silencing him. "I'll fire you if you're lying," Calvin warned. "Don’t insult my intelligence." Alex sighed, his gaze darting around the room, avoiding Calvin’s eyes. Then, finally, in a voice filled with defeat, he admitted, "Okay, yes. I think you're hot." Calvin almost laughed. Almost. It took all his effort not to. "I see. Are you gay?" Alex narrowed his eyes, incredulous. "I think it's self-explanatory, don't you?" That was when Calvin had lost control of his composure and chuckled, the sound foreign even to himself. "You see, Alex," he said, his voice laced with amusement, "you're unbearable." Alex huffed, rolling his eyes, clearly irritated. "And is it nice to talk to your hot boss like that?" Calvin pressed between bouts of laughter. The glare Alex gave him could have set the room on fire. He opened his mouth, thought better of it, and clamped it shut, biting his lip to keep from speaking out of turn. Calvin's amusement only grew. "Alexander," Calvin said deliberately, knowing full well how much Alex hated it when he used his full name. Alex visibly cringed at the sound, turning his gaze away again. "As long as my boss is being an ass, yes, it’s nice," Alex finally shot back, his voice dripping with sarcasm. Calvin couldn’t help but chuckle again. "Hot boss. Don’t forget that," Calvin teased, watching as Alex clenched his jaw and took a deep breath, likely to calm himself. Calvin loved seeing how close he could push Alex to the edge of losing control. "Sorry, sexy. I promise it won’t happen again," Alex said with an exasperated shrug. "Sexy?" Calvin was amused by his PA’s defiance, raising an eyebrow. "You asked for it." Alex leaned back, his mischievous expression betraying a newfound boldness. "And before you make any more comments or ask any other uncomfortable questions, let me remind you that I can be just as much of an ass. And I can make you feel uncomfortable too." "Really? How?" "That’s my secret," Alex said, his tone a mix of honesty and a subtle threat. His eyes warned Calvin not to push too far, but today, Calvin felt like walking the fine line. "So, have you stayed this long because I’m hot?" Calvin continued the string of questions, his curiosity piqued. Alex clicked his tongue and shook his head as though Calvin had made the wrong move. His cheeks were still flushed, but his eyes held a spark of mischief. He began to openly rake his gaze down Calvin’s body, slowly and deliberately. The tension in the room thickened. "The paycheck is good," Alex started, his voice lower now, "but coming here in the morning and being welcomed by this…" He gestured toward Calvin, then licked his lips in slow motion. Calvin felt his pulse quicken. "This is what keeps me going," Alex admitted, his eyes growing darker with desire. "I honestly don’t listen to you most of the time. That’s why I don’t get angry. I’m too busy staring at your lips and imagining things." Calvin swallowed hard, his mouth dry as Alex's gaze burned through him. He wasn’t used to being looked at like that—certainly not by another man. "And then there's your body," Alex continued, his voice growing bolder with every word. "The best part is after three o'clock when you finally take off that suit jacket and roll up your sleeves, revealing those damn sexy tattoos. If I had been straight, I would’ve turned gay in my first week. And if I go any further, I might need to take an early break." Calvin was speechless. The hunger in Alex's eyes was intimidating, foreign. It was something Calvin had never faced before. And for the first time in his life, he found himself unsure of what to say. "Do you still want us to play?" Alex's voice broke the silence, and Calvin found himself struggling to form a coherent response. He wasn’t physically affected by what Alex said—or was he? He wasn’t used to this kind of attention. No man had ever looked at him like that. Hell, no woman had ever looked at him like that. But Calvin couldn’t let Alex know he was shaken. He was the boss, damn it. And he had a reputation to maintain. Straight as a razor. "Well, if you think you’ve succeeded in intimidating me, you're wrong," Calvin said confidently, trying to sound smug, even though Alex’s eyes were locked on his lips, not his eyes. And when Calvin made the mistake of asking what Alex had been imagining, the floodgates opened. Alex's voice dropped lower, sultry and almost threatening as he confessed his thoughts out loud. And for the first time in his life, Calvin felt a wave of intimidation that had nothing to do with power and everything to do with something deeper, more primal. Too bad Alex wasn't straight. Or maybe, Calvin thought, too bad he wasn't gay. |
