Calvin sat at his desk, staring at the computer screen, though his mind was miles away. His morning had already been derailed by an unexpected conversation with Alexander, his personal assistant, and he hadn’t seen it coming. Everything felt surreal. His face remained stoic as always, but beneath the surface, he was wrestling with an internal storm. He didn’t expect today to unfold like this.

He sighed inwardly. It wasn’t that he didn’t know his employees' names. He did. He just preferred not to use them. Calling people by their names gave them the wrong impression. A name implied a connection, and that was something Calvin couldn’t afford. Names led to conversations, conversations led to attachments, and attachments—well, they made you weak.

Alexander had always been insistent about it. He hated being called by his full name. He wanted Calvin to call him "Alex." But Calvin refused. Shortened names were nicknames, and nicknames were dangerous. Nicknames led to relationships, and that wasn’t the point of their work. Still, there were times—like today—when he had no choice but to use Alexander’s name, just to get his attention.

"I wanted to fire him so many times," Calvin mused silently, suppressing a smile as he thought about the PA’s stubbornness. Alexander could be unbearable, and he didn’t always listen. But, as the man constantly reminded him, he was damn good at what he did. He was also the first PA Calvin had managed to keep for more than two months. That, in itself, was a miracle. Calvin wasn’t easy to work for—he knew that—but it wasn’t his job to coddle anyone.

This morning, though, had brought something different, something Calvin hadn’t expected. When he came into the office, he was greeted not with the usual morning briefing but with an awkward conversation that left him… unsettled.

“I don’t know if he’s gay or not,” Calvin thought as he recalled the moment Alexander called him "hot." It had caught him off guard. Calvin had managed to maintain his usual calm exterior, but he could feel the heat in the room rise as Alexander’s face flushed, his eyes wide and panicked.

"Are you firing me?" Alexander finally broke the silence after Calvin demanded he sit back down.

“What for?” Calvin asked, raising an eyebrow, suppressing a smile.

“For thinking that you’re hot?” Alexander's voice wavered as he fidgeted nervously.

Calvin nearly laughed out loud. “I’ll fire you if you’re lying,” he said with a smirk. He was good at this—hiding his emotions under a mask. Showing emotions made you vulnerable, and he’d learned a long time ago that people exploited weakness.

Alexander sighed, finally breaking under the pressure. “Okay, yes. I think you’re hot,” he admitted, his voice defeated, his foot tapping nervously against the floor.

Calvin, amused but careful not to show it, leaned back in his chair. “Are you gay?”

Alexander narrowed his eyes, his expression a mix of disbelief and irritation. “I just said I think you’re hot. Isn’t that self-explanatory?”

Calvin chuckled despite himself. It had been a long time since anyone had spoken to him like that. He couldn't help but find it funny.

“You’re unbearable,” Alexander muttered, rolling his eyes.

Calvin’s laughter escaped before he could stop it. “Is it nice to talk to your hot boss like that?” he teased.

Alexander glared at him, his frustration evident. “As long as my boss is being an ass, yes, it’s nice,” he replied with sarcasm dripping from every word.

Calvin grinned, enjoying the banter. “Hot boss, don’t forget that,” he reminded, watching as Alexander took a deep breath, trying to regain his composure.

The next words caught Calvin off guard, though. “Sorry, sexy. I promise that won’t happen again.”

“Sexy?” Calvin echoed, raising an eyebrow. This was getting interesting.

“You asked for it,” Alexander shrugged, clearly trying to maintain control of the situation.

Calvin leaned forward, challenging him. “Did you stay so long because I’m hot?”

Alexander clicked his tongue in disapproval, shaking his head. “The paycheck’s good, but coming here in the morning and seeing this”—he gestured toward Calvin—"keeps me going."

His eyes roamed Calvin’s body with a blatant boldness that made Calvin momentarily freeze. No one had ever looked at him like that, least of all a man. It was intimidating, and something stirred inside Calvin, though he wasn’t sure what it was.

“I don’t even listen to you half the time,” Alexander continued, his voice casual. “I’m too busy looking at your lips, imagining things.” He licked his bottom lip in slow motion, his eyes dark with something Calvin didn’t want to name. “Then your body… The best part is after 3 PM, when you finally take off your suit jacket and roll up your sleeves, showing those sexy tattoos.”

By now, Calvin’s mind was reeling. His heart beat faster as Alexander’s gaze lingered, his words sinking deeper than Calvin wanted to admit.

“If I had been straight, I would have turned gay in my first week,” Alexander added with a smirk, his eyes unabashedly devouring Calvin.

The silence stretched between them. Calvin wasn’t sure what to say. For the first time in a long while, he was at a loss for words.

Finally, Alexander cleared his throat and shook his head, as if to rid himself of the images flooding his mind. He shifted in his chair, taking deep breaths.

Calvin noticed. Was he…?

Alexander broke the silence with a smirk. “You still want to play this game?”

Calvin swallowed hard. He couldn’t show weakness now, not when Alexander had already gotten under his skin. “If you think you intimidate me, you’re wrong.”

Alexander’s eyes flicked back to his lips, and Calvin suddenly became hyper-aware of every movement. He kept his lips still, afraid to give anything away. But it was too late.

“What did you imagine?” Calvin asked, hoping to throw Alexander off balance.

Alexander’s eyes darkened again as he answered, “How it would feel to kiss you. To feel your lips on my body. Taste your tongue.”

Calvin barely managed to suppress a shiver. “Okay, I declare myself intimidated,” he said, trying to regain control of the situation, though his voice betrayed a sliver of unease.

Alexander chuckled, shaking his head. “Too bad you’re not gay,” he said, standing up.

“Yeah,” Calvin replied, his voice almost too quick. “Too bad.”

Alexander walked out, leaving Calvin in stunned silence. The door clicked shut behind him, and Calvin exhaled slowly. He ran a hand through his hair, trying to shake off the lingering tension.

His gaze lingered on the door, his mind racing.

Next time, Calvin told himself, shut your damn mouth.
