Creamy Crab and Shrimp Casserole with a Crispy Topping

Ingredients:

1 lb lump crab meat, drained and picked over for shells
1/2 lb cooked shrimp, peeled, deveined, and chopped
1 cup celery, finely chopped
1 cup onion, finely chopped
1/2 cup red bell pepper, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 cup Panko breadcrumbs
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley, for garnish
2 tablespoons melted butter (for topping)
Directions:

Preheat Oven & Prepare Baking Dish:

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish and set aside.
Sauté Vegetables:

In a large skillet, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the celery, onion, and red bell pepper, and sauté for about 5 minutes, or until the vegetables are softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
Make the Cream Sauce:

Sprinkle flour over the sautéed vegetables and stir well to combine. Slowly add the milk and heavy cream, whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Cook until the mixture thickens, about 4-5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the Parmesan cheese, Old Bay seasoning, paprika, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and black pepper.
Combine Seafood & Sauce:

Gently fold in the lump crab meat and chopped shrimp, being careful not to break up the crab too much. Mix until everything is evenly coated with the creamy sauce.
Assemble the Casserole:

Pour the seafood mixture into the prepared baking dish. In a small bowl, mix together the Panko breadcrumbs and melted butter, then sprinkle evenly over the top of the casserole.
Bake & Serve:

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is bubbly. Remove from oven and let cool slightly. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
