🔗 in bio. Looking for Directors and Assistant Directors.

▪️Who are we?
We’re a growing production company on campus, dedicated to bringing theater to the larger UC Berkeley community. Focusing on site-specific theater, we aim to break traditional boundaries in the structure and design of theatrical productions by using unorthodox locations, diverse play selections, and creative rehearsal schedules—all to create a unique experience for those involved and an immersive one for our audience.

▪️What will the show look like?
This semester, we present “Debut of the Absurd”, a production featuring a pair of early absurdist one-act plays. Directors will have an opportunity to pitch one-act plays from renowned playwrights such as Eugene Ionesco, Samual Beckett, Edward Albee, Jean Genet, and more. (A complete list can be found on the application.) The production will take place at the First Church on Dwight & Bowditch—a registered U.S. National Historical Landmark, designed by Bernard Maybeck. We’re looking for directors who have a passion for experimental theatre (or are looking to take a stab at a new genre), and can find a way to bring out the comedy, existential depth, and unpredictability of these pieces. This is your chance to create an experience that is at once visually arresting yet intellectually stimulating; take the creative license to explore unique staging designs, character interpretation, and avant-garde storytelling. If you are ready to seek out an extremely imaginative and bold piece, we want to hear from you!

▪️What will the application process look like?
In lieu of long-winded application essays, we’ve opted for longer interviews to get to know you better in-person and see how you might fit into our team. No need to stress! These will be pretty laid back and require minimal preparation, aside from your show proposal. They will be about 30 minutes long at a coffee shop near you.
