Body | At SITE on 10/5: “Recipe #2” by Kelly Taylor Mitchell (@kellytaylormitchell). Recipe #2 is a site-specific installation featuring various hand-strung bead cords, each ranging from 10-12 ft in length, hanging from the ceiling in a circle format that viewers can move in & out of. At the base of each beaded cord is a small pile of brick dust. Batenburg textiles, food offerings, pano da costa textiles, & found objects are also utilized. The chosen space informs the format and layout of the Recipe, & lighting acts as a guide for moving through the installation, emphasizing essential elements in the work through highlights and shadows. First explored in Kelly Taylor Mitchell & Sergio Suarez: Material Memory at Swan Coach House Gallery in 2024, the Recipe series explores deconstructed materials like beads, found adornments, & charged textiles. View this installation at SITE: a monumental evening of art installations, live performances, exhibitions & open studios, all in one expansive event featuring over 30 artists. Free with RSVP (link in bio). Photo credit Nydia Blas. |
