Today&#039;s post is for ALL young basketball players, their parents and Basketball Coaches including CYO, In-town, travel, AAU youth coaches from the grammar school grades through varsity high school and high school coaches. A simple but yet most effective strategy I call &quot; Coaching Scribe&quot; which I will share with you today. I learned the method by witnessing my first coaching mentor, Jim Kelly of Rye HS, NY, apply it most successfully many years ago. So here is how it works and again, it so simple. <br /> Get an assistant, parent or player to record your coaching comments and they need only to add the time remaining: Example: 14:30 mark: Mark , great first open player rule pass to Joe for a layup. 11:10 mark: We gave up a transition layup because our point guard and two guard did not get back ( later on after the game, you as the coach will ADD your thoughts to the comment such as when the point drives , we need another perimeter player to rotate back..etc..).<br /> If you only make 5 comments per half, you now have 10 teaching points to review with your team! Feedback. Isn&#039;t that the essence of good teaching or coaching? There is much more to coaching than switching back and forth at these AAU games from 2-3 zone to 3-2 zone. That is not feedback! Why don&#039;t coaches give players feedback on specific aspects of the game of basketball? My hunch is that many coaches lack the knowledge of critical fundamental aspects to focus upon. That is why I wrote a book addressing all these factors. I added to my own knowledge by coaching the best players in NYC at The Gauchos AAU in the shadows of Yankee Stadium and in other ways which stretched me out of my comfort zones. <br /> Get out of your coaching comfort zone, order my book and try this one of many techniques: &quot; Coaching Scribe&quot;. Parents and players get this book so you can have constructive, positive conversations about the specifics of better basketball play and performance. There needs to be much more to AAU then game after game after game. You need reflection. Parents, players and coaches reflect on the concepts and fundamentals that leads to winning. If your child is playing for someone who doesn&#039;t teach then why are you paying so much money to not learn the game? We need a basketball coaching revolution in this country because Europe has figured it out better than us. They practice skills and fundamentals more than they play games. Maybe together we can start this much needed basketball evolution and transformation.
