It’s sad to see so many people feel stuck with credit card debts that they’ve been trying to pay off for years.

Take Jan. For this Florida resident, a bone marrow transplant saved her life, but left her over $60,000 in debt.

“It was very unexpected. We didn’t know I was going to be sick. I maxed out our credit cards to pay for medical bills,” said Jan, a bookkeeper at a seafood restaurant. “I had hoped to pay it back after I went back to work. But I was only given part-time hours plus they cut down my pay. So we were slammed with a lot of things all at once.”

To make ends meet, she and her husband kept a strict budget. “We cut back on unnecessary things, like not going out to eat as much and staying mostly at home. You just do what you have to do.”

Yet, they couldn’t keep up with the high monthly payments. “I’ll pay one or two credit cards, and skip the others to pay for next month. But that only made things worse because the phone calls started coming in.”

She looked for relief options and found a program that combines multiple credit cards into one, lower monthly payment.

“I was embarrassed to admit that I needed help. I couldn’t keep going like this.”

Last month alone, over 28,000 FL residents came to us for help in finding out which relief options are available.
