Body | DID YOU KNOW? In 1958, movie star John Wayne stayed the night in Homer at the Claiborne Hotel Courts on U.S. Highway 79? The Duke was in Louisiana filming “The Horse Soldiers,”. Wayne stayed in room 17, the closest to the front office. He reportedly gave the proprietor, John Malone a $100 bill to cover the $5.00 and asked Malone not to tell anyone he was staying there as he wanted to get a good night sleep. Early the next day, Wayne departed back to work with costars William Holden and Constance Towers shooting location in Natchitoches Parish along the banks of Cane River. Please help the Herbert S. Ford Museum preserve our region’s rich history and culture by donating to the Museum through the Give for Good Campaign that runs April 23-May 7, 2024.
