I just love that Napster is still a thing. Just saying the word "Napster" makes me think of being 24 years old and hijacking <span class="_39_n">Robert Pedigo</span>'s computer so I could download stuff and make a disc.<br /> <br /> But, I digress! He also holds down the low end on this one on the bass guitar. <a href="https://www.facebook.com/yoednirmusic">Yoed Nir</a> is the go to for anytime I need some strings on a tune. I just love how much emotion and beauty he brings to a track. <a href="https://www.facebook.com/Fernandoperdomomusic">Fernando Perdomo</a> plays some guitar on the tune and came up with that lovely, lazy melody that calls back to the original. While Gabi Gray and Theia sing some backing vocals.<br /> <br /> There's a couple neat notes to mention about this one. The first is that...when I first recorded this tune it was MUCH different. My first take on this was more Bluegrass pop. Complete with a banjo, fiddle and the ukulele. But, <span class="_39_n">Derrick Hornyan</span> sent me a version I had put on YouTube over a decade ago...so I pivoted back to a more mellow version of the tune.<br /> <br /> And then, while recording the tune, <span class="_39_n">Lisa Strickland</span> suggested I change up the pronoun situation and sing this from a male point of view. So, instead "I want to be the one to walk in the sun"...it's "She wants to be the one". That was a damn cool idea. But, while playing some DnD with <a href="https://www.facebook.com/kelly.morse.71">Kelly Morse</a>, I learned that this song was actually first written and released by a guy! So, the original version of this song was sung from a male point of view, but 4 years after it was released Cyndi Lauper "flipped the script" and (according to the wiki) made it carry a feminist attitude. So, that's your bit of music trivia for the day. (Kelly is a brilliant source of random knowledge...he also provides some delicious cookies to consume while killing goblins)<br /> <br /> Anyway, I hope your week is off to a great start and that you enjoy the tune. :) |
