| Body | THE BIRTHMARKS OF THE NEW BIRTH (THE MIRACLE OF REGENERATION) part 4<br /> <br /> “Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ (with saving faith) HAS BEEN BORN OF GOD….”(1 John 5:1a) “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may KNOW that you have eternal life and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.” (1 John 5:13)<br /> THE BIRTHMARKS OF THE NEW BIRTH (THE MIRACLE OF REGENERATION) — Part 4<br /> <br /> "Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ (with saving faith) HAS BEEN BORN OF GOD" (1 John 5:1a). "These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may KNOW that you have eternal life and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God" (1 John 5:13).<br /> <br /> As I sat at the computer to type out this devotion concerning birthmarks of the miracle of regeneration, I, along with Pastor Larry, had just returned from witnessing to a man in his 40s. This man has been giving NO evidence (no road signs) that he is on the narrow road that leads to life for many years. Yet, as we shared with him about salvation, he stated that he was trusting a teenage decision. He was clinging to a past decision, in which he experienced great emotional exuberance, but a decision that had not changed his life. God gave me the precious opportunity to contrast the narrow gate of authentic conversion with the "self-deception" of the wide gate of counterfeit conversion. One of the birthmarks with which I challenged his dubious "profession of faith" was the "pursuit of sanctification". The authentic follower of Jesus tracks down a practice of lifestyle that is "set apart from their flesh's agendas, and set apart unto God's agendas" for their life. They do not practice this pursuit perfectly but will pursue sanctification with purpose and passion. <br /> <br /> Furthermore, the born-again believer is now "walking in the light, as Jesus is in the light." They have been transferred out of the kingdom of darkness and into the kingdom of light. They have an ongoing desire to walk pleasingly to their Lord and Savior. But what happens when they stumble and fall into a sin? Oh, dear friend, they SIN IN THE LIGHT, for they are walking in the light. When sin occurs, the Holy Spirit shines His holy searchlight on that sin! There is conviction and contrition in the heart. <br /> <br /> So, how does this born-again believer respond? They will manifest a birthmark, as seen in verse 9, "this believer is one of the ones who is confessing their sin. So the Lord is faithful and just to continually forgive them of their sin and to continually cleanse them from all unrighteousness." This regenerated child of God has an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous One! When believers stumble and fall, they do not run and hide from God, as Adam and Eve did! They run to their Great High Priest in confession and repentance of sin.<br /> <br /> This road sign of the pursuit of holiness (sanctification) is one of the clear markers that evidence that a person is traveling the narrow road. The Apostle Paul declared in Romans 6:22, "But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your FRUIT to HOLINESS (sanctification), and the end, everlasting life." Who possesses eternal life? Those who have been emancipated from the dominating tyranny of sin. Those who have become willing slaves of the Good Shepherd, the Lord Jesus. The ongoing evidence of this liberation is that they manifest the birthmark of sanctification. John says, "These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, THAT YOU MAY KNOW that you have eternal life." Do you see this birthmark of the pursuit of sanctification in your life? |
