Harry Carnes <br /> Luke 24:1-12 “Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, ‘Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, ‘saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.” And they remembered His words. Then they returned from the tomb and told all these things to the eleven and to the rest. It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them, who told these things to the apostles. And their words seemed to them like idle tales, and they did not believe them. But Peter arose and ran to the tomb; and stooping down, he saw the linen clothes lying by themselves; and he departed. Marveling to himself at what had happened.” The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the key to our own personal resurrection. To understand Jesus’ resurrection more fully and what it really means for us, we must experience His resurrection power and grace personally. If the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. We believe, but we need more, we need our own resurrection experience. Jesus makes this promise, ‘Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed (Jn. 8:36). The Lord’s disciples had three years of intimate relationship with Him, but when the women came and saw the empty tomb and heard the angels say that Jesus was alive and risen from the dead; they went and told the disciples, but they did not believe them’ (V. 11). How could they believe that someone so totally dead was now so totally alive? It’s a question that has been asked by millions of people who have sought to understand the mystery of the ages. What caused the apostles to believe? They had to experience Jesus’ resurrection for themselves, which they did that evening when Jesus appeared to them and showed them the nail prints in His wrists and His pierced side. God never said that if we don’t believe, it’s too bad for us, He does say it’s ok to test Him (Isa.1:18, 41:21). God wants our faith in Him to be based on a personal experience of the resurrection of His Son. Today we can put away the “If- only of our past and a have resurrection experience over them. We can ask the risen Lord to set us free from those crippling memories. We can experience the power of Jesus’ resurrection today by becoming like Him in His resurrection. Jesus gave us a commandment to love one another as He loves us. He gave Himself for us. He took the greatest risk for us, He identifies with us, He loves us even through our failures. We can be channels for Him with that same kind of love. We can test the risen Lord, and claim His resurrection power to love those around us today. We can claim the power of Christ’s resurrection for the future. We can dare to dream dreams and see visions. Faith is not believing the unbelievable, faith is risking our lives on the unspeakable goodness and Gift of God. We can ask Him to give us an experience of the resurrection. We can challenge Jesus to prove who He is to us personally, to set us free from the past, to teach us to live more like Him today, and to give us His dream for our future. We can ask Jesus for our own resurrection experience today. Just a nod from Him will do! |
