Body | "I want divorce. She's back."
I am not his wife or his girlfriend. I'm just a substitute for his ex...... šš

"Mrs. Allen, Mr. Allen probably won't come home again tonight. Why don't you get some rest?" Nicole Itzel advised kindly when she saw that the bedroom lights were still on.

A look of disappointment flashed past Georgina Lawrence's eyes at her words. Just then, she suddenly heard the sound of a car from the courtyard, and she raced to the window to have a closer look without even putting on her slippers. As expected, the sound came from Matthew Allen's silver Bentley as it entered the garage.

With a deep inhale, Georgina lowered her gaze to her seductively enticing lingerie, her heart drumming in her chest. During the two years of their marriage, Matthew had always slept in the guest room and had never laid a single finger on her.

Georgina knew that their marriage was brought about by his grandfather, Cedric Allen, and went against Matthew's wishes, but two years had already passed, and they couldn't let things go on like this. Did Matthew dislike the fact that she was a college student who hadn't even graduated and think that she was foolish, or did he think that she wasn't assertive enough?

At that thought, Georgina quietly shuffled to the guest room in her black lace lingerie. She mustered her courage and knocked on the door, only to be met with no reply.

Then, she carefully pushed the door open and let herself in. She could hear the sounds of running water from the bathroomāMatthew was probably still in the shower.

Suddenly, the sounds from the bathroom stopped, and Matthew soon strode out from the bathroom with a pair of lean and tapered legs, clad in nothing but a towel around his waist as he hadn't expected another person to appear in his room.

His chiseled figure was bared in the air, droplets of water gliding down his sculpted muscles, and Georgina was completely entranced by the sight. What a hot body he's got! I can't believe he's been keeping that hidden underneath his clothes!

She gulped, her eyes fixed on his artfully crafted features. This was the first time that she had seen her husband's body during the past two years.

"Georgina!" Matthew suddenly spoke up, his voice cold as he demanded, "Are you done staring? Also, who allowed you to come into my room?"

Georgina awkwardly retracted her gaze and replied feebly, "You're my husband. Shouldn't your room be my room?"

Upon saying that, she immediately stood on the bed and looked at him with a set of crystalline eyes. "Do you like what I'm wearing?"

Her petite and lithe body was displayed before him, and her porcelain face was flushed red as her long eyelashes fluttered. The sight of her was innocent, and yet she seemed to be exuding a charm that prickled in the air. He never knew that this wife of his was hiding such a side of herself.

Matthew concealed the look in his eyes, but his throat bobbed subconsciously. Then, he quickly put on his bathrobe before tossing one of his clothes to her.

He ordered in a voice of restraint, "Go back to your own room."

Georgina looked at him with a wounded gaze, feeling as if she had set herself up for humiliation. All of a sudden, she recalled her best friend, Shermaine Lewis', theory.

According to Shermaine, Matthew was not only in the prime of his youth, but he was also the young master of the wealthiest family in Jedburt who possessed both good looks and fortune, and he certainly had an abundance of women who were desperately trying to win him over. He couldn't possibly be celibate for an extended period of time unless he'd had his fill outside. That was the only explanation for why he often looked as if he had no desires at all upon returning home.

Just like that, Georgina blurted out, "Matthew, are you seeing someone else behind my back?"

Matthew's eyes glinted, but he didn't admit to nor deny her words.

Instead, he looked apathetic, uttering the cruelest words with a calm expression, "Georgina, I told you on the day of our wedding that the only thing I can give you is the title of Mrs. Allen. You shouldn't think about anything else."

Every time he said these words to her, defeat and hopelessness churned in her heart and tugged painfully at her nerves. Perhaps, to him, she was nothing but a girl from a family of nobodies who sought after the Allen Family's power. After all, there was no one who would be willing to give their hand in marriage to a man they barely knew.

However, he didn't have the slightest clue that many years ago, he had brought warmth to her world like a ray of light.

While she was lost in her thoughts, Matthew had already opened the door for her.

"Go and rest. Also, don't dress like this anymore. It doesn't suit you."

The dismissal in his words was clear, and Georgina scampered out of his room, her face flushed as red as a beetroot.

She had just returned to her bedroom when her father, Charles Lawrence, called.

"I'm sorry, Dad. He probably won't attend Grandma's birthday dinner tomorrow," Georgina said, knowing that she wouldn't be able to convince Matthew.

Charles heaved a sigh and said, "You've been married for two years, and he has never stepped a single foot into our family's house at all. I've said back then that we aren't good enough for the Allen Family, but your mother was bent on doing things her way and insistedā¦"

"Dad." Georgina had a repugnance for people badmouthing her mother, and she interrupted, "I willingly married him!"

ā¦

The next day, Georgina could only return home alone for her grandmother, Agatha Carey's, birthday. Although she was aware that she did not receive Agatha's favor, she still had to give her a toast due to the presence of other guests.

Her stepmother, Sarah Chambers, said sarcastically, "Oh? Georgina, why didn't you bring your husband along with you? You've been married for two years, but we've never caught a single glimpse of him."

Holding a wine glass in hand, Agatha chimed in with a shallow smile that didn't reach her eyes. "He probably thinks we're too poor for him! Today is such an important day, but it seems like my grandson-in-law doesn't take an old lady like me seriously at all."

Georgina's younger sister, Gianna Lawrence, seized the chance to mock her, "Georgina, the one Matthew doesn't take seriously probably isn't Grandma, but you, am I right?"

As their grating words of ridicule whirred in her ears, Georgina bitterly downed the wine in her glass in one go. However, the wine was too strongāstrong enough for her to completely lose consciousness after she finished her drink, and she eventually collapsed.

In a car, Sarah and Gianna sat on either side of Georgina.

"Mom, as long as we send Georgina onto Mr. Jaxon's bed, the role of the second female lead of his new project will be mine!" Gianna said excitedly, her eyes gleaming.

"You must never let your father find out about this. If not, with the way he dotes on this brat, he'd kill us!" Sarah instructed her secretively as if they were committing a crime.

"Okay, okay." Gianna said, "I've already confirmed the room with Mr. Jaxon. It's the presidential suite on the top floor of Cloud Haven."

Sarah let out an eerie laugh. "What does Georgina have that makes her worthy of marrying into the Allen Family? It's only because that mother of hers succeeded in performing Old Mr. Allen's operation back then and shamelessly left her daughter to them before she died. At the end of the day, they just want them for their power. How impertinent!"

Gianna hurriedly agreed, "Exactly! Even if they needed a bride, it should've been me. How am I any worse than her?"

Sarah growled through gritted teeth, "Tonight, we'll ruin everything she has!"

ā¦

As Sarah and Gianna did not spike her drink heavily, Georgina jolted awake the moment she felt the heavy pants and searing heat of the man on top of her.

"Mmph! Let go of me!"

The room was pitch black, rendering her unable to decipher the man's features, and she could only desperately attempt to push him away. She knew that there was no coming back from something like this if she didn't stop it soon, but to her dismay, the man easily captured her hands in a vice-like grip.

A pair of warm lips landed on her ears, filling her eardrums with a low and hoarse voice. "Be a good girl."

Chapter 2 Took Her First Time

At this point, Matthew had completely lost all his sense and reason. He didn't know if it was the food or the alcohol at the dinner party that had gone wrong, but he was now driven by desire and unable to control himself.

As soon as he laid his hands on the soft and fragrant woman on the bed, his desire immediately turned into a taut bowstring that he couldn't hold back. Moreover, her inexperienced response and helpless sobbing pushed him even further off the edge.

After an entire hour went by, his appetite was finally satiated, and he drifted off to sleep.

Georgina only felt as if her whole body had been run over by a truck, and the aching pain penetrated her bones. Bracing her aching body, she hastily put on her dress and left the room in the dark.

As she frantically stumbled into the elevator, she bumped into a young woman.

"I'm sorry."

With a pale face, Georgina hurriedly strode into the elevator and pressed the close button.

After exiting the elevator, Amaya Dalton immediately whipped around and looked at Georgina in disbelief through the gap of the closing doors.

Wasn't this Matthew's wife, the woman who had stolen her place? There was only one presidential suite on the top floor, so did that mean that Georgina had run out of Matthew's room?

Did they⦠do it?

Jealousy and spite permeated every fiber of her being at the thought. She had gone through so much effort by bribing people at the dinner party and calculating the timing and dosage of the drug, only to let Georgina get ahead of her.

She quickly entered the room, and in the pitch-black darkness, there was only the sound of Matthew's breathing as he slept. Seeing that, Amaya let out a sigh of relief. Then, a smirk appeared on her lips as she stripped her clothes and lay down next to him.

ā¦

When Georgina exited the clubhouse, she did not have the courage to return to the mansion that belonged to her and Matthew, afraid that Matthew or one of the mansion's staff would see her in her current state.

After all, in the past two years of their marriage, Matthew had not even touched a single finger of hers. However, her innocence had now been stolen away by a man she didn't know.

At the thought, Georgina's mind went blank, and her heart raced in a frenzy.

She called a cab to return to the Lawrence Residence, planning to take a shower and change her clothes at the very least.

When she returned home, Gianna and Sarah were waiting for Dominique Jaxon's call in the living room.

"Mom, do you think that Georgina and Mr. Jaxon are already⦠I'm going nuts. Why won't Mr. Jaxon give us a call? It's about time he gave me that role, right?" Gianna asked, her eyes filled with greed.

Sarah narrowed her eyes and said, "What's the hurry? It's just past 11.00PM. Mr. Jaxon is known for being wild in bed. How could he let Georgina off so easily?"

Just as the two were chatting, Georgina walked into the house with a brooding expression.

"G-Georgina?" Gianna's voice turned into a stammer from shock. "Why are you back?"

Georgina rebuked with a smirk, "Can't I come back now?"

Sarah's expression was just as frantic as she plastered on a false smile and said, "Georgina, why did you leave your grandma's birthday dinner without telling us? Your sudden departure made your grandma really angry, you know!"

Georgina slowly walked toward them.

Upon seeing the way they were acting, Georgina was mostly certain that they were the ones who dropped her off at a place like Cloud Haven. When she thought of her innocence that had been inexplicably stolen away, she was filled with rage.

Slap! A loud slap landed on Sarah's face.

Immediately, Gianna erupted into a fury and roared, "How dare you hit my mother, Georgina? I'm going to call Grandma and Dad downstairs now. Just you wait!"

Georgina seized her wrist and yanked her back.

Her black eyes gleamed with an eerie light as she said pointedly, "Go ahead and call them. Everything that happened tonight has been captured by Cloud Haven's surveillance cameras. If Dad knows about it, just wait and see what he'll do to you!"

Immediately, the color drained from Sarah and Gianna's faces. They were just as afraid that Charles would find out. As Georgina was still young when Charles divorced his ex-wife and was even a victim of bullying during middle school, she had suffered from depression in the past. Hence, he was unable to shake off his guilt toward her since she was a child and favored her a little more.

Moreover, this was not a small matter. If things escalated, they would be forced to face the consequences as well.

Georgina could sense their guilt and anxiety, and she viciously shook Gianna off, causing her to plummet to the ground. Then, she dragged her exhausted body and headed upstairs.

Sarah hurriedly helped Gianna up, her eyes intently fixed on Georgina's back.

Gianna pressed anxiously, "Mom, why is Georgina back so early? Did she and Mr. Jaxonā¦"

"They definitely did." Sarah let out a sinister laugh and said, "Didn't you see how many marks were left on her neck? It looks like Mr. Jaxon didn't go easy on her!"

Suddenly, Gianna asked worriedly, "Georgina must bear a grudge against us now. What if she checks the surveillance cameras and tells Dad about this? Did you see what she looked like just now? She looked like she was going to kill us!"

Sarah replied unhurriedly, "What are you scared of? Georgina is the Allen Family's daughter-in-law. Do you think she would dare to tell anyone what happened today? Would she have any pride left if she does?"

Hearing that, Gianna finally relaxed and hurriedly urged, "Mom, hurry up and give Mr. Jaxon a call and ask him when I can start filming."

Sarah dialed Dominique's number and asked slavishly, "Mr. Jaxon, were you satisfied with Georgina tonight?"

"Don't even talk about it. Someone got to the presidential suite I booked tonight first. I heard they're a bigwig." Dominique grumbled grouchily, "I didn't even catch a single glimpse of the pretty girl you offered me."

At his words, Sarah's face immediately dropped. "What? A bigwig? Does that mean you didn't go to the presidential suite?"

In that case, who did Georgina sleep with? Her neck had been covered in hickeys earlier!

"Enough of this. We'll talk about your daughter's audition later."

Unable to get a taste of what he was promised, Dominique was naturally in a foul mood.

Gianna stomped her foot in anger; was her first acting role about to slip away just like that?

In a corner of the stairway, Georgina surveyed the mother and daughter from above. Through their conversation, she could vaguely piece together what had happened.

They had most likely prepared to hand her over to Dominique, but their plan had gone awry as the presidential suite was suddenly taken away by someone more influential and authoritative. This person was someone that Dominique could not afford to offend, which meant that someone else hadā¦

Georgina squeezed her eyes shut, afraid to continue her train of thought.

When she recalled the disaster earlier that night, she yearned to smother Sarah and Gianna, but she couldn't. This matter involved the Lawrence Family and Allen Family's pride as well as her own, and she could only bite her tongue and act as if nothing had happened.

After that, Georgina headed to the bathroom. Under the running shower, she viciously scrubbed her mottled body, as if every part of her body had turned filthy after the night she had experienced.

She hadn't given her first time to her husband but lost it to a stranger instead. As the thought took over her mind, her sobs mingled with the sound of the shower, desolate and sorrowful.

ā¦

For the entire night, Georgina was unable to fall asleep. When she headed back to Matthew's mansion early the next morning, she even bought a box of morning-after pills along the way. Although she was only twenty-two this year and was still wet behind the ears, she still knew the basics.

Once she had taken the pill, she carelessly placed the box in a drawer. Soon, fatigue engulfed her, and she drowsily drifted off to sleep.

When she arose from her slumber, it was already noon, and to her surprise, Matthew had returned home at some point and was sitting on the couch in the bedroom. His black suit and silver tie made him look dignified and elegant, yet even more unattainable than usual.

Georgina jolted at the sight of him. When she recalled what she had experienced the previous night, she instantly felt a pang of guilt. Moreover, he always went to the guest room in the past and had never stepped into the master bedroom.

Matthew stood up and slowly walked toward her, saying in a nonchalant voice, "I just came back and heard the servants say you didn't look too good. I thought you fell ill, so I came in to check on you."

Georgina had just let out a sigh of relief when a box of medicine was tossed in front of her.

"I was looking for a thermometer in your bedside drawer, but I found this. What is this?"

While Matthew's voice was calm, there was a trace of iciness and probing that was easily detectable. As Georgina's gaze fell on the box of morning-after pills she bought, her heart immediately jumped to her throat.

Chapter 3 Saw the Woman He Was Hiding With Her Own Eyes

Georgina hastily looked at Matthew and said through a choked sob, "I can explain. Yesterday, Iā¦"

"Enough."

Before she could speak, Matthew cut her off, his eyes falling on the red marks by her collar that was undoubtedly a hickey.

His voice was calm yet icy as he said, "I'm also responsible for making you sleep alone in the past two years, so I don't blame you for doing something like this. But, Georgina, the Allen Family will not accept a tainted woman as their matriarch."

Georgina's mind went blank, as if all of her explanations had turned into empty words. That was right. Who would believe her story? Moreover, even if she proved that she had been a victim of Gianna and Sarah's schemes, she was still tainted.

Georgina's lips lifted into a bitter smile. "So, what you're saying is, we're getting a divorce?"

Matthew nodded coolly. "I hope that you'll clarify to Grandpa that you were the one who wanted to get a divorce. I'll also save you a little dignity and not let him find out that you cheated."

At that moment, Georgina only felt her eyes aching with tears, and she desperately held them in so that they would not fall.

After a long pause, she inhaled deeply and requested, "Then⦠Can you answer a question for me?"

"Go on."

Matthew's eyes were like a vast, endless abyss, making her unable to read his emotions.

She looked at him, her voice trembling as she asked, "Are you seeing someone else? Did you not have even the slightest feelings for me during our two years of marriage? Without her, would you have had feelings for me?"

Matthew narrowed his eyes slightly and replied in a detached voice, "Sorry. I told you on the day we got married that all I can give you is the title of Mrs. Allen."

He did not give her a straight answer to her question, but Georgina was a woman, and her instinct told her that his heart already belonged to someone else long ago.

"I'll get a lawyer to prepare the divorce agreement. After you sign it, go and explain things to Grandpa."

As Matthew talked about divorce, his careless attitude was as if they were discussing what they should eat for dinner that night.

After saying these words, he left the bedroom without any hesitation. To Georgina, everything around her felt as if it had turned into frost. It was a scorching summer day, but why did she feel like she was trapped in a cave of ice?

What made her despair the most was not that Matthew had asked for a divorce, but rather that he assumed she was having an affair, yet he remained so calm. From this fact, she realized that his composure did not stem from his manners and upbringing, but rather from the fact that he did not love her at all.

Georgina fell into a stupor. She had already known that their wedding would end like this one day, but when the day finally came, she only realized that she was too powerless to bear it and that she didn't want to let him go at all.

Taking out her phone, she called Shermaine. "Shermaine, are you off work? I⦠Iā¦"

A lump formed in Georgina's throat, and she only felt as if she were swelling with hurt and grief, making her unable to speak.

Shermaine could tell that something was up, but she said in a conflicted voice, "Georgina, I have an interview tonight, so it might take quite a while before I'm done with work. How about this? I'll send you the address, and you can come to look for me. We'll talk after my interview ends, okay?"

"Yeah."

After agreeing, Georgina immediately left the house. Heading to the location Shermaine had sent her, she stopped her car under a dance studio.

According to Shermaine, in order to promote the grand opening of the dance studio, the owner had arranged for an interview, and a journalist from Daridge Daily was set to conduct the interview. Upon hearing that Georgina had arrived, Shermaine rushed downstairs and got into her car.

As soon as she saw Georgina, she immediately started complaining, "The owner of that studio is so unreliable. The ribbon-cutting and opening ceremony were originally scheduled for this morning, and I could have gotten off work early today, but because she changed the time, I had to work overtime and wait here for the interview. Who has an opening ceremony at night anyway?"

Georgina could only comfort her. "This is Daridge Tower, a place where every inch of land is worth a king's ransom. Rich people are just selfish."

Just as the two were speaking, Shermaine received a call from her colleague and was told to head upstairs.

"Go on. I'll wait for you here."

Unable to muster any more strength, Georgina told Shermaine to head upstairs herself. After Shermaine left, her gaze fell on the road nearby.

Suddenly, her eyes widened intensely. Just seconds ago, she unwittingly watched as her husband, Matthew, got out of a black Bentley with a bouquet of red roses in his hand, the bright crimson as piercing as the color of blood.

Georgina's hands trembled as she gripped the steering wheel. This man had just brought up divorce to her at noon, and now, he was holding a bouquet of roses that she had never received before.

As Matthew walked into Daridge Tower, Georgina immediately exited the car and followed after him from afar. The entrance to the dance studio was decorated with colorful lights, and the air was vibrant and joyous. Inside, Shermaine was interviewing the studio's owner, a knowledgeable and beautiful woman with a gentle and friendly smile, who was even holding the bouquet of roses that Matthew had just given her.

Georgina only felt a buzz in her ears as her gaze fell on Matthew. Alas, he didn't notice her as all his attention was on that woman, and even the gentle smile on his lips was something she had never seen before.

Georgina clenched her fists tightly, and it was only by doing so that she stopped herself from rushing over to question them.

ā¦

After the opening ceremony, Amaya and Matthew headed to the lounge alone.

"Matthew, did you really bring up the divorce to your wife?" Amaya leaned in his chest and asked woefully, "Your grandfather wouldn't blame you, right? I'm really scared that you'll offend your grandfather because of me."

Matthew comforted her softly, "You're the woman I cherish the most. If I can't give you a proper name, I'd rather not touch you. I've always felt guilty for keeping you hidden all these years, and since I took your first time last night, I won't run away from my responsibilities."

A trace of conniving flashed past Amaya's eyes before she returned to her pitiful expression.

"I'm really glad to be your woman. I've never regretted it before." Amaya clutched her chest and said meaningfully, "It's a good thing your assistant told me last night that you got set up and drugged. Otherwise, if another woman had entered that room, I⦠I don't think I can bear it. Matthew, I don't want to share you with anyone else."

Just as the two were curled up together in a loving embrace, Matthew's phone rang urgently. When he saw who was calling him, a flash of surprise darted past his eyes. Georgina? What was she calling him for?

"Hello? Do you need anything?" he asked in a cold voice.

On the other end, Georgina's voice sounded. "Matthew, it's about the divorce. I'm taking it back."

Matthew jolted and asked subconsciously, "What do you mean?"

"Just come home. I think we need to talk."

Upon saying that, Georgina hung up the call. Amaya's face had darkened as well, as she had vaguely heard that Matthew's wife did not want a divorce anymore.

"Maya, I have to go back." Matthew said frankly, "There might be some changes with the divorce."

Chapter 4 Husband and Wife in Nature

By the time Matthew arrived home, it was already past 11.00PM. The mansion was eerily silent, and only a single light was turned on in the living room, where Georgina was sitting on the couch as if she had been awaiting his return.

Matthew removed his suit and loosened his tie, his voice carrying a trace of impatience. "Didn't we already settle the matter of the divorce this afternoon? I will be fair in dividing the assets, so you don't have to worry about that."

Clearly, he was assuming that she only wanted a larger share of their assets.

Georgina's voice was hoarse as she asked, "Matthew, are you asking for a divorce because of that woman?"

Matthew's expression faltered at her words, but he quickly regained his composure. He did not want to continue hiding the truth from her, nor could he be bothered to.

"Yes. I have to take responsibility for her. I owe her that," he admitted coolly.

Georgina let out a self-deprecating laugh. "I only realized today how hypocritical you are. Just this afternoon, you acted like a victim to make me feel guilty and force me to get a divorce. You were probably happy with yourself, right? That you finally caught my weakness and pressured me to comply so that you can be with her."

Matthew's brow furrowed slightly, and his voice froze over. "Georgina, let me make it clear. Even if we talk about who came first, it was Amaya who was with me first. You know very well how you ended up marrying me. Now that you have someone else, we're even. So, let's just let each other go so that both of us can be happy, all right?"

"No!" Georgina's tone was light, but every word that left her mouth was as sharp as knives. "I hate being deceived the most. For the past two years, you and that woman have been playing me like a fool. Do you think I'll let you get away with it?"

Matthew rubbed his forehead, suppressing the rage that was boiling in his chest as he gritted out, "Then what do you want?"

"I won't get a divorce."

After spitting out these words, Georgina stormed back to the bedroom, her tears gushing down her face as soon as she turned away from him.

For two entire years, she had been waiting fervently for him to give her a second glance. Before her mother's passing, she had told her that in most cases, marriage came before affection, and true love was when it was love at first sight, just like how she felt toward Matthew.

However, at the end of the day, the pillars of marriage were understanding and patience. Georgina had faith in the idea that her persistence would one day warm his heart, but now she finally realized how wrong she had been. That woman's existence had brushed aside all of her efforts and perseverance.

ā¦

For half a month, Matthew did not step foot into the mansion, refusing to even stay in the guest room.

Meanwhile, Georgina decided to immerse herself in the school laboratory, focusing on her studies and research. As a senior, she was determined to pursue a graduate degree and didn't want to be trapped in a marriage without a future. That way, even if she had lost her chance at love, she still had a career to look forward to. For now, she needed to concentrate on her studies in order to keep her mind from dwelling on Matthew's name.

In the evening, she finally finished her lab session for the day and left the laboratory.

"You must be Miss Lawrence, right?"

Amaya was standing outside the lab, seemingly waiting for her. Immediately, Georgina recognized her at first glanceāshe was the dancer who was interviewed by Shermaine.

"Yes. And you are?" Georgina asked in an aloof voice, pretending not to know her.

Amaya smiled, as gentle and empathetic as ever. "Miss Lawrence, do you mind going out for a chat? I'm Matthew's⦠friend. My name is Amaya Dalton."

"Friend?" Georgina's lips curled into a mocking smile. "Matthew has too many friends, and I've never heard him talk about you. Sorry, but I'm not free at the moment."

However, Amaya stood in her way and prevented her from leaving, her smile still plastered on her face. "Miss Lawrence, I won't take much of your time."

As a matter of fact, Georgina had long been harboring resentment toward this woman. Since she was being so persistent, she wanted to see what exactly Amaya was up to. Hence, the two of them went to a nearby coffee shop near Daridge University.

"Miss Lawrenceā"

Amaya was about to speak when she was interrupted by Georgina. "Miss Dalton, since you're a friend of Matthew's, you should know who I am, right? Please call me Mrs. Allen!"

She emphasized the last two words heavily through gritted teeth.

A look of embarrassment appeared on Amaya's face as she nodded. "All right, then I'll call you Mrs. Allen for now. I wanted to talk to you today to apologize. After all, because of me, Matthew has made you suffer a lot."

"Has he?" Georgina feigned a breezy laugh and rebuked, "When did he make me suffer and why don't I know about it? Miss Dalton, aren't you overestimating yourself? Matthew is quite kind to me, really."

Amaya's smile grew deeper as she pierced through Georgina's facade in a gentle voice. "Is that so? However, Matthew told me that you don't want a divorce, and he's just as troubled by this matter. After all, the two of us went to the same university, and we've been together since a long time ago. Yes, we were around your age when we fell in love."

Although Georgina had prepared herself to face her husband's mistress, she only realized that she and Amaya were at completely different levels now that they met face to face, especially when Amaya spoke of her past with Matthew.

"Matthew has told me all about your story. When Old Mr. Allen had a complex heart surgery many years ago, it was your mother who saved him, and this made him feel that he was indebted to your family. Hence, when your mother entrusted you to Old Mr. Allen before she died, it must've been very difficult for him to refuse. Of course, you were also a sacrifice in this arranged marriage by the elders, so you're just as pitiful."

Amaya's voice was soft and unhurried, but it was enough to throw Georgina's pride and dignity onto the floor and step all over it.

Georgina continued to stir her coffee with her slender and slightly trembling fingers, but her heart had sunk into utter turmoil. So, it seemed that Matthew had told this woman everything. She must've been a complete joke to them all this while.

In the end, she went along with Amaya's words and said, "Since you pity me so much, Miss Dalton, be a good person to the end and stay out of my and Matthew's lives. Okay?"

Amaya's expression froze. She had thought that Georgina would lose her temper and go into a frenzy, but this girl unexpectedly excelled at keeping her composure.

However, she pressed forward with a small smile. "I didn't want to do this either, but Matthew insisted on taking responsibility for me. After all, even if we aren't married by law, we're already husband and wife in nature. Miss Lawrence, you're still young, so you won't understand."

Georgina's hands clenched tightly under the table. Every word that left Amaya's lips felt like a dagger digging into her heart. Deep down, she knew that they were no longer chaste. After all, how could a man control himself around the woman he loved? Even so, when Amaya blatantly bared these words to her, Georgina felt like her heart was stuffed with cotton, making it difficult to breathe.

Taking a deep breath, she said, "So the reason you came to see me is to ask me to let the two of you be together?"

"If possible, I'll make sure that Matthew provides you with enough financial security in the future. You can be assured that you'll be compensated well," Amaya said, using money to tempt Georgina on the assumption she had resigned to defeat.

Georgina let out a light chuckle. "I'm really sorry. If I continue being Mrs. Allen, I can get so much more than what this divorce agreement will give me."

"But, love always has a first come, first served basis." Seeing that she was not getting through to her, the smile on Amaya's face faded and a hint of urgency seeped into her words. "Miss Lawrence, even if you refuse to give up, it's still useless. After all, I stayed by Matthew's side first. He and I are the ones who are truly in love."

Georgina inclined her head. "Yes, what you have with him is love, but what I have with him is marriage. Love may have a first come, first served basis, but the law does not mandate that. That marriage certificate of ours has doomed you to always be a mistress, and you will never be able to present yourself to the world with dignity."

Just then, Georgina's phone rang. Upon seeing that it was a call from Matthew, she immediately recalled that the 15th of every month was the day they had dinner with Cedric at the Allen Residence. As she answered the phone, she deliberately turned on the speaker in front of Amaya.

On the other end, Matthew's voice sounded. "Where are you? We have to return to the Allen Residence today."

"Darling, I'm still in school. I just finished my lab session. Why don't you come and pick me up?" Georgina's voice was tender and soft, carrying a hint of a flirtatious undertone.

Matthew froze, unable to bring himself to believe that Georgina had just called him that.

Chapter 5 Are You That Desperate to Share a Bed With Me? I'll Satisfy Your Wishes Today!

Who allowed her to call me that?

However, before Matthew could chide her, Georgina had already hung up.

As she looked at Amaya's severe expression, a satisfied smile appeared on Georgina's face, one that she hadn't revealed before.

"See that, Miss Dalton?" She waved her phone at Amaya. "My darling husband is coming to pick me up. No matter if you came first or I showed up later, the person that my husband will be able to take with him to the Allen Residence will always be me, Georgina Lawrence!"

She stood up and pulled out two banknotes, placing them on the table.

"Enjoy your drink, Miss Dalton. I'll take the bill."

At that, Georgina strode away from the cafe. At that moment, her heart which had been suffocating for the past few days was finally able to breathe again.

ā¦

Soon after, Matthew quickly arrived at the entrance of Daridge University to pick Georgina up. As Cedric had single-handedly brought him up, he treated him with nothing but respect, and it was also because of this that he personally came to fetch her to return to the Allen Residence together to avoid upsetting him.

When she entered the car, Matthew ordered in an icy voice, "Georgina, don't call me that in the future."

"Okay," Georgina agreed docilely.

She didn't mention that Amaya came to look for her because she knew that a man's preferences could cloud their judgment. If anything, he might even accuse her of picking on his beloved!

Seeing that she accepted his words without retorting, Matthew didn't dwell on the pet name that she had briefly given him any longer and headed straight to the Allen Residence.

The Allen Residence was nestled between towering peaks and glistening waters in the south of Daridge. Once, a wealthy foreigner had offered 120 million for the mansion, but their efforts only earned a contemptuous scoff from Cedric. On the 15th of every month, the Allen Family would hold a family banquet which Matthew's father and stepmother would also attend.

Currently, Matthew's stepmother, Velma Whitney, was giggling and teasing Cedric, "Dad, we heard that your health hasn't been great lately, and your asthma keeps acting up. Derrick especially went abroad to look for a specialist, but he couldn't make it back in time to dine with you today, so he asked me to apologize to you."

A little taken aback, Cedric asked, "Since when was Derrick so sensible?"

Velma's expression faltered for a moment, and she hurriedly explained, "Derrick has always been a good child. Just a while ago, he said that it's been a long time since he finished university, and he wanted to help his brother out at Allen Corporation so that he can relieve your burden along with Matthew!"

Matthew's face gradually darkened at the mention of his stepbrother, Derrick Allen. Back then, he only agreed to marry Georgina on the condition that Cedric would promise to hand the executive power in Allen Corporation to him and prevent Derrick from joining the company. Did Cedric not make it clear to Velma and the others yet?

Matthew's father, Richard Allen, chimed in as well. "Dad, why don't you see if you can give Derrick a spot in Allen Corporation? Even though Matthew is doing well, it's difficult for him to handle such a large company alone."

After Richard got a divorce from his ex-wife and married Velma, Cedric relieved him of all his positions in the Allen Corporation and instead allowed Matthew to monopolize the company. Richard and Velma were afraid that their youngest son would also meet the same end as him and be excluded by Cedric, so he spared no effort to speak up for Derrick.

Cedric cleared his throat and said dismissively, "Derrick is still young, so he still needs more training. At the moment, there aren't any positions that are suitable for him at Allen Corporation."

Instantly, Velma's expression darkened. She had a feeling from the start that as long as Matthew was around, her son would never fully earn Cedric's favor.

Meanwhile, Georgina silently savored her meal next to Matthew, but she still tuned in to every word of their conversation.

Just then, Cedric shifted his attention onto her, his stern face softening as he looked at her.

"Georgina, you look like you've lost weight. Here, have some more." Cedric asked with a cheery smile, "Has Matthew been kind to you? He isn't picking on you, right?"

Glancing at Matthew, Georgina mustered a forced smile. "Don't worry, Grandpa. Matthew has been treating me well."

As soon as she finished speaking, Velma chuckled. "Are you sure? I heard that Matthew only returns home a few times a month, and even if he does, he sleeps separately from you!"

"What? Sleeping separately?" Cedric's expression immediately sank. "What's going on?"

Matthew pursed his thin lips, his suspicious gaze falling on Georgina. He had carefully hand-picked every single one of the maids in their mansion, so it was impossible for any of them to let anything slip. However, how did Velma find out?

As if afraid that Cedric wouldn't believe her, Velma added, "Dad, Georgina has married into our family for two years, but she has yet to get pregnant. At Matthew and Georgina's age, it should've happened a long time ago."

Hearing that, Cedric seemed to think of something and rose from his seat. "Matthew, come to the study with me."

Georgina watched their retreating figures worriedly, feeling conflicted. Even though she thought that Matthew deserved to be berated by Cedric, she was still consumed with worry.

ā¦

In the study, the two faced each other off in silence.

After a long pause, Cedric finally began to speak in a grave voice. "Matthew, when I let Georgina get married to you, it wasn't so that she would have a hard time in our family. I'm only alive because of Georgina's mother!"

"Marrying her is the biggest compromise that I can make. As for anything else, I can't do it." Matthew's voice was completely void of emotion.

Cedric scoffed coldly at his reply. "You heard what Velma said. If you treat Georgina like this, I can only be fair and reconsider my heir. After all, Derrick is my biological grandson as well."

Matthew held himself back, not telling Cedric about the divorce in the end. Back then, he had given up everything and married Georgina, and he would not let all of his sacrifices go to waste.

When he was six years old, the age when he needed his mother's love the most, Richard forced her to leave and married Velma instead. For ages, he searched high and low for his mother but to no avail, and even now, he had no idea if she was alive or dead. How could he let go of such a grudge?

Eventually, he conceded, "I understand, Grandpa. I know what to do."

As long as he was around, he swore to give Richard and Velma a hard time!

However, Cedric would never trust him so easily.

"From today onward, you'll move back to the Allen Residence with Georgina." Cedric commanded solemnly, "When you give me a grandchild, I'll hand all of the shares and executive power that I own in Allen Corporation over to you."

ā¦

Just like that, Matthew and Georgina moved into the Allen Residence that night. Naturally, Cedric arranged for them to sleep in the same bedroom as well.

Currently, Georgina looked at Matthew's glower nervously, her heart in her throat.

Matthew reached out and lifted her chin, forcing her to raise her head and meet his eyes. "How did Velma find out what happened between us? Are you close to her?"

Deciphering the suspicion in his voice, Georgina immediately explained herself, "You despise that woman, and I don't like her either, so why would I have contact with her?"

However, her words weren't convincing in the slightest.

Matthew's lips curled into a cruel smile. "Are you that desperate to share a bed with me? In that case, I'll satisfy your wishes today!"

Open the app and continue reading the rest of the story . š (It will automatically jump to the book when you open the app) |
