With the little strength left in her, she lifted her bloodied hand and touched the man's handsome face. And with the last bit of breath left in her, she asked while gasping for air, "M...i...s...t...e...r... hand...some... wa... what... is... your... name?"
"Leo Wyatt. My name is Leo Wyatt."
"L...e...o, thank... you!" after Ava said, a beautiful smile appeared on her face. A smile that made Leo's heart skip a beat.

'Leo Wyatt.'
That was the name that kept playing in Ava's subconsciousness. She did not remember where she had heard it but she knew that it was important, and she had to find whoever that person was.
She looked at the calendar and realized that it was one week to their wedding anniversary. But hadn't the anniversary already passed?
_____________
Ava looked at the enormous bedroom where she had spent every cold night alone for three years and sneered in self-depreciation.
She had thought that marrying one of the most sought-after bachelors in the entire capital would be her greatest achievement, but she never imagined that it would be the beginning of her most miserable life.
For the past three years, although this was their matrimonial home, the man had only shown up a number of times, only to ridicule her or when he was bringing his women home.
But his family could come almost every single day to shame her and embarrass her. She had been turned from the young mistress of the Grayson family into an unwanted wild dog.
Ava woke up in a daze, she looked at the reminder on her phone and realized that it was three years ago on a day like this that they tied the note.
That day, three years ago had been the most hopeful day of her life, but three years later, it had only turned into a nightmare that bound her and refused to let her go.
They had met through an arranged marriage. Jason's grandfather seemed to be very fond of her and the moment he had seen her, he decided that his grandson would marry no one but her. Jason tried to protest but he had no choice, as he either married her or he lost the right to inherit Grayson's family heirloom.
Although Ava was the eldest daughter of the West family, no one was particularly nice to her, especially her father and his step-wife.
She lived like an orphan in her own home ever since her mother died, and she had no say in anything, even if that thing had anything to do with her long-life happiness.
But she had been used to that life. When she was told that she was going to marry the Young Master of the Grayson family, for the first time in a long while, her face showed a hint of excitement. She had seen the Young Master of the Grayson family once, and she did not hesitate to accept the proposal.
What she had not expected was that she was only being transferred from one hellhole to another, and by the time she realized, it was already too late.
Ava looked at their photo had been in the same spot for three years and felt her eyes become wet. She knew that she could not have indulged it but she could not control her heart.
Every single day that the man did not come home, it only made her more determined to win him over. The more hopes she had, the more she fell for him. Although she knew that there was no chance between them, and she could have even taken the initiative to ask for a divorce, since she knew that the man would be more than happy to grant her that, she could not bring herself to say it.
As she looked at her haggard face in the mirror, a painful tear rolled down her cheek. For a man and a marriage that could never work, she had become unrecognizable even to herself.
Ava wiped the tears off her face. Although she was hurting, and a voice in her head was telling her to just give up and walk away, she had nowhere to go. The moment she divorced Jason, she would have nowhere else to go, because she was certain that the West family would never accept her back.
She could only continue to hope that one day, things would get better and the man would finally see her value, and maybe... just maybe treat her as his wife.
Ava went downstairs, and as always, she prepared breakfast and placed it on the table. The butler looked at her with pity in his eyes. All the servants were looking at her with scornful eyes and they did not have any regard for her.
"Mrs. Grayson, you don't have to do this anymore." The butler said. He had watched how Ava had been preparing every meal for the last three years, and he felt sad in his heart.
But every single day, she ended up disappointed. It was either eaten by the servants or the Graysons could come and make fun of it before throwing it in Ava's face.
Ava looked at the kind-hearted butler and smiled warmly. Although she did not have a mother to teach her how to be a great wife to her husband, she knew that it was her responsibility to make sure that her husband was well taken care of.
"Uncle Sam, you know that it is my responsibility to do this. I did not have a choice the moment I signed my name on that marriage certificate."
The butler, whom Ava had always called Uncle Sam, did not feel good when he heard that.
Everyone thought that Ava was undeserving of being Mrs. Grayson, but he saw different. This girl was very polite and respectful, and if the Young Master had given her a chance, they would have made one inferno of a family.
But now...
Remembering that a certain woman had already returned to the country, he looked at Ava even more pitifully.
He had tried his best to tell her to leave for the last three years, but now he could only sigh and hope that the girl would not do something she would regret.
After setting the table, Ava headed to the master bedroom. Since today was their wedding anniversary, maybe putting on one last fight wouldn't be bad. Who knows, maybe the man's heart would soften and he might come home.
Ava took a quick shower and put on a blue body-hugging dress. All the dresses in the closet were all bought by Jason and they almost looked the same. Ava figured that maybe it was what he liked that was why he had bought so many of them.
She stood in front of the mirror and stared at herself. She was a natural beauty but because of everything she had endured, her face became haggard and she looked ten years older than her age.
She did not know how to apply make-up, but to look presentable, she splashed some foundation on her face before she left.
"Mrs. Grayson, are you going somewhere? Do you need me to prepare the car for you?" the Butler asked when he saw Ava heading downstairs.
Ava looked at him and nodded with a slight smile on her face, "Yes, please, Uncle Tom. Today is our wedding anniversary and I want to bring breakfast to my husband."
Tom did not say anything when he heard that. He only stared at her with a more worried look on his face.
"Should I inform the Young Master that you are heading over?"
"No need. I want it to be a surprise."
The moment Ava left with her well-prepared breakfast; the maids started mocking her as they whispered in smaller voices.
"Look at her. She is so full of herself. She really thinks that the Young Master will take a second look at her if she personally sends him breakfast?"
"I wonder what the old man was thinking, finding such a dumb woman for his grandson."
"I bet the drama that is going to be in the office is going to be superb. Too bad there is no live stream."
...
Ava entered the car and headed to Grayson Group of Companies. It had been long since the last time she went over, and her palms were sweating.
She did not know why she was nervous, but she needed to do something. She felt like if she stayed in the house on such an important day, she might end up losing her mind.
Although she knew that the probability of being thrown out was very high, she had nothing to lose.
"We are here." the driver said in a cold voice.
Ava did not mind his attitude. She had long gotten used to their disdain. There were only two people who were kind to her in the whole Grayson family, and that was the old man and the butler.
Ava took her well-packaged breakfast and headed to the lift. Her heart was thumping hard and she did not even know why she was nervous.
She reached the top floor but before she entered, the secretary stopped her. She looked at her up and down before she sneered in disdain.
Although she knew who Ava was, she still pretended to not know her.
She asked in a sarcastic voice, "Who are you?"
"I am here to bring breakfast to my husband."
"I am sorry, I don't know who you are and besides, my boss is not married." The secretary said.
"Just call him and tell him that Ava is here, I am sure that he will let me in," Ava said politely.
"I am sorry but my boss is kind of busy right now. I don't want to disrupt his time with his girlfriend."
"What did you just say?" Ava was shocked.
Although she knew that Jason had lots of women he was fooling around with, she never imagined that he would have the audacity to bring them to his office.
Ava felt her heart break and her eyes teared up. She knew that she should not care, but her heart could not just listen.
She looked at the secretary and stubbornly said, "Today is our wedding anniversary and I just want to bring my husband breakfast. I will leave the moment I drop this off."
The secretary sneered. She was about to say something but she changed her mind in the end.
"Sure, don't say that I did not warn you."
Ava walked to the door and hesitated whether she should enter or not. Jason was probably busy with his girlfriend and if she just barged in, she might make him angry.
It was only for a split second before she knocked on the door and pushed it open.
Ava expected Jason to lash out at her the moment he saw her, but what greeted her eyes made her frozen in place, her face turning pale.
In the huge office, Jason was sitting on his desk, with a beautiful lady in his arms. His long arms were wrapped around her slim waist and she was wearing a dress that almost looked similar to what Ava was wearing.
On the leather sofa, Jason's sister, Beth, and his mother, Cecile, were seated. There were also two other men in the room with black suits. Ava was not familiar with them, but they seemed to be working on something for Jason.
When the door opened from outside, everyone turned their heads to look. When the people in the room saw the person who had entered, they were momentarily shocked and their faces revealed different expressions.
But that happened only for a split second before they retained their composure. Jason, his mother, and his sister sneered when they saw the intruder. The only person who had an intriguing expression was the woman in Jason's arms.
When she saw the dress Ava was wearing, her eyes flashed with a strange light and no one knew what she was thinking.
Ava stood frozen in place when she saw this, and her face turned pale. Out of all the scenarios that had played in her head, none of them resulted in what she was seeing in the office.
Ava did not know what to do. They had already seen her so she could not just shut the door and leave. But if she entered, all that awaited her were insults from Jason's mother and sister.
As she was still hesitating on what to do, Beth stood up and walked towards her.
She raised her chin haughtily and looked at Ava as if she was looking at something that was already dead.
When Ava saw her approach, she instinctively took a step back. She had suffered so much at the hands of her sister-in-law that she was traumatized.
Beth clapped her hands as she approached Ava. In a voice that was filled with disgust, she said, "Look who we have here?"
She then looked at her brother and continued, "Brother, I think that the heavens are in agreement that you get rid of this annoying fly."
Ava's face paled when she heard Beth. Her gaze turned to look at her so-called husband but he was so busy hugging the woman in his arms that he did not even spare her a glance.
In fact, he seemed to be totally unaffected by her presence. Ava's heart sank at the realization. She knew how much the man hated her, and she wouldn't have come here. Now, she had no one to blame for whatever happens next.
Cecile looked at Ava and sneered, "What are you doing here? Who let you in?"
"I..."
"You what? Do you think that this is a place that any Tom, and Harry can enter as they wish? Don't you know that your presence is disgusting enough?"
"I am sorry, I... I just wanted to bring Jason some breakfast." Ava quickly explained herself before she was cut off again.
Both Beth and Cecile scoffed at the same time when they heard Ava.
Their voices rang almost at the same time as they asked, "What did you just say?"
Ava looked at their expression, swallowed the bitterness at her throat, and explained, "Today is our wedding anniversary and I made Jason breakfast."
Before the mother-daughter pair could say anything, she continued, "Well, it seems like I came at the wrong time. I should take my leave now and let you guys continue to do whatever you were doing."
When Ava said that, she turned around ready to leave. But before she stepped her foot outside the door, the woman who was in Jason's arms, opened her mouth and questioned Jason in an aggrieved tone.
"How come I did not know that you were married? Have you been lying to me all this while?"
The question took the three members of the Grayson family by surprise. Ava's stiffened but she did not turn around.
Just as she was about to disappear outside the door, Jason's cold voice came through the office, "And where do you think you are going?"
He turned to the woman in his arms and explained in a gentle voice, "I am so sorry darling for dragging out this matter. I should have ended it a long time ago, but don't worry. I am going to be a free man now."
With that, he turned to look at the two men who were busy working on something on their laptops and commanded in an authoritative voice, "Lawyer Kai, Lawyer Marc, are you not yet done drafting the divorce papers?"
"We are on the last clause, boss. Ten minutes and we will be done."
"Hurry up. The more I stay married to that fool, the more I feel dirty. I cannot wait another second."
Ava, who had their back on them had a stunned expression on her face. Did she hear right? Was Jason actually planning on divorcing her? And she had even made his work easier by sending herself to the lion's den?
Beth could already imagine Ava's expression at the moment. Her lips curled into a taunting smile as she said, "Did you hear that? My brother's long-time lover finally returned to the country and he is finally going to be free."
"Only God knows how long we have been waiting for this moment. You should have learned your lesson a long time ago and left while you still could. Look at you now, poor thing."
Ava's mind had completely turned blank. The only thing that she could hear in her head was Jason's words calling her a fool and dirty.
To him, she was just a dispensable piece of trash. As she watched all the efforts, she had put all these years to make sure that their marriage worked, a tear rolled down Ava's cheek.
The two men who had been working on the extra desk stood up with the already printed papers and handed them to Jason. They spoke in an almost flattering tone, "Mr. Grayson, we are done. Now, we only need you and your wife to sign the papers and we will take care of the rest."
When Jason heard that, his lips turned into a charming smile. He was finally going to get rid of this annoying wife and he could not be happier.
"Good."
He looked at Ava's back with a dangerous smile before he commanded, "You, come and sign these papers. I can't believe that I have been married to someone like you for three years."
Ava remained standing stiff as if she had not heard anything. The little hope she had in her heart before she left the house was gone, and the only thing she could feel was coldness and endless humiliation.
Seeing that Ava was not reacting, Beth held her and yanked her, forcing her to face them. Her face was stained with tears and her eyes were filled with a never seen before fear.
Her family had discarded her and if she signed those papers, she would become homeless.
Beth looked at her and said, "Did you not hear what my brother said? Get over here and sign the divorce papers. Honestly, I don't know how we have been able to stand the stench coming from you for the past years. You should consider yourself lucky for having even carried the Grayson family name."
...
Ava did not know how she left the Grayson Group of companies. When she returned to her senses, she was standing outside the gates of one place she swore to never come back.
She looked at the familiar and not-so-familiar gates before taking a deep sigh.
Ever since her mother died, the only memories she had of this place were endless suffering and torture from her stepmother and sister. She was too weak to fight back and that allowed them to take everything from her.
Ava took a deep breath before she raised her hand to knock on the gates. A sharp pain shot from her hand, making her to suck in a cold breath.
It was only then did she remembered that Jason's girlfriend had accidentally spilled hot soup on her.
While she was signing the divorce papers, the woman had said that she was curious to see the kind of breakfast she had prepared for Jason.
Ava's mind had been all over the place that she had not sensed any ill intentions. She only came back to her senses from the searing pain, but at that moment she did not have time to care much.
Now, looking at her swelling hand that was filled with blisters, Ava felt fresh tears gather in her eyes.
She knocked on the West family gates and when the security guard saw her, he was so shocked that his mouth remained wide open.
"M... miss... is that you?"
Ava forced a smile on her face when she saw the security guard's shocked expression. But at least, he still remembered her.
Ava entered the house that she had not set foot in for three years, and she did not know where to begin. She was about to heave a sigh of relief that someone was not home when she heard voices coming from the dining room.
They were the voices of her stepmother and step-sister, probably having breakfast.
Ava immediately stopped in her tracks when she heard her name being mentioned.
June, her step-sister, was explaining something to her mother, "I have just gotten off the phone with Beth and Ava has already signed the divorce papers. She is now a homeless divorcee with nowhere to go."
"Oh, what a tragedy to befall such a poor soul!" June's mother said in a heartbroken voice. But her tone changed into a cold and mocking one, "But she deserves it. Who told her to have such a stupid mother who could not even protect her?"
"Now that she is no longer a threat, we can enjoy everything that her mother left for her in peace. With that accident, I don't think that she will ever regain her memories in this lifetime."
"Mom, you don't have to worry about anything. Beth said that Jason's current girlfriend is not someone to be messed with. Who knows, maybe she might not even be able to sleep on the streets tonight. 'Accidents' easily happen in such kind of places."
Ava was shocked when she heard them. What did they mean that she will never regain her memories in this lifetime? Had she ever had an accident that made her lose her memories?
And from their tone, it did not seem like it was an accident! What does that mean?
She knew that the mother and daughter pair were not fond of her. They have done a lot of bad things to her behind closed doors, but in front of people, especially her father, they had always been polite to her.
Although her father did not like her, and he was even cold towards her, she once heard him telling the pair to never mistreat her.
But deliberately causing an accident that she did not remember and taking away her memories, that was new.
Ava put a hand on her mouth to prevent herself from crying out loud. She made a mistake coming to this place and all she wanted to do now was leave.
She turned around hastily but before she could make it to the door, a maid's surprised voice echoed through the house.
"You, who are you and what are you doing here? Who let you in? Are you a thief?"
The maid had probably joined the family after Ava was married since she did not seem to know who she was.
Ava was walking hurriedly towards the door. But after being questioned by the maid if she was a thief, her back stiffened and her body trembled slightly.
This was her house, the place she could call home. But now that she had been reduced to a mere thief, she could not take the shock.
In her moment of hesitation, June and her mother Martha had caught up with her.
At that moment, Ava wished for the world to open up and swallow her but it was only wishful thinking. And if she had the power to reverse time, she never would have set foot in this house!
When June and Martha saw who it was, they were momentarily shocked. But after a moment, their gazes were replaced with hints of mockery and disdain. Their eyes were as if they were looking at a corpse.
June approached Ava and a heavy slap landed on her cheek, making her body sway as if it was about to fall down.
"You, what are you doing here? Didn't you say that you would never set foot in this place the moment you got married? Why are you back?"
Ava's mind was disoriented from the sudden slap but she still heard the question loud and clear.
She looked at June in shock. If she had not heard with her ears the woman talking about the news of her divorce, she would have believed that she really did not know what was going on.
But since she knew, she was only saying it so that she could rub salt on her fresh wounds.
Although June wanted to taunt Ava, Martha had other concerns. Just now, they have been conversing freely because they knew that they were the only ones in the house, but this bimbo suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Did that mean that she heard everything they had been talking about?
Martha went to Ava and yanked her hair hard. Ava felt as if her scalp was on fire and she let out a painful cry.
Martha did not care about the pain she was causing and forced Ava to look at her. Looking into Martha's eyes, Ava felt as if she was being haunted by the devil.
"Did you hear anything just now?"
Ava shook her head. She felt that if she nodded, her neck might be snapped right there and then.
"How long have you been standing here and listening?"
Ava rapidly shook her head, "I..."
June came back to her senses when she heard her mother's questioning.
"Mom, what are you talking about? What could she have possibly heard?"
"Anything. What if she uses it against us and tries to find justice for herself? It has not been easy for us to reach this point, especially when we are about to get everything."
"Mom, I think you are worrying too much. She is now a homeless and worthless being. She does not have a single penny, what could she possibly do? It is not like she has anyone who could ever stand up for her?"
"You are right... but?"
"Like I told you, she might not even wake up to see the sunrise tomorrow."
With that, Ava was thrown out of her house, labeled as a thief who had broken in and they almost called the police on her.
Ava walked on the streets with a blank mind. Just yesterday, she had been the young mistress of the Grayson family. And even if her husband did not love her, no one would have dared to bully her. In fact, the two people that had just thrown her out of the West family, had to show her respect every time they met at an official event.
But now, not only was she a divorcee, but she was homeless, with no friends and nowhere to go.
Worst of all, she had just learned that a part of her memory was missing, and now she felt like she had been living a fake life all these years.
Ava walked from dawn to dusk. She did not feel hungry or tired. She just wanted to keep walking until the world would consume her.
What was there to leave for if no one in the world wanted her? Maybe she would have followed her mom to wherever place she went after she died.
In her dazed moment, and not feeling the impending danger, a bright-red sports car came from behind at lightning speed. It rammed into Ava, making her body fly in the air before leaving without caring whether she would survive or die.
Ava, who was numb to everything, did not even realize that she had been hit by a car. She only felt her body floating in the air before it landed in a pair of strong arms, holding her tightly.
Then a voice sounded in her head. Someone was calling out for her in a worried tone, "Miss, are you alright? Miss, open your eyes!"
The voice was deep and husky, probably the most beautiful voice she had heard in her entire life.
Although she was hearing it for the first time, Ava was already fond of it.
She struggled to open her heavy eyes and what she came in contact with was a breathtakingly handsome face, so handsome that it made her widen her eyes.
With her consciousness drifting away, Ava did not know for how long she would keep her eyes open. She looked at the man as if she wanted to imprint every inch of his face in her mind. At the same time, something seemed to be breaking free in her mind, making her convulse in pain.
The man looked at her with a worried expression, "Ma'am, I will take you to the hospital, just hang in there a little. You will be fine, I promise."
Ava did not know whether she was dreaming or not. But she was happy that someone had actually cared about her and shown her concern in her most vulnerable moment.
At that moment, she felt that the world was not such an ugly place anymore. At least, there was someone who could care about her.
With the little strength left in her, she lifted her bloodied hand and touched the man's handsome face. And with the last bit of breath left in her, she asked while gasping for air, "M...i...s...t...e...r... hand...some... wa... what... is... your... name?"
The man, who had never been one to answer to just anybody, opened his mouth and said in a gentle tone, "Leo Wyatt. My name is Leo Wyatt."
"L...e...o, thank... you!" after Ava said, a beautiful smile appeared on her face. A smile that made Leo's heart skip a beat and it was imprinted in his eyes and his heart for generations to come.
After Ava was taken away by the ambulance, Leo turned to his stunned assistant.
He commanded in an almost freezing tone, "Find out everything about her, and why someone just tried to kill her. I want to see everything about her on my desk in an hour."
"Yes, boss."
...
'Leo Wyatt.'
That was the name that kept playing in Ava's subconsciousness. She did not remember where she had heard it but she knew that it was important, and she had to find whoever that person was.
Slowly opening her eyes, she realized that she was lying on a huge bed, and looking around, the room seemed familiar!
Wasn't this the same room she had spent three years, drowning in loneliness hoping that, that man could one day walk through that door, and embrace her?
Ava was confused. She looked at the calendar and realized that it was one week to their wedding anniversary. But hadn't the anniversary already passed?
What in the fu*king world was not happening?
Ava hastily lifted the blankets and hurried to the mirror. When she saw the familiar face in the mirror, she was even more confused.
She touched her face, trying to see if anything strange had happened to it, but she found that her face was intact.
The only thing that had changed was probably the light in her eyes. Although she could not put her finger on it, she felt that just with a single gaze from her, she could see through everything.
What was more shocking to her was that she felt as if she had already lived this day!
Ava looked around the room, trying to find clues to whatever was happening to her, but she realized that everything was exactly the same. There was nothing out of the ordinary in the room!
But why did everything feel so different?
